Although the slate is a bit shallow tonight, there are still a couple of headliners to look into. On tonight’s slate are two Power-4 matchups that I’ve got best bets for.
That includes the Pittsburgh-West Virginia matchup and the California-Kansas State game.
Let’s get right to our college basketball picks today.
Betting On Power-4 Games Today’s Picks
Last night’s slate lacked many Power-4 games. But tonight we’ve got those games back on the slate.
All four teams talked about in tonight’s two games are undefeated. Some haven’t been tested very much, but that will certainly change tonight.
Ultimately, Pittsburgh and West Virginia are both 3-0 and played solid mid-major level opponents. This will be each team’s first test against better competition.
On the other hand, California and Kansas State haven’t really played much competition leading into this game. It’ll be interesting to see how both teams respond tonight.
Here are my expert college basketball picks for both games.
Pittsburgh Panthers vs. West Virginia Mountaineers (-5.5 -105)
The Pittsburgh Panthers have won three consecutive games heading into tonight’s matchup. Pittsburgh earned wins over Youngstown State, Longwood, and Eastern Michigan. All three wins were at home, but now they’ll be on the road against West Virginia tonight.
On the flip side, West Virginia won three straight games at home over Mount St. Mary’s, Campbell, and Lehigh. Now they’ll stay home for this game against Pittsburgh.
West Virginia has not been aggressive on the offensive glass this season. The team has also shot just 49.5% from inside the arc this season. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh should limit second chances and has played solid defense up to this point in the season.
West Virginia has also played great defense, but the Mountaineers are fouling at a very high rate. Pittsburgh should be able to take advantage at the foul line. However, this team has made only 68.2% of its foul shots this season.
At the end of the day, Pittsburgh has shot the ball better and has added more offensive rebounds. I’ll take the Panthers at +5.5.
Expert Pick: Pittsburgh +5.5 (-115) at Caesars
California Golden Bears vs. Kansas State Wildcats (-6.5 -105)
California and Kansas State haven’t been tested heading into this game. It’s apparent that Kansas State currently ranks No. 2 in effective field goal percentage and has knocked down 56% of its threes in its first two games this season.
Obviously, you can’t expect Kansas State to be that great from downtown moving forward. In addition, the Wildcats have turned the ball over 22.5% of the time. They’ll be way less efficient with more misses mixed in.
Conversely, California has been more balanced all around. The Golden Bears have shot just 28.4% from three, but aren’t really shooting the three-point shot that consistently anyway. They’re 81.4% from the foul line and hitting 57.4% from inside the arc through the first three games.
California should get to the foul line more. As long as the Golden Bears play solid defense and keep Kansas State in check from three, I like the Golden Bears to at least cover the 6.5-point spread.
Expert Pick: California +6.5 (-115) at Caesars

The non-conference slate is always very appealing. Many times, it’s a good practice to take the home team. However, so far this season, the analytics like the road teams in tonight’s two Power-4 matchups.
