Our computers project this to be a low-scoring game, and I agree. Accordingly, I recommend investing in the Under.

The Total Feels Extremely High

My main issue with the total posted by oddsmakers is that it is so high that one of two things will need to happen for the Over to hit.

One, Indiana will need to score an absurdly high number of points. The Pacers average 122 points, but, as I will explain, they will need to score way more than that.

Two, Atlanta will need to reach a respectable point total, which they won’t do.

Atlanta’s Offense

In order to score enough points to give the Over a chance, the Hawks are going to need to succeed from deep.

They are one of the least efficient teams within five feet of the basket and won’t improve in this respect today against a very much improved Indiana defense that features shot-blocker Myles Turner and depth inside.

The Hawks do like to attempt threes. They attempt the seventh-most threes per game.

Indiana’s Defense

The Pacers match up well against Atlanta’s offense because they rank among league leaders at limiting opposing three-point attempts and preventing teams from attempting open or wide-open three-point attempts.

They excel at running teams off the three-point line and at contesting opposing three-point attempts.

Indiana’s Offense

Indiana will breeze to victory today because the Hawks’ offense will not push its offense to score many points.

I foresee the Pacers resting their top scorers in a blowout-type game, but even if the game is closer it just isn’t reasonable to expect Indiana to score the number of points above its scoring average that it will need to for the “over” to hit.
