Jalon Daniels Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Utes vs Jayhawks game on Friday with our NCAA FOOTBALL injury report.Nov 18, 2023
Dressed but not warming up
Daniels (back) was observed in uniform but was not taking part in warmups for Saturday's game against Kansas State, Sam Winton of Kansan Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels has not been able to take the field since getting injured back in Week 4. The junior quarterback will remain questionable until more news indicate his availability. Jason Bean (head) was spotted in warmups and could start under center if the junior quarterback cannot go.
Nov 16, 2023
Will return for next season
Daniels confirmed in a statement via the team account on X that he will be returning to Kansas for the 2024 season.
ANALYSIS
Daniels has missed most of this season with a back injury, appearing in just three games for the Jayhawks this year. The junior quarterback threw for 2014 yards and 18 touchdowns in nine games during the 2022 season, accounting for 425 yards and seven scores on the ground as well.
Nov 11, 2023
Not spotted in warmups
Daniels (back) was not spotted in warmups and is expected to not play Saturday against Texas Tech, Michael Swain of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The junior quarterback will miss his sixth straight game as he is still dealing with a back injury. With the star quarterback absent once again, senior Jason Bean will once again start for the Jayhawks. Daniels will attempt to return next week against Kansas State.
Nov 6, 2023
Not practicing Monday
Head coach Lance Leipold indicated Monday that Daniels (back) sat out practice Monday and is questionable for Saturday's game against Texas Tech, Matt Tait of the Perpetual Sports Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels has only appeared in three games this season as he continues to deal with a back injury. In his absence, Jason Bean has been getting work under center.
Nov 4, 2023
Ruled out Saturday
Daniels (back) didn't travel with the team and is out to face Iowa State on Saturday, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels has yet to recover from a nagging back injury and has been ruled out, so Jason Bean is expected to get the start under center once again. Daniels will be starter once he's healthy, but that won't be the case here, and injuries have limited him to just three appearances in 2023.
Oct 30, 2023
Unlikely to play Saturday
Kansas head coach Lance Leipold indicated Monday that Daniels (back) is not yet fully recovered and unlikely to play in Saturday's matchup against Iowa State, Matt Tait of Perpetual Sports Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Leipold also stated that Daniels is the starting quarterback once he is healthy. The junior quarterback has only appeared in three games this year, completing 74.7 percent of his throws for 700 yards to go along five touchdowns and one interception.
Oct 28, 2023
Not among top two QBs in warmups
Daniels (back) isn't working as one of the top two warmups ahead of Saturday's game against Oklahoma, Michael Swain of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was reportedly considered possibly available for the contest, but it's Jason Bean who will get the start, and it seems Daniels would likely only be an emergency option if Bean goes down, though that's not guaranteed either. Cole Ballard is serving as the No. 2 option under center during warmups.
Oct 28, 2023
May be available if needed
Daniels (back) is dressed and could be available if needed Saturday, but he won't start against Oklahoma, national college football writer Brett McMurphy reports.
ANALYSIS
It was reported earlier in the week that Daniels was unlikely to be available and that Jason Bean would start. While Bean does appear set to start as expected, it appears Daniels could take some snaps under center for the first time since Week 4 if the situation arises. Bean has played reasonably well in his stead, but Daniels seems likely to retake the reins under center when healthy.
Oct 24, 2023
Not likely to start
Daniels (back) is not expected to start Saturday against Oklahoma, head coach Lance Leipold told media, including Jon Kirby of Rivals.com, on Tuesday. "He's making progress," Leipold said of Daniels. "It's still not where it needs to know. Again, today will be a big day. I haven't heard what the trainers are going to say, but right now I would expect Jason Bean to be the starting quarterback and that's the direction we're heading."
ANALYSIS
While Daniels seems to be heading in the right direction while recovering from his back injury, he's not where he needs to be a starter, and the Jayhawks do not want to take any risks with their starting quarterback, meaning Bean will get the nod after an impressive showing against Oljhpma State in Week 7. Daniels should remain questionable to play until further notice.
Oct 23, 2023
Status murky for Week 9
Daniels (back) is questionable-to-doubtful for Kansas' game Saturday against Oklahoma, Shreyas Laddha of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Kansas' head coach Lance Leipold said Daniels is still progressing and doing more. However, his updated status remains little of an improvement. Even with benefit of a bye week, Jason Bean is expected to remain the Jayhawks' starting quarterback for their next game.
Oct 14, 2023
Slated to sit as expected
Daniels (back) is in street clothes during warmups ahead of Saturrday's game versus Oklahoma State, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Jason Bean was already announced as the starter for the Jayhawks, and he was considered doubtful to take the field. This all but confirms Daniels will miss another game as he continues to nurse a back issue. With a bye week on deck, perhaps Daniels can rejoin the action Oct. 28 against Oklahoma.
Oct 12, 2023
Not starting, status same
Daniels (back) is not the starting quarterback for Kansas' game Saturday at Oklahoma State, national college football writer Brett McMurphy reports.
ANALYSIS
Once again, Jason Bean will be Kansas' starting quarterback Saturday. Unfortunately for Daniels, his availability status remains unchanged just a few days both after his previous injury update and before the Jayhawks play their next game at Oklahoma State.
Oct 10, 2023
Doubtful for Week 7
Daniels (back) is doubtful for Kansas' game Saturday at Oklahoma State, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels continues to deal with back-related issues that ultimately prevented him from partaking in Kansas' team practices Monday and Tuesday. Once again, Jason Bean is expected to be the Jayhawks' starting quarterback for their upcoming game Saturday.
Oct 9, 2023
Sits out Monday practice
Daniels (back) did not participate in Kansas' team practice Monday, Michael Swain of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Like last week, Daniels did not participate in Kansas' Monday practice. He ended up being classified as a game-time decision before ultimately sitting out. Ideally for Kansas, that will not happen again this week, but that seems more likely than not unless Daniels shows improvement with his injured back.
Oct 7, 2023
Unavailable Saturday
Daniels (back) is not available for Saturday's game versus UCF, national college football writer Brett McMurphy reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was already confirmed not to be starting Saturday's game, but it's now confirmed that the star signal-caller won't be available at all. Jason Bean will draw another start in his place, with Cole Ballard serving as the top backup.
Oct 5, 2023
Game-time decision, will not start
Daniels (back) is a game-time decision and will not start for Kansas' game Saturday against Central Florida, national college football writer Brett McMurphy reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels will have his game availability determined Saturday. What is confirmed is that he will not start, giving Jason Bean a third opportunity to take the reins in place of his injured teammate. Even if Daniels is good for Saturday, his upside is expected to be limited.
Oct 4, 2023
Has not done a lot in practice
Head coach Lance Leipold said Daniels (back) has not done a lot during practice this week, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels continues to be very limited during practice after missing Monday's practice completely. Daniels missed last Saturday's game at Texas and looks in danger of missing his second straight game Saturday versus Central Florida. If he is unable to go, Jason Bean will step in again.
Oct 2, 2023
Sits out Monday practice
Daniels (back) did not participate in Kansas' team practice Monday, Matt Tait of the Lawrence Journal-World reports.
ANALYSIS
Kansas' head coach Lance Leipold currently views Daniels as day-to-day. The HC basically confirmed that his starting quarterback continues to deal with back tightness. Ideally for Leipold and the Jayhawks, it will alleviate before they are expected to host Central Florida on Saturday.
Oct 1, 2023
DNP against Texas
Daniels (back) did not play during the Jayhawks' game Saturday against Texas.
ANALYSIS
According to Michael Swain of 247Sports.com, Daniels re-aggravated a back injury he suffered during September. Jason Bean was the Jayhawks' starting quarterback Saturday. He will continue to be their starter unless Daniels can recover quickly.
Sep 30, 2023
Status uncertain due to back tightness
Daniels' status for Saturday's game versus Texas is unclear due to some back tightness that popped up during warmups, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels doesn't appear slated to start the game as a result, and it's unclear if he will play in the contest at all. Jason Bean is set to start in his place, though it remains to be seen if Daniels will log any reps under center.
Sep 30, 2023
Absent from final warmups
Daniels didn't take final warmups ahead of Saturday's game versus Texas, Michael Swain of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The reason behind Daniels' absence from warmups remains unclear, but it could signal that the star quarterback is out. If so, Jason Bean would draw the start under center.
Sep 24, 2023
Three passing scores against BYU
Daniels was 14-for-19 passing for 130 yards and three touchdowns during Saturday's 38-27 win versus Brigham Young. He also had nine rushes for 54 yards.
ANALYSIS
Daniels cruised in the win over BYU as he was helped by a pair of defensive scores from the Jayhawks. In his first three games of the year, the dynamic quarterback has not been asked to do a lot. That will change next week as Kansas has an undefeated showdown with Texas.
Sep 17, 2023
Limited impact in win over Nevada
Daniels completed 21 of 27 passes for 298 yards during Saturday's 31-24 win versus Nevada. He also had seven rushes for negative four yards and a lost fumble.
ANALYSIS
Daniels had limited fantasy impact in the win as Kansas' running backs accounted for all four of the team's touchdowns. On a positive note, Daniels was poised down the stretch and helped the Jayhawks avoid an embarrassing loss at Nevada with a key drive in the fourth quarter. Don't read too much into the box score and expect Daniels to come out swinging with a big fantasy performance against BYU next week.
Sep 9, 2023
Efficient in return
Daniels was 21-for-29 passing for 277 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Friday's 34-23 win against Illinois. He also had 11 rushes for 24 yards.
ANALYSIS
Daniels picked up right where he left off last season in his return against the Fighting Illini, throwing for two touchdowns in the first quarter of Friday's 34-23 victory. The junior quarterback continued to assist the Jayhawks in moving the ball throughout the rest of the contest, completing his longest pass of the game for 48 yards to Luke Grimm right before halftime. Daniels was shaky in the fourth quarter, throwing an interception when the game was thought to have been well over, but Kansas held on for a statement victory. Daniels and the Jayhawks will face off against an 0-2 Nevada team next Saturday.
Sep 8, 2023
Expected to start Friday
Daniels (back) is expected to start in Friday's matchup with Illinois barring an unforeseen setback, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels, who was held out of the Jayhawks' opener against Missouri State due to back tightness, is expected to return and start for Kansas against the Fighting Illini. The junior quarterback led the Jayhawks to a 5-4 record as a starter last season, totaling 2,014 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and four interceptions, while adding on 425 rushing yards and seven scores on the ground. Daniels will look to propel Kansas past their first power-five opponent of the season when they take on Illinois this Friday.
Sep 7, 2023
Should play, may not start
Daniels (back) is expected to play but may not start in the Jayhawks' game Friday against Illinois, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
For the Jayhawks' upcoming game, Daniels continues to be probable. But unlike what was reported several days ago, there is a chance he may not serve as their starting quarterback if available Friday. In that case and with regards to then, Daniels' upside will be limited in favor of Jason Bean, who excelled while the former sat out Week 1.
Sep 3, 2023
Expected to play Friday
Daniels (back) is expected to play against Illinois on Friday, Brett McMurphy of WatchStadium.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite sitting out Kansas' game in Week 1, Daniels apparently needs less than a week to be available as the Jayhawks' quarterback in Week 2. It is worth noting that their head coach Lance Leipold announced Daniels as available before Week 1 before the latter ultimately sat out, so his availability should be taken with a grain of salt. Yet, Daniels is probable and will have more time to rest before the Jayhawks host Illinois.
Sep 1, 2023
Limited practice leads to sitting
Daniels (back) did not receive enough practice reps to start Friday's opener versus Missouri State, Matt Tait of the Lawrence Journal-World reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Lance Leipold said Daniels is feeling better but did not have enough reps at practice to start Friday, and the team opted to start Jason Bean instead. Daniels' availability for next Friday's matchup versus Illinois remains up in the air.
Sep 1, 2023
Not starting in season opener
Despite earlier reports indicating he was announced as the starter, Daniels (back) did not start Friday's season opener versus Missouri State, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite being announced as the starter, Daniels (back) did not start and the Jayhawks turned instead to Jason Bean. Daniels is on the sideline and in uniform, but it is unclear if he will take the field.
Sep 1, 2023
Announced as starter, may be limited
Daniels (back) has been announced as the starter for Friday's game versus Missouri State, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
While it's certainly good news that Daniels will get the start, Jason Bean was the first quarterback taking team reps in warmups, so it could be a situation where Daniels plays a limited number of snaps before giving way to Bean. At the very least, it seems Daniels will likely get the first snaps under center.
Sep 1, 2023
Warming up in uniform
Daniels (back) is warming up in uniform ahead of Friday's game versus Missouri State, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
While Daniels appears to be warming up for some role in the game, there's a question as to exactly how much we will play. Given the opponent, there's a decent chance the team will lighten Daniels' workload considerably and turn to Jason Bean for a healthy chunk of snaps.
Sep 1, 2023
Throwing in early warmups
Daniels is trowing the football in early warmups ahead of Friday's season opener versus Missouri State, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Some speculation arose earlier in the day that Daniels would not be available for the opener. While it's not a certainty he will start under center, it's a good sign that the signal-caller is throwing the football in pregame. A better picture of his status as the starter should begin to develop when the team takes the field in pads around an hour before the opening kickoff.
Aug 28, 2023
Named starting QB for Week 1
Daniels (back) will be Kansas' starting quarterback against Missouri State on Friday, Michael Swain of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The quarterback decision was made official by Kansas' head coach Lance Leipold, who announced Monday that Daniels has been able to do everything he could to be ready for Week 1. The junior QB logged 152 completions and 77 carries for 2,439 all-purpose yards (2,014 passing and 425 rushing) across his nine games played during 2022. Daniels easily broke out that year and will look to continue that excellence in 2023.
Aug 23, 2023
Doing more work in practice
Daniels (back) continues to progress in his rehab and is doing more and more each day, head coach Lance Leipold told reporters Wednesday, including Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal.
ANALYSIS
Daniels didn't dive deep into the injury affecting the signal-caller, but he said he should ramp up his activity at some point next week. It remains to be seen if he'll be available for the season opener against Missouri State on Sep. 1, but it seems he continues to trend in the right direction.
Aug 16, 2023
Back injury still minor concern
Daniels (back) is not practicing at the moment but hopes to get back this weekend, Matt Tait of the Lawrence Journal-World reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels sat out Kansas' Aug. 7 practice with back tightness. While he did recover in time to practice on Aug. 8, it appears the back tightness has had more of a lasting effect despite his immediate return from injury. But with the Jayhawks' football program believing Daniels could practice again Saturday or Sunday, his availability status is still probable for their Sept. 1 opener against Missouri State.
Aug 8, 2023
Practice participant Tuesday
Daniels (back) was seen practicing Tuesday, Jon Kirby of Rivals.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It appears the back tightness he experienced Monday was a one-time problem, as Daniels was seen able to make multiple throws without any visible problems. Once again, the 2023 Jayhawks have their No. 1 quarterback ready to play and excel again, as he did during 2022. Daniels broke out with 152 completions for 18 touchdowns and more than 2,000 yards across his nine games that year.
Aug 7, 2023
Misses practice with back tightness
Daniels sat out Kansas' team practice Monday because of back tightness, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was at Kansas' practice Monday but did not take any reps. It appears to be a relatively minor injury, one that will not be damaging enough to prevent him from returning to fall camp and playing when the Jayhawks begin their 2023 season to open September.
Nov 28, 2022
Rushing score in loss to Wildcats
Daniels was 20-for-32 passing for 168 yards during Saturday's 47-27 defeat to Kansas State. He also had eight rushes for 51 yards with one touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was able to get back to his dual-threat profile with his sixth rushing score of the season, but was not able to add any scores through the air. Daniels and the Jayhawks will prepare to play in a bowl game, something they have not done in a very long time.
Nov 20, 2022
Returns with two touchdowns
Daniels was 17-for-26 passing for 230 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 55-14 defeat versus Texas.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was able to return to the line-up for the first time since Week 6 against TCU and was able to add a couple of passing scores. He logged a season-low two rushing attempts which likely had more to do with game flow as Kansas was losing 31-0 at halftime. Jason Bean played just three snaps and completed a single pass for 12 yards, so it appears that Kansas is comfortable with Daniels back in the starting position. Kansas will play a rivalry game at Kansas State next week.
Nov 19, 2022
Starting Saturday
Daniels will start Saturday against Texas, Brett McMurphy of WatchStadium.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite warming with the third-team early in pregame, Daniels will get the start for the Jayhawks.
Nov 19, 2022
Warms with third-team offense
Daniels (shoulder) was working with the third-team offense in warmups, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels appears to be available but Kansas is unlikely to start him. Ethan Vasko has been working with the starting unit.
Nov 19, 2022
In uniform, warming up
Daniels (shoulder) is in uniform and warming up ahead of Saturday's game against Texas, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
It was reported earlier Saturday that Daniels would be a game-time decision, and now with kickoff approaching, the star quarterback is testing things out in warmups. It remains to be seen whether Kansas will officially announce Daniels as the starter, but there appears to be a better chance that he plays Saturday than other instances in which he's dressed out since injuring his shoulder.
Nov 19, 2022
Game-time call Saturday
Daniels (shoulder) is a game-time decision Saturday against Texas,Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Thamel, Daniels has increased his practice participation this week. Daniels has gotten close to a return in recent weeks and has suited up and warmed up during Kansas' other November games. Another update on Daniels figures to be available when the Jayhawks hit the field for warmups this afternoon.
Nov 14, 2022
Looking at Week 12 return
Head coach Lance Leipold said Monday that Daniels (shoulder) has been "taking more and more reps. He went today. He's at the point where he could play at a level that's going to allow him to play freely," Matt Tait of the Lawrence Journal-World reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels has missed each of Kansas' last four games as a result of a shoulder issue, though he was able to warm up with the team prior to Saturday's matchup versus Texas Tech. Based on Leipold's comments, it sounds like the junior quarterback is ready to return and start in the Jayhawks' Week 12 contest against Texas, but his status is still worth monitoring throughout the week.
Nov 12, 2022
Not starting Saturday
Daniels (shoulder) will not start Saturday's game against Texas Tech but has not been ruled out, Michael Swain of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was seen going through warmups ahead of Saturday's kickoff, but Jason Bean will get the start over him once again. There is no indication yet as to whether Daniels is available or not as a backup.
Nov 5, 2022
Working with backups
Daniels (shoulder) is working with the third-team offense ahead of Saturday's game against Oklahoma State, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels' presence with the third-team suggests that he's only available on an emergency basis Saturday. Jason Bean will get another start. Daniels could be closing in on regaining the starting role in the near future, however.
Nov 5, 2022
Will not start, could be available
Daniels (shoulder) could be available Saturday but Jason Bean will start against Oklahoma State, Brett McMurphy of WatchStadium.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels is getting close to returning from his shoulder injury but is not yet ready to reclaim the starting role. The star quarterback will test things out in warmups and his availability will be determined thereafter. Jason Bean will be at the helm but Daniels could see snaps if his shoulder is ready to go.
Oct 22, 2022
Seen in uniform, warming up
Daniels (shoulder) is in uniform and warming up ahead of Saturday's game against Baylor, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal
ANALYSIS
This is a surprise given the expectation that Daniels would not be ready for a return until after the bye. It's unclear whether Daniels will indeed play Saturday, but he is nearing a return by all indications. Jason Bean remains likely to start barring a shakeup at kickoff.
Oct 15, 2022
Out Saturday, eyeing November return
Daniels (shoulder) will not play Saturday and is considered week-to-week with an earliest potential return date set for Nov. 5 against Oklahoma State, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jason Bean is set to take over for the Jayhawks on Saturday in Daniels' stead. There have been conflicting reports regarding Daniels' shoulder injury and whether it would be season-ending. Kansas will continue to evaluate as the season progresses but as it stands, November appears to be the earliest time that the star quarterback could return.
Oct 11, 2022
Shut down for season
Daniels is expected to be out for the rest of the season, Zac Boyer of the Lawrence Journal-World reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was having a tremendous season, leading the Jayhawks to a 5-1 record and throwing for 1,072 yards, 11 touchdowns and one interception. He had also racked up 335 yards rushing to go along with five scores on the ground. In his place, Jason Bean will take over at quarterback.
Oct 11, 2022
Considered doubtful for Saturday
Kansas head coach Lance Leipold said Daniels (shoulder) didn't practice Tuesday and is considered "doubtful" for Saturday's matchup against Oklahoma, Matt Tait of the Lawrence Journal-World reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels suffered a shoulder injury just before halftime of Saturday's matchup against Missouri and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. He appears he's trending towards another absence, so Jason Bean figures to get the start at quarterback against the Sooners.
Oct 8, 2022
Out for remainder of game
Daniels (shoulder) is out for the rest of Saturday's game versus Missouri and is in street clothes, Michael Swain of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels sustained a shoulder injury just before halftime Saturday. After being ruled out for the rest of the game, Jason Bean has taken over at quarterback.
Oct 8, 2022
Heads to locker room
Daniels (shoulder) entered the locker room after sustaining an obvious shoulder injury, Brett McMurphy of WatchStadium.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels went down on the sideline with just over a minute left in the first half after sustaining an apparent shoulder injury. The junior quarterback entered the locker room just before half and it is unclear if he will take the field to start the second half. Daniels was 5-of-10 for 89 passing yards with 11 rushing yards prior to exiting the game. If he is unable to suit up, we would likely see Jason Bean to start the second.
Oct 1, 2022
Rushing score against Cyclones
Daniels went 7-for-14 for 93 yards while rushing for nine yards and a touchdown on eight carries in Saturday's 14-11 win over Iowa State.
ANALYSIS
Daniels added a rushing touchdown in his third straight game which saved the day from a fantasy perspective as it was his worst passing performance of the year. Iowa State did a good job of taking away the Kansas receivers and the Jayhawks were forced to win the game on defense. The offense should return next week when Kansas takes on TCU in a match-up between undefeated teams.
Sep 24, 2022
Masterful in front of sellout crowd
Daniels completed 19 of 23 passes for 324 yards and four touchdowns to go along with 11 rushes for 83 yards and another score in Saturday's 35-27 win over Duke.
ANALYSIS
Daniels has the Jayhawks out to their first 4-0 start since 2009 and the four passing scores were a career-high. He's now posted back-to-back monster fantasy performances and could be the most underrated quarterback in the country. The dual-threat talent has at least 11 carries in each of his last three games and already has four rushing scores to go along with his 11 touchdown tosses. There's absolutely no reason to take Daniels out of the line-up against Iowa State next week.
Sep 18, 2022
Five TDs in surprising win
Daniels completed 14 of 23 passes for 158 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 123 yards and two scores on 12 carries in Saturday's 48-30 win at Houston.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was spectacular in the surprising win over the Cougars and it's no longer time to avoid Jayhawks in your fantasy line-up. Fantasy managers can start with Kansas' quarterback who is a true dual-threat option and already has 237 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries. He's also been fantastic through the air with seven touchdowns versus just one interception. It's not probable that Kansas will be able to do this against the average Big 12 opponent, but don't even worry about that yet as they host Duke in their last non-conference game next week.
Sep 10, 2022
Delivers against Mountaineers
Daniels completed 17 of 28 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns with 11 carries for 82 yards in Saturday's 55-42 win at West Virginia.
ANALYSIS
Daniels has the Jayhawks rolling with four total touchdowns against just one turnover through the first two games. In the overtime win against West Virginia, he led Kansas in rushing and appears to have a stronghold on the starting job. Kansas will look to improve on their perfect 2-0 record at Houston next week.
Sep 3, 2022
Two scores against Tennessee Tech
Daniels completed 15 of 18 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown with an interception to go with 29 yards and a score on three carries in Friday's 56-10 win over Tennessee Tech.
ANALYSIS
Daniels showed his dual-threat ability and why coach Lance Leipold went with the junior as the starter. He'll have a much tougher test at West Virginia next week.
Aug 29, 2022
Wins starting job
Daniels will start in Friday's season-opener against Tennessee Tech, Michael Swain of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels has secured the starting role ahead of Friday's season-opener. The 6-foot junior appeared in six games last season, throwing for 860 yards (81-of-117), seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Daniels will look to get off to a fast start in 2022 against Tennessee Tech.
Nov 28, 2021
Mixed results against WVU
Daniels completed 22 of 32 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions to go along with nine yards and a score on 12 carries in Saturday's 34-28 loss to West Virginia.
ANALYSIS
Daniels ended the regular season with a rushing score in three straight games to go along with six passing touchdowns and three interceptions over that span. The sophomore has put together a nice case to be considered for the starting job next season as Kansas won a rare conference game at Texas and competed in losses to TCU and West Virginia with Daniels at quarterback.
Nov 22, 2021
Listed as starter over Bean
Daniels is listed as the starting quarterback on this week's depth chart, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels is coming off a solid game against TCU where he threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns, while adding another score on the ground. Jason Bean is listed as the backup now and it looks like Daniels should be the guy heading into the finale.
Nov 20, 2021
Three scores in close loss at TCU
Daniels completed 22 of 30 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns with an interception to go along with 37 yards and a score on six carries in Saturday's 31-28 loss at TCU.
ANALYSIS
Daniels decided to burn his redshirt season with the start and for good reason as he's racked up seven total touchdowns in the Jayhawks' last two games. He could be a sneaky start against West Virginia to end the season and an interesting candidate for the starting job in 2022 and beyond.
Nov 17, 2021
Will burn redshirt
Daniels has elected to shed his redshirt for this season and continue playing, The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels led the Jayhawks into Austin and was able to take down Texas in overtime. He scored four total touchdowns in the contest and wants to ride the momentum into the final two games of the season. Daniels still has two more years of eligibility left and could qualify for one more year after that due to COVID-19.
Nov 13, 2021
Four scores in wild win over Texas
Daniels completed 21 of 30 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 45 yards and a score on 11 carries in Saturday's 57-56 win at Texas.
ANALYSIS
Daniels and the Jayhawks pulled off a thrilling overtime win against the Longhorns. Kansas now has an interesting decision on whether playing Daniels in their final two games as he was a candidate to take a redshirt season. It could be Daniels or Jason Bean at starting quarterback at TCU next week.
Nov 13, 2021
Getting start Saturday
Daniels will start at quarterback in Saturday's game against Texas, Jesse Newell of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels and Jason Bean were seen splitting first-team reps during warmups but Daniels will ultimately get start. Bean was initially a game-time decision after exiting last week against Kansas State with an undisclosed injury and could still be limited, despite dressing and taking part in warmups. Daniels saw his first action last week since Week 3 and completed 13-of-19 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in relief of Bean.

Splitting first team reps
Daniels and Jason Bean are both warming up with the first-team offense ahead of Saturday's game against Texas, Jordan Guskey of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels got some extended playing time last week after Bean exited early with an injury. Bean is in uniform and should be available to start but it seems like Daniels could also get some opportunities, especially if Bean appears limited at all.

Plays more than expected
Daniels completed 13 of 19 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 35-10 loss to Kansas State.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was forced to enter the game after both Jason Bean and Miles Kendrick were knocked out with injuries. Daniels was able to add his first touchdown pass of the season as he had not seen any action since nine snaps in Week 3 against Baylor. If Bean and Kendrick are not ready to go next week, Daniels may play at Texas.

No longer a co-starter
The Jayhawks announced Friday that Jason Bean will be their starting quarterback for the season opener against South Dakota.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was initially listed as a co-starter with Jason Beane and Miles Kendrick for Friday's 2021 opener but now the team appears to solely favor Bean as their top guy under center to begin the new campaign. Daniels appeared in seven games last season as a freshman and completed 50 percent of his passes for 718 yards with a touchdown and four interceptions. It's likely he'll take on a smaller role this season unless injuries occur to the guys ahead of him.

Active Saturday
Daniels (ankle) is officially active for Saturday's game versus TCU, Benton Smith of the Lawrence Journal-World reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels took part in practice earlier this week and seemed to be on track for Saturday's contest. There hasn't been a mention of who will start under center for the Jayhawks, but Daniels may be in the mix thanks to extra time off due to a cancelation.
Nov 24, 2020
Practicing, on track for Saturday
Daniels (ankle) has been practicing and is on track to be available against TCU, Benton Smith of KU Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels was injured against Oklahoma in Kansas' last game but has had additional time to heal after last week's cancellation. "He practiced all last week. He'll practice this week. We'd expect him to certainly be a player," coach Les Miles said. Daniels' progress will be monitored throughout the week but he is trending in the right direction.

Still healing from injury
Coach Les Miles said that Daniels (ankle) is still healing and has not returned to practice yet, Matt Tait of the Lawrence Journal-World reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite not being able to return to practice during the off week, it sounds like coach Miles feels confident that Daniels will be available, though he declined to answer who he thought the starter might be. We will likely have to wait till the end of the week to get a better sense on Daniels' status for Saturday's matchup against Texas.

Will practice during off week
Coach Les Miles will practice during the off week and prepare to play on Nov. 21 against Texas, Scott Chasen of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels suffered a left ankle injury at the end of last weekend's game. Miles didn't sound too concerned about his quarterback. We should have a better idea of how his recovery is going by this time next week. Consider him questionable at this time to suit up against the Longhorns.

Knocked out of game
Daniels left Saturday's game against Oklahoma after suffering a leg injury, Matt Galloway of The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniels took a beating Saturday, taking nine sacks over the course of the game. He took a hit during the fourth quarter that sent him to the sidelines for the remainder of the game, where he was spotted with a noticeable limp. Miles Kendrick will take over at quarterback for the rest of the contest. It remains to be seen if Daniels will miss additional time, but with the team off next Saturday, he'll have an extra week to rest up before the Jayhawks retake the field Nov. 21 against Texas.

Rushing score on 18th Birthday
Daniels completed 16 of 29 passes for 165 yards with an interception to go along with 36 yards and a touchdown on 16 rushing attempts in Saturday's 52-22 loss to Iowa State.
ANALYSIS
It's hard to believe Daniels played in four games before his 18th birthday, but the true freshman is gaining all the experience he can handle with the Jayhawks. The dual-threat quarterback has three rushing scores in his last two games to go along with two interceptions and no touchdowns through the air. Kansas is expected to give their youngster another start at Oklahoma next week.
Oct 26, 2020
Expected to start going forward
Daniels is expected to start going forward according to coach Les Miles, Benton Smith of KUSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miles said if Daniels can stay healthy that he will likely be the guy that starts and added he could be special once he gets some experience. The coaching staff seems to really like what Daniels can bring to the table, so expect him to get plenty of opportunities in another lost season for the Jayhawks.

Two rushing scores in blowout loss
Daniels completed 22 of 39 passes for 207 yards with an interception to go along with 17 carries for 27 yards and two rushing scores in Saturday's 55-14 loss at Kansas State.
ANALYSIS
Daniels made the start in place of Miles Kendrick and ended up with a team-high 17 carries. While he did have the two scores and a decent amount of volume on the ground, he averaged just 1.6 yards per carry. The quarterback had marginal success through the air as Kansas fought from behind nearly the entire game. Kansas will host Iowa State next week.

Sep 26, 2020
Not much success in first start
Daniels completed 19 of 33 passes for 159 yards while rushing for 23 yards on 14 carries in Saturday's 47-14 loss at Baylor.
ANALYSIS
It was a tough night for the true freshman as he was only able to complete 57.6 percent of his passes and didn't find much room in the running game. Kansas will continue to look for answers on the offensive end when they play Oklahoma State next week.
