Season high stops in loss
Dugger recorded six total tackles (two solo) and a pass defensed in Sunday's 31-28 loss to Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was able to secure a season-high six stops, finishing second only to fellow safety Jalen Ramsey (9) in takedowns for Pittsburgh. The 29-year-old has now registered 18 total tackles (eight solo) and three passes defensed, including a pick-six, over four contests with the Steelers.
Nov 17, 2025
Returns pickoff for TD
Dugger recorded three tackles (all solo) and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown, in Sunday's 34-12 win over Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
With Pittsburgh ahead by just four points and the Bengals driving late in the third quarter, Dugger intercepted a Joe Flacco pass intended for Tee Higgins and returned it 73 yards for a touchdown. It was Dugger's first pickoff as a member of the Steelers and his first touchdown since he scored three times with New England in 2022. Since being traded to Pittsburgh on Oct. 28, Dugger has posted 12 tackles and two defensed passes over three contests.
Oct 30, 2025
Logs full practice Thursday
Dugger (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger missed this past Sunday's game against Cleveland due to a knee issue. He was then traded from New England to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Dugger's ability to log a full session Thursday suggests he's healthy enough to play Sunday against Indianapolis, but he may not have had enough time to be fully up to speed with Pittsburgh's playbook. Mike DeFabo of The Athletic mentions that the Steelers have a "contingency plan" at strong safety if Dugger isn't ready for a full workload.
Oct 28, 2025
Shipped to Pittsburgh
The Steelers acquired Dugger (knee) and a 2026 seventh-round pick from the Patriots in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After starting all 13 regular-season games in which he appeared last season, Dugger fell out of favor under the new coaching staff in New England and logged just 44 percent of the defensive snaps across the first seven weeks of the season before being inactive with a knee injury in Week 8. With DeShon Elliott (knee) looking at a multi-week absence, the Steelers needed another safety. Dugger joins Chuck Clark, Jabrill Peppers and Juan Thornhill at the position in Pittsburgh.
Oct 26, 2025
Inactive for Week 8
Dugger (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Dugger appeared to sustain a knee injury during Week 8 prep, which limited his practice participation Thursday and Friday, and will ultimately sideline him for Sunday's home game. Dugger's absence means Dell Pettus, Brenden Schooler and Richie Grant will serve as the Patriots' depth options at safety behind Craig Woodson and Jaylinn Hawkins. Dugger will look to progress enough in his recovery to return for Week 9 against the Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 2.
Oct 24, 2025
Questionable for Sunday
Head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters that Dugger (knee) is questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Browns, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger likely sustained a knee injury at some point this week, as he popped up on New England's injury report Thursday as a limited practice participant. The 29-year-old started at strong safety in each of the Patriots' last two contests, recording five total tackles while Jaylinn Hawkins was sidelined with a hamstring injury. With Hawkins back to full health, Dugger is expected to operate as a reserve safety if available for Sunday's game.
Oct 12, 2025
In line to start Week 6
Dugger is slated to start at safety against the Saints on Sunday due to the absence of Jaylinn Hawkins (hamstring), Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger played just one defensive snap and seven snaps on special teams during the Patriots' Week 5 win over the Bills. However, the 2020 second-rounder appears to be in line to work with the Patriots' starting defense in the absence of Hawkins. Dugger has 12 tackles (five solo) through five regular-season games this year.
Jul 23, 2025
Participating in training camp
Duggar (ankle) was a full partiicpant in New England's training camp session Wednesday, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Duggar has now fully recovered from ankle surgery he underwent in January after having been limited during voluntary OTAs. The 29-year-old will look to build upon his strong season during the 2024 campaign where he recorded 81 tackles (55 solo), with 1.0 sacks, despite being limited to just 13 games.
May 28, 2025
Limited Wednesday
Dugger (ankle) was limited during Wednesday's voluntary OTAs, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger underwent offseason ankle surgery, so it's no surprise he's a limited participant during New England's voluntary OTAs. The Lenoir-Rhyne product is one of the Patriots' most impactful defenders, recording 81 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, four passes defended and one forced fumble across 13 games in 2024. Once Dugger returns to full health, he's expected to serve as the team's top strong safety.
Jan 24, 2025
Undergoes surgery on ankle
Dugger played through a high-ankle sprain in 2024 and had surgery Jan. 9 to address the injury, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger's ankle injury likely contributed to his decline in production, as he dipped from 109 tackles in 2023 to 81 in 2024. The strong safety projects to be back in a starting role in 2025, which will be the second season of Dugger's four-year, $58 million contract.
Jan 13, 2025
Records 81 tackles this season
Dugger finished the 2024 regular season with 81 tackles (55 solo), and a sack in 13 games.
ANALYSIS
After logging a career-high 109 tackles in 2023, 2020 second-rounder wasn't able to hit the century mark this past season, while missing four games. Dugger signed a four-year, $58 million deal with the Patriots last April, so he'll be back to reprise his starting safety role with the franchise in 2025.
Jan 5, 2025
Will play against Buffalo
Dugger (ankle/quadriceps) is active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Like he's done for most of the season, Dugger will play Sunday through multiple lower-body injuries and will start at safety alongside Marte Mapu. Dugger has logged 27 tackles (18 solo) in the three games since the Patriots' Week 14 bye.
Jan 3, 2025
Questionable for Week 18
Dugger (ankle/quadriceps) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger has spent much of the 2024 season on the Patriots' injury report but hasn't missed a game since Week 10. He enters the Week 18 finale with 79 tackles (53 solo), including eight TFLs and 1.0 sacks, four pass breakups and one fumble recovery.
Dec 30, 2024
Nine tackles vs. Chargers
Dugger tallied nine tackles (six solo) during the Patriots' 40-7 loss to the Chargers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Dugger played a season-high 74 defensive snaps Saturday and finished as the Patriots' second-leading tackler behind Jahlani Tavai (10). Over his last six games, Dugger has registered 44 tackles (27 solo) and two pass defenses. The Patriots have given up at least 28 points in four of their last six games, but they'll look to finish the 2024 regular season off strong in Week 18 against a Bills team that is locked into the No. 2 seed of the AFC and will likely rest its starters.
Dec 28, 2024
Good to go
Dugger (ankle/quadriceps) is available for Saturday's contest against the Chargers,
ANALYSIS
Dugger has been playing through an ankle injury the previous five games, but he's clear to play again in Week 17. Barring any setbacks, he should take on his usual role at strong safety. However, he will again be without his fellow safety Jabrill Peppers (hamstring).
Dec 26, 2024
Listed as questionable for Week 17
Dugger (ankle/quadriceps) is questionable to play against the Chargers on Saturday after logging a limited practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Dugger has been able to play through an ankle injury during the Patriots' last five games, and over that span he accumulated 35 tackles (21 solo) and two pass defenses. Thursday's session was the only practice Dugger was able to participate in, so his official status for Saturday's game might not be known until New England releases its inactive players list about 90 minutes before the 1:00 p.m. kickoff. Jaylinn Hawkins and Marte Mapu would be in line for increased snaps at safety if either or both of Dugger and Jabrill Peppers (hamstring) were unable to play.
Dec 23, 2024
Eight tackles against Buffalo
Dugger tallied eight tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Dugger entered Sunday's game with a questionable tag due to a lingering ankle injury, but that didn't slow him down as he played every single defensive snap and led the Patriots' defense in tackling. Dugger has played every defensive snap in four of New England's last five games, and over that span he has accumulated 35 tackles (21 solo) and two pass defenses.
Dec 22, 2024
Playing against Buffalo
Duffer (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Dugger has been working through an ankle injury for several weeks, but it won't prevent him from playing in Sunday's AFC East clash. Over his last four games, Dugger has logged 27 tackles (15 solo) and two pass defenses.
Dec 20, 2024
Questionable for Week 16
Dugger (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Dugger has been playing through the ankle injury for weeks, and Sunday should be no different after he again practiced on a limited basis. Through 10 games this season, Dugger has 62 tackles (41 solo), including seven TFLs and 1.0 sacks, four pass breakups and one forced fumble.
Dec 19, 2024
Logs limited practice
Dugger (ankle/illness) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was sidelined for Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury and illness, but it appears he is progressing through both issues as he was able to practice in a limited capacity Thursday. A full practice Friday would give him a good shot at avoiding an injury designation heading into Sunday's game against Buffalo.
Dec 18, 2024
Dealing with ankle injury
Dugger did not practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was the leading tackler for the Patriots' in their 30-17 loss to the Cardinals this past Sunday, finishing with 10 tackles (six solo) while playing every single defensive tackle. However, it appears he picked up an ankle injury in the process, and he will have two more chances this week to practice ahead of Sunday's AFC East clash against the Bills. Over his last four outings, Dugger has logged 27 tackles (15 solo) and two pass defenses.
Dec 17, 2024
Leading tackler in loss
Dugger registered 10 tackles (six solo) during New England's loss Sunday versus the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was one of the Patriots' few bright spots during Sunday's loss as he managed to record double-digit tackles for the second time this campaign. He has now racked up 62 tackles (41 solo), with 1.0 sacks, across 10 outings this season and will look to add to those totals during the team's Week 16 matchup versus the Bills.
Dec 15, 2024
Will suit up versus Arizona
Dugger (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Dugger will suit up for the fourth game in a row while continuing to deal with an ankle injury. Across nine appearances this season, the 28-year-old has totaled 52 tackles, one sack and four passes defended. He'll continue to suit up as the Patriots' top strong safety.
Dec 13, 2024
Questionable for Sunday
Dugger (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Dugger has been nursing an ankle injury for the past couple months, but he's been able to play in each of the Patriots' last three games, so he's likely to continue suiting up Sunday following a week of limited practice sessions. However, if the Lenoir-Rhyne product is sidelined in Week 15, Jaylinn Hawkins will likely start alongside Jabrill Peppers as New England's top safety duo.
Dec 11, 2024
Limited on Wednesday
Dugger (ankle) was limited in Wednesday's practice, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger has been dealing with the ankle injury for weeks but has played in three straight games, and New England is coming off its bye week. On the season, Dugger has 52 tackles (35 solo), including 1.0 sacks, four pass breakups and one forced fumble across nine appearances.
Dec 2, 2024
Fine day in close loss
Dugger recorded eight tackles (five solo) and a pass defensed during Sunday's 25-24 loss versus the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Dugger played all 58 of New England's defensive snaps in Week 13, and he came away with his highest tackle total since Week 7 at Jacksonville. He hasn't been quite as productive this season as he was last year, but he's done enough to place himself on the fringes of the IDP radar for the fantasy playoffs after the Patriots' bye in Week 14.
Dec 1, 2024
Will play Sunday vs. Indianapolis
Dugger (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Dugger will play through an ankle injury for a third straight week after missing three games earlier in the season due to that same issue. The fifth-year safety has logged 44 tackles (30 solo), including 1.0 sacks, three passes defensed and one forced fumble across eight regular-season games.
Nov 29, 2024
Questionable for Week 13
Dugger (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was sidelined from Week 8 through 10 due to an ankle injury, but he's been able to play through the issue for the Patriots' last two regular-season games. Given his limited participation in practice all week, it's likely that the fifth-year safety should be able to suit up Sunday. Across his last two outings, Dugger logged nine tackles (four solo) and one pass defense.
Nov 27, 2024
Opens week with limited work
Dugger (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old has now played through his ankle issue in consecutive games, so Wednesday's limited practice session is likely precautionary. Dugger has tallied 44 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, and three passes defended through eight appearances this season, and he'll likely continue playing through injury unless he downgrades to no participation Thursday or Friday.
Nov 24, 2024
In for Sunday
Dugger (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
The starting safety put in limited practice sessions after playing through the injury in the Patriots' Week 11 loss to the Rams. Dugger still played on all 51 defensive snaps in that game. He has 38 tackles (26 solo), including 1.0 sacks, two pass breakups and a forced fumble in seven games this season.
Nov 22, 2024
Questionable for Sunday
Dugger (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Dugger practiced in a limited fashion throughout the week after playing through his ankle issue in the Patriots' Week 11 loss to the Rams. If the 28-year-old's injury worsened and he's unable to suit up for the Week 12 divisional matchup, Jaylinn Hawkins will likely serve as New England's top strong safety.
Nov 20, 2024
Limited Wednesday
Dugger (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger returned after to the field for Sunday's loss to the Rams after a three-game absence due to an ankle injury, recording three total tackles while playing 100 percent of the Patriots' defensive snaps. This suggests that Wednesday's limited session is likely precautionary, and the Lenoir-Rhyne product is expected to suit up for the Week 12 divisional matchup against the Dolphins unless he downgrades to no participation Thursday or Friday.
Nov 17, 2024
Good to go vs. Rams
Dugger (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Rams, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was a limited practice participant all week, and he will return Sunday from a three-game absence due to an ankle injury. Dugger will reclaim his starting spot at strong safety and will solidify the Patriots' secondary against a Rams' offense that didn't score a touchdown in Week 10 against the Dolphins.
Nov 15, 2024
Questionable for Sunday
Dugger (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Dugger practiced in a limited fashion throughout the week and has missed the Patriots' last three games due to an ankle injury. It now appears he has a chance to return for New England's Week 11 matchup against the Rams; however, if he's unable to do so, expect Jaylinn Hawkins to serve as the Patriots' top strong safety Sunday.
Nov 13, 2024
Opens week with limited work
Dugger (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old has missed the Patriots' last three games due to an ankle injury, but Wednesday's DNP suggests he could be nearing a return to the field. Dugger has recorded 35 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, and defended two passes in six appearances this season. If Dugger can return for New England's Week 11 matchup against the Rams, it would be a significant boost to an already hot Patriots defense, which has allowed 22 or fewer points in each of its last three games.
Nov 8, 2024
Missing another week
Dugger (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Bears, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was unable to practice all week and is now in line to miss his third consecutive game Sunday due to an ankle injury. Jaylinn Hawkins is expected to continue serving as the Patriots' top strong safety until Dugger can return to the field.
Nov 6, 2024
Still not practicing Wednesday
Dugger (ankle) did not participate at practice Wednesday, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger has missed the Patriots' last two games due to an ankle injury, and now his availability for Week 10 is in doubt, too. He'll probably have to practice in some capacity Thursday or Friday to have a chance to play Sunday.
Nov 3, 2024
Will miss Week 9
Dugger (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's tilt against Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was a late addition to the injury report last weekend and will now miss his second straight game due to the issue. He did manage a trio of limited sessions in practice this week, which suggests he has a chance to return to action next Sunday versus Chicago. Jaylinn Hawkins is likely to start at strong safety against the Titans in Dugger's stead Sunday.
Nov 1, 2024
Questionable for Week 9
Dugger (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was a limited participant at each of New England's three practice this week, but his status remains up in the air for Week 9. If he is forced to miss a second game in a row due to his ankle injury, Jaylinn Hawkins will likely draw another start at strong safety versus Tennessee.
Oct 30, 2024
Limited Wednesday
Dugger (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Dugger missed the Patriots' Week 8 win over the Jets due to an ankle injury likely sustained in practice, but Wednesday's limited session indicates he could be nearing a return to the field. His participation Thursday and Friday will provide the best indication of whether he can return in Week 9, when the Patriots travel to Tennessee.
Oct 27, 2024
Will miss Week 8
Dugger (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was a late addition to New England's injury report, as he practiced in full both Thursday and Friday before getting added to the report with a questionable tage Saturday. The severity of his ankle issue isn't clear, but the injury is going to sideline him for at least Sunday's AFC East clash. Dugger's absence will be a significant blow to the Patriots' secondary, as the safety logged 100 percent of the team's defensive snaps in five of the team's seven contests coming into Week 8. When Dugger was sidelined Week 5 against Miami, Jaylinn Hawkins stepped into a starting role, which will likely be the case again Sunday.
Oct 26, 2024
Questionable to face Jets
Dugger (ankle) has been added to the Patriots' injury report Saturday and is officially questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Dugger missed Week 5 due to an ankle injury, and the same issue may have now resurfaced. Jaylinn Hawkins played 95 percent of defensive snaps Week 5, so if Dugger ends up missing any more time, New England has already signaled which player will inherit an every-down role in his stead.
Oct 21, 2024
Pats' leading tackler in loss
Dugger recorded 11 tackles (nine solo) and a pass defensed during Sunday's 32-16 loss against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Dugger got back on track in the tackle category in Week 7, tallying more than four for the first time since Week 2. He's on the IDP radar headed into a Week 8 matchup versus the Jets as he looks to build on Sunday's performance.
Oct 13, 2024
Active for Sunday's game
Dugger (ankle) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Texans.
ANALYSIS
After limited practice sessions Thursday and Friday, Dugger -- who was inactive in Week 5 -- was deemed questionable for the contest. Now that his active status versus Houston has been confirmed, Dugger should step back into his usual starting slot in New England's defense, a role that has yielded the safety 20 tackles, a forced fumble and 1.0 sacks in four contests to date.
Oct 11, 2024
Could return Sunday
Dugger (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Texans, Mark Daniels of MassLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger upgraded to limited participation Thursday and Friday after logging a DNP to begin the Patriots' week of practice, suggesting that he's trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's contest. If Dugger is unable to suit up in Week 6, expect Jaylinn Hawkins to serve as New England's top strong safety.
Oct 10, 2024
Gets back on field
Dugger (ankle) was a limited participant during practice Thursday, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger hasn't stepped on the field since suffering the ankle injury in the Patriots' Week 4 loss to the 49ers. Although the team never really offered a timeline for his recovery, he did supposedly dodge a serious injury, so a return this week is possible. More clarity on his status for Sunday's game against the Texans could come Friday.
Oct 9, 2024
Not at practice Wednesday
Dugger (ankle) did not participate at practice Wednesday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger hasn't been able to play or even practice at all since suffering an ankle injury during Week 4 at San Francisco. If he can't get back on the practice field Thursday or Friday, he'll probably miss his second game in as many weeks Sunday.
Oct 6, 2024
Won't play Sunday
Dugger (ankle) is inactive Sunday against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was unable to practice this week after suffering the injury last Sunday. The timeline for his return to full health has remained murky, but he'll now have to wait until at least Week 6 to get back in action. Jaylinn Hawkins will likely start in his place.
Oct 4, 2024
Listed questionable for Week 5
Dugger (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was injured in last Sunday's Week 4 loss to the 49ers but reportedly avoided a serious injury. He didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday before receiving his questionable tag Friday. Jaylinn Hawkins took Dugger's spot in the lineup next to Jabrill Peppers following the injury.
Oct 3, 2024
Misses practice
Dugger (ankle) did not practice Thursday, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger seems like a longshot to play Sunday against the Dolphins with reports earlier in the week stating his timeline for a return was up in the air. He'll likely need to return to the field in some capacity Friday to have any chance of being active for the matchup. If Dugger can't suit up Sunday, Jaylinn Hawkins could be the next man up at strong safety.
Oct 2, 2024
Return date still murky
Dugger (ankle) avoided a serious injury during Sunday's loss to the 49ers. However, a timeline for his return is still up in the air, Karen Guregian of The Springfield Republican reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger seems to have received confirmation on the Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com report Tuesday that he "likely" avoided a serious injury. That's good news for the veteran safety and the Patriots, but it appears he'll remain questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Oct 1, 2024
Likely avoided serious injury
Dugger (ankle) likely avoided a serious injury in Sunday's loss to the 49ers, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger's timeline for a return as well as an official diagnosis are still unknown, but it appears the Patriots are not expecting the 28-year-old to miss a significant amount of time. Further clarity on his injury and status for this Sunday's against the Dolphins should come later in the week.
Sep 29, 2024
Won't return vs. Niners
Dugger has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the 49ers due to an ankle injury, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger will finish Sunday's contest with two tackles. Jaylinn Hawkins will serve as the Pats' strong safety for the rest of the game alongside free safety Jabrill Peppers.
Sep 29, 2024
Leaves game with ankle injury
Dugger is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the 49ers due to an ankle injury, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was checked on by trainers on the sideline before leaving on a cart to the locker room. Jaylinn Hawkins has come in for Dugger at strong safety.
Sep 16, 2024
Dominant despite loss
Dugger logged eight tackles (eight solo), with 1.0 sack, during New England's 23-20 overtime loss to Seattle on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was questionable heading into Sunday's matchup due to an ankle injury but ended up having a dominant performance for the Patriots. The 28-year-old's eight tackles were tied for most on the team, and he also managed to record his first sack of the season.
Sep 15, 2024
Cleared to play Week 2
Dugger (ankle) is active for Sunday's clash with Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Dugger appeared on the injury report Thursday and Friday due to an ankle injury and was able to participate in practice only in a limited capacity both days. However, the veteran safety will be able to suit up Sunday against the Seahawks. Dugger's availability is important for a Patriots secondary going up against Seattle's talented receiver trio of DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba in Week 2.
Sep 13, 2024
Questionable for Sunday
Dugger (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Seahawks, Mark Daniels of MassLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dugger's Week 2 availability is in jeopardy after he popped up on New England's injury report Thursday as a limited participant in practice. The 28-year-old was able to practice in a limited fashion Friday as well, but if he's unable to suit up Sunday, expect Jaylinn Hawkins to serve as the Patriots' top strong safety.
Sep 12, 2024
Pops up on injury report
Dugger (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice session.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, but the 2020 second-round pick appears to be nursing an ankle injury. His participation Friday will provide clarity on his chances of playing against the Seahawks on Sunday.
Apr 7, 2024
Gets long-term deal
Dugger and the Patriots agreed Sunday on a four-year, $58 million deal, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Rapoport, Dugger's contract is worth up to $66 million and contains $32.5 million guaranteed. Earlier in the offseason, New England placed its transition tag on Dugger, but the tag merely served as a placeholder until the 28-year-old safety was able to work out a longer-team deal with the Patriots. Dugger turned in his best season yet in 2023, appearing in all 17 of the Patriots' games while logging 109 tackles, 1.5 sacks, seven passes defensed, two interceptions and one forced fumble.
Mar 5, 2024
Will receive transition tag
The Patriots will place their transition tag on Dugger, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, by placing the transition tag (worth $13.81 million) on Dugger, the Patriots retain the right to match any free agent offers that the starting safety might receive from other teams. In 17 games during the 2023 regular season, the 2020 second-rounder recorded a career-high 109 tackles to go along with two interceptions and 1.5 sacks.
Jan 14, 2024
109 tackles in contract year
Dugger logged a career-high 109 tackles, to go along with two interceptions and 1.5 sacks in 17 games with the Patriots during the 2023 regular season.
ANALYSIS
Dugger, who Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site describes as one of the NFL's most versatile defenders, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. It remains to be seen if he'll re-sign with the team that took him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but if so Dugger would be in line to remain a key cog in New England's defense in 2024, while operating as a starting safety.
Jan 1, 2024
Productive game in defeat
Dugger finished with 10 tackles (seven solo) and a pass defensed in the Patriots' 27-21 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The strong safety played all 68 defensive snaps even though he was questionable (undisclosed) coming into the game. Dugger has yet to miss a game this year and has played at least 83 percent of the defensive snaps in all of them. The fourth-year pro has 103 tackles, seven passes defensed, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 2023.
Dec 31, 2023
Good to go
Dugger (undisclosed) is available for Sunday's tilt verus the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Dugger was considered questionable for Sunday's tilt, but he is ultimately feeling good enough to play through it. Look for him to take on his usual role at strong safety assuming he avoids any setbacks.

The 2020 second-rounder produced at a rate that led to a degree of fantasy utility and is slated to remain a key cog in the Patriots' secondary next season. Per Paul Perillo of the team's official site Dugger, who is signed through 2023, made strides in coverage in his second year (as a pro), but still has some room for growth in his game in terms of overall consistency.

Dugger notched six tackles (four solo) during Sunday's 27-24 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
After registering 27 tackles and two interceptions across his previous three contests, Dugger's performance Sunday was lackluster. Dugger remains worth IDP consideration, particularly in deeper leagues.

ANALYSIS

Dugger (toe) did not participate during Thursday's practice session.
ANALYSIS
Dugger dealt with an ankle issue that held him out Weeks 7 and 8, but he's otherwise avoided missing game time during his rookie campaign out of Lenior-Rhyne. The No. 37 overall choice from April's draft did not have an injury designation to kick off the practice week, but now he's surfaced with an issue as New England readies for a Week 12 matchup against Arizona. Dugger has collected his first two NFL starts over the Patriots' past two games, logging 18 combined tackles on 102 defensive snaps.
Nov 9, 2020
Good to go Monday
Dugger (ankle) is active for Monday's game versus the Jets.
ANALYSIS
The rookie is returning to duty after two weeks on the sidelines. Dugger logged a 42 percent snap share, or higher, in three of the four games before his injury, and a similar role can be expected in this primetime matchup. He may return kicks as well because J.J. Taylor (illness) is out.
Nov 6, 2020
Maintains limited participation
Dugger (ankle) was a limited participant in Friday's practice, Zack Cox of NESN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This was Dugger's second limited session of the week. He was limited throughout all of last week but was ultimately inactive against the Bills, so this isn't necessarily an indication of his status. If he's forced to sit out again, J.J. Taylor (illness) should slot in at kick returner if healthy, while Terrence Brooks sees an uptick in snaps at safety.
Oct 31, 2020
Set to sit again
Dugger (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game versus the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Dugger will miss a second straight game. He's been a solid defensive player when healthy, handling a consistent snap count and posting 16 tackles over the last four games. The rookie second-rounder works as a kick returner, too, but J.J. Taylor should serve in that role for the time being.
Oct 25, 2020
Out with ankle injury
Dugger (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie second-round pick has played a rotational role in the second this year and could have been a factor in coverage against George Kittle, but the Patriots will have to utilize their other options. Terrence Brooks could see increase work with Duggar sidelined Week 7.
Sep 22, 2020
Six tackles against Seahawks
Dugger recorded six tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 35-30 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
With the Seahawks airing it out early and often, Dugger was on the field a lot, increasing his defensive snap share from 18-percent in Week 1 to 54-percent in Week 2. He sits behind Adrian Phillips and Devin McCourty on the safety depth chart, but could continue seeing usage as a gadget player depending on the Patriots' defensive gameplan. He will look to build on his solid performance in Week 3 against the Raiders.
