Chuba Hubbard Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Rams vs Panthers game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 24, 2025
Logs seven total touches Monday
Hubbard rushed three times for 16 yards and secured all four targets for 27 yards in the Panthers' 20-9 loss to the 49ers on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard saw half the amount of carries of backfield mate Rico Dowdle, remaining in a clear No. 2 role behind the latter. Hubbard did draw even with Dowdle in receptions and targets due to a game script that saw the Panthers have to rely heavily on the pass as the game went on. Hubbard should handle a similar workload in a Week 13 home matchup against the Rams on Sunday.
Nov 16, 2025
Minimal output in reserve role
Hubbard rushed four times for 21 yards and caught one of three for seven yards in Sunday's 30-27 overtime win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old has now received just 10 total touches in the Panthers' last two games, solidifying his reserve role behind Rico Dowdle, who tallied 100 total yards on 24 touches in Sunday's win. Since Dowdle took over as Carolina's No. 1 option in the Week 9 win over the Packers, Hubbard has managed just 52 rushing yards on 12 attempts. He's expected to continue operating in a reserve role in the Week 12 matchup against the 49ers.
Nov 9, 2025
Just four touches in Week 10
Hubbard carried the ball three times for 14 yards and caught his only target for one yard in Sunday's 17-7 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
The touch and yardage totals were season lows for Hubbard, as he continues to see a massively reduced role with Rico Dowdle getting a look as the clear top option in the Carolina backfield. Hubbard might need an injury to Dowdle to have real fantasy relevance again, as he's managed only 32 scrimmage yards total over the last two games. Hubbard may not need a lot of touches to make a splash in Week 11 against a Falcons defense that just got torched by Jonathan Taylor for 244 rushing yards and three TDs.
Nov 2, 2025
Five touches as backup
Hubbard carried the ball five times for 17 yards and failed to catch his only target in Sunday's 16-13 win over the Packers.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Rico Dowdle took over as the No. 1 back for Carolina rather than working in a timeshare with Hubbard, and he turned 25 totes into 130 rushing yards and two TDs. It's the first time Hubbard has failed to get double-digit carries in a game when healthy since Week 1 of 2024, but it likely won't be the last as Dowdle continues to build job security in the starting role. Hubbard's best chance of making an impact in Week 10 might be if the Panthers can build a big lead at home against the Saints, offering the potential for some garbage-time touches.

Appears set to lose work to Dowdle
Head coach Dave Canales hinted Monday that Hubbard is likely to cede more carries to Rico Dowdle moving forward rather than splitting the backfield work evenly with Dowdle, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports. "Chuba has meant a lot to this organization and certainly to the identity that we want to build and we wanted to give him the opportunity to go out there and to continue to impact our team in a positive way," Canales said. "But we cannot ignore the fact that Rico has been exceptional. ... We lo
ANALYSIS
Carolina has more of a financial commitment to Hubbard after inking him to a four-year, $33.2 million extension last November, but the stellar results the Panthers have gotten from Dowdle over the past four weeks have made it difficult for Canales to justify moving forward with a two-pronged approach to the backfield. While Hubbard was sidelined Weeks 5 and 6 win a calf injury, Dowdle racked up 473 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in wins over the Dolphins and Cowboys, and Dowdle has continued to thrive while being used in a timeshare with Hubbard over the past two games. Between Weeks 7 and 8, Dowdle has averaged 5.3 yards on his 25 carries, more than doubling up Hubbard's average of 2.5 yards on 26 totes. Hubbard isn't expected to disappear from Carolina's game plans completely and could even continue to make ceremonial starts, but Canales' comments indicate that Dowdle is being viewed as the team's clear top option on the ground heading into Sunday's game in Green Bay.
Oct 26, 2025
Records rush TD in loss
Hubbard rushed 12 times for 34 yards and a touchdown and failed to bring in his only target in the Panthers' 40-9 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard notably out-touched backfield mate Rico Dowdle by a 12-8 margin on the ground, and although the latter was the more efficient of the two by far, Hubbard was the only one of the two to get into the end zone. The fifth-year pro's three-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter marked his first time in the paint this season, and the two backs may continue working in a fairly close timeshare during a Week 9 road matchup against the Packers next Sunday afternoon.
Oct 19, 2025
Even split with Dowdle
Hubbard recorded 14 rushes for 31 yards in Sunday's 13-6 win over the Jets. He added two receptions on three targets for 24 yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard returned from a two-game absence and drew every touch on Carolina's first offensive possession. He went on to alternate drives with Rico Dowdle for the entire game, which naturally led to a nearly exactly even split in touches. Hubbard was far less efficient, as Dowdle out-gained him 96-55. It remains to be seen if that affects Hubbard's usage moving forward, but he managed to maintain a significant role in Carolina's offense despite Dowdle's strong showing during his absence.
Oct 19, 2025
Lines up with starters Sunday
Hubbard took the first warmup reps at running back with the Panthers' starting offense for Sunday's game against the Jets, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, Rico Dowdle lined up second in the order at running back, though it doesn't necessarily mean that Hubbard is in line to serve as Carolina's lead option on the ground in Week 7. While Hubbard was sidelined Weeks 5 and 6 due to a calf injury, Dowdle stepped in admirably and ran roughshod over the Miami and Dallas defenses, accruing 389 yards and a touchdown on 53 carries while adding seven receptions for 84 yards and another score. In light of Dowdle's pair of big performances, head coach Dave Canales was non-committal on a starting running back for the Week 7 contest, making it difficult to deploy either Hubbard or Dowdle with much confidence in terms of their projected workload.
Oct 17, 2025
Cleared for return
Hubbard (calf) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at the Jets, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The remaining question is how the Panthers split work between Hubbard and Rico Dowdle, who ran for 389 yards over the past two games (both wins). Head coach Dave Canales hasn't been helpful, merely saying that Dowdle has earned the right to maintain a role. Dowdle already had a role, of course, getting 7-to-11 touches in Weeks 2-4 when Hubbard was the starter. There's obviously now risk of Dowdle taking on a larger portion of the workload, but the Panthers probably won't provide hints on the specifics before Sunday's game.
Oct 16, 2025
Limited at practice again
Hubbard (calf) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard has now logged back-to-back limited practice sessions, and he said Thursday that he plans to suit up for Sunday's game at the Jets, per David Newton of ESPN.com. Rico Dowdle has been sensational as the Panthers' fill-in starter across the span of Hubbard's two-game absence, however, so it remains to be seen who backfield snaps will be divvied up if both players take the field Week 7. If Hubbard can upgrade to a full practice session Friday, he could avoid an injury designation entirely for Sunday's contest.
Oct 16, 2025
Aiming to play Sunday
Hubbard (calf) said Thursday that he expects to suit up for Sunday's game at the Jets, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Following a two-game absence due to a calf injury, Hubbard got back on the practice field as a limited participant Wednesday and was donning full pads one day later. His activity level Thursday is unknown, but he appears to be trending toward a return to action this weekend. If the preceding comes to pass, the breakdown of RB reps between Hubbard and fill-in starter Rico Dowdle will be of interest considering the latter reeled off 473 yards from scrimmage and two total TDs on 60 touches while the former was sidelined.
Oct 15, 2025
Back in limited capacity
Hubbard (calf) practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
This marks Hubbard's first on-field work since Week 4 prep, as he sat out Weeks 5 and 6 due to a calf injury. Coach Dave Canales told Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer on Wednesday that Hubbard looked "great," but he likely will need to string together multiple practices in a row in order to put himself in a position to play Sunday at the Jets. Assuming Hubbard is back in action this weekend, the Panthers are expected to keep both him and Rico Dowdle, who has sprung for 473 yards from scrimmage and two total TDs on 60 touches the last two games, involved in the offense, though who would have the upper hand between them remains to be seen, per Dan Graziano of ESPN.com.
Oct 15, 2025
Seen at practice Wednesday
Hubbard (calf) was present for the media-access portion of Wednesday's practice, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard initially came down with a calf injury during Week 4 prep but was able to suit up Sunday, Sept. 28 against the Patriots and log a 51 percent snap share en route to 13 touches for 69 yards from scrimmage. He then didn't practice at all the past two weeks due to the same health concern and was inactive Weeks 5 and 6, allowing fellow RB Rico Dowdle to rip off back-to-back monster performances on the ground. Hubbard taking part in drills Wednesday will be a step in the right direction, but it's unclear if he'd take on a larger share of Carolina's backfield reps whenever he's cleared for game action considering how well Dowdle has performed.
Oct 10, 2025
Ruled out for Week 6
Hubbard (calf) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard missed every practice for a second straight week, leaving Rico Dowdle as the leader of Carolina's backfield after his 200-yard rushing performance in last Sunday's win over the Dolphins. Dowdle gets another favorable matchup this coming Sunday, facing his former team in a game that's tied for the second-highest over/under (49.5) of Week 6.
Oct 10, 2025
Not working in individual drills
Hubbard (calf) wasn't taking part in individual drills during the early stages of practice Friday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, and with the running back trending toward another 'DNP' on Friday, David Newton of ESPN.com notes that it doesn't look promising with regard to Hubbard's status for Sunday's game against the Cowboys. If he ends up deemed out for the contest, the stage would be set for Rico Dowdle to work as Carolina's lead back versus his former team.
Oct 9, 2025
Remains idle for practice
Hubbard (calf) didn't practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard has now sat out five consecutive Panthers practices due to the calf issue, and unless he's able to end the trend and take part in Friday's session in some capacity, he looks set to miss a second consecutive game this Sunday against the Cowboys. His potential absence would clear the way for Rico Dowdle to get another turn as Carolina's lead back, after Dowdle amassed a career-high 234 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown on 26 touches in the Panthers' Week 5 win over the Dolphins.
Oct 8, 2025
Still not practicing
Hubbard (calf) didn't practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard hasn't practiced since initially showing up on the Panthers' first Week 5 injury report last Wednesday due to a calf issue. On a positive note, he was seen working on the side this Wednesday, per David Newton of ESPN.com, so his health appears to be improving. In the end, though, Hubbard likely will need to mix into drills Thursday and/or Friday in order to have a chance to play Sunday against the Cowboys. With Hubbard out this past Sunday versus the Dolphins, fellow RB Rico Dowdle reeled off 206 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries to go with three catches (on four targets) for 28 yards.
Oct 8, 2025
Working on side field Wednesday
Hubbard (calf) is present at practice Wednesday and working on the side field, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard didn't practice at all en route to being ruled out Week 5 against the Dolphins and he may be listed as a non-participant again Wednesday, if his reps on the side field aren't enough to qualify as 'limited' activity. With Rico Dowdle having gashed Miami to the tune of 206 rushing yards, of course, Carolina has no reason to rush Hubbard back before he's fully healthy. If Hubbard is forced to sit out again during Sunday's matchup against the Cowboys, Dowdle will get another chance to take advantage of a vulnerable opposing defense.
Oct 3, 2025
Won't play in Week 5
Hubbard (calf) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard played through a calf injury this past Sunday in New England but logged a season-low 51 percent snap share in the process. In the wake of that contest, he didn't practice at all this week, signaling that he was trending toward his first absence of the campaign. Rico Dowdle thus lines up to lead Carolina's backfield this weekend, with Trevor Etienne and DeeJay Dallas also on hand for RB reps. Hubbard's next chance to suit up is Sunday, Oct. 12 versus the Cowboys.
Oct 3, 2025
Not expected to play Sunday
Hubbard (calf) is expected to miss Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing practice both Wednesday and Thursday, Hubbard is trending toward being unavailable this weekend, an outcome that could be confirmed as soon as Friday, when the Panthers post their final Week 5 injury report. If Hubbard is indeed sidelined versus Miami, Rico Dowdle and Trevor Etienne would be in line for added backfield touches, with DeeJay Dallas also on hand.
Oct 1, 2025
No practice Wednesday
Hubbard (calf) didn't practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard capped last week with two limited practices due to a calf injury before being listed as questionable ahead of a Week 4 matchup with the Patriots. He proceeded to be active but earned a season-low 51 percent snap share on his way to 13 touches for 69 yards from scrimmage. Coach Dave Canales told Steve Reed of the Associated Press on Wednesday that Hubbard requires more time this week to recovery from the calf issue and is "day-to-day." As a result, Hubbard's status bears watching as the weekend draws closer to get a sense of his odds to suit up Sunday versus the Dolphins.
Sep 28, 2025
Manages 69 total yards in loss
Hubbard rushed 10 times for 49 yards and brought in all three targets for 20 yards in the Panthers' 42-13 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard's rushing opportunities were unsurprisingly limited in the lopsided loss, but he made good use of them on his way to a team-high yardage total on the ground. The fifth-year pro's carry total tied for his lowest of the season, and he's now posted multiple receptions in all four contests to date in 2025. Hubbard should have a better chance at more rushing volume in a Week 5 home matchup against the Dolphins next Sunday afternoon, a game Miami's suspect defense will play on a short week.
Sep 28, 2025
Ready to go for Week 4
Hubbard (calf) is active for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was a limited participant in the Panthers' final two practices of Week 4 on account of the calf issue, but despite taking a questionable tag into Sunday, he looks like he'll be ready to handle his usual duties as Carolina's lead back. The 26-year-old has handled snap shares north of 60 percent in each of the Panthers' first three contests and has scored two touchdowns while averaging 80.7 yards from scrimmage on 17.6 touches per game.
Sep 27, 2025
On track to play Week 4
Hubbard (calf) is expected to play against New England on Sunday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard popped up on Thursday's injury report due to a calf injury, which limited his participation in the last two practices of the week. Hubbard and rookie first-round wideout Tetairoa McMillan (calf) are both expected to play in Sunday's road contest, though their statuses may not be officially known until the Panthers announce their inactive list approximately 90 minutes before their 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Hubbard has opened the 2025 regular season with 43 carries for 168 yards (3.9 YPC) and 10 catches (on 14 targets) for 74 yards and two touchdowns through three games.
Sep 26, 2025
Listed as questionable
Hubbard (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against New England.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers added Hubbard to their injury report Thursday as a limited participant. He was again limited Friday, suggesting the injury probably isn't serious, although the failure to return to full participation leaves some doubt about his Week 4 status ahead of a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Should Hubbard end up inactive, the Panthers will promote Rico Dowdle to the starting lineup and Trevor Etienne to the No. 2 role.
Sep 25, 2025
Shows up as limited Thursday
Hubbard was limited in practice Thursday due to a calf injury.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard avoided the Panthers' first Week 4 practice report Wednesday, so his addition to it one day later could be cause for concern. Through three games this season, he's accounted for 242 yards from scrimmage and two receiving TDs on 53 touches, while backup RBs Rico Dowdle (23 touches) and Trevor Etienne (two) have combined for less than half of that total. Friday's report will be key for determining if Hubbard will continue to dominate work out of Carolina's backfield.
Sep 21, 2025
Totals 76 yards in blowout win
Hubbard rushed the ball 17 times for 73 yards in Sunday's 30-0 win over the Falcons. He added two receptions on three targets for three yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard continued to see his workload shrink relative to Rico Dowdle, with Hubbard earning 19 touches to Dowdle's 11. That's still plenty of volume to be productive, but the split cost Hubbard a potential touchdown when Dowdle handled an entire drive early in the fourth quarter that concluded with him finding the end zone. The positive news for Hubbard is that he was still efficient with his touches by consistently picking up chunk gains, and he remains entrenched as the lead back in Carolina.
Sep 14, 2025
Secures second receiving TD Sunday
Hubbard rushed 10 times for 38 yards and caught five of six targets for 39 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-22 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard salvaged another pedestrian rushing performance with a late receiving touchdown in the Panthers' second loss of the season. The 26-year-old starter snuck out of the backfield for a five-yard score in the fourth quarter, also scoring the ensuing two-point attempt for good measure. Hubbard continues to dominate the backfield touches in Carolina, making him a starting level fantasy option heading into next Sunday's tilt against Atlanta.
Sep 7, 2025
Nabs late TD in loss
Hubbard carried the ball 16 times for 57 yards and caught three of five targets for 32 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-10 loss to the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old RB scored the Panthers' only TD late in the fourth quarter, catching the ball in the flat and sprinting down the sideline for a 27-yard score. Hubbard is coming off a career-best 2024 campaign in which he amassed 1,366 scrimmage yards and 11 total touchdowns, and the offseason addition of Rico Dowdle to the backfield doesn't appear to have impacted his role or touch volume. Hubbard will look to stay productive on the road in Week 2 against the Cardinals.
Aug 16, 2025
Two touches in Saturday's loss
Hubbard rushed twice for four yards and wasn't targeted in the Panthers' 20-3 preseason loss to the Texans on Saturday afternoon.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers' lead back was out there with his first-unit mates for two series, but Hubbard was sparsely used. That was also the case in the preseason opener against the Browns, as keeping the versatile back healthy for Week 1 is clearly a top priority. Hubbard will share the backfield with Rico Dowdle this coming season, which will likely lead to at least a slight hit to the former's touches, but he should still be in line for a robust role as both runner and receiver.
Aug 8, 2025
Brief cameo in preseason opener
Hubbard gained 10 rushing yards on three carries and failed to catch his only target during Friday's 30-10 preseason loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
The fifth-year running back got the start but handled only a handful of snaps before giving way to Rico Dowdle midway through the first quarter. While the limited usage is a good sign that Hubbard's spot atop the depth chart isn't in any jeopardy, it's still uncertain how coach Dave Canales plans to split the backfield workload this season after the Panthers signed Dowdle in March. Both backs are coming off 1,000-yard campaigns -- Dowdle with Dallas, and Hubbard with Carolina -- but the latter's familiarity with the offense should keep him in the driver's seat for the bigger role come Week 1.
Mar 13, 2025
Gets new backup
The Panthers are signing Rico Dowdle to replace Miles Sanders (free agent) as Hubbard's backup, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard and Dowdle both were lead backs last year, but there doesn't seem to be any doubt about whose show it will be in 2025, considering the former signed a four-year, $33.2 million extension. Dowdle settled for a one-year deal with a reported base value of $3 million, which suggests NFL teams view him as a backup-caliber player even after he ran for 1,079 yards in Dallas last year. Hubbard is the better pure runner, and generally a superior player, but it is possible he cedes more of the backfield work in 2025 (compared to last season) if Carolina's coaches like Dowdle more than they liked Sanders. There's no indication Hubbard's calf and knee injuries from the end of 2024 will be a problem for the upcoming season, whereas 2024 second-round pick Jonathon Brooks figures to miss significant time after tearing his right ACL for the second time in two years.
Dec 30, 2024
Won't need surgery
Hubbard (calf/knee), who is on IR, won't need any surgery in the offseason, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard put together a career-best season for the Panthers, rushing for 1,195 yards and 10 touchdowns on 250 carries while adding 171 yards and one touchdown on 43 receptions. However, the 25-year-old will finish the campaign on IR after suffering a Grade 2 calf strain late in the season. Since Hubbard won't need surgery on either the calf or the knee, he's likely to be ready to play by the start of the 2025 campaign. He's expected to be Carolina's top running back next season after signing a four-year contract extension this November.
Dec 28, 2024
Lands on IR
Hubbard (calf/knee) has been placed on IR by the Panthers, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard, who was limited at practice Friday, was initially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. However, after practice Hubbard noted that he was dealing with some pain, and an MRI Friday night revealed a Grade 2 calf strain. With Hubbard sidelined for Carolina's final two games, Raheem Blackshear, as well as practice squad members Mike Boone and Emani Bailey are next up for the team's backfield work. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Blackshear and Boone (pending his elevation) are likely to share RB duties versus Tampa Bay.
Dec 28, 2024
Expected to land on IR
The Panthers are expected to place Hubbard -- who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers -- on injured reserve due to a calf and knee injury, Adam Schefter of ESPN and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero report.
ANALYSIS
Per Pelissero, the injury that is slated to lead to the anticipated roster move is not considered major, but the 4-11 Panthers, who are not in playoff contention, don't want to make it worse. In Hubbard's looming absence for the team's final two games, Raheem Blackshear is on track to see an expanded role, with Mike Boone and Emani Bailey candidates to be elevated from Carolina's practice squad.
Dec 27, 2024
Status in question for Sunday
Hubbard (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard's listed DNP on Wednesday was attributed to rest, but he's since managed a pair of limited sessions due to a knee injury, leaving his status up in the air for Week 17. The Panthers will confirm his availability, or lack thereof, about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. If he's able to suit up, Hubbard will be taking on a Buccaneers defense that contained him to 43 yards on 12 carries back in Week 13.
Dec 26, 2024
Limited by knee injury
Hubbard practiced in a limited capacity Thursday due to a knee injury.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was listed as a non-participant on the Panthers' first Week 17 injury report Wednesday with rest, so it's unclear if his practice restrictions a day later are related to maintenance or indicative of a potential health concern suffered during Thursday's session. Friday's practice report could provide clarity on that front for a running back that's coming off his fourth 100-yard rushing performance of the campaign this past Sunday against the Cardinals.
Dec 22, 2024
Explodes for 165 yards and two TDs
Hubbard took 25 carries for 152 yards and two touchdowns while chipping in four receptions for 13 yards in Sunday's 36-30 overtime win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was the hero for Carolina in Sunday's unlikely victory when he ripped off a pair of huge runs on consecutive plays in overtime that culminated in the game-winning score. The breakout fantasy star was coming off of his worst performance since Week 1 (10-32-0 in Week 15), so Sunday's outburst was reassuring for fantasy managers still vying for a championship this season. Hubbard and the Panthers can continue playing the role of spoiler against the Buccaneers next Sunday after successfully knocking the Cardinals out of playoff contention.
Dec 15, 2024
Can't get going in Week 15
Hubbard rushed the ball 10 times for 32 yards in Sunday's 30-14 loss to the Cowboys. He added four receptions on four targets for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard led the backfield as expected with Jonathon Brooks (knee) sidelined. However, he couldn't get things going, in large part because Carolina ran only 50 offensive plays. That led to his lowest yardage output on the ground since Week 1. Positively, Hubbard did remain involved as a pass catcher, as this marked his third game with at least four catches in his last five matchups.
Dec 9, 2024
Alone atop Panthers' backfield
Hubbard has an unimpeded path to close out the 2024 campaign in a workhorse role out of the backfield for Carolina, with Jonathan Brooks (knee) having suffered a season-ending ACL tear during Sunday's 22-16 loss to the Eagles, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard has established himself as the clear No. 1 option leading the Panthers' rushing attack this season, and he rushed 26 times for 92 yards and one touchdown versus Philadelphia, but there had been an assumption that Brooks' involvement would ramp up down the stretch. With the rookie second-round pick having re-torn his right ACL, though, Carolina's roster no longer features anyone even resembling a threat to Hubbard's dominant share of reps. Raheem Blackshear (chest) is considered day-to-day, while veteran Miles Sanders (ankle) won't be eligible to come off IR until Week 16 against Arizona, at the earliest. Head coach Dave Canales said practice-squad player Mike Boone is currently in line to handle the No. 2 role behind Hubbard at practice, and potentially Week 15 versus Dallas, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
Dec 8, 2024
Huge workload in Philly
Hubbard carried the ball 26 times for 92 yards and a touchdown and caught four of five targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 22-16 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Rookie Jonathon Brooks left the game in the first quarter with an injury to his right knee, the same one he had ACL surgery on about a year ago, while depth RB Raheem Blackshear was also knocked out of the game early with a chest injury. That left Hubbard as Carolina's only option in the backfield, and he turned the extra volume into his best performance since Week 10. The fourth-year back also crossed 1,000 rushing yards on the season, the first time in his career he's reached that plateau. If Brooks' injury proves to be serious, Hubbard is likely headed for a heavy workload again in Week 15 against the Cowboys.
Dec 1, 2024
Role begins to shrink
Hubbard rushed the ball 12 times for 43 yards in Sunday's 26-23 overtime loss to the Buccaneers. He was not targeted.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard continued to lead the Carolina backfield, though he only out-touched Jonathon Brooks by a margin of 12-9. He was also held in check for most of the game, as his longest gain went for only nine yards and he had a fumble in overtime that cost the Panthers a chance at victory. Perhaps most concerning in regards to role was Hubbard's lack of involvement as a receiver, as this marked only the third time this season that he wasn't targeted. He also has at least four receptions in six contests for the campaign, which served as a significant portion of his fantasy value.
Nov 24, 2024
Still lead back
Hubbard rushed the ball 16 times for 58 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Chiefs. He recorded one reception on five targets for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was joined by Jonathon Brooks in the Carolina backfield for the first time this season, though it was hardly noticeable in the box score as he out-touched Brooks 17-2. The Chiefs' run defense has been among the best in the league throughout the campaign, so it's not particularly surprising that Hubbard struggled with his efficiency. However, he still managed a productive fantasy performance thanks to a one-yard plunge into the end zone and a subsequent two-point conversion with under two minutes remaining in the game. Brooks will likely become a bigger factor at some point late in the season, but Hubbard looks to have safe volume for the time being.
Nov 10, 2024
Massive workload in OT win
Hubbard rushed 28 times for 153 yards and a touchdown and brought in four of six targets for 16 yards in the Panthers' 20-17 overtime win over the Giants in Munich on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off inking a four-year extension Thursday, Hubbard wasted no time earning his keep with career highs in rush attempts and rushing yards. Hubbard also recorded his sixth rushing touchdown of the season on a one-yard run late in the third quarter, and he was able to work through an injury scare with missing any time after limping off the field following a lost fumble in Carolina territory just before the midway point of the fourth quarter. Hubbard now has three 100-yard games on the season and will have a Week 11 bye to rest up before a Week 12 home showdown with the Chiefs on Sunday, Nov. 24.
Nov 7, 2024
Reaches four-year extension
Hubbard agreed to a four-year, $33.2 million contract extension with the Panthers on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard is able to earn an additional $4 million in incentives, and he'll receive $15 million fully guaranteed as part of the new deal, which keeps him in the fold through the 2028 season. A 2021 fourth-round pick, Hubbard produced 1,135 yards from scrimmage over 17 games, emerging as Carolina's top back after free-agent signee Miles Sanders struggled and eventually lost the starting gig. Carolina then invested a second-round pick into Jonathon Brooks (knee) in the 2024 NFL Draft, but with Brooks having not yet made his debut, Hubbard has maintained his spot atop the depth chart and has continued to thrive in his fourth season, averaging 5.0 yards per carry and recording 26 receptions through Carolina's first nine contests. Brooks could be available this Sunday against the Giants, and while the Panthers are still high on the rookie's long-term outlook, Hubbard's extension likely ensures that the veteran have a prominent role in the backfield for the foreseeable future.
Nov 3, 2024
Two touchdowns in narrow win
Hubbard rushed 15 times for 72 yards and two touchdowns and brought in two of three targets for no gain in the Panthers' 23-22 win over the Saints on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard saw his second straight 15-carry tally and recorded his first multi-touchdown effort of the season via one- and 16-yard runs in the second half. The second score provided the game-tying points and saw Hubbard break multiple tackles on the way to the end zone, underscoring what he's brought to the table amid the Panthers' struggles. Hubbard is expected to face a challenge to his workload from Jonathon Brooks (knee) when the latter potentially makes a Week 10 debut , but Hubbard should remain atop Carolina's ground attack against the Giants in Germany.
Oct 28, 2024
Held in check by Denver
Hubbard carried the ball 15 times for 56 yards and caught both his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
The fourth-year back couldn't get much going, with his longest gain going for only 15 yards. Hubbard has still put together a very impressive first half of the season given the circumstances around him in Carolina, amassing 701 scrimmage yards in eight games with four total touchdowns and 5.0 yards per carry. With rookie Jonathon Brooks (knee) likely to make his NFL debut in Week 9 against the Saints however, Hubbard's days as the clear starter in the Panthers' backfield may be coming to an end.
Oct 20, 2024
Scores fourth touchdown
Hubbard rushed the ball 17 times for 52 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 40-7 loss to the Commanders. He was not targeted.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers' offense had a miserable day, as they possessed the ball for only 24:55 and totaled only 180 net yards. Given that context, Hubbard did what he could with his rushing attempts, highlighted by a long gain of nine yards and a four-yard touchdown run late in the blowout loss. Despite his success this season, Hubbard's outlook is murky moving forward given the state of the Panthers' offense and the impending return of Jonathon Brooks (knee).
Oct 13, 2024
Gains 103 yards from scrimmage
Hubbard rushed 18 times for 92 yards and caught five of six targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 38-20 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard continued his fantasy ascension in 2024 with another strong performance while handling 18 of Carolina's 21 rushing attempts from RBs. While the fourth-year back failed to extend his scoring streak to three games, he managed to produce his third game of 100-plus combined yards from scrimmage over the Panthers' last four contests. Hubbard remains unchallenged as Carolina's lead back, making him a must-start asset heading into next Sunday's tilt against Washington.
Oct 6, 2024
Stands out in lopsided loss
Hubbard rushed 13 times for 97 yards and a touchdown and brought in all four targets for minus-2 yards in the Panthers' 36-10 loss to the Bears on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers had their first truly pedestrian performance with Andy Dalton under center, but Hubbard continued to prove himself the most consistent member of the team's offense with another highly efficient rushing performance. Hubbard fell just short of his third straight 100-yard performance, but he recorded a rushing TD for the second consecutive game on an exciting 38-yard run in the first quarter to open the scoring on the afternoon. Hubbard didn't have a productive day as a receiver from a yardage standpoint, but he now has at least four receptions in four consecutive games heading into a Week 6 home divisional battle versus the Falcons.
Sep 29, 2024
Another 100-yard performance Sunday
Hubbard rushed 18 times for 104 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 34-24 loss to the Bengals. He added four receptions on four targets for 17 yards and no touchdowns.
ANALYSIS
The fourth-year running back's fantasy relevance has skyrocketed since Andy Dalton took over for Bryce Young in Week 3. Hubbard has now accumulated 290 yards from scrimmage, including back-to-back 100-plus yard rushing performances, and scored two touchdowns over Carolina's last two contests. He managed to dominate Sunday despite the game script favoring the air attack, with the Panthers trailing by as many as 17 points in the second half. Hubbard is expected to continue producing with Dalton at the helm, but he could see some workload reduced when Jonathon Brooks (knee) returns from injury in the next couple weeks.
Sep 22, 2024
Racks up 169 total yards
Hubbard rushed the ball 21 times for 114 yards in Sunday's 36-22 win over the Raiders. He added five receptions on five targets for 55 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Like most of the Carolina skill-position players, Hubbard benefited significantly from Andy Dalton taking over as the starting quarterback. He dominated touches during competitive portions of the game -- Miles Sanders found the end zone in garbage time -- and tallied Carolina's first touchdown of the day on a five-yard catch. In addition to opportunity, Hubbard was also efficient. Only six of his 21 carries went for fewer than four yards, and he also had a long reception of 20 yards. With Jonathan Brooks (knee) out at least one more game, Hubbard should see plenty of volume once again in Week 4 against Cincinnati.
Sep 15, 2024
Lone bright spot in loss
Hubbard rushed 10 times for 64 yards and brought in four of five targets for 12 yards in the Panthers' 26-3 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard's team-leading rushing yardage total was the only statistical performance of note for the hapless Panthers. The fourth-year back had been held to 14 yards on six carries in Week 1, so Sunday's numbers represented a breakout performance of sorts. Hubbard figures to continue finding rushing yards hard to come by on most weeks if Bryce Young continues to struggle, but he'll try to carry over the momentum of Sunday's impressive showing into a Week 3 road matchup against the Raiders.
Sep 9, 2024
Inefficient Sunday
Hubbard rushed six times for 14 yards during Sunday's 47-10 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Despite finishing second on the Panthers in rushing yards Sunday, Hubbard out-carried (six to five) and out-snapped (32 to 22) Miles Sanders, who logged 22 rushing yards. Hubbard appears to be the lead back in Carolina, but he could still struggle to see touches if the Panthers are forced to play from behind, as they were Sunday. He'll look to improve on a poor 2024 debut in Week 2 as the Panthers host the Chargers, who allowed just 71 total rushing yards in Week 1.
Aug 27, 2024
Locked in as September starter
Hubbard's backfield mate Jonathon Brooks (knee) will miss at least the first four games of the regular season, ESPN.com's David Newton reports.
ANALYSIS
Brooks remains on the PUP list for the start of the season, having yet to practice with the Panthers since they took him 46th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. That leaves Hubbard as an incumbent starter with weak competition for backfield touches, albeit under a new coaching staff led by former Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales. The new coaches seemingly want Miles Sanders to have a role off the bench, but it's unclear if he'll get enough work to put a serious dent in Hubbard's fantasy value while Brooks is ineligible for the first month of the season. Hubbard figures to make his 25th career NFL start Week 1 at New Orleans.
Aug 24, 2024
Starting RB heading into season
Hubbard rushed three times for 15 yards and wasn't targeted in Saturday's 31-26 preseason win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard played the opening drive with Carolina's other starters, while Miles Sanders mixed in later with the backups, suggesting that Hubbard occupies the top spot on the depth chart heading into the Sept. 8 regular-season opener against the Saints. Rookie second-round pick Jonathon Brooks (knee) is expected to challenge for the starting job eventually, but Brooks isn't expected to be available until Week 3 at the earliest.
Aug 20, 2024
Practicing Tuesday
Hubbard (knee) is practicing Tuesday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
The running back returned to practice in short order, as promised by coach Dave Canales after Saturday's 15-12 preseason loss to the Jets. Hubbard hurt his knee during Thursday's practice and missed the remainder of the session, but testing afterward didn't reveal a significant injury. He's expected to start Week 1 at the Saints, but Miles Sanders could have a decent-sized role off the bench, and rookie second-round pick Jonathan Brooks (knee) figures to be a big factor in Carolina's backfield at some point this season.
Aug 17, 2024
Cleared for practice
Coach Dave Canales said after Saturday's 15-12 preseason loss to the Jets that Hubbard's knee checked out, and the running back will return to practice this week, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard has yet to play through two exhibitions, but his absence Saturday stemmed from a knee injury that he sustained during Thursday's joint practice with the Jets. Fortunately for the RB, he'll be able to mix into drills in the near future, and once he does he should be Carolina's No. 1 backfield option to begin the upcoming season due to second-round rookie Jonathon Brooks' continued recovery from a torn ACL that he suffered back in November.
Aug 15, 2024
Injures knee at practice
Coach Dave Canales said Thursday that there were "big concerns" when Hubbard (knee) went down at practice "but initial testing looks good," Kassidy Hill of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was looked at by trainers after taking a hit at practice, per Steve Reed of the Associated Press, and while the fourth-year pro got up and remained near the field, he didn't resume handling reps. It looks like initial tests haven't indicated an overly severe issue, but that Panthers will doubtless continue to monitor Hubbard's health. He sat out last week's preseason opener against New England and figures to also be held out of Saturday's exhibition matchup against the Jets.
Aug 8, 2024
Not suiting up Thursday
Hubbard isn't in line to play in Thursday's preseason game at New England, Kassidy Hill of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard will be joined in street clothes by fellow running backs Jonathon Brooks, Miles Sanders and Raheem Blackshear, leaving Mike Boone, Jaden Shirden and Dillon Johnson as the options available out of Carolina's backfield. Hubbard is expected to be the team's top RB to begin the 2024 campaign with Brooks, a rookie second-round pick, still in recovery mode from a torn ACL that he suffered last November. In 2023, Hubbard put together a career-best 1,135 yards from scrimmage while scoring five rushing touchdowns on 277 touches in 17 regular-season contests.
Apr 30, 2024
Facing tough snap competition
The Panthers took Texas RB Jonathon Brooks (torn ACL) in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, potentially giving Hubbard competition for a starting job, Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was positioned to enter Week 1 as a starter for the first time in his pro career, and while he's still the favorite for that task, snap competition in the Carolina backfield just got much tougher. The Panther took Brooks with the 46th overall pick, making him the first RB drafted in 2024 (20 selections before Trey Benson). They also still have Miles Sanders, who was a massive bust in the first season of his four-year contract but has a guaranteed $4.02 million salary for 2024. It's a situation where Hubbard's projection as the Week 1 starter might not mean much in terms of fantasy expectations for the full season, especially if reports continue to be positive on Brooks' rehab from the ACL tear he suffered Nov. 11.
Jan 7, 2024
Workhorse role to finish season
Hubbard rushed 23 times for 83 yards and brought in both targets for nine yards in the Panthers' 9-0 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
As has typically been the case during the latter portion of the season, Hubbard handled the clear lead back role and furnished his fourth tally of more than 80 rushing yards in the final six games, which all came in conjunction with 20-plus-carry workloads. Hubbard set new career bests with 902 rushing yards and 233 receiving yards across 17 games, sending him into the offseason with plenty of momentum.
Jan 1, 2024
Eclipses 70 total yards in loss
Hubbard rushed 11 times for 45 yards and secured four of five targets for 26 yards in the Panthers' 26-0 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard didn't have anywhere near the opportunities he'd enjoyed in several recent games, with the Panthers' inability to keep up with the Jaguars helping to neutralize the ground game. Hubbard's carry total was his lowest since Week 11, and he'll have one more opportunity to put together a productive effort in what has been a solid 2023 campaign when Carolina hosts the Buccaneers in Week 18.
Dec 29, 2023
Cleared for Sunday
Hubbard (hamstring) was as full practice participant Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers listed Hubbard as limited Wednesday and Thursday but apparently liked what they saw in practice and don't have any doubts about his Week 16 availability. He has a five-game streak with at least 64 percent snap share, 14 carries, 17 touches and 11.6 PPR points, piling up 446 yards and four TDs in that time.
Dec 28, 2023
Limited again Thursday
Hubbard (hamstring) was a limited practice participant Thursday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As was the case Wednesday, Hubbard is operating with a cap on his reps due to a hamstring issue one day later, while fellow running back Miles Sanders practiced without limitations due to a toe concern. Hubbard thus has one more chance to get back to all activity this week before the Panthers potentially give him a designation ahead of Sunday's game in Jacksonville.
Dec 27, 2023
Dealing with hamstring issue
Hubbard was a limited participant in practice Wednesday due to a hamstring injury.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of the Panthers' Week 16 loss to the Packers, Miles Sanders (toe) was the only Carolina running back who was reported to have sustained an injury in the contest. However, Sanders was able to log a full session to kick off Week 17 prep, while Hubbard operated with a cap on his reps. As such, the backfield situation will be monitored over the next two days of practice to see if Hubbard may be in danger of yielding snaps to Sanders on Sunday at Jacksonville.
Dec 24, 2023
Heavy workload in Week 16 loss
Hubbard rushed 16 times for 43 yards and a touchdown and brought in his only target for eight yards in the Panthers' 33-30 loss to the Packers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard once again had the backfield work early all to himself, outpacing Miles Sanders by 13 carries. However, he found surprisingly tough sledding against a Packers defense that had been frequently vulnerable to the run, but he managed to salvage his fantasy day with a four-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that served as his fifth of the campaign and tied his career high. Hubbard next takes aim at a tough Jaguars run defense in a Week 17 road matchup New Year's Eve.
Dec 17, 2023
Over 100 total yards in win
Hubbard rushed 22 times for 87 yards and secured both targets for 16 yards in the Panthers' 9-7 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard outpaced Miles Sanders by 16 carries in the victory and parlayed the opportunity into his second straight 87-yard tally on the ground. The second-year back also recorded multiple catches for the seventh time in the last eight games, and he's now logged over 20 rush attempts in three straight contests. Hubbard heads into a Week 16 home matchup against the Packers' porous run defense with the lead job firmly in hand.
Dec 10, 2023
Continues to lead team's offense
Hubbard rushed 23 times for 87 yards and caught both of his targets for nine yards in Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard had more than twice as many rushing yards (59) as Bryce Young had passing yards (29) in the first half. Unfortunately for the 24-year-old running back, the negative game script coupled with more touches for Miles Sanders (who finished with 10 carries for 74 yards) limited Hubbard's opportunities after halftime. Hubbard has built up some momentum with at least 92 scrimmage yards in three consecutive games heading into a Week 15 matchup with the Falcons.
Dec 4, 2023
Carries offense in Week 13 loss
Hubbard carried the ball 25 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Facing a stout Tampa Bay front seven, Hubbard punched home a pair of one-yard TDs en route to his first 100-yard game of the season and the third of his career. The 25 totes were also a career high for Hubbard, while Miles Sanders managed only 29 scrimmage yards on nine touches, a clear sign that interim head coach Chris Tabor isn't interested in maintaining the backfield timeshare Frank Reich had been deploying. Hubbard figures to see a big workload again in Week 14 against the Saints.
Nov 26, 2023
Effective in loss
Hubbard rushed the ball 14 times for 45 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Titans. He added five receptions for 47 yards.
ANALYSIS
Miles Sanders saw increased workload in the loss, but Hubbard's opportunity was largely undisturbed. He accounted for the Panthers' only touchdown on a five-yard run midway through the third quarter and the majority of the rest of his production came as a pass catcher. That allowed him to rack up his highest yardage total from scrimmage this season. Despite fairly steady opportunity, Hubbard is likely to remain reliant upon receiving work and touchdowns to post significant performances.
Nov 19, 2023
Highly efficient outing Sunday
Hubbard rushed 10 times for 57 yards and brought in both targets for eight yards in the Panthers' 33-10 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard logged one less carry than backfield mate Miles Sanders, who saw a notable resurgence in rushing work Sunday, but outgained his teammate by seven yards on the ground. Hubbard has seen double-digit rush attempts in four of the last five games, coming just one short of doing so in Week 10 as well. Therefore, despite Sanders' reintegration into the ground attack, Sanders should retain a significant role in a Week 12 road battle against the Titans.
Nov 9, 2023
Serves as lead back in loss
Hubbard rushed nine times for 23 yards and brought in both targets for 16 yards in the Panthers' 16-13 loss to the Bears on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard outpaced backfield mate Miles Sanders by seven carries but couldn't do much with his workload against one of the league's elite run defenses. The third-year back fell just short of a third-straight double-digit carry tally, and he appears to have a grip on the top role in the ground attack for the time being. Hubbard and the rest of the Panthers offense draw an unenviable matchup against an aggressive Cowboys defense in a Week 11 matchup on Nov. 19.
Nov 5, 2023
Modest numbers against Indy
Hubbard carried the ball 16 times for 58 yards and caught four of six targets for nine yards in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
The third-year running back saw 20 touches to Miles Sanders' nine, but Hubbard only out-gained his backfield partner 67 scrimmage yards to 61 on a poor day overall for the Carolina offense. Hubbard's been the more consistent back this season, but Sanders' more efficient performance Sunday could cause coach Frank Reich to tip the workload balance back in favor of the former Eagle in Week 10 against the Bears.
Nov 3, 2023
Named Week 9 starter
Coach Frank Reich confirmed Friday that Hubbard will start at running back Sunday against the Colts, Steve Reed of The Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard started the Panthers' previous two games, the first of which Miles Sanders missed due to a shoulder injury. Sanders returned in the 15-13 Week 8 win over the Texans, but Hubbard had 17 touches to Sanders' two. Reich said the two running backs will split carries against Indianapolis, so Hubbard may cede a larger portion of touches to Sanders despite maintaining his starting role.
Oct 29, 2023
Held in check Sunday
Hubbard carried the ball 15 times for 28 yards and caught both his targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 15-13 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
While his numbers weren't impressive, Hubbard led the Panthers in rushing and was the clear top option in the backfield, as Miles Sanders gained zero total yards on just two carries. Hubbard's Week 6 performance against the Dolphins (90 scrimmage yards and a rushing TD) is still the best by any Carolina RB this season, which should give him an edge on retaining the starting job in Week 9 against the Colts.
Oct 29, 2023
Likely to get starting nod
Hubbard is expected to serve as the Panthers' starting running back over Miles Sanders in Sunday's game against the Texans, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing the Panthers' Week 6 loss to the Dolphins with a shoulder injury, Sanders is back to full health following a Week 7 bye, but he looks like he could be eased back into the mix as Option 1B out of the backfield. Head coach Frank Reich has hinted that the Panthers plan to take more of a timeshare approach to the running back position moving forward, with Hubbard earning an expanded role in light of Sanders' early-season struggles. Hubbard is averaging 4.5 yards on 54 carries this season, well ahead of Sanders' average of 3.1 yards (on 61 carries).
Oct 15, 2023
Strong showing as lead back
Hubbard carried the ball 19 times for 88 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Dolphins. He added one reception for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard accounted for 19 of Carolina's 25 rushing attempts in the absence of Miles Sanders (shoulder). He delivered consistent gains to keep the offense on schedule and also sprinkled in a long gain of 17 yards as well as a six-yard touchdown run. Hubbard was curiously disregarded as a receiver -- he had multiple targets in every game leading up to Sunday's matchup -- though his volume left little to complain about. Carolina will head into a Week 7 bye, but there's at least a possibility that Hubbard will have the chance to lead the backfield once again in a Week 8 matchup against Houston.
Oct 13, 2023
Likely to lead backfield Sunday
Hubbard is expected to serve as the Panthers' lead back Sunday against the Dolphins with Miles Sanders (shoulder) ruled out for the contest, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. "We'll do it by committee, but Chuba will more than likely get the bulk of the carries,'' head coach Frank Reich said.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard had already seemingly worked his way into a timeshare with Sanders the past two weeks, playing 73 snaps on offense to the latter's 64 while out-touching him 26-23 during that stretch. With Sanders sidelined Week 6, Hubbard could be ticketed for a true three-down role for the first time this season, though Reich's comments suggest that Laviska Shenault and third-string back Raheem Blackshear -- who has been inactive the past four weeks -- could be sprinkled into the backfield mix. Regardless, Hubbard should handily outpace Shenault and Blackshear for snaps and touches, making him a viable option in fantasy lineups this week.
Oct 9, 2023
Get most carries again
Hubbard rushed nine times for 35 yards and caught one of two targets for no yards in Sunday's 42-24 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard played only two fewer offensive snaps than starter Miles Sanders and led Carolina in carries and rushing yards for the second straight week. With Sanders losing a fumble Sunday as well, Hubbard could get further opportunities at his expense. However, given Hubbard's usually mild yardage and Week 6's tough matchup at the Dolphins, the veteran's outlook should only receive a slight uptick.
Oct 2, 2023
Leads Panthers backfield
Hubbard rushed 14 times for 41 yards and caught both of his targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 21-13 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard actually played eight more offensive snaps than starter Miles Sanders, enabling him to lead Carolina in both carries and rushing yards. Despite that involvement, though, his overall production was underwhelming. With Sanders struggling more Sunday, finishing with just 32 scrimmage yards on 16 touches, it'll be interesting to see how the Panthers' backfield workload is split in Week 5 versus the Lions.
Sep 25, 2023
Only three touches
Hubbard finished with just one carry for two yards and two receptions on three targets for two yards in Sunday's 37-27 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard logged a season low in touches despite featuring for one-third of Carolina's offensive snaps. After an efficient first couple weeks, his nearly non-existent output Sunday emphasized the downside associated with his backup tailback role.
Sep 19, 2023
Involved as receiver
Hubbard rushed twice for 16 yards and caught all five of his targets for 34 yards in Monday night's 20-17 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard only got a couple of opportunities in the running game but again was efficient. Through two games, he's totaled 76 yards on just 11 carries behind starter Miles Sanders. That said, he made a bigger impact Monday as a pass-catcher, placing second on the Panthers in catches. His production should keep him involved as the backup in Week 3 versus the Seahawks.
Sep 11, 2023
Productive season opener
Hubbard rushed nine times for 60 yards and caught both of his targets for nine more yards in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard's output on the ground was helped by a rush of 21 yards, which was Carolina's longest offensive play of the game. His 11 touches marked decent usage for a second-string tailback, even while starter Miles Sanders commanded twice as many. Hubbard figures to remain in a similar role in Week 2 versus the Buccaneers.
Sep 8, 2023
Expected to see action Sunday
Coach Frank Reich said Hubbard will "see action" behind Miles Sanders in Sunday's game against the Falcons, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Reich said the Panthers will approach Week 1 like Sanders is "full go," but Hubbard looks like the clear No. 2 back in Carolina, ahead of Raheem Blackshear. Hubbard still has very little fantasy value outside of deeper leagues with Sanders healthy.
Aug 25, 2023
Not suiting up Friday
Hubbard isn't slated to play in Friday's preseason game versus the Lions, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard injured his ankle last Friday against the Giants, and while he was able to return to practice Monday, the Panthers will exercise caution with the third-year pro. He'll be joined on the sideline by fellow running back Miles Sanders (groin), which will leave Carolina's backfield in the hands of Raheem Blackshear, Spencer Brown and Camerun Peoples. Hubbard's next chance for game action will arrive in a Week 1 road game with the Falcons on Sunday, Sept. 10.
Aug 21, 2023
Back at practice
Hubbard (ankle) returned to practice Monday, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
As did starter Miles Sanders, who missed the past week and a half with a groin injury. Hubbard made it back even faster, practicing only three days after he suffered an ankle injury in Friday's 21-19 preseason loss to the Giants. Sanders' absence allowed Hubbard to start the first two preseason games, in which he carried 12 times for 39 yards and caught his lone target for three yards. With those two locked in atop the depth chart, the real question in Carolina's backfield is how things play out behind them between Raheem Blackshear, Spencer Brown and Camerun Peoples.
Aug 18, 2023
Suffers ankle injury Friday
Coach Frank Reich said Hubbard sustained an ankle injury during Friday's 21-19 preseason loss at the Giants, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
For a second consecutive contest, Hubbard started for the hobbled Miles Sanders (groin), turning his eight carries into 30 yards. Now that the Panthers' top two running backs are injured, the team is left with Raheem Blackshear, Spencer Brown and Camerun Peoples as its healthy running backs. While Sanders likely will be sidelined until Week 1, it remains to be seen if Hubbard will be able to play in the preseason final on Friday, Aug. 25 versus the Lions.
Aug 12, 2023
Gets start with Sanders sidelined
Hubbard rushed four times for nine yards and caught his only target for three yards in Saturday's 27-0 preseason loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard worked with the first-team offense in the absence of Miles Sanders (groin). None of the team's starters looked particularly impressive in this one, but Hubbard's usage here suggests he's viewed as the primary backup to Sanders. The Panthers are likely to take a cautious approach with Sanders' injury prior to the regular season, so Hubbard's likely to draw another start in Carolina's second preseason game against the Giants.
Mar 17, 2023
Facing tougher snap competition
Hubbard has new competition in the Carolina backfield with Miles Sanders replacing D'Onta Foreman, WCNC's Nathaniel Puente reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanders recently signed a four-year, $25.4 million contract, including $13 million guaranteed, while Foreman settled for a much smaller one-year deal with the Bears after playing out last year on a similar contract for Carolina. He and Hubbard handled the vast majority of RB snaps/touches after the team traded Christian McCaffrey, with Hubbard notably finishing the year on a high note as he racked up 435 total yards over his final five games. The 2021 fourth-round pick now figures to take a backseat to Sanders, whose uneven tenure in Philadelphia was capped off by a career-best 259-1269-11 rushing line last season. The Panthers could still add more backfield talent, or perhaps find a passing-down role for Raheem Blackshear, given that Sanders and Hubbard both have struggled with drops and don't look especially natural as receivers or blockers. Hubbard's new role might just be as a backup on early downs, with upside dependent on Sanders missing time.
Jan 8, 2023
Tops 20 carries
Hubbard rushed 21 times for 69 yards in Sunday's 10-7 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard's season high in carries came after teammate D'Onta Foreman was ejected early in the third quarter. Although he wasn't very efficient with his involvement Sunday, Hubbard's importance behind Foreman grew this season after the Panthers traded Christian McCaffrey in October. In 15 games, Hubbard rushed 95 times for 466 yards (4.9 per carry) for two touchdowns, and caught 14 of 17 targets for 171 yards. Despite Carolina facing uncertainty over their coach, quarterback and starting tailback next season -- when it's unclear whether Foreman will return -- Hubbard's dependability through his first two seasons could see him remain involved as a complementary option regardless of the surrounding pieces.
Jan 1, 2023
Stands out as receiver Sunday
Hubbard rushed three times for 12 yards and secured all three targets for 53 yards in the Panthers' 30-24 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard's rushing work unexpectedly dried up, but he did salvage his day somewhat with his solid work through the air. The second-year back's carry total was his lowest since Week 6, but he does have a trio of three-catch efforts over the last four games going into a Week 18 road matchup against the Saints.
Dec 24, 2022
Gets over 100-yard mark in win
Hubbard rushed 12 times for 125 yards in the Panthers' 37-23 win over the Lions on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The second-year back teamed with backfield mate D'Onta Foreman to consistently rip off chunk plays against what had been an improving Lions run defense, although 65 of Hubbard's yards actually came on his first two carries of the contest. Hubbard's yardage total was a career high and marked only his second time eclipsing the century mark, and he'll aim to once again play a key role when the Panthers visit the Buccaneers for a critical Week 17 matchup on Sun., Jan. 1 that could decide the NFC South title.
Dec 18, 2022
Impact as receiver
Hubbard rushed four times for 10 yards and caught all three of his targets for 57 yards in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard actually led the Panthers in rushing yards, evidencing their struggles in the ground game. Despite that situation, he still made a strong impact as a receiver, going for a game-long gain of 45 yards at one point. Without a double-digit touch count like in his two games prior, however, Hubbard's output came from fewer opportunities.
Dec 11, 2022
Nearly 100 from scrimmage
Hubbard rushed 14 times for 74 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-24 win over the Seahawks. He also caught all three of his targets for 25 yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard scored from two yards to begin the second quarter. The tailback tied teammate D'Onta Foreman for Carolina's lead in rushing yards, although Hubbard did so from seven fewer carries. With the Panthers totaling 46 rushing attempts, there were plenty of opportunities to go around, as third-stringer Raheem Blackshear even carried four times for 32 yards and a score. However, thanks to his contribution in the passing game, Hubbard was the most productive member of the backfield, turning in an impressive Week 14 performance.
Nov 27, 2022
Earns 17 carries
Hubbard rushed the ball 17 times for 65 yards in Sunday's 23-10 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard saw a relatively even split in workload with D'Onta Foreman, which led to his first game of the season with double-digit rushing attempts. Hubbard was still the secondary back, however, and benefitted from an extremely run-heavy offensive game plan for the Panthers. Moving forward, Carolina will likely have to throw the ball more often to remain competitive, in which case Hubbard's role can be projected to shrink.
Nov 20, 2022
Plays second fiddle again
Hubbard rushed four times for no gain and brought in two of three targets for 25 yards in the Panthers' 13-3 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard played a clear second fiddle to D'Onta Foreman again , logging nine fewer carries than his backfield mate. The second-year pro did make an impact through the air with his pair of catches, but his fantasy prospects remain muted going into a Week 12 home date against the Broncos.
Nov 11, 2022
Limited role in return
Hubbard (ankle) rushed five times for 14 yards in the Panthers' 25-15 win over the Falcons on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard's minimal role wasn't a complete surprise given he was coming off a two-game absence due to an ankle injury and the fact backfield mate D'Onta Foreman had proven successful in a lead-back role. Interim head coach Steve Wilks continued to afford Foreman the opportunity to helm the backfield Thursday night, a decision that proved to be very prudent considering the latter gained 130 yards and scored a touchdown. Consequently, Hubbard appears set to work in a strict complementary role again during a Week 11 road matchup against the Ravens a week from Sunday.
Nov 10, 2022
Suiting up Thursday
Hubbard (ankle) is listed as active Thursday against the Falcons, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
As a result, Hubbard will put an end to a two-game absence due to an ankle injury. Considering he was able to log back-to-back full practices to cap Week 10 prep, he's likely back to 100 percent, or close to it. However, the breakdown of snaps and touches between Hubbard and D'Onta Foreman remains to be seen. Foreman reeled off 100-yard rushing performances Weeks 7 and 8 before falling off to just 23 yards on seven carries this past Sunday in Cincinnati. Meanwhile, Hubbard boasts 6.5 YPC on his 15 rushes this season, so he could be productive if given the chance Thursday.
Nov 10, 2022
In line to play Thursday
Hubbard (ankle) is expected to play Thursday against the Falcons, barring a pregame setback, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out the Panthers' last two contests due to an ankle issue, Hubbard capped Week 10 prep with full practices Tuesday and Wednesday, only to be tabbed as questionable for Thursday's outing. His availability likely will be tied to a pregame workout, but assuming he gets through that unscathed, he'll rejoin D'Onta Foreman in the team's post-Christian McCaffrey backfield. On the campaign, Hubbard has averaged 6.5 YPC on his 15 rushes, hauled in three of four targets for 11 yards and scored one rushing touchdown in seven appearances.
Nov 9, 2022
Questionable despite full practice
Hubbard (ankle) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against Atlanta, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard seems likely to play after the Panthers listed him as a full practice participant Tuesday and Wednesday. He was the starting running back last time he played and took 11 touches for 73 yards before suffering the ankle injury (Week 7 vs. Tampa), but it's possible Hubbard handles a lesser role upon his return after D'Onta Foreman scored three TDs in a Week 8 loss to Atlanta. The Panthers now face that same vulnerable Falcons defense again, and perhaps with a healthy backfield this time.
Nov 8, 2022
Full practice Tuesday
Hubbard (ankle) practiced in full Tuesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard attempted to give it a go last week, when he logged limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday, but he was a DNP on Friday and ruled out for Carolina's Week 9 visit to Cincinnati. Now with full practice under his belt this week, he's poised to return to the lineup Thursday against the Falcons following a two-game absence. With Christian McCaffrey out of town, Hubbard and D'Onta Foreman are the top candidates for touches out of the Panthers backfield. Whether or not Hubbard can wrest a bigger share of the reps away from Foreman remains to be seen, but Hubbard has reeled off 6.5 YPC on his 15 rushes this season without the benefit of a 20-plus yard run, so he could make a decent impact with a modest workload.
Nov 8, 2022
Seen at practice Tuesday
Hubbard (ankle) was present at the media-access portion of Tuesday's practice, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of back-to-back absences due to an ankle injury, Hubbard was listed as limited on Monday's estimated practice report. Now that the Panthers are logging some on-field work during Week 10 prep, he seems in line to be at least a limited participant Tuesday. Still, Hubbard's status is up in the air as the team prepares for Thursday's game against the Falcons. If he gains clearance to play, there's a decent chance he'd play second fiddle to D'Onta Foreman, who has two 100-yard efforts on the ground in the last three contests.
Nov 7, 2022
Limited on practice estimate
Hubbard (ankle) was listed as limited on Monday's practice estimate, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard has missed the Panthers' last two games due to an ankle injury, so he's no lock to return to action Thursday night against the Falcons. However, Tuesday's practice should provide added context on that front and if Hubbard is able to return to action in Week 10, he'd bolster a Carolina backfield that has been paced by D'Onta Foreman of late, following the team's trade of Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers.
Nov 4, 2022
Ruled out for Week 9
Hubbard (ankle) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard did not practice Friday after having been limited Wednesday and Thursday, setting him up for a second straight missed contest. That positions D'Onta Foreman, who is coming off back-to-back games with 100-plus rushing yards, to lead Carolina's backfield again Sunday versus the Bengals. Hubbard's next chance to play will come on Thursday Night Football against the Falcons in Week 10.
Nov 3, 2022
Remains limited Thursday
Hubbard (ankle) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard emerged from Week 7 with a sprained ankle that kept him off the practice field last week and sidelined him this past Sunday in Atlanta. After two capped sessions to kick off Week 9 prep, he appears to be closing in on a return to action. Ultimately, his listing on Friday's injury report will give a sense of his potential to play Sunday at Cincinnati. If he's able to suit up this weekend, Hubbard may play second fiddle to D'Onta Foreman, who has gone for exactly 118 rushing yards in back-to-back games.
Nov 2, 2022
Limited in return to practice
Hubbard (ankle) was a limited practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
It was his first participation since spraining his ankle in the fourth quarter of a Week 7 win over Tampa Bay. Teammate D'Onta Foreman then scored three TDs in the Week 8 loss to Atlanta sans Hubbard, who said Monday that he hopes to make it back for the game in Cincinnati this Sunday. Coach Steve Wilks said he'll have a chance, and Hubbard still has two more chances to log a full practice by the end of the week.
Nov 2, 2022
Returns to practice
Hubbard (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday, Ellis L. Williams of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard and coach Steve Wilks both were optimistic Monday that the running back would return for Sunday's game in Cincinnati, after his absence from the Week 8 loss to Atlanta helped D'Onta Foreman score a trio of touchdown. Hubbard actually got more work than Foreman through the first three quarters of Carolina's first game without Christian McCaffrey (Week 7), only to exit early with an ankle sprain. It looks like he may miss just the one game, though it's possible he's now fallen behind Foreman in the backfield pecking order.
Oct 31, 2022
Trending in right direction
Hubbard (ankle) and interim head coach Steven Wilks both said Monday that they feel good about the possibility of the running back playing in Week 9, Steve Reed of the Associated Press and Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard wasn't able to practice during Week 8 prep due to an ankle injury he picked up a week prior. However, it appears the time off did the running back well, and he'll have a shot to play Sunday against the Bengals. With Christian McCaffrey gone, D'Onta Foreman has dominated over the last two games, but if Hubbard is available, expect him to carve out a sizable role against Cincinnati as well.
Oct 28, 2022
Ruled out for Week 8
Hubbard (ankle) is officially ruled out for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard hasn't practiced in any capacity since injuring his ankle Week 7 versus Tampa Bay, setting him up for at least a one-game absence. That positions D'Onta Foreman to lead Carolina's backfield in Atlanta on Sunday, while Raheem Blackshear could also see increased reps while bumping up to the No. 2 role. Hubbard's next chance to play will come Week 9 on the road against Cincinnati.
Oct 28, 2022
Misses third straight practice
Hubbard (ankle) is not practicing Friday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard hasn't practice in any capacity since injuring his ankle during last Sunday's win over the Buccaneers. Friday's official injury report will provide Hubbard with an official game designation for Sunday's contest against Atlanta, but it certainly looks like he's trending in the wrong direction. If Hubbard is inactive Week 8 or even limited, D'Onta Foreman will have a clear path to leading Carolina's backfield.
Oct 27, 2022
Sidelined for another practice
Hubbard (ankle) isn't practicing Thursday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Though previous reports suggested that Hubbard could have returned to last Sunday's win over the Buccaneers if needed after he sprained his ankle during the contest, the running back's absence from the Panthers' first two Week 8 practices suggests his injury may be more of a concern than originally believed. Hubbard will have a chance to factor into the Panthers' backfield rotation this Sunday in Atlanta if he's able to practice in some capacity Friday, but another missed workout would likely take him out of the mix. If Hubbard is sidelined Week 8, D'Onta Foreman would presumably have a clear path to the lead role on the ground as the Panthers play their second game since trading Christian McCaffrey away to San Francisco.
Oct 26, 2022
Non-participant in practice
Hubbard (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was pedaling on an exercise bike and wearing a red jersey while his healthy teammates practiced Wednesday afternoon. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Hubbard could've kept playing in Sunday's win over the Bucs if he'd been needed, but the Panthers had an 18-point lead at the time of his ankle injury and kept the second-year RB sidelined for the rest of the afternoon. His absence from practice Wednesday does create some question about his availability for Sunday's game against Atlanta, with D'Onta Foreman and third-string back Raheem Blackshear in line to see more work if Hubbard can't play. Coach Steve Wilks said Wednesday that the Panthers will continue to use a committee approach in the backfield, Ellis L. Williams of The Charlotte Observer reports.
Oct 23, 2022
Hurts ankle in Week 7
Hubbard injured his ankle during Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With Christian McCaffrey out of town, Hubbard got the start in Carolina's first contest following the trade, working in tandem with D'Onta Foreman before departing in the fourth quarter. Prior to his exit, Hubbard had nine carries for 63 yards and one touchdown and gathered in two of three targets for 10 yards.
Oct 23, 2022
Listed as starting RB
Hubbard is listed as Carolina's starting running back for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Carolina's backfield carries are uncertain after the trade of Christian McCaffrey. It looks like Hubbard will get the first shot at getting the bulk of carries, which is a mild surprise as D'Onta Foreman was thought to be the next in line to start. However, the team may use a rotation and the position could remain in flux.
Oct 21, 2022
Likely behind Foreman
Hubbard likely will work in a change-of-pace role behind D'Onta Foreman moving forward, Ellis Williams of the Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Foreman will likely be the main beneficiary of the trade that sent Christian McCaffrey to San Francisco, though interim coach Steve Wilks said Friday that Foreman and Hubbard will form a running back committee with the Panthers riding the hot hand, per Joe Person of The Athletic. Both running backs are worth a speculative add in an offense that will likely continue to rely heavily on the position, but Hubbard has the lower touch floor.
Oct 21, 2022
Workload set to increase
Hubbard will see an increase in carries after Christian McCaffrey was traded Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard has been a non-factor through six games this season, managing only six carries. His workload will surely increase after the departure of McCaffrey, though it's unclear how Hubbard and D'Onta Foreman will split work moving forward, as Foreman has 12 carries as opposed to Hubbard's six. If a relatively even split occurs, both Hubbard and Foreman could struggle to post big lines given the current state of the Panthers' offense.
Oct 17, 2022
Gets three touches
Hubbard rushed twice for six yards and caught his only target for another yard in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard played only four offensive snaps but broke his two-game stretch without a touch. With PJ Walker suffering a neck injury, the Panthers lost their fourth quarterback of the season Sunday, resulting in a bit more run than usual for Hubbard and D'Onta Foreman. However, as long as star Christian McCaffrey is healthy, both tailbacks hold limited fantasy value.
Oct 11, 2022
No touches again
Hubbard did not get any touches in Sunday's 37-15 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard played 11 offensive snaps but didn't get the ball for the second straight game, evidencing his minimal value behind Christian McCaffrey.
Oct 4, 2022
No touches Sunday
Hubbard played only three offensive snaps in Sunday's 26-16 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard didn't get any touches and hardly saw the field offensively despite Christian McCaffrey nursing a thigh injury during the week. With fellow Carolina tailback D'Onta Foreman getting just one carry for two yards Sunday, neither he nor Hubbard have much value as long as McCaffrey is available.
Sep 26, 2022
Gets three carries
Hubbard rushed three times for 25 yards in Sunday's 22-14 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard surrendered kickoff-return duties after fumbling last week, but he at least got involved a bit offensively. Along with his seven snaps surpassing teammate D'Onta Foreman's four, Hubbard was productive with his touches while Foreman didn't get the ball at all. However, as long as Christian McCaffrey is healthy, neither Hubbard nor Foreman hold much fantasy value.
Sep 20, 2022
Plays two offensive snaps
Hubbard failed to record a single carry in Sunday's 19-16 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard took over as the Panthers' primary kickoff returner in the contest with Andre Roberts (knee) on injured reserve. Though not involved in the offensive game plan, the 23-year-old totaled 75 yards on three kickoff returns. Barring an injury to Christian McCaffrey, it's likely Hubbard will struggle to see much of an opportunity in Carolina's backfield, especially since D'Onta Foreman has established himself as the team's No. 2 running back. The second-year back will likely to continue to focus on handling kickoff return duties for the foreseeable future.
Sep 14, 2022
Set to handle kick-return duties
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Wednesday that Hubbard will take over as the primary kick returner while Andre Roberts (knee) is on injured reserve, Schuyler Callihan of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Roberts was diagnosed with a PCL sprain and will be forced to miss at least four games after landing on IR, leaving Hubbard to take over as the kick returner and Shi Smith to handle punt returns. Hubbard returned one kick for 21 yards as a rookie last year.
Sep 12, 2022
Just three snaps
Hubbard rushed one time for three yards in Sunday's 26-24 loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard played just three offensive snaps, having little chance to make an impact. While fellow tailback D'Onta Foreman's seven plays weren't many more than Hubbard's tally, neither was deployed often behind star Christian McCaffrey, muting their respective stocks ahead of Week 2's matchup versus the Giants.
Aug 27, 2022
Produces little on ground
Hubbard carried the ball four times for four yards in Friday's preseason win over the Bills. He also tallied three receptions on six targets for 25 yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard served as the team's kick returner and also earned the first touches out of Carolina's backfield -- with Christian McCaffrey resting. Hubbard wasn't effective on the ground, but he did tally receptions of 11 and eight yards. Though Hubbard served as the starter, D'Onta Foreman got three straight touches at the goal line midway through the first quarter. The battle between Hubbard and Foreman will be worth monitoring throughout the season, particularly given the recent injury history of McCaffrey.
Aug 19, 2022
Does little against Pats
Hubbard carried the ball six times for 22 yards and caught one of two targets for minus-4 yards in Friday's preseason game against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
D'Onta Foreman got the start for the Panthers as Christian McCaffrey was again held out, but Foreman and Hubbard saw roughly equal workloads on the night. Neither one was effective, as no Carolina back managed a run longer than seven yards, but Hubbard at least saw a little action as a receiver, something he didn't do much of as a rookie last year. It seems as though the battle for the Panthers' No. 2 RB spot will continue into next week's preseason finale against the Bills.
Aug 14, 2022
Starts in preseason opener
Hubbard rushed four times for 11 yards in Saturday's 23-21 preseason win over the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard started the contest with Christian McCaffrey sitting out. Although he didn't play for long, it's notable Hubbard worked ahead of D'Onta Foreman, whose signing this offseason gives Hubbard fresh competition to back up McCaffrey. With Foreman finishing Saturday with three carries for five yards, Carolina's second-string tailback competition should remain worth tracking over the exhibition slate.
May 25, 2022
Has company behind McCaffrey
Hubbard is anticipated to see offseason signing D'Onta Foreman offer a bigger, more physical complement to he and starter Christian McCaffrey this season, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard enjoyed an expanded role with McCaffrey sidelined for 10 games last season, gaining 786 scrimmage yards and scoring six times from 197 touches as a rookie. At 6-1, 236 pounds, though, Foreman offers a more imposing presence to Carolina's backfield and is fresh off impressing while replacing the injured Derrick Henry in Tennessee last season. His addition along with Hubbard's development going into Year 2 should give the Panthers ample insurance if McCaffrey's health remains fleeting, having missed 23 games the past two seasons. However, compared to last year when Hubbard faced relatively little competition to start while McCaffrey was sidelined, Foreman could now push him for the backup role and cut into his workload.
Jan 9, 2022
Scores in finale
Hubbard rushed nine times for 48 yards and caught both of his targets for eight yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 41-17 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was productive despite seeing fellow tailback Ameer Abdullah lead the Panthers with 16 touches. The rookie's presence was felt early on, as Hubbard hauled in a two-yard touchdown to cap Carolina's opening drive. Afterward, he was overall was efficient on the ground, helped by a long gain of 19 yards. With star Christian McCaffrey (ankle) playing just seven games this season, Hubbard was forced into an expanded role, starting 10 games. The fourth-rounder finished with 172 carries for 612 yards and five touchdowns while catching 25 of 37 targets 174 yards and another score. Given McCaffrey's injury history and hefty contract, the Panthers may try to trade him this offseason. Whether they find a taker or not, Hubbard proved to be a solid backup capable of starting if required during his rookie campaign.
Jan 2, 2022
Scores in defeat
Hubbard rushed 17 times for 55 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 18-10 loss to the Saints. He also caught three of four targets for 13 yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard scored the game's first touchdown by taking a toss 21 yards into the end zone to begin the second quarter. That play tied for Hubbard's second-longest rush of his rookie campaign and helped compensate for an otherwise difficult day on the ground. With 20 total touches, though, Hubbard was comfortably Carolina's most utilized tailback, with backup Ameer Abdullah getting the ball 10 times on offense. Despite having another tough matchup in Week 18 versus the Buccaneers, Hubbard's leading role gives him decent value.
Dec 26, 2021
Minimal production in loss
Hubbard rushed six times for nine yards and failed to bring in his only target in the Panthers' 32-6 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard unsurprisingly found nearly non-existent running room during his few opportunities against a notoriously stingy Buccaneers defensive front. Then, game script eventually nullified the Panthers' ground attack for the most part, making it an utterly forgettable fantasy afternoon for the rookie. Despite his role as a de facto lead back to close out the season, Hubbard has seen single-digit carries in each of the last two games and has been an almost complete non-factor as a receiver since Week 7. He'll have another unenviable assignment in Week 17 as well in the form of a Saints team that's on par with Tampa Bay in terms of stopping the run.
Dec 19, 2021
Sees eight carries
Hubbard ran for 40 yards on eight carries against Buffalo on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard's production was mostly driven by a 21-yard carry in the first quarter, with the other seven carries producing just 19 yards. He saw backup runner Ameer Abdullah poach four carries (though for just seven yards) and four targets, all of which were caught for a total of 48 yards and a touchdown. Hubbard might have more ability as a pure runner than Abdullah, but Abdullah seems to be distinguishing himself as the team's best pass-catching option at running back in the absence of Christian McCaffrey. The Panthers get a difficult matchup against Tampa Bay in Week 16.
Dec 12, 2021
Salvages day with rushing TD
Hubbard rushed 10 times for 33 yards and a touchdown and wasn't targeted in the passing game during the Panthers' 29-21 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Stepping back into a lead-back role for Christian McCaffrey (IR-ankle), Hubbard ended up with the same number of carries as Cam Newton and also saw game script turn against the ground attack in the second half. However, Hubbard was able to salvage his fantasy day with a 17-yard scamper in the second quarter. The rookie did prove capable of much better production during his earlier stint as the No. 1 back this season, so he could well see a bump in workload, albeit in a very tough matchup, against the Bills on the road Week 15.
Nov 29, 2021
In line for starting role
Hubbard is in line to serve as the Panthers' starting running back after Christian McCaffrey (ankle) was ruled out for the season Monday.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard served as the lead back in the second half of Sunday's loss to the Dolphins, and he's in line to serve as the No. 1 running back across the final five games of the regular season. The rookie also filled in for McCaffrey when he missed five games due to a hamstring injury earlier in the season, and he totaled 89 carries for 329 yards and two touchdowns while securing 13 of 18 targets for 88 yards during that time. Ameer Abdullah should serve as Carolina's primary backup.
Nov 29, 2021
Helps replace McCaffrey
Hubbard rushed two times for six yards and didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 33-10 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard didn't impact the box score much, but it's important to note that starting tailback Christian McCaffrey played just one second-half snap after injuring his ankle Sunday. McCaffrey was also seen in a walking boot after the contest, raising some concern over his status despite Carolina now entering its bye week. Should he be limited at all once the Panthers return, Hubbard and Ameer Abdullah would figure to assume much of McCaffrey's vacated workload, potentially elevating both of their respective stocks.
Nov 22, 2021
Not used Sunday
Hubbard played just one offensive snap in Sunday's 27-21 loss to Washington.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard saw superstar Christian McCaffrey and quarterback Cam Newton combine for 20 of Carolina's 21 rushing attempts, perhaps a sign of things to come going forward. Although him playing just one snap was still rather surprising given his recent production, Hubbard's backup role behind such accomplished runners restricts his fantasy upside, with Sunday serving as a glaring example of that.
Nov 14, 2021
Scores off bench
Hubbard rushed nine times for 27 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-10 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard got just three carries while watching star Christian McCaffrey rack up nearly 130 scrimmage yards in the first half. However, after McCaffrey was seen in Carolina's medical tent early in the third quarter and was subsequently left on the sideline for most of the second half, Hubbard garnered more of the workload. In particular, he capitalized with a five-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter. While the Panthers' comfortable lead may have contributed toward McCaffrey watching most of the late-game action, if his status is impacted by any injury going forward, Hubbard would figure to again be the main beneficiary, having filled in admirably while McCaffrey was sidelined five games with a hamstring issue earlier this season.
Nov 7, 2021
Has long gain
Hubbard rushed three times for three yards and caught one of two targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard saw his usage scaled back significantly with star Christian McCaffrey returning to the fold. Whereas McCaffrey topped 100 scrimmage yards from his 18 touches, Hubbard was left with only a handful of opportunities, but he at least made the most of his lone reception. As McCaffrey garners more work going forward, expect Hubbard's role to remain restricted, putting him on the back burner after a stretch of success filling in as the starter.
Nov 7, 2021
Welcomes back McCaffrey
Hubbard will be joined by Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) in the Panthers' backfield Sunday against the Patriots, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Even with McCaffrey back in the fold for the first time since Week 3, there's an expectation he'll be on a snap count as he works his way back from a strained hamstring. As a result, Hubbard will remain involved in Carolina's offense, but he may be hard-pressed to approach the 20.4 touches per game he was given during McCaffrey's five-game absence. It's difficult to project what can be expected of both players, and a smaller workload for Hubbard may not pay dividends for one averaging just 3.6 yards per carry this season.
Oct 31, 2021
Gets 25 touches
Hubbard rushed 24 times for 82 yards and a touchdown but lost a fumble in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Falcons. He also caught one of two targets for nine yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard coughed it up on Carolina's first offensive play but proceeded to garner his second-highest touch total of the season. That came despite recent addition Ameer Abdullah totaling 66 yards on his 11 touches and fellow tailback Royce Freeman getting the ball six times as well. Although Hubbard wasn't particularly efficient on the ground, his six-yard touchdown during the fourth quarter helped the Panthers snap their four-game losing streak. Next up is a matchup against the Patriots in Week 9, but with star Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) reportedly on track to return for that game, Hubbard may see his workload cut significantly going forward.
Oct 24, 2021
Held to 56 total yards
Hubbard carried the ball 12 times for 28 yards in Sunday's 25-3 loss to the Giants. He added four receptions for 28 yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard accounted for 12 of the team's 17 rushing attempts but was unable to get going on the ground. He managed a rush of 13 yards but was often stuffed at the line of scrimmage otherwise. Hubbard did manage to supplement his production with four receptions, his second-highest mark of the season. Despite serving as the team's top back, Hubbard has now managed only 121 yards across 33 total touches in the last two games. Given the Panthers' offensive struggles as a whole, Hubbard may find it difficult to work efficiently in upcoming matchups.
Oct 17, 2021
Scores first NFL touchdown
Hubbard rushed 16 times for 61 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-28 loss to Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard finally hit pay dirt in his fourth start in place of the injured Christian McCaffrey (hamstring). The latter was just placed on IR this past week, assuring the rookie tailback at least two more starts following his solid outing Sunday. Hubbard will get a very favorable matchup in Week 7 when the Panthers take on the Giants' 28th-ranked rush defense (137.2 rushing yards allowed per game).
Oct 16, 2021
Lead back for foreseeable future
Hubbard is expected to operate as the lead running back for at least the next three weeks after Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
It's obviously a disappointing development for McCaffrey, who had already been ruled out ahead of Week 6's contest, but Hubbard fantasy managers have to be giddy about the guaranteed workload especially with three straight matchups against inferior defensive talent on tap. The rookie fourth-round pick has certainly lived up to the billing as a top-tier backup accumulating 284 total yards on 58 touches since taking over for the injured McCaffrey in Week 3. While the Panthers will likely sign or elevate another running back from the practice squad in short order, it's hard to imagine anyone threatening Hubbard's workload at the moment.

Another start on tap
Hubbard will be the Panthers' starting running back Sunday against the Vikings with Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) sidelined for a third consecutive game, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Since taking over for McCaffrey in the second quarter of a Week 3 win at Houston, Hubbard has racked up 48 carries for 210 yards and 10 catches (on 13 targets) for 74 yards. Most of Hubbard's output during that stretch came Week 5, when he reeled off 134 yards from scrimmage on 29 touches against the Eagles. With Royce Freeman the only competition for reps out of the Panthers backfield -- he has 13 touches over the last three games -- Hubbard yet again is poised to be the lead runner in Carolina.

Draws Week 5 start
Hubbard will pick up a second straight start at running back Sunday against the Eagles with Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) inactive for the contest, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The starting assignment was fully expected for Hubbard after McCaffrey took a doubtful designation into the weekend following limited practices Wednesday through Friday. While McCaffrey was sidelined for the Week 4 loss to Dallas, Hubbard paced the backfield with 13 carries for 57 yards, but he was limited to two catches for 14 yards on two targets in the passing game, as Carolina leaned on Rodney Smith as its primary third-down back. As such, a true three-down role may not await Hubbard on Sunday, but he still looks like a strong fantasy option as the lead runner for a Carolina squad that will be facing the NFL's 31st-ranked run defense.

Likely getting another start Week 5
Hubbard is expected to remain the Panthers' starting running back for Sunday's game against the Eagles with top option Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) listed as doubtful for the contest, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Though McCaffrey and head coach Matt Rhule consistently expressed optimism throughout the week about the former's recovery from the hamstring injury, McCaffrey looks set to miss his second straight game after he managed only limited participation in practices Wednesday through Friday. Unless McCaffrey exhibits remarkable progress heading into Sunday, he'll yield starting duties to Hubbard, who played 47 percent of the offensive snaps in the Week 4 loss to the Cowboys and finished with 71 yards on 15 touches (13 carries, two catches). A negative game script for most of that contest resulted in Hubbard losing some passing-down work to Rodney Smith, but the rookie could be in better position to deliver a more useful fantasy line Week 5. Not only are the Panthers home favorites in the contest, but Hubbard will also be facing off against the NFL's 31st-ranked run defense.

Manages 71 total yards
Hubbard recorded 13 rushes for 57 yards in Sunday's Week 4 loss to the Cowboys. He added two receptions for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard led the Panthers' backfield, accounting for 13 of the team's 24 rushing attempts. He was particularly effective early on in the contest, as he managed gains of 14 and 12 yards on the team's third offensive possession. Despite the hot start, he was scripted out of the chance to produce as the Panthers' fell behind by three touchdowns by late in the third quarter. It's unclear how long Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) will remain sidelined, but assuming he can't return in Week 5 against the Eagles, Hubbard should once again have the chance to lead the Panthers' backfield.

Confirmed as Week 4 starter
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Wednesday that Hubbard will serve as the team's starting running back Sunday in Dallas, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Though top back Christian McCaffrey is expected to miss several weeks after injuring his hamstring in the Sept. 23 win over the Texans, the Panthers are apparently optimistic that he'll be sidelined for less than three games, as Rhule said McCaffrey won't be placed on injured reserve. In any case, Hubbard should be in store for an expanded opportunity for at least the next two contests, starting with Sunday's showdown in Dallas. Though Royce Freeman is on hand as an experienced backup option behind Hubbard, the rookie out of Oklahoma State has exhibited a three-down skill set over his 64 offensive snaps through Carolina's first three games. In addition to carrying 19 times for 62 yards, Hubbard has run routes on 34 of the 38 pass plays in which he's been on the field, recording eight receptions for 31 yards on eight targets. He's also won in both of his pass-blocking opportunities, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Bumps up depth chart
Hubbard has jumped up the Panthers' depth chart following word that McCaffrey is expected to miss multiple games due to a hamstring strain, Adam Maya of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McCaffrey was forced from Thursday's eventual win at Houston early in the second quarter, and Hubbard took on most of the backfield work thereafter. By the end of the game, Hubbard logged 40 of 73 offensive snaps (55 percent), while reserve Royce Freeman got on the field for 11 (15 percent). Hubbard was the clear beneficiary in terms of production, as he recorded 11 rushes for 52 yards (4.7 YPC) and caught three of five targets for 27 yards. Meanwhile, Freeman managed 25 total yards on six touches. As long as McCaffrey is sidelined, Hubbard should be Carolina's primary back, with Freeman mixing in on occasion. Meanwhile, Rodney Smith and Spencer Brown are the running backs on the practice squad, and the Panthers already have worked out veteran RB Duke Johnson.

Replaces injured McCaffrey
Hubbard rushed 11 times for 52 yards and caught three of five targets for 27 yards in Thursday night's 24-9 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was forced into extended action after superstar Christian McCaffrey exited during the second quarter with a hamstring injury. Although the rookie fourth-rounder promptly proceeded to drop a pass and get stuffed on a fourth-and-one attempt -- and later dropped a would-be touchdown in the second half -- Hubbard still racked up commendable yardage on short notice. Obviously, McCaffrey's status should be paramount to monitor ahead of Week 4's matchup versus the Cowboys, but if he's sidelined or slowed, Hubbard and recent veteran signing Royce Freeman would figure to have their roles expanded, with Thursday seeing the first-year tailback being preferred as the primary option in McCaffrey's absence.

Gets eight carries
Hubbard rushed eight times for 10 yards in Sunday's 26-7 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was handed a decent workload despite Christian McCaffrey finishing with 29 touches. However, Hubbard playing a quarter of Carolina's 76 overall offensive snaps came partially as a result of McCaffrey missing a couple drives while dealing with cramps, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports. After hardly getting anything going with his carries Sunday, Hubbard will hope to make a bigger impact if called upon in Thursday's upcoming game versus the Texans.
Sep 13, 2021
Hauls in two passes
Hubbard caught both his targets for four yards and returned a kickoff for 21 yards in Sunday's 19-14 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard played 24 snaps on special teams but just seven on offense in his regular-season debut. The rookie fourth-rounder could struggle to see the field as long as superstar Christian McCaffrey is healthy, but it's at least encouraging that he hauled in a couple of passes in his brief involvement Sunday.
Sep 7, 2021
Likely to return kicks
Hubbard is anticipated to serve as the Panthers' kickoff returner, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard took back kickoffs in his freshman season at Oklahoma State and will now apparently be given the opportunity in his opening NFL campaign. That role would give Hubbard extra chances to flash his big-play ability, as Christian McCaffrey's presence atop the tailback depth chart could restrict his offensive snaps. Carolina's recent signing of Royce Freeman gives Hubbard fresh veteran competition to backup McCaffrey as well, so it'll be interesting to see how the team's backfield plays are divided early on.
Aug 28, 2021
Garners large workload
Hubbard rushed 10 times for 35 yards and caught three of four targets for 15 yards in Friday night's 34-9 preseason win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard started at tailback and led the Panthers in touches, but a dropped pass put a small damper on his evening. The rookie endured a few miscues while also making a few big plays during the preseason, so consistency will be key as Hubbard expects to serve as Christian McCaffrey's backup in the upcoming campaign.
Aug 27, 2021
Starting preseason Week 3
Hubbard is slated to start Friday's preseason contest versus the Steelers, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With all of Christian McCaffrey (healthy scratch), Reggie Bonnafon (undisclosed) and Rodney Smith (undisclosed) unavailable, Hubbard should be afforded plenty of run with the rest of the No. 1 offense. Through two exhibitions, Hubbard, a rookie fourth-rounder, has turned 16 carries into 104 yards and hauled in three of six targets for 31 yards.
Aug 22, 2021
Leads team in touches
Hubbard rushed nine times for 24 yards and caught both his targets for 29 yards in Saturday's 20-3 preseason loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard played nearly half of Carolina's offensive snaps, leading the team's skill-position players in touches. Although he made a good impact in the passing game, Hubbard couldn't punch in two handoffs from the one-yard line to begin the game. He also fumbled later on, with the Panthers fortunately recovering. The rookie fourth-rounder's high involvement suggests he's leading the race to serve as Christian McCaffrey's understudy, but Hubbard will be eager to cement his spot with an strong showing in next Friday's preseason finale versus the Steelers.
Aug 15, 2021
Strong rushing debut
Hubbard rushed seven times for 80 yards in Sunday's 21-18 preseason loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard put his athleticism on display by ripping off a 59-yard scamper that made up most of his rushing contributions. On the flip side, he was only able to corral one of four passing targets for two yards. Christian McCaffrey figures to dominate the backfield touches -- both on the ground and through the air -- so the competition between Hubbard and Reggie Bonnafon likely will be for insurance and not much else.
Aug 8, 2021
Competing for backup job
Hubbard has been competing with veteran Reggie Bonnafon for the Panthers' backup tailback job during training camp, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Hubbard was selected in the fourth round after a productive college career at Oklahoma State. The rookie recently made an impressive catch for a touchdown in practice, which should bode well as he aims to stave off Bonnafon to become superstar Christian McCaffrey's top understudy. The final pecking order likely won't be determined until after the preseason, however, making Hubbard's performance in the upcoming weeks worthwhile to monitor.

Set to back up McCaffrey
The Panthers selected Hubbard in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, 126th overall.
ANALYSIS
Carolina adds a depth option behind Christian McCaffrey with Mike Davis leaving in free agency. Hubbard was a star at Oklahoma State who could have gone higher had he left for the draft after his 2019 season in which he ran for 2,094 yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards per carry. Injuries cut his final season short and he averaged just 4.7 yards per carry. Hubbard was lightly used as a pass catcher with just 53 catches in three seasons, so that could be an area for improvement at the next level. If nothing else, he's a viable back who can help lighten the load on McCaffrey in Carolina when needed.
