Inefficient versus Rangers
Woo allowed two hits and three walks while striking out five over 3.2 shutout innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Friday.
ANALYSIS
While he didn't give up a run, Woo needed 82 pitches (44 strikes) to get 11 outs. Manager Scott Servais elected not to push the young right-hander further, and the bullpen was able to keep the shutout going with 5.1 scoreless innings distributed between five relievers. Woo finishes the regular season with a 4.21 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 93:31 K:BB as well as a 4-5 record through 18 starts spanning 87.2 innings. He also logged 44 innings with a 2.05 ERA with Double-A Arkansas after throwing just 57 innings across three levels last year. Should the Mariners push their way into the postseason, Woo would likely work out of the bullpen if he gets onto the playoff roster at all.

Surrenders four homers in loss
Woo (4-5) allowed six runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six in just 3.1 innings in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Sunday was a nightmare outing for Woo, who had given up just six home runs in 16 starts heading into the day but surrendered four home runs and got just 10 outs. Marcus Semien led things off with a solo blast in the first followed by a two-run shot from Corey Seager in the third. Adolis Garcia then kicked off the fourth with a homer and Woo was finally pulled after Leody Taveras took him deep just three batters later. Woo has sandwiched two scoreless outings in between two poor outings during which he combined to give up 11 runs. He'll look to end things on the right foot with a rematch against the Rangers in the final week of the season.

Walks four in win
Woo (4-4) allowed three hits and four walks while striking out six over five shutout innings to earn the win Monday over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
While Woo's four walks were a season high, he was able to turn in his third scoreless outing in his last four starts. Two of those efforts have been against Oakland, so there is somewhat of a caveat for the quality of the opponent, but it's still encouraging to see the rookie find a groove late in the year. Woo is at a 3.90 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 82:26 K:BB through 80.2 innings over 16 starts. He is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Rangers this weekend.
Sep 13, 2023
Steady in third win
Woo (3-4) allowed four hits and struck out eight without walking a batter over 5.2 shutout innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Woo received some extra rest between starts, and it seems that paid off for the Mariners. He threw 67 of 83 pitches for strikes, and just one of the four hits he allowed went for extra bases. The rookie right-hander has won two of his last three outings, allowing five runs over 16.2 innings in that span. He's at a 4.16 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 76:22 K:BB through 75.2 innings through 15 starts. Woo's tentatively projected for a favorable road start in Oakland next week, though it's unclear if the Mariners will build in any additional time off for him as they remain in pursuit of a playoff spot.

Set to start Tuesday
Woo will start Tuesday against the Angels, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Woo had his previous turn in the rotation skipped, though he'll be called on just four days later, so it's perhaps more accurate to say that he'll merely be receiving a few extra days of rest. Woo has had his moments this season, but his ERA now sits at 4.50 after he allowed five runs in five innings against the Reds in his most recent start. Given that his 114 innings between the majors and minors this season far outpace the 57 he threw last season, it's reasonable to expect him to be handled very cautiously down the stretch.
Sep 8, 2023
Being skipped in rotation
Woo will not start Saturday against the Rays as he is skipped in the Mariners' rotation, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Seattle will go with a bullpen game instead at Tampa Bay, with Luke Weaver serving as the bulk pitcher. Woo is up to 114 innings this year between the minors and majors -- double what he threw in 2022 -- and he was knocked around for five earned runs over five innings in his last start Tuesday at Cincinnati. The 23-year-old will grab some extra rest before returning to the Mariners' rotation mix late next week.
Sep 4, 2023
Falls to Cincinnati
Woo (2-4) took the loss Monday, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks over five innings against Cincinnati without recording a strikeout.
ANALYSIS
The Reds got to Woo early Monday, scoring twice in the first inning before adding three more in the second on a Spencer Steer home run. The rookie right-hander would eventually settle in, delivering three scoreless frames to finish the outing, though he'd ultimately take his first loss since July 23. Woo had pitched well since coming off the IL in late August, allowing just one run in his previous two starts (10 innings). Overall, he sports a 4.50 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 68:22 K:BB across 14 starts (70 innings) this season. Woo's tentatively lined up for a road matchup with the Rays in his next outing.
Aug 29, 2023
Looks good against Oakland
Woo (2-3) allowed three hits and a walk while striking out five over six shutout innings to earn the win Monday over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Woo earned his fourth quality start of the year, including his second in three outings, with this gem. The right-hander was efficient in throwing 45 of 69 pitches for strikes. He's at a 4.15 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 68:19 K:BB through 65 innings over 13 starts this season. The Mariners may take it easy with Woo down the stretch, though it's unknown if they have the rookie on a pitch count from start to start or on an innings limit for the season. He's tentatively lined up to make his next start on the road versus the Mets this weekend.
Aug 23, 2023
Solid in no-decision
Woo didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's victory over the White Sox, allowing an earned run on three hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Woo was capped at four innings during his return from a stint on the injured list due to forearm inflammation. The rookie right-hander pounded 43 of 65 pitches in for strikes and settled in nicely after giving up an RBI single to Andrew Vaughn in the first inning. Now apparently back to full health, Woo is likely to go long enough to qualify for a decision in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for either Sunday against the Royals or Monday versus the Athletics.
Aug 22, 2023
Unlikely to qualify for win Tuesday
The Mariners will likely limit Woo to four innings Tuesday against the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Woo was just activated from the injured list after missing 18 days with a forearm injury, and since he didn't go on a rehab assignment, the team will be cautious with his workload in this first start back. He is a solid add in fantasy going forward, but don't expect Woo to qualify for a win in Tuesday's start.
Aug 22, 2023
Reinstated from IL
Woo was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Woo missed time with right forearm inflation. The rookie did not need any rehab assignments after the Mariners were pleased with how his bullpen sessions went. As he works himself back from the injured list, his workload may be limited. The starting pitcher returns as Emerson Hancock heads to the 60-day injured list.
Aug 21, 2023
Set to start Tuesday
Woo (forearm) is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
It had been anticipated that Woo would start at some point during the series with the White Sox that kicks off Monday night, and he is now on track to take the ball Tuesday night. Woo did not head out on a rehab assignment, so he should be relatively stretched out. However, expect the Mariners to be cautious with him in his first game back.
Aug 21, 2023
Early-week activation possible
Woo (forearm) may be activated to start in the Mariners' three-game set against the White Sox beginning Monday after recovering well from a 20-pitch bullpen session Thursday, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Scott Servais confirmed Woo was feeling "really good" Saturday about 48 hours removed from the session and was projected to be activated and start either Tuesday or Wednesday against the White Sox. However, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports the Mariners' short-term pitching plans may have to be adjusted with Emerson Hancock potentially heading to the injured list due to a lat strain that forced his early exit from Sunday's start. Per Divish, that will definitively scrap Seattle's plans for a six-man rotation for the moment, and it may require the team to add a reliever for at least a couple of games before Woo is reinstated.
Aug 17, 2023
On track to return next week
Woo (forearm) is on track to rejoin the Mariners' rotation early next week against the White Sox, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Woo will throw what's expected to be a 30-pitch bullpen session Thursday and, as long he comes out of it with no issues, will be back with Seattle next week as part of a six-man rotation. The rookie right-hander has missed most of August with right forearm inflammation.
Aug 17, 2023
Bullpen session on tap
Woo (forearm) is slated to throw a 30-pitch bullpen session ahead of Thursday's series finale against the Royals, the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners will assess Woo's progress once they have a chance to observe how he recovers from the session. The forearm swelling Woo was experiencing has mostly subsided and he's been playing catch in recent days, so he remains optimistic of potentially being able to return from the injured list when first eligible Sunday.
Aug 14, 2023
Plays catch Monday
Woo (forearm) played catch Monday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
It has been less than a week since Woo landed on the injured list, and he has already been given the green light to throw, which backs up last week's report that the Mariners are not concerned about the injury. Woo could throw a bullpen session soon, and barring any setbacks could rejoin Seattle's rotation as early as next week.
Aug 8, 2023
Forearm issue considered minor
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Tuesday that there are "no real concerns" with Woo's right forearm, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Woo was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday afternoon due to right forearm inflammation, but Hollander called that a precautionary move and expressed optimism that the 23-year-old will only have to miss a couple of weeks. Emerson Hancock is getting the call Wednesday to fill the rotation vacancy in Seattle.
Aug 8, 2023
Lands on IL with forearm issue
Seattle placed Woo on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to August 5, with right forearm inflammation.
ANALYSIS
The severity of the issue is unclear, but Woo will miss at least a couple of turns in the Mariners' rotation. The 23-year-old right-hander leaves behind a 4.75 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 60:17 K:BB in his first 11 major-league starts covering 55 innings.
Aug 4, 2023
Tosses quality start Thursday
Woo pitched six innings against the Angels on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six batters in a no-decision.
ANALYSIS
Woo got through five scoreless frames before the Angels tagged him for two runs in the sixth. The right-hander departed in line for a tough loss but was let off the hook when Seattle rallied for four runs in the ninth. Woo got back on track in the strikeout department, fanning six batters after failing to record a punchout over five frames in his previous outing. His quality start Thursday was the third of his rookie campaign so far.
Jul 30, 2023
Logs zero punchouts in five frames
Woo pitched five innings against Arizona on Saturday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out zero batters in a no-decision.
ANALYSIS
Woo came into the contest with 54 punchouts over 44 big-league frames, so it was surprising to see him tally five innings without recording a single strikeout. Despite that oddity, the rookie righty managed a respectable showing, keeping Arizona off the scoreboard through three frames before allowing three runs over the fourth and fifth. Woo's ability to miss bats is perhaps his most alluring asset in fantasy, and it's logical to expect this outing to be an aberration in that regard. Still, Woo's a risky pitcher to roster in fantasy redraft leagues given a few shaky starts this season as well as the likelihood that he'll be shut down at some point to limit his workload.
Jul 23, 2023
Fans seven in loss
Woo (1-3) allowed four runs on four hits and a walk over six-plus innings Sunday, striking out seven and taking a loss against Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Woo tossed three scoreless frames before coughing up a two-run shot to Vladimir Guerrero in the fourth inning. Woo's given up multiple homers in two straight games after being taken deep just once in his previous four outings. Following a stretch of six consecutive starts allowing two or fewer runs, he's been tagged with 10 runs over his last two appearances. While his ERA rose to 4.91, he's sporting a strong 54:13 K:BB across 44 career MLB innings. Woo's next start is projected to be in Arizona.
Jul 19, 2023
Falters versus Twins
Woo (1-2) allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out four over 3.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Woo hadn't given up more than two runs in any of his six previous starts, but he struggled after a 10-day gap between outings. The Twins got to him for two runs in the first inning and then piled on in the third and fourth. Woo is now at a 4.74 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB over 38 innings through eight starts this season. He's lined up for a home start versus the Blue Jays this weekend.
Jul 8, 2023
Solid in no-decision
Woo allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Woo was arguably a little sharper than opposing starter Framber Valdez, but both pitchers exited with the game tied 2-2. This was Woo's second straight quality start, and it took him just 78 pitches (50 strikes) to complete six frames. While the four strikeouts matched a season low, he's allowed no more than two runs in each of his last six outings. He's at a 3.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB through 34.2 innings over seven starts. The Mariners intend to be careful with the 23-year-old rookie -- he'll likely begin the second half in the rotation, but it's expected he'll be shut down at some point before the end of the season to manage his workload.
Jul 4, 2023
Could have abbreviated second half
Woo, who could still make one more start before the All-Star break Saturday at Houston, is expected to be shut down at some point in the second half of the season in order to preserve his arm, Daniel Kramer of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie right-hander has been outstanding after stumbling out of the gates against the dangerous Rangers in his first major-league start back on June 3, pitching to a 1-0 record, 2.36 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 11.8 K/9 across the 26.2 innings covering his subsequent five outings. However, the Mariners have said all along they'll be careful with Woo, who, when factoring in the 44 frames he logged at Double-A Arkansas before his promotion, has already surpassed the 56 innings he pitched in 2022. General manager Justin Hollander has already alluded to the likelihood Woo will be shut down altogether at some point during the second half, adding "we're not just purely measuring innings; we're measuring stressful innings, how hard they're working in any given outing."
Jul 4, 2023
Turns in quality start
Woo allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings, taking a no-decision in Monday's 6-5 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Woo pitched well and completed six innings for the first time, earning his first quality start. The right-hander has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last five starts, though he has just one win to show for it. He's at a 4.08 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 39:8 K:BB through 28.2 innings over six career starts. He's in line for one more start before the All-Star break, a weekend road outing versus the Astros.
Jun 28, 2023
Solid in no-decision
Woo allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Nationals on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Woo continues to flash strong strikeout numbers with decent control -- he's at a 32:6 K:BB through 22.2 innings across his five starts. He gave up a run in the first and fifth innings Tuesday, but it was the Mariners' bullpen that cost him a chance at his second win. The rookie right-hander has a 4.37 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, and he's settled down after a shaky debut in Texas on June 3. With Marco Gonzales (forearm) suffering a setback, Woo should remain in the rotation well into July. He's projected to make his next start in San Francisco next week.
Jun 23, 2023
Notches first MLB victory
Woo (1-1) earned the win over the Yankees on Thursday, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out five batters over 5.1 scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Seattle set Woo up for success with four runs in the top of the first inning, and the rookie right-hander cruised to his first big-league victory with 5.2 scoreless frames. His three walks were a career high and certainly more than the Mariners wanted to see given the big lead they gave him, but none of the free passes came back to hurt him. Woo struggled in his first big-league start, giving up six runs over two frames against Texas, but he's been much better since, allowing just four runs over his subsequent 15.2 frames and posting a standout 21:4 K:BB over that stretch.
Jun 17, 2023
Strikes out nine in no-decision
Woo allowed two runs on three hits and struck out nine without walking a batter over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the White Sox on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Woo was sharp, though two of the three hits he allowed were solo home runs by Gavin Sheets and Andrew Benintendi. After a rough debut, Woo has turned in a couple of reasonably solid starts. He's still at a 7.30 ERA and 1.30 WHIP through 12.1 innings, but his 20:2 K:BB is a positive sign that he has the control to hang around in the majors. He'll remain in search of his first win next week in a projected road start versus the Yankees.
Jun 11, 2023
Better in second start
Woo allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Angels.
ANALYSIS
After getting tagged for six runs in two innings in his debut versus Texas, Woo was much improved against another AL West rival. He still needed 81 pitches (56 strikes) to get 14 outs, falling one-third of an inning short of qualifying for his first win. The blemish on his line Saturday was a two-run home run from Shohei Ohtani. Woo has managed an 11:2 K:BB over 6.2 innings to begin his major-league career -- his strikeout stuff has carried over from Double-A Arkansas, where he racked up 59 strikeouts in 44 innings this season. Assuming he gets another start, he's tentatively projected to face the White Sox in Seattle next week.
Jun 6, 2023
Remaining in rotation
Mariners GM Justin Hollander told reporters before Tuesday's game against the Padres that Woo will remain in the rotation for the time being, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Woo struggled mightily in his MLB debut against the Rangers on Saturday while allowing seven runs in just two innings of work. With Marco Gonzales (forearm) on the shelf and Tommy Milone on the minor-league 7-day injured list, the Mariners will give one of the top prospects in their system at least one more chance through the rotation. His ability to miss bats in the minors makes Woo an intriguing long-term bet, but there's just as much risk as there is reward for redraft leagues.
Jun 4, 2023
Suffers loss in MLB debut
Woo (0-1) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits and one walk over two innings against the Rangers. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Marco Gonzales (forearm) was placed on the injured list, so Woo was recalled from Double-A Arkansas and made his MLB debut Saturday. The outing certainly didn't go as planned for the 23-year-old, who was dominating in the minors, and it's unclear if he'll get another turn in the rotation. However, Seattle would likely have to select a player from the minors if they aren't going to give Woo another chance.
Jun 3, 2023
Selected for MLB debut
Seattle selected Woo's contract from Double-A Arkansas on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Woo is set to make his major-league debut in a start Saturday against the Rangers as he jumps all the way from the Double-A level. The 23-year-old right-hander had registered a sharp 2.05 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 59:12 K:BB through 44 innings (nine starts) this season in the Texas League and seems worthy of a try in most fantasy formats. He's replacing Marco Gonzales (forearm) in the Mariners' rotation.
Jun 2, 2023
Set for MLB debut Saturday
Woo is set to be called up and draw the start Saturday versus the Rangers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
With Marco Gonzales (forearm) being skipped in the rotation, Woo will jump straight from Double-A Arkansas to the big leagues. The 23-year-old has compiled an impressive 2.05 ERA and 0.89 WHIP with 59 strikeouts over 44 innings in nine starts with Arkansas this season. Woo was selected in the sixth round of 2021 MLB Draft and he'll join 2021 fourth-rounder Bryce Miller in making his major-league debut for Seattle in 2023.
