Ohio State opens as the favorite to win the national championship at +575, narrowly ahead of Texas (+600) and Notre Dame (+650). The Buckeyes return quarterback Julian Sayin and superstar receiver Jeremiah Smith, while Texas has Arch Manning emerging as one of the best quarterbacks in the country after another productive offseason under Steve Sarkisian. Notre Dame remains firmly in the title conversation after last season’s deep playoff run and enters the year with one of the nation’s most balanced rosters.

Just behind the top three, Oregon (+750) stands out as the best value among the favorites. Dante Moore takes over a loaded Ducks team built by Dan Lanning, while Indiana (+800) looks to defend last year’s national championship. Georgia (+850) and Miami (+900) round out the top tier, with both programs possessing the talent to make another College Football Playoff run.

Further down the board, LSU (+1800) headlines the sleeper contenders after an aggressive offseason under head coach Lane Kiffin. Ole Miss (+2200), Texas A&M (+2200), and Texas Tech (+2200) each have enough firepower to challenge for a playoff berth if things break their way. Alabama (+2500) and Oklahoma (+2500) offer intriguing value despite entering the season with more questions than usual, while USC (+3300) could be one of the best longshot bets thanks to quarterback Jayden Maiava and a much-improved defense under Gary Patterson.

2026 College Football National Championship Favorites

I have my eye on three favorites to win the national championship.

Ohio State (+575)

Ohio State enters the season as the favorite for a reason. The Buckeyes return quarterback Julian Sayin, who emerged as one of the nation’s most efficient passers last season, while superstar receiver Jeremiah Smith gives them arguably the best offensive player in college football. Ryan Day has reloaded the roster once again, and the expectation is another deep College Football Playoff run. The biggest concern is value. 

At +575, you’re paying a premium for the favorite. Ohio State is good enough to win it all, but there are better prices elsewhere on the board.

Texas (+600)

Texas once again has the talent to compete for a national championship, led by Arch Manning, who enters the season as one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. Manning took a major step forward last season and now has another year of experience running Steve Sarkisian’s offense. The Longhorns are loaded on both sides of the ball, particularly in the trenches, and should have one of the nation’s highest ceilings. 

With that said, +600 feels a bit short for a team that still has to navigate a brutal SEC schedule before surviving the College Football Playoff. Texas is a legitimate contender, but the odds don’t leave much room for error.

Oregon (+750)

Of the favorites, Oregon offers the best value. The Ducks return quarterback Dante Moore, one of the nation’s elite signal-callers, and continue to recruit at an elite level on both sides of the ball. Dan Lanning has built one of college football’s deepest rosters, with the size, speed, and physicality needed to win multiple playoff games. Oregon has consistently been on the doorstep of a national title, and this looks like its best opportunity yet to finish the job. 

At +750, you’re getting a team with championship-caliber talent at a better number than Ohio State or Texas, making the Ducks my favorite futures bet among the top contenders.

2026 College Football National Championship Sleepers

I’ve nailed down three college football sleepers at +1500 odds or longer.

LSU (+1800)

LSU has the talent to make a serious run in Lane Kiffin’s first season. Kiffin attacked the transfer portal, landing quarterback Sam Leavitt, left tackle Jordan Seaton, and several impact receivers to completely reshape the offense. Harlem Berry and Caden Durham give the Tigers one of the nation’s deepest backfields, while Trey’Dez Green is among the top tight ends in college football. 

The biggest question is whether a roster with so many new faces can develop chemistry quickly enough to survive the SEC. If it does, +1800 is an attractive number for a team with legitimate College Football Playoff upside.

Alabama (+2500)

Alabama is flying under the radar compared to recent seasons, and that’s exactly why +2500 stands out. Kalen DeBoer has quietly assembled another roster loaded with blue-chip talent, particularly on defense, while continuing to recruit at an elite level. The biggest storyline is whether Alabama can find consistent quarterback play, but the Crimson Tide have enough talent across the roster to stay in every game regardless. 

With one of the nation’s best defensive fronts and another top-five recruiting foundation, Alabama has a higher ceiling than its odds suggest. If the offense comes together early, the Tide could easily outperform this price and return to the College Football Playoff.

2026 College Football Longshots

I have one college football longshot that I’m targeting, priced at longer than +3000 odds.

USC (+3300)

USC is one of my favorite value plays on the board at +3300. Lincoln Riley enters arguably his biggest season in Los Angeles with what may be his most complete roster since arriving at USC. Quarterback Jayden Maiava is coming off a breakout season after throwing for 3,711 yards and 24 touchdowns while leading the nation in QBR, giving the Trojans one of the country’s most explosive offenses. 

The defense should also take another step forward under new defensive coordinator Gary Patterson, who inherits a unit with far more talent and experience than in previous years. USC also returns 17 starters and the Big Ten’s most experienced offensive line. At +3300, I love the value on a team that has the talent to contend for a College Football Playoff berth if the defense continues to improve.
