Loses postseason roster spot
Jarvis isn't on the Diamondbacks' NLDS roster, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Although Jarvis put up a 3.04 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 23.2 innings in the majors this season, the Diamondbacks didn't use him out of the bullpen during their series against the Brewers. He'll now be cast off the roster ahead of their Divisional Series matchup against the Dodgers in favor of Kyle Nelson.

Fans three in short appearance
Jarvis allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over 2.2 innings in Sunday's loss to the Astros. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis entered the game in the first inning after Kyle Nelson got off to a rocky start as the opener. Since the start of September, Jarvis allowed three earned runs over 11.2 frames. He registered a solid 3.04 in 23.2 MLB innings this season, mostly as a bullpen arm. The right-handed rookie could compete for a rotation spot with Arizona in 2024.

Slated to open Thursday's game
Jarvis is listed as the Diamondbacks' starting pitcher in Thursday's game against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field, Jesse Friedman of ArizonaSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis made 16 starts at Triple-A Reno this season, but each of his first nine big-league appearances with Arizona have come out of the bullpen. Though he'll draw his first MLB start Thursday, Jarvis hasn't covered more than 3.2 innings in any of his appearances with Arizona or Reno since the beginning of August, so he may not be asked to work especially deep into the contest. Even against a White Sox squad that ranks last in the majors with a 68 wRC+ in September, Jarvis doesn't make for an inspiring streaming option.

Finishes off Cubs
Jarvis struck out one over two scoreless innings in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis was the last of four Arizona relievers in support of starter Ryne Nelson, who was yanked after 3.1 innings (75 pitches, 40 strikes). The bullpen combined for 6.2 shutout innings, as the Diamondbacks swept the Cubs and leapfrogged them in the wild card race. Jarvis, who was called up Sunday, can provide length should the club need a starter over the final 11 games.

Back in big leagues
Jarvis was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Sunday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis has a 2.81 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 7:8 K:BB across 16 innings this season, so it's not a major surprise he'll receive another look in the big-league bullpen. Scott McGough (shoulder) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.

Optioned to Triple-A
Arizona optioned Jarvis to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis threw 28 pitches over two scoreless innings of relief in Wednesday's series finale against the Rockies and wasn't going to be available for a bit. Ryne Nelson has been called up in a corresponding roster move to start Thursday's series opener versus the Cubs.

To be optioned
The Diamondbacks will option Jarvis to Triple-A Reno on Thursday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryne Nelson is set to come up from the minors for a spot start Thursday, so Jarvis will be pushed off the active roster to free up a spot. Jarvis has posted a solid 3.21 ERA and 1.14 WHIP across 14 innings in the majors this season, so there's a chance he returns to Arizona's bullpen following Nelson's start.

Works in bulk relief Saturday
Jarvis gave up one earned run on two hits and one walk over 3.2 innings out of the bullpen en route to picking up his first big-league win in Saturday's 8-1 victory over the Padres in the second game of a doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis pitched behind opener Scott McGough, who tossed 2.1 scoreless innings before turning the game over to the rookie. Though Jarvis has now turned given up just two earned runs over 6.2 innings through his first two appearances with Arizona, he may end up serving as more of a pure reliever going forward rather than a primary pitcher. Arizona is expected to get some reinforcement to its rotation later this week, when Zach Davies (back) will likely be activated from the 15-day injured list.

Makes MLB debut
Jarvis allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out three over three innings in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis made his MLB debut after being summoned from Triple-A Reno on Sunday. He was given the bulk-inning role, throwing 51 pitches on what was a bullpen effort Tuesday. The right-hander was a starter in the minors but transitioned to the bullpen at Reno in preparation for a relief role for the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks are down a starter, so Jarvis could continue in a similar bulk-inning role for now. Zach Davies (back) was roughed up in his second rehab start Tuesday but did get up to 80 pitches. If the Diamondbacks hold him back for another rehab start, Jarvis could see bulk innings this coming Sunday.

Will pitch relief
Jarvis will pitch out of the bullpen in the majors, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis has been a starter throughout his minor league career but was recently moved to the bullpen at Triple-A Reno. The Diamondbacks are short starters right now and could use Jarvis for multiple innings in a variety of roles until the rotation is sorted out. The first step toward normalizing the rotation is getting Zach Davies (back) back. He will make a rehab start Tuesday and could return the following Sunday.

Gets first call to majors
Jarvis' contract was purchased from Triple-A Reno on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis hasn't worked as a starter at Triple-A since July 23, so he has presumably been preparing for a multi-inning relief role in the big leagues. Since exiting the Triple-A rotation, Jarvis has a 10:8 K:BB in 8.2 innings, so he probably won't be trusted in high-leverage situations.

Makes Cactus League start
Jarvis allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five over 4.2 innings in Monday's spring start against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis was smooth through three scoreless innings before ceding a three-run home run on a 1-0 changeup to Hanser Alberto in the fourth. This was his third appearance and first as a starter in Cactus League competition. The 2020 first-round draft pick compiled an 8.27 ERA with 27 homers allowed over 106.2 innings at Double-A Amarillo last season, which prompted him to make adjustments to his delivery during the offseason.

Making adjustments
Jarvis made adjustments to his delivery during the offseason, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
ANALYSIS
Specifically, Jarvis is getting more extension on his fastball, which averaged 5.2 feet of extension last season (average is 6.3 feet), one of the lowest marks in organized baseball. He possesses a 95 mph heater, but it was hit hard in 2022, and the right-hander believes it was due to his short extension. That means his fastball has farther to travel to home plate than that of the average pitcher, giving hitters more time to react. He got 5.8 feet earlier this week and has reached 6.1 to 6.3 feet of range in mound sessions this spring. Jarvis is also working on better pitch deception, so that hitters have less time to adjust to what he's throwing. The first-round pick in 2020 posted an 8.27 ERA and gave up 27 homer runs (2.3 HR/9) over 25 starts (106.2 IP) at Double-A Amarillo in 2022. The results thus far are encouraging. Jarvis has allowed one run on four hits while striking out three over four innings.

Rejoins Amarillo
Double-A Amarillo reinstated Jarvis (oblique) from its 7-day injured list Friday.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis is back in action with Amarillo for the first time since mid-July. The 2020 first-round pick had been shut down due to an oblique injury, but he proved his health during a three-inning appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Monday.

Nursing oblique injury
Jarvis was placed on the injured list Wednesday with an oblique issue, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jarvis allowed six runs in 4.2 innings in what was his worst start of the year July 11. Overall, the righty has pitched well, posting a 4.20 ERA through 60 innings in 2021. It's unclear how long Jarvis will be kept out of Double-A action with the injury.
