Flounders against Pirates
Cabrera did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 3.2 innings against the Pirates. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
With the Marlins in the thick of the NL wild card race, manager Skip Schumaker didn't give Cabrera a long leash. The 25-year-old struggled with his control again Friday night -- a common theme for his 2023 campaign as he entered the start with an ugly 5.9 K/9. Cabrera ends the season with a 4.42 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 118:66 K:BB over 99.2 innings.
Sep 29, 2023
Drawing Friday's start
Cabrera will start for the Marlins on Friday in Pittsburgh, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was seemingly either going to start Friday or Saturday and the Marlins have decided to hand him the ball in the series opener. Given the state of Miami's pitching staff, they could really use some length out of Cabrera on Friday. Unfortunately, he hasn't gone six innings in a start in the majors since early June.
Sep 24, 2023
Solid in seventh win
Cabrera (7-7) earned the win Sunday against Milwaukee, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
After struggling in a recent outing against the Brewers on Sept. 12 in which he allowed six walks, Cabrera displayed much better control and was able to secure the win Sunday. Since being recalled Sept. 6, the 25-year-old pitcher has a 1.89 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB in 19 innings over four starts. He has allowed two or fewer walks in three of those four outings. Cabrera's last start of the season is currently scheduled to be on the road against Pittsburgh.
Sep 18, 2023
Yields one run
Cabrera allowed one run on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in Monday's loss to the Mets. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera made his first MLB start since July 31 and looked efficient with 51 strikes on 77 pitches. In three appearances since rejoining the Marlins, he's registered a 1.93 ERA and a 17:9 K:BB through 14 frames. He now owns a 4.35 ERA across 91 innings at the MLB level. Cabrera is currently projected for a home matchup with the Brewers this weekend.
Sep 17, 2023
Set to start Monday
Cabrera is expected to start Monday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander worked as the bulk pitcher in his first two appearances back with the Marlins, but he's set to start Monday's contest. Cabrera has still had control issues with eight walks in those two outings, but he's allowed just two runs on two hits with 13 strikeouts over 8.2 innings.
Sep 13, 2023
Walks six in bulk relief
Cabrera (6-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Brewers. He allowed two runs on one hit and six walks while striking out five over 4.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera followed up JT Chargois -- who tossed one scoreless frame as an opener -- and dished out six walks for the second time in his last three appearances. Despite his lack of control, Cabrera held the Brewers to just two runs on one hit. Since being called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 6, Cabrera has worked exclusively as a bulk reliever, owning a 2.08 ERA and a 13:8 K:BB through 8.2 frames.
Sep 12, 2023
Likely to work in bulk relief again
Cabrera is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher JT Chargois in Tuesday's game in Milwaukee, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Though he hasn't started since being called up from Triple-A Jacksonville last Wednesday, Cabrera looks to be the fifth member of the Miami rotation after Sandy Alcantara (forearm) was recently placed on the injured list. In his return to the big leagues last week, Cabrera was used behind Chargois in an 11-4 win over the Dodgers, tossing four scoreless frames and striking out eight while picking up the win. Given the strong results Cabrera provided in the bulk-relief role in his last appearance, the Marlins will likely deploy him in that capacity again with the hope he can deliver a repeat performance.
Sep 7, 2023
Sharp as bulk reliever
Cabrera (6-6) picked up the win in Wednesday's 11-4 victory over the Dodgers, allowing one hit and two walks over four scoreless relief innings. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
While initial reports suggested the right-hander would be joining the rotation, particularly after Sandy Alcantara (forearm) landed on the IL, Cabrera was instead deployed as a bulk reliever and didn't take the mound until after three other Marlins pitchers had worked a combined four frames. The gambit by manager Skip Schumaker paid off, as Cabrera generated 25 called or swinging strikes on only 72 pitches as he dominated the Dodgers and collected his first first big-league win since early June. It's not clear what his usage will be moving forward, but if he stays on turn, the 25-year-old's next outing would come early next week in Milwaukee.
Sep 6, 2023
Recalled to rotation
Miami recalled Cabrera from Triple-A Jacksonville ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
The initial plan had been for Cabrera to return as a sixth starter for the Marlins, but he's now entering a five-man mix with Sandy Alcantara getting sent to the 15-day injured list Wednesday because of a flexor strain. Cabrera, 25, was sporting a 2.22 ERA and 30:12 K:BB in 28.1 innings (five starts) since his Aug. 1 demotion to Jacksonville. He's worked to a 4.79 ERA and 93:52 K:BB in 77 innings (17 starts) this season at the MLB level.
Sep 5, 2023
Expected to start Wednesday
Cabrera joined the Marlins on Tuesday and is expected to start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera hasn't officially been recalled to the major-league roster, but the Marlins can make that move ahead of Wednesday's game without having to lose anybody. They're going to roll with a six-man rotation down the stretch while trying to claim one of the three NL Wild Card spots. Cabrera, 25, pitched to a 2.22 ERA and 30:12 K:BB in 28.1 innings (five starts) with Triple-A Jacksonville following his Aug. 1 demotion.
Sep 3, 2023
Candidate for call-up Wednesday
Cabrera could be called up from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers in Miami, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins appear set to break in a new member of the rotation this week, as Miami has already confirmed Jesus Luzardo (Tuesday) and Braxton Garrett (Thursday) as starting pitchers for two of its games against Los Angeles while having yet to name a starter for the middle game of the series. Assuming the Marlins don't opt to treat Wednesday's game as a bullpen day, Cabrera would seemingly be the top candidate to fill the opening. Since being optioned to the minors Aug. 1, Cabrera has shown improved command over his five starts with Jacksonville, accruing a 2.22 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 30:12 K:BB while allowing just two home runs in 28.1 innings.
Aug 14, 2023
Making progress with command
Cabrera has looked good in two starts for Triple-A Jacksonville since his demotion, allowing just two earned runs over 12 innings with a 13:3 K:BB, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Both runs came on solo homers, but the Marlins are more concerned with Cabrera simply getting the ball into the strike zone consistently, trusting that the movement on his plus stuff will take care of the rest. "You watch him, [but] you don't watch the results," manager Skip Schumaker said Saturday before the right-hander's most recent outing, in which he struck out 10 over six scoreless innings against Norfolk. "When you're watching him, he's commanding all of his pitches again, which is what we're looking for. Hopefully he continues to do that. If he continues to do that and knock the door down, he'll come back up." Cabrera is eligible to return to the big-league roster as soon as Wednesday, and with Eury Perez struggling to last five innings since rejoining the Miami rotation, the two young hurlers could switch places for this weekend's road series against the Dodgers.
Aug 1, 2023
Optioned to Triple-A
Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera struggled mightily with his command in his last start Monday versus the Phillies, yielding six walks over just three innings. The right-hander heads back to the farm holding an overall 4.79 ERA and 1.47 WHIP through 17 major-league starts this year.
Jul 31, 2023
Walks six in three innings
Cabrera did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing two runs on two hits and six walks over three innings against Philadelphia. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
It was another abbreviated outing for Cabrera after he pitched just two innings before departing against Tampa Bay with a blister in his prior start. Cabrera's line ultimately could've been much worse, as he was only charged with two runs despite issuing six walks. Command has been a problem for the 25-year-old Cabrera so far this season -- his walk rate is up to 14.3%. Overall, Cabrera is 5-6 with a 4.79 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 93:52 K:BB across 17 starts (77 innings) this year.
Jul 31, 2023
Cleared to start Monday
Cabrera is listed as the Marlins' probable starter for Monday's game against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
In his last outing July 25, Cabrera, who was taking the hill for the second time since returning from the 15-day injured list following a one-month absence due to a shoulder issue, was lifted after just two innings and 53 pitches in his start against the Rays due to a blister on his throwing hand, according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald. Though blisters have been a recurring problem for Cabrera this season, he presumably came out of his between-starts bullpen session without issue and will return to the bump Monday on five days' rest.
Jul 26, 2023
Lasts two innings in loss
Cabrera (5-6) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over two innings against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
After Cabrera pitched a clean opening frame, the Rays rallied to put up three runs with two outs in the second inning, forcing Cabrera out of the game after throwing 53 pitches. The Marlins have understandably been cautious with Cabrera after he missed over a month with a shoulder injury. He's allowed four runs over seven innings in two starts since returning to the rotation. Overall, Cabrera sports a 4.74 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP and 90:46 K:BB through 16 starts (74 innings) this season. His next outing is currently lined up for next week against Philadelphia.
Jul 18, 2023
Allows one run in return from IL
Cabrera (shoulder) didn't factor in the decision Tuesday at St. Louis after he struck out six and gave up one run on two hits and three walks across five innings.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander returned from a month-long stint on the injured list due to a shoulder impingement Tuesday, and he fired five scoreless frames before Brendan Donovan's leadoff homer in the sixth. Cabrera finished at 74 pitches and could continue to have some workload limitations in his next couple starts since he rejoined Miami's rotation without a rehab assignment.
Jul 18, 2023
Expected to start Tuesday
Cabrera (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday and is listed as the probable starter for the Marlins' game against the Cardinals in St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Though the Marlins haven't officially confirmed that Cabrera will rejoin the rotation Tuesday, all signs point to the right-hander being activated after he threw a five-inning simulated game last Thursday before rejoining the big club on its road trip over the weekend. Because he hasn't pitched in an official game since June 13, Cabrera could have some workload limitations as he steps back into the rotation in St. Louis, so fantasy managers in shallower leagues may not want to jump the gun and activate him Tuesday.
Jul 15, 2023
Completes sim game, may return soon
Cabrera (shoulder) threw a five-inning simulated game Thursday with the Marlins' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Cabrera hasn't pitched in an official minor-league game since landing on the 15-day injured list June 17 with a right shoulder impingement, the 25-year-old looks like he could be cleared to return from the shelf without requiring a formal rehab assignment beforehand. According to McPherson, Cabrera posted on his personal Instagram account that he rejoined the Marlins for their series in Baltimore this weekend, which suggests that he won't be reporting to a minor-league affiliate for a rehab start. If that's the case, Cabrera could slot back into the Miami rotation when the team requires a fifth starter for the first time since the All-Star break Tuesday in St. Louis.
Jul 7, 2023
Beginning assignment Saturday
Cabrera (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Jupiter on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera has been on the shelf since June 17 with a right shoulder impingement, and he now seems to be nearing the end of his recovery process. It's unclear how many starts he'll make while on assignment, but odds are Cabrera returns before the end of July.
Jun 30, 2023
Throws bullpen session
Cabrera (shoulder) threw a 22-pitch bullpen session Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera only used his fastball during the workout, but he told reporters afterward that he felt "super great." On the shelf since June 17 because of a right shoulder impingement, the 25-year-old is trending toward a return to the Marlins' rotation shortly after the All-Star break.
Jun 17, 2023
Placed on 15-day IL
The Marlins placed Cabrera on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right shoulder impingement, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera had a tough time during his last start Tuesday against Seattle, allowing five runs over four innings and taking the loss. His injury will force him to miss multiple turns through the Marlins' rotation, and it's unclear if he will require longer than a minimum IL stint. Huascar Brazoban was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.
Jun 14, 2023
Hurt by long ball in loss
Cabrera (5-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Mariners, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four over four innings.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera allowed home runs in the second and fourth innings, with both coming after leadoff walks. His control issues have always been his Achilles heel, though he has been better with 11 walks over his last 31.2 innings after walking 30 batters in 35.1 innings through his first eight starts. For the year, the 25-year-old owns a 4.70 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and has offset the walk issues with 84 strikeouts in 67 innings. He lines up to face Toronto at home next week.
Jun 13, 2023
Good to go Tuesday
Cabrera (hand) is listed as the Marlins' scheduled starter for Tuesday's game in Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera looks to be good to go after his most recent start June 7 against the Royals was cut short after five innings due to a blister on his pitching hand. The young right-hander has struggled to rein in walks (14.0 BB%) this season, but thanks to a 29.4 percent strikeout rate and 53.3 percent groundball rate, he's been able to maintain a serviceable 4.29 ERA through 13 starts.
Jun 7, 2023
Exits start with injury
Cabrera departed Wednesday's start against the Royals with an undisclosed injury, Noah Berger of SB Nation reports. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks over five innings before exiting.
ANALYSIS
Marlins manager Skip Schumaker and the team's trainer appeared to be looking at Cabrera's hand before walking off the field with the righty. Cabrera struck out four batters and threw 65 pitches over his five frames before exiting.
Jun 3, 2023
Strikes out 10 in scoreless outing
Cabrera (4-4) earned the win Friday, allowing four hits and one walk across six scoreless innings in a 4-0 win over the Athletics. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera took advantage of a favorable matchup and recorded double-digit strikeouts for the second time this year while posting his first scoreless outing. The right-hander's 4.50 ERA and 1.43 WHIP aren't enticing, but he's struck out 76 batters over his first 58 innings, giving him a stellar 11.8 K/9 (fifth best in MLB). Cabrera will look to build off his strong start next time out, which is tentatively scheduled for the finale of a three-game set versus Kansas City.
May 28, 2023
Walks four in no-decision
Cabrera allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera came up an out short of his third quality start, but this was far from a good performance. Walks continue to be an issue for the right-hander, who has issued at least four free passes in six of his 11 outings this season. He's now at a 5.02 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 66:35 K:BB through 52 innings. Cabrera is lined up for a favorable home start versus the Athletics next week.
May 22, 2023
Turns in quality start
Cabrera (3-4) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings, but he took the loss Monday versus the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera's last start was cut short by a blister on his right middle finger, but he was able to work past it over the last few days to start on schedule. He pitched fairly well Monday, throwing 51 of 89 pitches for strikes, but it was a sixth-inning solo shot by Elias Diaz that sent Cabrera to his first loss in three starts. The right-hander has completed six frames just twice in his 10 outings this season, posting a 5.05 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 61:31 K:BB over 46.1 innings. That walk rate will continue to put a damper on his other numbers, but he's yet to have a truly disastrous start this year. He's lined up for a road start versus the Angels over the weekend.
May 18, 2023
Start cut short by blister
Cabrera left Wednesday's win over the Nationals after only 79 pitches due to a blister developing on his right middle finger, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was putting together his best performance of the season, giving up two runs on five hits over five innings with six strikeouts to record his third win. It was the first time in his career Cabrera had lasted at least five innings without walking a batter, making the early exit that much tougher to swallow. He generated 18 swinging strikes, including nine against his changeup. "There were a lot of lefties in the lineup," Cabrera said after the game. "The plan was to attack them with the changeup inside, the curveball outside and the fastball up. That was the plan, and it worked today." Cabrera's next turn in the rotation is set to come early next week in Coors Field, so his fantasy GMs will likely be rooting for the blister to cause the Marlins to skip him, or at least delay his next outing until the team leaves Colorado.
May 11, 2023
Early exit Wednesday
Cabrera didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks, giving up four runs on two hits and four walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was cruising early, blanking Arizona over the first three innings, but Cabrera lost the strike zone in the fourth inning and walked four of the first five batters he faced before eventually getting the hook after 62 pitches (35 strikes). It's the third time in his last four starts he's issued at least four free passes, and his wavering control continues to hold him back. Despite an impressive 29.9 percent strikeout rate through 35.1 innings, Cabrera's 18.3 percent walk rate has led to a 5.35 ERA and 1.67 WHIP. He'll try to figure things out in his next start, likely to come at home next week against the Nationals.
May 6, 2023
Fans eight in Friday's loss
Cabrera (2-3) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk over five innings as the Marlins were downed 4-1 by the Cubs. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander continues to rack up punchouts, as Cabrera generated 30 called or swinging strikes among his 95 pitches, but he got little support from the Miami offense. Friday's effort also represented only the second time in seven starts he hasn't walked multiple batters. Cabrera will carry a 4.78 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 44:26 K:BB through 32 innings into his next outing, likely to come next week in Arizona.
Apr 29, 2023
Posts career-high 12 strikeouts
Cabrera (2-2) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on three hits and five walks over five innings in a 7-6 win over the Cubs. He struck out 12.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera set a career-high in strikeouts Saturday, topping his previous best by three after punching out eight of the final 10 batters he faced. He was tagged for a two-run home run by Patrick Wisdom in the second frame, marking his fourth long ball given up in his last three appearances. Cabrera also couldn't shake his command issues, handing out five free passes Saturday to increase his BB/9 to 8.33 through 27.0 innings. Though he's tough to trust, it's hard to ignore Cabrera's 12.00 K/9, which makes him an intriguing matchup-based streaming option and daily fantasy pick.
Apr 25, 2023
Can't contain Atlanta
Cabrera (1-2) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over 4.1 innings against Atlanta. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera posted two scoreless frames to start the game, but he allowed one run in the second, two in the fourth and was pulled in the fifth with a runner on first and one out. The right-hander currently holds a 4.91 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP with a questionable 24:20 K:BB through 22 innings.
Apr 18, 2023
Earns first win
Cabrera (1-1) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over six innings against San Francisco. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was excellent after surrendering a two-run home run to Mike Yastrzemski in the first inning, blanking the Giants over his final five frames while allowing just three hits. The 25-year-old Cabrera has issued just three walks in his last two starts after walking 13 in his first two outings. He lowers his ERA to 4.08 with a 1.75 WHIP and 18:16 K:BB through 17.2 innings this season.
Apr 12, 2023
Sharpens control in no-decision
Cabrera didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Phillies, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
After issuing 13 free passes in only 6.2 innings over his first two starts of the season, Cabrera had a much better command of the strike zone in this one, tossing 50 of 82 pitches for strikes. The 24-year-old right-hander still has a 4.63 ERA, but Wednesday's improvement should keep him in the Marlins' rotation, although the team doesn't have many other options for his spot at the moment. Cabrera will attempt to take another step forward when he next takes the mound, likely early next week at home against the Giants.
Apr 7, 2023
Can't find plate Friday
Cabrera (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Marlins were downed 9-3 by the Mets, giving up two runs on zero hits and seven walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander issued one free pass in the first inning and two in the second, but he managed to keep those baserunners from scoring before his control completely deserted him in the third. All told, Cabrera threw only 47 of 85 pitches for strikes, and he's now failed to last more than four innings in either of his first two starts of the year. If Braxton Garrett pitches well while filling in for Johnny Cueto (biceps) in the Marlins' rotation, Cabrera could find himself bumped to the bullpen or to Triple-A if he doesn't turn things around quickly.
Apr 5, 2023
Next outing pushed back
Cabrera will not make his start against the Mets as scheduled Thursday after the game was postponed, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Major storms are expected on the East Coast, so the game will be pushed back a day to Friday. Presumably, Cabrera will take the ball that day instead, going up against Tylor Megill.
Apr 1, 2023
Hands out six free passes
Cabrera did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on two hits and six walks over four innings in a 6-2 loss to the Mets. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Only 40 of Cabrera's 85 pitches went for strikes. He fell behind in the count initially to 10 of the 20 batters he faced. It was an afternoon to forget for Cabrera after he generated additional buzz in the Grapefruit League (1.80, 0.93 WHIP, 14:6 K:BB in 15 innings). He showed real potential across 14 starts as a rookie last season, but until he reins in his control, Cabrera has to be considered a volatile fantasy option. The 24-year-old lines up for a road start against these same Mets next week.
Mar 27, 2023
Starting third game of season
Cabrera will be included in the Marlins' Opening Day rotation and is in line to start the team's third game of the season Saturday versus the Mets at LoanDepot Park, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Assuming the Marlins open the season with a five-man rotation, Cabrera looks to have secured the final spot over Braxton Garrett, who is projected to work out of the bullpen until a starting role reopens. Cabrera brings plenty of strikeout upside to the table while leaning on an arsenal that includes a mid-to-high 90s fastball and a low-90s changeup that proved particularly deadly against lefties a season ago, but poor health and high walk and home-run rates have thus far hindered the 24-year-old right-hander in his efforts to establish himself as a full-time starter in the big leagues. He appeared to take significant steps forward late last season and has carried over that success to the spring, making him an appealing target in the middle to later rounds of drafts for any fantasy pitching staff.
Mar 17, 2023
Favorite to win fifth starter job
Cabrera appears to be the favorite to win the final spot in the Miami rotation, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sandy Alcantara, Jesus Luzardo, Trevor Rogers and Johnny Cueto will make up the top four starters for the Marlins. The battle is between Cabrera and Braxton Garrett, and Cabrera appears to have the edge after his strong showing in spring training. Once considered among the very best pitching prospects in baseball, Cabrera has a chance for fantasy relevancy because of his swing-and-miss arsenal, but fantasy managers should take a wait-and-see approach before investing too much in the right-hander.
Feb 18, 2023
Might be squeezed out of rotation
Cabrera could be fighting with Braxton Garrett for the final spot in the Marlins' Opening Day rotation, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The offseason addition of Johnny Cueto could push a younger pitcher to Triple-A Jacksonville, although the team is also considering a six-man rotation. Cabrera was very impressive at times in 2022, riding his 96 mph fastball and nasty changeup to a 25.8 percent strikeout rate and 13.7 percent swinging strike rate, but the 24-year-old righty's 11.3 percent walk rate over 71.2 big-league innings indicates he could perhaps use some additional development time at Triple-A.
Oct 3, 2022
Placed on 15-day IL
Cabrera was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right ankle sprain Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was removed from Saturday's game against the Brewers due to an ankle injury, and he'll close out the season on the injured list. The right-hander wasn't expected to make any more appearances in 2022, and it seems unlikely that his injury will impact his availability for spring training in 2023. Elieser Hernandez was called up to provide a fresh arm for the Marlins during the team's final series of the regular season.
Oct 1, 2022
Aggravates ankle injury
Cabrera exited Saturday's game against the Brewers after appearing to aggravate his right ankle injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera completed three innings of scoreless work while punching out five. However, he was pulled after his warmup pitches in the fourth frame and exited the game with the training staff. The issue shouldn't affect Cabrera in the long term, but he is almost certainly done for the 2022 campaign, during which he threw 71.2 innings and maintained an excellent 3.01 ERA to go along with a 75:33 K:BB.
Sep 29, 2022
Ready to pitch Saturday
Cabrera (ankle) is listed as the Marlins' probable starting pitcher for Saturday's game in MIlwaukee
ANALYSIS
Cabrera's inclusion on the Marlins' upcoming pitching schedule suggests that the strained right ankle he sustained in his last outing Sunday against the Nationals isn't anything too worrisome. The right-hander wrapped up September with a 2-2 record, 4.38 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB across 24.2 innings over his five starts.
Sep 25, 2022
Exits with ankle strain
Cabrera had X-rays come back negative and was diagnosed with a low-grade right ankle strain after he exited Sunday's game against the Nationals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera tweaked his ankle while fielding a bunt during the fourth inning and was lifted from the contest, though he pleaded with manager Don Mattingly to stay in the game. The 24-year-old allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and zero walks over 3.2 innings, and he's in line for the loss with the Marlins trailing 3-0. It's unclear if the injury will affect Cabrera's availability for his next turn through the rotation, which tentatively lines up for next weekend in Milwaukee.
Sep 20, 2022
Picks up lackluster win
Cabrera (6-3) yielded three runs on three hits and three walks over five innings Monday, striking out four and earning a win against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera coughed up a pair of runs in the third inning, including Christopher Morel's solo homer, before allowing one more run in the fifth. Since turning in four straight scoreless starts, the 6-foot-5 righty has registered a 5.74 ERA over his last five outings. He's now sporting a 2.91 ERA with a 67:33 K:BB through 65 frames. Cabrera is lined up to face the Nationals at home this weekend.
Sep 14, 2022
Defeated by the long ball Wednesday
Cabrera (5-3) took the loss Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over 5.1 innings against the Phillies. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera allowed just three hits on the evening, but unfortunately for the 24-year-old, two of them left the yard, which was enough to saddle him with the loss. While Cabrera has allowed three or fewer earned runs in all but two of his 11 starts this season, only three have gone for six or more innings, likely the result of high pitch counts associated with free passes. His three walks Wednesday give him 30 on the season, compared to 63 strikeouts.

Notches fifth win
Cabrera (5-2) picked up the win in Friday's 6-3 victory over the Mets, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander cruised through five innings before running into trouble in the sixth, and after a Peter Alonso homer was followed by a walk to Tyler Naquin, Cabrera got the hook one out short of his fourth quality start of the season. Since returning from the IL at the beginning of August, the 24-year-old's posted an impressive 2.31 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 44:18 K:BB through 39 innings.

Strikes out seven in no-decision
Cabrera didn't factor into the decision during Saturday's 2-1 loss to Atlanta, allowing one run on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in five innings.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was able to limit the damage to an Austin Riley solo shot in the fourth inning despite some traffic on the bases. The 24-year-old found the zone with 57 of 98 pitches and induced 12 swinging strikes en route to notching at least seven strikeouts for the fifth time in nine turns this season. Cabrera carries a 2.39 ERA and 1.06 WHIP into his next start, slated for next weekend against the Mets.
Aug 28, 2022
Stumbles against Dodgers
Cabrera (4-2) allowed six runs on five hits and three walks over 5.2 innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera gave up three runs in the first two innings, including Mookie Betts' home run to lead off the contest. The 24-year-old kept the Dodgers off the board for three straight innings before he was charged with three more runs in the sixth. Cabrera entered Sunday having yielded just six runs through 38.1 innings on the year, including a four-start scoreless streak that spanned 22.2 frames. He'll carry a 2.45 ERA into his projected start in Atlanta next weekend.
Aug 23, 2022
Tosses gem in win
Cabrera (4-1) earned the win over Oakland on Monday, allowing two hits and issuing three walks while striking out seven batters over eight scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was dominant in the victory, breezing through a career-high eight frames on only 101 pitches. He racked up 15 swinging strikes and punched out seven batters while retiring the final 14 hitters he faced. Since returning from the injured list Aug. 5, Cabrera has made five starts and hasn't given up any runs while notching a 28:10 K:BB over 22.2 innings. Aside from a blowup June 12 when he gave up five runs over 3.2 frames against the Astros, Cabrera has been almost impossible to score upon this season. He carries a tidy 1.41 ERA through 38.1 innings on the campaign.
Aug 16, 2022
Fans seven in no-decision
Cabrera struck out seven in four scoreless innings while allowing three hits, two walks and a hit batsman in a 4-3 win Tuesday against San Diego. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera wasn't as sharp as he had been in his previous two starts but still managed to hold the Padres scoreless. He needed 91 pitches to complete the four frames and was taken out rather than face the top of the lineup a third time. Since returning from an elbow injury at the beginning of August he has now allowed a run in 14.2 innings, striking out 21 and allowing just six singles. His next start will likely be early next week in Oakland.
Aug 12, 2022
Shuts down Phillies
Cabrera (3-1) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six across 5.2 scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera took his second turn through the rotation since being activated from the injured list Aug. 5. He generated seven groundball outs and 11 swinging strikes across 91 pitches to shut down the Phillies' offense. Cabrera has been impressive in his pair of starts since returning, throwing 10.2 scoreless frames with a 14:5 K:BB. For the season, he has a 2.05 ERA across just 26.1 innings.
Aug 8, 2022
Gets another start
Cabrera is scheduled to start Thursday's series finale in Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Miami plugged Cabrera back into its rotation in his return from the 15-day injured list Friday, and the right-hander came through with a dominant outing, striking out eight and issuing three walks over five no-hit scoreless innings. Cabrera will be rewarded with another turn Thursday, but unless the Marlins permanently expand to a six-man rotation, he may not be long for a starting role. Trevor Rogers (back) is scheduled to make a rehab start Tuesday for Double-A Jacksonville and could come off the IL to replace Cabrera in the big-league rotation as soon as Sunday.
Aug 5, 2022
Dominant in five-inning start
Cabrera struck out eight batters while walking three in five hitless, scoreless innings Friday against the Cubs. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
A lack of run support meant the Marlins couldn't turn Cabrera's dominance into a win, but the team could hardly have asked for more from the second-year righty. The first inning represented the only time the Cubs would get a runner in scoring position thanks to a pair of walks, and Cabrera ended that jam as quickly as possible with a double play. For the next four frames, all Cabrera would allow was a single two-out walk. The fact that the outing was his first start back from the injured list following a trip to the injured list due to elbow tendinitis makes it all the more impressive. The Marlins' plans for the young righty the rest of the way haven't been officially confirmed, but he'll presumably remain in the rotation as long as he pitches anything close to how he pitched Friday.
Aug 5, 2022
Starting Friday
Cabrera is starting Friday against the Cubs, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera seemed likely to start Friday after he was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Thursday, and the Marlins confirmed him as the starter a few hours before the start of the game. Over his three starts this season, he's posted a 3.45 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 15.2 innings.
Aug 4, 2022
Activated from injured list
Cabrera (elbow) was activated from the 15-day injured list and recalled by Miami on Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera has been sidelined since June 15 with right elbow tendinitis. The team has made no formal announcement, but Cabrera is likely to start Friday against the Cubs. The Marlins will likely watch his workload carefully, especially because he threw only 44 pitches in his most recent rehab outing.
Jul 28, 2022
Sharp in rehab outing
Cabrera (elbow) allowed one hit and no walks while striking out seven across five scoreless innings in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera threw 44 pitches in the appearance -- eight fewer than his last rehab outing -- but was extremely efficient. He's made three rehab appearances, so could rejoin the big-league roster for his next turn through the rotation, though the Marlins have not made their intentions clear.
Jul 22, 2022
Works three innings
Cabrera (elbow) threw three scoreless innings while striking out seven and walking one with Double-A Pensacola on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was slated to throw four innings, but he still managed to increase his workload to 52 pitches. He could rejoin the Marlins rotation on his next turn through the rotation, though the team could opt to also send him on another rehab outing to further build his arm strength.
Jul 21, 2022
Making another rehab start
Cabrera (elbow) will make his second rehab start with Double-A Pensacola on Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera is expected to work four innings Friday after he covered three perfect frames in his initial outing for Pensacola on July 16. The right-hander has been on the shelf since mid-June with elbow tendinitis and may need one additional rehab outing beyond Friday before coming off the 15-day injured list. It's unclear if the Marlins will have room in the rotation for Cabrera once he's ready to return, as fellow starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo (elbow) is also trending toward coming off the IL in the final week of July or in early August.
Jul 15, 2022
Begins rehab assignment
Cabrera (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Pensacola on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera has been out for a month with right elbow tendinitis. He was originally scheduled to make a rehab start in late June, but wound up delayed for a few weeks due to a personal matter. If he winds up making two rehab starts, he'll likely return during the final week of July.
Jul 11, 2022
Faces hitters
Cabrera (elbow) tossed a two-inning live batting practice session Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins will likely assess Cabrera's condition Tuesday before deciding whether he's ready to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment. Since he's been on the injured list since June 15 with right elbow tendinitis, Cabrera will presumably require two starts in the minors before being activated from the IL, likely at some point shortly after the All-Star break.
Jul 5, 2022
Tosses bullpen session
Cabrera (elbow) completed a 25-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was placed on the 15-day injured list June 15 with right elbow tendinitis, but it's been a personal matter rather than the elbow issue that has delayed his return to the active roster. The right-hander had been scheduled to start for Triple-A Jacksonville on June 22 before leaving the affiliate to address the personal situation. Cabrera's ability to complete a bullpen session suggests he's put the personal issue behind him, but he'll still need to ramp up a little more before the Marlins lock him in for another rehab start. The 24-year-old doesn't look as though he'll have enough time to make it back from the IL before the All-Star break.
Jun 22, 2022
Misses rehab start
Cabrera (elbow) didn't make his rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Jacksonville as originally planned after he had to tend to a personal matter, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins don't believe Cabrera will be away from the Triple-A club for more than a day or two, but his timeline for rejoining the big-league roster will be delayed a bit after he missed out on the rehab start. if Cabrera is ready to make a start for Jacksonville this weekend, he could still be a candidate to return from the 15-day injured list at some point next week.
Jun 21, 2022
Cleared for rehab start
Cabrera (elbow) is scheduled to make a rehab appearance Wednesday for Triple-A Jacksonville, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera will take the mound 10 days after making his last start with the Marlins and subsequently being placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow tightness. In light of his quick return to game action, Cabrera may need only one rehab start before getting the green light to rejoin the Miami rotation as soon as next week's series in St. Louis. Braxton Garrett or Daniel Castano will lose out on a rotation spot once Cabrera is formally reinstated from the IL.
Jun 15, 2022
Placed on injured list
Cabrera was placed on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow tendinitis Wednesday, retroactive to June 13, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera struggled during Sunday's start against the Astros, as he gave up five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two in 3.2 innings to take his first loss of the season. It's possible that his injury played a role in his lackluster results, and he'll be forced to miss at least two weeks. Daniel Castano was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Wednesday's game against the Phillies, and he'll likely have a chance to remain in the rotation while Cabrera is sidelined.
Jun 12, 2022
Hits first hurdle Sunday
Cabrera (2-1) took the loss Sunday versus the Astros. He allowed five runs on seven hits, three walks and a hit batter with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera cruised through six innings in each of his first two starts, but those came against the Rockies and the Nationals. The Astros presented a much firmer challenge, and the 24-year-old was pulled after running into trouble in the fourth inning Sunday. He's at a 3.45 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 15:9 K:BB across 15.2 innings, with the free passes continuing to be the most concerning aspect on his stat line. He'll look to get back on track in a road start versus the Mets next week, and Cabrera's place in the rotation should be safe until at least one of Cody Poteet (elbow) or Jesus Luzardo (forearm) can return, which is still likely weeks away.
Jun 8, 2022
Sharp in second win
Cabrera (2-0) picked up the win in Tuesday's 12-2 rout of the Nationals, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander wasn't dominant, but he took a shutout into the sixth inning before Luis Garcia tagged him for a solo shot. Cabrera has been fairly impressive in two starts since joining the Marlins' rotation, and while his six walks in 12 innings needs some work, it's balanced out by 13 whiffs and only three hits allowed.
Jun 6, 2022
Remains in rotation
Cabrera is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday against the Nationals in Miami.
ANALYSIS
The matchup with the 21-35 Nationals at LoanDepot Park is a far more favorable draw for Cabrera than last week, when he was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville to start the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Rockies at Coors Field. Though he issued four walks and hit two batters in the outing, Cabrera more than earned a second turn through the rotation after striking out nine and allowing only one hit over 6.1 scoreless frames. With both Jesus Luzardo (forearm) and Cody Poteet (elbow) on the 15-day injured list and facing unclear return timelines, Cabrera should be in good shape to hold down a back-end rotation spot beyond Tuesday's outing.
Jun 1, 2022
Wild but effective in win
Cabrera (1-0) allowed a hit, four walks and two hit batters while striking out nine over six shutout innings to earn the win in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera didn't have a conventionally great start, but he was able to pitch around his mistakes rather impressively given the unfriendly road venue. The lack of command is a bit concerning -- he threw just 59 of 94 pitches for strikes -- but this was a positive result for the 24-year-old top prospect. He's been alright with Triple-A Jacksonville, logging a 4.56 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB across 23.2 innings. Cabrera's not guaranteed another turn through the rotation, so fantasy managers may want to wait and see if he sticks around on the Marlins' roster.
Jun 1, 2022
Called up for doubleheader
The Marlins recalled Cabrera from Triple-A Jacksonville ahead of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Rockies in Colorado, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was in line to receive a call-up to start Tuesday's contest, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Denver. Rather than reordering their rotation as a result of the postponement, the Marlins will instead push each of their other four starters back a day in the pitching schedule, allowing Cabrera to start one half of the twin bill. If Cabrera fares well against the Rockies, he'll have a good chance at sticking around as the Marlins' fifth starter moving forward with both Jesus Luzardo (forearm) and Cody Poteet (elbow) on the injured list. Over his five outings with Jacksonville this season, Cabrera has turned in a 4.56 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB across 23.2 innings.
May 31, 2022
Tuesday's start postponed
Cabrera won't be called up to start Tuesday against the Rockies as previously reported, as the game has been postponed due to rain, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday. Cabrera will likely be called upon to start one of those two games, though the Marlins have yet to announce their plans.
May 29, 2022
Slated to join major-league club
Cabrera will be called up by the Marlins early this week and will likely make likely start Tuesday against the Rockies, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera missed the start of the regular season due to a biceps injury, but he joined Triple-A Jacksonville in early May and posted a 4.56 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 23.2 innings over five starts. The 24-year-old made his major-league debut for Miami last year and recorded a 5.81 ERA, 28:19 K:BB and 1.63 WHIP in 26.1 innings over seven starts. Cabrera has dealt with various injuries in recent years but will now get another chance to prove himself in the big-league rotation.
May 23, 2022
Could be ready for majors
Cabrera struck out 11 batters over six innings Friday for Triple-A Jacksonville, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk.
ANALYSIS
The innings and whiffs were both season highs for the 24-year-old right-hander, and the outing came while Max Meyer (elbow) was on the shelf with ulnar nerve irritation. If the Marlins decide to make a chance in the big-league rotation in the next couple weeks, Cabrera appears to be ready for the assignment.
May 9, 2022
Sharp on Sunday at Triple-A
Cabrera gave up three hits and a walk while striking out six over five scoreless innings for Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old right-hander had a delayed start to the season due to a biceps strain, but after walking four batters in four innings during his first outing for Jacksonville on Tuesday, Cabrera looked much sharper in his second turn. The Marlins' No. 4 fantasy prospect could be an option to help the big club over the summer if he can stay healthy, but Max Meyer seems more likely to get the first crack at a rotation spot if one opens up.
May 3, 2022
Ready for Triple-A debut
The Marlins transferred Cabrera (biceps) from Single-A Jupiter to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He's scheduled to make his 2022 Triple-A debut Tuesday against Memphis. After being slowed in the spring by a biceps issue, Cabrera opened the season on Jacksonville's 7-day injured list before heading to Single-A Jupiter for a rehab assignment. He looked sharp in his lone start at Jupiter on April 27, striking out seven over four scoreless frames while allowing one hit and issuing three walks.
Apr 19, 2022
Returning to action Thursday
Cabrera (biceps) will be activated from the 7-day injured list Thursday to make a start for Low-A Jupiter in the affiliate's game against St. Lucie, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins optioned Cabrera to Low-A coming out of spring training so he could conduct his rehab program for his biceps injury at the team's facility, which is also located in Jupiter. As a result, Cabrera's outing Thursday won't be considered a rehab assignment, even though he's eventually expected to move into the rotation at Triple-A Jacksonville. Cabrera ended up making seven late-season starts for the Marlins in 2021, and once he's fully ramped up at Triple-A, he'll likely profile as the next man up to step into the big-league rotation if the Marlins require another starter.
Apr 14, 2022
Completes bullpen session
Cabrera (biceps) tossed a 20-pitch bullpen session Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera currently resides on the 7-day injured list of Low-A Jupiter, but his assignment to the low-level affiliate is likely just related to the Marlins' spring facility being located in Jupiter. The Marlins may have Cabrera make a rehab start at Jupiter once he's deemed ready for game action, though the 24-year-old is eventually expected to settle into the rotation at Triple-A Jacksonville once activated from the IL. Cabrera finished the 2021 campaign in the big-league rotation and should be one of the top candidates for a promotion if the Marlins should lose a starting pitcher at any point this season.
Apr 12, 2022
Rehabbing in Jupiter
Cabrera (biceps) is on the 7-day injured list at Low-A Jupiter and resumed a throwing progression Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
While Cabrera would likely be at Triple-A Jacksonville if he were fully healthy, general manager Kim Ng said it would be easier for him to be monitored by a number of the Marlins' different medical professionals if he were stationed in Jupiter. Cabrera also dealt with a biceps issue last spring.
Apr 10, 2022
Dealing with biceps issue
Cabrera was placed on the minor-league injured list Sunday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
This is concerning news, not only because it is an arm injury, but also because Cabrera also had a biceps issue in the spring of 2021. It's unclear how long he may be sidelined, though any return to the majors will certainly be delayed.
Mar 31, 2022
Optioned to Triple-A
Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera faced a difficult path to make the Opening Day rotation. He was effective across three scoreless innings in Grapefruit League action on Monday, though he arrived to camp late due to visa issues, raising some question about his availability to begin the regular season. In addition, the Marlins boast a strong rotation, particularly given Jesus Luzardo's -- the team's likely fifth starter -- promising spring performance. Despite the fact that Cabrera will begin the campaign in Jacksonville, he will almost certainly get starts in Miami at some point in the coming months.
Mar 29, 2022
Unveils new pitch Monday
Cabrera tossed three scoreless, no-hit innings against the Nationals in his 2022 spring training debut Monday, allowing one walk and striking out three. He also worked a new sinker into his arsenal, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The power sinker is sitting in the high 90s, and Cabrera feels it will play well off his plus slider, which he used to fan Nelson Cruz on Monday. "It's something that I'm applying to the game," Cabrera said after the outing. "I'm throwing a 98 [mph] sinker and then it's something that I want to surprise some of the batters with an 88 [mph] slider, especially if it's breaking like it was today. I can apply it and have some success here." The 23-year-old right-hander struggled in his big-league debut last year after dominating in the high minors, but he still posted a solid 23.3 percent strikeout rate over 26.1 innings for Miami. The Marlins are hoping he can make the same kind of leap forward in 2022 that Trevor Rogers did in 2021.
Mar 28, 2022
Set for spring debut Monday
Cabrera is scheduled to start Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera finished the 2021 campaign on the injured list due to a blister on his right middle finger, but it was visa issues that prevented him from beginning his buildup program at the same time as the Marlins' other starting candidates at the start of spring training. After resolving the visa issue and reporting to camp, Cabrera is now on track to make his spring debut. Despite the missed workouts, Cabrera still looks like he'll be ready to go for the start of the regular season, though he may need to pitch well Monday and in his subsequent spring outings to clinch a spot in Miami's Opening Day rotation. Over his first seven big-league starts in 2021, Cabrera posted a 5.81 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 28:19 K:BB across 26.1 innings.
Oct 1, 2021
Moves to injured list
Cabrera (finger) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was lifted after three innings Thursday due to a blister on his right middle finger, so he had already pitched for the final time this season regardless of whether or not he was put on the IL. The 23-year-old ended 2021 with a 5.81 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 28:19 K:BB across 26.1 innings (seven starts). He should be back to full health early in the offseason.
Sep 30, 2021
Dealing with blister
Cabrera was removed from Thursday's game against the Mets with a blister on his right middle finger, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was lifted in favor of a pinch hitter after only three innings and 56 pitches. His season is almost certainly over, and he pitched a combined 84.2 frames across multiple levels of the minor leagues and also in Miami. In his first taste of the major leagues, he managed a 5.79 ERA with a 1.67 WHIP across 23.1 innings.
Sep 24, 2021
Walks four in loss
Cabrera (0-3) allowed three runs on two hits and four walks over three innings Friday, striking out six and taking a loss against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera served up a three-run double to Randy Arozarena in the first inning. Despite the disappointing final line, the right-handed rookie retired the last six batters he faced with four strikeouts. He's given up at least three earned runs in four of his first six MLB appearances and his ERA is up to 5.79 through 23.1 frames. Cabrera is projected to face the Mets on the road next week.
Sep 15, 2021
In clear to start Saturday
Cabrera (toe) is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Pirates in Miami, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
He'll return to the mound on five days' rest after his previous outing was cut short by a sore right big toe, which may have played a factor in Cabrera's spotty control -- he threw 44 of 75 pitches for strikes -- in the start against Atlanta. Through his first four big-league starts, Cabrera is still searching for his first career win after going 0-1 with a 6.61 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 9:10 K:BB in those games.
Sep 8, 2021
Chased early by Mets
Cabrera didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to the Mets, giving up four runs on one hit and four walks over 2.1 innings. He struck out one.
ANALYSIS
It was a brutal outing for the rookie, as Cabrera got only 31 of 65 pitches across the plate before getting the hook. It didn't help matters that the one hit he allowed was a two-run blast by Pete Alonso. Cabrera has a 7.11 ERA and 5:7 K:BB through his first 12.2 big-league innings, but the Marlins may be willing to leave the 23-year-old in the rotation for the rest of September to get him valuable experience.
Sep 1, 2021
Stuck with first big-league loss
Cabrera (0-1) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on seven hits over four innings as the Marlins were downed 3-1 by the Mets. He struck out two without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old got the hook after getting hit hard in the fourth inning, and Cabrera tossed only 53 pitches (37 strikes). With Trevor Rogers (personal) expected to return this week, it's not clear whether the Marlins will keep Cabrera in a starting role or move the youngster to the bullpen for September.
Aug 31, 2021
Starting in seven-inning doubleheader game
Cabrera is scheduled to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Mets, Field Level Media reports.
ANALYSIS
Elieser Hernandez will get the "start" for the first game of the twin bill, which is the resumption of a game that was suspended with one out in the top of the first inning back on April 11. Since the nightcap will be a seven-inning game, Cabrera's odds of factoring into any decision should increase, since he'll likely be pitching for a larger percentage of the game than if it were a normal nine-inning contest. The 23-year-old right-hander acquitted himself well in his big-league debut Aug. 26 against the Nationals, striking out two over 6.1 frames while giving up three runs on four hits and three walks.
Aug 26, 2021
Quality start in MLB debut
Cabrera didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Nationals, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Making his big-league debut, Cabrera wasn't dominant but he blanked the Nats over six innings before running out of steam and serving up two homers in the seventh. He tossed 50 of his 78 pitches for strikes, and the 23-year-old likely did enough to earn at least one more turn through the rotation until Pablo Lopez (shoulder) and Trevor Rogers (personal) are able to return to action.
Aug 25, 2021
Recalled ahead of start
Cabrera was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville ahead of Wednesday's start against the Nationals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was promoted to Triple-A Jacksonville in mid-July and will make his major-league debut at loanDepot Park on Wednesday. The right-hander logged a 3.68 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 48:19 K:BB in 29.1 innings across six starts with the Triple-A club. Bryan Mitchell was designated for assignment to make room for Cabrera.
Aug 23, 2021
Joining big-league rotation
The Marlins announced that Cabrera will be called up from Triple-A Jacksonville to start Wednesday's game against the Nationals in Miami.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old right-hander will be making his MLB debut this week after he compiled a 3.68 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 48:19 K:BB across 29.1 innings over his six starts at Triple-A upon receiving a promotion from Double-A Pensacola in mid-July. Cabrera's eye-popping strikeout rate will make him an intriguing flier in mixed leagues and NL-only formats, though he may need to demonstrate better command than he displayed at Triple-A in order to keep his ratios at acceptable levels.
Jul 13, 2021
Promoted to Triple-A
Cabrera was assigned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The right-handed prospect finally joins the Triple-A squad in Jacksonville, where he would have began his season if not for right biceps inflammation. Cabrera's most recent start at Double-A Pensacola was his worst, as he allowed four runs in 5.2 innings. He did fan seven batters for his second consecutive start, though. Cabrera made five starts for Pensacola, posting a 2.77 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 26 total innings. It remains to be seen whether the hard-throwing 23-year-old will get any action with the Marlins this year, or if he'll remain in Jacksonville to continue developing during what doesn't figure to be a contending season for the big-league club.
Jul 10, 2021
Working at Double-A for now
Cabrera (biceps) made his fourth start for Double-A Pensacola on Tuesday, working five innings and giving up two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven.
ANALYSIS
Heading into spring training, Cabrera appeared on track to open the season as a member of the Triple-A Jacksonville rotation, but right biceps inflammation nixed those plans. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in early June, and after two outings at Low-A Jupiter, Cabrera was ultimately reassigned from Jacksonville to Pensacola. Through his four outings at Pensacola, Cabrera owns an impressive 1.77 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and a 26:5 K:BB In 20.1 innings, so a move up to Triple-A could be coming in the near future.
Jun 20, 2021
Shifts rehab to Double-A
Cabrera (biceps) made his most recent rehab appearance at Double-A Pensacola on Saturday, covering 4.1 innings while striking out seven and giving up one run on two hits and one walk.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera was making the third appearance of his rehab assignment and his first with Pensacola after having made his prior two starts at Low-A Jupiter. Considering Cabrera built up his pitch count to 67 on Saturday, he could be ready to slot back into the Triple-A Jacksonville rotation during the upcoming week.
Jun 8, 2021
Pitching again Friday
Cabrera (biceps) will make another rehab start for Low-A Jupiter on Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Having impressed Sunday in his first rehab appearance, Cabrera appears to be nearing his return to Triple-A Jacksonville. The righty is one of the organization's more prized pitching prospects, so they'll surely exercise caution in timing his recovery from bicep inflammation in his throwing arm.

Makes 2021 debut at Low-A
Cabrera (biceps) pitched three scoreless innings in his 2021 debut Sunday for Low-A Jupiter, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out three over his 37-pitch outing.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera still resides on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Jacksonville, but he may only need to make one or two more starts at a lower-level affiliate before he's formally added back to the active roster. The 23-year-old looked sharp in his first official game action of the season, pumping in 24 of his 37 pitches for strikes while permitting only a pair of singles on the day. Considered one of the top pitching prospects in the organization, Cabrera could get a look in the big leagues at some point after the All-Star break if he's able to string together a few quality outings at Triple-A once he completes his rehab assignment.

Pitches in extended spring game
Cabrera (biceps) threw 35 pitches over two innings in an extended spring training game Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
After he faced hitters in live batting practice last week, Cabrera was expected to repeat the activity this week, but the Marlins opted to turn him loose in a controlled game setting instead. Assuming Cabrera's right biceps feels fine coming out of Tuesday's outing, the Marlins could begin to etch out a minor-league rehab assignment for the right-hander. Once he's built up his pitch count for starting duty, Cabrera will likely be included in the Triple-A Jacksonville rotation.

Ready for second live BP session
Cabrera (biceps) is scheduled to throw a second live batting practice session later this week, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera experienced no setbacks with his left arm after throwing 20 pitches against live hitters Saturday, so he'll repeat the activity again before potentially beginning a minor-league rehab assignment. The Marlins will likely have the 23-year-old build up his pitch count over at least a couple outings at the lower levels of the minors before he eventually settles into the rotation at Triple-A Jacksonville.

Live BP session coming soon
Marlins manager Don Mattingly said that Cabrera (biceps) is on track to throw a live batting practice session Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald
ANALYSIS
Cabrera will get the green light to face hitters for the first time in 2021 if he's able to complete a bullpen session Tuesday without any setbacks. The Marlins have been bringing the 23-year-old right-hander along slowly since he was diagnosed with an inflamed nerve in his biceps at the onset of spring training.

Gets back on mound
Cabrera (biceps) completed a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Assuming Cabrera reports no setbacks with his right biceps coming out of the workout, he'll be in line to throw another side session Friday. Cabrera was sidelined for all of spring training due to an inflamed nerve in his biceps, but he appears to be making solid progress since initiating a throwing program in early April. He could be ready to join the Triple-A Jacksonville rotation at some point in late May.

Continues ramping up
Cabrera (biceps) has been throwing from 105 feet without issue, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera continues to increase his throwing distance since being shut down in mid-February. There remains no clear timetable for his return to game action.
Apr 12, 2021
Throwing from 75 feet
Cabrera (biceps) has been throwing from 75 feet at the Marlins' alternate training site, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera had been shut down since mid-February due to an inflamed nerve in his biceps. It's not yet clear when Cabrera will be cleared to return to game action, but the right-hander should report to Triple-A Jacksonville when he's fully healthy.

Not yet throwing
Marlins general manager Kim Ng said Monday that Cabrera (biceps) has yet to resume a throwing program, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Shortly after reporting to spring training in mid-February, Cabrera was diagnosed with an inflamed nerve in his biceps and has been shut down ever since. The injury effectively ended Cabrera's long-shot bid for a spot in the Marlins' Opening Day rotation, and given that he has yet to throw a month later, he may not be ready to go when Triple-A Jacksonville begins its season in May. A clearer timeline for Cabrera's eventual 2021 debut should emerge once he eventually resumes throwing.

Sent to Triple-A
The Marlins optioned Cabrera (biceps) to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Andre Fernandez of Sirius XM Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera has been sidelined all spring due to right biceps inflammation, ending any hope he had of making a dark-horse run at a back-end rotation spot for Miami. Assuming that he's able to overcome the biceps injury with a few more weeks of rest and rehab, Cabrera could be ready to pitch when Jacksonville begins its season in May.

Battling nerve issue
Cabrera isn't throwing to begin spring training due to an inflamed nerve in his right biceps, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old is with the team to open camp but isn't participating in throwing activities. It's unclear when Cabrera is expected to return to the mound, though the Marlins figure to remain cautious with one of their top prospects.

Joins taxi squad
Cabrera (arm) will join the Marlins' taxi squad for the team's road trips to Atlanta and New York during the final week of the regular season, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old right-hander likely would have made his big-league debut earlier this season when a team-wide COVID-19 outbreak left the Marlins short on healthy pitchers, but Cabrera wasn't available after sustaining an arm injury late in summer camp. Cabrera has moved past the injury, but with Miami's pitching staff having since returned to full strength and no more doubleheaders on the schedule this season, the team doesn't have an obvious spot in the rotation for him. Even so, the hard-throwing Cabrera could still be in the mix for a callup prior to the playoffs, as the Marlins are lacking in high-impact arms out of the bullpen and could view him as an upgrade over most of their relievers currently on the active roster.

Throwing off mound
Cabrera (arm) has started throwing off a mound but his MLB debut is not imminent, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins were buyers at the trade deadline and have not been shy about promoting top prospects this year, so if they think Cabrera can help them down the stretch, he could be an option this year. However, as one of the organization's most prized arms, Cabrera figures to be handled very carefully. It was reported in late July that Cabrera was dealing with a minor right arm injury.

Targeting late-September debut
Cabrera (arm) has begun a throwing progression at the Marlins' alternate training site in Jupiter and could be an option to join the big club in the second half of September, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabrera would have been a candidate to join the Marlins earlier this month after the team had 18 players test positive for COVID-19, including multiple starting pitchers. Unfortunately for Cabrera, the right arm injury he developed late in summer camp prevented him from earning a callup. The Marlins don't view the arm issue as a long-term concern, but the 22-year-old will still be built up slowly after being shut down the past few weeks. He split time between High-A Jupiter and Double-A Jacksonville in 2019, logging a 2.23 ERA and a 116:31 K:BB in 96.2 innings.

Dealing with minor arm issue
Cabrera hasn't been throwing at the Marlins' alternate training site over the past week due to a minor right arm injury, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Miami was already without one of its starting pitchers (Jose Urena) due to a positive COVID-19 test, and the team's pitching staff could be further depleted after a surge in positive tests resulted in the postponement of Monday's home opener versus the Orioles. Cabrera would have been one of the prime candidates to fill any potential opening in the rotation, but his own injury will leave him out of the mix for the time being. The 22-year-old right-hander is viewed as one of the top arms in the Miami farm system after he submitted a 2.23 ERA and recorded 116 strikeouts over 96.2 innings between High-A Jupiter and Double-A Jacksonville in 2019.
Apr 6, 2020
Slots into Jacksonville rotation
The Marlins optioned Cabrera to Double-A Jacksonville on March 6.
ANALYSIS
One of the better young pitchers in the Marlins' farm system, Cabrera will open the 2020 season where he finished it in 2019. Miami will likely monitor Cabrera's innings count carefully in 2020, but if he can quickly replicate the success he found in his initial taste of Jacksonville last season, he could move to Triple-A Wichita before the year ends.

Brings heat in spring debut
Cabrera threw 19 of 32 pitches for strikes while consistently working in the high 90s with his fastball during his spring debut Wednesday against the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old right-hander also flashed a changeup that topped out at 94 mph as well as a slow curve that he had a little trouble locating. Cabrera is coming off a breakout campaign at High-A and Double-A, and while he may not make his big-league debut until 2021, the Marlins' No. 3 fantasy prospect could force the team's hand this summer with another strong season in the high minors.
