Blasts 30th homer
Witt went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Witt's 30th home run was a two-run shot in the seventh that closed the scoring for the Royals. Witt is now one stolen base from a landmark milestone as he'd become only the fourth player in major-league history with a 30-50 season, joining Eric Davis (1987), Barry Bonds (1990) and Ronald Acuna (2023). The second-year star is now slashing .275/.317/.493 with 30 homers, 96 RBI, 96 runs and 49 steals over 633 at-bats.

The shortstop has also struck out seven times in that span after a stretch with just one strikeout in 11 games. In addition to the high-end speed on the basepaths, he's recorded a .273/.315/.487 slash line with 29 home runs, 93 RBI and 94 runs scored over 155 games in his second campaign.

Witt went 3-for-6 with three walks, one RBI, one stolen base and three runs scored across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Witt did most of his damage with a 3-for-3 performance in the matinee game, as he was held hitless in the nightcap. The shortstop has cooled off just a bit in September, going 11-for-42 (.262) over his first 10 games this month. He's at a .275/.317/.494 slash line with 28 home runs, 42 steals, 87 RBI and 83 runs scored through 142 contests for the year.

Witt went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and two steals in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Witt came into Sunday's contest just 3-for-27 over his last six games but did have his second multi-hit effort in eight games this month. His steal total is now up to 41, which is currently tied with CJ Abrams for the fourth-most in baseball. He became just the second Royals' player ever to record 40 stolen bases at just age 23 or younger. Witt's been one of the few bright spots in what's been an otherwise disappointing season for the franchise. He's now slashing .272/.312/.494 with 28 home runs, 86 RBI, 80 runs and a 31:112 BB:K in 613 plate appearances.

The shortstop is up to 27 long balls, 38 steals, 82 RBI, 75 runs scored and a .276/.317/.501 slash line through 132 games. ANALYSIS
Witt has done it all in August, batting .340 (34-for-100) with eight home runs, nine steals and 21 RBI over 24 contests this month. He'd posted just fine ratios through July, but he's now at a strong .278/.318/.502 slash line with 26 long balls, 38 thefts, 81 RBI and 73 runs scored across 129 games overall. Witt should continue to perform well as the Royals' No. 2 hitter down the stretch.

He's up to 26 homers, 81 RBI, 37 stolen bases, 73 runs scored and a .280/.320/.506 slash line through 126 contests. ANALYSIS

Aug 18, 2023
Pops go-ahead homer
Witt went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 4-3 victory over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Witt's long ball off of Jameson Taillon in the top of the sixth inning was the big hit of the game, turning a one-run deficit for the Royals into a one-run advantage and they held serve the rest of the way. The young shortstop also added a single and scored an additional run. Witt has already reached 30 stolen bases and now needs just six home runs the rest of the way for a 30-30 campaign.
Aug 16, 2023

The long ball was Witt's 23rd of the season and his third in the last four games. He's now hit safely in 15 of his last 16 appearances, a stretch in which he's batting .441 with 7 homers, 25 RBI, 15 runs scored and six steals.

The second-year infielder boosted his season slash line to .277/.318/.492 with 22 homers, 51 extra-base hits and 64 runs scored through 117 games.
Aug 12, 2023

Witt went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Cardinals.

Since the beginning of July, the young superstar has a .331 average, nine home runs, 32 RBI, 18 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. It's a shame that the ridiculously talented Witt is tied to a franchise that's on pace to finish with more than 100 losses for the third time in six seasons.
Aug 9, 2023
Swipes two bags in win
Witt went 1-for-5 with two steals in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Red Sox.

Aug 6, 2023
Receives breather Sunday
Witt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.
ANALYSIS
Witt started the past 14 games and had a 1.079 OPS with four homers, five steals and 16 RBI during that span, and he'll receive a well-deserved day off Sunday. Maikel Garcia will shift to shortstop while Matt Duffy receives a start at the hot corner.
Aug 5, 2023

Witt went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Friday's 7-5 victory over the Phillies.

Aug 4, 2023
Stays hot with three hits

Witt singled in his first at-bat before coming around to score the Royals' first run of the game. He then took Carlos Carrasco deep in his next trip to the plate and added another insurance run in the eighth with his third hit of the day. The shortstop has now recorded multiple hits in four of his last six games to go along with 13 RBI, seven runs scored and three stolen bases. He's hitting .462 through three games in August.

The 23-year-old continues to rake, putting together his second straight four-hit effort and fifth multi-hit performance in the last seven games. Witt is slashing .330/.350/.649 in a blistering July with six of his 18 homers and six of his 29 steals on the season, along with 12 runs and 21 RBI in 23 contests.
Jul 29, 2023
Crushes walk-off grand slam
Witt went 4-for-5 with a double, a grand slam, six total RBI, two runs scored and a steal in Friday's victory over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Witt provided a memorable moment in front of the home crowd with his walk-off grand slam against Twins closer Jhoan Duran, capping off a four-hit effort. The 23-year-old stuffed the stat sheet and is now up to 17 home runs and 29 steals through 103 games this season. Expectations seemed almost impossibly high for Witt as a prospect breaking into the majors and yet he's managed to live up to those expectations. He's looking like a potential first-round pick in roto leagues next year.
Jul 24, 2023
Picks up steal in loss
Witt went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 8-5 loss to the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Witt was also caught stealing once. The shortstop hadn't attempted a theft in his previous eight games, though he also hit .176 with no walks in that span, limiting his chances to run. He has three multi-hit efforts since the All-Star break and is now slashing .253/.292/.443 with 28 steals, 16 home runs, 51 RBI and 50 runs scored through 99 contests.
Jul 20, 2023
Grabbing seat Thursday
Witt is absent from the lineup for Thursday's tilt against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
It's a rare day off for the young infielder. Maikel Garcia will shift over to shortstop and Nicky Lopez will get a start at third base while Witt receives some rest.
Jul 17, 2023
Homers again in win
Witt went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three RBI in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Witt knocked in a pair of runs with his second-inning triple and added the solo shot in the fifth. All four of his hits over the last three games have come for extra-bases, and he's on a seven-game hitting streak. The shortstop is slashing .259/.301/.463 with 16 long balls, 51 RBI, 50 runs scored and 27 stolen bases through 93 contests. He's also tied with Shohei Ohtani for the major-league lead with six triples.
Jul 16, 2023
Solid in twin bill
Witt went 2-for-8 with a solo home run and a double across both games of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Rays.
ANALYSIS
He's hit safely in 10 of 11 games in July, batting .357 with three homers, four stolen bases and nine RBI this month. It's another step forward after the talented shortstop had a strong June to offset his slower start to the season. Witt is slashing .257/.299/.449 with 15 homers, 27 steals, 48 RBI and 49 runs scored through 92 contests overall.
Jul 9, 2023
Double shy of cycle
Witt went 3-for-5 with one triple, a solo home run, an additional RBI and one steal in Saturday's 10-6 loss to the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Witt smashed his 14th home run of the season Saturday, a 431-foot shot to center off Eli Morgan in the seventh. The shortstop also added a single in the first and a triple in the fifth that plated Nicky Lopez to put him a double short of hitting for the cycle. However, he was unable to complete the feat, grounding out to the pitcher in the ninth inning. WItt possesses a rare blend of speed and power, ranking fourth in baseball in steals and fourth in homers among shortstops, making him an elite fantasy asset.
Jul 7, 2023
Picks up steal in loss
Witt went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 6-1 loss to the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Witt has collected three steals while batting .324 with a 2:11 BB:K over his last nine games. The shortstop was able to cross the plate in a productive first inning, but the Royals' offense couldn't scrape together any more runs after that. Witt is slashing .251/.294/.423 through 87 games this season, a nearly identical line to his 2022 numbers. He's added 13 home runs, 26 steals, 45 RBI, 47 runs scored, 13 doubles and four triples while consistently batting second most often in recent weeks.
Jul 5, 2023
Swats 13th homer
Witt went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 9-3 loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
He took Kenta Maeda deep in the fourth inning to get the Royals on the board, but they were already staring at 4-0 hole at that point. Witt has four multi-hit efforts in the last five games, and since the beginning of June the 23-year-old is slashing .307/.354/.430 with three of his 13 homers and eight of his 25 steals on the year.
Jul 4, 2023
Swipes two bags in loss
Witt went 2-for-5 with a double, a run, an RBI and two stolen bases in a loss to the Twins on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Witt has settled into the No. 2 spot in the order of late, as he's batted there in all but two of his 17 starts since June 16. The shortstop came into Monday with a modest two thefts during that span, but he boosted his season total to 25 with the pair of steals in the loss. Witt swiped 30 bags as a rookie last season and appears to be well on his way to surpassing that total as a sophomore.
Jun 26, 2023
Swipes bag in loss
Witt went 1-for-4 with a steal and a run scored in Sunday's loss to the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Witt singled to lead off the fourth and wound up stealing second before crossing home for the Royals' only run of the afternoon. The 23-year-old is now up to 23 steals on the year and is well on his way of surpassing the 30 steals he had in 150 games as a rookie last season. Witt has displayed some inconsistencies at the plate thus far, but has four hits over his last three games and is now slashing .247/.290/.426 with 12 homers, 38 RBI, 43 runs and a 19:67 BB:K over 334 plate appearances.
Jun 20, 2023
Hits homer, steals bag in loss
Witt went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and steal in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Witt hit a home run and stole a base in the same game for the third time this year. It was the 23-year-old's sixth multi-hit outing of June, and he's slashing .323/.373/.452 during that 16-game stretch. His overall slash line (.248/.289/.434) could still use some work, but Witt has 12 home runs and 22 stolen bases through 71 games (308 plate appearances), giving him one of the highest fantasy ceilings in MLB.
Jun 18, 2023
Drives in four
Witt went 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI in Saturday's 10-9 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Witt had a pair of two-run knocks, a double in the seventh inning and a single one frame later, to help the Royals erase a six-run deficit. This was his fifth multi-hit effort in his last 13 games, a span in which he's gone 17-for-51 (.333). The shortstop is still hitting just .247 on the year, but he's trending in the right direction. Witt has added ample counting stats with 11 home runs, 21 stolen bases, 35 RBI, 40 runs scored, 10 doubles and four triples through 69 games.
Jun 15, 2023
Stays warm with three hits
Witt went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Witt has maintained a hot bat in June, hitting .319 (15-for-47) over his last 12 games. He's driven in four runs over his last four contests as well. While a .244 batting average and .707 OPS aren't all that impressive, the talented shortstop is showing a few more flashes of potential lately. He's added 11 home runs, 21 stolen bases, 31 RBI and 40 runs scored over 67 contests this season.
Jun 14, 2023
Homer, two RBI in loss
Witt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Reds.
ANALYSIS
The 412-foot blast in the third inning was the 11th on the season for Witt and his first long ball since May 29. The star shortstop continues to put up solid counting stats despite underwhelming ratios. Witt is the only player in the American League with at least 10 home runs and 20 steals, and has done so in spite of a .237/.276/.422 slash line.
Jun 13, 2023
Walks thrice, adds steal
Witt went 0-for-2 with three walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Witt had gone 20 games without drawing a walk prior to Monday, though he was able to limit himself to 17 strikeouts over that span. He's striking out at a 20.9 percent rate while walking at a 5.0 percent clip in 2023, making marginal improvements in both areas over his 2022 numbers. The shortstop is also slashing .237/.277/.414 with 10 home runs, 21 steals, 28 RBI and 38 runs scored over 65 contests.
Jun 10, 2023
Joins 20-steal club
Witt went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Witt has swiped five bags over his last nine games, a span in which he's hit .250 (9-for-36) with a home run and two RBI. The theft was his 20th of the year, ranking him fourth in the majors. He's still having some trouble hitting consistently, as he's batting .234 on the year. Witt's added 10 home runs, 27 RBI, 37 runs scored, eight doubles and four triples. He's at virtually no risk of losing his place in the lineup, and the counting stats make up for mediocre ratios.
Jun 6, 2023
Adds another steal
Witt went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 9-6 loss to the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Witt has hit safely in seven of his last 11 games, and he's made the most of his trips on base with six steals in that span. The shortstop is up to 19 thefts in 23 attempts this season, putting him on track to breeze past the 30 steals he recorded as a rookie in 2022. He's batting just .233 with a .687 OPS, 10 home runs, 27 RBI and 37 runs scored as a near-everyday presence in the top half of the Royals' order.
Jun 4, 2023
Collects three hits, steals base
Witt went 3-for-5 with one run scored and one steal in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Witt snapped out of a minor slump, posting three singles after entering Saturday's game 2-for-20 (.100) in his last five appearances. The youngster has slashed .236/..272/.430 with 10 home runs and 18 stolen bases through 57 games. His 18 steals rank fourth in MLB, five of which have come in his last nine games.
May 31, 2023
Logs another steal
Witt went 0-for-4 with one RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Witt got the Royals on the board with a fielder's choice in the ninth inning, and he stole second but was left there to end the game. While he's gone just 1-for-16 over his last four games, he's also managed two steals in that span. The shortstop has gone 11 contests without a walk, striking out 13 times in that span. He's slashing just .228/.266/.430 with 10 home runs, 27 RBI, 35 runs scored and 17 steals through 55 games. The poor plate discipline has seen him hitting in the heart of the order recently after opening the year as the Royals' leadoff man.
May 29, 2023
Showcases power and speed
Witt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and one steal in Monday's 7-0 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Witt stole his 16th bag of the season and hit his 10th home run of the year. The only other players with double figures in each of those categories already is Ronald Acuna and Josh Lowe. Witt hit 20 long balls and stole 30 bags as a rookie last year, and the 22-year-old is on pace to shatter both of those marks in 2023, barring he stays healthy.
May 27, 2023
Huge effort not enough Friday
Witt went 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, three runs, five RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 12-10 loss to the Royals.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old very nearly willed Kansas City to a win, taking Patrick Corbin deep in the sixth inning and going yard off Erasmo Ramirez in the seventh, but the Royals' bullpen poured more gas on the fire than Witt could put out. He's enjoying a string finish to May, slashing .300/.321/.540 over the last 12 games with three homers, three steals, 10 runs and 10 RBI.
May 24, 2023
Steals another bag
Witt went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one steal in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Witt broke out of a mini-slump Tuesday, tallying a pair of singles after going 1-of-15 (.067) in his last four games. He showcased his elite speed, reaching on a bunt to lead off the fifth then stealing second before being driven in by Edward Olivares. After stealing 30 bases in 2022 (150 games), Witt has swiped 14 through 49 games while slashing .227/.266/.404.
May 22, 2023
Moved down to sixth in lineup
Witt is batting sixth for the Royals on Monday versus the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Witt has been the team's leadoff hitter almost exclusively this season and hadn't batted below third previously this year. The young infielder has managed just a .226/.267/.410 slash line this season and has a .581 OPS across his last 10 contests. Nick Pratto has been elevated to the leadoff spot for Kansas City.
May 17, 2023
Racking up steals
Witt went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a steal in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Padres.

Gets aboard four times Thursday
Witt went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk, one RBI and one run scored in Thursday's 13-10 loss to the Orioles.

The shortstop has gone 5-for-14 (.357) with three extra-base hits over three games in May. For the season, he's slashing .237/.281/.435 with five home runs, 13 RBI, 21 runs scored, five doubles and three triples through 32 games as the Royals' main leadoff hitter.

Goes yard in loss
Witt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Orioles.
ANALYSIS

The 23-year-old has yet to find some consistency on offense so far this season. He's now slashing .221/.264/.410 with five homers, 11 RBI, 18 runs, seven steals a 7:28 BB:K over 129 plate appearances.

ANALYSIS

For the season, the 22-year-old is slashing .260/.308/.466 with three homers, seven RBI, 11 runs scored, five stolen bases, two triples and two doubles through 19 games.
Apr 16, 2023
Three hits in three straight games
Witt went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-3 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Witt went from cold to hot in a hurry. He's gone 12-for-22 (.545) during his active five-game hitting streak, and he's added four stolen bases in that span. The shortstop's surge has him up to .298/.344/.474 with two home runs, five steals, six RBI and eight runs scored in 15 contests. The Royals' offense hasn't been very good behind him, which is hurting his counting stats, but there's still plenty to like from the talented 22-year-old when he's hitting like this.
Apr 15, 2023
Tallies three hits
Witt went 3-for-4 in Friday's 10-3 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS

While he didn't directly generate any run-scoring plays, it's good to see the shortstop swinging the bat well. He's up to a .269/.321/.423 slash line with two home runs, five stolen bases, six RBI and six runs scored through 14 contests.
Apr 13, 2023
Racks up three steals Wednesday
Witt went 3-for-5 with a triple, a run, an RBI and three stolen bases in a 10-1 victory versus Texas on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Witt singled and stole first base in the first inning, setting the tone for a fruitful evening for his fantasy managers. He knocked in a run with a triple his next time up, then singled and swiped both second and third base before scoring in the seventh frame. With his effort on the basepaths, the speedy young shortstop more than doubled his stolen-base total -- which jumped from two to five -- on the campaign. Witt started off slowly this season but is starting to pick up the pace, going 6-for-13 with three runs, two RBI and four thefts over his past three contests.
Apr 11, 2023
Nabs second steal
Witt went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base in Monday's loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Things looked promising for Kansas City when Witt began the contest with a single, subsequently stole second base and came around to score on an error. That would prove to be the high point of hope for the Royals, however, as Texas scored the game's next 11 runs. Witt at least gave his fantasy managers something to celebrate with his second theft of the campaign, which he's complemented with two homers and four RBI. However, the second-year shortstop has struggled overall with a .158/.238/.316 slash line through 11 contests.
Apr 8, 2023
Swats homer in victory
Witt went 1-for-4 with a homer in Saturday's win over San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Witt got the Royals on the scoreboard with his second homer of the season in the sixth off Sean Manaea. The shortstop also struck out twice, however, and has struggled to a .161/.235/.355 over the first nine games. It's just a matter of time until more hits start falling for Witt.
Apr 7, 2023
Not starting Friday
Witt isn't in the Royals' lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
After breaking his cold streak by going 2-for-5 with a home run Thursday, Witt will get a day to rest Friday. The young infielder will yield shortstop duties to Nicky Lopez, who will bat seventh.
Apr 6, 2023
Smacks first homer
Witt went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Thursday against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Witt took Trevor Richards yard in the eighth inning to tally his first homer of the season. He's had a slow start to the campaign overall, as he has just four hits across 29 plate appearances. Positively, he's struck out only five times in that span, so he should have more hits fall in soon.
Apr 3, 2023
Steals first base
Witt went 2-for-3 with a run, two RBI, one walk and one steal Monday against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
He got his first hits of the season and also stole his first base. Most encouragingly, Witt has a 3:3 K:BB in 16 plate appearances this season.
Apr 1, 2023
Hitless in first two games
Witt went 0-for-4 during Saturday's loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Witt has yet to pick up a hit in his first two games of the season. There's obviously plenty of time left in the season, but it's possible there's some rust to shake off after not getting regular playing time for Team USA during the World Baseball Classic in March. There's no reason to panic at this point, but it's a disappointing start for one of the most talented players in baseball.
Mar 15, 2023
Seeing limited time for USA
Witt has a hit in his only at-bat through two games for Team USA at the World Baseball Classic.
ANALYSIS
Witt has been a bench bat for the USA, but he was fortunate to log plenty of time in spring training before leaving for the international tournament. Over seven Cactus League games, he hit .389 (7-for-18) with four RBI, a stolen base and six runs scored. Witt showed enticing speed (30 steals) and power (20 home runs, 31 doubles) over 150 games as a rookie last year, and he is penciled in as the Royals' starting shortstop this season after spending a large part of 2022 at third base.
Oct 4, 2022
Achieves 30-steal season
Witt went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 5-2 extra-inning win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Witt has struggled a bit to begin October, going 2-for-13 with two walks and two steals in three games this month. The late surge on the basepaths was ultimately enough to earn him a 30-steal season as a rookie. He's also maintained a .254/.295/.431 slash line with 20 home runs, 80 RBI, 82 runs scored, 31 doubles and six triples through 148 contests.
Oct 2, 2022
Closing in on 30 steals
Witt went 1-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
The steal was Witt's 29th of the season, though he's gone just 3-for-6 on the basepaths since the start of September. He's still just one theft away from a 20-homer, 30-steal rookie season. The shortstop has added a .256/.296/.436 slash line with 80 RBI, 81 runs scored, 31 doubles and six triples while regularly batting second in the Royals' young lineup.
Sep 28, 2022
Gets Wednesday off
Witt is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Witt had started in every game for the Royals since Aug. 12, so he was probably overdue for a day off. His move to the bench comes while he's in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak, during which he's batting .364 with nine runs, eight RBI and a stolen base. Nicky Lopez will step in at shortstop for Witt.
Sep 22, 2022
Logs steal in win
Witt went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Twins.

Witt recorded his third straight multi-hit effort, and he's up to a 13-game hitting streak. During that longer span, he's batted .327 (17-for-52) with five doubles, six RBI, eight runs scored and two steals. The 22-year-old rookie has lifted his season slash line up to .254/.294/.439 with 20 home runs, 28 steals, 76 RBI and 77 runs scored in 139 contests. He's seeing regular time at his natural position of shortstop lately.
Sep 18, 2022
Knocks in two runs
Witt went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's victory over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Witt singled home MJ Melendez in the fifth inning and Hunter Dozier in the sixth. He also reached home on a Vinnie Pasquantino double in the fifth inning. Since Sept. 7, Witt has hits in eight of nine games, going 10-for-35. Despite that, his batting average has only increased three points to .249 during that span thanks in part to striking out five times.
Sep 7, 2022
Gets aboard thrice in win
Witt went 1-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Witt showed some patience at the plate Wednesday, which is solid given his 5.1 percent walk rate for the year. He attempted a steal in the first inning but was caught, only to successfully record a theft in the eighth. The rookie infielder has had some struggles with consistency at times, but he's at 20 home runs, 27 steals in 33 attempts, 70 RBI, 69 runs scored and a .246/.291/.438 slash line through 127 contests overall. He's hit safely in 14 of his last 18 games.
Sep 4, 2022
Three RBI in win
Witt went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Saturday's win against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Witt launched a three-run blast in the third that scored MJ Melendez and and Nicky Lopez. It was his 20th home run and his second in the last four days. Since ending an eight-game hit streak on Aug. 28, Witt has gone 4-for-28 with eight strikeouts. Despite that, the young shortstop has been productive on the basepaths and at the plate picking up five runs and five RBI during that span. Witt's season batting average sits at .248 after Saturday's contest.
Sep 1, 2022
Smacks 19th homer
Witt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Witt is closing in on a 20-20 season in his rookie year, as his homer Wednesday was his 19th of the year and his third in seven games. The infielder has already accumulated 26 steals in 30 attempts. He's up to a .251/.292/.446 slash line with 66 RBI, 67 runs scored, 22 doubles and six triples through 120 contests.
Aug 28, 2022
Records pair of steals
Witt went 1-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases, a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Witt walked, stole a base and scored in the Royals' three-run first inning. He'd get aboard again in the second with a single and added another steal, but the offense struggled to get anything else going in the contest. The rookie infielder has racked up six of his 26 steals in August, and he's tied with the Cardinals' Tommy Edman for fourth in the majors in thefts. Witt is riding an eight-game hitting streak that has lifted his slash line to .254/.297/.447 with 18 home runs, 64 RBI and 64 runs scored through 117 contests.
Aug 25, 2022
Swats big three-run homer
Witt went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 5-3 victory versus the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Witt's lone hit of the contest was a big one, as his seventh-inning, three-run blast to center field gave Kansas City a four-run lead. The long ball was his second in as many contests and extended his modest hitting streak to six games. Each of Witt's past three hits have gone for extra bases (two homers, one triple).
Aug 24, 2022
Homers and triples
Witt went 2-for-4 with a triple and a solo home run for a total of two runs scored in a 7-3 loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Witt's ability to get on base from the top third of the Royals lineup has been subpar in his rookie season, evidenced by a .294 OBP. However, the 22-year-old shortstop has flashed a rare combination of power and speed over the first 472 plate appearances of his young career. Witt now has 17 home runs to go along with six triples and 24 stolen bases in 2022.
Aug 23, 2022
Contributes steal in win
Witt went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 6-4 win over the White Sox.

The rookie infielder is slashing .250/.293/.431 with 16 homers, 24 steals in 28 attempts, 60 RBI and 60 runs scored through 113 contests overall.
Aug 20, 2022
Launches two-run homer
Witt went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's victory over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Witt launched a two-run shot in the third inning that scored MJ Melendez. It was his 16th homer of the year and his first since Aug. 3. After batting .294 in July, the rookie shortstop is batting .215 this month. He has gone 14-for-65 with 13 strikeouts and just two walks. It may be that Witt is just in a funk this month, but it could also be that pitchers have started to figure out the young star and are exploiting a weakness.
Aug 17, 2022
Logs 23rd steal
Witt went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 9-0 loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Witt singled and stole second in the fourth inning. He was one of two Royals runners to reach third base, but he was left on base. The rookie has been held without a hit in five of his last nine games, going 6-for-33 (.182) in that span. The slight slump has him down to a .251/.293/.430 slash line with 23 steals in 27 attempts, 15 home runs, 57 RBI and 57 runs scored through 443 plate appearances.
Aug 12, 2022

ANALYSIS
Witt didn't start Thursday, but he ran for Hunter Dozier in the seventh inning, and scored on a Nicky Lopez single. Through nine games in August, Witt's posted a .273/.314/.364 slash line with a home run, six RBI, six runs scored and a pair of steals. ANALYSIS
Witt singled, stole second and scored in the first inning and brought home the game-winning run with a single before scoring in the seventh for his second straight multi-hit effort. The 22-year-old is one of two players with 15 home runs and 20 thefts and could put together a strong closing third to his rookie campaign with a .308 average, two home runs and three stolen bases across his last seven games.
Aug 4, 2022
Solo homer in loss
Witt went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Witt launched a solo shot in the sixth inning, the only run scored for the Royals. It was Witt's 15th home run of the year. The rookie's batting average has been getting better each month. He hit .216 in April, .243 in May, .263 in June, and .294 in July. The result is a .255 batting average for the season. One problem Witt has yet to solve is how to cut down on strikeouts. He had more strikeouts than hits in each month except July and already has three strikeouts this month.
Aug 3, 2022
Quiet in return
Witt (hand) went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Tuesday's 9-2 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Witt has had a bumpy week or so with a hamstring injury preceding the hand injury that kept him out of Monday's contest. This was just his second hitless game in six since the All-Star break. The rookie is slashing ,252/.296/.447 with 14 home runs, 51 RBI, 51 runs scored and 20 stolen bases through 392 plate appearances. He should resume his role as the everyday shortstop if he can avoid further injury issues.
Aug 2, 2022
Returns to action Tuesday
Witt (hand) is batting second and playing shortstop Tuesday in Chicago, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The hand injury which sidelined Witt on Monday was considered minor so, to no surprise, the rookie is back in the lineup Tuesday. He's gone 5-for-19 with a double, a home run and four RBI in five games since the break.
Aug 1, 2022
Will not start Monday
Witt (hand) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
The injury Witt suffered Sunday is not believed to be serious, but it will prevent him from claiming a spot in Monday's starting lineup. Maikel Garcia will start at shortstop in Witt's place.
Jul 31, 2022
Injury not believed to be serious
Witt (hand) isn't believed to be dealing with a significant injury after leaving Sunday's game against the Yankees, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Witt was hit on his right hand in the top of the ninth inning and immediately replaced by a pinch runner, but he said that he was fine following his departure. The Royals didn't send him for X-rays, so he should be considered day-to-day ahead of Monday's game against the White Sox.
Jul 31, 2022
Exits after HBP
Witt exited Sunday's game against the Yankees in the top of the ninth inning after he was hit in the hand by a pitch, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

The 22-year-old is serving as the designated hitter and batting second Saturday.

While Witt isn't in Friday's lineup, manager Mike Matheny is optimistic Witt could return to the lineup sometime this weekend, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Jul 29, 2022
Remains on bench Friday
Witt (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.
ANALYSIS
It's the fifth straight game on the bench for Witt as he continues to manage soreness in his right hamstring. The 22-year-old was scheduled to go through a full pregame workout Thursday, though it's unclear exactly how he fared. The Royals opted to demote Emmanuel Rivera on Friday with Salvador Perez (thumb) returning from the injured list, which indicates the team isn't ready to place Witt on the shelf.
Jul 28, 2022
Still not starting
Witt (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Witt will be excluded from the starting nine for the fourth straight game, but he was reportedly able to do some running on the field Wednesday and still appears to have a chance to avoid a trip to the injured list. The Royals still elected to bring aboard Maikel Garcia from Double-A Northwest Arkansas as some added insurance in the middle infield while Witt tends to the hamstring injury, and Garcia will pick up his first MLB start at shortstop in Thursday's series opener. Witt could be available off the bench in a pinch-hitting capacity, though manager Mike Matheny hasn't confirmed as much.
Jul 27, 2022

Jul 26, 2022
Out again Tuesday
Witt (hamstring) is not starting Tuesday's game against the Angels, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Jul 25, 2022
Out of lineup Monday
Witt (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Monday versus the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Witt tweaked his hamstring Sunday and will now be unavailable for Monday's series opener. The exact nature of his injury remains to be seen and he is considered day-to-day for the time being. ANALYSIS

It's been a productive month at the plate as well, as the rookie infielder is slashing .296/.324/.408 in his last 17 contests. For the year, he's up to a .254 batting average with a .745 OPS, 13 home runs, 47 RBI and 49 runs scored through 373 plate appearances.

Homers, steals base in win
Witt went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a stolen base in a 3-1 win Thursday in Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Witt hit a solo blast in the fifth and added an infield single and a stolen base in the eighth. Over his last 10 games, the 22-year-old is hitting .381/.409/.571 with two homers and five stolen bases. Fellow rookie Julio Rodriguez is the only player in baseball that has more homers and more stolen bases than Witt.

Productive again in nightcap
Witt went 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in a 7-3 win over the Tigers in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
After going 2-for-4 with two steals in the matinee, Witt had plenty left in the tank for the nightcap. Three of his four hits produced a run in the second game, and he added his 16th steal of the year in the contest. The rookie has put together a seven-game hitting streak, going 13-for-30 (.433) with four multi-hit efforts in that span. The surge has him up to a .252/.297/.453 slash line with 12 home runs, 45 RBI, 45 runs scored, 18 doubles and five triples through 343 plate appearances.

He improved his season slash line to .243/.290/.444 with 44 runs scored and 34 extra-base hits through 338 plate appearances. Witt is 9-for-25 (.360) during his active six-game hitting streak.

Registers steal in return
Witt (hand) went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 4-3 win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Witt missed a couple of games after he was hit by a pitch on the hand Tuesday versus the Astros. He's hit safely in his last games, going 4-for-13 (.308) in that span. The rookie should be good to go for an everyday role at shortstop going forward. He's slashing .236/.285/.442 with 12 home runs, 13 steals, 42 RBI, 43 runs scored, 16 doubles and five triples through 78 contests.
Jul 8, 2022
Good to go Friday
Witt (hand) is starting at shortstop and batting third Friday against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Witt hasn't seen the field since suffering the hand injury late in Tuesday's contest, but he'll rejoin the lineup for Thursday's series opener in Cleveland. The 22-year-old is 3-for-21 with a home run, two walks, three RBI and two runs through five appearances in July.
Jul 7, 2022
Takes part in on-field workout
Witt (hand), who remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game in Houston, is scheduled to field grounders and take swings as the Royals look to gauge his availability moving forward, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Mike Matheny said that all scans conducted on Witt's right hand came back clean, but the club will wait and see how the star rookie responds to Thursday's on-field workout before a determination is made on when he might be ready to return to the lineup. Nicky Lopez is expected to fill in as the Royals' primary shortstop for however long Witt's absence may linger.
Jul 7, 2022
Remains out of lineup
Witt (hand) is not in the starting lineup Thursday versus the Astros, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Witt will be unavailable for a second straight contest after he was hit in the right hand by a pitch Tuesday. He remains day-to-day while Nicky Lopez takes over at shortstop again Thursday.
Jul 6, 2022
Not in Wednesday's lineup
Witt (hand) isn't starting Wednesday against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Witt suffered a hand injury Tuesday against the Astros but underwent X-rays that came back negative. He should be considered day-to-day for now, but Nicky Lopez will start at shortstop and bat ninth Wednesday.
Jul 6, 2022
X-rays return negative
Witt had X-rays on his hand come back negative after being struck by a pitch during Tuesday's loss to Houston, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old was unable to finish his plate appearance after being struck during the ninth inning -- he wasn't granted first base since he offered at the pitch -- but it appears he's avoided a serious injury. Witt launched his 12th homer earlier in the contest and finished 2-for-5 with three RBI. He could still undergo additional testing and should be considered day-to-day.
Jul 5, 2022
Exits Tuesday's game
Witt was removed from Tuesday's game against the Astros after being struck by a pitch on the hand, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Witt went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI before being struck by the ball on the hand while offering at a pitch during the ninth inning, and he was unable to finish the plate appearance. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, and the 22-year-old should be considered day-to-day heading into Wednesday's contest.
Jun 28, 2022
Snags 12th steal
Witt went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Monday's 10-4 loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
The rookie is putting the finishing touches on a solid June. Through 24 games on the month, Witt has a .264/.324/.505 slash line with five of his 11 homers and five of his 12 steals, in addition to 14 RBI and 17 runs. While there could be more growing pains ahead, the 22-year-old could also be gearing up for a very big second half.
Jun 27, 2022
Swipes bag in loss
Witt went 0-for-1 with three walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
This was the first three-walk game of Witt's career, and the third time in five games he's gotten on base multiple times. The shortstop has hit .264 with an .844 OPS in June, lifting his season numbers to a .242 batting average and .759 OPS through 287 plate appearances. He's added 11 home runs, 11 stolen bases, 37 RBI, 40 runs scored, 16 doubles and five triples. Witt's walking at a 6.0 percent rate -- that's a bit lower than the 9.3 percent clip he posted across Double-A and Triple-A in 2021, but it's power over patience that makes the 22-year-old an increasingly reliable option in fantasy.
Jun 26, 2022
Solo shot in loss
Witt went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to Oakland.
ANALYSIS
Witt put the Royals on the board in the bottom of the third on a solo shot off Jared Koenig. The rookie has a hit in back-to-back games after picking up two on Saturday and has a total of six hits in his last four games. The home run was Witt's 11th of the year and goes along with 10 steals and a .243/.286/.468 slash line.
Jun 22, 2022
First career multi-homer game
Witt went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, a double, four RBI and a walk in Tuesday's 12-11 extra-innings win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Normally, a two-homer game from a big-name rookie would be the headline, but Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani put on an ever bigger show with a pair of long balls and eight RBI. Nonetheless, this was one of the best games of Witt's young career, and it ended a seven-game homer drought. The 22-year-old rookie is up to 10 homers, 36 RBI, 38 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and 16 doubles through 65 contests while adding a .243/.288/.458 slash line.
Jun 12, 2022
Homers in three-hit effort
Witt went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Witt went deep in the seventh inning off Orioles reliever Keegan Akin. An off day Saturday did nothing to stall Witt's burgeoning hot streak -- he's 10-for-17 (.588) in his last five games, including three extra-base hits. He's lifted his season slash line to .244/.291/.456 with eight homers, 30 RBI, 34 runs scored, 10 stolen bases, 14 doubles and four triples through 57 contests.
Jun 11, 2022
Sitting out Saturday
Witt is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Witt tallied two hits in each of his last three games, but manager Mike Matheny decided it was time to give him his first day off of the month. Nicky Lopez will man the shortstop position in Witt's place.
Jun 10, 2022
Nabs two thefts
Witt went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, an RBI and two steals in Thursday's 7-5 win over Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Witt registered his second straight multi-hit contest, and he maximized his two base knocks by swiping second base on two occasions. The pair of thefts lifted his season total to 10, making him one of 14 major-leaguers to reach that mark thus far. Witt has been outshone among AL rookies by Julio Rodriguez and Jeremy Pena, but he's nonetheless displayed a nice combo of power and speed with seven homers and 28 RBI to complement his steals total.
Jun 9, 2022
On base three times Wednesday
Witt went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Witt had gone 2-for-33 in nine games since his previous multi-hit effort before snapping the skid Wednesday. The infielder has shown some flashes in his first big-league campaign, but his .221/.269/.417 slash line isn't all that impressive. He's added seven home runs, eight stolen bases, 28 RBI and 29 runs scored through 291 plate appearances.
Jun 4, 2022
Posts eighth steal
Witt went 1-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Witt got aboard with an RBI single and stole second before scoring on a Salvador Perez double in the eighth inning. This was Witt's first steal since May 27, and he's now 8-for-10 on the basepaths this year. The rookie infielder has hit safely in each of the last two games after ending an 0-for-14 skid. He's at a .228/.269/.439 slash line with seven home runs, 28 RBI, 25 runs scored, three triples and 13 doubles through 201 plate appearances.
Jun 4, 2022
Accounts for only runs in loss
Witt went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 10-3 loss to the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Witt went yard in the sixth inning, accounting for the only runs the Royals mustered against Astros starter Jose Urquidy. Prior to Friday, Witt had gone 0-for-14 in his last four contests, so it's positive to see him break the slump in a big way, even if it had little impact on the game. The 21-year-old is slashing .227/.269/.443 with seven homers, 27 RBI, 24 runs scored, seven stolen bases, 13 doubles and three triples in 197 plate appearances, but he's also striking out at a 25.4 percent clip while walking at just a 4.1 percent rate.
May 28, 2022
Three doubles, two RBI in win
Witt went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two RBI and a run in Saturday's win over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Witt notched an RBI double in the first inning and another one in the third frame before later adding a third double in the seventh. The three-hit effort was his second straight and he has produced multiple hits three times in his last five contests. Over that stretch, Witt has batted .435 with six extra-base hits including two homers, eight RBI, five runs and a stolen base. The rookie seems to rounding into form as the calendar turns to June.
May 28, 2022
Flashes tools in Friday's loss
Witt went 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run, two runs scored, three RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 10-7 loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
It was an outstanding performance by the rookie, and Witt just missed his first career cycle. His numbers continue to improve, and the 21-year-old is now slashing .235/.273/.444 through 42 games with six homers, seven steals, 22 runs and 22 RBI.
May 24, 2022
Hits fifth homer
Witt went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in a loss to Arizona on Monday.
ANALYSIS
After Whit Merrifield led off the game with a home run, Witt followed two batters later with a solo blast of his own. The long ball was his fourth over his past 10 games. Over that span, Witt is batting .257 with five RBI, seven runs and a stolen base.
May 21, 2022
Swipes bag in loss
Witt went 0-for-2 with a sacrifice fly, a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 6-4 loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Witt's lone RBI of the game came in the first inning. He had hit safely in seven of the previous eight games entering Friday. The 21-year-old is at a .221/.267/.400 slash line with four home runs, 16 RBI, 18 runs scored and six stolen bases through 150 plate appearances this season. Witt's seen more time at his natural shortstop position lately as part of the ripple effect of Michael Taylor (illness) being out, but he might have to compete with the hot-hitting Emmanuel Rivera at third base once Taylor's healthy again.
May 19, 2022
Swats solo homer
Witt went 2-for-4 with a solo home run -- his fourth of the season -- in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
The rookie delivered a modest .558 OPS in April, but he's begun to resemble the elite prospect he was billed as through the Royals' first 17 games of May. Over that three-week stretch, Witt is slashing .233/.292/.517 while providing all four of his home runs this month. He'll hit out of the No. 3 spot for the third game in a row in Thursday's series finale, with his ascension into a prominent spot in the lineup coinciding with Salvador Perez's (thumb) placement on the injured list.
May 16, 2022
Hits third homer
Witt went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and two total runs scored in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
During the three-game series in Colorado, Witt went 3-for-11 with a pair of homers, four RBI and five runs. Sunday's game was also the first time he's drawn multiple walks all season. He's lifted his slash line to .217/.254/.375 with three long balls, 14 RBI, 15 runs and five stolen bases through 31 contests. The bounce-back May for Whit Merrifield has seen Witt drop to the middle of the order after a bit of time as the Royals' leadoff hitter.
May 15, 2022
Homers in Saturday's loss
Witt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 10-4 loss to the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Witt is only 3-for-18 across his last four games, but all three of those hits have gone for extra bases. He's added six RBI and three runs scored despite striking out six times in that span. The 21-year-old is slashing .212/.238/.347 with two homers, five stolen bases, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored through 30 contests.
May 12, 2022
Plates three in win
Witt went 1-for-5 with a double and three RBI in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Hitting leadoff for the third straight game, Witt was able to snap a five-game run without an RBI. He knocked in a pair with a fifth-inning double and added another on a fielder's choice in the seventh. With Adalberto Mondesi (knee) out for the year, Witt's seen a little more time at shortstop, but third base remains his primary position. The 21-year-old is slashing .219/.248/.324 with a home run, 10 RBI, 10 runs scored and five stolen bases through 109 plate appearances this season.
May 10, 2022
Records fifth steal
Witt went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 6-1 loss to the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Witt hit leadoff for the second time in three games, and he may get a longer look in that spot with Edward Olivares (quadriceps) on the injured list. Witt opened the game with a single, stole second with two outs and then scored on a Ryan O'Hearn single. Through seven games in May, Witt is 6-for-22 (.272), cooling down slightly after ending April with hits in nine straight contests. Overall, the top prospect is slashing .229/.260/.333 with a home run, five steals, seven RBI and 10 runs scored across his first 100 major-league plate appearances.
May 4, 2022
First big-league blast
Witt went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, two RBI and a walk in a 7-1 win Tuesday over St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Witt went yard off Dakota Hudson in the second inning for his first major-league home run. After walking in the sixth, he drove in a run on a single and came around to score in the five-run seventh. The 21-year-old has an 11-game hitting streak, compiling a .341/.386/.488 batting line and three stolen bases in that span. He seems to be finding his way at the big-league level.
May 2, 2022
Back in lineup Monday
Witt is back in the lineup Monday, starting at third base and batting seventh against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
After missing Sunday's loss to the Yankees with wrist soreness, the rookie will be ready to go for Monday's contest. Over the first 10 games of the season, Witt only had five hits, but he's now rattled off a nine-game hitting streak. The hot stretch has raised his batting average from .128 to .216, but the 21-year-old is still searching for his first MLB homer.
May 1, 2022
Tending to wrist injury
Witt was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees while he tends to a wrist injury, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Witt was struck in the wrist by a pitch in Saturday's 3-0 loss, and though he wasn't forced to depart the game because of it, manager Mike Matheny acknowledged the rookie would be monitored over the next 24 hours. After re-examining Witt early Sunday, the team ultimately decided to hold him out for the series finale to give him additional time for the soreness to subside. Emmanuel Rivera will enter the lineup as a replacement at third base for Witt, who will put his nine-game hitting streak on hold.
Apr 29, 2022
Notches another steal
Witt went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in Thursday's 5-2 extra-innings win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Witt stretched his hitting streak to seven games, during which he's gone 9-for-29 (.310). His steal came in his lone trip on base in the eighth inning after his single. The infielder has shown off his speed with four stolen bases in five attempts while adding a .206/.229/.294 slash line with five RBI and six runs scored in 70 plate appearances. He has four doubles and a triple, but Witt has yet to hit his first major-league home run.
Apr 28, 2022
Swipes bag in loss
Witt went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Witt has now hit safely in six straight games, going 8-for-24 (.333) in that span. He's 3-for-4 in stolen base attempts this season. The 21-year-old's power has yet to surface at the major-league level, but he's getting back on track from a contact standpoint. He's slashing .206/.231/.302 with five RBI, six runs scored and four doubles in 16 contests.
Apr 26, 2022
Two hits, RBI in win
Witt went 2-for-5 with an RBI double in Tuesday's win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Witt was dropped from the top of the order to the bottom April 21, but he has secured a hit in all five games since then. The rookie's average was at .128 after the first 10 games of his career, but the hitting streak has it back above the Mendoza-line at .203. It's possible he'll find his way back up to the top of the order if he can stay hot.
Apr 24, 2022
Swipes second bag
Witt went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 13-7 loss to Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Witt singled in the fourth and fifth innings, plating a run and stealing second on the latter. The two-hit game was the second of the top prospect's career and Witt has now strung together a modest three-game hitting struck that's boosted a still-disappointing slash line to .184/.216/.286. The 21-year-old logged 29 thefts in 124 minor-league games last season and will be a bigger stolen base threat once he can get on base more consistently.
Apr 21, 2022
Dropped to seventh in lineup
Witt was dropped to seventh in the order Thursday against the Twins, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
He had not hit lower than third in the order this season, but the results haven't been there. Witt is hitting .128 with zero home runs, one steal and 13:1 K:BB in 10 games. Nicky Lopez was bumped up to leadoff while Whit Merrifield shifts to second in the lineup.
Apr 12, 2022
Swipes bag in loss
Witt went 0-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base, two runs scored and three strikeouts in Monday's 10-7 loss to the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Witt had struck out just once in his first three major-league games, so there's little reason to be concerned about his poor day at the plate. He also picked up his first walk and stolen base in the loss. The 21-year-old has already dazzled on defense at third base, and he's shown a little power and speed -- both of his hits this season are doubles. Hitting second in a strong top half of the Royals' order should continue to give Witt chances to contribute in all five standard fantasy categories.
Apr 11, 2022
Locked in as No. 2 hitter
Witt will start at third base and bat second in Monday's game against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Witt has batted out of the No. 2 spot in each of his first four MLB games, and he's provided little reason for the Royals to move him down in the order. He was one of the few bright spots for Kansas City in Sunday's 17-3 blowout loss, going 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Apr 7, 2022
Collects RBI in MLB Debut
Witt went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Witt, who batted second, flew out in his first at-bat and grounded out in his next two plate appearances before sending an RBI double down the left-field line in the eighth inning. The 21-year-old delivered in his first game at the big league level and is expected to be a big part of Kansas City's potential success this season.
Apr 7, 2022
Batting second in MLB debut
Witt will bat second and play third base in his MLB debut Thursday against the Guardians, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Royals showed their faith in Witt by skipping any service-time games and including him on their Opening Day roster, and they'll show further faith by inserting him directly in to a key spot in the lineup. Witt is still just 21 years old and has only played 160 games as a professional, but he has a very good chance of justifying that faith right away, as he hit .290/.361/.575 with 33 homers and 29 steals in 123 games in the upper minors last season.
Apr 5, 2022
Promotion made official
The Royals formally announced Tuesday that Witt has made their Opening Day roster.
ANALYSIS
Jon Heyman of MLB Network previously reported over the weekend that Witt would be included on the Royals' Opening Day roster, but the team waited a few days to make the matter official. Witt has seen the bulk of his minor-league action at shortstop, but he'll be installed as the Royals' everyday starter at third base after playing the position throughout the spring. The 21-year-old answered any questions about his readiness for the big leagues by mashing during Cactus League play, as he carries a .406/.441/.781 slash line into Tuesday's spring finale against the Brewers.
Apr 2, 2022
Earns roster spot
Witt has won an Opening Day roster spot, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Witt tore through the upper minors last season, hitting .290/.361/.575 with 33 homers and 29 steals split between the two highest levels. He's carried that momentum through to this spring, hitting .407/.448/.741 in 10 Cactus League games. A shortstop by trade, Witt is expected to open the year as the Royals' third baseman, with Adalberto Mondesi occupying his primary position.
Mar 25, 2022
Showing power
Witt went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and two runs scored in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
With homers in back-to-back games, Witt is using his power to make a case for the Opening Day roster. He's added five RBI, three runs scored and a double in four spring training games so far. For now, Witt is penciled in as the starting third baseman to begin 2022 -- he's done well to show he belongs so far after a quick rise through the minors.
Mar 16, 2022
Could be Opening Day third baseman
Witt is viewed as the Royals' Opening Day third baseman, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Witt came up through the minors primarily as a shortstop, but Adalberto Mondesi is expected to begin the season there. Instead, Witt could open his major-league career at the hot corner, which is a slightly less demanding position defensively. Mondesi logged some time at third base last season as well -- the Royals' lineup features a lot of flexibility around the infield. Witt split time between Double-A and Triple-A last season, combining for a .290/.361/.576 slash line, 33 home runs, 29 stolen bases, 97 RBI and 99 runs scored across 123 games.
Aug 26, 2021
Piling up stats in Triple-A
Witt went 3-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, three RBI and three runs for Triple-A Omaha against Iowa on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
He also homered and drove in four on Tuesday, continuing his ongoing demolition of Triple-A pitching. Witt is now batting .299/.356/.628 with 11 homers and seven steals since his promotion -- an even better line than what we saw from him in Double-A earlier this season. Fantasy managers have got to be champing at the bit to get him into their lineups, considering that Witt has put up 27 homers and 21 steals across 93 games in the minors this season.
Aug 6, 2021
Unfazed by Triple-A promotion
Witt has homered five times and stolen three bases in 15 games since his promotion to Triple-A Omaha, posting a .290/.338/.565 line in the process.
ANALYSIS
The mega-prospect's full minor-league line for the season is now .294/.363/.569 with 21 homers, 17 steals, 60 RBI and 60 runs. He's even trimmed his strikeout rate from 24 percent Double-A to 21.6 percent in Triple-A. Just 21 years old, Witt looks ready for the big leagues, but the date of his eventual promotion remains an open question. At one point this spring, it seemed likely that he'd spend the majority of the campaign with the Royals, but as things stand now, it seems like he may not get called up until rosters expand in September. Whenever he does get the call, he could make an instant impact.
Jul 18, 2021
Promoted to Triple-A
Witt was promoted to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Witt missed a few days with an ankle injury earlier in July, but he's slashed .267/.389/.667 with three home runs, nine RBI, six runs and a stolen base in his seven appearances since returning to action. The 21-year-old will now get to face higher level competition and could join the major-league club at some point if he continues to perform well.
Jul 7, 2021
Back in lineup Wednesday
Witt is back in the starting lineup Wednesday at Double-A Northwest Arkansas after missing one game due to an ankle injury.
ANALYSIS
Witt exited Sunday's game after tweaking his right ankle. The top prospect said Monday that he expected to be good to go Tuesday, but the club ultimately decided to give him one more day to let him heal up. Witt will bring a .296/.366/553 slash line and 13 homers with him into Wednesday's matchup.
Jul 5, 2021
Should return Tuesday
Witt (ankle) is expected to return to the lineup at Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Witt tweaked his ankle in Sunday's game and was removed from the contest, but his early exit was considered precautionary due to a cramp. The 21-year-old said Monday that he's doing fine, and it doesn't appear as though his injury will force him to miss additional time. The shortstop has slashed .345/.406/.612 with six home runs, three triples, seven doubles, 27 RBI, 22 runs and seven RBI across 29 games since June 1.
Jul 4, 2021
Tweaks ankle Sunday
Witt exited Sunday's game at Double-A Northwest Arkansas with a right ankle injury.
ANALYSIS
Witt suffered the injury while fielding a grounder in the third inning, and he was immediately removed from the game as a result. The 21-year-old had recorded five RBI across his three appearances leading up to Sunday's contest, but he went 0-for-2 prior to his exit. He'll have a chance to rest during the Double-A club's scheduled off day Monday, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to return to action Tuesday.

Sizzling at Double-A
Witt went 2-for-4 with a walk, RBI, run and two stolen bases Sunday in Double-A Northwest Arkansas' 8-2 win over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Witt's muted start to the season at Northwest Arkansas looks to be a distant memory at this point. After supplying his fifth consecutive multi-hit effort Sunday, Witt is holding down a .343/.405/.672 slash line in June, which has elevated his season-long OPS to a robust .913. The Royals have yet to tip their hand when Witt might be in line for a promotion to Triple-A Omaha, or perhaps directly to the big club.

Heating up
Witt has been heating up of late with a three-homer game on Sunday and two more hits Tuesday night. His OPS at Double-A has crept up to .800 as he gets more comfortable at the level.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear whether the Royals will consider calling Witt up soon, or wait until later in the year, but he's starting to make his case, and the power/speed combo makes him worth a speculative add if you have the roster space.

Slow start at Double-A
Witt went 2-for-5 with a double and a solo home run Sunday in Double-A Northwest Arkansas' 12-5 win over Springfield.
ANALYSIS
Though he generated hype in spring training about potentially bypassing the higher levels of the minors entirely to break camp with the big club, Witt was ultimately assigned to Double-A to begin the season. The 20-year-old was expected to find immediate success at Northwest Arkansas, but Witt is off to a surprisingly lackluster start to the campaign. He's reaching base at a modest .307 clip through 75 plate appearances, and he only had one extra-base hit prior to Sunday. Witt has at least excelled on the basepaths, going 7-for-10 in steal attempts.

Beginning year at Double-A
The Royals plan to have Witt begin the minor-league season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Kansas City's decision to send Witt to Double-A rather than Triple-A Omaha shouldn't have much bearing on when the prized prospect gets a big-league call-up, which will likely come at some point this summer. Since Witt has yet to make his debut in affiliated ball, the Royals may just want to see how he fares against high-level minor-league competition for a period of time before summoning him to the majors. Witt has been developed as a shortstop up to this point, but since Adalberto Mondesi (oblique) will have that position locked down once activated from the injured list, the 20-year-old may get some exposure to second base as well as the outfield during his time at Northwest Arkansas.

Will work on defensive versatility
Witt will spend some time in the outfield over the next few weeks as he looks to expand his defensive versatility, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite receiving a considerable amount of hype throughout camp, Witt will be opening the season in the minors, hardly a surprise given that he's played all of 37 games at the professional level, all in rookie ball. One of the issues regarding his eventual ascension to the big leagues, which could come later this year if he looks good in the minors, is what position he'll play, as he shares his primary spot (shortstop) with one of the Royals' best young players, Adalberto Mondesi. Moving one of them to second is the most obvious solution, as Nicky Lopez hasn't looked like an everyday player, though showing the ability to play somewhere in the outfield will give Witt additional paths to playing time.

Opening season in minors
Witt won't make Kansas City's Opening Day roster and was reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 20-year-old put himself in roster consideration with a strong start to spring training, but he cooled off recently and will begin the season in the minors. It's not much of a surprise, as Witt has only 164 professional at-bats under his belt after playing in 37 games at rookie ball in 2019. Kansas City's top prospect could still end up making his major-league debut in 2021.

Chance at Opening Day roster
General manager Dayton Moore said Tuesday that the Royals are open to putting Witt on the Opening Day roster, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 20-year-old never seemed to have much of a chance of opening the season in the majors given he has yet to see professional game action above rookie ball, but he's made an incredible impression so far in spring training. Witt has a .333/.379/.667 slash line with three home runs, nine runs and seven RBI through 11 spring games. The second overall pick of the 2019 draft primarily plays shortstop, but Moore made clear Witt can also play second base, third base and center field. Kansas City's decision could get more difficult if he continues to perform well over the final two weeks of camp.

Turning heads this spring
Witt is hitting .333/.379/.667 with three home runs, six strikeouts and two walks through 27 at-bats this spring.
ANALYSIS
Witt, who turns 21 in June, has been the talk of Royals camp and has earned glowing reviews from those inside and outside the organization. While he lacks experience in a full-season league, the normal rules may not apply here. Witt was a standout last summer at the alternate training site and looks like one of Kansas City's best position players this spring, so he could debut this season.

Set to join major-league camp
Witt was invited to the Royals' big-league spring training Friday.
ANALYSIS
The second-overall pick in the 2019 draft should attend more than a few big-league camps by the time his career is over. He's not particularly close to pushing for an actual roster spot, however, as his only professional experience to date has come at the rookie-ball level.
