ANALYSIS
Raleigh kept up his season-long trend of squaring up formidably, belting his 16th and 17th extra-base hits of the season. The pair of two-baggers actually snapped a modest extra-base-hit drought for Raleigh, who'd list produced something other than a single May 17. The 26-year-old boosted his OPS to .773 with Friday's performance, equaling the career-high figure he finished the 2022 campaign with.

The switch hitter then flipped to the other side of the plate against southpaw Brennan Bernardino in the sixth and hit another two-run shot, this time a 434-footer. In doing so, Raleigh became the first catcher ever to homer from both sides of the plate at Fenway Park, per Jon Morosi of MLB Network. The backstop is up to seven long balls and 22 RBI on the campaign after belting 27 homers and driving in 63 runs in his first full MLB campaign last season.

ANALYSIS
On a prolific afternoon for the Mariners offense, Raleigh was the biggest beneficiary. The hard-hitting backstop's pair of round trippers both came at critical times as well, with his eighth-inning shot to right center plating Jarred Kelenic to bring Seattle within a run and his 408-foot blast to right in the 10th snapping an 8-8 tie and eventually proving to be the game-winning hit. Raleigh pushed his OPS over the .800 threshold (.801) with Sunday's power breakout, and he now has eight RBI in the last nine contests.

Slugs third homer

Belts first homer
Raleigh went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run in an extra-innings loss to the Guardians on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh's 375-foot shot to right with Ty France aboard in the second inning opened the scoring on the afternoon. The power-hitting backstop has already laced four of his eight hits for extra bases, and Sunday's homer helped him snap a brief 1-for-13 skid that had encompassed his previous three games.
Apr 5, 2023
Comes through with two hits Tuesday
Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI in Tuesday's 11-2 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh was one of six Mariners batters who finished the night with exactly two hits as the team put an end to a four-game losing streak. After leading all catchers in baseball with 27 home runs in 2022, Raleigh has yet to leave the yard through the first six games of the season, but his power hasn't completely gone missing. He's already accrued three doubles, and he's also done well to limit his punchouts early on (three in 18 plate appearances) after striking out at a 29.4 percent clip a season ago.
Apr 3, 2023
Riding pine Monday

Clutch two-bagger in loss
Raleigh went 2-for-5 with a two-run double in an extra-inning loss to the Guardians on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The hard-hitting backstop's third-inning double erased an early 3-2 deficit by plating Ty France and Eugenio Suarez. Raleigh compiled four RBI over the four-game season-opening set, and the fact he already has two doubles is par for the course considering his early-career penchant for making consistently hard contact.
Apr 1, 2023
Resting Saturday
Raleigh will sit Saturday against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh started the first two games of the season behind the plate, going 2-for-8 with a two-RBI double. Tom Murphy will take over at catcher Sunday.
Apr 1, 2023
Timely two-bagger in loss
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in the Mariners' loss to the Guardians on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The slugging backstop was one of the few bright spots on the night for the Mariners, knocking in Kolten Wong and Ty France with his third-inning double to knot the game at 3-3. The fact Raleigh already has an extra-base knock on the board in 2023 is par for the course, considering the 26-year-old came into the season having recorded at least a double on 62 of his first 103 major-league hits.

Raleigh is hitting .313 (5-for-16) with three doubles, one triple, two RBI and two runs across six Cactus League games.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old has made plenty of hard contact as that batting line corroborates, carrying over a favorable pattern that has been evident during Raleigh's first two big-league stints. The slugging backstop has impressively laced 62 of his 103 career big-league knocks to date for extra bases, and if he can pare down 2022's bloated 29.4 percent strikeout rate, he could certainly give himself a good chance of boosting last season's unsightly .211 average and .284 on-base percentage.

Looks good for spring camp
Raleigh (thumb) took live batting practice against Mariners reliever Diego Castillo on Monday and appears to be fully healthy for spring training, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh had already been catching bullpen sessions during the first couple weeks of camp in Arizona, but his ability to add batting practice to his workout regimen suggests that he's been cleared for full baseball activities after undergoing surgery in the fall to address a broken left thumb and a torn ligament in his hand. Coming off a 2022 campaign in which he hit just .211 but led all backstops with 27 home runs, Raleigh is likely to be drafted as a starting catcher in nearly every fantasy league.
Feb 1, 2023
No issues in bullpen session
Raleigh (thumb) told reporters Wednesday that he had no issues during a bullpen session with Marco Gonzales, Curtis Crabtree of FOX 13 Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh did mention the he does have more rehab and strengthening to do, but it's obviously a positive sign that he was able to receive as a backstop without trouble. The switch-hitting backstop underwent surgery after the season, and played through the end of the year and postseason while dealing with the broken thumb and torn ligament in his left hand. At this point, it seems very likely Raleigh will be ready for the start of the 2023 campaign.

Dealing with hand injury
Raleigh has been playing through a broken thumb and torn ligament in his left hand, Adam Jude of the Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS

ANALYSIS
Raleigh started at DH in the nightcap and delivered his second three-hit game of the season, singling in the third and sixth and cracking a solo shot in the fifth. The long ball is the backstop's 27th of the campaign as four of his last eight hits have left the yard. Raleigh's .278 isolated power would rank fourth in MLB if he had enough at-bats to qualify.

Blasts 24th homer
Raleigh went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two strikeouts in a 5-1 loss to the Royals on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh's performance at the plate was like a microcosm of his entire season: plenty of strikeouts with combined with above average power. The 25-year-old catcher has the second-most home runs hit from the position this year behind only Daulton Varsho. However, he also came into Friday night's game with an awful strikeout rate of 28.8%.
Sep 22, 2022
Plays full game behind dish in loss
Raleigh (thumb) started and played a full game at catcher in a loss to the Athletics on Wednesday, going 0-for-2 with a walk.
ANALYSIS
The backstop had missed four of the previous five games with his thumb injury, so his ability to put in a full game Wednesday was encouraging. Raleigh has now reached safely in three of his past four games, but his power (42 extra-base hits, including 23 home runs) has led to a .465 slugging percentage that's helped offset a forgettable .203 average and .278 on-base percentage.
Sep 21, 2022
Back in action Wednesday
Raleigh (thumb) is starting behind the plate and batting sixth Wednesday against the A's.
ANALYSIS

Mariners manager Scott Servais confirmed that Raleigh's absence from the lineup for Monday's series finale with the Angels is related to persistent soreness in the catcher's jammed left thumb, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh missed two games due to the issue before returning to action for Saturday's 2-1 win, and though he played the full contest, he'll be back on the bench Monday for the second straight game. Though Servais didn't officially rule Raleigh out for Tuesday's series opener in Oakland, Brock speculates that the young backstop won't be available. Curt Casali is replacing Raleigh behind the plate in Monday's contest.
Sep 19, 2022

Curt Casali checks in for Raleigh behind the dish.
Sep 18, 2022
On base twice in return
Raleigh (thumb) went 1-for-3 with a walk in a loss to the Angels on Saturday.

He struck out in that at-bat, but redemption came in the 11th when he added insurance runs with his 22nd homer of the campaign. The catcher is on a remarkable power surge, as four of his last five hits over his last five games have left the yard. He's up to a .208/.281/.484 slash line with 52 RBI, 38 runs scored and a stolen base through 100 contests this year.

ANALYSIS
Raleigh's homer came in the second inning and increased Seattle's lead to 3-0. This was his 15th home run of the year and his first hit since July 28. The catcher has spent most of this season hitting below the Mendoza line, but finished July with a .207 batting average. Raleigh is batting .204 on the season after two games in August. ANALYSIS

ANALYSIS
Raleigh has found the power stroke in 2022, going deep 13 times over the first half of the season. The total ranks him third amongst catchers, behind only Will Smith and Willson Contreras. Raleigh's .469 SLG is the redeeming factor in a slash line which otherwise includes a .206 AVG and .286 OBP.

Jul 8, 2022

ANALYSIS
The Mariners rotated their three catchers heavily early in the season, but Raleigh has handled a very heavy workload lately with Luis Torrens and Tom Murphy both out with shoulder injuries. Raleigh started nine of the last 10 games heading into Friday's contest, but it will be Andrew Knapp behind the plate Friday.
Jul 8, 2022
Belts 11th homer
Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a home run and three total RBI in an 8-3 win over Toronto on Thursday.
ANALYSIS

Jul 5, 2022
Drives in four Monday
Raleigh went 1-for-5 with an RBI fielder's choice and a three-run double in a win over the Padres on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh's stat line was certainly a lopsided one in a positive way, with the backstop parlaying yet another extra-base hit into a clutch three-run double in the sixth inning. The 25-year-old is still chasing the Mendoza Line with a .194 average, but his solid .456 slugging percentage is the byproduct of having laced 21 of his 31 hits for extra bases.
Jul 1, 2022
Resting Friday
Raleigh will sit Friday against Oakland, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh had a double and a triple in Thursday's series opener, but he'll hit the bench here after starting four straight games behind the plate. Andrew Knapp will make his first start as a Mariner in his place.
Jul 1, 2022
Knocks cover off ball Thursday
Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run triple and a run in a win over the Athletics on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The young backstop continued to display his season-long penchant for squaring up on the ball Thursday, racking up his 18th and 19th extra-base hits of the campaign. Considering Raleigh has just 29 hits overall and still carries a .199 average, 283 on-base percentage and 30.1 percent strikeout rate, it's clear the 25-year-old is a true feast-or-famine option.
Jun 28, 2022
Belts 10th homer
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Baltimore starter Tyler Wells had a perfect game going for 4.2 innings Monday before Raleigh broke it up with his solo shot to right field. The homer was his 10th of the season, which is tied for second-most among American League catchers. Raleigh's .199 average and 30.3 percent strikeout rate aren't ideal, but he's gained fantasy relevance thanks to his power stroke.
Jun 26, 2022
Resting Sunday
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh will get a routine breather after he started behind the plate in six of the past seven games. Luis Torrens will spell Raleigh, who has solidified himself as Seattle's clear No. 1 catcher by producing an .825 OPS in 35 games since being called up from Triple-A Tacoma on May 7.
Jun 26, 2022
Reaches base four times
Raleigh went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a walk in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh was on base more than any Mariner, but he wasn't directly involved in any run-scoring plays. He's gone 8-for-24 (.333) with two home runs and four doubles across his last eight games, solidifying his role as the No. 1 catcher. The 25-year-old is slashing .198/.293/.458 with nine homers, 19 RBI, 15 runs scored and seven doubles in 44 contests overall, though he's been steadily trending upwards since late May.
Jun 23, 2022
Resting for day game
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Luis Torrens will get the nod behind the dish for the day game after Raleigh started at catcher in each of the Mariners' previous four contests. Raleigh went 1-for-4 with his ninth home run of the season, a walk and an additional run in Wednesday's 9-0 triumph.
Jun 23, 2022
Launches ninth homer
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Wednesday's 9-0 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh went yard in the second inning. Five of the catcher's nine homers this year have come in June, where he's batting a solid (.246) in 18 contests. He's posted a .187/.279/.447 slash line with 19 RBI and 15 runs scored in 42 games overall, though his strong play of late has made him the Mariners' primary catcher over Luis Torrens.
Jun 22, 2022
Showing improvement in June
Raleigh, who went 1-for-1 with a double and two walks in a win over the Athletics on Tuesday, is hitting .245 with four doubles, four home runs, nine RBI, seven walks, a hit by pitch and six runs across 17 games in June.
ANALYSIS
The young backstop still carries an abysmal .185 average and .274 on-base percentage, but he has a serviceable .429 slugging percentage thanks to 13 of his 22 hits having gone for extra bases. Raleigh had only one double-digit homer season in the minors -- he tallied 22 round trippers for High-A Modesto back in 2019 -- yet he's displayed a knack for consistently impactful contact by lacing over 40.0 percent of his hits for extra bases in six professional stops, including his two big-league stints thus far.
Jun 18, 2022
On bench for afternoon game
Raleigh will sit for the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh was never going to start both halves of the twin bill despite the fact that he owns a .967 OPS in his last 12 games. Luis Torrens starts behind the plate in Game 1, but Raleigh should return for Game 2.
Jun 18, 2022
Clubs eighth homer
Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Friday's 8-1 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh's second-inning homer was ultimately all the Mariners needed to get the win Friday. The catcher is now 11-for-45 (.244) with four homers, nine RBI and six runs through 13 games in June as he maintains the starting role behind the dish. He's up to a .180/.252/.432 slash line with eight homers, 18 RBI, 13 runs and four doubles across 123 plate appearances overall.
Jun 15, 2022

Jun 9, 2022
Slugs seventh homer in win
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a win over the Astros on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh uncorked his seventh long ball of the season at a particularly timely juncture, as his 386-foot blast to right center in the fourth inning with Abraham Toro aboard knotted the game at 3-3. The young backstop still carries an abysmal .167 average and .232 on-base percentage for the season, but he's now left the yard three times in his last six games while producing a .300/.333/.800 slash line in that sample of 21 plate appearances.
Jun 7, 2022
Dumps four big runs on Astros
Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Monday's 7-4 win against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh broke a 1-1 tie in the second inning with a three-run blast to right field. Houston tied the score in the bottom of that frame, but Raleigh again unknotted things with his run-scoring single in the fourth. This was the second time in his past six games that the backstop has compiled multiple RBI. Raleigh is batting only .169 on the season, but his bat has been coming alive of late. He's hitting .270 (10-for-37) with three homers, 10 RBI and eight runs over his past 10 games despite notching a 0:14 BB:K.

Launches solo shot
Raleigh went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double in Friday's 4-3 win over the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh was the only Mariner to record multiple hits against Dane Dunning and two Rangers relievers. In the fifth inning, Raleigh swatted his fifth homer of the year. Both of the catcher's multi-hit efforts this season have come in his last seven contests. He's still batting a poor .151/.222/.384 with 10 RBI, eight runs scored and two doubles through 81 plate appearances while sharing time with Luis Torrens behind the dish with Tom Murphy (shoulder) on the injured list.

Not in Thursday's lineup
Raleigh isn't starting Thursday against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh started in the last two games and went 1-for-8 with three RBI, a run and two strikeouts. Luis Torrens will take over behind the dish and bat ninth Thursday.
Jun 1, 2022
Drives in three Tuesday
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with an RBI sacrifice fly, a two-run single and a run in a win over the Orioles on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The light-hitting backstop made plenty of noise out of the bottom of the order with his third multi-RBI effort of the season, all which have come from May 15 onward. His eventful night notwithstanding, Raleigh is still carrying an abysmal .136/.216/.333 slash line for the season, although five of his nine hits have gone for extra bases.
May 29, 2022
Takes seat Sunday
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh started the first two games against Houston and will head to the bench for the series finale after going 1-for-8 with a double, a run and four strikeouts. Luis Torrens will work behind the plate Sunday.
May 25, 2022
Not starting Wednesday
Raleigh isn't starting Wednesday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh started in the last three games and went 3-for-11 with a homer, two runs, two RBI and seven strikeouts. Luis Torrens will start behind the dish and bat ninth Wednesday.
May 24, 2022
Slugs fourth homer in win
Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a win over the Athletics on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh drew the start at catcher while Luis Torrens shifted to designated hitter, and the former enjoyed some rare offensive success out of the bottom of the order. The 25-year-old backstop continues to find success at the plate difficult to come by at the big-league level despite consistent production at Triple-A Tacoma, but four of his six hits with the Mariners across 57 plate appearances have left the yard.
May 19, 2022
Sits after two straight starts
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh, who popped his third home run of the season in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Toronto, will retreat to the bench as the Mariners kick off a four-game series in Boston. The Mariners called Raleigh up from Triple-A Tacoma when Tom Murphy (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list May 7, but Raleigh could find himself back in the minors by the weekend. Murphy appears on track to return from the IL at some point during the series in Boston, and with Luis Torrens also on hand, the Mariners may not have the luxury of keeping Raleigh around as a third catcher.
May 16, 2022
Breaks skid with homer
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Sunday in the Mariners' 8-7 win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh's second home run of the season put an end to a 2-for-33 slump at the dish for the young backstop, who is now slashing .086/.200/.257 with a 37.5 percent strikeout rate. He still looks to be behind Luis Torrens on the depth chart at catcher.
May 7, 2022
Recalled by Seattle
Raleigh was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh hit just .083 in nine games with the Mariners early in the year, and he was sent to Tacoma in late April. He slashed .286/.333/..464 with a homer, two doubles, four runs and four RBI with the minor-league club and will rejoin Seattle after Tom Murphy (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Raleigh will likely split time with Luis Torrens behind the dish.
Apr 28, 2022
Sent to minors
The Mariners optioned Raleigh to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Though Raleigh received the start behind the dish Opening Day, he's essentially been part of a three-way timeshare at catcher with Tom Murphy and Luis Torrens throughout the season. He didn't make consecutive starts over any of the Mariners' first 18 contests of the season, appearing in nine games in total while going 2-for-24 with a 32.1 percent strikeout rate. Raleigh should receive more consistent playing time at Tacoma, while his demotion clears the way for both Murphy and Torrens to take on larger roles at catcher at the big-league level.
Apr 26, 2022
Sitting Tuesday
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh and Tom Murphy will continue their pattern of alternating turns behind the plate, as both backstops have now drawn three starts at catcher apiece over the Mariners' last six games. The recent return of Luis Torrens from the COVID-19 injured list gives Seattle yet another option at catcher, so Raleigh could be more likely to see his playing time decrease than grow moving forward.
Apr 21, 2022
Not in Thursday's lineup
Raleigh isn't starting Thursday's game against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners haven't utilized a primary catcher early in the year, and Raleigh will retreat to the bench for the third time in the last four games. Tom Murphy will take over behind the plate and bat sixth.
Apr 19, 2022
Sitting Tuesday
Raleigh is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Texas.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh started behind the plate on Opening Day, but it doesn't appear as though the Mariners have a true starting catcher this season. Through 11 games, he's started four times, while Tuesday's starter Tom Murphy has also started four games. Luis Torrens has picked up the remaining three starts and has an additional start as a designated hitter.
Apr 17, 2022
Not in Sunday's lineup
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Seattle will continue to utilize a three-man rotation behind the plate, with Luis Torrens receiving the starting nod Sunday. However, Raleigh leads the team with four starts and has an .812 OPS early in the campaign.
Apr 15, 2022
Not starting Friday
Raleigh isn't starting Friday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners have had a timeshare behind the dish early in the season, and Raleigh will be on the bench for the third time in the last four games. Tom Murphy will start at catcher and bat ninth.
Apr 14, 2022
Hits first homer of season
Raleigh went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk during Thursday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh extended Seattle's lead to 3-1 with a solo blast in the top of the seventh inning off White Sox reliever Bennett Sousa. Raleigh appears to be a timeshare with Luis Torrens and Tom Murphy, but Raleigh in the first catcher of the group to reach three starts. Through the first week of the season, Raleigh is 2-for-10 with three walks and three strikeouts.
Apr 13, 2022
Sitting again
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
All of Raleigh, Luis Torrens and Tom Murphy have now picked up two starts apiece at catcher this season, making it difficult to discern which of the three is atop the depth chart. Raleigh is sitting for the second straight day Wednesday while Murphy picks up a turn at catcher.
Apr 12, 2022
Sitting Tuesday
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the White Sox, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners have rolled out a three-man rotation at catcher to begin the season, with Raleigh and Luis Torrens both picking up two turns behind the plate while Tom Murphy has started once. Raleigh's superior defense might be enough to give him the edge over Torrens as the nominal No. 1 option, but the 25-year-old backstop may need to show some improvement at the plate to maintain his spot atop the depth chart. Through his first 154 plate appearances in the big leagues, Raleigh is slashing .182/.234/.308 with a 35.1 percent strikeout rate.
Apr 10, 2022
Not in Sunday's lineup
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Sunday's game at Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh finds himself on the bench for the second straight contest after going 1-for-2 with two walks Opening Day. Luis Torrens will catch Sunday, as the Mariners have given all three of their catchers a start through the first three games of the year.
Apr 9, 2022
Riding pine Saturday
Raleigh isn't starting Saturday's game against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh drew the start in Friday's Opening Day win and went 1-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout. Tom Murphy will start behind the plate and bat ninth Saturday.
Apr 8, 2022
Gets Opening Day start
Raleigh will catch and bat ninth in Friday's Opening Day game against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners will carry three catchers to start the year, but it's Raleigh who will get the Opening Day nod over Tom Murphy and Luis Torrens. Raleigh was a fairly interesting prospect but struggled to a .180/.223/.309 line in his 47-game debut last year. His underlying numbers suggest he deserved that poor performance, as he combined a 35.1 percent strikeout rate with a 4.7 percent walk rate, but the Mariners clearly believe he'll do better going forward.
Apr 2, 2022
Could snag roster spot
Raleigh, who's hitting .278 with a home run and three RBI in nine Cactus League games, could be one of three catchers to make the Opening Day roster, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old backstop has shown some solid improvement at the plate this spring after producing a .180/.223/.309 slash line across his first 148 big-league plate appearances in 2021. Raleigh does have solid pedigree as an offensive player, highlighted by a stellar season at Triple-A Tacoma a year ago that saw him produce a .324 average and .985 OPS in 199 plate appearances. Kramer also notes Raleigh has worked well with the entire pitching staff this spring and already produced above-average defensive metrics during his first majors stint.
Sep 24, 2021
Smacks second home run
Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh took James Kaprielian yard in the fifth inning to record the second home run of his career. He drew a start for the first time in three games, with Tom Murphy remaining the team's primary catcher. Across the first 138 plate appearances of his career in the majors, Raleigh is hitting .177.217/.308 while striking out at a 36.2 percent clip.
Sep 15, 2021
Second straight two-hit start
Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a double in a loss to the Red Sox on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The reserve backstop has a miserable .178/.222/.288 slash line for the season, but he's at least had a reason to smile over his last two starts. Raleigh is 4-for-8 in that pair of opportunities with the starting nine, which have come within a four-day period. Raleigh has encouragingly gotten good wood on the ball in that brief sample as well, as three of his four hits have been two-baggers.
Sep 8, 2021
Loses hold of No. 1 job
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
After sitting against Houston right-hander Jake Odorizzi on Tuesday, the lefty-hitting Raleigh will remain on the bench versus a righty (Jose Urquidy) for the second day in a row. At this point, Tom Murphy -- who will catch Wednesday's game -- appears to have usurped Raleigh on the depth chart. After going 0-for-17 over his last six games, Raleigh's batting average now sits at .157 since he was called up from Triple-A Tacoma on July 11.
Sep 7, 2021
Not starting Tuesday

ANALYSIS

On bench Sunday

Not in Friday's lineup
Raleigh isn't starting Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS

Sep 1, 2021
Sitting in series finale
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
After going 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 4-0 win to drop his season average to .173, Raleigh will take a seat for the second time in the series. Tom Murphy will step in behind the dish for Raleigh.
Aug 30, 2021
Retreats to bench
Raleigh isn't in the lineup Monday against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh went 1-for-6 with an RBI, a walk and two strikeouts across the last two games and will get a day off Monday. Tom Murphy will start at catcher and bat ninth.
Aug 27, 2021
Not in Friday's lineup
Raleigh isn't starting Friday's game against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a double and two strikeouts in Thursday's contest, but he'll retreat to the bench for the second time in the last three games. Tom Murphy will start at catcher and bat seventh.
Aug 24, 2021
On bench Tuesday
Raleigh will sit Tuesday against Oakland.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh is a fairly highly-rated prospect and has been given the chance to earn everyday at-bats recently, but he hasn't made the most of the opportunity. Through his first 91 MLB plate appearances, he's homered just once while slashing .179/.231/.286. Tom Murphy starts behind the plate in his absence.
Aug 22, 2021
Takes seat Sunday
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Tom Murphy will be behind the plate for the series finale after Raleigh caught five of the Mariners' previous six games. Despite the run of steady playing time, Raleigh has yet to carry over much of his offensive success from Triple-A Tacoma over to the majors. Through his first 86 MLB plate appearances, Raleigh is hitting .177 with six extra-base hits (one home run, five doubles) and 30 strikeouts (34.9 percent rate).
Aug 19, 2021
Riding pine Thursday
Raleigh isn't starting Thursday's game against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh was in the lineup during each of the last three games and went 3-for-9 with two doubles, two runs and three strikeouts. Tom Murphy will start behind the plate and bat seventh.
Aug 14, 2021
Remains on bench
Raleigh will sit for the second straight game Saturday against Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh has a fair amount of potential but hasn't shown much of it in his first 20 major-league games, hitting .159/.206/.254. Tom Murphy remains the starter behind the plate in his absence.
Aug 13, 2021
Out of Friday's lineup
Raleigh is not in Friday's lineup against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Tom Murphy gets the start behind the dish with lefty Robbie Ray on the hill for Toronto. The Mariners face lefties on Saturday (Hyun Jin Ryu) and Sunday (Steven Matz) as well, so Raleigh could play sparingly, if at all, this weekend.
Aug 10, 2021
Not starting Tuesday
Raleigh is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
After a 1-for-4 performance Sunday, Raleigh is now hitting .182 with two doubles and six RBI in his last 10 games. Tom Murphy is catching and batting eighth Tuesday.
Aug 7, 2021
Back to bench
Raleigh isn't starting Saturday's game against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a double Friday, but he'll retreat to the bench for the third time in the last four games. Tom Murphy will start behind the dish and bat fifth.
Aug 5, 2021
Benched for second straight day
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
After a string of four consecutive starts behind the dish, Raleigh will remain on the bench for a second straight day while Tom Murphy receives another turn behind the dish. Though Murphy's .654 OPS is more than 200 points below his 2020 mark, he's still threatening Raleigh's status as the Mariners' No. 1 backstop. Since his July 11 call-up from Triple-A Tacoma, Raleigh has slashed .152/.200/.261 while striking out in 32 percent of his plate appearances.
Aug 4, 2021
Not in Wednesday's lineup
Raleigh isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Rays.
ANALYSIS

Jul 28, 2021
Takes seat Wednesday
Raleigh isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh recorded hits in each of the last two games and went 3-for-7 with a double, three RBI, a run and a walk during that time. Tom Murphy will start behind the plate and bat seventh.
Jul 27, 2021
Plates three in comeback win
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Monday's 11-8 win over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
The rookie backstop struck out three times on the night, but he made his lone hit count, as he cleared the bases with a two-bagger in the fourth inning to put the Mariners on the board. Raleigh is now slashing .148/.207/.333 with a 37.9 percent strikeout rate through the first eight games of his big-league career, but the Mariners will likely give him at least a few more opportunities to right the ship before pulling the plug on him as the team's No. 1 catcher.
Jul 25, 2021
Day off Sunday
Raleigh is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh started the past two games and will take a seat for Sunday's afternoon affair. Tom Murphy will work behind the plate for Seattle.
Jul 24, 2021
Swats first major-league homer
Raleigh went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Friday's 4-3 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh picked up a start behind the dish for the first time since July 20 and drilled a fastball over the right field wall for his first career home run. The 24-year-old did strike out in his other three at-bats and is just 3-for-20 to begin his big-league tenure. He'll likely move forward in a timeshare while he's still getting used to MLB pitching.
Jul 22, 2021
Remains on bench
Raleigh isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh will be out of the lineup for the third time in the last four games after he went 2-for-15 with a double, two RBI and a run across his first four major-league appearances. Tom Murphy will take over behind the plate and bat sixth.
Jul 21, 2021
On bench Wednesday

Jul 18, 2021
Takes seat Sunday
Raleigh is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh had started behind the plate in each of the Mariners' last three games, going hitless with four strikeouts across 12 at-bats. Though he's still looking for his first big-league hit, Raleigh appears set to work ahead of both Luis Torrens and Tom Murphy. The Mariners will hand Murphy a start at catcher Sunday in what likely amounts to a maintenance day for Raleigh.
Jul 11, 2021
Joins Mariners Sunday
Raleigh was selected from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. He is catching and batting sixth in the series finale against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh has been stellar with Tacoma this season, hitting .324 with nine homers and 36 RBI in 176 at-bats. One of the organization's higher-ranked prospects, the 24-year-old will be making his MLB debut Sunday.
Jun 15, 2021
Standout numbers in Tacoma
Raleigh owns a .357/.412/.661 slash line with 15 doubles, one triple, six home runs and 23 RBI over 28 games for Triple-A Tacoma.
ANALYSIS
The talented backstop is in the midst of the most productive season in affiliated ball yet, and his numbers are particularly in stark contrast to the .228/.296/.414 line he produced for Double-A Arkansas back in 2019. Raleigh's stellar numbers could well earn him a big-league promotion at some point in 2021 if they endure, especially considering the trio of Tom Murphy, Luis Torrens and Jose Godoy have largely failed to distinguish themselves at the plate thus far.
Mar 7, 2021
Encouraging start to spring
Raleigh is 2-for-7 with a double, an RBI and a run across his first three Cactus League games.
ANALYSIS
The promising catcher doesn't have a clear path to an Opening Day roster spot with Tom Murphy and Luis Torrens expected to form a platoon behind the dish to open the season, but it's been previously speculated Raleigh is slated to make his big-league debut at some point in the 2021 campaign. Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports manager Scott Servais was especially pleased with Raleigh's work at the plate during Friday's tie with the White Sox, a game in which the 24-year-old knotted up the score at 2-2 in the third with a two-out single on a full count. A third-round pick in the 2018 first-year player draft, Raleigh has steadily progressed through the organizational ranks and posted a 22-homer, 66-RBI campaign as part of a .261/.336/.535 slash at High-A Modesto back in 2018.
Feb 21, 2021
Expected to debut this season
Raleigh is expected to debut this season, team president Kevin Mather said in a talk with the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club in early February which was posted to the club's official YouTube channel.
ANALYSIS
Mather's talk contained some surprisingly direct discussions of the sort of blatant service-time manipulation that teams tend not to admit to, though Raleigh's case may not involve the same sort of foul play. He didn't fully conquer Double-A during his 39 games for Arkansas in 2019, striking out 29.6 percent of the time while posting a 96 wRC+, so he'll need to prove himself in the high minors before pushing for a debut later in the year.
Aug 24, 2020
Avoids concussion
Raleigh required stitches on his right ear to seal a laceration that he sustained after he was hit in the side of the head by a bat during an intrasquad game Sunday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fortunately, the 23-year-old catcher was cleared of a concussion, so he should be ready to resume game action within the next few days. Raleigh received an invite to the Mariners' summer camp after slashing .251/.323/.497 between stops at High-A Modesto and Double-A Arkansas in 2091.
Aug 23, 2020
Hurt in intrasquad game
Raleigh suffered a head injury during Sunday's intrasquad matchup at the team's alternate training site, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Raleigh was hit by the backswing of a teammate during the game that required him to get stitches in his head. It's unclear whether he's dealing with a concussion. The 23-year-old has yet to appear in the majors, but he impressed in camp and could join the 28-man roster at some point if injuries occur to the Mariners' catchers, assuming Raleigh himself is healthy.
Jul 17, 2020
Could see playing time in '20
Raleigh is likely to frequently be designated the third catcher on the team's three-man taxi squad this season and could see some regular-season playing time, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. "Cal's having a good camp," manager Scott Servais said. "He swings the bat really well and certainly has power from both sides of the plate. The catching side has really impressed me with his arm strength in this camp and some of the drills."
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old backstop has Tom Murphy and Austin Nola ahead of him on the depth chart, but Johns makes a case for Raleigh getting his first taste of regular-season big-league action at some point. If Murphy, who's expected to serve as the primary backstop, misses some time during the 60-game campaign, Nola, who only has four games of experience behind the dish, will likely need some help manning the position. Raleigh has yet to play above the Double-A level and struggled to a .228 average and .296 on-base percentage in 39 games there last season, but he's worked closely with Mariners Hall of Fame catcher Dan Wilson during summer camp and has caught the eye of his boss. "He's still learning all the pitchers and their nuances, certainly some of the older guys, but this is a good opportunity for him," Servais said. "He's a guy that's going to show up here at some point and play a big role for us behind the plate, there's no question about that."
