Senzatela didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's game between the Rockies and the Padres. He tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing seven hits and one walk while fanning three.

Senzatela was dominant on Saturday night, throwing 70 of his 101 pitches for strikes and limiting the Padres -- one of the best offenses in the NL -- to just eight baserunners. He'll look for his fourth win Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Things unraveled for him a bit in the sixth frame however, as he allowed a leadoff triple, followed by a double and a walk to account for his one earned run. Still, the outing was impressive for Senzatela, as he has now allowed only three earned runs across 11 innings to start the season. He's in line to draw his next start Friday at Seattle.

There was some talk in summer camp of Senzatela simplifying his delivery and impressing with sharper secondary stuff. He was not a completely new pitcher in his 2020 debut -- Senzatela only induced five swinging strikes on 86 pitches -- but a road win in Oakland qualifies as a step in the right direction after he had a 6.71 ERA last season. We'll see what Senzatela can do this weekend at home against the Padres.

Senzatela looks in line to get his final tuneup of summer camp in Wednesday's exhibition versus the Rangers, which would seemingly put him on track to start the Rockies' fourth game of the regular season July 28 in Oakland. According to Kyle Newman of The Denver Post, Senzatela shed 15 pounds in the offseason and has shown a mid-90s fastball and sharper secondary offerings during spring training and summer camp, but the 25-year-old can probably be avoided outside of NL-only leagues until he delivers quality results in the games that count. Senzatela made 25 starts for the big club in 2019, posting a 6.71 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 5.5 K/9.

Senzatela spent spring training working on his curveball after employing it more often over his last four starts last season, often to better results, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Until he started throwing his curveball more, Senzatela was lacking a good off speed pitch, as his changeup had caused 'uncomfortable sensations' along the nerves from his ring finger to his elbow. He's hanging on to hold his rotation slot this spring, and that hold got a little stronger when Peter Lambert got hurt this spring.
