Not returning in Week 13
Atwell (hamstring) wasn't activated off IR ahead of Sunday's matchup versus Carolina, Mike Masala of Rams Wire reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday and logged three full practices this week. Head coach Sean McVay expressed upon Atwell's return to practice that he expected the wideout to be activated for Sunday's contest against the Panthers, but that didn't end up happening by Saturday's deadline. Atwell will now look to make his return to game action next Sunday against Arizona.

Practices in full again
Atwell (hamstring), who officially remains on IR, was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell has logged two straight full practices since having his 21-day window opened Wednesday. The expectation is that Los Angeles will activate Atwell to the 53-man roster from IR in time for him to suit up for Sunday's road matchup against Carolina.

Full practice Wednesday
Atwell (hamstring) practiced fully Wednesday, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
The Rams placed Atwell on injured reserve after Week 7, and after missing the requisite four games and getting designated for return Wednesday, he didn't have any restrictions in his first practice since then. He thus appears poised to play Sunday at Carolina, but he'll need to be activated from IR by Saturday afternoon in order to have a chance to do so.

Practice window opens
The Rams have designated Atwell (hamstring) for return from injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Atwell now kicks off his 21-day practice window, though head coach Sean McVay has already stated that the 2021 second-round pick is expected to retake the field in time for Sunday's road matchup against the Panthers. In order to play Week 13, however, Los Angeles will first have to add Atwell to the 53-man roster. Once back in action, Atwell will resume contributing as a complementary deep threat behind starting wideouts Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and Jordan Whittington.
Nov 24, 2025
Expected to play Week 13
Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that Atwell (hamstring) will have his 21-day practice window opened Wednesday and is expected to be available for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell will return from IR when first eligible, as McVay had previously hinted. He hasn't played since Week 7 while recovering from a hamstring issue. Even if Atwell plays on something of a snap count in his first return to action, he figures to be capable of handling his usual ancillary role behind Puka Nacua and Davante Adams in Los Angeles' wide receiver corps.
Nov 21, 2025
May return next week
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Friday that Atwell (hamstring) may return for Week 13 against the Panthers (Sunday, Nov. 30), Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
That's when Atwell is first eligible to return from injured reserve. Once available, he'll likely occupy a part-time role in an offense where Puka Nacua and Davante Adams reliably account for nearly all of the WR targets.
Oct 27, 2025
Sent to IR
The Rams placed Atwell (hamstring) on injured reserve Monday.
ANALYSIS
Atwell missed Week 6 due to a hamstring injury and handled just 10 offensive snaps while playing through the issue Week 7. Now coming off Los Angeles' bye, it appears he suffered a setback of some sort. The undersized deep threat will now be forced to miss at least the next four games while on IR, making his first opportunity to retake the field Sunday, Nov. 30 versus the Panthers in Week 13. On a positive note for the Rams, Puka Nacua (ankle) could be back in action Week 9.
Oct 20, 2025
Gets little playing time in win
Atwell recorded ten snaps on offense during Sunday's 35-7 victory against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
For the third time this season, Atwell failed to record a catch. This could've been a product of precaution after injuring his hamstring last week as he missed the previous game, but with Puka Nacua (ankle) out for the contest, fantasy managers likely expected more production from the speedy wideout. Atwell sports a 4-164-1 receiving line through seven games, and after the Rams' bye in Week 8, he'll look to bounce back against the Saints in Week 9.
Oct 17, 2025
Could play more in Nacua's absence
Atwell could see additional opportunities Sunday against the Jaguars, as coach Sean McVay said Friday that Puka Nacua (ankle) will be out, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell has been used sparingly, with Nacua and Davante Adams getting most of the attention from Matthew Stafford. In Nacua's absence, Atwell is set to join Adams and Jordan Whittington in three-receiver sets. Atwell doesn't need many opportunities to make an impact, as the deep threat is averaging 41.0 yards per catch in 2025, albeit on only four receptions.
Oct 16, 2025
Gets back to full Thursday
Atwell (hamstring) practiced in full Thursday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
After pulling his hamstring at practice last Thursday, Atwell eventually was inactive for this past Sunday's win at Baltimore. On Monday, coach Sean McVay expressed optimism that Atwell would be able to return to action Week 7, per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com. Atwell has since followed up Wednesday's limited session with all activity one day later, paving the way for him to suit up Sunday against the Jaguars in London. With Puka Nacua's (ankle) status up in the air, Atwell may take on a larger role in the Rams' passing game this weekend alongside Davante Adams and Jordan Whittington.
Oct 15, 2025
Limited in practice
Rams coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that Atwell (hamstring) will be limited at practice, Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell appears to be trending in the right direction to return from his one-game absence and play Sunday versus Jacksonville, as McVay already expressed optimism about the wideout's status during Monday's press conference. If Atwell can upgrade to full practice reps Thursday and/or Friday, he'll have a fair chance to avoid an injury designation entirely for Week 7.
Oct 13, 2025
Optimism for Week 7
Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that Atwell (hamstring) is expected to return to action Week 7 against the Jaguars, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell missed Sunday's 17-3 win over Baltimore due to a hamstring issue, but in the two games prior he totaled a 3-160-1 receiving line on six targets. With star wideout Puka Nacua (ankle) considered day-to-day and uncertain to face Jacksonville, it would be a notable boost for Matthew Stafford and Los Angeles' passing offense to get a field-stretcher as capable as Atwell back in the lineup.
Oct 12, 2025
Sidelined by hamstring injury
Atwell (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game at Baltimore, Nate Atkins of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell pulled his hamstring during practice Thursday and was added to the injury report the same day. He was able to turn in a limited session Friday, but that apparently isn't enough for him to suit up in Week 6. Jordan Whittington could benefit from a few additional targets against the Ravens, but the Rams' passing offense will continue to be highly concentrated between Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.
Oct 10, 2025
Questionable for Sunday
Atwell (hamstring) will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Baltimore, Nate Atkins of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Rams added Atwell to their injury report Thursday, marking him as a limited participant. An absence Sunday in Baltimore would leave more playing time for WR Jordan Whittington.
Oct 9, 2025
Dealing with hamstring issue
Atwell was limited at Thursday's practice due to a hamstring injury, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell is making a midweek addition to the Rams' practice report, which typically implies an injury that occurred during drills but also could be an issue that went unreported until now. In any case, his status will be one to monitor as the week continues to get a sense of his odds to play Sunday in Baltimore, especially after he combined for 3-160-1 on six targets over the last two games.
Oct 3, 2025
Big gains on both catches
Atwell brought in two of four targets for 72 yards in the Rams' 26-23 overtime loss to the 49ers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Atwell finished third in receiving yards despite recording just a pair of receptions, including a 38-yard grab in Los Angeles' overtime drive. He's suddenly come to life in the passing game over the past five days after going into Week 4 with just one catch for four yards, as he's posted a 3-160-1 line on six targets in the last pair of contests. Despite the recent surge, Atwell remains a hit-or-miss deep threat in an offense that runs almost exclusively through Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and Kyren Williams.
Sep 29, 2025
Breaks through with 88-yard TD
Atwell secured one of two targets for 88 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 27-20 victory against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Despite seeing his least amount of usage on the season, Atwell made his single catch count, finding a seam and going untouched for an 88-yard go-ahead touchdown that turned out to be the game-winner. The score stands as a prime example of the speed and field-stretching threat that Atwell contains, but whether this score will lead to more playing time remains to be seen. Jordan Whittington, Atwell's primary competition for snaps on offense, was on the field as much as starters Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, but only had one small catch on the day. Atwell's next chance to produce is a divisional matchup against the 49ers in Week 5.
Sep 22, 2025
One target in defeat
Atwell failed to secure his lone target during Sunday's 33-26 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Jordan Whittington has clearly pushed ahead of Atwell at this point on the depth chart, and for the second straight week, Atwell's single target fell unsecured. The former second-round pick was on the field for just 25 of the Rams' 66 snaps on offense, falling in line with his typical usage this season, and a breakout seems less and less likely as Puka Nacua and Davante Adams continue to command the lion's share of Matthew Stafford's attention. The Rams take on the surprisingly hot Indianapolis Colts in Week 4.
Sep 17, 2025
Blanked in Week 2
Atwell was unable to secure his lone target in Sunday's 33-19 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Atwell was targeted just once for the second straight week, as the veteran remains mostly an afterthought in the Rams passing attack. The 25-year-old wideout played just 26 of the Rams' 61 offensive snaps, behind fellow wide receivers Davante Adams (49), Puka Nacua (42) and Jordan Whittington (39). It appears Whittington has surpassed Atwell on the depth chart, so the latter will likely face an uphill battle for meaningful usage. Barring injuries, Atwell should be ignored for fantasy purposes going forward. Next up for the Rams is a matchup against the Eagles.
Sep 8, 2025
Makes just one catch
Atwell secured his only target for four yards during Sunday's 14-9 victory against the Texans.
ANALYSIS
The speedster didn't get many opportunities to showcase why the Rams brought him back on a one-year, $10 million contract this season, only taking the field for 25 of the Rams' 60 snaps on offense. More worrying for Atwell's future usage is Jordan Whittington taking 30 snaps on offense and having a role on special teams. In 2024, when Atwell's usage was significantly reduced after Week 7, he recorded just a 14-193-0 line between Weeks 8 and 17. If Atwell drops to fourth on the depth chart, lines like this week would likely become the norm, something to monitor as the Rams travel to face the Titans in Week 2.
Jul 28, 2025
Competing with Whittington to start
Atwell and Jordan Whittington are competing for the No. 3 WR job, Cameron DaSilva of The Rams Wire reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a role that could entail large snap counts in Sean McVay's three-wide-heavy offense, although target volume would be tougher to come by unless Puka Nacua or Davante Adams were to miss time. Atwell's one-year, $10 million contract might be taken as a sign that he's the favorite for the No. 3 role, but Whittington reportedly is making a real push and impressing at training camp for the second straight summer. They're drastically different players, with Atwell being one of the smallest players in the league -- listed at 5-foot-9, 165 pounds --while Whittington (6-1, 202) is noted for his physicality. Atwell had some brief stretches of production early in the 2023 and 2024 campaigns when other Rams WRs were injured, but he never topped 562 receiving yards or three TDs in a single season over the course of his rookie contract.
Apr 2, 2025
Expected to see increased snaps
Rams coach Sean McVay indicated that Atwell is going to be on the field "a lot more" this upcoming season after re-signing with Los Angeles on a one-year, $10 million contract in March, Stu Jackson of the team's official website reports.
ANALYSIS
"I haven't done a good enough job of utilizing him," McVay said. "When you look at the times when he's been able to play, whether that be because some people were out or not, he has produced and he's delivered, and we're looking forward to seeing more of that ascension. He's going to be on the field a lot more, particularly in a lot of those three-receiver sets." With the ouster of Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson's exit in free agency coupled with the signing of Davante Adams, the Rams are expected to field a three-wide set of Puka Nacua, Adams and Atwell in 2025. As McVay noted, Atwell was particularly impressive on a per-snap basis last season, posting a strong 2.24 yards-per-route-run number. He'll be worth following this summer ahead of fantasy drafts as a potential late-round option.
Mar 6, 2025
Back with L. A. on one-year deal
Atwell and the Rams agreed to terms Thursday on a one-year, $10 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell, a 2021 second-round pick, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but he'll instead return to Los Angeles on a fully guaranteed one-year, $10 million contract. Coming off a 2024 campaign in which he compiled a career-best 42-562-0 receiving line across 17 regular-season contests, the timing and guarantees of Atwell's deal signal that the Rams view him as a valued contributor on offense, especially in the context of Cooper Kupp's expected departure this offseason. With Demarcus Robinson still a pending unrestricted free agent, returning quarterback Matthew Stafford's top wideouts next season could feature a lineup of Puka Nacua, Atwell and Jordan Whittington.
Jan 20, 2025
Only two snaps in defeat
Atwell secured his only target for 18 yards during Sunday's 28-22 NFC divisional-round loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
The two snaps on offense actually doubled his number from the wild-card round, and Atwell's 18-yard catch in the fourth quarter led to a Colby Parkinson touchdown. Despite a career-high 42 receptions and 562 receiving yards, Atwell failed to record a touchdown and saw his role reduced significantly once Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp returned to the lineup from injury. Atwell, along with teammate Demarcus Robinson, are unrestricted free agents heading into the offseason, and the Rams will have a decision to make on bringing one or both of them back or relying on Nacua, Kupp and rookie Jordan Whittington to anchor their wide receiver room in 2025.
Jan 6, 2025
Leads team in targets
Atwell secured five of eight targets for 37 yards during Sunday's 30-25 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
The impending unrestricted free agent's role on offense picked up considerably with Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp earning the day off, but Atwell wasn't able to do much with his sudden bevy of targets. Taking out a 22-yard catch in the first quarter, Atwell's other four catches combined for just 15 yards, while Jordan Whittington and Demarcus Robinson combined for 158 yards on their six catches. During the 2024 regular season Atwell recorded 42 catches for 562 yards, both career highs, but failed to record a touchdown for the first time since his rookie campaign. Heading into a Wild Card Weekend showdown with the Vikings, Atwell is likely to revert to his minimal role on offense.
Dec 29, 2024
Blanked as role evaporates
Atwell played nine snaps on offense and failed to record a target during Saturday's 13-9 victory against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
For the first time since Week 1, Atwell didn't see a single pass aimed his way, the culmination of a weeks-long trend downward for the speedster in both snap counts and production. Rookie Jordan Whittington saw the same number of snaps on offense and managed a single catch for six yards, and barring the starters earning some rest if the Rams secure a playoff spot prior to their Week 18 matchup against the Seahawks, Atwell's role on offense seems firmly cemented as minimal moving forward.
Dec 23, 2024
Makes one catch in limited role
Atwell secured one of two targets for 12 yards during Sunday's 19-9 win against the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Only three wideouts for the Rams recorded catches against the Jets, with Puka Nacua (8-56-0) and Cooper Kupp (3-24-0) mostly subdued by the potent Jets' secondary. Atwell only saw the field for 11 snaps on offense, yet saw two targets in that span, double that of Demarcus Robinson. Without consistent time on the field, however, Atwell's role will continue to be suppressed, making him difficult to place in fantasy lineups with a matchup against the Cardinals on deck in Week 17.
Dec 13, 2024
Makes just one catch
Atwell secured one of two targets for six yards during Thursday's 12-6 victory against the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
With Demarcus Robinson (shoulder) active, Atwell saw his typical playing time as the fourth option at wide receiver for the Rams. Despite this, he tied his second worst performance of the season with his 1-6-0 receiving line, which he also recorded in Week 10 against the Dolphins. Another tough pass defense is on deck for Week 16 as the Rams travel to play the Jets, making the prospects for a breakout game for Atwell particularly bleak.
Dec 9, 2024
Makes three grabs in victory
Atwell secured all three of his targets for 45 yards during Sunday's 44-42 victory against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Demarcus Robinson (shoulder) briefly left the contest with an AC joint sprain, which was part of the reason Atwell saw his highest number of snaps on offense since Week 7 against the Raiders. While Puka Nacua (12-162-1) still commanded the most attention from Matthew Stafford, Atwell was the clear third option out of the stable of Rams' pass catchers; aside from eight targets to Cooper Kupp and two to Kyren Williams, no other player earned more than one. If Robinson isn't ready for Thursday's divisional matchup with the 49ers, Atwell will likely slot in as the No. 3 wideout for the Rams, a role that's difficult to trust for fantasy purposes with Nacua and Kupp's dominance of the target share in recent weeks.
Dec 2, 2024
Makes pair of catches
Atwell secured both of his targets for 39 yards and rushed once for no gain during Sunday's 21-14 victory against the Saints.
ANALYSIS
The Louisville product saw similar usage compared to previous weeks, with a slight uptick due in part to Demarcus Robinson (hand) departing in the fourth quarter with an injury. If Robinson were to miss any time, Atwell would likely slot in as the tertiary wideout, with Tyler Johnson, Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith combining for just 16 snaps in the victory. A showdown with the formidable Bills is up next for Atwell in Week 14.
Nov 25, 2024
Nets three catches
Atwell secured all three of his targets for 30 yards during Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Atwell logged the fourth most snaps amongst the Rams' wideout corps on Sunday, with his 17 offensive snaps barely edging out Tyler Johnson's 14, while Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith failed to record a single snap. Atwell's biggest contribution on the stat sheet came in garbage time, however, as he snagged back-to-back catches of 12 and 11 yards, respectively, before Cooper Kupp scored on a 27-yard touchdown grab. The Saints, who have given up 256.6 YPG in the air this season, will be Atwell's next test in Week 13.
Nov 18, 2024
Makes 21-yard grab
Atwell secured one of two targets for 21 yards during Sunday's 28-22 win against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
For the fourth consecutive week, the speedster only mustered a single catch. More troubling for Atwell's prospects is his declining usage, as he only took the field for seven snaps on Sunday. Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson have dominated the touches at wideout for the Rams in recent weeks, and Atwell seems unlikely to expand his role in a Week 12 tilt against the Eagles.
Nov 12, 2024
Another one catch performance
Atwell caught his only target for six yards during Sunday's 23-15 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
As expected after last week's splits, Atwell served as a backup option to starters Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua and Demarcus Robinson. The speedy veteran did outsnap Tyler Johnson and Jordan Whittington, but the former ended up with the most stats out of the trio of backups, catching three of four targets for 25 yards on his ten snaps. Atwell, who only managed 13 snaps of his own, looks unlikely to break out of his rotational role with the Patriots on deck in Week 11.
Nov 4, 2024
Musters just one catch
Atwell caught one of three targets for 16 yards during Sunday's 26-20 overtime win against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Even with Puka Nacua (knee) being ejected at the end of the first half, Atwell managed just 26 snaps on offense and took a back seat to Demarcus Robinson and Tyler Johnson as the secondary target behind Cooper Kupp. Taking out Weeks 3-8, where Atwell produced a solid 20-284-0 line over four games, Atwell has just five catches for 82 yards in the remaining four games. Atwell's role is likely to stay reduced with Kupp, Nacua and Robinson at the front of the Rams' passing game in a Week 10 contest against the Dolphins.
Oct 25, 2024
One catch in Week 8 win
Atwell secured one of two targets for 18 yards in the Rams' 30-20 win over the Vikings on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
With Puka Nacua (knee) and Cooper Kupp (ankle) both returning from multi-game absences Thursday, Atwell predictably saw his opportunities narrow considerably. The fourth-year speedster had generated a 20-284 line on 30 targets over the previous four games, but he figures to continue in a hard-to-trust reserve role when the Rams face off with the Seahawks on the road in a Week 9 divisional battle on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Oct 20, 2024
Leads team with nine targets
Atwell had six receptions off of nine targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 20-15 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Atwell continued to lead a banged up Rams' receiving unit, posting another useful PPR line in the team's second win of the year. The 2021 second-round pick might see his production take a hit if Cooper Kupp (ankle) returns as expected for Thursday's upcoming matchup against the Vikings, as reported by Adam Grosbard of the OC Register. In that event, Atwell should still see a handful of targets against Minnesota in Week 8, but his value may be limited to deeper formats.
Oct 7, 2024
Commands 10 targets
Atwell recorded six receptions on 10 targets for 58 yards in Sunday's 24-19 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Atwell saw a season-high 10 targets, though he failed to showcase the big-play ability he flashed in the Rams' last two games. He managed a lengthy catch that went for 24 yards midway through the first quarter but was otherwise limited to work in short areas of the field. While Atwell has cemented a role in the offense with both Cooper Kupp (ankle) and Puka Nacua (knee) sidelined, Kupp may be able to return as the team comes out of a Week 6 bye for a matchup with the Raiders in Week 7. Even if Atwell remains on the field, his opportunity would likely take a significant blow with Kupp back in action.
Sep 29, 2024
Leads air attack again Sunday
Atwell brought in four of six targets for 82 yards in the Rams' 24-18 loss to the Bears on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Atwell finished second in receptions while leading the way in receiving yards for the Rams, an encouraging encore to his 4-93-0 line on five targets against the 49ers in Week 3. The ongoing absences of Cooper Kupp (ankle) and Puka Nacua (IR, knee) are fueling Atwell's increase in opportunity, and there's a chance Kupp isn't yet back in action for next Sunday's home matchup against the Packers.
Sep 22, 2024
Leading receiver in Sunday's win
Atwell led the Rams in receptions (four) and yardage (93) off of five targets in Sunday's 27-24 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Atwell also tied for the lead in targets for the Rams sans Puka Nacua (knee) and Cooper Kupp (ankle) in Sunday's unlikely win. The projected No. 3 wideout has excelled to the tune of 10/185/0 receiving line through three weeks. He still remains a fringe or FLEX option in standard formats as Los Angeles' offense continues to develop without some key names heading into a Week 4 matchup against the Bears.
Sep 16, 2024
Nabs three receptions Sunday
Atwell had three receptions off of four targets for 48 yards in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Atwell bounced back from a no-catch performance in Week 1, finishing as the Rams' second-leading receiver following Cooper Kupp's (ankle) early departure. With the team already down Puka Nacua (knee), Atwell could find himself in an increased role for Sunday's upcoming tilt against the 49ers.
Sep 9, 2024
Invisible in defeat
Atwell played six snaps and didn't record a target during Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Despite being held out through the entire preseason, Atwell barely took the field on Sunday, even after Puka Nacua (knee) left the game. Tyler Johnson (5-79-0) took over as the tertiary wideout and was on the field for 51 snaps, which signals that he'll likely step in as the No. 3 wide receiver behind Cooper Kupp and Demarcus Robinson if Nacua misses time. Atwell's role seems set as a depth option for head coach Sean McVay and an increased workload seems unlikely against the Cardinals in Week 2.
Jul 29, 2024
Getting chance at No. 3 job
Atwell is competing with Demarcus Robinson for the No. 3 WR role but may ultimately fall further down the depth chart, Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell lost said role to Robinson down the stretch last season, despite starting the year strong while Cooper Kupp was sidelined by a hamstring injury. Atwell had 246 receiving yards Weeks 1-3, and then just 237 yards over 13 subsequent regular-season appearances (though he did score a 38-yard TD on his lone target in a playoff loss to Detroit). The 2021 second-round pick now seems likely to land in a depth role for the final year of his rookie contract, with some risk of falling behind not only Robinson but also sixth-round pick Jordan Whittington.

Getting shot at No.
Jan 15, 2024
Falls out of starting role
Atwell finished the 2023 regular season with 39 receptions for 483 yards and three touchdowns and five rushes for 31 yards.
ANALYSIS
2023 was supposed to be the next step up for the big play threat, and in his first four games he looked like he was on that path as he put up an impressive 22-270-1 line. Things went downhill from there, however, as Atwell put together just 11 catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns over his next seven games before losing his starting role to Demarcus Robinson. In the Rams' playoff loss to the Lions, Atwell burned past Kindle Vildor for a 38-yard touchdown, but didn't get another touch the rest of the way, similar to the final six games of the regular season with just 40 snaps on offense before being used as a starter in the season finale with Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp and Robinson all getting rest. Atwell has one year remaining on his rookie contract, but with Nacua and Kupp now entrenched as the top two targets for Matthew Stafford, it'll be difficult for the Louisville product to carve out a role beyond the third or fourth option at wide receiver.
Jan 8, 2024
Miserable day as a starter
Atwell caught two of four targets for seven yards and rushed once for minus-four yards during Sunday's 21-20 victory against San Francisco. He also recorded a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
With Cooper Kupp (coach's decision) out and Puka Nacua and Demarcus Robinson's time on the field capped to keep them healthy for the playoffs, Atwell took the field for 64 of the Rams' 67 snaps on offense, his highest snap share since Week 8 against the Cowboys. Despite the increased role, Atwell only managed a pair of short gains on his two catches, and another pass attempt from Carson Wentz went straight through Atwell's hands and was intercepted by 49ers safety Tayler Hawkins. While a 39-483-3 receiving line over 16 games this season is an improvement over the Louisville product's rookie campaign, it still has to be considered a disappointing season given the expectation of a much bigger role for Atwell. The rise of Nacua and Robinson has relegated the speedy wideout to a backup role entering the playoffs.
Dec 20, 2023
Clear for Thursday Night Football
Atwell (concussion) doesn't have a designation for Thursday's game against the Saints, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
After Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday that Atwell cleared the concussion protocol, the wide receiver then was listed as a full participant on all three of the Ram's Week 16 injury reports, including walkthroughs Tuesday and Wednesday. Atwell thus will work behind starting wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua on Thursday, which hasn't afforded the third-year pro too much work when both are available. That's been the case since Week 5, resulting in a cumulative 15-206-2 line on 28 targets over the last nine contests.
Dec 19, 2023
Listed as full on practice estimate
Atwell (concussion) was a full participant at Tuesday's walkthrough, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell was listed the same way on Monday's practice estimate, but the Rams actually logged some on-field work one day later. There's an expectation from Sean McVay that Atwell will return from a one-game absence Thursday at New Orleans after making his way through the concussion protocol as of Monday, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Nevertheless, Atwell has surpassed 30 receiving yards just twice over his last 10 appearances en route to a cumulative 20-230-2 line on 37 targets and two carries for eight yards during that stretch.
Dec 18, 2023
Expected to play Thursday
Coach Sean McVay said Monday that Atwell (concussion) is expected to play Thursday versus the Saints, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell wasn't able to suit up for Sunday's win over the Commanders while working his way through the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, but it appears that he's trending in the right direction for Week 16. Still, he will need to officially gain full medical clearance before returning to action. In his last four appearances, Atwell has failed to surpass three targets, so if he does retake the field it may only be in a depth capacity behind Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua.
Dec 17, 2023
Inactive as expected Sunday
Atwell (concussion) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Early Sunday reports indicated Atwell was trending toward not playing versus Washington, and his absence is now official. With the third-year pro apparently not having gained clearance from an independent neurologist, veteran Demarcus Robinson, who produced a 3-46-1 line on 10 targets in the Week 14 overtime loss to the Ravens, is slated to work as the No. 3 receiver for the Rams behind the starting duo of Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua.
Dec 17, 2023
Unlikely to play
Atwell (concussion), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Commanders, is unlikely to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell was progressing through the concussion protocol during the week but it sounds unlikely that he'll be able to play. However, we won't know officially until inactives are announced 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:05 ET kickoff.
Dec 15, 2023
Questionable for Week 15
Atwell (concussion) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Greg Beacham of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
As of Thursday, Atwell had managed just one limited practice this week due to the concussion that he suffered this past Sunday at Baltimore. Coach Sean McVay told Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic on Friday that Atwell is progressing through the protocol for head injuries, but his listing ahead of Week 15 action implies the wide receiver still requires clearance from an independent neurologist.
Dec 14, 2023
Gets back to limited Thursday
Atwell (concussion) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
After entering the protocol for head injuries earlier this week, Atwell followed up an absence from Wednesday's jog-through with some activity one day later, indicating that he's making progress with his concussion. Still, he may have too many phases to pass through in order to make himself available Sunday against the Commanders. The Rams' final Week 15 practice report Friday could include a ruling on Atwell's upcoming availability.
Dec 13, 2023
Listed as DNP on practice estimate
Atwell (concussion) was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's estimated injury report, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell entered the concussion protocol in the wake of this past Sunday's loss at Baltimore, and his inability to take part in Wednesday's jog-through may put him on the outside looking in to passing all five phases in order to play Sunday against the Commanders. Nonetheless, he'll have two more chances this week to put himself on a potential path to active status for Week 15.
Dec 11, 2023
In concussion protocol
Coach Sean McVay confirmed Monday that Atwell is in the NFL's concussion protocol, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell was limited to just nine snaps before his departure from Sunday's 37-31 overtime loss to the Ravens. If the wideout is unable to gain clearance to play this weekend against the Commanders, Demarcus Robinson would be in line to see added snaps behind the team's top two pass-catchers, Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp.
Dec 10, 2023
Exits Sunday's game
Atwell is being evaluated for a concussion and is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his departure from the contest in the second quarter, Atwell drew one target and didn't record a catch. If Atwell is shut down for the day, Demarcus Robinson will be the next man up to play alongside Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua in three-receiver sets.
Dec 4, 2023
Manages just one catch
Atwell secured one of two targets for nine yards during Sunday's 36-19 victory against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight week, Atwell took the field for just over a third of the Rams' snaps on offense, the fourth most among the Rams' wideouts behind Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua and Demarcus Robinson. Atwell's nine receiving yards ties his lowest output of the season, and notably, Robinson had a big day with four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown, which may be more evidence that the speedster's role on offense truly is shrinking to more of a backup role alongside Ben Skowronek and Austin Trammell. A stingy Ravens pass defense lies next in Week 14, which will make a rebound performance for Atwell a tall order.
Nov 27, 2023
Leads team in receiving yards
Atwell secured all three targets for 76 yards during Sunday's 37-14 victory against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Atwell's role actually shrunk considerably compared to his typical usage, as he only took the field for around a third of the contest; less than starters Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua and notably Demarcus Robinson, as well. Despite the stark drop in playing time, Atwell was actually the most productive of the Rams' wideouts, with a game-long 42-yard catch on the Rams' first drive, and his 76 receiving yards were more than Kupp (3-18-0), Nacua (4-27-0) and Robinson (2-13-0) combined, The reduced snap count may just be a blip on the radar given Atwell's quality play, but a repeat performance may be a tall task in Week 12 against a Browns defense allowing a league-low 142 passing yards per game.
Nov 19, 2023
Down game in team victory
Atwell caught just one of his three targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 17-16 win over Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Cooper Kupp (ankle) went down to injury in the first half and did not return to Sunday's contest. Puka Nacua dusted off his Kupp mask from earlier this year and went to work in the star's absence (5-70-1), but Atwell actually saw his targets decrease from the seven he received last week while Kupp was playing. The Rams will likely provide an update on the latter's status early in Week 12 after the medical staff examines his ankle. If Kupp is sidelined for next Sunday's matchup against Arizona, then Atwell will elevate into the starting lineup and receive a bump in value for as long as that scenario sticks.
Nov 6, 2023
Ties for team lead in targets
Atwell secured four of seven targets for 13 yards during Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
The speedster saw as many targets in this contest as he had in his last three games combined, but with Brett Rypien under center instead of Matthew Stafford (thumb), Atwell posted his lowest yardage total since Week 5. The Rams have a bye week next on the docket, which will give Stafford time to heal his sprained thumb. If Rypien is still starting for the Rams in Week 11 against the Seahawks, it'll be hard for fantasy managers to trust any Rams pass catcher, let alone Atwell, who hasn't produced more than 31 receiving yards in a game since all the way back in Week 3 against the Bengals.
Oct 30, 2023
29 total yards in defeat
Atwell secured two of four targets for 21 yards and rushed twice for eight yards during Sunday's 43-20 loss to the Cowboys. He also threw a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
Atwell's biggest contribution in the passing game was a leaping 20-yard catch on third down late in the second quarter, which extended a drive that led to a Royce Freeman touchdown. The wideout later threw a pass to Matthew Stafford on a successful two-point conversion attempt early in the third quarter, which would prove to be Stafford's last action of the game. Backup Brett Rypien would only target Atwell once the rest of the contest, and the biggest contribution for the speedster from that point on was an eight-yard rush. Rypien doesn't have the arm to stretch the field like Stafford does, and any missed time for the veteran signal-caller would further depress Atwell's already downward trending stock.
Oct 23, 2023
Records TD on only catch
Atwell caught one of two targets for 31 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
The big touchdown catch by Atwell may or may not have been an errant pass directed to Cooper Kupp late in the first half, but the speedster happened to be in the right place at the right time and was able to walk into the end zone untouched after snagging the pass at the 1-yard line in front of a double-covered Kupp. For the third straight game, Puka Nacua and Kupp dominated Matthew Stafford's attention with a total of 19 targets to the rest of the team's 10, and perhaps more tellingly, Atwell's usage dipped to a season-low 71 percent of snaps on offense. With Atwell now looking like he's reverted to his usage patterns of 2022, he'll be hard to trust in lineups with a stout Cowboys pass defense up next in Week 8.
Oct 15, 2023
Makes only catch count
Atwell secured his only target for 30 yards during Sunday's 26-9 victory against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Atwell's only action of the contest came on a third-quarter pass from Matthew Stafford, and the speedy wideout managed to escape a tackle after the catch and extended the play for an additional 10-yard gain. The third-year receiver has shown a knack for making explosive plays when on the field, but Cooper Kupp's return has put a serious dent in Atwell's opportunities to produce; he's fallen from an average of nearly nine targets per game in Weeks 1-4 to just three in Weeks 5-6. Atwell will try to reverse the downward trajectory he's been on since his hot start to the year against the Steelers in Week 7.
Oct 8, 2023
Touchdown salvages rough outing
Atwell secured two of five targets for nine yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 23-14 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Atwell turned out to be the player seemingly most affected by the return of Cooper Kupp, as his number of targets fell substantially from his previous four games. In fact, Atwell's three-yard touchdown grab in the first quarter was his only target of the game until the Rams' first drive of the fourth quarter. Matthew Stafford just missed connecting with the third-year wideout on a deep shot that would've been a 63-yard score, but with Kupp and rookie Puka Nacua commanding the vast majority of Stafford's attention in the passing game, Atwell may need to connect on those big plays to continue to be fantasy relevant. He'll look to utilize his field-stretching speed against a vulnerable Cardinals defense in Week 6.
Oct 1, 2023
Season-low 24 yards in win
Atwell secured five of nine targets for 24 yards during Sunday's 29-23 overtime victory against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Atwell's yardage totals have dropped every week since his explosive 6-119-0 performance in Week 1, a troubling trend with another target hog in Cooper Kupp (hamstring) likely to return soon. The third-year wideout still enjoyed a healthy target share, third on the team behind rookie breakout Puka Nacua and Tyler Higbee, and through four weeks has already matched his target total from 2022 with 35. The speedster will look to bounce back against an Eagles defense that has shown to be susceptible to the pass in Week 5.
Sep 26, 2023
Scores first TD of season
Atwell caught four of nine targets for 50 yards and a touchdown during Monday's 19-16 loss to the Bengals. He also rushed once for 22 yards.
ANALYSIS
A late fourth-quarter drive was capped by a one-yard score by the speedster, the only touchdown of the day for a Rams offense that mustered little traction up until their final drive of the contest. Atwell led the team in targets and tacked on a nifty 22-yard rush on the Rams' first drive that led to a field goal. The third-year wideout has posted a healthy 17-246-1 line through three games, and will look to keep his early-season momentum going in a Week 4 contest against the Colts.
Sep 17, 2023
Goes for 83 total yards
Atwell had seven receptions (nine targets) for 77 yards while adding five yards on a rushing attempt in Sunday's 30-23 loss to San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Puka Nacua (15-147-0) stole the show for the Rams in Week 2, but Atwell quietly posted a solid fantasy line following last week's 119-yard performance. He has received 17 targets through two games, and appears to have surpassed Van Jefferson on the depth chart to claim the No. 2 role for the Rams. The 23-year-old also logged his first carry of the season, a role he is accustomed to after seeing nine carries as a backup receiver in 2022. If you missed out on Puka on the waiver wire, Atwell appears to be a decent consolation prize where available.
Sep 10, 2023
Reaches century mark
Atwell had six receptions on eight targets for 119 yards in Sunday's 30-13 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Atwell was elevated into the starting lineup following Cooper Kupp's (hamstring) placement on injured reserve this week. The 2021 second-round pick took full advantage of the opportunity and teamed up with rookie Puka Nacua to tie for the team lead in receiving yards. Veteran Van Jefferson also started (4-24-0) but failed to impress, dropping a potential long gain that hit him in the hands. It looks like Atwell and Nacua will be quarterback Matthew Stafford's preferred targets heading into a Week 2 matchup against San Francisco.
Sep 6, 2023
Will serve as No. 2 wideout Sunday
Atwell will act as the Rams' No. 2 wide receiver with Cooper Kupp (hamstring) downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Atlantic reports.
ANALYSIS
Van Jefferson will take over as the Rams' No. 1 wideout in Kupp's absence, which could potentially extend through the first four weeks of the 2023 campaign if the Rams choose to put Kupp on IR. Atwell saw no action during the preseason, a sign that coach Sean McVay was protecting the speedster for the regular season. Atwell and promising rookie standout Puka Nacua will serve as the secondary options behind the veteran Jefferson.
Aug 3, 2023
Competing for No. 3 role
Atwell and rookie Puka Nacua are currently in a competition for the No. 3 wide receiver role in the Rams' offense, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Although veteran Demarcus Robinson has played well in training camp and may have an outside shot of earning the tertiary spot in the wideout room, Atwell and Nacua are the most likely players to earn the role, but the Rams "ideally" would like Atwell to be their No. 3. Atwell can stretch the field with 4.35 speed but lacks size, and last year the speedster's appearance on the field generally meant a play-action deep shot towards him was incoming. In training camp, Atwell has been placed in a variety of roles in the offense and has worked on his blocking as well, giving him more flexibility than in 2022 and helping increase the odds he will earn a more permanent role in the Rams' offense behind starters Cooper Kupp (hamstring) and Van Jefferson.
Jun 15, 2023
Making impression this spring
Rams coach Sean McVay said Tuesday that Atwell has been "outstanding" and a "real bright spot" in spring practices, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell is getting first-team looks at multiple receiver spots and apparently has been one of Matthew Stafford's favorite targets this spring with fellow WRs Cooper Kupp (ankle), Van Jefferson (undisclosed) and Ben Skowronek (foot) all limited in practice or absent. The 2021 second-round pick has a real shot at a top-three spot on the depth chart given the lack of talent behind Kupp, but it's still an uphill battle toward fantasy relevance and consistent production for one of the smallest players in the league (5-9, 165). Atwell is also getting practice reps on special teams as a returner, competing with RB Kyren Williams and WR Austin Trammell.
Jan 9, 2023
Logs second TD of season
Atwell caught two of three targets for 27 yards and rushed once for 11 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 19-16 overtime loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Atwell's second career touchdown came on a bit of trickery from Sean McVay, with Baker Mayfield faking a handoff to Cam Akers before flicking the ball to Atwell, who was able to navigate his way in for the score to give the Rams a 13-7 lead. Atwell was thrust into an expanded role with the Rams' receiver corps decimated by injury, and in the final eight weeks of the season, he put up a 17-244-1 line with a revolving door of mediocre quarterbacks at the helm that were mostly unable to unlock the true potency of Atwell's game-breaking speed. Atwell will return for the third year of his rookie deal with optimism that he can carve out a role in the offense alongside Cooper Kupp, Allen Robinson, Van Jefferson and Ben Skowronek.
Jan 1, 2023
Minimal production in loss
Atwell secured two of five targets for 10 yards in the Rams' 31-10 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Atwell couldn't parlay his game-breaking speed into any fantasy-relevant numbers on a day when Baker Mayfield netted only 111 passing yards. The second-year wideout does have at least one reception in seven straight games, but he hasn't topped 14 receiving yards since Week 14 going into the regular-season finale against the Seahawks.
Dec 25, 2022
Held to two catches Sunday
Atwell caught both of his targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 51-14 win over Denver.
ANALYSIS
Atwell failed to gain any traction in Baker Mayfield's second start with the Rams, finishing with a mediocre stat line despite the crooked score. The speedy wideout didn't receive a rushing attempt after losing yardage on the ground in his last two outings. Atwell's recent struggles should keep him off the fantasy radar for Sunday's matchup against the Chargers.
Dec 20, 2022
Disappointing two touches Monday
Atwell caught one of four targets for 10 yards and rushed once for minus-four yards during Monday's 24-12 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Despite being on the field for a nearly identical amount of snaps as he was last week, his six total yards of offense had to be a disappointment to fantasy managers after he displayed plenty of chemistry and put up a respectable 5-50-0 line in Baker Mayfield's debut against the Raiders. Atwell's attempt at a jet sweep was snuffed out by Adrian Amos, and a 10-yard reception in the second quarter would be all the offense the speedster would muster on the day. The Rams seem intent on using Atwell more as the season nears an end, but an imposing Denver defense will make relying on him difficult in Week 16.
Dec 9, 2022
Career-high catch total in win
Atwell brought in five of nine targets for 50 yards and rushed twice for minus-5 yards in the Rams' 17-16 win over the Raiders on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Atwell finished second in receptions and receiving yards on the night for the Rams while pacing the team in targets, displaying impressive chemistry in his first game with Baker Mayfield as his quarterback. Atwell's catch total was a career high, and he's clearly carving out a larger role in the offense with a 10-183-1 line over his last four games. Given his rapport with Mayfield, the receiver's game-breaking speed and the team's injury-decimated wideout corps, Atwell's fantasy outlook is exceedingly bright going into a Week 15 Monday night road matchup versus the Packers on Dec. 19.
Dec 4, 2022
Leading receiver in Sunday's loss
Atwell caught two of five targets for 48 yards in Sunday's 27-23 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
The 48 yards led the Rams on the afternoon, as the team's passing game couldn't get much going with John Wolford under center in place of Matthew Stafford (neck). Atwell has seen his role grow with Cooper Kupp (ankle) and Allen Robinson (foot) also on the shelf, but no Rams receiver will be an appealing fantasy option in Week 14, even against the Raiders.
Nov 28, 2022
Two catches in expanded role
Atwell caught both of his targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 26-10 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Despite a relatively pedestrian receiving line for the speedy wideout, the two receptions actually doubled Atwell's total catches on the year. More encouraging for fantasy managers, Atwell was on the field for 28 of the Rams' 54 total snaps on offense, a massive increase over his previous career high of nine snaps in Week 5. With Allen Robinson (foot) out for the season and Cooper Kupp (ankle) likely done for the year as well, Atwell should see plenty of time on the field for the remainder of the 2022 campaign, with Brandon Powell, Jacob Harris and Lance McCutcheon (shoulder) sharing tertiary receiving duty behind starters Van Jefferson and Ben Skowronek.
Nov 21, 2022
Logs first career TD
Atwell caught his only target for 62 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Atwell saw the field for the first time since Week 6 and quickly made an impact, burning down the left sideline past Saints safety Chris Harris for an explosive first-quarter touchdown. Atwell's field-stretching ability and game-breaking speed may force the Rams to give the second-year wideout more time on the field, and with the Rams playing the Chiefs in Week 12, Atwell's big play ability may be more necessary than ever in hopes of keeping up with one of the most dynamic offenses in the league.
Nov 13, 2022
Healthy scratch Sunday
Atwell (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Atwell hasn't suited up since Week 6, as last year's second-round selection has yet to find a consistent role with the team. He'll work to earn a chance to suit up again in Week 11 against the Saints.
Oct 17, 2022
Scant usage Sunday
Atwell rushed once for nine yards in Sunday's 24-10 victory against the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
One game removed from his first career catch, Atwell reverted back to his typical usage, with just two snaps on offense. The speedy second-year wideout made the most of his time on the field, ending the first quarter with a nine-yard rush, but Atwell's limited snap share may be completely erased with the impending return of Van Jefferson (knee) after the Rams return from their bye week.
Oct 10, 2022
First career catch Sunday
Atwell caught one of two targets for 54 yards in Sunday's 22-10 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
A week after being a healthy scratch, Atwell made the most of his nine snaps on offense, getting in front of cornerback Trevon Diggs and snagging an over-the-shoulder dime from Matthew Stafford for 54 yards to help set up a Matt Gay field goal. Atwell wouldn't see another target after the big play, but the speedster proved that he has the field-stretching speed that Los Angeles needs with Van Jefferson (knee) on IR. In Week 6, the Rams take on a Carolina squad that just axed head coach Matt Rhule and defensive coordinator Phil Snow, which could provide Atwell with more big play opportunities before the Rams go on bye in Week 7.
Oct 3, 2022
First absence of season
Atwell (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday's game at San Francisco, Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell was available for the Rams' first three contests of the season, failing to haul in either of his targets on 12 offensive snaps. Now that he's donning street clothes Week 4, the team will turn to Brandon Powell and Lance McCutcheon as the reserve wide receivers behind the top trio of Cooper Kupp, Allen Robinson and Ben Skowronek.
Sep 26, 2022
Targeted once in win
Atwell failed to bring in his only target during Sunday's 20-12 win against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Even with Van Jefferson (knee) out for at least the first two months of the regular season after being put on injured reserve, Atwell has failed to earn much of a role on offense, and was only on the field for three offensive snaps Sunday. Atwell will look to earn his first catch of the season in Week 4 against San Francisco.
Sep 19, 2022
Two snaps in Week 2
Atwell logged two snaps on offense in Sunday's 31-27 victory against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Atwell has seemingly fallen behind Brandon Powell on the depth chart, and the speedy second-year wideout wasn't targeted on either of his two snaps on offense. With Van Jefferson (knee) likely to return to action soon, Atwell has an uphill battle ahead to find playing time barring injuries.
Sep 9, 2022
One target in defeat
Atwell didn't catch his only target in the Rams' 31-10 loss to the Bills on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Atwell and Ben Skowronek were expected to be a committee in replacing the production of injured No. 3 wide receiver Van Jefferson (knee), but Atwell took just seven snaps and dropped his only target from Matthew Stafford. Skowronek worked as the No. 3 receiver with Atwell and Brandon Powell both receiving minimal playing time, and Skowronek was on the field for nearly the entire game on offense and turned six targets into four catches for 25 yards, seemingly relegating Atwell to a clear tier behind Skowronek on the depth chart for now. Atwell will look to get back on track in a Week 2 showdown against the Falcons.
Sep 8, 2022
Could see additional work
Atwell and Ben Skowronek will likely see additional reps during Thursday's game against Buffalo with Van Jefferson (knee) ruled out, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
During the preseason, both Atwell and Skowronek worked in a committee of wideouts while Jefferson sat out, and the duo emerged as the top two options to slot in as the No. 3 wide receiver for the Rams, complete with two different skill sets. Offensive coordinator Liam Coen noted that, "Tutu is a guy that you look at (as) a little guy, maybe just (a downfield guy), but he knows our offense. He can play a few different positions. He just gives us some flexibility that Ben does, as well, but just in a different way." Skowronek and Atwell will likely split time behind Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson on Thursday, which will make it difficult to trust either player for fantasy outside extremely deep leagues.
Aug 14, 2022
Being protected in preseason
Coach Sean McVay told reporters on Sunday that Atwell's absence in Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers was "a credit to what (Atwell has) done, but it's also in response to Van Jefferson's availability," Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
McVay's comments, combined with neither Atwell nor Ben Skowronek seeing the field on Saturday, make it seem like Jefferson may not be ready in time for Week 1. Atwell has also seemingly locked up a spot on the final 53-man roster with his coach's insistence on keeping him out of action, and he and Skowronek could split reps as the No. 3 wide receiver until Jefferson's return.
Aug 14, 2022
Doesn't see field Saturday
Atwell did not play in the Rams' 29-22 preseason win over the Chargers on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Jordan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports that head coach Sean McVay, who'd previously stated he wanted to see Atwell get some snaps in the preseason, said after the game that he opted not to play the speedster Saturday night because he feels the second-year wideout has shown enough in practice already. The 2021 second-round pick never logged a target over eight games in his rookie campaign, but he could have a meaningful role to open the season if Van Jefferson (knee) is unavailable to begin the campaign.
Aug 10, 2022
Backup on depth chart
Atwell was listed as a backup on the Rams' first unofficial depth chart released on Wednesday, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Ben Skowronek earned the No. 3 wide receiver role on the initial depth chart behind Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson, but Atwell has impressed during camp, showing off his blazing speed and sure hands during a pair of big plays in this week's practice. One potential hiccup for Atwell could be durability, however, and he told coaches he weighed 150 pounds, which is 15 pounds lighter than his already tiny official roster playing weight of 165. After missing the latter half of last year with shoulder surgery, Atwell will need to be able to prove he can stay on the field to earn the trust of coaches and supplant Skowronek and Van Jefferson (knee) on the depth chart to start the regular season.
Aug 2, 2022
Competing for a role
Atwell is part of a group of players currently serving as the No. 3 wide receiver while Van Jefferson misses time due to knee surgery, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell's biggest asset as a receiver is his blistering 4.35 speed, which matches one of Jefferson's best attributes. Atwell is very undersized at 5-foot-9, 155 pounds, however, and missed more than half of the 2021 season due to shoulder surgery, which likely puts him behind Ben Skowronek in the current pecking order, with Jacob Harris and Brandon Powell also jockeying for playing time. The Rams are giving Atwell the opportunity to perform in a variety of routes during training camp, however, so the possibility of a carved out role for the 2021 second-round pick is there if Jefferson's recovery from surgery is slower than expected.
Jun 27, 2022
Improved during minicamp
Atwell (shoulder) participated in June minicamp and managed to earn praise from teammates Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell, a 2021 second-round pick, had his rookie campaign limited to just eight appearances before having to undergo shoulder surgery. Since the undersized wideout's return to the practice field this offseason, though, Stafford noted that "everything" Atwell does appears "much more intentional." As a rookie, Atwell handled a key role on special teams and as a kick returner, but he was limited to just 10 offensive snaps. Though Kupp, Allen Robinson and Van Jefferson are cemented as the Rams' top wideout trio, Atwell could earn more chances to contribute in four-wide sets Year 2.
Nov 2, 2021
Placed on IR
Atwell (shoulder) has been officially placed on IR.
ANALYSIS
Per Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site, Atwell will need season-ending surgery to address a shoulder issue. Atwell -- who the Rams took with the 57th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft -- thus finishes his rookie campaign with 10 punt returns for 54 yards and five kick returns for 87 yards in eight games. Once he recovers from his surgery, the speedy Louisville product will set his sights on carving out a role in the team's offense in 2022.

Requires season-ending surgery
Atwell will undergo season-ending surgery on his shoulder and be placed on injured reserve, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie second role pick appeared set for a larger role with DeSean Jackson recently requesting a trade, but he went down with a serious shoulder injury during Sunday's win over the Texans. Atwell should move to injured reserve within the next couple days and will finish his rookie campaign without a catch in eight games.

Might not return Sunday
Atwell (shoulder) is questionable to return Sunday at Houston, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Atwell had played just 10 offensive snaps this season before Sunday's contest, so his potential absence shouldn't affect many fantasy rosters.

Could see larger role
Atwell could be in line to receive an extended opportunity Sunday as the Rams' No. 4 receiver against the Texans, as DeSean Jackson has recently requested a trade, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Although coach Sean McVay reportedly criticized Atwell for his lack of urgency recently, the receiver could potentially see a larger role Sunday, especially if the Rams' starting receivers face any injuries. With DeSean Jackson not playing Sunday, the only other receiver on the Rams' roster behind Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods and Van Jefferson is Ben Skowronek. Expect Atwell to see some offensive snaps Sunday against the Texans.

Losing playing time
Atwell played a single offensive snap and didn't see the field on special teams during Sunday's 28-19 win over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
While scarce playing time is nothing new for Atwell, it was fellow rookie Ben Skowronek returning kicks for the Rams on Sunday, and not Atwell. Fantasy settings where either Atwell or Skowronek are factors are probably few and far between, but this is still a minor development of note.

Only two snaps in NFL debut
Atwell wasn't targeted on his two offensive snaps and didn't play on special teams during Sunday's 34-14 win over Chicago.
ANALYSIS
It was a quiet debut for the rookie, and it's particularly telling that he wasn't utilized in a kick- or punt-returning role. Atwell projects to establish a specialty role in the offense over the course of the season because of his elite speed and game-breaking potential in space. However, it's clear he's not being rushed into action. The Rams have four capable receivers ahead of him on the depth chart, including proven speedster DeSean Jackson.

Returns from back issue
Atwell recorded eight receptions on 12 targets for 62 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Atwell has been absent from large portions of training camp, first as a result of being on the reserve/COVID-19 list. More recently, he was sidelined by a back issue. However, neither impacted his ability to rack up plenty of targets in the preseason finale. Atwell made the majority of his catches around the line of scrimmage, contrasting with his expected usage based on his 4.44 40-yard speed. His longest reception of the day went for 16 yards, though that was his only double-digit gain of the day. In addition to his duties as a wide receiver, Atwell served as the Rams' punt returned. Though his roster spot is secure, it's unlikely that Atwell will see a lot of targets to begin the regular season in a Week 1 matchup against Chicago.

Dealing with back injury
Atwell missed Monday's practice with a back injury, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After spending the first week of training camp on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Atwell has been practicing since Aug. 4 and even caught two passes for 21 yards in Saturday's preseason opener against the Chargers. The rookie second-round pick may be only fourth or fifth on the depth chart to start his career, but his 4.35 speed could be useful off the bench for occasional deep shots. It doesn't sound like Atwell's back injury is too serious.

Pair of grabs in preseason opener
Atwell secured two of four targets for 21 yards and returned a punt for no gain in the Rams' 13-6 preseason loss to the Chargers on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
The rookie snared a co-team-high 20-yard reception and tied with several players for third in catches on the night. Atwell is an intriguing but slight speedster that the Rams thought highly enough of to invest a second-round pick in last April, and he'll look to make an impact as a likely No. 5 receiver and special-teams asset this season.

Activated from COVID list
Atwell has been activated from the reserve/COVID list, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2021 second-rounder, who was placed on the list July 26, will now look to get back into the mix and carve out a role in a Rams' receiving corps that also includes Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, DeSean Jackson and Van Jefferson. Atwell's wheels are undeniable, but at a listed 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, it make take some time for Louisville product to earn steady enough snaps to make a fantasy splash.

Lands on COVID-19 list
The Rams Atwell on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.
ANALYSIS
Atwell's rookie training camp will get a late start because of the move, putting him behind the eight ball in terms of learning everything he needs to learn prior to his debut season. He will have to play catch-up with the other rookies and teammates once he's cleared from the list.
