I’m targeting the late-night games tonight in the MLB. The Texas Rangers and Athletics will battle it out to begin their season. The loser will drop to .500 after this game.
On the other hand, the Mets are traveling to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers. New York has really struggled offensively, and decided to call up Tommy Pham for some mojo.

Texas Rangers vs. Oakland Athletics

The Texas Rangers will pitch Nathan Eovaldi tonight. He’s struggled against lefties, allowing a .268 ISO and wOBA of .470. However, he’s only allowed 16.7% of line drives and has a strikeout rate of 25% against lefties this season. He’s one pitcher who should turn things around very soon.
He’s set to battle Luis Severino, who has walked 21.7% of batters this season. Severino only walked 7% last season, so this is a big shocker to start the year. Severino has also allowed 63.3% of hard contact and will pitch against a Texas lineup that has hit 52.1% of hard contact since last season against righties.
Until Severino can find his command, it’s really hard to back the Athletics, even at home. I’m on the Rangers at -120.

New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Mets are sitting at 7-9 after completely revamping their team in the offseason. It hasn’t worked out well for them so far. In addition, Juan Soto is hurt, and Francisco Lindor has had a lot of mental lapses.
Anyway, David Peterson will pitch for New York. The lefty has struggled against other lefties this season. That’s not ideal since he’ll have to face Shohei Ohtani, Kyle Tucker, Freddie Freeman, and Max Muncy in the Los Angeles lineup.
Meanwhile, Justin Wrobleski will pitch for the Dodgers. He hasn’t struck out one lefty as a left-handed pitcher this season. Look for the Mets to put the ball in play. However, over the last week, New York has struggled to even do that.
Overall, since last season, the Mets have had a good lineup. But it’s hard to trust them on the road against the Dodgers. Back Los Angeles at -158.
