There’s only one game on today’s WNBA schedule, but it promises to be a must-watch matchup.
The New York Liberty face the Minnesota Lynx in a clash between two of the league’s top contenders. Both teams, however, enter the game missing their biggest stars.
Breanna Stewart remains sidelined for New York, while Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier is unlikely to play. Despite Collier’s absence, the Lynx have stayed dominant, dropping only five games all season.
On the other hand, the Liberty have struggled without Stewart, losing two of their last three while failing to score more than 77 points in both defeats. With Minnesota favored by just 1.5 points, this showdown sets up as a close, exciting battle.
New York Liberty vs. Minnesota Lynx
Saturday, August 16, 2025 – 02:00 PM EDT at Target Center
DiJonai Carrington has scored at least 11 points in three consecutive games. Today, she’ll take on a Liberty defense that ranks 10th in the WNBA in points allowed to small forwards.
On the other hand, Sabrina Ionescu has recorded at least five assists in 70% of games this season. She’s also had a lot of success with assists against the Lynx in her career. With an elite matchup against the Lynx, let’s back Ionescu at Caesars Sportsbook (check our Caesars Sportsbook Review) to record at least five assists.
Lastly, take a look at Kayla McBride to add at least three three-pointers today. She’s nailed this line 50% of the time this season, but 59% of games against the Liberty.
DiJonai Carrington Is Playing For a Winner!
DiJonai Carrington was recently traded to the Minnesota Lynx. Now she’s getting more playing time and playing with better teammates. She’s on a winning team now!
Her role has improved, too. Ultimately, she’s played at least 24 minutes in two consecutive games and has scored at least 12 points in three straight games.
Carrington is good at drawing fouls and has shot 40% from the field. Today, she’ll face a Liberty squad that ranks 10th in points allowed to small forwards this season. That’s a good matchup for Carrington, who has seen more playing time and more shots since moving to Minnesota.
Ionescu Will Turn It Around!
Sabrina Ionescu had just one assist against Las Vegas last time out. However, she totaled at least five assists in three straight games prior to facing the Aces.
Ionescu has hit this line in 70% of games this season. She’s also added 5.5 assists in her last 17 head-to-head meetings against the Lynx. She’s nailed this line in 71% of games against the Lynx out of those last 17.
Her efficiency has dropped slightly over the last few weeks. But she’ll need to step up with Stewart still out. Plus, Minnesota ranks 9th in assists allowed to shooting guards this season.
McBride Can Make It Rain!
Kayla McBride is one of the league’s best three-point shooters. She’s nailed at least four threes in three of her last five games and even had one game with eight three-pointers earlier this month.
McBride has attempted nearly seven threes per game over the last ten games. She’s also hit 36.5% from downtown and has played close to 30 minutes a night during that stretch.
Meanwhile, she’ll battle a Liberty squad that ranks 11th in three-pointers allowed to shooting guards. McBride will get some quality looks and should drill them, especially at home.
Therefore, consider taking McBride at the top-rated sportsbooks to add at least three three-pointers as the last play of the day.
