The Olympic games are here and it’s an opportunity for the top tennis players in the world to vie for a prestigious gold medal. Unlike the Grand Slam tournaments, the opportunity for an Olympic medal only comes once every four years. Who will take advantage of this golden opportunity to represent their country with an Olympic victory?

The Olympic Games this year will be held in Paris. The tennis will be played at the historic stadium of Roland Garros, which is also the site of the prestigious French Open.

Roland Garros is known for its slow-bouncing clay, which gives an advantage to players with strong groundstrokes and who favor consistency over power. Even the mightiest of serves can be mitigated by the slow clay of Roland Garros.

2024 Paris Olympics

July 26 – August 11, 2024

Men’s Side

Three players have won the last 8 Grand Slam tournaments. The players are Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner. Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the tournament, making Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz the heavy favorites on the men’s side.

This is rightfully so as these two men have dominated the world of tennis the last two years.

The Veteran Champion and The New Standard

Novak Djokovic may be the greatest male player of all time, but he is getting up there in age. Carlos Alcaraz seems to have taken the mantle as the best player in the world. Alcaraz won the French Open and most recently won Wimbledon. Alcaraz has excellent consistency, a sublime sense of touch, and power. On the slow clay, Acaraz is the most likely player to win. and it’s definitely worth a bet.

Carlos Alcaraz’s victory at the French Open displays how tough he is to beat on the slow clay surface. His opponent in that match, Alexander Zverev, came into the match playing excellent tennis. However, he was no match for the gritty Alcaraz, as Alcaraz won the final sets 6-1, 6-2 in order to get the decisive victory.

A Long Shot

For a long shot, the Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas is definitely worth an option. With the format being best two out of three sets, Tsitsipas has the advantage of not having to keep his level of play high for 5 sets like you would in the French Open. Tsitsipas fell in this year’s French Open to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

He looked strong going into the match, and was able to push Alcaraz to his limits, just not able to get the victory in the decisive moments.

The closest he came was when he pushed the second set to a tiebreak, but even then, it was not enough to overcome the resilient Spaniard.

However, if we were to look for a player that could shock the dominant Alcaraz, Tsitsipas’ game is definitely the prototype that we would look out for to give Carlos trouble. Although Alcaraz is likely to win, Tsitsipas is worth a shot.

Tennis Pick: Carlos Alcaraz to Win the Olympic Gold Medal (-125) (2U) at Bet365

Tennis Pick: Stefanos Tsitsipas to Win the Olympic Gold Medal (+2000) (.25U) at Bet365

Women’s Side

Iga Swiatek is like Rafael Nadal at his finest, who went on an unprecedented run of success on the clay courts at Roland Garros. Now it is Swiatek who is poised to have the same level of success on clay. Iga won the French Open this year easily. No one even came close to giving her a tough match. Now, on the same courts, she has an opportunity to win a gold medal for her country. Iga is an easy bet to win this tournament.

Iga Swiatek has the perfect game for clay court tennis. She is highly consistent and does a great job alternating between topspin and slice to give a variety of looks to her opponent. Her slice is exceptionally effective as she is able to keep the ball low to the ground. This keeps her opponent in a defensive position, even on a shot that is not hit with a lot of pace.

She also has exceptional lateral quickness. Her ability to play elite defense as well as a top-notch offensive play is the reason that her well-rounded game always is formidable on clay courts.

The Long Shot

If you want to have some fun with a long shot, I would choose Barbora Krejcikova.

Krejcikova won the French Open in 2021 and won the most recent Wimbledon. If any player is able to give Iga a run for the title and push her to the limit it is Barbora Krejcikova. Krejcikova will probably take home a gold medal regardless, as I expect her and Katerina Siniakova to win the doubles event.

Tennis Pick: Iga Swiatek to Win the Olympic Gold Medal (-188) (2U) at Bet365

Tennis Pick: Barbora Krejcikova to Win the Olympic Gold Medal (+2200) (.25U) at Bet365
