MLB Underdog Picks for August 15: Can The Marlins Stay Hot?

Sandy Alcantara Miami Marlins

There are many new three-game series starting tonight in the MLB. After looking through each game, I’ve settled on three underdog plays that you’ll want to consider using the AI Model before heading to the top-rated sportsbooks.

Let’s have a night!

Texas Rangers vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Friday, August 15, 2025 – 07:07 PM EDT at Rogers Centre

The AI Model thinks the Toronto Blue Jays will sneak by the Texas Rangers with a 3.9-3.8 win. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are +100 and slight underdogs in this game.

Let’s back the home team at Caesars Sportsbook (check our Caesars Sportsbook Review).

Two Former Mets Will Face Off!

The Rangers will send out Jacob deGrom for tonight’s game. He’ll go up against Chris Bassitt of the Blue Jays.

Both are terrific veterans. Jacob deGrom has had a better career, but he’s allowed a .261 ISO and wOBA of .331 to his last 95 batters.

Bassitt has allowed a .229 ISO and wOBA of .344 to his last 114 batters. Ultimately, Bassitt has earned more ground balls and has allowed fewer fly balls. The contact allowed will be worse for deGrom, especially since the Blue Jays have struck out far less against righties than the Rangers have.

Give me the Blue Jays at +100.

Miami Marlins vs. Boston Red Sox

Friday, August 15, 2025 – 07:10 PM EDT at Fenway Park

The AI Model suggests the Marlins and Red Sox will tie at 4.9-4.9. Yet, the Marlins are +142 on the moneyline. Miami has been one of the hottest teams in the MLB over the last month or so. Why not take them at +142?

Miami Is Red Hot!

The Miami Marlins have been playing inspired baseball over the last month. Now, they’ll have Sandy Alcantara on the mound against the Boston Red Sox tonight.

Alcantara has limited his last 125 batters to a .133 ISO and has earned nearly 45% of ground balls with only 22.3% of fly balls allowed. His strikeout rate could be higher, but at least Alcantara isn’t walking many.

Ultimately, the Red Sox’ projected lineup has four batters with a wOBA of no better than .292, and the team has struck out more than 23% of the time against righties over the last month using the projected lineup.

On the flip side, it’ll be Lucas Giolito for the Red Sox. The righty has allowed a .326 ISO and wOBA of .397 to his last 53 lefties.

The Marlins have six lefties in the lineup, and those lefties have hit a .210 ISO and wOBA of .388 over the last month. That said, I’m with the AI Model and will take the Marlins at +142.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Houston Astros

Friday, August 15, 2025 – 08:10 PM EDT at Daikin Park

The AI Model believes the Baltimore Orioles will hang on to a 4.1-3.6 victory on the road against the Houston Astros. Meanwhile, the Orioles are +205 on the moneyline.

It’s worth the gamble here.

Brandon Young Has Done Some Good Things!

The Orioles will send out Brandon Young for tonight’s showdown against the Astros. He’s only averaged 78.25 pitches per start over the last month. However, he’s limited his last 83 batters to 25.4% of fly balls. He’s also held his last 51 lefties to a .133 ISO.

In addition, righties have hit just 33.3% of hard contact against Young. He’s got some potential against the Astros’ lineup after all.

On the other hand, the Astros will ride with ace Framber Valdez. Valdez has been electric. However, he’s a left-handed pitcher and will face an Orioles lineup that rarely strikes out against lefties.

As a matter of fact, the entire Orioles’ lineup has struck out just 13.3% of the time against lefties over the last month. If the Orioles put the ball in play, good things should happen.

Let’s give the Orioles a chance at +205.
