Career year in 2024
Settle finished the 2024 regular season with 31 total tackles (24 solo), including 5.0 sacks, while also adding a fumble recovery across 17 games.
ANALYSIS
Settle signed a two-year contract with the Texans in March, which turned out to be a good deal for Houston. The defensive tackle secured a career-high 31 total takedowns while matching a career-best 5.0 sacks in 2024. Settle will enter the 2025 campaign with some momentum ahead of a contract year with Houston.

Good to go Thursday night
Settle (calf) was not listed on the Texans' injury report Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Settle tweaked his calf during Sunday's loss to the Packers, but it doesn't appear to be a serious issue as he was able to practice without limitations Tuesday. Barring any setbacks, the 2018 fifth-round pick should be able to suit up against the Jets on Thursday night. Settle is on a two-game sack streak, and through the first eight games of the regular season he has accumulated 14 tackles (13 solo), including 4.0 sacks.

Dealing with calf injury
Settle injured his calf in Sunday's Week 8 matchup against Indianapolis and is questionable to return.
ANALYSIS
Settle had a good game going prior to getting hurt, notching a team-high three tackles, including 1.0 sacks. The defensive tackle has maintained a steady workload throughout the campaign, logging over half of the Texans' defensive snaps every week since Week 3. Kurt Hinish could be called upon to absorb Settle's snaps if the latter isn't able to return following halftime.

Headed to Houston
The Texans signed Settle to a two-year deal worth up to $7 million Thursday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After spending the first six years of his career with the Commanders and Bills, the 26-year-old defensive lineman is headed to Houston. Across Settle's two seasons with the Bills, he appeared in 32 games and recorded 33 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, while also defending one pass. The Virginia Tech product is expected to have the chance to compete for a solid role on the Texans' defensive line, especially with the departure of Sheldon Rankins this offseason.

Will return against Dolphins
Settle (calf) is active Week 3 against Miami.
ANALYSIS
Settle will not only return after a week of limited practices, but he could see a much larger role given the absence of both Ed Oliver (ankle) and Jordan Phillips (hamstring). The fifth-year DT made just one tackle in 28 snaps in Week 1, so while he probably won't be on the average IDP radar, the Buffalo defensive front will be counting on him to keep up its early-season momentum.
Sep 23, 2022
Questionable for Week 3 return
Settle (calf) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Settle missed the Bills' Week 2 victory but logged three limited practices leading up to the showdown in Miami. With both Ed Oliver (ankle) and Jordan Phillips (hamstring) ruled out, Settle could have a big role along the defensive line if he is cleared to play.

Back to work after missing Week 2
Settle (calf) has been able to practice on a limited basis the past two days.
ANALYSIS
Settle missed the Week 2 win over Tennessee after making a one-tackle debut for the Bills in Week 1, a game where he saw 42 percent of the defensive snaps. He's a depth guy for now, but with the defense so banged up heading into an important divisional game, any healthy body that can provide capable play will go a long way.

Won't play Monday
Settle (calf) is out Monday against the Titans, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Settle logged a limited practice Saturday, but the five-year-pro still isn't ready to take the field. With Ed Oliver (ankle) also ruled out, the middle of the Bills' defensive line will be thinner than you would hope for against Derrick Henry. Settle will work to be ready for Week 3 against the Dolphins.
Sep 17, 2022
Listed as doubtful for Week 2
Settle (calf) is doubtful for Monday's contest against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Settle didn't practice Thursday or Friday but returned in a limited fashion Saturday. However, he's still unlikely to suit up Monday. With Ed Oliver (ankle) already ruled out, the Bills may be extremely thin at defensive tackle for their matchup with Derrick Henry.
Sep 14, 2022
Sits out Wednesday's session
Settle (undisclosed) did not practice Wednesday, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Whatever is ailing Settle, he'll have an extra day to get better since the Bills don't square off against the Titans until Monday. The free-agent signee played 42 percent of the defensive snaps in the team's opener, posting one tackle.

Returns to practice Thursday
Settle practiced again Thursday after missing the previous two days with a groin injury, Nick Wojton of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Settle was seen participating in individual sessions during Buffalo's practice Thursday. The defensive tackle saw significant playing time over his first four NFL seasons with Washington, and he could push for a similarly consistent role behind DaQuan Jones and Ed Oliver heading into the regular season.
Aug 3, 2022
Missing practice time
Settle missed practice for the second straight day Tuesday due to a groin injury, Grace Heidinger of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Settle was a sneaky good signing after spending four decent seasons in Washington, though he has a new defense to learn and any missed practice time takes on added importance.

Gets opportunity with Buffalo
Settle signed a two-year contract with Buffalo on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Settle spent the first four seasons of his career in Washington, serving on special teams and as a rotational defensive lineman. His best season came in 2020, when he racked up five sacks and 19 total tackles. Settle should have the chance to contribute in Buffalo, but he doesn't project as a full-time player.
Dec 21, 2021
Won't play Tuesday
Settle (coach's decision) is inactive for Tuesday against the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Settle cleared COVID protocols and was activated from the reserve/COVID list Tuesday, but he will not suit up. With Settle getting the night off, Matt Ioannidis and Akeem Spence should soak up the extra snaps at defensive tackle behind starters, Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen when Washington plays the Eagles on Tuesday.
Dec 21, 2021
Clears COVID protocols
Settle cleared COVID-19 protocols and is expected to be activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list before Tuesday's game against the Eagles, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Settle tested positive for COVID-19 days before Washington's expected contest with Philadelphia on Sunday. With the game now moved to Tuesday, the defensive tackle was able to record two negative COVID-19 tests 24 hours apart which makes him eligible to play against the Eagles. Expect Settle to play and see an important depth role Tuesday.
Dec 14, 2021
Moves to COVID list
Settle (undisclosed) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Settle will now be unavailable until he clears the league's health and safety protocols. He played a season-high 27 defensive snaps during Sunday's loss to Dallas and had three total tackles.
Aug 1, 2021
Activated by Washington
Settle (undisclosed) was activated by Washington on Thursday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Settle began camp on the non-football illness list due to an unspecified illness, but he'll return following a brief absence. The 24-year-old recorded 19 tackles (12 solo), including five sacks, while appearing in all 16 games last year.
Jul 27, 2021
Placed on NFI list
Settle was placed on non-football illness list Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Settle will miss the start of training camp due to an undisclosed illness. The 24-year-old defensive tackle is coming off the best season of his career, playing behind Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne.
Jan 18, 2021
Enjoys career-best season
Settle finished 2020 with career highs for tackles (19), sacks (five) and defensive snaps (347), starting one of his 16 games.
ANALYSIS
The 2018 fifth-round pick doesn't get much recognition, serving as backup defensive tackle on a line that's loaded with first-round talent. Regardless, Settle was an important part of Washington's run defense, earning a career-best PFF grade (69.3, 43rd among DTs) to back up the career highs for sacks and tackles. He should be back in a similar role in 2021, the fourth and final season of his rookie contract.
Dec 31, 2020
Full-go in practice Thursday
Settle (hamstring) was a full practice participant Thursday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2018 fifth-round draft choice has been a constant presence for Washington over his three pro campaigns, missing just one of a possible 47 regular-season contests. Settle has emerged as a pass-rusher this season, garnering five sacks and seven QB hits over a workload of 22.4 defensive snaps per game (with one start). Given his full workload Thursday, Settle's chances of suiting up Sunday night against the Eagles are looking strong.

Leaves with injury
Settle was forced out of Sunday's game versus the Bills with a hamstring injury.
ANALYSIS
Settle plays in a reserve role, but his depth is important considering the Redskins only have four healthy defensive linemen when he's on the mend. If the second-year pro is unable to return to the contest, he'll benefit from Week 10's bye and look to return Week 11 against the Jets.
Sep 9, 2019
Likely to start Week 2
Settle is expected to start at defensive end in place of Jonathan Allen (knee) for Week 2's game versus the Cowboys, Grant Paulsen of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Redskins are planning to play without Allen, and Settle is the next man up. Settle was rarely deployed in his rookie campaign last year, but he played 36 snaps in Week 1's game versus the Eagles and made one tackle. His first career start will be a tough one against a fierce Cowboys' offensive line which didn't allow Dak Prescott to be sacked in the season opener against the Giants.
Sep 4, 2019
Clear of knee injury
Settle (knee) isn't listed on Wednesday's injury report, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Settle sustained the injury during the second preseason game versus the Bengals, but he has no practice restrictions on the first official injury report of the season. The 22-year-old should work in a reserve role at nose tackle behind Daron Payne.
Aug 15, 2019
Exits with knee injury
Settle left Thursday's preseason contest against the Bengals with a knee injury, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Settle was unable to record a statistic before being forced out of the game. It's unclear how serious the injury is. When healthy, the 22-year-old is expected to provide key depth on Washington's defensive front. While Settle's sidelined, Austin Maloata seems to be the frontrunner for extra reps at nose tackle.
