The outfielder put the Pirates ahead 3-0 in the third inning with his blast, which earned him a third consecutive 20-homer season. Aug 14, 2023
Goes deep twice
Reynolds went 2-for-5 with two solo homers in a loss to the Reds during Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds went 0-for-4 in the first game of the doubleheader but made up for it with two long balls in the second. It's been a streaky year for the 28-year-old outfielder but he's been heating back up recently. Over his last 21 games, Reynolds is slashing .326/.376/.628 with eight homers. His season OPS is back up to .801 with 43 extra-base hits across 450 plate appearances.
Aug 6, 2023
Supplies pinch-hit home run
Reynolds went 1-for-1 with a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds entered as a pinch-hitter in the eighth and sent a two-run blast to right center field in the eighth to put the Pirates up 4-0. Reynolds now has three home runs over his last seven games and is up to 14 on the year. He's found his swing again after some initial struggles coming off the injured list in early July. Reynolds is hitting .384 with seven RBI and seven runs scored over his last 10 games and is slashing .267/.329/.453 with 53 RBI and 52 runs in 417 plate appearances.

Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's win over Milwaukee.

It's been an up-and-down year for the 28-year-old outfielder but he's starting to heat up, Over his last eight games, Reynolds has gone 14-for-34 (.412) with three homers and seven runs scored. His slash line has improved to .268/.328/.449 with 38 extra-base hits through 411 plate appearances.
Jul 27, 2023
Having poor month of July
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds took Seth Lugo deep in the fourth inning for his 11th home run of the season. It was his second homer in his last four games and fourth in his last 22 starts. That provides some hope that his power is bouncing back, though he is hitting only .193 with nine RBI and eight runs scored in that same 22-game span. Reynolds has taken a step back in nearly every offensive metric and has managed only a 103 wRC+ across 380 plate appearances on the campaign.

Smacks ninth homer
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Dodgers.

Returns from injured list
Reynolds (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old was previously expected to rejoin the active roster Friday, and he's now officially been activated two days later. It was a relatively brief absence for Reynolds, who has been sidelined since June 19 due to lower-back inflammation. He had a .268/.406/.393 slash line and one home run, four RBI and seven runs through 16 games in June prior to the injury.
Jun 30, 2023
Still day-to-day
Reynolds (back) is not in Friday's lineup against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Danny Demilio of Pittsburgh Baseball Now reports that Reynolds hit on the field Friday but is still in the day-to-day phase. Manager Derek Shelton said Saturday will be an important day to see how Reynolds feels and they'll go from there.
Jun 29, 2023
Takes on-field batting practice
Reynolds (back) took on-field batting practice Thursday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds has also been making throws from the outfield without issue and looks to be on track to return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Friday versus the Brewers. The 28-year-old had slashed .279/.350/.472 with eight homers, 40 RBI, eight steals and 38 runs scored through 68 games when he landed on the IL last week with lower back inflammation.
Jun 28, 2023
Aiming for Friday return
Reynolds (back) said he's aiming to be activated from the injured list Friday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
That is the first day that Reynolds is eligible to be brought off the 10-day IL. Nearing the end of his recovery from a bout of lower back inflammation, he swung the bat Tuesday without issue and is going to throw on the field Wednesday. The 28-year-old outfielder should be ready to rock for Pirates ahead of their weekend series against the Brewers.
Jun 22, 2023
Lands on IL
The Pirates placed Reynolds on the 10-day injured list Thursday with lower back stiffness, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Derek Shelton said Tuesday that Reynolds wouldn't need to be placed on the injured list, but that has apparently changed over the last 48 hours. Reynolds is slashing .279/.350/.473 through 294 plate appearances this season and will now sit out until at least the beginning of July.
Jun 21, 2023
Sitting out with injury
Reynolds (back) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Though manager Derek Shelton expressed optimism Tuesday that Reynolds will avoid a stint on the 10-day injured list due to his tight lower back, the outfielder will be relegated to the bench for the second day in a row. Josh Palacios will spell Reynolds in left field once again.
Jun 20, 2023
Not going on IL
Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Tuesday that Reynolds (back) is not going on the injured list, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds is not in the Pirates' starting lineup Tuesday night against the Cubs because of a lower back tightness, but it's apparently relatively minor. "That was news to me," Shelton said of the chatter that Reynolds would require an IL stint for an oblique injury. Consider the 28-year-old outfielder day-to-day.
Jun 20, 2023
Out of lineup Tuesday
Reynolds will not be in the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds went 1-for-2 with two walks in Monday's series opener versus Chicago, but there is talk of him possibly needing a 15-day IL stint for an oblique injury. There should be an official update soon from Pittsburgh.
Jun 15, 2023
Three hits Wednesday
Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored in Wednesday's 10-6 loss against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds has now hit safely in seven straight games, though Wednesday's three-hit performance was his first multi-hit effort since June 4. The 28-year-old outfielder has continued to struggle in the power department -- he has just two home runs since April 7 after blasting five in his first seven games. Still, Reynolds is having a solid season in Pittsburgh, slashing .286/.354/.477 with 38 RBI, 37 runs scored and eight steals through 274 plate appearances.
Jun 1, 2023
Drives in three
Reynolds went 1-for-5 with three RBI on Wednesday against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds delivered a two-RBI single in the fourth inning to account for the majority of his production. Despite hitting only .233, he now has 13 RBI and eight runs scored across his last 11 games. Reynolds went 34 games without a home run from early April to mid-May, though he appears to be back on track from a counting stat perspective and he has also maintained .282 average across 225 plate appearances on the season.
May 30, 2023
Gets Tuesday off
Reynolds is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a day of rest for Reynolds, who has hit a relatively disappointing .245/.317/.426 in the month of May over 94 at-bats. Jack Suwinski is playing left field with Ji-hwan Bae getting the start in center.
May 27, 2023
Double shy of cycle
Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a walk, four RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in Friday's 11-6 win over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds came up a double shy of the cycle in a fantastic performance. All three of his hits came in the last five innings as the Pirates took over the contest. The star outfielder has just nine RBI this month, but they've all come in his last seven games. For the season, he's slashing a strong .292/.343/.514 with seven homers, 32 RBI, 29 runs scored, seven stolen bases, 16 doubles and two triples through 48 contests.
May 20, 2023
Ends homer drought
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored Friday against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds popped a three-run homer in the fifth inning, his sixth long ball of the season and first since April 7. He hit a respectable .261 in that span but tallied only 14 RBI and 16 runs scored in 35 games. Despite the slow stretch, Reynolds has struck out at only 19.3 percent clip and still possesses a .215 ISO for the season -- providing hope his production will return.
May 17, 2023
Multi-hit game
Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored Wednesday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds tallied hits in each of his last three at-bats to record his first multi-hit game since May 2. In 13 games since, he's hit just .226 with no RBI and six runs scored. After a scorching start to the campaign, Reynolds has been mediocre but has maintained overall marks of a 122 wRC+ and .353 wOBA across 176 plate appearances.
May 15, 2023
Swipes sixth base
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base Sunday against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds reached base on a dropped third strike in the third inning and came around to score. He also reached base after being hit by a pitch in the ninth inning and swiped second base to tally his stolen bag of the season. Reynolds hasn't homered since April 7 -- a span of 32 games -- and he's hit just .256 with 10 RBI and 12 runs scored in that span.
May 3, 2023
On base four times
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a double and two walks Tuesday against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds had a busy day at the plate and extended his hitting streak to seven games. In that span, he has five multi-hit performances and has also recorded seven doubles, six RBI and four runs scored. Though he hasn't homered since April 7, Reynolds has still maintained a .330/.372/.585 line across 121 plate appearances.
Apr 30, 2023
Swipes fifth bag
Reynolds went 3-for-6 with two doubles, two walks, a stolen base, three runs and two RBI across both contests in Saturday's doubleheader against Washington.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds had a double and a sacrifice fly in Game 1 before reaching base in all four of his plate appearances in the nightcap. The talented outfielder pushed his season slash line to .313/.348/.566 with the big day at the plate. Reynolds went through a three-game 0-for-10 stretch at the plate last week but has since bounced back by going 8-for-17 over his subsequent five contests.
Apr 27, 2023
Double, stolen base in win
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a steal in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds drove in Pittsburgh's first run Thursday, driving in Tucupita Marcano with a base hit. He'd steal third base later in the inning before scoring on a Rodolfo Castro sacrifice fly. Reynolds has looked worthy of his newly-signed eight-year extension early this season, playing a major role in the Pirates' surprising start. The 28-year-old outfielder is slashing .301/.330/.548 with five home runs, 12 runs scored and 20 RBI through his first 103 plate appearances.
Apr 26, 2023
Activated from bereavement
Reynolds was activated Wednesday from the bereavement list, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds was only away from the Pirates for a couple of days and is set to return to action Wednesday against the Dodgers with a freshly-inked eight-year, $106.75 million contract extension in hand. He's registered an .872 OPS with five home runs, 18 RBI, three stolen bases and 13 runs scored through 22 games this season.
Apr 25, 2023
Inks eight-year, $106.75M extension
Reynolds and the Pirates reached agreement Tuesday on an eight-year, $106.75 million contract extension, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
There is also a ninth-year club option for 2031 that is worth $20 million with a $2 million buyout. Reynolds did not receive the opt-out clause that he had reportedly been seeking, but the deal does include some form of no-trade protection. It seems like a fairly team-friendly long-term pact for a player who has been consistently excellent since his arrival in the majors in 2019. Through his first 22 games this season, the 28-year-old outfielder carries an .872 OPS with five home runs, 18 RBI, three stolen bases and 13 runs scored.
Apr 23, 2023
Placed on bereavement list
The Pirates placed Reynolds on the bereavement list before Sunday's game against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds will be away from the team for a few days while on the bereavement list. The Pirates selected the contract of Drew Maggi from Double-A Altoona to replace him on the 26-man roster.
Apr 22, 2023
Gone quiet
Reynolds went 0-for-3 with a walk Friday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds began the season with five home runs in his first seven games while also collecting 13 hits in 29 at-bats. He's done very little since, however, tallying only 10 knocks across 53 at-bats with only one extra-base hit. Reynolds is still hitting .280/.311/.524 across 90 total plate appearances on the campaign, but he's cooled off quickly.
Apr 13, 2023
Gets first day off Thursday
Reynolds is out of the lineup Thursday at St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
It's the first day off of the season for Reynolds, who is slashing .347/.358/.735 with five home runs, 14 RBI, two stolen bases and 10 runs scored through 12 games. Connor Joe, Ji Hwan Bae and Andrew McCutchen are starting across the outfield Thursday versus the Cardinals.
Apr 7, 2023
Drives in six runs
Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple, six RBI and three runs scored in Friday's win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
The red-hot outfielder ripped a three-run shot off Lucas Giolito in the fourth inning followed by a bases-clearing triple in the fifth. Reynolds has a hit in each of the first seven games this season and has been on an absolute tear over the last week. He's drilled eight extra-base hits (five homers) with 11 RBI over his last five games. Reynolds owns a ridiculous 1.572 OPS through 32 plate appearances.
Apr 5, 2023
Productive again Wednesday
Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old has hit safely in six straight games to begin the season, going 10-for-24 (.417) with two doubles, four homers, six runs and seven RBI, but Wednesday's pilfer was his first of the year. Reynolds went 7-for-10 in that category in 2022, but he's one of the players who could see a significant bump in steals this season thanks to MLB's rule changes to boost the running game.
Apr 5, 2023
Launches fourth homer
Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
He took Nick Pivetta deep in the third inning, giving the Pirates a 3-1 lead and giving Reynolds his fourth homer in five games to begin the season. The 28-year-old is batting .429 (9-for-21) with five runs and six RBI, and the Pirates may want to hurry up and get him signed to that contract extension before his asking price goes up.
Apr 3, 2023
In midst of heater
Reynolds went 3-for-5 with two solo home runs and an additional run scored Monday against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
That's three home runs in the last two days for Reynolds, who is in the midst of contract extension talks with the Pirates. He touched up Kutter Crawford for the pair of long balls and is off to a very productive start to the season, hitting .353 with four runs, four RBI and three home runs through 18 plate appearances.
Apr 3, 2023
Goes yard against Reds
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds has been in the news due to his ongoing contract negotiations with the Pirates, he set that aside to slug his first homer of the season. He's had an average start to the new season, collecting three hits across 12 at-bats while striking out only twice.
Mar 31, 2023
Money agreed to, but opt-out hurdle
The inclusion of an opt-out clause is the sticking point in contract extension negotiations between Reynolds and the Pirates, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The good news is the two sides have come to an agreement on the financial terms of a long-term deal with a package of about $106 million, Biertempfel says. Reynolds has expressed a willingness to back-load the contract and because he's also relented more than the club on the dollar ask, he wants the Pirates to include an opt-out clause. Pittsburgh has historically been opposed to including opt-outs in contracts, but it's possible they might make an exception here. Biertempfel intimates that the Pirates might like to have a deal in place prior to their home opener on April 7. Reynolds -- who is currently under team control through 2025 -- requested a trade back in December when negotiations fell apart, but it seems there's real momentum for a deal now if the two sides can overcome the opt-out hurdle.
Mar 29, 2023
Starting in LF on Opening Day
Reynolds will start in left field for the Pirates on Opening Day, manager Derek Shelton told Justice delos Santos of MLB.com on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The Pirates had indicated with their words and also actions this spring that Reynolds was likely shifting over to left and Jack Suwinski would handle center. Now it's official, although Shelton did note that Reynolds could still play center some days. The Pirates are reportedly still trying to sign Reynolds to a contract extension following his offseason trade request.
Mar 13, 2023
Using heavier bat
Reynolds has been using a heavier bat during spring training to try to improve his timing, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds is using a bat with a larger handle to counterbalance the weight. It's unclear exactly how long he's opted for the new style of bat, though he's homered in consecutive games after going yard in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta. While he requested a trade this offseason, Reynolds will be the leader of Pittsburgh's outfielder so long as he remains with the team.
Feb 28, 2023
Open to playing more left field
Reynolds said Tuesday that he's open to playing more left field this year, Kevin Gorman of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
ANALYSIS
That would allow the rangier Jack Suwinski to potentially take over in center field. "I think I grade out better in left, anyway, so that'll be better for everybody," Reynolds told reporters at Pirates camp. "In the past, I've been good in left." Reynolds requested a trade out of Pittsburgh over the winter, but it has yet to come to fruition as of late February. And it sounds like he might indeed be in left field -- not center -- for the Pirates when the regular season gets underway.
Oct 5, 2022
Not in Wednesday's lineup
Reynolds isn't starting Wednesday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds is in the midst of a three-game hitting streak in which he's gone 5-for-13 with a home run, two doubles, two runs, two RBI, two walks and two strikeouts. However, he'll be on the bench for Wednesday's season finale while Ji Hwan Bae starts in center field and bats ninth.
Oct 2, 2022
Slugs 27th home run
Reynolds went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-5 victory over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds went hitless in his first three at-bats Sunday, but he came through with a big solo home run in the seventh inning to put the Pirates up 7-5 and provide a much-needed insurance run. He also reached on an infield single in the ninth inning but did not score. The home run was his 27th of the season, three higher than the career high he set in 2021 despite playing in 16 fewer games to this point. Over 604 plate appearances this season, Reynolds is slashing .260/.343/.459.
Sep 26, 2022
Launches 26th homer
Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored Sunday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds took Adrian Sampson deep in the sixth inning to tally his 26th homer of the season. He's gone yard in three of his last six starts, also tallying six RBI and seven runs scored in that span. Despite tallying a career-high in long balls, Reynolds has only 60 RBI and 70 runs scored across 137 games on the campaign.
Sep 24, 2022
Smacks 25th homer
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored Friday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds took Manuel Rodriguez deep in the seventh inning to record his 25th home run of the season, which set a new career high. He's been on a power binge across his last 12 games, slugging four homers to go along with two doubles. Overall this season, Reynolds has maintained a .265/.344/.463 line across 569 plate appearances.
Sep 23, 2022
Doubles twice, swipes bag
Reynolds went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, an RBI and a stolen base Thursday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds put together a big performance, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances while also bringing his double total on the season to 17. He's hitting .304 across 20 games in September, and he's also delivered three homers, nine RBI and seven runs scored in that span. For the season, Reynolds has maintained a .263/.342/.457 line across 564 plate appearances.
Sep 21, 2022
Leads offense Tuesday
Reynolds went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds led the Pittsburgh offense Wednesday with his first four-hit effort of 2022, including a solo home run to tie the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning. The home run was his third in his last eight games and 24th on the season, which ties the career high he set in 2021. In his last 15 games, he is batting .333 (20-for-60) with three home runs, eight RBI and seven runs scored.
Sep 14, 2022
Swats 23rd homer
Reynolds went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in a 6-1 win over the Reds during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old switch hitter took Luis Cessa deep for a solo shot in the fifth inning of the matinee, his 23rd homer of the year, before going 0-for-3 with a walk in the nightcap. Reynolds is putting together a solid finish to the season, slashing .288/.364/.407 over his last 15 games with two home runs, one stolen base, four runs and six RBI.
Sep 10, 2022
Records 15th double
Reynolds went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI on Friday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds tallied an RBI single in the fifth inning to drive in his 50th run of the season. Two frames later he delivered his 15th double of the campaign, which marked his first extra-base hit in nine starts prior to Friday's matchup. He had still managed to hit .294 in that span, but had just one RBI and one run scored to show for it. For the season, Reynolds has maintained a .340 wOBA and 118 wRC+ while also chipping in 21 homers and six steals across 506 plate appearances.
Sep 8, 2022
Swipes sixth bag
Reynolds went 2-for-6 with a stolen base across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader as the Pirates got swept by the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Both hits came in the nightcap, but the steal came in the matinee as Reynolds reached on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning before swiping second base. The switch-hitting outfielder set a new career high with his sixth stolen base of the season, but he hasn't supplied much other production lately -- despite batting a solid .289 (11-for-38) over his last 10 games, Reynolds has just one RBI and two runs scored to show for it.

Slugs 21st homer
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Friday against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds took Bailey Falter yard in the fourth inning to record his 21st homer of the season. He's now tallied five long balls in his last 11 starts, driving in 13 and scoring 10 runs in that span. Despite the lack of support around him in the lineup, Reynolds has maintained a fairly impressive .254/.336/.460 line across 455 plate appearances on the season.
Aug 18, 2022

Homers in losing effort
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with one homer, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's loss to Boston.
ANALYSIS

The outfielder has struggled to hit the ball over the fence with only three home runs over 99 at-bats in his last 29 games; however, he has now homered in two of his previous three games. 14 of the 27-year-old's 18 homers this season have come against right-handed pitching.

Aug 6, 2022
Snags fourth steal
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 1-0 loss to the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
The Pirates' offense couldn't get out of the blocks, but Reynolds at least tried to make something happen with his legs. The steal was his fourth of the year but first since June 1, and Reynolds also sports a .258/.340/.458 slash line with 16 homers, 34 RBI and 44 runs through 90 games.
Aug 4, 2022
Hits walk-off homer
Reynolds went 3-for-3 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored in an 8-7 win over the Brewers on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds was the hero of the night, blasting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to conclude a dramatic back-and-forth contest. The homer came off Brewers reliever Devin Williams, who had come into the game without giving up a home run all season. The three-hit performance snaps a cold stretch of six hitless games. Reynolds now has 16 long balls and is slashing .255/.337/.457 in 2022.

Back from paternity list
Reynolds (personal) was activated from the paternity list Sunday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old was placed on the paternity list Thursday and will rejoin the team after spending a few days with his family. The Pirates have yet to release their official lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Phillies, but Reynolds figures to take up his usual spot in center field.
Jul 28, 2022
Goes on paternity leave
The Pirates placed Reynolds on the paternity list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Since Reynolds will be away frrom the Pirates for 1-to-3 days while he awaits the birth of his child, the Pirates recalled Bligh Madris from Triple-A Indianapolis to add reinforcement to the outfield. After being activated from the injured list Monday, Reynolds started in both of the Pirates' last two games and went hitless in eight at-bats to drop his season average to .254.
Jul 26, 2022
Hitless in return
Reynolds went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Monday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds returned from a two-week absence caused by an oblique injury. He filled his typical role in center field while hitting second. Reynolds will have one of the few locked-in spots in the Pirates' lineup moving forward, and he's maintained a .257/.339/.459 line across 348 plate appearances on the season.
Jul 25, 2022
Activated Monday
Reynolds (oblique) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Monday.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds missed two weeks due to a strained right oblique but is starting in center field and batting second during Monday's series opener against the Cubs. He'll serve as the Pirates' everyday center fielder now that he's healthy, but he's a potential trade candidate despite being under team control through 2025. The 27-year-old is slashing .261/.343/.465 with 15 homers, 40 runs, 32 RBI and three stolen bases this season.
Jul 24, 2022
Should return Monday
Reynolds (oblique) expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Monday's game against the Cubs, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds landed on the injured list July 11 with a strained right oblique, but he'll only end up being sidelined a couple weeks by the injury. The 27-year-old could also be a trade piece for the Pirates, though he'd be costly to acquire since he remains under team control through 2025. Reynolds has a .261/.343/.465 slash line with 15 home runs, 32 RBI, 40 runs and three stolen bases in 83 games this year.
Jul 22, 2022
Takes batting practice
Reynolds (oblique) took batting practice at the Pirates' voluntary workout Thursday, Chris Halicke of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's encouraging to see Reynolds swinging a bat after he was initially shut down during his IL stint, but manager Derek Shelton said Friday that the outfielder is still restricted. However, Shelton hopes Reynolds will be able to return "sooner rather than later." A better idea of the 27-year-old's return timetable should come into focus once he's able to ramp up his activity level.
Jul 13, 2022
Yet to resume baseball activities
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Reynolds (oblique) hasn't yet resumed baseball activities, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds landed on the injured list with a right oblique strain Monday and will be unavailable until at least the first game after the All-Star break. However, the 27-year-old doesn't yet have a timetable for his return and will be reassessed following the Pirates' layoff.
Jul 11, 2022
Sent to IL with oblique strain
The Pirates placed Reynolds on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right oblique strain, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Reynolds will be eligible to come off the IL for the Pirates' first game out of the All-Star break July 22, the severity of his oblique strain isn't yet known, so it's far from a given that he'll be ready to return in the minimum amount of time. Pittsburgh reinstated Jake Marisnick (thumb) from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move, and he should replace Reynolds in center field when the Pirates oppose left-handed pitching, while Jack Suwinski and Ben Gamel profile as the top options at the position versus righties. Coming off a 2021 All-Star appearance, Reynolds has taken a slight step back offensively in 2022, but he's still slashing a credible .261/.343/.465 across 344 plate appearances.
Jul 10, 2022
Exits with right side discomfort
Reynolds was removed from Sunday's game against the Brewers due to right side discomfort.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds went 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts to begin Sunday's matchup, but he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the top of the seventh inning. He's being further examined by the team's medical staff and is considered day-to-day.
Jul 9, 2022
Receives rare rest
Reynolds will sit Saturday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds hits the bench after starting each of the Pirates' last 51 games. He hasn't exactly looked like he's needed a rest, as he owns a 1.156 OPS over his last 10 games, but the Pirates will hope the off day allows him to stay fresh and maintain his hot streak. Jack Suwinski will slide to center field in his absence, with Ben Gamel starting in left.
Jul 9, 2022
Three hits in loss
Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored Friday against the Brewers.

Jun 29, 2022
Smacks trio of homers
Reynolds went 3-for-5 with three home runs and six RBI on Wednesday against the Nationals.

He has a modest four-game hitting streak, during which he's recorded one RBI and three runs scored. Overall, Reynolds has a .259/.333/.453 line across 273 plate appearances on the season.
Jun 21, 2022
Scores twice in romp
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in Monday's 12-1 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Fresh call-ups Oneil Cruz and Bligh Madris were the stars of the night for Pittsburgh after going a combined 5-for-9 with six RBI, but Reynolds' contributions were essential as the Pirates established a new season high in runs. The two-hit effort ended a short dry spell at the plate for Reynolds, who went 1-for-12 with a walk and four strikeouts over his previous three starts.
Jun 16, 2022
Homer and triple in win
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a triple and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Cardinals. He was also hit by a pitch.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds notched the Pirates' first hit with a first-inning triple and scored on a groundout. He again gave them the lead in the sixth with his third homer in the last six games. The outfielder saw a six-game hitting streak end Tuesday, but he's now 15-for-28 (.536) over his last eight contests. For the season, Reynolds has hit .257/.333/.459 with 11 homers, 21 RBI, 28 runs scored, three stolen bases, two triples and eight doubles in 249 plate appearances.
Jun 12, 2022

The 27-year-old outfielder is scorching this month, going 16-for-39 (.410) with three homers and seven RBI through 10 June contests. Reynolds is now slashing .249/.325/.440 19 extra-base hits through 55 games on the year.
Jun 11, 2022
Third straight multi-hit game
Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and two total runs scored in Saturday's 10-4 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds opened the scoring with a solo shot in the first inning and added an RBI double in the fifth. He's been red-hot against Atlanta pitching, going 8-for-12 through the first three games of this weekend series. Saturday was the first time since June 1 he's hit an extra-base hit. The outfielder is up to a .243/.322/.422 slash line with nine homers, 16 RBI, 23 runs scored and three stolen bases through 230 plate appearances. His recent surge has seen him turn around his season in the last week-plus.
Jun 2, 2022
Homers again Wednesday
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, two total runs, a stolen base and two walks in Wednesday's 8-4 win against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds reached base four times in the contest for the second time this season. His biggest hit was a fifth-inning two-run homer that gave the Pirates a 3-1 lead. Reynolds has eight long balls on the campaign, including three over his past six games.
May 31, 2022
Showing more power
Reynolds went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Monday against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds went yard in the third inning to record his seventh home run of the season. It was his third long ball in his last nine games, though he's still hitting just .171 in that span. Perhaps more of an indication that Reynolds is getting on track at the dish is his 18.1 percent strikeout in May, after he punched out at a 26.7 percent clip in the first month of the season.
May 28, 2022
Slugs sixth homer
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Friday against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds took Sean Manaea yard in the first inning to record his sixth home run of the season and second in six starts. He hasn't hit particularly well in that span, as he has only two additional knocks. Reynolds has shown glimpses of breaking out a season-long slump but is still hitting just .217/.312/.382 across 173 plate appearances.
May 26, 2022
Scores twice
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored Wednesday against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds snapped a three-game hitless streak by tallying his fifth double of the season. He's shown glimpses of breaking out of his season-long slump, as he has six multi-hit performances in 21 games since May 1. However, Reynolds is hitting just .237/.333/.421 in that span with three homers, five RBI and eight runs scored.
May 22, 2022
Slugs two-run shot
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Saturday's loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds collected two extra-base hits off rookie hurler Matthew Liberatore, and his fifth-inning, two-run shot was among the final blows that chased the left-hander from the game. The long ball was Reynolds' first since he homered in back-to-back contests May 7 and 8. He is batting just .231 on the season, but he has picked things up of late, collecting multiple hits in each of his past three contests.
May 21, 2022
Records seventh RBI
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Friday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds tallied his first RBI since May 8 when he dumped in a single in the eighth inning. During his nine-game drought, Reynolds hit just .188 with one run scored. Reynolds has yet to get going at the dish, maintaining a .306 wOBA and 98 wRC+ with four home runs, 12 runs scored and seven RBI through 148 plate appearances on the season.
May 14, 2022
Riding pine Saturday
Reynolds isn't starting Saturday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds has gone 0-for-11 with two walks and four strikeouts over his last three games, and he'll be out of the lineup for the first time since April 26. Jack Suwinski will take over in center field while Diego Castillo starts in right.
May 9, 2022
Slugs another homer
Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Sunday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds took Dauri Moreta yard in the eighth inning to record his fourth homer of the season and second in as many days. After a concerning start to the season, Reynolds has registered at least one hit in eight of his last 10 games, also collecting three RBI and seven runs scored. Overall, Reynolds is hitting .223/.324/.394 across 108 plate appearances.
May 8, 2022
Smacks third homer
Reynolds went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds went 0-for-3 with a walk in the first game against Cincinnati, but he took Dauri Moreta yard in the first inning of the second contest to record his third homer of the season. While he's hitting only .220 to begin the season, Reynolds has collected at least one hit in seven of his last nine games while also picking up two RBI and six runs scored in that span.
Apr 30, 2022
Scores twice, swipes bag
Reynolds went 0-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and a stolen base Friday against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds has been in a slump of late, collecting only three hits across his last 38 plate appearances. However, he has earned six free passes in that span, which was his primary path to making offensive contributions Friday. He still has only six runs scored across 18 games to begin the campaign, and he has not tallied an RBI since April 14.
Apr 27, 2022
Activated after one-day absence
Pittsburgh reinstated Reynolds (illness) from the COVID-19-related injured list Wednesday. Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Reynolds will be included in the lineup for the Pirates' game later in the day against the Brewers, according to Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds and Cole Tucker were both added to the COVID-19 IL list Tuesday, but the former player looks as though he was able to quickly test out of MLB's protocols for the virus. His absence for only one game is a fortunate break for fantasy managers who kept him active in weekly lineups that locked Monday, as Reynolds will likely start in each of the Pirates' remaining five games this week. The 2021 All-Star heads into Wednesday's contest with a .190 average, two home runs, four runs and three RBI on his ledger for the season.
Apr 26, 2022
Heads to COVID-19 IL
The Pirates placed Reynolds on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The virus appears to be making its way around the Pittsburgh clubhouse, as Reynolds and Cole Tucker were placed on the list, while multiple staff members are also away from the team as the Pirates kick off a three-game series with the Brewers. Reynolds will be eligible to rejoin the Pirates once he completes a quarantine and is no longer testing positive for the virus, but fantasy managers should prepare for the possibility of missing the team's entire six-game week. Jake Marisnick and minor-league call-up Jack Suwinski could fill near-everyday roles in the outfield while both Reynolds and Tucker aren't available.
Apr 17, 2022
Receives first breather of 2022
Reynolds is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
The Pirates will extend Reynolds his first day off of the season after he started in each of the team's first eight games while going 9-for-33 (.273 average) with two home runs, three runs and three RBI. Jake Marisnick will enter the starting nine in place of Reynolds, batting leadoff while manning center field.
Apr 15, 2022
Records second homer
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and two walks Thursday against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds reached base four times, with the highlight of his performance coming in the third inning when he launched a two-run home run to right field. He now has two homers on the season, both of which have come in his last three games. Though Reynolds has no additional extra-base hits, he has recorded at least one knock in five of his six starts.
Apr 14, 2022
Reaches deal with Bucs
Reynolds and the Pirates agreed Thursday on a two-year contract to avoid arbitration, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The deal keeps Reynolds on the books through 2023, and he'll be eligible in arbitration for two years after that before reaching free agency for the first time following the 2025 season. Though he turned 27 years old in January and was a first-time All-Star in 2021, Reynolds may not necessarily fit into a Pirates rebuild that could last for a few more seasons. Even though Reynolds now under contract at a team-friendly rate, the Pirates could still make him available via trade if the price is right.
Apr 13, 2022
Tallies first homer
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds took Mychal Givens yard in the eighth inning to log his first homer of the season. As expected, he has been a fixture in the Pirates' lineup, as he's hit second in each of the team's first four games. The long ball marked Reynolds' first extra-base hit of the season, though he as least one knock in every contest to this point in the campaign.
Apr 6, 2022
Two hits in loss
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a RBI in a 5-1 loss Tuesday versus Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds started in center field and singled in his first two plate appearances against Zach Eflin. The 27-year-old crushed opposing pitching all spring and wrapped up the preseason with a .361/.368/.750 batting line and three home runs in 12 games. The 2021 All-Star never hit lower than third in the batting order in 2021 and has hit second in every spring training game this season. As long as he's a Pirate, he will likely be at the top of the order.
Oct 3, 2021
Not in Sunday's lineup
Reynolds is out of the lineup Sunday against the Reds, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and a run Saturday to raise his batting average over .300, and that will end up being his final start of the campaign. Unless he makes an appearance off the bench, the 26-year-old will finish 2021 with a .303/.391/.523 slash line, 24 homers, 35 doubles, eight riples, 90 RBI and 93 runs in 158 games.
Oct 2, 2021
Goes for four hits in win
Reynolds went 4-for-5 with two singles, a double, a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 8-6 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds fell a homer short of the cycle Saturday, pouring in his third four-hit game of the season. The first-time All-Star knocked in the winning run as well, scoring Yoshi Tsutsugo on an RBI triple that put the Bucs ahead for good. Reynolds entered play batting .298, but pushed his average to .303 with this outburst. He'll look to keep it in the .300s in the Pirates' final game of the season Sunday.
Oct 1, 2021
Sitting Friday
Reynolds isn't starting Friday's game against Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds has recorded hits in each of the last four games, and he went 7-for-13 with two triples, two doubles, four runs and four RBI during that time. Ben Gamel will shift to center field while Anthony Alford starts in left.
Sep 30, 2021
Triples twice in loss
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a pair of triples, a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds was the only Pirate to get on base multiple times Wednesday. He's now tied for second in the majors with seven triples this year, one behind Arizona's David Peralta for the lead. Through his last six games, Reynolds has gone 9-for-21 (.429). He's up to a stellar .298/.387/.516 slash line with 24 home runs, 89 RBI, 91 runs scored and five stolen bases through 636 plate appearances.
Sep 29, 2021
Hitting third after three-hit game
Reynolds will start in center field and bat third Wednesday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds' bat has cooled off in September, but he had a bounce-back game in Tuesday's 8-6 win, going 3-for-4 with a double and three runs. The 59-98 Pirates may tinker with lineups over the final five games of the campaign, but the 26-year-old All-Star should be one of the few constants.
Sep 22, 2021
Tough luck stretch continues
Reynolds went 0-for-3 with a pair of walks in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
He's now batting .295, a three-month low, with a September slash line (.262/.397/.492) that includes a .271 BABIP -- he held a .342 BABIP through August. Reynolds has also been pitched around more frequently, as evidenced by a 14:12 BB:K in September. He's made 11 outs with exit velocities better than 90-mph in his last 10 starts, so it's possible some of those outs will start dropping in again.
Sep 21, 2021
Launches home run
Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBI in the loss versus the Reds on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The outfielder took Vladimir Gutierrez deep in the first inning for his 24th long ball of the season. He later drove in Cole Tucker with a sac-fly in the third inning. Since Sept. 5, Reynolds has batted .298 with three home runs, 11 RBI, 11 runs and a stolen base in 14 games.
Sep 19, 2021
On bench Sunday
Reynolds is not starting Sunday's game against the Marlins, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds is hitting .265 with four extra-base hits, five RBI and 10 walks in his last 10 games. Ben Games is playing center field Sunday, with Anthony Alford getting the start in left.
Sep 12, 2021
Slugs 23rd homer
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with two walks, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Saturday's 10-7 win over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old launched a two-run shot off Josiah Gray in the fifth inning to help the Bucs rally from a 5-2 deficit. Reynolds is slashing .314/.415/.543 through 10 games in September, and on the season he's batting an even .300 with 23 homers, five steals, 80 runs and 84 RBI.
Sep 5, 2021
Breaks out in big way
Reynolds went 4-for-5 with a grand slam and a stolen base in Sunday's 11-8 loss to the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
The performance was a much-needed boost to the outfielder -- he'd been mired in a 10-for-51 slump since Aug. 18. He got hit on his right wrist by the baseball when he stole second base Sunday, but remained in the game. Reynolds lifted his batting average back over the .300 mark (.301) after it had slipped to its lowest mark since June 16 (.293). He'll get three home games each against Detroit and Washington staffs in the coming week.
Sep 4, 2021
On bench Saturday
Reynolds is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Cole Tucker will man center field and lead off against right-hander Kyle Hendricks. Reynolds has cooled since the break, but he established himself as one of the few long-term building blocks on the Pirates' current roster with his All-Star first half, and his OPS still sits just shy of .900 for the season. He will get the occasional day off down the stretch as the team wants to be sure he's in a good spot heading into the offseason.
Sep 1, 2021
Collects hit in defeat
Reynolds went 1-for-4 in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
The center fielder is slashing .222/.295/.315 with zero home runs and six RBI in 61 plate appearances since Aug. 14 -- he hasn't compiled a multi-hit performance during that span, either. Surprisingly, Reynolds has struggled at Wrigley Field, where the team plays four games starting Thursday. He's hit .217 with no homers in 52 plate appearances, but has had success against Cubs starters Zach Davies and Alec Mills.
Aug 27, 2021
Resting Friday
Reynolds will sit Friday against the Cardinals, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds' season has been a very successful one overall, as he's bounced back from a poor 2020 campaign to hit .300/.381/.518 with a career-high 21 homers. He's been in a bit of a slump over his last 12 games, though, hitting just .209/.271/.302. He'll get the day off Friday, with Ben Gamel starting in center field.
Aug 23, 2021
Dog days of summer
Reynolds went 1-for-4 in Sunday's 3-0 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
He cooled off a bit last week, going 7-for-26 with two doubles in his last eight contests. Reynolds, who is a combined 7-for-47 against three of four upcoming St. Louis starters this week, has played in 121 of 124 games thus far. He slumped in September as a rookie and the Pirates may decide to sit him a bit more frequently going forward. Still, he's having a tremendous year on a last-place team, slashing .304/.387/.525 with 21 homers and 72 RBI.

Launches 21st homer
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with two walks, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI in a 14-4 win over the Brewers during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
The outfielder blasted a two-run shot as part of a six-run fifth inning for the Pirates that put the game firmly out of reach. Reynolds has gone yard three times in the last six games, giving him 21 homers on the season, and headed into Saturday's nightcap he's batting .306 (11-for-36) through 12 games in August with nine runs and 13 RBI.
Aug 13, 2021
Smacks 20th homer
Reynolds went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds wasn't in the lineup for Thursday's matchup, but he was productive as a pinch hitter and narrowed the deficit to one run with his two-run blast in the bottom of the ninth inning. The 26-year-old has displayed plenty of power across the last five games, as he's gone 6-for-16 with two homers, a triple, a double, five RBI and three runs during that time.

Reynolds went 3-for-4 with three RBI and fell a double shy of the cycle Saturday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds produced all of Pittsburgh's runs, tripling in a run in the third inning and adding a two-run homer in the eighth for his 19th long ball of the season. Reynolds had been scuffling a bit since the calendar flipped to August, going 3-for-17 (.176) in the first six games of the month, but Saturday's outburst upped his season slash line to .308/.390/.530 in 451 plate appearances.
Aug 4, 2021
On base four times in loss
Reynolds went 2-for-2 with a triple, two walks and two runs scored in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
The star outfielder was able to reach each time he got on base, and he scored on a Jacob Stallings double and a John Nogowski sacrifice fly. This was just the second multi-hit effort for Reynolds in his last nine games, as he's cooled off a bit with a .267 batting average in that span. He's still slashing a hearty .308/.391/.523 through 440 plate appearances overall.

Hitless in three at-bats
Reynolds went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Tuesday's 9-0 loss to the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
While it's understandable that he was taken out after eight innings in the blowout, it's also interesting that he was scheduled to bat second in the ninth inning. There was no word about any injury, but it's something worth keeping an eye on. Jared Oliva replaced Reynolds in center field.

He delivered an RBI single that scored Adam Frazier in the top of the first, and then he added another RBI single in the fourth, also scoring Frazier. The outfielder has been one of the Pirates' most reliable offensive weapons this season and is hitting .312 with a .931 OPS on the season.

Jun 19, 2021
Socks 11th homer
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 11-10 win over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
He took J.C. Mejia deep in the third inning for his 11th long ball of the year, giving the Pirates a 6-0 lead that eventually grew to 11-1 before Cleveland mounted a late charge. Reynolds has reeled off three straight multi-hit performances, and he's slashing a dynamic .333/.419/.611 through 15 games in June with four homers, a steal, 10 RBI and 10 runs.
Jun 12, 2021
On base three times
Reynolds went 1-for-3 with an RBI, two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 7-4 loss to Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS

Jun 12, 2021
Reaches base Friday
Reynolds collected an infield single in a pinch-hitting appearance Friday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
The outfielder figures to return to the lineup Saturday. He's 2-for-6 against tough right-hander Corbin Burnes. Reynolds hit his 10th homer Thursday in his 247th plate appearance. ANALYSIS

The 26-year-old has been one of the more consistent hitters on his team so far this season, slashing .286/.387/.489 seven homers, 23 RBI, 30 runs scored and a 27:48 BB:K.
May 28, 2021
Swats fifth home run of 2021

May 26, 2021
Tough night at office
Reynolds went 0-for-4 with three swinging strikeouts in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
The switch-hitter had an uncharacteristically tough night, stranding six base-runners. Prior to Tuesday, Reynolds had slashed .324/.400/.549 with 10 doubles and two homers in 80 May plate appearances. He battled lower body soreness two weeks ago but has started in all of the team's last 11 games.

May 16, 2021
Three hits against Giants
Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Saturday's 8-6 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The switch hitter continues to put a rough sophomore campaign behind him. After managing only a .632 OPS in 2020, Reynolds has rebounded with a .301/.400/.481 slash line through 37 games to begin this season, adding three homers, 15 RBI and 24 runs.
May 13, 2021
Returns to lineup
Reynolds (lower body) is starting Thursday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds was held out of Wednesday's lineup due to lower-body soreness, but he'll bat third and play center field Thursday. Across his last three games, Reynolds has gone 3-for-7 with two doubles, a run, four walks and two strikeouts.
May 12, 2021
Managing minor injury
Pirates sports medicine director Todd Tomczyk said that Reynolds is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Reds due to lower-body soreness, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds will still be available out of the bench, so the Pirates appear to be holding him out as a precaution for the day game after a night game. The 26-year-old is expected to rejoin the starting nine in Thursday's series opener against the Giants.
May 12, 2021
Receives breather Wednesday
Reynolds is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The newly acquired Ben Gamel will be filling in for Reynolds, who is likely just getting some routine maintenance for a day game after a night game. Reynolds had been one of the Pirates' top performers in the first two games of the series with Cincinnati, drawing four walks while going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run.
May 12, 2021
Reaches base three times
Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a double and two walks in a 7-2 win over the Reds on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
He reached base seven straight times before grounding out in the seventh inning Tuesday. Reynolds, who ranks second in the majors with 13 doubles, has shown no ill effects from the lower body soreness that caused him to sit out Saturday and Sunday. The outfielder is 4-for-8 with a double and two homers against Wednesday starter, Sonny Gray.
May 10, 2021
Slated to return Monday
Reynolds (lower body) will return to the lineup Monday against the Reds, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds had missed the last two days due to lower-body soreness. Across his last six appearances, Reynolds has hit .280 with a home run, five doubles, three runs and three RBI.
May 9, 2021
Managing lower body soreness
Reynolds is considered day-to-day with lower body soreness, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was held out of the lineup Saturday for what initially appeared to be a standard day off, but he's instead dealing with an injury. Reynolds hasn't been deemed unavailable for Sunday and the Pirates have yet to release a lineup, though he seems unlikely to start in the series finale versus the Cubs.
May 8, 2021
Gets breather Saturday
Reynolds isn't starting Saturday against the Cubs, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds will be out of the lineup for just the second time this season after he went hitless in five at-bats Friday. Wilmer Difo will start in center field and bat second.
May 6, 2021
Goes deep in loss
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a home run Wednesday against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds took Yu Darvish deep in the sixth inning in what was his third long ball of the season, but that was his lone hit Wednesday. Reynolds has been seeing the ball well of late, though, as he extended his hitting streak to five games and has recorded at least one extra-base hit in each one of those contests.
May 5, 2021
Pair of doubles
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in a 2-1 victory over the Padres on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds gave Pittsburgh an early lead with his third inning RBI double and added another 2-bagger in the fifth. It's the fourth straight game Reynolds has recorded a double, giving him 1 on the season good for second in MLB.
Apr 23, 2021
On base four times
Reynolds went 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI on Thursday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds reached base in all four of his plate appearances and continued his strong start to the campaign. He's now tallied three multi-hit games in his last five starts and is hitting .313/.418/.463 across 79 plate appearances. Reynolds should maintain a spot in the heart of the Pirates' order, giving him the opportunity to accrue solid counting stats -- even in a subpar lineup.
Apr 22, 2021
Makes outfield move
Reynolds will bat third and play center field in Thursday's game against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Following the DFAs of both Anthony Alford and Dustin Fowler, Reynolds will make his first start in center field in 2021. He continues to hit well, slashing .308/.400/.462 in 75 plate appearances. Reynolds is 1-for-2 with a two-run single against Thursday starter, Jose Urena.
Apr 18, 2021
Productive day at plate
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk, and three total runs scored in Sunday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Brewers. He was also hit by a pitch.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds hit a double in the third inning before scoring on Colin Moran's three-run homer. In the seventh, Reynolds restored the Pirates' lead with a two-run shot. He then served as the initial runner in the 10th and scored the last go-ahead run on a double by Moran. Through 68 plate appearances, Reynolds has a .317/.397/.483 slash line with two homers, seven RBI and 11 runs scored. He's 0-for-1 on stolen base attempts, but speed isn't a large part of the outfielder's game.
Apr 12, 2021
Multi-hit effort Sunday
Reynolds went 4-for-5 in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
It's looking more and more like his poor offensive work in 2020 (.189/.275/.357) was an anomaly. Reynolds, who's batting average .324, continues to hit third in the lineup while playing left field. There has been talk of shifting him over to center field to make room for Phillip Evans in the outfield when Ke'Bryan Hayes (wrist) returns to third base, but nothing has yet been decided.
Apr 11, 2021
Drives in a pair Saturday
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a double, walk and two RBI in Saturday's 8-2 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
If the team's center field platoon of Anthony Alford and Dustin Fowler continues to struggle, then there's a chance Reynolds could shift to center, making space for hot-hitting Phillip Evans in left. Reynolds had a potential infield single taken away from him Saturday when the umpire ruled that he ran inside the baseline.
Apr 9, 2021
Looks to rebound Saturday
Reynolds, who went 0-for-5 on Thursday, has five hits in 14 career at-bats against Saturday starter, Zach Davies.
ANALYSIS
He never went more than one start without reaching base as a rookie in 2019, when he slashed .314/.377/.503 in 546 plate appearances. Avoiding prolonged slumps, like his 5-for-44 start in 2020, will go a long way toward getting the outfielder, who never hit under .300 prior to last summer, back on track in 2021.
Apr 7, 2021
Not starting Wednesday
Reynolds is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He'll take a seat for the first time this season while Pirates manager Derek Shelton gives Phillip Evans a spin in left field. Reynolds has recorded a hit in each of the Pirates' first five games, going 6-for-19 with a solo home run and two additional runs.
Apr 5, 2021
Extends hit streak to three games
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
His swinging strike percentage (20.4) is nearly twice as high as his career mark (11.7), but he's still batting .333 in his first 12 at-bats. Reynolds has played every game in left field while batting third in the lineup. The 26-year-old's start might not see extraordinary, but he started the 2020 campaign with just five hits in his first 44 at-bats.
Apr 1, 2021
Faces tough matchup Thursday
Reynolds will hit third and play left field in Thursday's opener in Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds is hitless in 11 career at-bats against Thursday starter, Kyle Hendricks. The switch-hitter, who slashed .189/.275/.357 in 2020, looked like a different batter in spring training, where he hit .304 with three homers and two steals in 54 plate appearances.
Mar 20, 2021
Solid spring continues
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI in an 11-9 loss to Baltimore on Friday.
ANALYSIS
He moved to center field from his customary left field spot Friday and will likely do so occasionally during the regular season. Reynolds is batting .296 with two homers and five RBI in 27 spring at-bats as he looks to rebound from a disastrous 2020. Prior to last season, the 26-year-old hadn't hit lower than the .300 mark in four pro years.
Feb 22, 2021
Locked into starting role
Reynolds will have a clear starting role this season in left or center field, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Derek Shelton named a handful of locked-in starters Monday, and Reynolds was among that group despite a very poor sophomore season. After hitting .314/.377/.503 as a rookie, he hit just .189/.275/.357 last year. A massive drop in his BABIP from .387 to .231 explains much of the change, though his average exit velocity also dropped two ticks from 89.5 to 87.5. It's probably wise to expect Reynolds' third-season numbers to fall somewhere between those from his first two, leaving him as a passable but unexciting late-round outfielder.
Sep 26, 2020
Clubs seventh homer
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 8-0 win over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds extended Pittsburgh's lead to 5-0 with his two-run shot off Aaron Civale in the third inning. The long ball was Reynolds' seventh of the year. He's added 24 runs scored and 19 RBI despite batting a paltry .188 in 181 at-bats this year.
Sep 24, 2020
Hits sixth homer
Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in the 7-0 win over the Cubs on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The homer off Alec Mills marked Reynolds's sixth of the campaign and it extended Pittsburgh's lead to 2-0 in the second. The outfielder is slashing a disappointing .191/.282/.353 with 17 RBI and 23 runs scored on the campaign.
Sep 23, 2020
Out of lineup
Reynolds is not starting Wednesday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds has been quite disappointing in his second big-league season, hitting just .178/.272/.325. The Pirates have allowed him to work through his struggles, including him in 48 of the team's 56 lineups thus far, but it hasn't been working. Jared Oliva takes over in center field Wednesday.
Sep 20, 2020
Assumes leadoff role
Reynolds will start in center field and bat leadoff Sunday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds will bat atop the lineup for the third game in a row, and he could find a home there for the rest of the season after Pittsburgh recently lost two potential table-setting options to the injured list in Kevin Newman (knee) and Cole Tucker (concussion). After producing an .880 OPS in 2019, Reynolds has been one of several Pittsburgh hitters who has taken a big step back during the Pirates' 15-37 season. He'll head into the series finale versus St. Louis with a .178/.279/.331 slash line across 179 plate appearances.
Sep 19, 2020
Pops fifth homer
Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run during a 7-2 loss to the Cardinals in the second game of Friday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
After going 0-for-3 with an RBI in the matinee, Reynolds supplied all of the Pirates' offense in the nightcap with his fifth-inning blast off Daniel Ponce de Leon. It's the first multi-hit performance by the outfielder since Sept. 3, and on the season Reynolds is slashing a miserable .182/.280/.338 with five homers and 16 RBI through 47 games.
Sep 16, 2020
Not in Wednesday's lineup
Reynolds will be on the bench Wednesday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds sits after starting 13 straight games. He hit just .150/.306/.325 over that stretch, though that was actually enough to boost his season OPS up slightly from .590 to .602. Cole Tucker starts in center field in his absence.
Sep 13, 2020
Pops fourth homer
Reynolds went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Royals.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old went deep in the second inning for his fourth homer of the year. Reynolds has struggled to build any momentum at the plate in 2020, and it's fair to wonder if his focus has been fully on the field given that his wife just gave birth to their first child -- since returning from the paternity list Sept. 3 he's reached base safely in eight of nine games, but Reynolds is still only slashing .167/.306/.400 over that stretch.
Sep 2, 2020
Active but not starting
Reynolds was activated from the paternity list Wednesday but is not in the lineup against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear whether or not Reynolds simply isn't ready to start after his brief period away from the team or if he's set to slip into a smaller role. He's struggled to a .184/.270/.320 line this season and has just one hit in his last six games. Anthony Alford starts in left field Wednesday.
Aug 30, 2020
Moves to paternity list
Reynolds was placed on the paternity list prior to Sunday's game against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds is in the midst of a 1-for-21 slump, so it's good timing for him to be away from the team for a few days to spend time with his family. Will Craig was recalled from the alternate training site in a corresponding move.
Aug 30, 2020
Can't snap slump
Reynolds went 0-for-4 in a 7-6 loss to Milwaukee on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
He has one hit in his last 21 at-bats, sinking his slash line to .184/.270/.320 with two homers and eight RBI in 115 plate appearances. Reynolds' line-drive rate is identical (23.9 percent) to his 2019 number, but his .264 BABIP is below the .300 mark for the first time in his professional career. He batted seventh in the lineup Saturday for just the second time in 2020.

Nearly hits for cycle
Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a home run, one triple, four RBI and three runs in Friday's win against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds had been unable to generate much production recently as he went just 2-for-23 with a home run and 10 strikeouts over his past seven games. However, he was dominant against the Brewers as he fell a double short of the cycle and led the Pirates' offensive charge. He's now hitting .205 with seven extra-base hits and five RBI this season.

Hits first home run of the season
Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a solo home run as the Pirates fell to the reds 8-1 Friday night.
ANALYSIS
It appeared Reynolds may have been turning things around at the plate last week after posting back-to-back multi-hit games but he has followed that up by recording a hit in just one of his last 18 at-bats. While it is positive that his lone hit resulted in his first long ball and RBI of the season, it remains a concern that he still is struggling to see the ball after hitting .314 in 134 games in 2019. With the shortened season, it may be difficult to continue to hold on to Reynolds if he continues to have his hitting woes, hopefully moving forward he can step up to the plate with some more confidence now that he has finally hit his first home run of this year.

Slump becoming memory
Reynolds went 3-for-5 with a walk and three runs in Friday's 17-13 loss to Detroit.
ANALYSIS
After starting the season with three hits in his first 30 at-bats, Reynolds is hitting .400 in his last 15 at-bats. The left fielder has contributed with a league-leading four outfield assists but is now back to producing on offense. Reynolds, who holds a .320 career batting average against right-handed pitchers, will face Detroit righty Ivan Nova on Saturday afternoon.

Early season slump continues
Reynolds went 0-for-3 with a walk in Monday's 5-4 loss to Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
He's batting .129 in 31 at-bats with a 6:12 BB:K. Reynolds has collected just two extra-base hits (both doubles) and has whiffed 12 times in his last eight games. The 25-year-old has never batted below .300 since turning pro in 2016, however, so there's hope for a rebound. Tuesday marks the first time Reynolds will face starter Jose Berrios.

Not starting Sunday
Reynolds is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds started the first eight games of the season in left field but will receive the day off Sunday as he is 4-for-27. Phillips Evans receives the start in left field for the Pirates.

Posts best game of season
Reynolds went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Tuesday's 8-6 win over Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
The hits were the first of 2020 for Reynolds, who entered the contest in an 0-for-13 funk. He batted fifth in the lineup for the second straight time after slotting second in the first three games. The outfielder showed off his all-around ability, gunning down a go-ahead baserunner at home plate in a tied game.

Part of Sunday lineup
Reynolds will bat second and play left field Sunday against St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
He's off to a rough start, going 0-for-7 with a walk through two games. Reynolds is making solid contact, however, with a pair of deep drives to the warning track. He never went three straight starts without a hit in 2019, though he's hitless in five career at-bats (with two walks) against starter Dakota Hudson. It wouldn't be surprising to see Reynolds good for a couple knocks Sunday.

Set for steady duty
Reynolds, who primarily batted second in the order last year, is expected to hit from the same spot in the batting order, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds's wife is expecting, so there's a chance the left fielder could miss several games during the season. He compiled a 4.1 WAR while slashing .314/.377/.503 as a rookie. The switch hitter batted .264 in 157 plate appearances from the right side, leaving room for improvement in his sophomore campaign.

Manager expects Reynolds to play
Manager Derek Shelton believes Reynolds will report to training camp, even though his wife is pregnant and he has an opt-out clause for the 2020 season, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
"I'm planning on everybody being in camp, and definitely respect the wishes of anybody that is high risk or has a spouse that's high risk and definitely support people in the decisions that they make because it's life decisions," Shelton said. "We have had no indication from anybody [that they wouldn't attend] as of now." Reynolds slashed .314/.377/.503 in 2019 and is expected to serve as the team's left fielder. His absence would leave a huge void in Pittsburgh's lineup.

Gets first hit of spring
Reynolds reached base three times Friday, going 1-for-1 with a single and two walks against Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
The outfielder slashed .314/.377/.503 with 16 homers and three steals in 546 plate appearances as a rookie in 2019. He batted second in Pittsburgh's lineup most of last year and figures to hit near the top of the order once again, though manager Derek Shelton has yet to publicly discuss the team's lineup. Reynolds had his worst month last September, when he hit just .230 in 87 at-bats, but it's likely he simply wore down. His .387 BABIP in 2019 could be due for regression, but he's never finished with a BABIP lower than .362 in four professional seasons.

Will primarily play in left field
Reynolds is set to start in left field following the signing of center fielder Jarrod Dyson, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Reynolds, a natural center fielder, started at all three outfield spots in 2019 but played mostly in left field (75 starts). He hit a combined .314/.377/.503 in 546 plate appearances as a rookie and will be counted upon to provide production in the middle of Pittsburgh's batting lineup. The switch-hitter has never batted under .300 in any of his four professional seasons. His 21 home runs split between Pittsburgh (16) and Triple-A Indianapolis (5) in 2019 represented a career best.

Reynolds leave with injury Sunday
Reynolds left Sunday's game with an apparent leg injury after he was involved in a collision at home plate.
ANALYSIS
The outfielder slid feet-first into catcher Tony Wolters and showed no immediate signs of injury. He initially headed out into the field in his customary left field spot, but then walked back into the dugout before the start of the next inning. While he was limping ever so slightly, it didn't seem as if the injury was too serious. The team will likely update Reynolds's status after the game. Pittsburgh doesn't play again until Tuesday.
