If you read yesterday’s article, I acknowledged that the Mariners’ offense is atrocious. Well, last night, the Mariners added no runs and lost 3-0. Seattle might have more power against lefties, but the lineup still strikes out at an above-average rate overall.
They’ll take on Framber Valdez of the Astros, who has limited teams to a .103 ISO over the last month. He’s also induced 59.2% of ground balls and has allowed just 12.7% of fly balls. Additionally, Valdez has rallied 24.8% of strikeouts in the last month, which is way above his usual average.
He’s starting to show signs of getting back to his old self.
Houston Has a Slight Advantage
The Mariners will throw George Kirby. He’s a righty with a 3.29 ERA on the season. He’s also held opponents to a .088 ISO and wOBA of .249 over the last 30 days.
Kirby is great, but he’ll still have to face a problematic Astros lineup with seven batters hitting a wOBA of at least .314.
