Strikes out two for 31st save
Estevez picked up the save in Saturday's 1-0 win over Minnesota, striking out two over one inning while not allowing any hits or walks. He also hit a batter with a pitch.
ANALYSIS
Estevez entered the game with a one-run lead in the ninth and hit Kyle Farmer with a pitch in the opening at-bat before getting the next two batters to go down swinging. The right-handed reliever was then able to retire Christian Vazquez on a fly out to secure his 31st save of the season, marking the first time in his last four appearances that he didn't allow any hits or walks. Estevez has now converted two of his last three save opportunities and has not given up a home run since Aug. 3.

Blows save, takes fifth loss
Estevez (5-5) blew the save and took the loss Thursday against the Rays. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out one over 0.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Estevez immediately ran into trouble allowing the first two batters (Harold Ramirez and Yandy Diaz) to reach via singles in the ninth inning. He was unable to stem the tide and eventually allowed the game-winning run to score via a Manuel Margot single. Before Thursday, Estevez had thrown four straight scoreless outings dating back to Sept. 5, his last blown save. He has 30 saves and four blown saves on the year.

Earns 30th save
Estevez struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Estevez became the 10th member of the 30-save club this season, and he's done it in just 33 save opportunities. Aside from a blown save Tuesday versus the Orioles, he's been sharp lately -- he's allowed two runs, five hits and a walk while striking out nine over his last eight innings. For the season, he has a 3.41 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 71:28 K:BB through 58 innings as the Angels' primary closer. All three of his blown saves have come since the start of August, but he's also converted seven saves in that span for a team that's faded in the second half.

Blows another save
Estevez blew the save Tuesday against Baltimore. He allowed two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one over one inning.
ANALYSIS
After starting the season 23-for-23 on save opportunities, Estevez has blown three of his last nine chances. While he still ranks in the top 10 in saves with 29, he's been rather unreliable as of late, owning a 9.00 ERA in 13 innings since the beginning of August. While his struggles haven't resulted in any lost opportunities, the Angels could look to give Jose Soriano or Aaron Loup some ninth-inning looks if Estevez doesn't round back into form.
Aug 31, 2023
Strikes out two for 29th save
Estevez picked up the save Wednesday against Philadelphia, striking out two over a perfect inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez got Alec Bohm to go down on strikes to open the bottom of the ninth before needing 17 pitches to retire Brandon Marsh in the following at-bat. The right-hander then made short work of Josh Rojas to close out the game and nail down his 29th save of the season. Estevez has now converted each of his last three save opportunities and has not issued a walk over his last eight appearances (spanning 8.2 innings). He's also recorded two strikeouts in five of his last seven outings.
Aug 27, 2023
Nabs 28th save
Estevez picked up a save against the Mets on Saturday with a perfect inning of work.
ANALYSIS
Estevez had no trouble protecting a two-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, retiring the side in order on 10 pitches (nine of which were strikes). The right-hander appears to be past a rough start to August during which he blew two saves and gave up nine runs over 2.1 innings across his first three appearances. Since that stretch, Estevez has gone 5-for-5 in save chances while holding his opponent scoreless in five of six outings and posting a 9:0 K:BB over 7.2 frames.
Aug 26, 2023
Notches 27th save
Estevez gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his 27th save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
After appearing to be in danger of losing his grip on the closer role in late July and early August as he walked eight batters in 6.1 innings over a six-appearance stretch while blowing two of three save chances, Estevez has regained his control and posted a 9:0 K:BB over his last six trips to the mound, converting his last four save opportunities. On the season, the former Rockie sports a 3.46 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 65:27 K:BB through 52 innings.
Aug 17, 2023
Shows poise in 26th save
Estevez earned a save against the Rangers on Wednesday, allowing two hits and striking out two batters over one scoreless inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez came on in the ninth frame to protect a two-run lead and quickly found himself in trouble when Mitch Garver and J.P. Martinez began the inning with back-to-back singles. However, Estevez bounced back to retire the next three batters and close the contest without further incident. After a three-outing stretch during which he allowed nine runs over 2.1 frames and blew two save chances, Estevez has bounced back to earn a save in each of his subsequent three opportunities, posting a 4:0 K:BB and tossing three scoreless innings over that stretch.
Aug 14, 2023
Puts away Astros Sunday
Estevez struck out two during a 1-2-3 ninth inning Sunday to slam the door on the Astros and pick up his 25th save of the year.
ANALYSIS
Estevez locked down his second save of the week and needed just 12 pitches to send the Astros down in order. He struck out Grae Kessinger and Yainer Diaz before getting Jose Altuve to fly out to end the game. The 30-year-old seems to be getting back on track after some of rough showings over the past few weeks. Estevez now holds a 3.42 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 58:27 K:BB in 47.1 innings.
Aug 10, 2023
Bounces back to earn 24th save
Estevez allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Estevez has had some gnarly outings lately, but he was fairly sharp Wednesday to pick up his first save since July 23. In the five outings between saves, he surrendered 14 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits and seven walks over 5.1 innings. For the season, he's 24-for-26 in save chances with a 3.50 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 56:27 K:BB through 46.1 innings.
Aug 8, 2023
Melts down again
Estevez (5-3) allowed five runs on three hits and two walks in one-third of an inning Monday versus the Giants, taking the loss and a blown save.
ANALYSIS
For the third time in five outings, Estevez allowed at least four runs. In that span, he's given up 15 runs (nine earned) across 5.1 innings while taking his first two blown saves of the season. The Angels' closer now has a 3.57 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 56:27 K:BB while converting 23 of 25 save chances through 45.1 innings. He's been playing with fire all year with a 5.4 BB/9, and it appears to be catching up to him now. For now, the Angels haven't indicated they'll remove Estevez from the closer role, but he'll need to put together some scoreless outings to restore confidence.
Aug 4, 2023
Implodes in blown save
Estevez (5-2) took the loss and blew a save against the Mariners on Thursday, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three batters over one inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez entered the contest a perfect 23-for-23 in save opportunities, but that fantastic run came to an end Thursday. The right-hander walked the first two batters he faced before a Dominic Canzone single loaded the bases. Estevez bounced back to strike out Teoscar Hernandez but then saw the game turn on its head when Cade Marlowe belted a grand slam on an 0-2 pitch. Estevez probably isn't yet in danger of losing his closing gig given his strong overall results this season, though he's struggled of late, allowing nine runs over four frames across his past three appearances.
Jul 31, 2023
Picks up fifth win
Estevez (5-1) earned the win in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays. He allowed an unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out two over two innings.
ANALYSIS
Working two full innings for the first time this season, Estevez allowed just the free runner to score in the 10th inning to lock down a 3-2 win. The 30-year-old Estevez now has wins in his last two appearances -- his ERA is down to 1.88 with a 1.33 WHIP and 53:22 K:BB across 43 innings this season while going a perfect 23-for-23 in save chances. The Angels have already brought Reynaldo Lopez in to help bolster their bullpen, and other additions are likely, though Estevez should maintain a firm grasp on the ninth-inning job.
Jul 23, 2023
Notches 23rd save
Estevez issued one walk in a scoreless inning against Pittsburgh on Sunday. He struck out one and earned a save.
ANALYSIS
Estevez worked around a two-out walk to finish off the 7-5 victory. He remains perfect in save chances, converting all 23 of them so far this season. The 30-year-old righty owns a 2.03 ERA and a 48:20 K:BB through 40 innings. Estevez has turned in three straight scoreless appearances after yielding two runs against Houston on July 16.
Jul 22, 2023
Secures save Friday
Estevez allowed a hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn his 22nd save of the season in Friday's 8-5 win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Estevez went nearly three weeks between saves -- his last came on July 2. The Angels went just 4-7 in the time between his saves, which explains his limited opportunities. While he's yet to blow a save chance this season, Estevez has allowed five runs over his last 11.2 innings with a 12:8 K:BB in that span. He's at a 2.08 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB through 39 innings overall.
Jul 2, 2023
Converts 21st save
Estevez allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Estevez allowed at least one baserunner in seven of his 10 outings in June, though he was able to convert all seven of his save chances in the month. He continues to work around traffic effectively -- he has a 1.85 ERA despite a 1.26 WHIP while racking up 42 strikeouts through 34 innings this season. He's converted 21 saves and added two holds while operating as the Angels' primary closer.
Jun 28, 2023
Narrowly avoids blow-up inning
Estevez picked up the save Tuesday against the White Sox. He allowed one run on four hits while striking out one over one inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez took the reigns with a 4-1 lead, but gave up a double to Eloy Jimenez on his first pitch, then handed out three consecutive singles to leave the bases loaded with no outs. However, Estevez managed to regain control of the inning, striking out Seby Zavala and then forcing Elvis Andrus to ground into a game-ending double play to secure the save. The save was his 20th of the year, good for the fourth most in baseball.
Jun 18, 2023
Logs perfect inning
Estevez picked up the save Sunday against the Royals. He struck out one over a clean inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez bounced back from a shaky appearance Thursday, where he walked three batters and gave up a run while failing to record an out against the Rangers. Sunday's save marked his 19th of the campaign -- the third most in MLB -- and increased his record to a perfect 19-for-19 on save opportunities.
Jun 16, 2023
Struggles in save opportunity
Estevez allowed one run on three walks Thursday against Texas. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Estevez got the call in the ninth inning with the Angels up by three runs, but he was unable to record an out. The right-hander worked the count full against each of the three batters he faced and ended up walking each of them before being given the hook. Overall, Estevez threw just eight of 20 pitches for a strike and was charged with one run, but Jacob Webb managed to contain the damage and notch a save. Estevez has been exceptional this season with a 1.80 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 39:16 K:BB and 18 saves in 18 chances, so Thursday's meltdown isn't likely to impact his job security.
Jun 14, 2023
Secures 18th save Tuesday
Estevez tossed a perfect two-thirds of an inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 7-3 victory over the Rangers. He struck out one.
ANALYSIS
Estevez came in to get the final two outs, inheriting runners on first and second before striking out Josh Jung to end the game. The 30-year-old veteran is a perfect 18-for-18 in save opportunities this season which ties him for second in MLB, and has allowed just two earned runs over his last 11 appearances. Estevez owns a sparkling 1.50 ERA on the year to go with 39 strikeouts in 30 innings.
Jun 10, 2023
Surrenders run in save
Estevez allowed a run on one hit and one walk while striking out one to earn the save in Friday's 5-4 win over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Estevez gave up a solo home run to Mike Ford but was able to prevent any other damage. This was the second run Estevez has allowed over his last 5.1 innings, but he has a save in each of the five appearances in that span. For the season, he's 17-for-17 in save chances with a 1.59 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:12 K:BB over 28.1 innings.
Jun 9, 2023
Records 16th save
Estevez picked up the save in Thursday's 3-1 victory over the Cubs. He struck out one over a perfect inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez is now tied for third in the league in saves. The right-hander also hasn't blown a save this year, and he's the only relief pitcher to not blow a save with at least 16 opportunities. The veteran has established himself as a reliable option, posting a 1.32 ERA thus far.
Jun 7, 2023
Collects 15th save
Estevez allowed two hits and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Estevez worked around some traffic on the basepaths to pick up his 15th save in as many chances this year. He's now tied for second in the majors in saves after essentially being a question mark for the closer role entering the year. The 30-year-old has an excellent 1.37 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP and 34:11 K:BB through 26.1 innings, strong work that's allowed him to solidify his place in the Angels' bullpen hierarchy. Estevez has been scored on just twice in 13 appearances since the start of May.
Jun 5, 2023
Nabs 14th save
Estevez earned a save over the Astros on Sunday, walking one batter in a scoreless inning.
ANALYSIS
The game was tight throughout, and Estevez was asked to protect a one-run ninth-inning lead. He did so on just 11 pitches despite issuing a one-out walk. After a shaky spring training, Estevez has established a stranglehold on the Angels' closer role by converting all 14 of his save chances so far. He's posted a 1.42 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 32:11 K:BB over 25.1 innings.
May 29, 2023
Yields homer in save
Estevez allowed a solo homer in one inning of work while earning a save over the White Sox on Monday. He issued one walk and did not record a strikeout.
ANALYSIS
Estevez was taken deep by Eloy Jimenez in the ninth inning but still finished off the 6-4 victory. Estevez has allowed two runs over his last 17 innings, both coming on solo home runs. He's now converted all 13 of his save chances while posting a 1.50 ERA and 32:10 K:BB through 24 appearances.
May 21, 2023
Locks down save
Estevez allowed one hit and struck out one batter in a scoreless inning while earning a save against the Twins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Estevez worked around a one-out single to finish off the 4-2 victory. He lowered his ERA to 1.23 and has now converted all 12 of his save chances this season. The 30-year-old righty has yielded just one run in his last 15 innings.
May 20, 2023
Registers 11th save
Estevez picked up the save in Friday's 5-4 victory over the Twins. He struck out two over a perfect inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez is now tied for second in the big leagues in saves. The right-hander is having a banner year, as he's already tied his career-high mark in saves. The former Rockie also sports a 1.29 ERA, which would be his personal-best by far if he were to stay around that level throughout the entire campaign. The 30-year-old's lowest ERA over a full season is 3.47, which he registered last year.
May 19, 2023
Notches 10th save
Estevez earned a save against the Orioles on Thursday, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out two batters over one inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez didn't have his breeziest outing Thursday, but he benefitted from Adam Frazier getting thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double and fanned Ryan Mountcastle for the final out with a pair of Orioles on base. With that, Estevez remained perfect with a 10-for-10 mark on save opportunities this season, and he has given up a run in only three of 20 outings on the campaign. The right-hander is one of only two pitchers (along with Alexis Diaz) to have racked up double-digit saves without blowing any chances so far this season.
May 12, 2023
Escapes with save
Estevez struck out one batter in a scoreless inning to earn a save over Cleveland on Friday. He allowed two hits and a walk.
ANALYSIS
Estevez was cruising through one of his usual easy innings before putting three straight Guardians on base with two outs. He extinguished the fire by punching out Will Brennan and finishing the 5-4 win. Estevez lowered his ERA to 0.96 with a 24:7 K:BB and nine saves.
May 9, 2023
Tallies eighth save
Estevez earned a save over the Astros on Monday with a perfect inning that included one strikeout.
ANALYSIS
Estevez inherited a two-run lead when he took the mound in the ninth, and he retired the side in order on 14 pitches. The right-hander extended his stretch of outings without allowing a run to 10, and he's earned six saves while posting a 14:2 K:BB and yielding just two hits over 10.2 frames over that span. Estevez had a rough spring training and was sharing save opportunities with Jose Quijada (elbow) early in the campaign, but he's firmly cemented his hold on the closer role with the dominant stretch.
May 6, 2023
Nabs win Friday
Estevez (1-1) earned the extra-inning win Friday, allowing one walk and striking out two over one inning versus the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Estevez did his job in the top of the 10th inning, and the Angels' offense rewarded him with a walkoff win. This was his ninth consecutive scoreless appearance, a span in which he has a 13:2 K:BB with only two hits allowed in 9.2 innings. He's at a 1.08 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 22:7 K:BB, seven saves and two holds through 16.2 innings. Those strong numbers have helped the right-hander earn at least a primary share of save chances, and he should have a little more stability in the role with Jose Quijada (elbow) set for Tommy John surgery.
May 4, 2023
Picks up seventh save of season
Estevez picked up the save Wednesday against the Cardinals. He struck out two over a perfect inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez is now tied for fourth in MLB in saves. The right-hander also hasn't allowed a run over his last eight outings, and sports a 0.96 WHIP. The former Rockie is easily one of the better closers in the league at this point.
Apr 30, 2023
Two strikeouts in sixth save
Estevez picked up the save during Sunday's 3-0 win over the Brewers, tossing a perfect ninth inning while striking out two.
ANALYSIS
Estevez entered with a a three-run lead and retired Williams Contreras, Brian Anderson and Rowdy Tellez in order, including back-to-back strikeouts to start the frame. The right-hander is a perfect 6-for-6 in save opportunities and is currently the Angels' top closer with Jose Quijada (elbow) and Ryan Tepera (shoulder) on the injured list.
Apr 28, 2023
Nabs another save
Estevez earned a save over the Athletics on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out two batters over a scoreless inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez gave up a two-out single but managed to preserve Los Angeles' one-run, ninth-inning lead to notch his fifth save of the campaign. Three of those have come in the past five days as the right-hander appears to have taken control of the closer role for the Angels. Jose Quijada appeared to have at least an even split of those duties by racking up four saves and a 0.00 ERA through April 21, but he's fallen off in his past two appearances, allowing seven runs (six earned) across one inning.
Apr 26, 2023
Records five out save
Estevez picked up his fourth save of the season Tuesday against the Athletics. He struck out a batter and did not give up a hit over 1.2 innings of work.
ANALYSIS
Tuesday was Estevez's first outing of more than an inning. He needed just 17 pitches to navigate through five batters and secure the save. The 30-year-old has bounced back thus far after a rough showing during spring training and has a 1.54 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 12:6 K:BB over 11.2 innings. He appears to be atop the pecking order for saves in front of Jose Quijada, who recently just was lit up against the Royals on Saturday.
Apr 24, 2023
Makes quick work of Royals
Estevez picked up the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Royals. He didn't allow any hits, runs or walks over one inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez picked up his third save of the season Sunday, retiring all three of the batters he faced in just six total pitches. He has allowed just one hit and no runs in his last three appearances combined.
Apr 17, 2023
Earns second save
Estevez earned the save Monday against the Red Sox, allowing one run on two hits while recording two strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
Estevez entered in the ninth inning and shut the door in a nail-biting finale to the series. The 30-year-old struck out Jarren Duran before giving up a run on a Rafael Devers RBI single; however, Estevez remained resilient and proceeded to strike out Rob Refsnyder before getting Masataka Yoshida to pop out to end the game. Estevez secured his second save of the season and owns a 2.57 ERA with nine strikeouts through seven innings this season.
Apr 12, 2023
Notches first save
Estevez earned the save Tuesday against the Nationals after he fired a scoreless ninth inning, allowing no hits and one walk with no strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander issued a one-out walk but was otherwise able to close out the save with minimal fanfare. Estevez and Jose Quijada now each have one save apiece for the Angels, with Jimmy Herget also in the mix for the closer role. Tucker Davidson also has a save this season, but he pitched four frames in that outing and should continue to serve as a long reliever.
Apr 5, 2023
Didn't close due to recent workload
Estevez wasn't used to close out the Angels' 4-3 win over the Mariners on Wednesday because manager Phil Nevin wanted to give him another day of rest after the reliever pitched Sunday and Monday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Nevin instead opted for Jose Quijada, who pitched around a single to record the team's first save of the season. Even though he wasn't the one to get the save, this news should be heartening for those rostering Estevez, as it would appear he could be at the top of the Angels' bullpen pecking order. It remains a messy situation, but fantasy managers with Estevez should be hanging on to him.
Apr 3, 2023
Fans side in first 2023 outing
Estevez tossed a scoreless inning against Oakland on Sunday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three batters.
ANALYSIS
Estevez opened spring training as the possible favorite for closing opportunities this season, but he struggled mightily in Cactus League play to throw that scenario into question. The right-hander made his regular-season Angels debut Sunday, taking over in the ninth inning with Los Angeles staked to a 6-0 lead. There was both good and bad in Estevez's appearance -- he allowed back-to-back two-out baserunners but kept Oakland off the scoreboard and recorded all three outs via strikeout. It remains to be seen how manager Phil Nevin will eventually manage save situations, but Estevez should at least be among the top options to close when opportunities arise.
Mar 25, 2023
Closer role not guaranteed
Angels manager Phil Nevin said Saturday that the first opportunity to close a game this season will depend on "what the game dictates," Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Estevez appeared to be the frontrunner for closing duties early in camp, but Nevin has yet to commit to any reliever for that role. Estevez has struggled statistically this spring, though he struck out the side in a scoreless inning during his last appearance and has attributed his troubles in Cactus League play to experimenting with pitch usage. Nevin did say that Estevez "is definitely going to get some big outs late in the game most of the year," so the veteran reliever's poor numbers this spring don't seem to have shaken his manager's confidence. However, Nevin elected for a closer committee after the Angels traded Raisel Iglesias last season, thus it's not certain that he'll name a full-time closer at any point in 2023.
Mar 18, 2023
Not concerned over rough spring
Estevez and the Angels aren't concerned over his poor numbers this spring, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
He has walked 10 batters in 3.2 innings and has a 19.64 ERA, but the veteran righty has been experimenting with new pitches and strategies at the expense of clean innings in exhibition play. Estevez has been working more up in the zone, because the numbers say he is harder to hit up there and he's been working on a new changeup grip while attempting to throw a harder slider. Pitching coach Matt Wise said Estevez is trending in the right direction and manager Phil Nevin said he expects Estevez to get more consistent as the start of the season nears.
Mar 6, 2023
Struggling this spring
Estevez has pitched 1.2 innings over three appearances in Cactus League play thus far, allowing five runs on one hit and seven walks while striking out one batter.
ANALYSIS
Estevez has never been a pitcher with pinpoint control, but his wildness has been particularly off-putting this spring given general manager Perry Minasian's optimism early in camp that the right-hander could win the Angels' closer job. That scenario certainly isn't off the table, but Estevez may need to put his early struggles behind him in order to earn the team's confidence. Los Angeles has other options, including Jimmy Herget and Ryan Tepera, to deploy in the ninth inning of meaningful games, so Estevez is among the shakiest options for fantasy managers to target when chasing saves in their drafts.
Feb 22, 2023
Tabbed as favorite to close by GM
Angels general manager Perry Minasian recently expressed optimism that Estevez will earn the team's closer role this season, though he made it clear that the decision will be made by manager Phil Nevin, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Estevez signed a two-year contract with the Angels in December after spending the first six seasons of his career with Colorado. The right-hander has racked up 25 saves in his career, with 11 coming in his rookie campaign and another 11 in 2021. Estevez doesn't have huge strikeout numbers -- he fanned less than a batter per inning in each of his past two seasons -- but he posted career-best marks with a 3.47 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 57 frames in 2022. Jimmy Herget was impressive as part of a closer committee for Los Angeles last season after Raisel Iglesias was traded in early August, and Ryan Tepera should also be in the mix for save chances. Given Minasian's comments, Estevez may have a leg up in the closer competition, but he's far from guaranteed to be handed that role and should be among the final closers to be selected in fantasy drafts.
Dec 5, 2022
Signs with Angels
Estevez agreed to a free-agent deal with the Angels on Monday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The hard-throwing righty logged a 3.47 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 57 innings for the Rockies in 2022. Estevez struck out less than a batter an inning and isn't a master of control, as he walked 23. Despite tallying just 13 saves between the last two seasons, he could be a top candidate to close games for Los Angeles.
Sep 29, 2022
Shifts to 15-day injured list
Estevez (illness) was transferred to the 15-day injured list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Estevez landed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday, but he doesn't actually have coronavirus, per Sonja Chen of MLB.com. Still, the illness has affected him to the point that the Rockies decided to shut him down for the year. He'll end the season having recorded a career-best 3.47 ERA in 57 innings.
Sep 27, 2022
Placed on COVID list
Estevez was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Estevez has been having a solid year, posting a career-best 3.47 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 57 innings out of the bullpen. There is no minimum or maximum time that players must spend on the COVID list, but in the meantime Tyler Blach has been recalled to replace Estevez in the bullpen.
Aug 28, 2022
Records eighth hold
Estevez through a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out two Sunday against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Estevez entered the eighth inning with the Rockies up 1-0 and got Tyler Naquin to fly out to start the inning but surrendered a single to Brett Baty and allowed him to advance to second on a wild pitch. The righty worked out of the trouble by striking out the next two batters to secure his eighth hold of the season. He now owns a 3.66 ERA through 46.2 innings this season.
Jul 16, 2022
Back from paternity leave
Estevez was activated off the paternity list Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Players may spend between one and three days on the paternity list. Estevez wound up spending the minimum amount, having only just left the team Friday. Chad Smith was optioned to clear space for his return.

Moves to paternity list
Estevez was placed on the paternity list Friday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Estevez picked up his first save of the season with a scoreless inning Thursday against the Padres, and he'll now step away from the team in order to spend some time with his growing family. The 29-year-old should rejoin the Rockies before the start of the second half of the season next Friday.

Earns first save
Estevez didn't allow a baserunner while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Thursday against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Daniel Bard pitched in three of Colorado's last four games entering Thursday, which allowed Estevez to earn his first save of the campaign. Estevez is not likely to see many additional save chances this season -- barring Bard being traded -- as he has a 4.45 ERA and 26:15 K:BB across 30.1 frames.

Hit hard, takes loss
Estevez (1-1) allowed three earned runs on three hits and one strikeout to take the loss Friday against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Estevez entered the game in the eighth inning with the game tied at one, but he served up two home runs in the span of four batters to take the loss. He has held opponents scoreless in seven of 10 appearances this season to go along with two holds. Estevez does have a bloated ERA with a current mark of 5.87, though that is heavily influenced by his blowup Friday.

Earns one-out win
Estevez (1-0) was credited with the win Saturday against the Dodgers after retiring the only batter he faced.
ANALYSIS
Estevez entered the game in the eighth inning to replace Alex Colome and was credited with the win after retiring Max Muncy with a flyout to center.

Agrees to one-year deal
Estevenz and the Rockies avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.025 million deal, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Estevez matched his career high with 11 saves last season while posting a 4.38 ERA, the second-best mark of his five-year career. He may not return to the closer role he held down the stretch, however, as the Rockies recently signed veteran righty Alex Colome, who's saved 155 games in his career.

Gives up walkoff homer
Estevez (3-5) was tagged with the loss in relief Sunday against the Diamondbacks after giving up the decisive run while tossing two-thirds of an inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez quickly retired Ketel Marte and Josh Rojas through flyouts, but he gave up the game-sealing homer to Josh VanMeter, who went deep for the sixth time this year. It was an unfortunate end of the year for Estevez, who went 11-for-17 in save chances while posting a 4.28 ERA with a 1.49 WHIP through 61 innings (63 appearances) this season.

Secures save Friday
Estevez earned the save against Arizona on Friday with a perfect inning during which he struck out two batters.
ANALYSIS
After the Rockies rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth, they turned to Estevez to close out the high-scoring affair. He did so with ease, retiring all three batters he faced, including the final two via strikeout. The save was Estevez's 11th in 17 opportunities. Since getting blown up for four runs against San Francisco on Sept. 8, the right-hander has converted six of seven save chances while posting a 2.70 ERA across 10 appearances.

Grabs 10th save
Estevez picked up a save after pitching a scoreless ninth inning in Tuesday's 3-1 victory over the Nationals. He didn't allow any hits and walked one.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old walked Yadiel Hernandez to open the inning but retired the next two batters including a game-ending double play by Luis Garcia to escape unscathed. He is now 10 of 16 in save opportunities this season. Estevez has been far from elite though, allowing at least one baserunner in 21 of his last 22 outings.

Locks down ninth save
Estevez allowed two hits and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 9-8 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Estevez was able to make a one-run lead stand in the ninth inning despite putting runners on the corners with two outs. The right-hander is now 7-for-8 in save chances since he took over as Colorado's primary closer in late August, although he's yielded six runs on 14 hits and four walks in 10.2 innings since Aug. 27. For the year, he has nine saves, a 4.34 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 57:20 K:BB in 56 innings.

Picks up win
Estevez (3-4) allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one over an inning of work, picking up the win in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Estevez got the first two outs of the ninth inning before Ozzie Albies and Jorge Soler both reached base. With the winning run in scoring position and Freddie Freeman at the dish, the right-hander got the Atlanta first baseman to fly out on one pitch. Though he has now allowed a hit in six straight appearances, Estevez has gotten a ton of high leverage work for the Rockies in September.

Secures save No. No 8
Estevez allowed a hit and a walk but also struck out a batter during a scoreless ninth as he got the save over Atlanta on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Estevez worked around a walk and a hit to close out the game for his eighth save of the year. The 28-year-old has converted four of five save chances already in September and has pitched very well aside from his blowup against the Giants last week. Overall, Estevez has a 4.50 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 55:19 K:BB over 54 innings this year.

Converts seventh save
Estevez allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Sunday's 5-4 win over Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
For the first time in four appearances, Estevez was able to keep runs off the board. He's still gone 3-for-4 in save chances in that span despite the somewhat unsteady performance. The right-hander owns a 4.58 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 54:18 K:BB across 53 innings this season while notching seven saves, five blown saves and 15 holds in 55 appearances.

Picks up save No. 6
Estevez allowed a run on two hits in the ninth inning of Thursday's game against the Phillies, but he escaped with the save. He struck out one batter.
ANALYSIS
Estevez was close to giving the game back after the Rockies took the lead against Phillies closer Ian Kennedy the prior half inning. He ultimately pitched out of a second-and-third, one-out situation with the lead still intact. Estevez has now given up at least one run in each of his last three appearances, but with only one blown save in that span, he's been getting the job done more often than not since Daniel Bard was removed from the closer picture.

Melts down in ninth inning
Estevez (2-4) took the loss Wednesday versus San Francisco after allowing four runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez allowed five of the seven batters he faced to reach base, and San Francisco scored on a two-run single by LaMonte Wade and a two-run double by Evan Longoria. It's a rare misstep for Estevez, who had converted three saves in five outings since taking over as the full-time closer. He now has a 4.59 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 53:18 K:BB across 51 innings while adding five saves, five blown saves and 15 holds in 53 outings. Colorado's closer situation remains somewhat fluid, but one poor outing isn't likely to cost Estevez just yet.

Earns fifth save
Estevez allowed one run on a hit and no walks while striking out one in one inning to earn the save in Saturday's win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Saturday's outing marked the first time Estevez gave up a run since July 28, but he still preserved the lead to pick up his third save in his last five outings. The right-hander has taken on ninth-inning duties recently since Daniel Bard had struggled, and he's performed well in high-leverage situations.

Secures save Friday
Estevez earned the save against Atlanta with a perfect ninth inning Friday.
ANALYSIS
Estevez made very quick work of the three batters he faced, needing only four pitches to retire the side in order. He hasn't allowed an earned run in 14 straight outings dating back to July 31, registering six holds and two saves over that span. Given Daniel Bard's recent struggles, Estevez could be given all or most of the team's save opportunities for the remainder of the campaign.

Closing opportunity emerges
Estevez appears to have taken over as Colorado's closer after Daniel Bard was removed from the role, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Estevez picked up his third save of the season Friday while Bard pitched the eighth inning, and manager Bud Black confirmed after the contest that Bard was no longer the closer. Estevez wasn't officially named the replacement, but he's the logical candidate given he secured the save Friday and hasn't allowed a run in his past 11 appearances. He has a 4.08 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 47:16 K:BB over 46.1 innings for the season but has pitched better since the All-Star break.

Notches third save
Estevez earned the save against the Dodgers on Friday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning during which he gave up one hit and struck out three batters.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander entered the contest with two saves on the campaign, but his last save conversion had come way back on May 24 against the Mets. Estevez allowed a leadoff single to Mookie Betts on Friday but proceeded to strike out the next three batters to slam the door on Los Angeles. Daniel Bard, who has been the Rockies' closer for most of the campaign but has struggled of late, pitched the eighth inning, suggesting that he may have lost hold of the team's ninth-inning role. If that is the case, Estevez figures to be first in line for save chances as he now has three of Colorado's non-Bard saves this season.

Tagged with second straight loss
Estevez (2-3) suffered the loss Wednesday against the Angels after allowing a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one over an inning.
ANALYSIS
Estevez entered to begin the bottom half of eighth trying to preserve a 7-7 tie but was unable to do so. He allowed men to reach first and second before surrendering an RBI single to Phil Gosselin to put the Angels in front. That run would prove to be the difference, handing Estevez his second loss in four days. The 28-year-old owns a 5.35 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 35:12 K:BB over 35.1 innings this season.
