Not in lineup for Game 2
Julien is out of the lineup for Game 2 of the ALDS against the Astros on Sunday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Twins are facing their first left-handed starter of the playoffs in Framber Valdez, and Julien will head to the bench as a result. The rookie infielder is 2-for-10 with a double, two walks and a run through three postseason games.
Oct 1, 2023
Productive against Rockies
Julien went 3-for-5 with one double, a two-run home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Saturday's victory over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Julien fell one triple shy of the cycle Saturday, notching a single in the first inning, a double in the sixth and belting a two-run homer in the seventh. He's now up to 16 homers on the year -- two in his last three games -- while slashing .263/.381/.461 across 108 contests.
Sep 29, 2023
Gets breather Friday
Julien is not in the lineup Friday against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
This looks to be a planned day of rest for Julien, who boasts an .825 OPS with 15 homers and three steals through his first 107 major-league games. Christian Vazquez will serve as the Twins' designated hitter Friday at Colorado. Donovan Solano is batting leadoff.
Sep 28, 2023
Belts 15th homer
Julien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the A's in Wednesday's 6-4 victory.
ANALYSIS
Julien began the Twins' half of the first inning with a bang, smacking a solo shot to right field. The long ball snapped an 0-for-11 stretch over his past four games and was his first extra-base hit since Sept. 17. Though he's somewhat faded down the stretch, Julien has still produced a solid .262/.380/.452 slash line with 15 homers, 33 RBI, 58 runs and three stolen bases through 393 plate appearances in his first season in the majors.
Sep 15, 2023
Goes deep in victory
Julien went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Thursday in a 10-2 victory versus the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Julien and Royce Lewis provided the Twins with some rookie power in the fourth frame, with each of the young stars producing a solo shot in that inning. Like Lewis, Julien is up to 13 homers on the campaign, and he's gone deep twice in his past three contests. Overall, Julien is slashing a solid .270/.382/.460 with 27 RBI, 51 runs and three thefts across 347 appearances in what has been a strong first big-league season.
Sep 9, 2023
Sits against southpaw
Julien will hit the bench Saturday against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Julien has only started five games against a southpaw all season, so it's no surprise to see him on the bench here against David Peterson. While he's crushed righties to the tune of an .885 OPS, his .452 OPS in a tiny sample of 42 plate appearances against lefties means he's unlikely to advance beyond a platoon role any time soon. Kyle Farmer enters the lineup in his absence, starting at third base while Royce Lewis rests his legs in Julien's usual designated hitter spot.
Sep 5, 2023
Scores three times in blowout
Julien went 0-for-3 with three walks and three runs in Monday's 20-6 win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Though he was one of only two Twins starters who failed to record a hit in the blowout victory, Julien still got the job done atop the order thanks to his patient eye at the plate. Since returning to the lineup Aug. 16 following a brief absence due to a hamstring injury, Julien is getting on base at a .377 clip and is batting .275, despite striking out at a 36.1 percent clip.
Sep 2, 2023
Idle vs. lefty
Julien is not in Saturday's lineup against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Julien's last start against a lefty came Aug. 20, and he'll begin this contest on the bench with southpaw Jordan Montgomery on the hill for Texas. Kyle Farmer draws the start at the keystone, batting sixth.
Aug 27, 2023
Sits versus southpaw
Julien is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Julien will bow out of the starting nine along with fellow left-handed hitter Max Kepler while the Rangers bring southpaw Jordan Montgomery to the hill. Kyle Farmer will pick up a start in the Minnesota infield and will bat seventh while Julien retreats to the bench.
Aug 25, 2023
Belts three-run shot
Julien went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in Friday's win over Texas.
ANALYSIS
Julien drilled a three-run shot during Minnesota's six-run seventh frame but also struck out four times. It was his 11th homer of the year and first since July 26. Over his previous 22 games since that last home run, Julien posted a .621 OPS with just four RBI. The rookie infielder is now slashing .285/.378/.479 with 24 extra-base hits and 41 runs scored through 78 games.
Aug 24, 2023
Sitting against southpaw
Julien isn't in the Twins' lineup for Thursday's game against Texas, John Shipley of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Southpaw Andrew Heaney will start on the mound for the Rangers, meaning the left-handed bat of Julien will stay put in the Twins' dugout to begin the game. Kyle Farmer will take over at second base and bat seventh.
Aug 22, 2023
Not starting versus lefty
Julien is not the the lineup Tuesday versus the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Julien will take a seat on the bench Tuesday with lefty Wade Miley pitching for the Brewers. Jorge Polanco will shift over to second base with Kyle Farmer entering the lineup at third base and batting sixth.
Aug 16, 2023
Back in action Wednesday
Julien (hamstring) will start at second base and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Julien sat out Tuesday's 5-3 win due to the hamstring injury, but the day off was apparently all he needed to move past the issue. He'll settle back in as the Twins' table setter in the series finale after previously batting ninth in his most recent start Sunday against the Phillies.
Aug 15, 2023
Dealing with hamstring injury
Julien is not in Tuesday's lineup due to a hamstring issue, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Julien is mired in a 1-for-16 slump, so manager Rocco Baldelli may just be looking to provide an extra day of rest as well. Jorge Polanco will shift to the keystone while Royce Lewis starts at third base.
Aug 15, 2023
On bench Tuesday
Julien is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
The rookie infielder often finds himself on the bench against left-handed pitchers, but he'll sit Tuesday despite the fact righty Alex Faedo is taking the mound for Detroit. Julien is mired in a 1-for-16 slump, so manager Rocco Baldelli may just be looking to provide an extra day of rest. Jorge Polanco will shift to the keystone while Royce Lewis starts at third base.
Aug 8, 2023
On bench again versus lefty
Julien is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Detroit.
ANALYSIS
The Tigers are starting a lefty for the second day in a row, so Julien will again begin this one on the bench. Jorge Polanco will occupy second base, with Kyle Farmer covering third.
Aug 7, 2023
Moves to bench versus lefty
Julien is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Julien will hit the bench for the series opener while the Tigers bring southpaw Joey Wentz to the hill. Kyle Farmer will fill in for Julien at the keystone.
Aug 6, 2023
Draws three walks
Julien went 1-for-1 with three walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Julien batted out of the leadoff spot for a second straight game and looked very comfortable. In those two games, he went 4-for-6 with three walks and just one strikeout. Julien has been a welcomed addition to the Twins' lineup after he was up and down with the big club earlier in the season. Since being called back up June 10, the 24-year-old is slashing .330/.433/.540 with six homers, 10 RBI, 26 runs and a 22:46 BB:K over 161 plate appearances.
Jul 30, 2023
Heads to bench versus lefty
Julien is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
The rookie will join fellow left-handed hitters Joey Gallo and Max Kepler on the bench for the series finale while the Royals bring southpaw Ryan Yarbrough to the hill. Jorge Polanco will check in for Julien at second base after making both of his first two starts at third base upon his return from the injured list Friday.
Jul 21, 2023
Could stick at keystone
Julien, who is starting at second base and hitting second Friday against the White Sox, got a vote of confidence with the news that Jorge Polanco (hamstring) will get reps at third base during his rehab assignment, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Given that Julien is arguably the game's hottest hitter, with a .593 average and three home runs in his last eight games, the Twins probably would have found a spot for him even if Jorge Polanco didn't add third base to his repertoire, but this news is a nice sign that the Twins may have found their second baseman of the present and future in Julien. While he generally hits second against righties, Julien hasn't started against a lefty since June 19.
Jul 20, 2023
Reaches base four times again
Julien went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Julien has gotten on base 10 times in his last 14 plate appearances, going 8-for-11 with two homers and three walks in that span as he continues to torment Seattle's pitching. The second baseman's blast was his ninth homer in 48 contests this season and his fifth long ball in July. With six multi-hit efforts in his last seven games, Julien is up to a .318/.394/.574 slash line overall.
Jul 19, 2023
Stays red-hot Tuesday
Julien went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Tuesday's 10-3 win over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Julien has multiple hits in five of his last six games, including back-to-back three-hit efforts. He's homered four times in July, accounting for half of his long balls this season. The second baseman is staking a strong claim to his spot in the lineup with a .308/.380/.548 slash line, 15 RBI, 24 runs scored and two stolen bases over 47 contests. Jorge Polanco (hamstring) could be back by the end of the week, but it figures manager Rocco Baldelli will find a spot for Julien as long as his bat is hot.
Jul 18, 2023
Gets aboard four times
Julien went 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Julien has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, going 12-for-21 (.571) with six extra-base hits in that span. His steal Monday was his second of the campaign. The second baseman is more than holding his own against major-league pitching with a .298/.373/.525 slash line, seven home runs, 14 RBI, 21 runs scored and 11 doubles through 162 plate appearances, though his 32.1 percent strikeout rate is a bit lofty.
Jul 9, 2023
Smacks homer in loss
Julien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Sunday's 15-2 loss to the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Julien accounted for half of the Twins' hits and all of their run production. The second baseman has three homers and two doubles over his last five games. He's at a respectable .271/.349/.504 slash line with seven homers, 13 RBI, 19 runs scored, 10 doubles and a stolen base through 153 plate appearances. Jorge Polanco (hamstring) is likely out another week, so Julien should maintain a strong-side platoon role at second base early in the second half.
Jul 6, 2023
Socks sixth homer
Julien went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-0 win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Getting the start at second base and batting second, the 24-year-old rookie took Alec Marsh deep in the first inning to give Pablo Lopez all the run support he would need. Julien has gone yard in consecutive games to give him six homers on the season, and since rejoining the big-league lineup June 10 he's slashing .290/.375/.484, albeit with a less impressive three RBI and nine runs in 21 contests.
Jul 4, 2023
Sitting versus righty
Julien is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
It marks the third game in a row that Julien begins on the bench, but unlike the first two contests this comes against a right-hander. This comes after Julien homered off the bench during Monday's win over Kansas City. Donovan Solano will cover second base Tuesday.
Jul 4, 2023
Homers off bench
Julien went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Monday's 8-4 victory versus Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Julien began the game on the bench with lefty Austin Cox starting for the Royals, but the rookie second baseman seized the opportunity when called upon to pinch hit in the eighth, launching a 413-foot solo homer to break a 3-3 tie. The long ball was his first since May 27, a span of 24 games, and it also resulted in just his second RBI over that span. Julien has had his ups-and-downs in his first big-league season, slashing .254/.336/.443 with five homers, 10 RBI, 16 runs and one steal over 141 plate appearances. He's posted a solid 10.6 percent walk rate but has also struck out in 34.0 percent of his trips to the plate.
Jul 3, 2023
Idle versus lefty again
Julien is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Julien will sit for the second straight day and for the third time in five games while the Twins face off against left-hander Austin Cox in the series opener with the Royals. Manager Rocco Baldelli seems to view Julien as a strict platoon player at the moment, but Julien should still occupy a prominent spot in the batting order when the Twins oppose right-handed pitchers.
Jul 2, 2023
Sits out against lefty
Julien is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Along with Joey Gallo and Max Kepler, Julien is one of three Twins left-handed-hitting regulars who will head to the bench while the Orioles bring a southpaw (Cole Irvin) to the bump for the series finale. Kyle Farmer will check in at the keystone in place of Julien, who is slashing .281/.364/.386 in 18 games since returning to the big leagues June 10.
Jun 28, 2023
Sitting against lefty
Julien is not in Wednesday's lineup against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Julien is the Twins' leadoff hitter against righties, but he has only started against one lefty this month. Donovan Solano is starting at the keystone and leading off with southpaw Kolby Allard on the hill for Atlanta.
Jun 23, 2023
Out versus lefty
Julien isn't in the Twins' lineup Friday against Detroit, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Left-hander Joey Wentz will start on the mound for Detroit on Friday, meaning the lefty-hitting Julien will begin in the dugout. Kyle Farmer will take over at second base and bat fifth.
Jun 15, 2023
Sitting versus lefty
Julien is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Julien started each of the first four games after his recall and was in the leadoff spot every time. Those were against right-handers, though, and the left-handed batter will begin Thursday on the bench versus southpaw Matthew Boyd. Kyle Farmer will be at second base.
Jun 11, 2023
Leading off again Sunday
Julien will start at second base and serve as the Twins' leadoff hitter in Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
After being called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Julien stepped into the table-setting role in the Twins' 9-4 win and went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run. While Jorge Polanco (hamstring) is on the injured list, Julien will have a clear path to everyday playing time at the keystone, and the on-base skills he's demonstrated at every stop of the minors should allow him to gain traction atop the lineup.
Jun 10, 2023
Recalled from Triple-A
Julien was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul ahead of Saturday's game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
He will take the place of Jorge Polanco, who was placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain. Julien has been back and forth between the majors and Triple-A this season, but when he's been up, he has typically played pretty regularly against righties. He hit second or first in his last five games before his most recent demotion.
Jun 1, 2023
Officially sent back to Triple-A
Julien was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
It wasn't Julien's performance that punched his ticket back to the minors, as he batted .286/.333/.500 with two homers and four RBI in 36 plate appearances since his recall late last month. Rather, Jorge Polanco (hamstring) is back from the injured list and the Twins felt Julien wasn't going to get enough playing time to warrant being carried on the roster. He'll receive everyday at-bats with St. Paul as he awaits another chance.
May 31, 2023
Headed back to Triple-A
Julien will be optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Julien performed well after being recalled to the majors May 20, slashing .286/.333/.500 with two homers and four RBI in 36 plate appearances. He'll be forced back to Triple-A due to the return of Jorge Polanco (hamstring), but the 24-year-old prospect will almost certainly be back with the Twins at some point this year if he continues to crush minor-league pitching.
May 28, 2023
Three extra-base hits in win
Julien went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, two RBI and an additional run scored in Saturday's 9-7 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
While making his sixth consecutive start, Julien turned in the best game of his young career, as he hadn't produced more than one extra-base hit in any of his prior 14 contests with the Twins. Julien -- who will start at second base and bat second in Sunday's series finale -- should be locked into a full-time role with Minnesota so long as Jorge Polanco (hamstring) is stuck on the 10-day injured list.
May 24, 2023
Blasts leadoff homer
Julien went 1-for-3 with one walk, a solo home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 7-1 win over San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
With Joey Gallo resting during the series finale, Julien moved into the leadoff spot Wednesday, and in his first at-bat, he blasted a solo home run of Anthony DeSclafani. It was Julien's second hit since being called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, and his first big-league homer since April 19. The 24-year-old extended Minnesota's lead to 3-1 with a sacrifice fly in the second and came around to score in the fourth after drawing a one-out walk. Julien is in line for regular starts as long as Jorge Polanco (hamstring) remains on the injured list.
May 24, 2023
Manning leadoff spot Wednesday
Julien will start at second base and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Joey Gallo had served as the Twins' table setter in two of the previous three games, but since he'll be resting for the series finale, Julien will receive his first look atop the lineup since being called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday. The rookie had served as the Twins' cleanup or No. 5 batter in each of the previous three games, going 1-for-7 with a walk and four strikeouts. Though he's mustered a .194/.256/.361 slash line through his first 40 plate appearances in the majors, Julien should continue to see regular starts at the keystone so long as Jorge Polanco (hamstring) remains on the injured list.
May 20, 2023
Returns to big leagues
Julien was called up from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Julien will replace Jorge Polanco (hamstring) on the big-league roster after Polanco was place on the 10-day injured list Saturday. Julien is one of the Twins' top prospects and has gone 6-for-27 with two homers, four RBI and four runs scored over eight games with Minnesota in 2023. That being said, the 24-year-old is batting .287 with four long balls, 11 RBI, 26 runs scored and three stolen bases over 108 at-bats in 31 contests with St. Paul this season.
Apr 21, 2023
Optioned to Triple-A level
Julien was optioned Friday to Triple-A St. Paul, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Julien slugged two homers during his eight-game stay in the majors, but the Twins want him to get regular playing time and that was going to be difficult with Jorge Polanco (knee) coming off the injured list ahead of Friday night's game against the Nationals.
Apr 20, 2023
Mashes second home run of season
Julien went 3-for-4 with one homer, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 10-4 victory over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Julien now has two home runs since making his big-league debut on 4/12. The 23-year-old also recorded his first three-hit game in this blowout victory. The rookie infielder will look to continue making his case to be a full-time starter over the coming months.
Apr 18, 2023
Not in Tuesday's lineup
Julien is absent from the Twins' lineup Tuesday against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
The left-handed hitting Julien will take a seat with the Red Sox throwing southpaw Chris Sale. Switch-hitter Willi Castro is at second base. It's the first time in the six games since he was promoted Julien hasn't been in the lineup.
Apr 15, 2023
Batting leadoff Saturday
Julien is batting leadoff Saturday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Byron Buxton is serving as the DH and hitting third. Julien seems to have taken over the leadoff reins against right-handed pitching and will start things off for the Twins on Saturday with Domingo German on the mound for New York.
Apr 14, 2023
Records first career home run
Julien went 2-for-5 with one homer, one RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's victory over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Julien had an impact game for the first time in his young career. The rookie had his first base hit and home run in the same game, showing the potential that made him a top prospect in Minnesota's farm system. The Canadian native will look to string together more solid performances as he tries to establish himself as an everyday player.
Apr 13, 2023
Batting leadoff Thursday
Julien is starting at second base and batting leadoff for the Twins on Thursday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Julien went 0-for-2 with a walk from the eight spot in his major-league debut Wednesday but will move to the top of the order for this one. His on-base skills make him a natural long-term fit at leadoff for the Twins, although we wouldn't necessarily count on it being a regular thing right away.
Apr 12, 2023
Called up, starting at second base
The Twins called up Julien from Triple-A St. Paul ahead of Wednesday's game against the White Sox. He'll start at second base and bat eighth in his MLB debut.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old Julien is one of the organization's top prospects, with his on-base skills and above-average power being his most alluring traits. Though he racked up 53 stolen bases between his 2021 and 2022 minor-league seasons, Julien is lacking in athleticism and likely won't have the green light to run as frequently in the big leagues. He's also limited to playing second base on defense, but he could end up settling into a near-everyday role at the position in the short term with Jorge Polanco (knee) and Royce Lewis (knee) on the injured list and utility man Nick Gordon likely to be needed more frequently in the outfield for the time being while Joey Gallo (intercostal) and Max Kepler (knee) are on the shelf. Julien will retain his most appeal in OBP leagues, but his elevated hard-contact rate could be enough for him to deliver a non-toxic batting average in spite of his high strikeout rate.
Apr 12, 2023
Promoted from Triple-A
Julien was called up from Triple-A St. Paul, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. He's starting at second base and batting eighth in Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Coming off an impressive showing in the World Baseball Classic, Julien has posted a .934 OPS through 29 at-bats at St. Paul. He could get immediate regular playing time with several starters on the injured list. Though he's a top prospect, he may not be in the majors for too long initially with Jorge Polanco and several other injured starters due back soon. Still, he's the kind of player who could get hot and force his way into the everyday lineup.
Apr 11, 2023
Being called up Wednesday
Julien will be called up by the Twins before their game against the White Sox on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Julien will be the replacement for Joey Gallo with Gallo placed on the 10-day injured list with a right intercostal strain, as expected. Over 29 at-bats coming into Tuesday he's forged a .934 OPS with two homers for Triple-A St. Paul. Julien appears to have a bright future, but fantasy players should be cognizant that he won't be guaranteed everyday playing time to begin his MLB career.
Apr 11, 2023
Removed from Triple-A lineup
Julien was removed early from Tuesday's lineup for Triple-A St. Paul ahead of a possible promotion.
ANALYSIS
Julien is removed shortly after the Twins announced that Joey Gallo was headed to the injured list with a right intercostal strain. It's probably not a coincidence. Julien is one of the top prospects in the Minnesota system, and came into Tuesday's contest with a .934 OPS with two homers over 29 at-bats. The question will be how much playing Julien will get in Gallo's absence if he is the corresponding transaction.
Mar 31, 2023
Homers in Triple-A debut
Julien (ankle) went 1-for-4 with a home run Friday for Triple-A St. Paul.
ANALYSIS
Julien hurt his ankle late in spring training but it doesn't look to be an issue for the regular season. Julien begins the minor league season where he left off in the spring as he homered in his first game for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic and also hit three home runs in big league spring training with a 1.114 OPS. A strong start at Triple-A could see him called up earlier rather than later this season, especially if Jorge Polanco's knee injury becomes a long-term issue.
Mar 27, 2023
Leaves game with ankle injury
Julien departed Monday's Grapefruit League contest against the Pirates with a left ankle sprain, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Julien sustained the injury while avoiding the first baseman as he ran through the bag. The Twins are calling him day-to-day. Julien was already sent to minor-league camp earlier this month but could become an option at second base before long if Jorge Polanco's knee issue continues to linger. He'll have to get healthy himself first, of course.
Mar 14, 2023
Sent down to Triple-A
Julien was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul by the Twins on Tuesday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Julien had a nice showing this spring, putting up a .919 OPS with two home runs in six games. The 23-year-old on-base machine was added to the Twins' 40-man roster over the offseason after posting a .300/.441/.490 line with 17 homers and 19 steals at Double-A Wichita in 2022. He will see his first Triple-A action in 2023 and could push to debut at some point later in the year.
Mar 12, 2023
Leadoff HR for team Canada
Julien led off the game with a home run, went 1-for-2 and had four walks while batting leadoff for Canada in Sunday's World Baseball Classic win over Great Britain. He was hitting .250 with two home runs and a.919 OPS in six games for the Twins in spring training before leaving for the WBC.
ANALYSIS
Julien has been an on-base machine in his minor league career, so the four walks Sunday are no surprise. He slashed .303/.443/.491 with a 24.6 K%, a 19.3 BB% and a strong 32.6 Hard% at Double-A last season. He then was a star of the Arizona Fall League where he hit .400 with five home runs and more walks (23) than strikeouts (22) in 21 games. He'll likely begin the season at Triple-A and could be in the majors early in the season should an opening arise.
