Paul

VS

TYSON

  • When: November 15, 2024
  • Time: 08:00 PM ET
  • Where: AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas
  • How to Watch: Netflix

It was announced on April 29 that this will be a sanctioned, professional fight by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations. This means that the result will go on their professional records.

The bout will be eight rounds of two minutes each and the fighters will use 14-ounce gloves.

This will be the first time in two decades that Iron Mike has a professional fight and the 31-year gap between him and Paul will set a new record. Previously, Archie Moore (49) fought Mike DiBiase (25) in 1963. Fun fact, Moore won that fight with a third-round TKO.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Betting preview

Anything can happen inside the squared circle. That’s why we bet on boxing, and that’s why we have boxing odds for the big November 15 fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. Paul is the favorite on the Vegas strip and at the online sportsbooks, but enough people believe in Tyson to make him a +225 underdog, which implies a 30.8% chance of victory for Iron Mike.

Tyson’s actual chances of winning are almost certainly much smaller. But despite his former bad-boy reputation, Tyson is the babyface in this matchup, while Paul has made a career out of playing the heel – much like his brother Logan, the former WWE United States champion. You’ll have to pay a premium if you want to bet on Mike Tyson, and against Jake Paul.

There’s at least one way you can cheer for Tyson and maybe make a sharp bet. Paul says he’ll give Tyson $5 million if he can make it past the fourth round; there’s a total of 5.5 rounds on the boxing lines in Vegas, with the Over at -150. If he accepts, Tyson will have $5 million reasons to make it to Round 5, and since these rounds are only two minutes, the former champ will only have to last another 61 seconds to cash in that Over.

Will Paul Knock Tyson Out?

He says that’s his goal for November 15 – that, and to earn $40 million. Early estimates for Tyson vs. Paul when this bout was first scheduled for July 20 had Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (founded by Jake Paul and former UFC CFO Nakisa Bidarian in 2021) anticipating $61 million in revenue when this fight was being put together in 2022; rumor has it Tyson will receive about $20 million.

Tyson made $10 million fighting former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr. to an 8-round split draw back in 2020, but don’t read too much into that result – this was an exhibition match, and the judges were also former champions: Chad Dawson (76–76 draw), Christy Martin (79–73 Tyson), and Vinny Pazienza (76–80 Jones).

The important figure is the $10 million, which is believed to be Tyson’s entire net worth at this point. In February 2023, Forbes estimated Paul’s net worth at $38 million. That $5 mil isn’t chump change to either fighter, but it means significantly more to Tyson.

Is Paul Serious About the $5 Million?

Maybe not. Paul isn’t just offering the money straight out of his pocket; it’s part of a proposition bet, where Tyson – if he accepts the bet – has to get a tattoo that says “I love Jake Paul” if he fails to make it past four rounds.

We didn’t hear much from the Tyson camp after Paul threw down the gauntlet – until just now at press time, with Tyson telling USA Today Sports that Paul needs to up his offer from five to “about 20” million.

Tyson also said he expects Paul to avoid him for the first couple of rounds when they finally do touch gloves at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Tyson fans hoping for an early knockout by the 58-year-old won’t be happy to hear that, but if you’re taking Over 5.5 rounds, it’s music to your ears.

So will Tyson telling USA Today that he’s been sparring 6-7 rounds per session to prepare for November 15. “I am right here live and I can see his arms up,” businessman and fellow guest David Cynamon said Thursday. “I’m betting on him when I leave this room.

Mike Tyson Is Back!

When Tyson was at the top of his game, he was a formidable heavyweight fighter and a global icon of dread. However, he is almost 60 years old, Paul’s senior, and hasn’t fought professionally since 2005.

The aforementioned factors have placed ‘Iron’ Mike as the betting underdog.

The training footage of Tyson will undoubtedly give hope to his supporters and Paul’s haters, but are we grasping onto a time in the past that no longer exists?

Jake Paul Has An Edge

Paul is taller than Tyson. He is 6 feet and 1 inch tall, and his arm span is 76 inches. Tyson’s height is 5 feet 10 inches and his arm span is 71 inches.

This may not be a challenge for Tyson, though, since almost all of his adversaries during his heyday were taller than him, with the exception of one. He had a remarkable record of 56 wins and just six losses.

Tyson’s age, however, is his primary problem heading into this contest and is likely the main factor driving the betting odds to side with Paul.
