Undergoes thumb surgery
Hamilton underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
ANALYSIS

Sent back to Worcester
The Red Sox optioned Hamilton to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
With Wilyer Abreu returning from the paternity list, Hamilton will end up being Boston's roster casualty. The 25-year-old infielder is just 4-for-33 across 15 games in the majors this season.

Brought up by Boston
Hamilton was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox deactivated infielder Pablo Reyes (elbow) and outfielder Wilyer Abreu (paternity list) Monday, so Hamilton was brought up to help fill the void. He'll provide depth in the middle infield while Reyes is on the shelf, but Hamilton may not get the chance to play as frequently as he did in June and July, when he picked up 10 starts at shortstop and hit .138 with two stolen bases over 34 plate appearances in total. While he's with the Red Sox, Hamilton could at least represent a useful option off of the bench thanks to his speed.

Optioned to Triple-A
The Red Sox Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald Hamilton to Triple-A Worcester on Friday, source reports.
ANALYSIS
With Yu Chang (wrist) returning from the 60-day injured list Friday, Hamilton will serve as the Red Sox's roster casualty in order to free up a spot in Boston's crowded infield. Hamilton slashed just .138/.265/.207 over 13 games during his stint in the majors, though he could return later this season if he puts up numbers consistent with his .838 OPS in Triple-A.

Days numbered
Hamilton is expected to be sent down to Triple-A Worcester when the Red Sox activate Yu Chang (wrist) from the injured list Thursday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox are getting healthy at middle infield with Chang coming off the IL followed by Pablo Reyes (abdominal) in the coming days as well. Hamilton has filled in the last two weeks, but his time in the majors should end Thursday.

Sitting versus lefty
Hamilton isn't in the Red Sox's lineup Saturday against Toronto, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Yusei Kikuchi is set to start on the mound Saturday for the Jays, so the lefty-hitting Hamilton will begin the game on the bench. Enrique Hernandez will take over at shortstop and bat seventh.

Not in Sunday's lineup
Hamilton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton started the past three games after being promoted Wednesday and has gone 1-for-9 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs. Enrique Hernandez will take over at shortstop Sunday.

Swipes bag in win
Hamilton went 0-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 3-1 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton has already racked up two steals in three games at the major-league level after logging 27 thefts in 52 contests for Triple-A Worcester. The shortstop has gone 1-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored. He has a chance to carve out a strong-side platoon role while Pablo Reyes (abdomen) is on the injured list for the next 10 days at a minimum.

Logs first MLB hit
Hamilton went 1-for-3 in Thursday's 6-0 loss to Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton made his first MLB start and logged his first career hit in the eighth inning. Pablo Reyes, who had been dealing with abdominal soreness, started at second base but was removed in the fourth inning, suggesting the soreness returned. If Reyes needs time on the injured list, Hamilton and all his speed could remain up with the Red Sox and get additional starts at shortstop.

Gets first MLB start
Hamilton is starting at shortstop and hitting eighth Thursday against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton is one of the fastest prospects in the game, and he stole a base and scored a run as a pinch runner Wednesday after getting called up from Triple-A Worcester. The 25-year-old lefty hitter posted a .255/.339/.486 slash line with 11 home runs and 27 steals in 52 games at Triple-A. He will be sharing middle-infield work with Enrique Hernandez, Christian Arroyo and Pablo Reyes in the short term.

Steals base in debut
Hamilton served as pinch runner, stole a base and scored a run in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton was called up from Triple-A Worcester after Pablo Reyes (abdomen) sustained an injury. Hamilton could get some starts at short, given the shaky defense of Enrique Hernandez, who started Wednesday. If so, Hamilton will provide a boost on the base paths. The 25-year-old stole 71 bases in 2022 at Double-A Portland and registered 27 over 52 games for the WooSox this season.

Called up from Worcester
Boston recalled Hamilton from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old can provide infield depth as Pablo Reyes works through some abdominal discomfort and he would take on considerable fantasy appeal if Reyes requires a trip to the 10-day injured list. Hamilton was sporting an .825 OPS with 11 home runs and 27 stolen bases through 52 games this season at the Triple-A level after tallying 70 steals in 119 games last season at Double-A. He'll be making his MLB debut when he first appears in a game for the Red Sox.

Could join Boston on Wednesday
Hamilton will join the Red Sox in Minnesota on Wednesday, and he could be added to the active roster if Pablo Reyes (abdomen) has to be placed on the 10-day injured list, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton would be making his MLB debut if he is added to the 26-man group. The infielder has some of the best speed in the minors, and he's stolen 27 bases over 208 at-bats for Triple-A Worcester while registering an .825 OPS in the timeframe. The question would be how much Hamilton would play if he does replace Reyes on the roster, but his ability to swipe bags makes him an intriguing player to monitor at the very least.

Activated off IL
Hamilton (thumb) was activated off the injured list and started at DH for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton had a pair of hits and walks during the WooSox's 13-5 win over Norfolk. He was also caught stealing for the sixth time in 32 tries this season.
Jun 4, 2023
Out with thumb sprain
Hamilton was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, retroactive to June 2, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton will be sidelined for at least the next week, but the Red Sox don't expect him to face a lengthy absence. The 25-year-old is performing well in his first taste of the Triple-A level this year with a .267/.344/.524 slash line in 47 games.
Mar 13, 2023
Bound for Triple-A
Boston optioned Hamilton to Triple-A Worcester on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old Hamilton may not be polished enough as a hitter to profile as a realistic everyday player for Boston down the road, but his elite speed was enough to earn a spot on the Red Sox's 40-man roster this offseason. After impressing in a small sample of action in the Grapefruit League -- Hamilton got on base at a .370 clip and went 5-for-5 on stolen-base attempts over his first 13 games -- he'll now get the chance to hone his skills with Boston's top minor-league affiliate to begin the 2023 season.
