College Football Futures Odds

Who’s going to win the college football National Championship? What about the SEC? You’ll find both these futures bets and more on the NCAA Football odds board.

Betting on American football has never been more popular than it is today. But did you know that some of the biggest college football bets don’t even take place during college football season? They belong to a special category called “futures” bets, which you’ll find on the NCAA college football odds board at your local sportsbook.

Futures, as the name implies, are a betting type that you have to wait until a later date to see who won. Instead of betting on a team to win a single game, you can bet on team performance across an entire season – including the college playoffs (Champ Week, CFP) as well as the remaining bowl games.

These NCAAF futures bets are very popular during the off-season; people love betting on which team will win the National Championship or who the conference winners will be for any of the conferences. Depending on the betting book you’re using, you might even find divisional odds for the Southeastern Conference Championship (SEC) and the Big Ten.

You can also place these futures bets in the middle of the season. The odds get updated throughout the year as teams rise and fall, and the ones who are eliminated from the competition get taken off the board. So how do you bet on college futures? It’s easy once you know the ropes.

How To Read College Football Futures Odds

Once you’ve opened up the college futures page at your chosen sportsbook, you’ll see all the different bets that are available, usually with the NCAA Championship at the center of the betting action. Each wager will present you with a list of the teams who still have a competitive chance of winning.

For example, here were the four teams still in the hunt for the ACC Championship, as they appeared on the futures betting market heading into Week 11 of the 2022-23 campaign:

• Clemson: -380
• North Carolina: +265
• Duke: +50000
• Georgia Tech : +50000

Like most bets for college football in the United States, these betting odds are expressed using the “American” format; you can toggle over to decimal odds or fractional odds if you prefer, assuming your chosen book has that technology built in – most of the good ones do.

The easiest way to read American odds is to pretend you’re betting $100. When a team has a positive sign next to their odds, you’ll win that amount for every $100 wagered; that would be $265 in profit for North Carolina, and a big $50,000 for the two long shots still in the field.

When a team has a negative sign next to their American odds, it means you’ll win $100 if you wager the given amount – which would be $380 in the case of Clemson. Anytime you’re dealing with futures, there’s usually only one team with that negative sign attached, and they’re the favorites to win, usually due to the success rate of winning past games.

Smaller and larger bets than $100 are allowed, of course, but this shortcut will help you wrap your head around the risk-reward ratio for the bets you want to make when you’re doing your betting analysis.

NCAAF Playoff Futures Odds

When we talk about “playoffs” in college football, we mean the College Football Playoff that determines the national champions; we also include the conference title game schedule during Champ Week. Bowl game odds outside the CFP can also get thrown into the postseason mix.

You can even bet simply on which teams will make the CFP. The defending champions from Georgia (9-0) are -900 with three games left before Champ Week; 9-0 Ohio State (-700) and 8-1 Tennessee (-200) are also expected to make the Final Four.

The College Football Championship Odds

This is the big one: Who will win the Championship game? College National Championship odds are the heart and soul of the NCAAF futures market. They are the most common college football futures by a wide margin – sometimes the only ones on the board during the off-season.

At press time, Georgia (-110) are favored over the field to defend their title, ahead of Ohio State (+200) and Michigan (+800). If the Bulldogs can pull it off, they’ll remain at the top of the following list of recent champions.
