Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that he is not concerned about Freeman (hamstring) being ready for Opening Day, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Freeman tweaked his right hamstring during Canada's win over Colombia on Tuesday in the World Baseball Classic and he returned to Dodgers camp Wednesday for an evaluation by the team's medical staff. The injury is mild, per Roberts, and there are no further tests planned. The expectation is that the star first baseman will be able to get back into Cactus League play relatively soon.

The first baseman should have every opportunity to improve upon his counting stats going forward as he joins an already potent Dodgers lineup.

While he's not quite meeting the high standard he established during his 2020 National League MVP season, Freeman has more or less paid off for fantasy managers that nabbed him in the first or second round of drafts. He's supplemented his 30 home runs with 107 runs, 77 RBI, eight stolen bases and a .296 average.

With seven stolen bases on the season, Freeman ranks tied for second among all first basemen, trailing only St. Louis' Paul Goldschmidt (eight).

Freeman is back in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Reds after missing Sunday's contest due to illness.

Freeman exited Saturday's matchup against Washington with an upper respiratory infection. He remained out of the starting nine for the series finale, though he did make a pinch-hit appearance later in the game. The slugger appears to be feeling much better as he's set to bat third and man first base Tuesday.

According to Bowman, Freeman admitted he felt sick heading into Saturday's game and experienced spells of dizziness before leaving early, so Atlanta is likely erring on the side of caution by holding him out of the series finale. Freeman will effectively get two days off thanks to Atlanta having an open date in the schedule Monday, but the team is hopeful he'll be ready to go for Tuesday's series opener versus Cincinnati.

There's been no indication that Freeman has tested positive for COVID-19, an illness he battled prior to his MVP campaign last year. Health and safety protocols remain tight due to the pandemic, however, so Atlanta will have to treat Freeman's illness with caution. Ehire Adrianza entered the game in his place, playing third base and pushing Austin Riley over to first, which could be the team's default alignment if Freeman is forced to miss time.

The minor change shouldn't have too much of an effect on Freeman, who has posted a monstrous 1.207 OPS over his last 20 games.

After a very slow start to the year, Freeman has upped his slash line to .281/.387/.503 with 20 homers, 52 RBI, 60 runs scored and a 55:72 BB:K over 393 plate appearances.

Prior to Wednesday's four hit night, he's been hitless in four straight games, marking his second-longest stretch without a hit this season.

The first baseman isn't known for his speed, but he's up to four stolen bases in five attempts this year. He's added a .247/.357/.467 slash line, 16 home runs, 40 RBI and 46 runs scored through 68 games.

Projected to hit third in an Atlanta lineup teeming with talent, Freeman looks to be a fairly safe foundational pick in the first two rounds of fantasy drafts.

Freeman's arrival at camp was delayed due to the birth of his child, but he joined Atlanta late last month and is ready to see his first action of the year. Freeman -- the 2020 NL MVP -- said Tuesday that he is planning to hit third in 2021, and he will do just that Friday.

Freeman said Tuesday that he's tentatively planning on opening the 2021 season as the Braves' No. 3 hitter, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Freeman started out last season in the three hole, but he ultimately moved into the No. 2 spot for his final 17 starts of the abbreviated campaign. The first baseman posted a monstrous 1.202 OPS as the No. 2 hitter compared to a .982 OPS batting third, but that difference can probably be chalked up to a small sample of plate appearances more than anything.
