Witt went yard in the sixth inning, accounting for the only runs the Royals mustered against Astros starter Jose Urquidy. Prior to Friday, Witt had gone 0-for-14 in his last four contests, so it's positive to see him break the slump in a big way, even if it had little impact on the game. The 21-year-old is slashing .227/.269/.443 with seven homers, 27 RBI, 24 runs scored, seven stolen bases, 13 doubles and three triples in 197 plate appearances, but he's also striking out at a 25.4 percent clip while walking at just a 4.1 percent rate.

Witt notched an RBI double in the first inning and another one in the third frame before later adding a third double in the seventh. The three-hit effort was his second straight and he has produced multiple hits three times in his last five contests. Over that stretch, Witt has batted .435 with six extra-base hits including two homers, eight RBI, five runs and a stolen base. The rookie seems to rounding into form as the calendar turns to June.

Witt's seen more time at his natural shortstop position lately as part of the ripple effect of Michael Taylor (illness) being out, but he might have to compete with the hot-hitting Emmanuel Rivera at third base once Taylor's healthy again.

The 21-year-old is slashing .219/.248/.324 with a home run, 10 RBI, 10 runs scored and five stolen bases through 109 plate appearances this season.

Witt hit leadoff for the second time in three games, and he may get a longer look in that spot with Edward Olivares (quadriceps) on the injured list. Witt opened the game with a single, stole second with two outs and then scored on a Ryan O'Hearn single. Through seven games in May, Witt is 6-for-22 (.272), cooling down slightly after ending April with hits in nine straight contests. Overall, the top prospect is slashing .229/.260/.333 with a home run, five steals, seven RBI and 10 runs scored across his first 100 major-league plate appearances.

Witt went yard off Dakota Hudson in the second inning for his first major-league home run. After walking in the sixth, he drove in a run on a single and came around to score in the five-run seventh. The 21-year-old has an 11-game hitting streak, compiling a .341/.386/.488 batting line and three stolen bases in that span. He seems to be finding his way at the big-league level.

Witt is back in the lineup Monday, starting at third base and batting seventh against the Cardinals.

After missing Sunday's loss to the Yankees with wrist soreness, the rookie will be ready to go for Monday's contest. Over the first 10 games of the season, Witt only had five hits, but he's now rattled off a nine-game hitting streak. The hot stretch has raised his batting average from .128 to .216, but the 21-year-old is still searching for his first MLB homer.

Witt was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees while he tends to a wrist injury, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

The infielder has shown off his speed with four stolen bases in five attempts while adding a .206/.229/.294 slash line with five RBI and six runs scored in 70 plate appearances. He has four doubles and a triple, but Witt has yet to hit his first major-league home run.

The rookie's average was at .128 after the first 10 games of his career, but the hitting streak has it back above the Mendoza-line at .203. It's possible he'll find his way back up to the top of the order if he can stay hot.

The two-hit game was the second of the top prospect's career and Witt has now strung together a modest three-game hitting struck that's boosted a still-disappointing slash line to .184/.216/.286. The 21-year-old logged 29 thefts in 124 minor-league games last season and will be a bigger stolen base threat once he can get on base more consistently.

Witt was dropped to seventh in the order Thursday against the Twins, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

He had not hit lower than third in the order this season, but the results haven't been there. Witt is hitting .128 with zero home runs, one steal and 13:1 K:BB in 10 games. Nicky Lopez was bumped up to leadoff while Whit Merrifield shifts to second in the lineup.

Hitting second in a strong top half of the Royals' order should continue to give Witt chances to contribute in all five standard fantasy categories.

Witt is still just 21 years old and has only played 160 games as a professional, but he has a very good chance of justifying that faith right away, as he hit .290/.361/.575 with 33 homers and 29 steals in 123 games in the upper minors last season.

The Royals formally announced Tuesday that Witt has made their Opening Day roster.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network previously reported over the weekend that Witt would be included on the Royals' Opening Day roster, but the team waited a few days to make the matter official. Witt has seen the bulk of his minor-league action at shortstop, but he'll be installed as the Royals' everyday starter at third base after playing the position throughout the spring. The 21-year-old answered any questions about his readiness for the big leagues by mashing during Cactus League play, as he carries a .406/.441/.781 slash line into Tuesday's spring finale against the Brewers.

Witt tore through the upper minors last season, hitting .290/.361/.575 with 33 homers and 29 steals split between the two highest levels. He's carried that momentum through to this spring, hitting .407/.448/.741 in 10 Cactus League games. A shortstop by trade, Witt is expected to open the year as the Royals' third baseman, with Adalberto Mondesi occupying his primary position.

Witt split time between Double-A and Triple-A last season, combining for a .290/.361/.576 slash line, 33 home runs, 29 stolen bases, 97 RBI and 99 runs scored across 123 games.

Witt went 3-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, three RBI and three runs for Triple-A Omaha against Iowa on Wednesday.

He also homered and drove in four on Tuesday, continuing his ongoing demolition of Triple-A pitching. Witt is now batting .299/.356/.628 with 11 homers and seven steals since his promotion -- an even better line than what we saw from him in Double-A earlier this season. Fantasy managers have got to be champing at the bit to get him into their lineups, considering that Witt has put up 27 homers and 21 steals across 93 games in the minors this season.

Witt has homered five times and stolen three bases in 15 games since his promotion to Triple-A Omaha, posting a .290/.338/.565 line in the process.

The mega-prospect's full minor-league line for the season is now .294/.363/.569 with 21 homers, 17 steals, 60 RBI and 60 runs. He's even trimmed his strikeout rate from 24 percent Double-A to 21.6 percent in Triple-A. Just 21 years old, Witt looks ready for the big leagues, but the date of his eventual promotion remains an open question. At one point this spring, it seemed likely that he'd spend the majority of the campaign with the Royals, but as things stand now, it seems like he may not get called up until rosters expand in September. Whenever he does get the call, he could make an instant impact.

Witt was promoted to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.

Witt missed a few days with an ankle injury earlier in July, but he's slashed .267/.389/.667 with three home runs, nine RBI, six runs and a stolen base in his seven appearances since returning to action. The 21-year-old will now get to face higher level competition and could join the major-league club at some point if he continues to perform well.

Witt (ankle) is expected to return to the lineup at Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports.

Witt tweaked his ankle in Sunday's game and was removed from the contest, but his early exit was considered precautionary due to a cramp. The 21-year-old said Monday that he's doing fine, and it doesn't appear as though his injury will force him to miss additional time. The shortstop has slashed .345/.406/.612 with six home runs, three triples, seven doubles, 27 RBI, 22 runs and seven RBI across 29 games since June 1.

Witt exited Sunday's game at Double-A Northwest Arkansas with a right ankle injury.

Witt suffered the injury while fielding a grounder in the third inning, and he was immediately removed from the game as a result. The 21-year-old had recorded five RBI across his three appearances leading up to Sunday's contest, but he went 0-for-2 prior to his exit. He'll have a chance to rest during the Double-A club's scheduled off day Monday, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to return to action Tuesday.

Witt's muted start to the season at Northwest Arkansas looks to be a distant memory at this point. After supplying his fifth consecutive multi-hit effort Sunday, Witt is holding down a .343/.405/.672 slash line in June, which has elevated his season-long OPS to a robust .913. The Royals have yet to tip their hand when Witt might be in line for a promotion to Triple-A Omaha, or perhaps directly to the big club.

Witt has been heating up of late with a three-homer game on Sunday and two more hits Tuesday night. His OPS at Double-A has crept up to .800 as he gets more comfortable at the level.

It's unclear whether the Royals will consider calling Witt up soon, or wait until later in the year, but he's starting to make his case, and the power/speed combo makes him worth a speculative add if you have the roster space.

Though he generated hype in spring training about potentially bypassing the higher levels of the minors entirely to break camp with the big club, Witt was ultimately assigned to Double-A to begin the season. He's reaching base at a modest .307 clip through 75 plate appearances, and he only had one extra-base hit prior to Sunday. Witt has at least excelled on the basepaths, going 7-for-10 in steal attempts.

The Royals plan to have Witt begin the minor-league season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Kansas City's decision to send Witt to Double-A rather than Triple-A Omaha shouldn't have much bearing on when the prized prospect gets a big-league call-up, which will likely come at some point this summer. Since Witt has yet to make his debut in affiliated ball, the Royals may just want to see how he fares against high-level minor-league competition for a period of time before summoning him to the majors. Witt has been developed as a shortstop up to this point, but since Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) will have that position locked down once activated from the injured list, the 20-year-old may get some exposure to second base as well as the outfield during his time at Northwest Arkansas.

Witt will spend some time in the outfield over the next few weeks as he looks to expand his defensive versatility, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Despite receiving a considerable amount of hype throughout camp, Witt will be opening the season in the minors, hardly a surprise given that he's played all of 37 games at the professional level, all in rookie ball. One of the issues regarding his eventual ascension to the big leagues, which could come later this year if he looks good in the minors, is what position he'll play, as he shares his primary spot (shortstop) with one of the Royals' best young players, Adalberto Mondesi. Moving one of them to second is the most obvious solution, as Nicky Lopez hasn't looked like an everyday player, though showing the ability to play somewhere in the outfield will give Witt additional paths to playing time.

The second overall pick of the 2019 draft primarily plays shortstop, but Moore made clear Witt can also play second base, third base and center field. Kansas City's decision could get more difficult if he continues to perform well over the final two weeks of camp.

Witt, who turns 21 in June, has been the talk of Royals camp and has earned glowing reviews from those inside and outside the organization. While he lacks experience in a full-season league, the normal rules may not apply here. Witt was a standout last summer at the alternate training site and looks like one of Kansas City's best position players this spring, so he could debut this season.

The second-overall pick in the 2019 draft should attend more than a few big-league camps by the time his career is over. He's not particularly close to pushing for an actual roster spot, however, as his only professional experience to date has come at the rookie-ball level.
