Caleb Plant vs. Armando Resendiz
Saturday, May 31, 2025 – 11:00 PM EDT at Michelob Ultra Arena
Tale of the Tape
Routine Defense for the Champ
With an in-ring return to remind the 168-pound division that it doesn’t completely revolve around Canelo Alvarez, the interim WBA titleholder, Caleb Plant, will be looking to put on a performance in Vegas with his long-time foe, Jermall Charlo, also competing on the undercard.
Plant, with a 23-2 record and 14 knockouts, enters Saturday’s fight card as the biggest betting favorite, and this position is entirely justified. The Nevada native has fought the likes of David Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez, and despite losing said bouts, his recent interim title win puts him back in the big-fight picture with a potential clash with Charlo incoming, should both men win this weekend.
- Plant Best Moneyline Odds: (-1400) at Bet365
Aged just 26, Resendiz, with a 15-2 record and 11 knockouts, is significantly less experienced in the super middleweight division.
He holds a cliché Mexican style of do or die with a lot of aggression and obviously a chin made of steel, and although his recent performances have warranted this step-up in competition, it’s difficult to see him as an underdog worth backing.
- Resendiz Best Moneyline Odds: (+1200) at Bet365
The Sweet Science Breakdown
Like many Mexican boxers, a pressure-based approach will be Resendiz’s best path to victory. With this approach, he’ll put himself in a position to land a fight-finishing punch, but outside of this realm, he’s going to struggle severely against the technical approach of the champ.
Here’s the problem: Plant is no stranger to the style of Resendiz, and he’s fought against it at a much higher level. With the greater fight IQ and undoubtedly the better technique at range, it won’t be surprising to see Plant finesse his inexperienced opponent behind the jab and remove himself from center line danger, and be prepared to land counterattacks off his pivots.
Plant vs. Resendiz Best Bet Formula
Ultimately, Plant holds the advantages in almost every area of the fight game. He has the greatest cardio, experience, durability, footwork, green-zone striking, counter-striking ability, hand speed and power.
Of course, this is boxing, and as mentioned, Resendiz will have the puncher’s chance. However, the same aggressive approach that Resendiz will need to give himself a chance at victory will also place him in the danger zone for Plant’s combination and the potential of causing damage.
The available boxing odds at OddsTrader have placed Plant as a huge favorite, so much so that moneyline wagers are almost pointless. However, Resendiz will force the pressure, and in turn, this will open him up for plenty of body work and haymakers to the cranium that should allow Plant to secure his 15th knockout victory of his career.
