Johnson will be the starting quarterback for Kansas State's bowl game, Kellis Robinett of The Wichita Eagle reports.

It was announced Monday that Will Howard entered the transfer portal, thus leaving up an open spot at Kansas State's starting quarterback position. Johnson will take the role for whenever KSU's bowl game will be. He has 518 all-purpose yards (301 passing and 217 rushing) and nine touchdowns (three passing and six rushing) across 2023.

Johnson was 2-for-5 passing for 33 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 59-25 win against Baylor.

Johnson recorded his third touchdown pass of the season as Kansas State blew out the Bears at home. Starting QB Will Howard was spectacular on his way to becoming the school's all-time leader in passing touchdowns. While Johnson may see some snaps each week, this is Howard's team moving forward. Kansas State will play at Kansas next week.

Johnson was 0-for-1 passing for zero yards during Saturday's 33-30 overtime loss against Texas.

Johnson also had just one rushing attempt for a negative yard. For the first time in four weeks, Will Howard played the majority of the game for the Wildcats. Howard attempted a season-high 42 passes and threw four touchdown passes. It appears that Howard is back to a full-time role for the Wildcats. Kansas State will play Baylor next week.

Expect Johnson to continue to receive snaps, however, it's not likely he receives the bulk of them. Kansas State will play at Texas next week.

It appears that Kansas State is comfortable rolling with two quarterbacks moving forward. They'll go up against Houston next week.
