Recalled from Columbus
Cleveland recalled Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio will start at shortstop and bat sixth Wednesday against the Reds as Gabriel Arias heads to an early shutdown because of a fractured wrist. Rocchio, 22, has flashed good speed this season at the Triple-A level but carries a rough .242/.271/.303 batting line with 22 strikeouts through his first 70 major-league plate appearances.

Optioned to Triple-A
The Guardians optioned Rocchio to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio was recalled from Columbus on Aug. 2 and slashed .271/.308/.354 through 52 plate appearances during his latest stint in the majors. He'll be replaced on the active roster by Cam Gallagher, who returned from the 7-day injured list Thursday, but Rocchio could make a quick return to the majors once rosters expand in September.

Not in Tuesday's lineup
Rocchio is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest versus the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio and Gabriel Arias have shared the shortstop job for the Guardians since the trade of Amed Rosario, and it will be Arias at the position for this one after Rocchio had started four of the previous five games there. The 22-year-old Rocchio has collected a .610 OPS over 18 games for Cleveland this season.

Posts three hits in loss
Rocchio went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio has multiple hits in three of his last seven games, though this was the first time he was in the lineup since Saturday. The shortstop is batting .288 with a .674 OPS, no home runs, four RBI, six runs scored and no stolen bases through 55 plate appearances. With Jose Tena optioned to Triple-A Columbus, Rocchio will compete with Gabriel Arias and Tyler Freeman for playing time at shortstop going forward.

Sitting Sunday
Rocchio isn't in the Guardians' lineup Sunday against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio is batting .304 (7-for-23) over his last seven games and will sit out Sunday's series finale after an 0-for-4 effort Saturday. Jose Tena will draw the start at shortstop instead and bat ninth, and Gabriel Arias will start at third base.

Drives in two Thursday
Rocchio went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio's two doubles each knocked in a run. The infield prospect has been in the lineup regularly at shortstop lately with Gabriel Arias seeing more time at first base since Josh Naylor (oblique) and David Fry (hamstring) went on the injured list. Over 41 plate appearances this season, Rocchio has hit .275 with a .668 OPS, four doubles, three RBI and four runs scored. It's possible shortstop could turn into a hot-hand situation once the Guardians' lineup is healthier.

Heads to bench Wednesday
Rocchio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio will take a seat Wednesday after he had started at third base or shortstop in each of the Guardians' last six contests, going 6-for-21 with two doubles, one walk and three runs over that stretch. Gabriel Arias, who had started the past two games at first base, will move over to shortstop to spell Rocchio.

Nabs fourth straight start
Rocchio will start at third base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
He'll stick in the lineup for a fourth straight game, with two starts coming at shortstop and two coming at third base. The Guardians haven't indicated whether Rocchio or Gabriel Arias will end up settling in as their everyday third baseman, but the team could have room for both players on the left side of the infield during the upcoming week if Jose Ramirez is suspended for throwing punches in Saturday's loss to the White Sox. Major League Baseball has yet to rule on the matter, and Ramirez will be included in the lineup Sunday as Cleveland's designated hitter.

Recalled from Columbus
Cleveland recalled Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old will jump right into the Guardians' starting lineup at third base Wednesday versus the Astros as Jose Ramirez takes a DH day. Rocchio is 3-for-14 with no extra-base hits so far at the major-league level, but he's registered a solid .291/.383/.417 batting line with three homers and 19 steals across 89 games this season in Triple-A.

Sent down to Triple-A
Rocchio was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Josh Bell is expected back from paternity leave Tuesday against the Red Sox, so Rocchio is headed back to the minors. The rookie infielder has had a few stints in the big leagues but hasn't been given much of an opportunity to this point.

Back in majors
The Guardians recalled Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio will return to the big leagues while Josh Bell spends a maximum of three days on the paternity list. The 22-year-old prospect holds an .863 OPS in Triple-A this season through 207 plate appearances, but his minor-league success has yet to translate into the majors.

Returns to Triple-A
The Guardians optioned Rocchio to Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With Jose Ramirez returning from the bereavement list Friday, Rocchio will return to Triple-A to continue his development. The switch-hitting prospect went 2-for-10 at the plate in his first three major-league games and collected his first career RBI on Thursday. If he continues his .338/.396/.486 pace in Columbus, it's very possible Rocchio finds himself back in Cleveland before the end of the year.

Gets first MLB start
Rocchio will start at shortstop and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
With Amed Rosario serving as the Guardians' designated hitter Wednesday, Rocchio will get the chance to pick up his first big-league start. After being called up from Triple-A Columbus when Jose Ramirez (personal) was placed on the bereavement list in a corresponding move, Rocchio came off the bench to make his MLB debut in Tuesday's 8-3 loss, going 1-for-2 with a base hit. Rocchio will likely return to Columbus when Ramirez rejoins the Guardians in the next 2-to-6 days.

Receiving promotion
Rocchio will be recalled from Triple-A Columbus by the Guardians prior to Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not clear at this point what the corresponding move will be. Rocchio was up with the big club briefly last month but didn't make an appearance. The 22-year-old is batting .338/.396/.487 with one home run and 10 stolen bases at Columbus this season. Rocchio has played both middle infield spots in 2023 and has some experience at third base, as well. The top prospect would make for an interesting fantasy add if he played regularly, but there wouldn't seem to be a path to that right now.

Optioned to Triple-A
Rocchio was optioned to Triple-A Columbus by the Guardians on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
His first stint in the big leagues lasted just one day and he didn't make an appearance. Rocchio already being sent back down would seem to bode well for Amed Rosario's (back) chances to return to action this weekend.

Call-up official
The Guardians recalled Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Rocchio won't be included in the starting nine for Wednesday's series finale in Detroit, he could get the chance to pick up regular work in the middle infield if Amed Rosario (back) isn't ready to return to the lineup during this weekend's series versus Miami. Until more clarity arrives on Rosario's situation, Rocchio shapes up as more of a speculative pickup in most fantasy leagues.

Promotion on tap
The Guardians are expected to call up Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus prior to Wednesday's game against the Tigers, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland's top hitting prospect, Rocchio has gotten off to a blazing start at Columbus, slashing .344/.414/.459 with seven extra-base hits (all doubles) and four stolen bases across 70 plate appearances so far this season. The Guardians haven't confirmed his promotion or announced any corresponding moves, but Rocchio is presumably in line to step in as the team's top option at shortstop while Amed Rosario (back) is on the mend from an injury. The extent of Rosario's injury may dictate how long Rocchio sticks with the big club, though if the 22-year-old switch-hitter excels in his first exposure to the majors, it's possible he sticks around in Cleveland for a longer period of time than anticipated.

Top prospect sent to minors
Rocchio was optioned to Triple-A Columbus by the Guardians on Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The top prospect hasn't hit much this spring, but that doesn't dampen a rosy outlook for the 22-year-old. Rocchio has primarily played shortstop but is capable at second and third base, as well. The Guardians are set at those positions, but he could be a capable fill-in if injuries strike.

Finishes strong in Triple-A
Rocchio put up a .257/.336/.420 line with 18 homers, 14 steals (on 23 attempts) and a 54:102 BB:K over 132 games spread across Double-A and Triple-A this season.
ANALYSIS
After putting up a .780 OPS in Double-A, Rocchio posted just a .234/.298/.387 batting line for Triple-A Columbus after being promoted in late August. However, he finished strong, going 6-for-21 (.286) with a homer and a 4:3 BB:K over his final six games of 2022. The 21-year-old is an intriguing prospect who has a great chance to grow into an everyday big-league shortstop, but he lacks a carrying tool for fantasy purposes -- he's not shaping up to be a big-time power hitter, he's never hit for exceptional average in full-season ball, and his stolen-base success rate has been almost uniformly poor. It all adds up to a player who may be more valuable in real life than fantasy.

Bumps up to Triple-A
Rocchio was promoted from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio posted a combined slash line of .275/.352/.456 with 19 home runs, 19 stolen bases, 78 RBI and 96 runs scored through 143 games across two seasons at the Double-A level. The 21-year-old will now be one step away from the majors, though he's likely to spend the rest of this season and much of 2023 at Columbus. He earned the promotion by batting .311 in 40 games since the start of July.
Jul 13, 2022
Hot bat for last month
Rocchio has hit .380/.432/.658 with five homers, three steals and a 7:9 BB:K over his last 19 games for Double-A Akron.
ANALYSIS
He was struggling mightily before this recent stretch, as Rocchio's first 48 games of 2022 saw him hit just .205/.308/.313 with a 19.6 percent strikeout rate; he's nearly halved that to just 10.1 percent during this hot streak.
May 16, 2022
Back in action
Rocchio (concussion) returned from the injured list for Double-A Akron on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio was out for eight days while recovering from a concussion. He hit a modest .236/.342/.393 in 25 games prior to the injury.
May 9, 2022
Out with concussion
Double-A Akron placed Rocchio on its 7-day injured list Monday due to a concussion.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio presumably picked up the injury during his last game Sunday against Richmond, when he doubled in his lone at-bat before exiting the contest. The 21-year-old switch-hitting infielder isn't known to have a prior history of head injuries, so the Guardians should have some optimism that he'll be in store for an abbreviated absence. Before sustaining the concussion, Rocchio appeared in 25 games for Akron and slashed .236/.324/.393 with three home runs and two stolen bases.
Mar 27, 2022
Sent to minors
Rocchio was optioned to minor-league camp Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Rocchio was added to Cleveland's 40-man roster in November and will now head to the minor-league side of spring training after opening with the big club. The 21-year-old shortstop, who is the Guardians' top prospect, received a promotion to Double-A Arkansas last season and hit .293/.360/.505 with six home runs, 34 runs, 30 RBI and seven stolen bases in 44 games.
Nov 19, 2021
Added to 40-man roster
Rocchio was added to Cleveland's 40-man roster Friday.
ANALYSIS
The best prospect in the organization, Rocchio was a lock to get protected from the Rule 5 draft. He started making good on the Francisco Lindor comparisons by tapping into notable power at Double-A as a 20-year-old, but he may not debut until 2023.
