Riding pine in finale
Benintendi is not in Sunday's lineup against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
The White Sox are resting several regulars on the final day of the season, and Tyler Naquin will be patrolling left field. Benintendi's contract should lock him in to a sizable role next season, but he ended up being a replacement-level player (0.0 fWAR) over 151 games in the first year of a five-year, $75 million deal.
Sep 22, 2023
Sitting versus lefty
Benintendi is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Boston.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox are starting southpaw Chris Sale, so the left-handed hitting Benintendi will begin this one on the bench. Zach Remillard will be in left field for the White Sox.

Not starting nightcap
Benintendi isn't in the White Sox's lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Kansas City, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi went 0-for-3 with a walk and came around to score in the first game of Tuesday's slate, and he'll be replaced in left field by Trayce Thompson for the second half of the twin bill.
Aug 27, 2023
Suddenly finding power
Benintendi went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Saturday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi managed only two home runs across his first 117 games with the White Sox, but he now has three homers across his last five starts. He's hit particularly well of late, as he has at least one hit in 10 of his last 12 games while maintaining a .333 average with seven RBI and nine runs scored in that span. Benintendi's performance remains underwhelming overall, though his recent surge has pushed his OPS over .700 for the season.
Aug 25, 2023
Swats homer in loss
Benintendi went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run and an additional RBI in a loss to the Athletics on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi got Chicago off to a quick start with his solo shot to right field in the first inning, and he added a run-scoring single in the fifth. The outfielder has surprised by going deep twice in his past three games after hitting just two home runs over his first 117 contests of the campaign. Benintendi is in the mist of a six-game hitting streak, during which he's slashing .435/.458/.739 with the two homers, five RBI, five runs and a stolen base.
Aug 23, 2023
Idle Wednesday
Benintendi is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi will get a breather for the matinee game after he started in every contest for the White Sox dating back to Aug. 7. He served as the White Sox's leadoff hitter in Tuesday's 6-3 loss, but Benintendi will cede those duties Wednesday to shortstop Tim Anderson, who is back in action after completing his five-game suspension.
Aug 20, 2023
Three hits, steal in win
Benintendi went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Sunday's 10-5 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has managed three multi-hit efforts over 17 games this month, batting .222 (14-for-63) with three doubles and no home runs in that span. The steal was also his first since July 26. The light-hitting outfielder is slashing .272/.337/.352 with two homers, 13 steals, 33 RBI and 59 runs scored over 116 contests this season.
Aug 6, 2023
On bench Sunday
Benintendi is Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times for Sunday's game at Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi started the past six games but will take a seat Sunday despite the fact a right-hander (Xzavion Curry) is pitching for the Guardians. Trayce Thompson will start in left field and bat sixth in the series finale.
Jul 29, 2023
Sitting against lefty
Benintendi is not in Saturday's lineup against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
This is Benintendi's first day off since he missed a couple games on July 8 and July 9 with a wrist issue, and he has started twice against lefties over his span of 13 straight starts. Zach Remillard will start in left field and bat ninth against southpaw Logan Allen.
Jul 27, 2023
Records 12th steal
Benintendi went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's 10-7 loss to the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has enjoyed a steady July, batting .270 (20-for-74) with a home run, eight RBI, three steals and 13 runs scored over 17 contests. He continues to occupy the leadoff spot for the White Sox, though the lineup behind him is far from a potent one. Benintendi is slashing .284/.348/.372 with two homers, 29 RBI, 51 runs scored and 12 steals over 96 games.
Jul 22, 2023
Slugs second homer
Benintendi went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Friday against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi led the game off with a home run, his second long ball of the season. He has hit well coming out of the All-Star break, managing 12 knocks across 32 at-bats with six RBI and eight runs scored. As his homer total applies, Benintendi hasn't hit for much power, but he has his most stolen bases since 2018 and is on pace to post his highest run total in the same span.
Jul 19, 2023
Swipes bag No. 10
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with two walks, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 11-10 loss to the Mets.
ANALYSIS
The veteran outfielder set the table for the White Sox in outstanding fashion, but Lucas Giolito and the Chicago bullpen dug a hole the offense couldn't quite escape. Benintendi is up to 10 steals on the season, the first time he's reached double digits since 2019, and after three straight multi-hit performances he sports a .331/.405/.423 slash line since the beginning of June with one homer, 15 RBI and 20 runs in 35 games.
Jul 16, 2023
Productive out of leadoff spot
Benintendi went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and three RBI in a 6-5 win over Atlanta on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi set the table well from atop the order, and he came through in key moments with three separate run-producing hits. While the veteran outfielder has gone deep just once this season, he's made a positive offensive impact with a .285/.349/.375 slash line, 42 runs, 26 RBI and nine steals over 87 games. Benintendi has hit especially well of late, batting .341 (29-for-85) over his past 21 contests.
Jul 14, 2023
Returns to lineup Friday
Benintendi (wrist) is starting in left field and batting leadoff in his return to the lineup Friday in Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi didn't play Sunday's first-half finale due to a right wrist problem which has evidently bothered him throughout the season. He's prepared to resume playing through the issue as the White Sox kick off the second half.
Jul 9, 2023
Managing wrist issue
Benintendi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to a lingering wrist injury, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi, who also sat out Saturday's 3-0 loss, will get some extra time to manage the wrist issue, which manager Pedro Grifol said is something that has bothered the outfielder all season. According to Grifol, the White Sox don't view the injury as anything that will sideline Benintendi beyond the All-Star break, as the 29-year-old is expected to be back in action for the White Sox's first game of the second half Friday in Atlanta. Benintendi has been a disappointment in the first season of his five-year, $75 million deal with Chicago, as he's batting an excellent .280 but has provided just one home run in 350 plate appearances on the campaign.
Jul 8, 2023
Heads to bench
Benintendi will be on the bench Saturday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi's first season in Chicago hasn't gone as planned, as he's homered just once while slashing .280/.347/.369, good for a sub-par 98 wRC+. Gavin Sheets will get the start in left field in his absence.
Jul 1, 2023
Excelling in leadoff role
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, a run scored and a walk Friday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has served as the White Sox's primary leadoff hitter since June 17, and he's excelled in the role. Across 13 games, he's hit .392 with a .436 on-base percentage while also chipping in five runs scored and four RBI. Benintendi has only one home run and a .094 ISO for the season, but he should have the chance to maintain a strong batting average while racking up runs and stolen bases moving forward.
Jun 29, 2023
On bench Thursday
Benintendi is out of the lineup Thursday versus the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Chicago is deploying a righty-heavy batting order with left-hander Patrick Sandoval set to take the mound for the Halos. Clint Frazier, Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez will start across the outfield.
Jun 18, 2023
Reaches base five times
Benintendi went 4-for-5 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run Saturday against the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi entered Saturday's game with only two multi-hit performances across the last 30 days and 26 contests. In addition to lessening that drought, he swiped his second base in his last three games. Benintendi now has nine stolen bags for the season, already his highest total since the 2019 campaign.
Jun 17, 2023
Ends homer drought
Benintendi went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi went 65 games without a homer to open the year -- his last long ball was Aug. 30, 2022, three games before he was shut down for the season with a wrist injury. The outfielder's power has been virtually absent since the start of 2022, though he's dropped to a new low with a punchless .349 slugging percentage this season. He's at least maintained a decent average at .265 with 17 RBI, 33 runs scored, eight stolen bases, 15 doubles and a triple through 266 plate appearances. Benintendi had a near-everyday role for much of the campaign, but with the White Sox near full health, it appears he's started to sit out more frequently against left-handers, though not to the extent to be in a platoon.
Jun 15, 2023
Gets Thursday off
Benintendi isn't in the White Sox's lineup Thursday against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi is 4-for-16 with two RBI and two runs scored over his last five games and will get a breather Thursday. While he rests, Clint Frazier will take over in left field and bat eighth.
Jun 8, 2023
Sitting in nightcap
Benintendi isn't starting Game 2 of the White Sox's doubleheader with the Yankees on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has been hot at the plate over the past week, but after an 0-for-5 effort in Game 1 on Thursday, he will sit out of the nightcap. While Benintendi rests, Clint Frazier will take over in left field and bat leadoff.
Jun 4, 2023
Sparks ninth-inning rally
Benintendi went 1-for-1 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi pinch hit for Clint Frazier in the ninth inning, hitting a leadoff single and stealing second. Jake Burger capped the rally with a walk-off grand slam. Benintendi has gone 6-for-19 (.316) over his last six contests and continues to hold down a strong-side platoon role in left field. The outfielder is slashing .275/.330/.355 with seven steals, 14 RBI and 30 runs scored through 57 contests, but he's yet to hit a home run while adding 15 doubles and a triple.
Jun 4, 2023
Sitting against southpaw
Benintendi is not in the lineup versus the Tigers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi will take a seat for the series finale against Detroit against left-hander Matthew Boyd. Clint Frazier will get the start in left and hit seventh in Benintendi's absence.
Jun 3, 2023
Swipes sixth bag
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
He had half of Chicago's hits on the afternoon and scored the game's first run after a leadoff single in the fourth inning, stealing second and then taking advantage of two wild pitches by Michael Lorenzen. In fact, all three runs on the day crossed the plate due to wild pitches. Benintendi is batting .313 (21-for-67) over his last 20 games, but he hasn't made much of an impact otherwise -- through 56 contests on the season, the 28-year-old has zero homers, six steals, 14 RBI and 29 runs.
May 28, 2023
Takes seat versus lefty
Benintendi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
With the White Sox welcoming Eloy Jimenez (appendectomy) back from the injured list and with a tough lefty (Eduardo Rodriguez) on the hill for Detroit, the lefty-hitting Benintendi will be riding pine in the series finale. Clint Frazier will pick up the start at Benintendi's usual spot in left field, while Jimenez mans right field in his return to the lineup.
May 27, 2023
Multi-hit effort
Benintendi went 2-for-5 with a triple, a walk, an RBI and a run scored Friday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi delivered an RBI triple in the second inning and added a single later in the game to tally his first multi-hit game in his last eight starts. Though he has still yet to homer this season, Benintendi has shown some ability to hit for extra bases of late, racking up six doubles and a triple across his last 13 games. Even with that stretch, he has a .085 ISO for the season and has provided fantasy value mostly through his volume of plate appearances.
May 18, 2023
Racking up hits
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi led off the fifth inning and came around to score to account for the majority of his production. The effort marked his fourth multi-hit performance in his last six starts, though that hasn't led to counting stats as he has only one RBI and two runs scored in that span. The story of his season is similar, as Benintendi is hitting .277 but with only 10 RBI and 21 runs scored across 40 games.
May 14, 2023
Swipes fifth bag
Benintendi went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a stolen base Saturday against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi didn't have the counting stats to show for it, but he was a driver of Chicago's offense Saturday. The majority of his production came in the seventh inning, when he earned a walk and proceeded to steal second base -- his fifth stolen bag of the season. Though he now has three multi-hit efforts in his last seven starts, Benintendi still has a subpar .284 wOBA and 77 wRC+ across 156 plate appearances on the season.
May 8, 2023
Three runs scored, two RBI
Benintendi went 2-for-6 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored Sunday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi played his part in a 17-run outburst for the White Sox, with the majority of his damage coming on a two-RBI single in the second inning. He's riding a six-game hitting streak, during which he has gone for 6-for-27 with four RBI and four runs scored. Overall, Benintendi has an underwhelming 77 wRC+ and .283 wOBA across 133 plate appearances for the season.
May 2, 2023
Returns to lineup
Benintendi (elbow) is back in the White Sox' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has missed the previous two contests after being hit in the elbow by a pitch. He'll be in left field and batting second against Joe Ryan on Tuesday.
Apr 30, 2023
Out again Sunday
Benintendi (elbow) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
It'll be the second straight absence for Benintendi after he was hit by a pitch in the elbow during Friday's contest. The initial X-rays came back negative, and the 28-year-old will also have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery before potentially missing more time. Gavin Sheets will move to left field Sunday while Oscar Colas starts in right.
Apr 29, 2023
X-rays negative on elbow
Benintendi wasn't feeling well after getting hit in the elbow by a pitch in Friday's game, but X-rays were negative, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This explains why he is out of the lineup against righty Yonny Chirinos in Saturday's game. Benintendi went 1-for-4 and was plunked by Pete Fairbanks in the second game of the four-game series. Adam Haseley is starting in left field Saturday and Fegan reports Benintendi could return Sunday.
Apr 29, 2023
Not in Saturday's lineup
Benintendi is not in Saturday's lineup against the Rays, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi is hitting .293 with zero home runs and two steals over his last 15 games. Adam Haseley gets the start in left field with righty Yonny Chirinos set to be the primary pitcher for Tampa Bay.
Apr 29, 2023
Swipes two bags in loss
Benintendi went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Rays.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old did his best to generate some offense from the top of the order. With the score tied 2-2 in the seventh inning, Benintendi singled and swiped second base, then got hit by a pitch in the ninth with the White Sox down by a run and got himself into scoring position once again. The steals were his first since April 8, and he's still looking for his first homer of 2023, but Benintendi has maintained a decent fantasy floor by batting .281 through 24 games with 13 runs scored and four stolen bases.
Apr 22, 2023
On base four times Friday
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with two walks and an RBI in Friday's 8-7 loss to the Rays.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old kept the line moving from the leadoff spot, but the three hitters behind him went a combined 2-for-14 and couldn't bring him around. Benintendi is enjoying a solid start to his White Sox tenure, slashing .286/.342/.343 through 17 games, and while he's still looking for his first homer of the year he does have two steals, five RBI and 11 runs.
Apr 18, 2023
Sitting second game of doubleheader
Benintendi is not in the starting lineup for the second game of a doubleheader against the Phillies on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi will take a seat for the second game of the doubleheader against southpaw Bailey Falter. Romy Gonzalez gets the start in left field and will hit eighth.
Apr 16, 2023
Out of lineup Sunday
Benintendi is out of the lineup to begin Sunday's game against the Orioles, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi will take a seat against Grayson Rodriguez and the Orioles for the series finale. Gavin Sheets gets the start in left field in his place and will hit third.
Apr 11, 2023
Moves up to leadoff
Andrew Benintendi is batting leadoff and playing left field for the White Sox on Tuesday in Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi gets the first shot in the leadoff spot with Tim Anderson (knee) out. He could be the regular leadoff man against righties while Anderson is sidelined for the next few weeks. Benintendi has a .621 OPS with two stolen bases this season.
Apr 7, 2023
Day off Friday
Benintendi is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi will take a seat after he went 4-for-12 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored over the three-game series with the Giants. Romy Gonzalez will replace him in left field and bat eighth in the series opener against Pittsburgh.
Apr 2, 2023
Swipes first bag
Benintendi went 2-for-5 with a stolen base Saturday against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi recorded his first multi-hit game of the season and both of his knocks were singles. He also swiped his first base of the campaign in the third frame before ultimately being stranded at second base. Benintendi has had an unremarkable start to his first year with the White Sox, collecting four hits in 14 at-bats while also striking out three times.
Mar 4, 2023
Hitting third in lineup
Manager Pedro Grifol said he likes hitting Benintendi third in the order "right now," Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The White Sox signed Benintendi to a five-year, $75 million contract in December so it's no surprise that he'll play a significant role for the team. In his full quote, Grifol hinted that Benintendi could move around the order in the future. It's also likely that he'd shift down the order when a lefty is on the mound. Spring training results aren't all that important for a veteran hitter, but Benintendi has only one hit through nine plate appearances early in the exhibition season.
Dec 16, 2022
Nets five-year pact with White Sox
Benintendi (wrist) signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the White Sox on Friday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi put together a .304/.373/.399 batting line with five home runs and eight stolen bases for the Royals and Yankees this past season. He doesn't run nearly as well as he used to and his already-modest power bottomed out in 2022. However, Benintendi does offer good on-base skills and an adequate glove. He should score a good number of runs if he bats high in the White Sox' batting order. Benintendi had hamate bone surgery in September but he'll be fine for spring training.
Oct 19, 2022
Won't return from ALCS
The Yankees didn't activate Benintendi (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday in advance of Game 1 of their American League Championship Series with the Astros.
ANALYSIS
According to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Benintendi was never viewed as a good bet to make it back for this round of the postseason, despite having recently taken batting practice against high-velocity pitching. He still needs more time to regain strength in his surgically-repaired wrist, but the Yankees haven't ruled out the possibility of Benintendi being available for the World Series if New York should get past Houston.
Oct 14, 2022
Gearing up for potential return
Benintendi (wrist) is ramping up his activity ahead a potential return for the ALCS, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi hit off a high-velocity pitching machine Thursday and is set to travel to Tampa Bay to face live at-bats. If all goes well and the Yankees advance to the ALCS, Benintendi could be back in the lineup for the stretch run. For the time being, Oswaldo Cabrera will start in left field and bat sixth in Friday's ALDS matchup with the Guardians.
Sep 30, 2022
Slated to take dry swings
Benintendi (wrist) is scheduled to begin taking dry swings Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi said last week that he doesn't expect to return from the injured list before the playoffs, but it's encouraging that he'll resume swinging over the weekend. It's not yet clear whether the 28-year-old will be available for the start of the postseason, but he seems to be trending in the right direction.
Sep 22, 2022
Not expected back before playoffs
Benintendi (wrist) said Thursday that he doesn't expect to return from the injured list prior to the end of the regular season, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi broke the hook of his hamate bone in early September and underwent surgery. He hasn't experienced any setbacks in his recovery process, but he said Thursday that his mindset during his rehab has been to prepare for a potential postseason return. The 28-year-old isn't yet sure when he'll be able to resume swinging a bat, but he hopes that he'll be in the mix to return during the playoffs. If the Yankees win the American League East, they'll begin postseason play in the ALDS on Oct. 11.
Sep 5, 2022
Getting surgery Tuesday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Benintendi's right wrist surgery is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi's upcoming procedure will repair the hook of the hamate bone in his wrist and is expected to keep him on the shelf for several weeks, which could mean that he won't play again during the regular season. A clearer timeline on Benintendi's recovery may come forth once the procedure is completed, but for at least the time being, his absence will open up more reps in left field for the likes of Aaron Hicks, Estevan Florial, Tim Locastro and Marwin Gonzalez.
Sep 4, 2022
Requires surgery
Benintendi broke the hook of his hamate bone and will require surgery, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi underwent X-rays this weekend that came back negative, and he was initially diagnosed with right wrist discomfort. However, the issue is apparently more significant and should keep the 28-year-old off the field for several weeks. It wouldn't be surprising to see him miss the remainder of the regular season, but it's possible that he could return at some point during the postseason.
Sep 3, 2022
Lands on 10-day IL
Benintendi was placed on the 10-day injured list with right wrist inflammation Saturday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi hurt his right wrist on a swing Friday against the Rays and underwent X-rays that came back negative, but he's dealing with inflammation that will sideline him for at least a week and a half. The 28-year-old will undergo further imaging on his wrist and is unlikely to have a better timetable for his return until the results of his tests are known. Oswaldo Cabrera and Aaron Hicks should see increased playing time in the outfield while Benintendi is unavailable.
Sep 3, 2022
Not in Saturday's lineup
Benintendi (wrist) isn't starting Saturday against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi sustained a right wrist injury during Friday's matchup against Tampa Bay and underwent X-rays after the game that came back negative. The results of his MRI aren't yet known, but he'll be out of the lineup for at least one game while Aaron Hicks starts in left field and bats ninth.
Sep 2, 2022
X-rays negative
Benintendi's X-rays on his right wrist were negative, and he'll undergo an MRI on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi exited Friday's game against the Rays after hurting his right wrist on a swing. Although the 28-year-old will undergo further testing, early test results suggest that he's avoided a significant injury. If he's forced to miss additional time, Oswaldo Cabrera and Aaron Hicks could see additional work in the outfield.
Sep 2, 2022
Undergoing X-rays
Benintendi exited Friday's game against the Rays due to a right wrist injury and will undergo X-rays.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi appeared to hurt his wrist on a swing in the top of the third inning, and he was replaced by a pinch hitter. A better idea of his status will likely come into focus once the results of his X-rays are known.
Sep 2, 2022
Exits with injury
Benintendi was removed from Friday's game against the Rays in the top of the third inning due to an apparent right hand injury, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi went 1-for-1 with a double to begin Friday's matchup, but he appeared to hurt his right hand on a swing in the top of the third. He was replaced by a pinch hitter, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available to return Saturday.
Aug 31, 2022
Knocks homer Tuesday
Benintendi went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi cooled off a bit after a warm stretch last week, but he's still gone 14-for-40 (.350) over his last 10 games. He's added two homers, seven RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base in that span. The veteran outfielder is up to a .303/.373/.397 slash line with five long balls, 51 RBI, 54 runs scored and eight steals through 124 games between the Yankees and the Royals this season.
Aug 21, 2022
Showcases power Sunday
Benintendi went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two runs, two RBI, a walk and a strikeout during Sunday's 4-2 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has had a sluggish start offensively since joining the Yankees in late July, and his go-ahead home run in the seventh inning Sunday marked the first time he's gone yard since the trade. Over 23 games with the Yankees, the 28-year-old has slashed .211/.322/.368 with a home run, a triple, seven doubles, 10 runs, seven RBI and three stolen bases.
Aug 10, 2022
Sitting Wednesday
Benintendi is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi will get a breather after he went 5-for-14 with three doubles, three RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base over the last three contests. Miguel Andujar will take over in left field and bat seventh in the series finale.
Aug 9, 2022
Picking up steam
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, a run and three RBI in Monday's 9-4 victory versus Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi knocked a run-scoring double in the third inning and drove home two more with another double in the fifth. The veteran outfielder had a slow start to his tenure with the Yankees, going 2-for-25 over his first nine games. Benintendi may be turning things around, though, as he's gone 4-for-9 with three extra-base hits over his past two contests.
Aug 6, 2022
Heads to bench
Benintendi will sit Saturday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi started eight straight games after coming over in a trade with the Royals in late July, but he didn't have much success at the plate, grabbing just two hits. Aaron Hicks will be the left fielder Saturday.

Collects sixth steal
Benintendi 0-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old outfielder has gone just 1-for-20 to begin his Yankees tenure, but he's drawn eight walks in seven games and chipped in two of his six steals on the season. Benintendi is still batting .305 on the year, and it's only a matter of time until hits start falling in for him in pinstripes.
Jul 31, 2022
Swipes fifth bag
Benintendi went 0-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base in an 8-6 loss Sunday against Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi walked in the fourth and sixth innings -- stealing second in the sixth -- and grounded out in his other two plate appearances. The veteran is 1-for-10 with six walks since being acquired in a trade with Kansas City. He compiled a .341/.444/.378 line with no homers, four stolen bases and a 16:11 BB:K in 25 July games. In four games as a Yankee, he's hit first, third, fifth and sixth while starting in left field each game.
Jul 27, 2022
Heading to Bronx
The Yankees are finalizing a trade to acquire Benintendi from the Royals in exchange for three unspecified minor-league players, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old went 1-for-4 during Kansas City's loss to the Angels on Wednesday, and it will end up being his final game with the club. Benintendi has a .320/.387/.398 slash line with three home runs, 39 RBI, 40 runs and four stolen bases in 92 games this year, and he should play a significant role in New York's outfield the rest of the year, especially with Giancarlo Stanton (Achilles) recently landing on the injured list.
Jul 26, 2022
Collects three hits, swipes bag
Benintendi went 3-for-5 with two runs and a stolen base in Monday's 7-0 win against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi singled and stole second base in the first inning, but he was left stranded there. The outfielder's subsequent two singles had better endings, as he scored in each of the seventh and eighth frames. Benintendi continues to be the subject of trade rumors, but that hasn't distracted him at the plate. He's put together a six-game hitting streak during which he's batting .423 (11-for-26) with five runs, four RBI and two steals.
Jul 23, 2022
Swipes bag in win
Benintendi went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi picked up his third steal of the season in the third inning. All of those thefts have come since June 20. The outfielder is 7-for-17 (.412) in his last four contests, a continuation of his solid hitting all year. He owns a .318/.389/.400 slash line with three home runs, 39 RBI, 38 runs scored, 14 doubles and two triples through 373 plate appearances. He's hit second or third for much of the season with the Royals, though he remains a top trade candidate ahead of the Aug. 2 trade deadline.
Jul 18, 2022
Back from restricted list
The Royals reinstated Benintendi (personal) from the restricted list Monday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi was one of 10 Royals players who will rejoin the 26-man active roster after being ineligible to play during the four-game weekend series in Toronto due his vaccination status. He closed the Royals' first-half schedule with a .317/.386/.401 slash line to go with three home runs, two stolen bases, 37 RBI and 37 runs across 363 plate appearances. As a veteran player with an expiring contract on a non-contending team, Benintendi will be a prime candidate to be dealt elsewhere ahead of the Aug. 2 trade deadline.
Jul 14, 2022
Lands on restricted list
The Royals placed Benintendi (personal) on the restricted list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi is one of 10 Royals on the 26-man active roster who won't be eligible for the four-game series in Toronto due to his vaccination status. He'll be formally reinstated from the restricted list for the Royals' first game coming out of the All-Star break July 22 against Tampa Bay. Outfielder Brewer Hicklen was summoned from Triple-A Omaha to temporarily replace Benintendi on the active roster.
Jul 13, 2022
Unavailable in Toronto
Benintendi is unable to enter Canada for the four-game series in Toronto this weekend due to his vaccination status, so he'll be placed on the restricted list Thursday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old is one of 10 players for the Royals who are unvaccinated and will miss the series against the Blue Jays. Benintendi went 2-for-4 with a run during Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Tigers, and it'll end up being his final game of the season's first half. He is Kansas City's lone All-Star representative, and the next time he'll take the field is for the midsummer classic Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Jul 11, 2022
Takes seat for nightcap
Benintendi isn't starting the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi started in the first game of the doubleheader and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. He'll get a breather while Edward Olivares shifts to left field with Ryan O'Hearn starting in right.
Jul 7, 2022
Reaches base four times Wednesday
Benintendi went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, three runs, an RBI and a stolen base in a 7-4 victory against the Astros on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi once again worked as an offensive catalyst near the top of the lineup, reaching base in all but one of his five plate appearances and scoring three of the team's seven runs. The veteran outfielder finished with his seventh multi-hit appearance over his past nine games, and he's batting a robust .485 (16-for-33) during that stretch. Benintendi has only three homers and two stolen bases on the campaign, but with a .316/.387/.404 slash line, he's built considerable value with the trade deadline less than a month away.
Jul 5, 2022
Posts three hits, two RBI Monday
Benintendi went 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has multiple hits in six of his last seven games. He's gone 13-for-26 (.500) in that span, but only one of those hits has gone for extra bases (a double). It's more of the same for the veteran outfielder, who has maintained a strong .314 batting average with a rather pedestrian .780 OPS through 77 contests. He's added three home runs, 31 RBI, 30 runs scored, a stolen base, 12 doubles and two triples while regularly slotting in as the Royals' No. 2 hitter.
Jun 28, 2022
Cleared to start Tuesday
Benintendi (knee) will start in left field and bat second Tuesday against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi was forced out of Monday's 10-4 loss in the series opener after banging his knee during a slide, but his early exit was described as precautionary. His inclusion in the lineup a day later seemingly supports that notion, so fantasy managers shouldn't have much reason to fret about his health moving forward. Benintendi is batting an excellent .299 on the season, but his production in the counting-stats categories (28 runs, 26 RBI, three home runs and one stolen base in 71 games) has been disappointing.
Jun 28, 2022
Precautionary exit
Benintendi exited Monday's 10-4 loss to the Rangers after banging his knee on a slide, but he is expected to be fine moving forward, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Mike Matheny said he took Benintendi out of the game once the outcome was fairly well established in order to get the outfielder some extra rest. However, the injury doesn't appear to be anything serious and it would be reasonable to expect Benintendi in the lineup Tuesday.
Jun 25, 2022
Three hits in win Friday
Benintendi went 3-for-4 in Friday's 3-1 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi wasn't involved in any run-scoring plays, but he was one of two Royals to get on base multiple times. He's on a tear lately, going 12-for-36 (.333) in his last nine contests. The outfielder has maintained a solid batting line in 2022, slashing .302/.366/.395 in 287 plate appearances, but his counting stats are lacking. Benintendi has three home runs, one stolen base, 25 RBI and 27 runs scored despite regularly batting second in the Royals' lineup.
Jun 21, 2022
Fills stat sheet Monday
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored, a stolen base and a walk in Monday's 6-2 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi opened the scoring with a first-inning blast off Angels starter Noah Syndergaard. In the eighth, Benintendi added a single and his first stolen base of the season. Steals have been a noticeable absence on the outfielder's stat line this year -- this was his first attempt of the campaign after going 8-for-17 on the basepaths last season. The outfielder has made up for it with strong hitting, as he's maintained a .298/.363/.396 slash line with three homers, 25 RBI, 25 runs scored, 11 doubles and two triples through 65 contests.
Jun 15, 2022
Takes seat Wednesday
Benintendi isn't starting Wednesday against San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi will get a day off after he went 1-for-16 with a run, two walks and two strikeouts over the last four games. Hunter Dozier will shift to left field while Carlos Santana draws the start at first base.
Jun 7, 2022
Back in action Tuesday
Benintendi (calf) will start in left field and bat second in Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.
ANALYSIS
For just the third time this season, Benintendi was on the bench for Monday's 8-0 loss to Toronto while he received some maintenance to deal with a tight calf muscle. The day off apparently was all Benintendi needed to overcome the issue, as he'll resume manning his usual spot in left field Tuesday. Kyle Isbel will shift over to center field as a result of Benintendi rejoining the lineup.
Jun 6, 2022
On bench Monday
Benintendi (calf) isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi's calf tightened up during Sunday's loss to the Astros after he fouled a ball off his calf, and he'll be out of the lineup a day later. Whether he's available off the bench remains to be seen, but Kyle Isbel, Michael Taylor and MJ Melendez will start in the outfield from left to right.
Jun 5, 2022
Managing calf tightness
Benintendi is dealing with calf tightness following Sunday's loss to the Astros, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi fouled a ball off his calf in the bottom of the sixth inning but was able to remain in the game prior to exiting ahead of the ninth inning. He said after the game that his calf was feeling tight, but he hopes to be available for Monday's series opener against the Blue Jays.
Jun 1, 2022
Raps out three hits
Benintendi went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi and Carlos Santana were the only Royals who logged multiple hits against Konnor Pilkington and three Cleveland relievers. This was Benintendi's fourth multi-hit effort in his last five games, and he's hit safely in 14 of his last 15 contests, going 24-for-60 (.400) in that longer stretch. He's up to a .337/.402/.431 slash line with two home runs, 21 RBI, 16 runs scored and no stolen bases in 49 games while often hitting No. 2 in the order.
May 22, 2022
Hitting streak at six games
Benintendi went 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has gone 11-for-25 (.440) during his current six-game hitting streak, which includes a pair of three-hit efforts in the last two contests. He's up to a .329/.390/.425 slash line with two home runs, 17 RBI, 12 runs scored and four doubles in 40 contests. One notable absence from his game this year is stolen bases -- he's posted no fewer than eight steals in any full season of action in his career, and no less than 13 attempts, but he's yet to test his luck on the basepaths this year. The Royals are usually a team that's aggressive for steals -- Whit Merrifield and Bobby Witt each have six, while Adalberto Mondesi (knee) logged five before his season-ending injury, so it's curious to see Benintendi take a more passive approach.
May 22, 2022
Perfect at plate Saturday
Benintendi went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI in a 9-2 loss to the Twins on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi was the only Royal to record multiple hits, and Carlos Santana was his only other teammate to reach base more than once. In his last five games, Benintendi is 8-for-21 (.381) with two doubles. The outfielder's enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, and Saturday's excellent performance lifted his slash line to .317/.377/.415 with two home runs, 17 RBI, 12 runs scored and four doubles in 39 contests.
May 15, 2022
Receives day off versus lefty
Benintendi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old started the past 17 games, including seven starts against left-handed pitching, but will receive Sunday off with southpaw Austin Gomber on the mound for Colorado. Benintendi has enjoyed a strong start to the campaign with a .316/.370/.421 slash line, two home runs, 15 RBI and 11 runs scored.
May 14, 2022
Sprays three hits
Benintendi went 3-for-6 with a two-run home run, triple and an additional run and RBI in a 14-10 win over Colorado on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi opened the scoring with a two-run bomb to right in the first inning, singled and scored in the third and tripled home a run in the seventh. The extra-base hits were the 27-year-old's first since back on May 1 as he was batting .211 in May prior to Friday's game. Benintendi is now slashing an excellent .324/.374/.432 with two home runs, 11 runs and 15 RBI.
May 13, 2022
Scores win in arbitration
Benintendi won his arbitration case Friday and will make $8.5 million this season, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi had to wait to find out how much money he'll be making this season after arbitration was delayed by the lockout, but he'll be happy with the results. That contract limbo hasn't affected his performance on the field, as his .314/.368/.381 slash line is good for a career-best 124 wRC+.
Apr 29, 2022
Extends hitting streak to 10 games
Benintendi went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a double and walk in Thursday's 5-2 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Along with his RBI double, Benintendi's sacrifice fly scored Cam Gallagher in the sixth inning to give the Royals a 2-0 lead. The left-fielder provided the bulk of Kansas City's offense in the victory and has now recorded a hit in 10 straight games. He's currently slashing .393/.433/.492 over 118 plate appearances.
Apr 24, 2022
Gets first breather
Benintendi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Manager Mike Matheny will extend Benintendi and fellow lefty-hitting lineup regular Nicky Lopez their first days off of the season while the Royals face off against a tough southpaw in reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray. Edward Olivares will fill in in left field for Benintendi, who will look to extend his six-game hitting streak when he likely returns to the lineup Tuesday against the White Sox.
Apr 11, 2022
Goes deep, reaches five times
Benintendi went 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks, three RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 10-7 loss to Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi tied the game in the fourth inning with an RBI single and later scored a run in the seventh. He capped off his big day with a two-run blast off Emmanuel Clase in the ninth. The 27-year-old outfielder finished the four-game set against the Guardians with a .538/.625/.769 slash line.
Apr 10, 2022
Three hits against Guardians
Benintendi went 3-for-4 in Saturday's 1-0 extra-inning win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
All three hits were singles and none of them led to any runs, but Benintendi still accounted for half the Royals' knocks on the afternoon. The 27-year-old is off to a strong start to 2022, going 4-for-8 with an RBI through two games.
Mar 29, 2022
Mashes pair of homers
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in Monday's 19-9 win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi came into Monday's game with just one hit, so this was a much-needed showing from the Royals' presumed starting left fielder. The lefty hitter actually has a better slash line versus southpaws (.279/.350/.436) than right-handers (.259/.326/.420) over the last three seasons combined. Despite the slow start to spring, Benintendi is unlikely to see much of a challenge for playing time as long as he can stay healthy.
Oct 3, 2021
Sits season finale
Benintendi is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi's red-hot final month has continued and he'll likely finish the season hitting .276/.325/.443 in 537 plate appearances. Hunter Dozier is starting in left field Sunday.
Sep 29, 2021
Starting Wednesday
Benintendi (foot) is starting Wednesday's game against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi fouled a ball off himself in Tuesday's contest and was later removed in the eighth inning, but he'll be back in the lineup a day later. The 27-year-old is starting in left field and batting fourth.
Sep 29, 2021
May have injured leg Tuesday
Benintendi was removed in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 6-4 win over Cleveland after he appeared to injure his right leg when he fouled a ball off himself in his plate appearance earlier in the inning, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi initially stayed in the game and drew a walk during the plate appearance, then advanced to second on an error. The Royals replaced him for a pinch runner when Adalberto Mondesi came to the plate a batter later, however, making Benintendi's status murky heading into Wednesday's contest. Before departing, Benintendi enjoyed another nice day at the plate with a two-run home run in addition to the walk.
Sep 29, 2021
Goes deep in win
Benintendi went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk Tuesday in a 9-4 win versus Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi helped the Royals respond to Cleveland's three-run top of the first with a two-run shot in the bottom of the frame. The long ball gave him 17 on the campaign -- his most since he hit 20 during his first full MLB season in 2017. Benintendi has also posted a .275/.318/.442 slash line, 71 RBI and eight stolen bases across 129 games.
Sep 22, 2021
Resting against lefty
Benintendi is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
The Royals viewed the series finale in Cleveland as a good opportunity to give the lefty-hitting Benintendi a day off with a southpaw (Logan Allen) on the hill for Cleveland. Kyle Isbel will spell Benintendi in left field.
Sep 21, 2021
Slugs 16th homer
Benintendi went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS

The 26-year-old slammed a three-run homer in the first inning to lead off the scoring, and smacked the game-winning homer in the 11th inning. He is slashing .263/.308/.430 with 15 long balls, 57 RBI, 56 runs and eight steals in 453 plate appearances.
Sep 9, 2021
Socks 13th homer
Benintendi went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI in Wednesday's 9-8 loss to the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
He took Dillon Tate deep in the ninth inning for a three-run blast that brought the Royals back to within a run after the bullpen had somehow surrendered nine runs in the eight, but the late rally fell short. The homer was Benintendi's first since Aug. 20 and 13th of the year, and he slashed only .231/.261/.354 over that 16-game power drought.
Sep 4, 2021
Collects three hits
Benintendi went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and one RBI in Friday's 7-3 victory over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS

The 27-year-old has posted multi-hit performances in three contests during his current six-game hitting streak, and he's crossed the plate five times across those six appearances.
Aug 19, 2021

ANALYSIS
Benintendi's most important contribution to the game came in the ninth inning, when he threw out Chas McCormick at home plate to send the Royals to a third straight win. He had collected just one hit in his last 19 at-bats prior to Monday's game. Aug 3, 2021
Leaves with shoulder injury
Benintendi was removed from Tuesday's game against the White Sox with an apparent left shoulder injury, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi suffered the injury during the fourth inning while sliding into second base on a successful steal, and he promptly left the field with an athletic trainer. The 27-year-old's shoulder was being supported by the trainer while leaving the field, so it wouldn't be surprising if he requires a trip to the injured list.

Benintendi went 3-for-5 with a home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Saturday's loss against Cleveland.

Jul 4, 2021
Kept quiet in return
Benintendi (ribs) went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Sunday's 6-2 loss to Minnesota.

Jul 4, 2021

Benintendi (ribs) was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He will bat second and play left field for the series finale against Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
The outfielder was on the injured list since June 14 with a fractured right rib, and finally makes his return to the Kansas City lineup. Benintendi had gotten hot at the plate before getting injured, hitting .302 with five homers and 20 RBI in his last 27 games. Edward Olivares was optioned to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.
Jun 30, 2021
Making solid progress in recovery
Royals manager Mike Matheny said Monday that he received positive reports regarding Benintendi's recovery from a right rib fracture, and the outfielder could soon resume baseball activities, MLB.com reports. "You can tell he's lost a lot of that -- whether it's coughing or sneezing -- pain that was going with that," Matheny said of Benintendi. "Unfortunately, when you have that injury, you are so subjected to testing it without wanting to. Whatever reason, when you have that injury, seems like you sneeze mo
ANALYSIS
Matheny noted that Benintendi has inquired about when he can resume rotational activity and light hitting, an indication that he's not experiencing recurring pain in his rib cage. The Royals have yet to formally outline a rehab program for Benintendi at this point, however, and the club could be inclined to err on the side of caution and hold the 26-year-old out through the All-Star break. Benintendi was hitting .283 with eight home runs, seven stolen bases, 31 runs and 31 RBI in 60 games before landing on the 10-day injured list June 14.
Jun 14, 2021
Placed on injured list
Benintendi was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right rib fracture Monday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi apparently sustained his injury while making a throw in Oakland, and he felt fine prior to Monday morning. However, he was diagnosed with a hairline fracture and will spend time on the injured list as a result. Jarrod Dyson and Edward Olivares could see increased playing time in the outfield while the 26-year-old is sidelined.

He's trimmed his strikeout percentage from 32.7 last year to 19.2 this season, which has likely played a role in his return to his usual level of production after an injury-plagued 2020.
Jun 8, 2021
Day off Tuesday
Benintendi will sit Tuesday against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi finds himself on the bench for just the fifth time this season. He's bounced back nicely from a poor and injury-shortened 2020 season, hitting .289/.344/.418. Edward Olivares starts in left field in his absence.
Jun 6, 2021
Homers, triples Saturday
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a triple in Saturday's loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi recorded his first triple of the season in the bottom of the first inning and later blasted his sixth long ball off Jose Berrios, but his strong performance wasn't enough to lift the Royals to a win here. That said, the outfielder extended his hitting streak to six games and has recorded three multi-hit contests during that stretch.
Jun 4, 2021

Benintendi went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's 6-5 win over Minnesota. He was also hit by a pitch.
ANALYSIS

The outfielder is now 7-for-13 in stolen base attempts -- the six times caught stealing represent a career high. He's slashing .292/.351/.400 with five home runs, 24 RBI and 25 runs scored across 205 plate appearances in what's been a solid bounce-back campaign.
Jun 2, 2021

ANALYSIS

The 26-year-old also tacked on an RBI single in the first frame for a season-high five RBI. After a rough start to the year, Benintendi has started to find his groove, knocking in five long balls while raising his batting average to a team-leading .291.

Benintendi has gone 6-for-10 in stolen base attempts this year. He sports a .288/.349/.379 slash line with three home runs, 15 RBI and 20 runs scored across 169 plate appearances.

May 13, 2021
Another three hits
Benintendi went 3-for-5 Thursday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi collected three singles, though that did not translate to any counting stats. Even so, he's now recorded at least one hit in 16 of his last 18 games and also has eight multi-hit efforts in that span. Though he has only eight extra-base hits, Benintendi has maintained a solid .281/.345/.391 line with 18 runs scored, 11 RBI and five stolen bases through 142 plate appearances on the season.
May 12, 2021

ANALYSIS

The outfielder is slashing .275/.346/.392 with three home runs, 10 RBI and 18 runs scored across 133 plate appearances. He's also supplied some speed, going 5-for-9 in stolen base attempts.
May 7, 2021
Keeps hitting streak going
Benintendi went 1-for-4 with a single to extend his hitting streak to 10 games in Thursday's 4-0 loss to Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
During his streak, Benintendi is hitting .421 (16-for-38) with two home runs, four RBI, seven runs scored and two stolen bases. The outfielder's long run of success at the dish has his season slash line up to .276/.345/.410 across 116 plate appearances. After losing his grip on the No. 2 spot in the order due to a slow start, Benintendi has returned to that prime position behind Whit Merrifield.
May 6, 2021
Records two more hits
Benintendi went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's loss against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi recorded a double off Shane Bieber -- his fifth of the season -- and extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 15-for-34 (.441) in that span. He also has five multi-hit performances during that stretch and has been one of the Royals' most consistent hitters through the first few weeks of the campaign.
May 5, 2021
Hitting streak at eight games
Benintendi went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to Cleveland.

After a frosty start at the plate, Benintendi has gone 13-for-30 (.433) with two home runs, four RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases during his eight-game hitting streak. He's batted second in the last two contests -- he'll be in position to get more involved in the offense if he stays near the top of the order. For the year, the outfielder has five stolen bases, three home runs, 10 RBI and 17 runs scored across 108 plate appearances.
May 1, 2021

ANALYSIS
Benintendi drew the first of his three walks in the first inning and scored on a Hunter Dozier triple. In the sixth, Benintendi plated the Royals' last two runs of the game with a double. The outfielder is now slashing .234/.322/.325 with four stolen bases, one home run, eight RBI and 12 runs scored across 87 plate appearances. He remains in an everyday role, but the 26-year-old has frequently hit seventh in the order after a slow start to the season.
Apr 27, 2021
Not starting Tuesday
Benintendi is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi hits the bench for just the second time this season. It's hard to say he's earned an everyday role, as he's hitting .2247/.293/.307 on the year, but the Royals have so far seemed content to let him play through his struggles. He's at least helped fantasy teams out with four steals and should be expected to continue to run frequently for a Kansas City team that's attempted the second-most steals in the league.
Apr 26, 2021
Registers stolen base

ANALYSIS
Benintendi got aboard with a walk in the first period and scored on Carlos Santana's sacrifice fly. In the third, Whit Merrifield and Benintendi both singled to start the inning, then executed a double-steal. That accounted for Benintendi's second stolen base of the season. ANALYSIS

The 26-year-old Benintendi has no homers, one steal, one RBI and three runs scored through seven games this season. None of his six hits have gone for extra bases.
Apr 9, 2021
Rough start to season
Benintendi is hitting just .200 (5-for-25) over the first six games of the season.
ANALYSIS
All five of his hits so far have been singles. He's also drawn two walks and struck out eight times. Benintendi has scored three runs, but he's not getting on base very well (.257) despite consistently hitting second in the order behind Whit Merrifield. The left-handed hitting Benintendi would likely still hold a platoon advantage if his role reduces, but he's struggled to produce a fantasy-relevant stat line through the first week of the season.
Apr 4, 2021
Cleared to play Sunday
Benintendi (lower body) will start in left field and bat second Sunday against the Rangers, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi was pulled late in Saturday's 11-4 win due to lower-body soreness, going 0-for-4 at the plate prior to his departure. Manager Mike Matheny described Benintendi's removal as precautionary, and the 26-year-old's presence in the lineup a day later seemingly confirms as much. He'll take aim against right-hander Jordan Lyles and the Rangers as Kansas City looks to complete a series sweep.
Apr 3, 2021
Exits with soreness
Manager Mike Matheny removed Benintendi from Saturday's win over the Rangers as a precaution due to lower body soreness, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old went 0-for-4 before being replaced in the outfield for the top of the seventh inning with the Royals leading 10-4, so it makes sense for Matheny to illustrate some caution early in the season. It appears to be a minor issue, though it's unclear if Benintendi will also be held out of Sunday's series finale versus Texas.
Mar 18, 2021
Back in action
Benintendi (back) will bat second and play left field Thursday against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi hasn't played since Saturday as he works through a bout of back soreness. He should still have time to get ready for Opening Day, which is still two weeks away. His bat hasn't woken up yet this spring, as he's gone 3-for-18 in Cactus League action.
Mar 15, 2021
Scratched with sore back
Benintendi was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants due to back soreness, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Royals don't appear to be particularly worried about the issue. Benintendi can afford to rest for a few days and still have time to get up to speed by Opening Day. Bubba Starling will replace him in left field in Monday's lineup.
Feb 10, 2021
Shipped to Kansas City
The Royals acquired Benintendi (ribs) from the Red Sox for an undisclosed return Wednesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old went 4-for-39 with a 32.7 percent strikeout rate through the first couple weeks of the 2020 season before being shut down with a rib injury, and he's now set to begin the 2021 campaign with the Royals. Benintendi had a .796 OPS over his first four big-league seasons with the Red Sox and should slot into the starting role in left field for the Royals. He's set to earn $6.6 million this season and is under team control for his final year of arbitration in 2022. According to Rob, it's a three-team trade that also includes the Mets, which means the deal will require approval from the league.
Sep 8, 2020
Done for season
Benintendi (ribs) was transferred to the 45-day injured list Tuesday and will not return this season, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox did not want to force Benintendi back from the injury with the Red Sox playing out the string. Manager Ron Roenicke said he hopes Benintendi forgets how he played during the season and remembers what he did during the two spring training periods, but those who rostered him in fantasy probably won't forget about his .103 batting average with zero home runs and one steal in 39 at-bats.
Aug 31, 2020
May not return this year
Benintendi (ribs) may not return to action before the end of the season, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
Chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom indicated Monday that the Red Sox were "still optimistic" that the outfielder would be able to return, but the fact that it's been framed in those terms suggests it's far from guaranteed. Benintendi was rather unproductive prior to suffering his strained rib cage, hitting .103/.314/.128 in 14 games.
Aug 25, 2020
Still shut down
Benintendi (ribs) isn't close to resuming baseball activities, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained rib cage Aug. 12, and the injury was expected to keep him sidelined longer than 10 days. However, manager Ron Roenicke provided a discouraging update Tuesday, and it's unclear when the 26-year-old will be able to return to action. Alex Verdugo, Jackie Bradley and Kevin Pillar should continue to see increased work as a result.
Aug 13, 2020
Likely out beyond 10 days
Benintendi (ribs) is expected to spend more than the 10-day minimum on the injured list, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old landed on the IL earlier in the day with a strained right rib cage, and the severity of the strain will apparently require him to be sidelined for more than 10 days. Benintendi should be considered out indefinitely until the team provides a more specific recovery timeline. Alex Verdugo, Jackie Bradly and Kevin Pillar should handle to bulk of the outfield work for the Red Sox.
Aug 12, 2020
Headed to IL
Benintendi was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a strained right rib cage, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi apparently picked up the injury during a rundown in Tuesday's loss. X-rays came back negative, but the issue is still serious enough to keep the outfielder sidelined for at least 10 days. In his absence, Kevin Pillar, Alex Verdugo and Jackie Bradley should handle the majority of outfield duties for Boston. Ryan Weber was added to the roster in a corresponding move.
Aug 12, 2020
Two hits in loss
Benintendi went 2-for-3 and was hit by a pitch in Tuesday's 8-2 loss to the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Moved back into the leadoff spot after a temporary bump to the bottom third of the order, Benintendi responded by getting on base three times, although the rest of the Boston offense couldn't cash him in. In fact, the 26-year-old doubled his hit total with Tuesday's performance -- he's now 4-for-39 (.103), and only 11 walks have kept him in the leadoff mix during his brutal start to the season. He'll need to string together a few more good days before he'll be back on the fantasy radar in shallower formats.
Aug 10, 2020
Sitting against lefty
Benintendi isn't starting Monday against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Even against right-handers, Benintendi's role has been in flux recently in the midst of a slump. With southpaw Ryan Yarbrough on the mound for Tampa Bay on Monday, Alex Verdugo will shift to left field with Kevin Pillar starting as the right fielder.
Aug 9, 2020
Removed for pinch hitter
Benintendi was removed for a pinch hitter during the fourth inning of Saturday's 2-1 loss to Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi, mired in a slump to begin the season, was dropped from leadoff to the seven-hole for Saturday's game against Blue Jays right-hander Chase Anderson. He grounded into a double play in his only at-bat. When left-hander Anthony Kay came on to face Benintendi with two outs and runners on first and second, manager Ron Roenicke replaced Benintendi with Kevin Pillar. Benintendi is batting .059 (2-for-34) over 11 games.
Aug 8, 2020
Batting seventh Saturday
Benintendi is batting seventh against the Blue Jays on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi had been the primary leadoff hitter against right-handers to begin the season, but he's been in a major slump over the first 10 games. As a result, Alex Verdugo will replace Benintendi at the top of the order. It's unclear whether the change in the lineup will continue in future contests. Benintendi has hit just 2-for-33 with a double, one RBI and 15 strikeouts this year.
Aug 8, 2020
Could be replaced at leadoff
Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke hinted that Benintendi could be replaced by Alex Verdugo as the team's leadoff hitter, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has been the regular leadoff hitter against right-handers but is slumping badly. The manager slotted him there once again Friday when he went hitless with a walk in five plate appearances. He's batting .061 (2-for-33) overall and .083 (2-for-24) as a leadoff hitter.
Aug 5, 2020
Sitting vs. southpaw
Benintendi is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Rays, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi is 0-for-11 in his career against opposing starter Ryan Yarbrough, so he'll give way to Jose Peraza in left field for this one. Through nine appearances this season, Benintendi is 2-for-29 (.069) with a stolen base and a 9:12 BB:K.
Aug 2, 2020
Out against lefty
Benintendi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi is out of three lefty-hitting lineup regulars that will take a seat in the series finale with southpaw James Paxton on the bump for New York. First baseman Mitch Moreland and outfielder Alex Verdugo will join Benintendi on the bench. Benintendi has just two hits -- a single and a double -- in 34 at-bats this season.
Jul 31, 2020
Sitting Friday
Benintendi is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi is 2-for-21 with seven walks in 29 plate appearances through seven games, and he'll hit the bench with southpaw Jordan Montgomery on the mound for the Yankees. Alex Verdugo will move over the left field Friday while Kevin Pillar receives the start in right.
Jul 28, 2020
Plummets to ninth spot
Benintendi will hit ninth Tuesday against the Mets, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi led off against a lefty on Opening Day but sat against the next southpaw the Red Sox faced on Sunday. This time around, with David Peterson on the mound for the Mets, he'll start but hit at the back of the order, with Jose Peraza leading off.
Jul 28, 2020
Shows off speed
Benintendi went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi got on base with an infield single to lead off the first inning, and managed to steal second. The 26-year-old has reached double-digits in stolen bases in each of the last three seasons. He's hitting .071 with six strikeouts in 16 plate appearances -- Benintendi could move out of the leadoff spot if his batting doesn't improve soon.
Jul 8, 2020
Batting leadoff
Benintendi will replace Mookie Betts has Boston's leadoff hitter in 2020, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi was used as a leadoff hitter for the first portion of the 2019 season, but he was eventually replaced by Betts. At the top of the order, Benintendi batted .256/.355/.412 over 199 at-bats.
Mar 5, 2020
Playing left field Thursday
Updating a previous report, Benintendi will lead off and man left field in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
ANALYSIS
Boston's initial lineup called for Benintendi to play right field, a position he's never played at any point during his four seasons in the majors. The Red Sox ultimately called an audible and have decided to use Benintendi in his more natural position in left for what will be his first game action in the field since he picked up a minor quadriceps injury last week. Thursday's lineup looks to be entirely made up of regulars, so at this point, Benintendi seems to be interim manager Ron Roenicke's top choice to replace the departed Mookie Betts as Boston's leadoff man.
Mar 5, 2020
Manning right field Thursday
Benintendi (quad) will man right field and hit leadoff in Thursday's spring game against the Astros, according to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi's injury has limited him to just one appearance as the DH since Feb. 27, but he is set to both hit and play the field Thursday, so it seems he has put the soreness behind him.

May play field Thursday
Interim manager Ron Roenicke suggested that Benintendi (quadriceps) might be cleared to play the outfield in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After experiencing minor quad tightness just under a week ago, Benintendi returned from a three-game absence to serve as Boston's designated hitter Tuesday against the Yankees. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the 9-1 loss, but more importantly, he didn't experience any setbacks with the quad. Benintendi was scheduled to do outfield drills Wednesday, so if he responds well to that activity, expect him to have a defensive role versus Houston.

Will be designated hitter Tuesday
Benintendi (quadriceps) will return to the lineup as a designated hitter Tuesday against the Yankees, source reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi has been battling a minor quad issue over the last few days, but the Red Sox don't appear overly concerned. He'll still have plenty of time to get into fielding shape by Opening Day.

Managing quad tightness
Benintendi is dealing with quadriceps tightness but could return to game action Tuesday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old has been held out since the issue cropped up Thursday, but his expected quick return to the lineup indicates it's a minor injury. Benintendi is expected to begin the season working as Boston's leadoff man after the departure of Mookie Betts.

Whacks leadoff homer
Benintendi batted leadoff and went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's spring game against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi, who launched his solo home run on the second pitch of the game, is expected to be Boston's primary leadoff hitter in 2020, replacing the departed Mookie Betts. He served in that role to start the 2019 season, going 5-for-42 when leading off games, but 2020 is a different year. Thus far, Benintendi has hit safely in the two games in which he's led off a game.

Listed as possible leadoff man
Benintendi was mentioned alongside new teammate Alex Verdugo (oblique) by interim manager Ron Roenicke as a possible leadoff man following the trade of Mookie Betts to the Dodgers, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi's career 109 wRC+ is nearly identical to Verdugo's 107 mark, though he managed a career-worst 100 wRC+ last season and may need to show signs of a bounceback if he's to win the competition. Even with Betts now in Los Angeles, the top of the Red Sox's order remains strong, and whoever becomes the leadoff hitter will get to bat in front of Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez.

Signs two-year deal
Benintendi and the Red Sox avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, $10 million deal Saturday Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
Benintendi won't reach free agency until 2023, so this deal doesn't extend his time in Boston. Instead, it simply means the two sides won't have to go through the arduous arbitration process either this year or the next. Benintendi will be looking to bounce back from a mediocre 2019 campaign which saw him hit .266/.343/.431 with 13 homers and 10 steals.

Offseason work with hitting coach
Red Sox hitting coach Tim Hyers spent time with Benintendi during the offseason and said the outfielder is in "really good shape," Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Hyers met with a reportedly slimmer Benintendi, who arrived at 2019 spring training noticeably bulked up following a breakout 2018. The outfielder, however, regressed with the added weight, dropping in WAR (4.4 to 2.0) and OPS (.830 to .774). Benintendi's strikeout rate jumped seven percentage points, whiffing 34 percent more often than he did in 2018. "We had a good workout and I think there's some really good things," Hyers said. "He's going to be ready for this year. It was nice to see. He had a really good attitude as far as energetic, ready to go." The 25-year-old is still under team control for three more seasons, and for the first time he is eligible arbitration. That matter will be settled by a third party sometime in early February.
