The Cubs optioned Palencia to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Following the return of Marcus Stroman (ribs) from the injured list Friday, Palencia will be pushed off the active roster. The 23-year-old righty struggled heavily in the minors to start the year but was able to record a respectable 4.09 ERA and 1.23 WHIP through 22 innings in the majors.

Palencia (4-0) worked around two walks to pitch a scoreless inning of relief and earn the win in Thursday's 10-inning win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Palencia got into some trouble in the ninth inning but managed to keep his record spotless. The rookie earned a win in his MLB debut back on July 4 and he's now compiled a 4.30 ERA across 14.2 innings. Despite grabbing a few wins in relief, Palencia doesn't have a ton of fantasy appeal in his role in the middle of Chicago's bullpen.

Palencia (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Brewers. He allowed one hit and had no walks or strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
After Adbert Alzolay blew a save in the ninth inning, the Cubs tuned to Palencia for the 10th and 11th frames. The 23-year-old was making his MLB debut but he managed to navigate the high-stress assignment on only 12 pitches and earn his first win in the process. Palencia had a 6.83 ERA across 29 innings this season between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, though he's got a big fastball and could stick with the Cubs if he continues to pitch well out of the bullpen.

The Cubs selected Palencia's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Acquired from the Athletics two years ago in the Andrew Chafin trade, Palencia has posted a 6.83 ERA and 36:16 K:BB over 29 innings this season between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. The 23-year-old has a big arm and had been unscored upon in five of his last six appearances with Iowa, boasting an 11:2 K:BB in 5.2 innings over that stretch.
