NFL Odds for Week 9: Oct 30-Nov 5

Drake Thomas #42, Leonard Williams #99 and Ty Okada #39 of the Seattle Seahawks react against the Houston Texans.

It might seem like we’re coming off one of those Any Given Sundays – the Miami Dolphins (+310) and New York Jets (+235) actually won straight-up for a change. But that was it for the crazy. Favorites swept the other nine games SU and ATS, and the Over went 8-1-2 in what was a very profitable Week 8 for the betting public.

Will it last? Let’s take a closer look at the live NFL odds; Week 9 has just four teams taking the bye instead of six, so we’ll have one more game to choose from when we make our football picks.

NFL Odds Week 9 At-a-Glance

As fate would have it, our top three marquee matchups on this week’s NFL betting lines all take place this Sunday – note the start times, as most of us in North America turn the clocks back from Daylight Saving to Standard at 2:00 a.m.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Detroit Lions (DET -8.5)

Sunday, November 2 – 1:00 PM EST

It’s the only divisional rivalry on the docket, but it’s a big one; there isn’t much separation in the NFC North between the last-place Vikings (3-4 SU and ATS) and the Lions (5-2 SU and ATS) in second, at least not in the standings. The onus is on Minnesota to prove they belong now that QB J.J. McCarthy is expected to return from his high-ankle sprain after a five-game layoff.

At these odds, the sharps are willing to give the Vikes a spin. Reports suggest some big money has landed on Detroit, driving the Lions up from -4.5 at the open, but the wiseguys see the value in Minnesota as a big underdog coming off an embarrassing 37-10 loss to the L.A. Chargers (-3 at home) on Thursday Night Football.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills (BUF +1.5)

Sunday, November 2 – 4:25 PM EST

While the Vikings enjoy the rest advantage in their matchup, Kansas City (5-3 SU and ATS) will be playing on a short week after beating the Washington Commanders 28-7 as 10.5-point home faves on Monday Night Football. Despite this disadvantage, Buffalo (5-2 SU, 3-4 ATS) has drifted from -2.5 at the open to +1.5 for their Week 9 battle at Orchard Park.

Beating the Carolina Panthers (+7.5 at home) 40-9 this past Sunday wasn’t enough to impress the sharps. They’ve put enough early money on Kansas City to flip their football odds from underdog to favorite; we’ve seen even bigger bets reported on K.C. to win straight-up, driving their moneyline from +130 at the open to -120 at press time.

Seattle Seahawks vs. Washington Commanders (WAS +3)

Sunday, November 2 – 8:20 PM EST

Not only do the Commanders (3-5 SU and ATS) have to make the short turnaround after Monday’s loss to Kansas City, but they also have to play the NFC West-leading Seahawks (5-2 SU and ATS), who happened to take their bye in Week 8.

Reports of sharp Seattle action have surfaced, although some of that money may have come in before the “official” open at -3; interestingly enough, we’re seeing sharp interest in Under 46 while the big bets are rolling in on Over 46, enough to keep Sunday night’s total in stasis – although some online sportsbooks have the over/under at 45.5 points.
