Falters in fourth inning
Miller (8-7) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over four innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Miller was solid through three innings, but he gave up a solo shot to Yordan Alvarez and a three-run home run to Mauricio Dubon in the fourth. Miller has faded toward the end of the campaign, allowing 15 runs over his last 18.2 innings, including four homers over his last two starts. He's likely done for the regular season with a 4.32 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 119:26 K:BB through 131.1 innings over 25 starts in his rookie year.

Roughed up by Rangers
Miller (8-6) allowed six runs on six hits and a walk over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out two and taking a loss against Texas.
ANALYSIS
Most of the damage against Miller came in the first two innings when he allowed a solo shot to Corey Seager and a three-run homer to Evan Carter. Miller had given up just one home run over his previous eight starts. During that stretch, he posted a strong 2.98 ERA and 38:7 K:BB over 42.1 frames. Miller's season ERA climbed to 4.17 through 127.1 innings. He's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Astros next week.
Sep 17, 2023
Strong outing Saturday
Miller allowed four hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
This was Miller's sixth scoreless outing of the year and his second since the start of August. He was solid, throwing 54 of 86 pitches for strikes, but he's now gone five starts without a win. The rookie right-hander is at a 3.88 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 113:24 K:BB through 123 innings over 23 starts this season. Miller is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Rangers in what will be a key matchup in the AL wild-card race.
Sep 10, 2023
Falls to Rays
Miller (8-5) took the loss Sunday, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings in a 6-3 loss against the Rays. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Tampa got to Miller early Sunday, scoring three runs in the first inning, eventually handing the rookie right-hander his first loss since Aug. 1. Miller hadn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his previous six starts, working to a 2.53 ERA in that span. Overall, his ERA now sits at 4.05 with a 1.11 WHIP and 109:23 K:BB across 117.2 innings this season. Miller will look to right the ship in his next outing, currently scheduled as a home matchup with the Dodgers.
Sep 5, 2023
One earned run in no-decision
Miller did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk over five innings against Cincinnati. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Miller's only blemish came on a run-scoring double in the third, and despite exiting with a 5-1 lead, the rookie right-hander settled for an unfortunate no-decision as Seattle's bullpen failed to preserve the lead. The 25-year-old has endured some rough patches in his first big-league season, but Tuesday marked Miller's sixth consecutive start allowing three or fewer earned runs. In 32 innings during that stretch, he has posted a 2.53 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 27:5 K:BB, but has just one win to show for it. His next outing is tentatively scheduled to take place in Tampa Bay over the weekend.
Aug 31, 2023
Settles for quality start
Miller came away with a no-decision Wednesday in the Mariners' 5-4 victory over the A's, giving up three runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
A Lawrence Butler two-run homer in the second inning helped put Seattle in an early hole, but Miller shut down the Oakland offense the rest of the way and exited the game after 94 pitches (63 strikes) with the score tied 3-3. The rookie right-hander has two quality starts in his last three outings, but his last one before that came June 18 as he's had trouble completing six innings consistently. Despite the bumps in the road, Miller will take a respectable 3.93 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 100:21 K:BB through 107.2 innings into his next start, which is likely to come next week in Cincinnati.
Aug 26, 2023
Short outing Friday
Miller allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six over four innings, taking a no-decision Friday versus the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Miller was fairly sharp, throwing 62 of 83 pitches for strikes, but the Royals were able to make some solid contact against him. This was the shortest of his eight starts since the All-Star break, and just the third time in that span he's given up three or more runs. The rookie right-hander is now at a 3.90 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 95:21 K:BB through 101.2 innings over 19 starts. He's projected to make his next appearance at home in another favorable matchup against the Athletics.
Aug 19, 2023
Impressive in win
Miller (8-4) earned the win Friday, allowing two hits and one walk over 6.1 scoreless innings against Houston. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
It was the first quality start for Miller since June 18, but the third consecutive start in which he's allowed one or fewer earned runs. Miller was efficient in tossing 82 pitches while working into the seventh but was pulled with one out in the inning following an error by shortstop Jose Caballero. The Mariners bullpen prevented any more damage and preserved the win for the rookie right-hander. Miller is projected to next take the Hill on the road in Chicago in a matchup against the White Sox.
Aug 13, 2023
Solid in no-decision
Miller allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out two over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Miller held his own against a tough team, but came away without a win for the third start in a row. Since the All-Star break, he's yet to complete six innings in any of his six starts, allowing 16 runs (15 earned) over 32.1 innings in that span. The rookie right-hander is at a 4.04 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 87:19 K:BB through 91.1 innings over 17 starts this season. Miller is projected to face the Astros on the road in his next outing.
Aug 7, 2023
Dominant against Angels
Miller yielded one run on five hits over five innings in Sunday's win over the Angels. He struck out 10 and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Miller allowed a run in the first inning but retired 14 of the last 16 batters he faced. He reached double-digit strikeouts for the first time since his MLB debut May 2 and set forced a career-high 22 swinging strikes. It was a very encouraging performance after Miller had been tagged with six runs in each of his last two starts. The right-handed rookie will carry a 4.20 ERA into his next appearance, which is currently projected to be at home against the Orioles.
Aug 2, 2023
Gives up six-spot again
Miller (7-4) allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Miller has given up six runs in each of his last two starts, and the long ball is the culprit. Over 11.1 innings in that span, he's surrendered six home runs, one shy of his total from his other 13 outings combined. The rookie right-hander saw his ERA inflate to 4.35 with a 1.04 WHIP and 75:17 K:BB through 80.2 innings over 15 starts overall. Miller is projected for a road start versus the Angels over the weekend.
Jul 26, 2023
Tagged for six runs in win
Miller (7-3) earned the win Wednesday, allowing six runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings against the Twins. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
It wasn't Miller's best outing on paper, but he got just enough run support in the 7-6 win while racking up his highest strikeout total since he punched out 10 in his major-league debut in May. The 24-year-old Miller had allowed just one run in his previous two starts (10.1 innings) out of the All-Star break. His ERA now sits at 3.96 with a 1.00 WHIP and 71:15 K:BB across 14 starts (75 innings) this season. He's lined up for a home start next week against the Red Sox.
Jul 22, 2023
Steady in no-decision
Miller allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Miller limited the damage to Danny Jansen's fifth-inning solo home run. Since returning from a finger blister, Miller has allowed just one run, eight hits and three walks over 10.1 innings across his two starts. The right-hander owns a 3.50 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 64:15 K:BB through 69.1 innings over 13 starts this season. He's lined up for a road start in Minnesota next week.
Jul 16, 2023
Earns sixth win
Miller (6-3) allowed five hits and a walk over five shutout frames Sunday, striking out three and earning a win over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Miller showed no signs of rust in his first appearance since June 30 after a brief stint on the injured list. He didn't find himself in much trouble as he lowered his season EAR to 3.66 with his first win since June 18. The rookie has allowed three or fewer runs in 10 of his first 12 career MLB starts. Miller's next start is currently lined up to be at home against the Blue Jays.
Jul 16, 2023
Officially activated
The Mariners reinstated Miller (finger) from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
A blister on Miller's right middle finger has kept him out of action since June 30, but he'll return to start Sunday against Detroit after a minimum 15-day stint on the IL. The 24-year-old righty holds a 3.97 ERA and 0.95 WHIP through 59 innings on the year, and he'll get to face a Tigers offense that ranks 28th in OPS. Matt Festa was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.
Jul 14, 2023
Starting Sunday vs. Tigers
Miller (finger) will start Sunday against the Tigers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Fantasy managers should make sure to get Miller into their weekend lineups if possible. He has been out with this blister since June 30.
Jul 13, 2023
Due back following All-Star break
Mariners manager Scott Servais said last Saturday that Miller (finger) will come back from the 15-day injured list and return to "the backside of our rotation coming out of the [All-Star] break, for sure," MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Servais' comments are somewhat of an about-face, considering that he told Janie McCauley of the Associated Press on July 4 that Miller wasn't going to pitch "for a while" after he was placed on the injured list a day earlier with a right middle finger blister. The rookie apparently overcame the blister issue quicker than initially anticipated, as he was throwing off flat ground from around 60 feet last weekend. The Mariners will likely re-evaluate Miller over the upcoming weekend and potentially observe him throwing during a side session before signing off on his return from the IL. Assuming he's good to go when the Mariners first require a fifth starter, Miller would line up to make his return to the rotation Tuesday versus the Twins at T-Mobile Park.
Jul 5, 2023
Won't pitch 'for a while'
Miller, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand, is "not going to pitch for a while" according to manager Scott Servais, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Servais added Miller will be limited to playing light catch for the time being. The overarching question for fantasy managers is naturally how the "for a while" portion of the Mariners' skipper's comment will be quantified, considering the upcoming All-Star break qualifies as a fairly extended layoff in and of itself. It appears likely the next week to 10 days will be integral to how quickly Miller can heal up from an injury that affects his velocity significantly, and if that downtime doesn't prove sufficient to return him to full health, there's a chance the rookie misses additional time once play resumes.
Jul 3, 2023
Placed on IL with blister
Miller was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday with a right middle finger blister, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller had to depart his start last Friday against the Rays with the blister and had been looking iffy for his next scheduled outing. Given that, it makes sense to go ahead and put him on the IL with the All-Star break approaching. Miller will be eligible to return July 16 against the Tigers during the Mariners' first series of the second half.
Jul 2, 2023
Next start in doubt
Miller, who exited Friday's start against the Rays with a blister on his right middle finger, may be forced to miss his next turn through the rotation, Brandon Gustafson of SeattleSports.com reports. "We're concerned," manager Scott Servais said. "We'll be hopeful he'll make his next start, but right now it's up in the air."
ANALYSIS
Miller would line up to face the Giants on Wednesday for his final pre-All-Star-break start, and despite the rookie's initial optimism after exiting the game Friday, he could be looking at a shutdown that extends through the Midsummer Classic. Servais explained prior to Saturday's game that Miller's finger was still very sore, and that although the right-hander was receiving treatment designed to get his nail down, a lot would be determined by whether he was dealing with pockets of blood below the surface. Given Miller's importance to Seattle's injury-hampered rotation, the team may well err on the side of caution and take full advantage of the extended layoff afforded by the upcoming pause in play to try and get him back to full health.
Jun 30, 2023
Leaves with blister on finger
Miller left Friday's start against the Rays with a blister on his right middle finger.
ANALYSIS
Miller went 3.1 innings and allowed two runs before being bounced from the effort due to the blister. The right-hander should be considered day-to-day with a chance to make his next scheduled start, but that will largely be determined by how the blister heels in the coming days.
Jun 30, 2023
Leaves with injury vs. Rays
Miller left Friday's start against Tampa Bay with an apparent injury, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. He allowed two runs in 3.1 innings with one walk and six strikeouts before leaving.
ANALYSIS
Miller was visited by trainers earlier in the fourth inning with what appears to be an injury to a finger on his right hand, but after allowing a two-run homer to Randy Arozarena, he was unable to continue. Matt Brash has taken over on the mound in Miller's place.
Jun 25, 2023
Struggles with command
Miller did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 4.1 innings in a 6-4 loss to the Orioles. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Miller struck out three of the first five batters he faced and appeared to be on track for another solid outing. However, he began to struggle with his command in the second, needing 25 pitches to get out of the inning while surrendering one run on two hits, along with one walk. It was more of the same in the third as the rookie walked the leadoff batter and later gave up a solo homer to Anthony Santander to tie the game at 2-2. Miller would only go on to be charged with three runs on the afternoon, but he lasted just 4.1 innings, throwing 96 pitches over that span. His ERA now sits at 5.49 in June and he's now allowed a home run in three of his last four starts after not allowing one over his first five starts to open the season.
Jun 18, 2023
Cruises to fifth win
Miller (5-3) allowed one run on four hits over seven innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Miller rolled through five shutout frames before the White Sox finally broke through with a run in the sixth inning. After coughing up 15 runs in a pair of losses, the right-handed rookie has allowed just two runs over 13 innings in his last two appearances. His season ERA is back down to 3.68 with a 45:8 K:BB across 51.1 frames. Miller's next start is projected to be in Baltimore.
Jun 13, 2023
Bounces back for fourth win
Miller (4-3) got the win against the Marlins on Monday, allowing an earned run on one hit and three walks over six innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The promising right-hander has been put through the ringer by the dangerous lineups of both the Yankees and Rangers in his last two starts, so Monday's stellar effort was a particularly welcome sight. Miller generated 12 swinging strikes overall across his 89 pitches, with his only hiccup coming in the form of a solo home run he surrendered to Nick Fortes in the fifth inning. Miller lowered his ERA and WHIP to 4.06 and 0.92, respectively, and his first opportunity to build on the rebound showing is slated to come against the White Sox this weekend.
Jun 10, 2023
Now starting Monday
Miller will make his next start against the Marlins on Monday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller was scheduled to face the Angels on Sunday, but the Mariners will now have the rookie right-hander face off against Miami at home with Logan Gilbert now starting in his place. Miller has been shelled in his last two starts, so it's not surprising to see Seattle give him an extra day of rest and also give Gilbert an added start made possible by having Thursday off.
Jun 4, 2023
Lit up Sunday
Miller (3-3) allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two over 2.1 innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Miller has now given up 15 runs over his last seven innings spanning two starts. The Rangers were able to pick him apart in the third inning, when he allowed a home run, three doubles and two singles before Gabe Speier worked out of trouble. It's tough to read too much into Miller's sudden struggles -- he's taken care of weaker opponents, but the Yankees and the Rangers are both top-10 offenses for run scoring. The right-hander is now at a 4.46 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB through 38.1 innings over seven starts. He's projected for a weekend road start versus the Angels in his next outing.
May 30, 2023
Takes second loss
Miller (3-2) took the loss Monday, allowing eight runs on 11 hits over 4.2 innings in a 10-4 loss to the Yankees. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
ANALYSIS
Miller had the worst start of his young career on Monday. The rookie had allowed just four runs over his first five starts combined before this meltdown against New York, and this was the first time he didn't finish the fifth inning. The right-hander's next chance to redeem himself is tentatively scheduled to be against Texas on the road next week.
May 25, 2023
Earns third win
Miller (3-1) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two hits and one walk over six scoreless innings against the Athletics. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Miller continued his stellar rookie season with six shutout innings, allowing just two singles. Miller has yet to surrender a home run in the majors and has a .123 batting average against. His ERA sits at a sparkling 1.15 after five starts. Miller has struck out 28 this season, but 16 of those have come in his two starts against Oakland. He has just 12 punch outs in 19.1 innings against other teams.
May 19, 2023
Delivers quality start
Miller (2-1) allowed three runs on four hits and a walk over 6.1 innings against Atlanta on Friday. He struck out four and was tagged with the loss.
ANALYSIS
After allowing a run in the first inning, Miller cruised through five scoreless frames. He gave up just one single during that span and retired nine straight batters on two occasions. The rookie righty left in the seventh with two runners on base and was charged with both as they came around to score. Miller had given up just one run through 19 frames before Friday's contest and he still owns a terrific 1.42 ERA. However, after 10 punchouts in his MLB debut, he's recorded just 12 strikeouts over his last three starts. Miller is currently expected to face the Athletics -- the same team he debuted against -- at home next week.
May 14, 2023
Seven scoreless in win
Miller (2-0) earned the win Saturday, tossing seven scoreless innings in which he allowed three hits during a 5-0 win over the Tigers. He struck out three and did not issue a walk.
ANALYSIS
Miller has been electric since making his MLB debut at the beginning of May, allowing just one run over 19 innings while posting a 18:1 K:BB. There's no reason to think he's headed back to the minors anytime soon, so he'll look to maintain his momentum during his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for a three-game weekend set in Atlanta.
May 7, 2023
Picks up first win
Miller (1-0) allowed two hits and a walk over six shutout frames Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over Houston.
ANALYSIS
Miller was dominant Sunday, giving up just a pair of singles and not letting any Astro reach scoring position. He retired the last 11 batters he faced while securing his first MLB win. Miller has looked right at home with the Mariners since making the jump from Dobule-A Arkansas, posting a 15:1 K:BB while allowing just one run through 12 innings. Assuming he sticks around, he's lined up for a start in Detroit next week.
May 5, 2023
Draws another start, as expected
Miller is listed as the Mariners' starting pitcher for Sunday's game against the Astros at T-Mobile Park.
ANALYSIS
Unsurprisingly, Miller will draw a second straight turn through the rotation after he delivered a gem in his MLB debut Tuesday, when he struck out 10 while allowing one run and only two baserunners across six innings while taking a no-decision against Oakland. The young right-hander will draw a more formidable opponent this weekend, but the promise he displayed in his debut outing should make Miller for a decent fantasy option. Miller should have a path to a full-time role in the rotation with Robbie Ray (elbow) having been shut down for the season after recently undergoing Tommy John surgery.
May 3, 2023
Excellent in debut
Miller allowed a run on two hits and struck out 10 without walking a batter over six innings, taking a no-decision Tuesday versus the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Miller didn't allow a baserunner in the first five innings, but a Tony Kemp single and Esteury Ruiz double led to a run in the sixth. While the A's are hardly an intimidating opponent, Miller still looked excellent with 57 of his 81 pitches going for strikes. The 24-year-old right-hander is expected to get an extended look in the Mariners' rotation with Robbie Ray (elbow) and Easton McGee (forearm) out, so Miller should be expected to face a much tougher opponent at home versus the Astros this weekend.
May 2, 2023
Contract selected for MLB debut
Seattle selected the contract of Miller from Double-A Arkansas on Tuesday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller will make his MLB debut as the starting pitcher for the Mariners on Tuesday against the Athletics in Oakland. The right-hander posted a 6.41 ERA with the Travelers prior to the promotion, but he pitched well in his last outing with five innings of one-run baseball, and he is widely considered the best pitching prospect in the Seattle system. Miller may need some adjustment time with the jump from Double-A to the majors, but he has the stuff to succeed, and has a soft landing against the woeful A's on Tuesday.
May 1, 2023
Will get multiple starts
Miller will join the Seattle rotation upon being promoted from Double-A Arkansas and is scheduled to make his first start Tuesday in Oakland, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With Robbie Ray (elbow) done for the season and Easton McGee going on the injured list with a forearm strain after one turn as the Mariners' No. 5 starter, Seattle will turn to the 24-year-old Miller to fill the opening in the rotation. The right-hander is considered the best pitching prospect in the Mariners system, and he's coming off a start for Arkansas in which he allowed just one hit and one run while striking out five over five innings. Because of his inexperience, Miller's performance may have some volatility, but there's plenty of reward that comes with the risk he carries.
May 1, 2023
Set to debut Tuesday
Miller will be called up from Double-A Arkansas to make his major-league debut Tuesday against the Athletics, Joe Doyle of FutureStarsSeries.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miller has struggled overall this season with Arkansas in posting a 6.41 ERA over his first four starts. His last outing was his best, though, as he allowed just one hit and one run while fanning five over five innings. Miller had a breakout 2022 campaign, which saw him hold a 3.16 ERA and 163:46 K:BB over 133.2 innings. It's unclear whether this will be just a spot start or if he could stick around a while, but there should theoretically be an opening with Robbie Ray (elbow) done for the season. He's worthy of an add in fantasy leagues with such a favorable first outing on tap.
