Beau Brieske Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Tigers vs Yankees game on Feb 21, 2026 with our Major League Baseball injury report.Sep 17, 2023
Covers two scoreless innings
Brieske tossed two scoreless innings of relief in Saturday's extra-inning win over the Angels. He didn't allow any hits or walks and struck out three.
ANALYSIS
After Sawyer Gipson-Long pitched five effective innings to start the game, Brieske cruised through the seventh and eighth. The righty has worked almost exclusively as a reliever this year, with just one start in 22 appearances. Brieske has been fairly good in the role with a 3.99 ERA, though it's possible he rejoins the rotation mix in 2024 after making 15 starts last year for the Tigers.
Sep 6, 2023
Takes loss Wednesday
Brieske (1-3) allowed three runs on four hits across 1.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Yankees. He walked three and had no strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
Brieske was forced into action in the second inning after starter Matt Manning left early with what was later determined to be a fractured right foot. The former struggled, but it can be somewhat forgiven considering the tough circumstances. Brieske could be asked to take Manning's rotation spot for the rest of the season, as he has made 16 starts for the Tigers over the last two years, though 15 of them came in 2022. The righty did manage a solid 4.19 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in those 15 outings, however, and he could make a bid for a 2024 starting job if he impresses down the stretch.
Aug 21, 2023
Takes first loss Monday
Brieske (0-1) allowed two runs on three hits across an inning of work to take the loss Monday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Brieske had been fairly sharp before Monday, as he entered the contest with a tidy 2.12 ERA over 17 innings of work. The righty had also only allowed one run this month, but the Cubs got to him in the ninth inning, pushing his ERA to 3.00 for the season. Brieske should stick in a high-leverage relief role for the Tigers despite the hiccup.
Aug 10, 2023
Earns two-inning save
Brieske picked up the save Thursday against the Twins. He allowed zero hits and zero walks while striking out zero over two perfect innings.
ANALYSIS
Brieske was called upon in the eighth inning to preserve a 3-0 lead and delivered two perfect innings to secure the save. With two of the team's last three saves, the 25-year-old has added another layer of complexity to Detroit's bullpen hierarchy.
Aug 6, 2023
Records first career save
Brieske retired the final batter in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Rays via strikeout to record the save.
ANALYSIS
Brieske came on for Alex Lange, who recorded the first two outs of the inning but also walked three batters and tossed 20 pitches. It's too early to say there's a change in the closer role for Detroit, as Lange leads the team with 17 saves and should have a little bit of job security. However, it seems like Brieske could be an option for the role if the Tigers decide to make a switch at some point.
Jul 30, 2023
Hurls two scoreless frames
Brieske did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three hits over two scoreless innings against the Marlins while striking out two.
ANALYSIS
Brieske allowed a leadoff single to Luiz Arraez to open the bottom of the first but managed to retire the next three batters, two by way of strikeout. The right-hander would come back out to pitch a scoreless second inning before being relieved by Joey Wentz to open the third. Brieske has not allowed a run in four of his six appearances this month and has issued just one walk over that six-game stretch to seven strikeouts.
Jul 28, 2023
Set for opener duty
Brieske will serve as the opener for Saturday's game against the Marlins, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske debuted as a starter but has pitched exclusively in relief in the majors this season, maxing out at 20 pitches in an appearance. It's uncertain who will follow Brieske in Saturday's contest. The Tigers could make a roster move to add an arm like Joey Wentz, or they could go with more of a bullpen game instead of an opener-primary situation.
Jul 8, 2023
Returns from injured list
Brieske (elbow) was activated off the 60-day injured list Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Brieske has been out all year due to elbow troubles but is ready to go after posting a 2.70 ERA across 11 rehab appearances. He pitched exclusively as a starter as a rookie last season, posting a 4.19 ERA in 15 starts, but the Tigers elected not to build him up to a starter's workload during his rehab assignment.
Jun 13, 2023
Rehab moved to Triple-A
Brieske's (elbow) rehab assignment was transferred to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske fared well in his two appearances with High-A West Michigan, throwing two scoreless innings while striking out two batters and walking one. He'll pitch an inning during Toledo's game Tuesday and will likely make a few additional rehab appearances before rejoining the Tigers.
Jun 13, 2023
Works in relief in rehab outing
Brieske (elbow) tossed a no-hit scoreless inning out of the bullpen in his most recent rehab outing Saturday with High-A West Michigan, issuing one walk in a 17-pitch appearance.
ANALYSIS
Though he was a full-time starter in the minors and majors in 2021 and 2022, Brieske has now made a pair of one-inning appearances in both of his first two rehab outings as he works his way back from the hydrodissection procedure he underwent in April to treat a nerve issue in his right elbow. The Tigers haven't clarified that they intend to bring Brieske back from the 60-day injured list as a reliever, but with rehabbing starters Tarik Skubal (elbow) and Matt Manning (foot) both on similar timelines for activation, Detroit might not have room in the rotation for Brieske anyway.
Jun 6, 2023
Beginning rehab assignment
Brieske (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A West Michigan, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske has been on the injured list all season, so he will likely require a handful of starts in the minors before he's ready to make his season debut. The 25-year-old righty posted a 4.19 ERA and 1.20 WHIP through 81.2 innings across 15 starts last season.
May 26, 2023
Throws live batting practice
Brieske (elbow) threw a live batting practice session earlier this week, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske came out of it well and is slated for another live BP on Saturday. He's been out all season following a nerve hydrodissection procedure on his right elbow in April but would seem to be nearing a rehab assignment.
May 16, 2023
Transferred to 60-day IL
The Tigers transferred Brieske (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Seth Elledge, claimed off waivers from the Mets, will fill the vacant 40-man roster spot. Brieske resumed throwing last week but remains out indefinitely with lingering elbow trouble.
May 9, 2023
Resumes throwing program
Brieske (elbow) resumed throwing Monday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Briekse has already experiencing a couple of setbacks, but he's on the right track again and will begin building up toward mound work. The 25-year-old has been out all season due to upper-arm trouble that was eventually diagnosed as ulnar never entrapment.
May 2, 2023
To resume throwing soon
Brieske (elbow) will resume a throwing program in one week, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske recently had to be shut down due to a setback with his right elbow, but it evidently wasn't a major bump in the road. He's been out all season with a ulnar nerve entrapment which required a hydrodissection procedure.
Apr 29, 2023
Shut down with elbow issue
Brieske (arm) halted his throwing progression Saturday after experiencing discomfort in his right elbow, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske had recently advanced to throwing live batting practice, about four weeks after being shut down with what was eventually diagnosed as right ulnar nerve entrapment. Now there is again no timetable for when he might be ready to make his season debut for Detroit.
Apr 25, 2023
Throws live BP session
Brieske (arm) completed a live BP session at the Tigers' spring training facility in Lakeland on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske is scheduled to throw another live session later in the week. The right-hander was diagnosed with right ulnar nerve entrapment and underwent a hydro dissection procedure to treat the issue in his right arm. There's no timetable for when Brieske will be able to return to the mound at this point.
Apr 18, 2023
Throwing bullpen session
Brieske (arm) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
It will be the first time he's thrown from the mound since he underwent a hydrodissection procedure to treat a nerve issue in his right arm. There remains no timetable for Brieske's return, but certainly Wednesday will be a step forward.
Apr 14, 2023
Throwing off mound soon
Brieske (arm) is slated to throw a bullpen session by the middle of next week, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske played catch Thursday for the first time since undergoing a hydrodissection procedure to treat a nerve issue in his right arm and will progress to mound work in a few days. There's no timetable yet for his return.
Apr 11, 2023
Will resume throwing this week
Brieske (arm) was diagnosed with right ulnar nerve entrapment Tuesday and received a nerve hydrodissection procedure to treat it. After a short rest period, he will resume throwing this week, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske was placed on the 15-day injured list to start the season with right arm discomfort, and now the details of his injury have been revealed. The Tigers don't have a timetable in place for the 25-year-old righty to make his season debut, but his return continues to get pushed back as he spends more and more time without throwing.
Apr 4, 2023
Still being evaluated
Brieske (arm) continues to receive further medical evaluation, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske is on the injured list to begin the year with right upper arm discomfort, and there's still no word as to when the right-hander will be ready to return. Because of the missed time and the lack of clarity it seems likely that he won't be ready to come off the injured list when first eligible.
Mar 30, 2023
Lands on 15-day injured list
Brieske was placed on the 15-day injured list by the Tigers on Thursday with right upper arm discomfort.
ANALYSIS
Brieske felt discomfort after his final Grapefruit League outing. The team is still seeking a more specific diagnosis for the righty and should be able to provide a clearer timetable once that's available.
Mar 29, 2023
Managing arm discomfort
The Tigers announced Wednesday that Brieske is experiencing right upper arm discomfort following his most recent Grapefruit League outing last Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske is slated to undergo further medical evaluation before the Tigers provide a more precise diagnosis of his injury, but Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press already reported earlier Wednesday that the 24-year-old right-hander is set to begin the season on the 15-day injured list. Expect Detroit to make that transaction official shortly before Thursday's season opener versus the Rays. With Brieske out of contention for a spot on the Opening Day roster, Garrett Hill will make the team as a long reliever and potential spot-starting option if Matthew Boyd (undisclosed) is forced to miss his first turn through the rotation this weekend in Tampa Bay.
Mar 29, 2023
Likely headed to injured list
Brieske will likely start the year on the injured list, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not yet known what will cause Brieske to miss time. The right-hander was considered a potential starter to begin the year for the Tigers, but that obviously won't take place now. The 24-year-old held his own in 15 starts with Detroit in 2022 with a 4.19 ERA and 54:25 K:BB over 81.2 innings.
Mar 21, 2023
Option to fill in as starter?
With Michael Lorenzen (groin) uncertain to make his final Grapefruit League start, per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, Brieske could be an option to fill the fifth rotation spot to begin the regular season.
ANALYSIS
Lorenzen is projected to be the team's regular No. 5 starter, but his groin strain has his status up in the air heading into the regular season. The Tigers are lined up to use their fifth starter April 4 against Houston, so Brieske or Joey Wentz may be needed if Lorenzen can't go. Brieske made 15 starts for Detroit last year and compiled a 4.19 ERA across 81.2 innings.
Mar 19, 2023
Struggling this spring
Brieske, who allowed two runs across two innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, has a 9.35 ERA this spring.
ANALYSIS
Brieske has allowed nine earned runs across 8.2 innings this spring and home runs have been an issue, as he's allowed four of them so far. The righty had a decent 4.19 ERA across 15 starts for the Tigers as a rookie last year, though he's ticketed for a long-relief role this season. He'll be off the fantasy radar unless he picks up some starts down the road, and he'll need to pitch better than he has this spring to be effective.
Feb 21, 2023
Possible bullpen option
Brieske may begin the year in Detroit's bullpen after working exclusively as a starter in 2022, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske made 15 starts for the Tigers last year and compiled a decent 4.19 ERA to go with a 1.20 WHIP. However, Detroit was decimated by injuries, and the likes of Eduardo Rodriguez, Matthew Boyd and Spencer Turnbull appear to now be healthy heading into camp. That trio, along with Matt Manning and Michael Lorenzen, seem like favorites for rotation spots. That would push Brieske into a relief role, though he could definitely push to start again at some point during the year.
Nov 8, 2022
Back to throwing
Detroit announced Tuesday that Brieske (forearm) is fully healthy and participating in his normal offseason program, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske went down with forearm soreness in July and experienced biceps tendinitis while going through his rehab program, but he's now healthy after he missed the final three months of 2022. The young right-hander had a 4.19 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 54:25 K:BB across 81.2 innings during his rookie campaign last year, and he should be in the mix for a rotation spot at spring training.
Sep 17, 2022
Done for season
Brieske (right forearm soreness) will not return this season, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
His rehab is nearly done, but he's run out of time to make a responsible return to the big-league rotation. Brieske, 24, had a 4.19 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 54 strikeouts in 81.2 innings over 15 starts in the majors this year as a rookie.
Sep 16, 2022
Completes bullpen session
Brieske (biceps) threw a bullpen session with no issues, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander has been sidelined by forearm soreness and biceps tendinitis since late July, but it appears he's now fully past the injuries. The Tigers must now decide whether to continue ramping up Brieske's workload so he can take the mound over the final couple weeks of the season, or if he should transition straight to his offseason program. The 24-year-old had a 4.19 ERA in 15 starts for Detroit prior to the injuries, but even if he returns this year he won't be built up enough to reclaim that role.
Aug 20, 2022
Playing catch
Brieske (forearm/biceps) is playing catch and doing well, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske has been out since mid-July, first with forearm soreness and then with biceps tendinitis. He'll have the chance to return in September if he continues to trend in the right direction.
Aug 10, 2022
Transferred to 60-day IL
Brieske (forearm/biceps) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske was recently pulled off his rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo after experiencing symptoms of right biceps tendinitis, and he'll be ineligible to rejoin the Tigers until at least late September after shifting to the 60-day IL. It's not yet clear whether the right-hander will be able to return prior to the end of the regular season.
Aug 9, 2022
Suffering from biceps tendinitis
Manager A.J. Hinch said Brieske (forearm) has been pulled off his rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo and won't be activated from the 15-day injured list this week after experiencing symptoms of right biceps tendinitis following his most recent start Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
The fact that Brieske's injury is being characterized as tendinitis rather than a strain suggests he isn't dealing with anything too severe, but the Tigers are still likely to take a cautious approach with the rookie pitcher during a non-contending season. He'll presumably be shut down for at least a few days before the Tigers determine if he's fit to resume a throwing program. With Brieske not coming off the IL this week like the Tigers had planned, the team will need to break in a new pitcher into the rotation Friday against the White Sox.
Aug 9, 2022
Won't start Thursday after all
Brieske (forearm) is no longer on track to return from the 15-day injured list Thursday, as Garrett Hill is scheduled to start the Tigers' series finale with the Guardians that day, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Since Brieske completed his second rehab start at Triple-A Toledo last Friday, he should be available to pitch for the Tigers as soon as Wednesday, if the big club chooses to keep him on a four-day rest schedule. The Tigers haven't indicated that Brieske has suffered any sort of setback in his recovery from a right forearm injury, but he looks like he'll get some extra rest before he makes his return from the IL. Brieske could still be an option to start any of the Tigers' three games this weekend in Chicago versus the White Sox.
Aug 8, 2022
Trending toward Thursday return
The Tigers are expected to activate Brieske (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to start Thursday's series finale with the Guardians, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske had previously looked to be on track to return to the rotation as early as Wednesday, but the Tigers will instead have Tyler Alexander and Drew Hutchison take the mound for the first two games of the series with Cleveland to afford the rookie right-hander one additional day of rest. In his most recent rehab start Friday at Triple-A Toledo, Brieske struck out eight over 4.1 innings of one-run ball and built up to 66 pitches.
Aug 6, 2022
Could return Wednesday
Brieske (forearm) could start Wednesday against the Guardians, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske hasn't pitched at the big-league level since July 12 due to forearm soreness, but he's ready to go after making a pair of rehab starts. His most recent outing, which came Friday for Triple-A Toledo, saw him strike out eight batters and walk none while allowing one run on three hits in 4.1 frames.
Jul 31, 2022
Starts rehab assignment
Brieske (forearm) began a rehab assignment Sunday for Triple-A Toledo and struck out two while allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks over three innings.
ANALYSIS
Brieske was making his first appearance at any level since July 12 after the Tigers moved him to the 15-day injured list coming out of the All-Star break due to right forearm soreness. The Tigers were looking to manage the rookie's workload anyway, so the injury doesn't seem to be a major concern. He tossed 45 pitches Sunday and will likely need to get ramped up with at least one more outing at Triple-A before slotting back into the big-league rotation.
Jul 21, 2022
Placed on 15-day IL
Brieske was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right forearm soreness.
ANALYSIS
Brieske will now miss a couple weeks while nursing the forearm soreness, being placed on the IL retroactive to July 18. The right-hander had been on a roll prior to the injury, producing three consecutive quality starts prior to the All-Star break. Jose Cisnero was reinstated from the bereavement list Thursday and will replace him on the active roster.
Jul 15, 2022
Not pitching this weekend
Brieske won't start as scheduled Sunday against the Guardians in order to manage his workload ahead of the second half of the season, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander lined up to start Detroit's final game before the All-Star break Sunday in Cleveland, but manager A.J. Hinch will instead employ a bullpen game. Brieske has been a solid starter in his first taste of big-league action this year, as he has a 4.19 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 54:25 K:BB across 81.2 innings (15 starts). The 24-year-old also made two starts with Triple-A Toledo before being promoted, and he's on pace to crush his career high of 106.2 innings, which he set in 2021. Brieske will receive an extended break heading into the intermission before likely re-entering the Tigers' rotation next weekend.
Jul 12, 2022
Collects third win
Brieske (3-6) allowed three runs on five hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out four in six innings to earn the win over the Royals on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Brieske turned in his third straight quality start and his second consecutive win. All three runs against him came in the first two innings before he settled in, facing just one batter over the minimum over his last four frames. It appears the rookie right-hander is starting to find some stability in the middle of his first big-league season, as he's covered at least six innings in five of his eight starts since the beginning of June. He owns a 4.19 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 54:25 K:BB through 81.2 innings in 15 starts overall. Brieske is on track to start Sunday versus the Guardians in the Tigers' last game before the All-Star break.
Jul 8, 2022
Dazzles in win Thursday
Brieske (2-6) pitched 6.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the White Sox. He allowed two hits and a walk, while striking out four.
ANALYSIS
Chicago trotted out the red-hot Dylan Cease, but Brieske was up for the duel. This was the third time this season the rookie has allowed zero runs in a start, with the other two coming in consecutive outings June 11 and June 16. The two hits were also the fewest he's allowed in a game. Brieske only has 50 strikeouts across 75.2 innings, so he's not overpowering hitters, but he's been reasonably effective with a 4.16 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. He'll look to carry some positive momentum into his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Royals.
Jul 2, 2022
No-decision in quality start
Brieske didn't factor into the decision during Saturday's 4-3 victory over Kansas City, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Brieske rebounded nicely from a two-run first-inning to only permit one more run while pitching at least six innings for the fourth time in 13 turns. He could've gone deeper with an efficient 82 pitches through the six frames but manager A.J. Hinch opted to turn to the bullpen with his team behind and the top of Kansas City's order due up. The performance was a nice rebound from nine total runs allowed during his previous two starts, and Brieske will look to keep it going with a start projected for midweek against the White Sox.
Jun 26, 2022
Chased in fourth inning
Brieske allowed five runs on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Brieske had trouble in the third inning with a solo home run from Carson Kelly and a Christian Walker sacrifice fly. The struggles continued into the fourth, as Arizona scraped together three more runs, all of which went onto Brieske's line after reliever Alex Lange allowed two inherited runners to score. The Tigers' offense bounced back to get the rookie starter off the hook, but that was the only silver lining from another ugly start. Brieske has allowed at least four runs in three of his last six outings, and he now owns a 4.55 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 43:20 K:BB through 63.1 innings in 12 starts. With two off days next week, he should have an extra day to regroup before a projected home start against the Royals.
Jun 21, 2022
Falls at Fenway Park
Brieske (1-6) allowed four runs on six hits across five innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Red Sox. He had no walks and struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Fenway Park is a tough place to pitch for rookies, though Brieske looked OK through three innings with just one run allowed. Things were a bit more dicey in the fourth, when he allowed two singles followed by a three-run home run by Trevor Story. Despite the setback and the rough win-loss record, Brieske has still pitched decently overall with a 4.07 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 59.2 innings. He'll look for a better outing in his next scheduled start Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Jun 16, 2022
Throws seven shutout innings
Brieske allowed three run and two walks with six strikeouts in seven shutout innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Brieske earned his third quality start in 10 games this year with his most dominant performance yet. He's now gone 12.2 innings in his last two starts without allowing a run, though Gregory Soto's blown save Thursday denied Brieske a second straight win. In 54.2 innings overall. the rookie has a 3.79 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 37:17 K:BB. He's lined up for a road start in Boston next week.
Jun 12, 2022
Picks up first win
Brieske (1-5) earned a win against Toronto on Saturday, allowing no runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking none in 5.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Brieske earned his first win of the year Saturday, throwing 56 of 89 pitches for strikes. It was his first game of the season where he did not allow either a walk or an earned run. The young righty has steadily improved his ERA over the last three games, as it now sits at 4.34 thanks to a 1.54 ERA in two June appearances. He'll look to keep things going in the right direction in his next appearance.
Jun 4, 2022
Best start of MLB career
Brieske (0-5) gave up two earned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings Saturday against the Yankees. He took the loss.
ANALYSIS
This was a very good performance by Brieske, especially considering the offense he was up against, but he got no run support. Saturday was Brieske's best statistical start of his big-league career, and the average velocity on all of his pitches spiked compared to his season averages. He sat 94.6 mph with his fastball (94.2 mph season average) and touched 96 mph. Similarly, his changeup averaged a firmer 83.5 mph (81.1 mph season average). His next chance projects to come next weekend at home against the Blue Jays.
May 30, 2022
Records no-decision Monday
Brieske allowed four runs on six hits across 5.2 innings and did not factor into the decision in Monday's win over the Twins. He walked two and struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Brieske is still searching for his first MLB win, as he's now 0-4 with three no-decisions across his first seven starts. The righty was done in by home runs, as he served up three long balls that accounted for all the runs against him. It was the fourth time he's allowed multiple homers in a start, which is a trend Brieske will need to stop if he hopes to lower his 5.25 ERA. The rookie will again seek his first career win in his next scheduled start, which is slated to be a tough matchup with the Yankees on the road Saturday.
May 24, 2022
Loses again Tuesday
Brieske (0-4) allowed two runs on six hits across four innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Twins. He walked one and struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Brieske pitched OK, though he needed 90 pitches to get through four innings, so he wasn't able to go very deep in the contest. He was also outdueled by Sonny Gray, who tossed seven shutout innings, and the Tigers fell 2-0 with just five hits as a team. Brieske at least bounced back after allowing two long balls and six runs in his last start, but his first MLB win remains elusive. The rookie will carry a 5.04 ERA into his next scheduled start Sunday against the Guardians.
May 17, 2022
Has first rough outing
Brieske (0-3) allowed six runs on nine hits across 5.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Rays. He walked one and struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Coming into Tuesday, Brieske had allowed no more than three runs in any of his four starts while going five or more innings each time. He reached the five-inning mark again in his fifth start, but the righty was hit around a bit for the first time in his young MLB career. Home runs continued to be a bit of an issue for Brieske, as he allowed multiple long balls for the third time already in his rookie campaign. The 24-year-old may have more tough outings ahead if he can't keep the ball in the park. Brieske will carry a 5.13 ERA into his next scheduled start Sunday against the Guardians.
May 12, 2022
Logs quality start Thursday
Brieske allowed three runs (two earned) across six innings and did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Athletics. He walked three and struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Brieske pitched reasonably well for the fourth straight time to begin his rookie campaign, though he has two losses and two no-decisions to show for it. The righty went exactly five innings in each of his previous three starts, so this was a new high-water mark for innings. Brieske has also allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his four outings, which has propelled him to a solid 3.86 ERA for the season. The 24-year-old will look to keep it up and maybe earn his first MLB win in his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Rays.
May 7, 2022
Handed loss in Houston
Brieske (0-2) allowed three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings Friday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
All three runs against Brieske came in the second inning when he coughed up back-to-back homers to Chas McCormick and Martin Maldonado. He's now tossed exactly five innings in each of his first three career MLB starts. The 24-year-old rookie saw his ERA climb to 4.20 with a 9:7 K:BB. Brieske is currently in line to face the Athletics at home next week.

Quiets Dodgers over five innings
Brieske did not factor into the decision in Saturday's win over the Dodgers. He allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings.
ANALYSIS
It wasn't the most dominant effort -- Brieske only had three swinging strikes on 90 pitches -- but five innings of one-run ball against this team (in Los Angeles no less) is impressive for a 24-year-old rookie. The right-hander now has a 3.60 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in his first 10 innings. Brieske has allowed a homer both times out so far and has served up three homers total, and he will need to get the long ball in check in a hurry to enjoy similar results moving forward.

Starting Saturday
Brieske is starting Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske's first major-league game start came in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies, and he allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three in five innings to take the loss. The right-hander will make another turn through the rotation since Casey Mize (elbow) and Matt Manning (shoulder) remain on the injured list, but Brieske has a tough matchup against one of the top lineups in baseball.

Takes loss in debut
Brieske (0-1) suffered the loss against Colorado in Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, tossing five innings and allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three.
ANALYSIS
Brieske didn't pitch terribly in his first big-league start, but a pair of Colorado homers accounted for three runs against him, which was enough to tag him with a loss. The right-hander yielded only one hit aside from the long balls but didn't miss many bats with only three punchouts. Brieske's opportunity to start was partly due to the Tigers playing a doubleheader, so it's unclear what his role will be moving forward.

Called up for big league debut
Brieske's contract was selected from Triple-A Toledo on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
It was reported Thursday that Brieske would be called up this weekend, and the Tigers made the move official Saturday. He will make his big league debut the same night, as he has been announced as the starter for the second game of Detroit's twin bill against Colorado.

Slated to debut Saturday
Brieske will have his contract selected by the Tigers on Saturday and start at home against the Rockies, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brieske has made two appearances at Triple-A Toledo this year and has struck out nine while giving up five runs in 10 innings. The right-hander will make his major-league debut as Saturday's starter, but his status on the big-league roster following the outing will likely depend on when Matt Manning (shoulder) and Casey Mize (elbow) are cleared to return from the injured list.
