Dealt to San Diego
San Diego acquired De Los Santos from the Guardians on Friday in exchange for Scott Barlow.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos, 27, registered a sharp 3.18 ERA with 123 strikeouts over 119 innings during his two-year run in Cleveland. The right-hander logged 70 relief appearances in 2023 and could be a bullpen workhorse for the Padres next season.
Oct 2, 2023
Emerges as reliable reliever
De Los Santos finished the season tied for 18th in the majors with 70 appearances.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos was a trusted part of the Guardians' bullpen throughout the year, though he wavered with a 5.59 ERA in September. He tossed a scoreless inning in Sunday's season-ending 5-2 loss to the Tigers. Overall, De Los Santos posted a 3.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 62:25 K:BB over 65.2 innings while adding 16 holds, a 5-2 record and three blown saves. With Emmanuel Clase in place as closer, De Los Santos is unlikely to see ninth-inning assignments often as long as he remains with Cleveland.

Picks up win in nightcap
De Los Santos (5-2) struck out the only batter he faced and earned the win in Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader versus the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos got the last out in the top of the eighth inning, and the Guardians' offense rallied ahead in their half of the frame. He's allowed four runs over 6.2 innings in August, but he still has a solid 8:1 K:BB for the month, suggesting he's had a little bad luck. The right-hander is at a 2.84 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 46:19 K:BB while adding 13 holds over 50.2 innings this year as part of the bridge to closer Emmanuel Clase.
Aug 8, 2023
Takes loss Monday
De Los Santos (4-2) allowed two runs on two hits in one inning to take the loss Monday versus the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Starter Gavin Williams pitched seven innings of one-hit ball, but De Los Santos couldn't keep the momentum in Cleveland's favor, allowing a two-run home run to Cavan Biggio in the eighth. The homer ended a 10-inning scoreless streak for De Los Santos, who had a 9:3 K:BB with four holds in that span. The right-hander has emerged as a solid setup man for the Guardians with a 2.61 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 42:18 K:BB over 48.1 innings while adding 11 holds this season. He slots in behind Emmanuel Clase and Trevor Stephan in the Guardians' late-inning mix.
Jul 4, 2023
Collects fourth win
De Los Santos (4-1) pitched a perfect inning to earn the extra-inning win over Atlanta on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos worked the 10th inning and got some help on an outfield assist from Myles Straw to nab the potential go-ahead runner at the plate on a double play. David Fry then walked it off in the bottom of the 10th. De Los Santos has allowed just two hits while striking out five over his seven-inning scoreless streak. For the season, he's at a 2.57 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB while adding six holds and a blown save over 35 innings. He's not firmly in the high-leverage mix, but he's pitched well enough to be trusted to protect leads.
Jun 21, 2023
Secures extra-inning win
De Los Santos (3-1) struck out one without giving up a hit or a walk in a scoreless inning to earn the extra-inning win over the Athletics on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos pitched the 10th inning, and aside from a passed ball charged to catcher David Fry that moved the initial runner to third base, it was a sharp performance. Through eight appearances in June, De Los Santos has kept runs off the board five times, though a four-run meltdown versus the Red Sox on June 6 make his numbers for the month look bad. He's been effective middle reliever this year with a 3.10 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 27:13 K:BB and four holds over 29 innings.
Jun 7, 2023
Awful in first loss
De Los Santos (2-1) allowed four runs on two hits and two walks without recording an out to take the loss Tuesday versus the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos also took a blown save for failing to protect a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. It was easily his worst outing of the season -- he had a 6.2-inning scoreless streak from May 19 to June 3 and hadn't given up multiple runs in any appearance since April 9. The right-handed reliever still has a 3.52 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP, 18:10 K:BB and four holds over 23 innings this season. De Los Santos is likely to remain in a middle-reliever role.
May 2, 2023
Nabs second win
De Los Santos (2-0) earned the win Monday over the Yankees, recording two outs without allowing a baserunner.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos got the last two outs of the eighth inning, picking off Anthony Volpe at first base and getting Anthony Rizzo to ground out after replacing starter Cal Quantrill. In the ninth, the Guardians rallied for the lead, and Emmanuel Clase was able to close it out. De Los Santos has given up just three runs (two earned) over 10.1 innings this season, good for a 1.74 ERA. He also has a 1.06 WHIP, 9:5 K:BB and a hold through 11 appearances. De Los Santos isn't likely to get many save chances, but he's holding his own while seeing some high-leverage opportunities.
Apr 21, 2023
Back from paternity leave
De Los Santos was reinstated from the paternity list Friday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
After spending three days away from the team, the 27-year-old reliever is now back with the Guardians. De Los Santos holds a 1.35 ERA and 1.20 WHIP on the year across 6.2 innings, though he's made one appearance since April 9.
Apr 18, 2023
Goes on paternity leave
De Los Santos was placed on the paternity leave list by the Guardians on Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos can be away for three days as he deals with much more important matters. He holds a 1.35 ERA over seven relief appearances this season.
Apr 3, 2023
Earns extra-inning win
De Los Santos (1-0) struck out one in a perfect inning Sunday versus the Mariners, earning the extra-inning win.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos worked the ninth inning of a 5-5 game, which was his third appearance of the young season. He's picked up a 3:1 K:BB over 2.2 hitless innings so far. The right-hander was mostly limited to middle-relief assignments in 2022, but he excelled in that role with a 3.04 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 53.1 innings. He's unlikely to challenge for many saves with Emmanuel Clase, Trevor Stephan and James Karinchak in the high-leverage mix, but De Los Santos could be part of the bridge to get to the late innings.
Mar 8, 2023
Ready to return
De Los Santos is available to pitch Wednesday versus Team Mexico, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos was hampered by a hamstring issue early in spring training, but it appears he's moved beyond the injury. The right-hander will begin getting ready for the 2023 campaign. He is expected to fill a mid-leverage role in the bullpen after going 5-0 with a 3.04 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 61:17 K:BB across 53.1 innings last season.
Mar 4, 2023
Dealing with hamstring issue
De Los Santos is dealing with a hamstring injury and may not be ready for Opening Day, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos has yet to make his Cactus League debut this spring, and the severity of his injury is unknown. The right-hander enjoyed the best season of his career in 2022 with a 3.04 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 61:17 K:BB across 53.1 innings. If he can return to game action before the end of spring training, he should be considered likely to make the Opening Day roster.
Sep 30, 2022
Grabs fifth win
De Los Santos (5-0) struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the win Thursday over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos kept the deficit to one run in the eighth inning, and the Guardians flipped the score with a two-run burst in their half of the frame. He's allowed four runs in 9.1 innings in September, securing two wins and a hold across 10 appearances. The 26-year-old right-hander hasn't seen a lot of high-leverage work, but he's been effective with a 2.98 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 59:16 K:BB through 51.1 innings while adding a save and three holds.
Sep 12, 2022
Secures fourth win
De Los Santos (4-0) struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the win Monday over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos worked the seventh inning and kept the game tied at 4-4 before Amed Rosario gave the Guardians a lead in their half of the frame. In his previous appearance, De Los Santos saw a nine-inning scoreless streak end when he allowed two runs in two-thirds of an inning versus the Twins on Friday. He's been an effective reliever this year, and he now owns a 2.91 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 49:14 K:BB with one save and three holds through 46 innings.
Aug 12, 2022
Picks up third win
De Los Santos (3-0) struck out one and didn't allow a baserunner in two-thirds of an inning, earning the extra-inning win over the Tigers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos took a blown save for allowing an inherited runner to score the tying run on a fielder's choice in the ninth inning, but the Guardians regained the lead in the top of the 10th. The right-hander had been charged with one run in each of his three previous appearances. He's filled a middle-relief role for much of his time in the majors this year, pitching to a 3.22 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 40:12 K:BB while adding a save and two holds through 36.1 innings.
Jul 27, 2022
Earns second win
De Los Santos (2-0) earned the win Wednesday over the Red Sox. He allowed a hit and struck out one in 1.1 scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos benefited from the Guardians taking the lead in the ninth inning, and Emmanuel Clase locked down the one-run lead for the save. This was De Los Santos' sixth straight appearance without allowing a run -- he's covered seven innings and allowed five hits with five strikeouts in that span. The 26-year-old is quickly building trust in the Guardians' bullpen, as he owns a 2.87 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB in 31.1 innings while adding a save and two holds.
Jul 14, 2022
Covers two scoreless innings
De Los Santos allowed two hits and struck out two over two scoreless innings versus the White Sox on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Aaron Civale (wrist) lasted only one inning in his start, making this an impromptu bullpen game. De Los Santos did his part with his longest outing of the year, though he's routinely picked up four or five outs in appearances throughout 2022. The 26-year-old right-hander has pitched 3.1 consecutive scoreless innings and now sports a 3.25 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB with one save and two holds through 27.2 innings.
Jun 18, 2022
Snags first big-league save
De Los Santos walked one and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning to earn the save in Friday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander put the winning run on base with two outs in the 10th inning, but he struck out Justin Turner to end the threat. The save chance Friday fell to De Los Santos since Emmanuel Clase had converted saves on four of the five previous days and needed rest. De Los Santos has a hold and a 1-0 record to go with a steady 2.45 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB through 18.1 innings overall, though he's not expected to compete for closing duties any time soon.
Jun 10, 2022
Collects win Thursday
De Los Santos (1-0) picked up the win Thursday versus the Athletics. He allowed a hit and struck out one in two-thirds of a scoreless inning.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos has given up just one run on six hits and no walks while striking out 10 over his last nine innings. The right-hander was trusted to pitch in the eighth inning of a tied game Thursday, which shows he's become a reliable part of the Guardians' bullpen. For the season, he has a 2.35 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB across 15.1 innings.
Jun 1, 2022
Clean inning Tuesday
De Los Santos struck out one in a perfect inning in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Since he was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on May 9, he's allowed just one hit and no walks with nine strikeouts across 7.1 scoreless innings. The right-hander is still seeing mostly low-leverage work, but he's done well to post a 2.08 ERA, 0.69 WHIP and 18:5 K:BB across 13 innings this season. He's also picked up a hold in 12 appearances.
May 13, 2022
Back in majors
De Los Santos was brought up from Triple-A Columbus on Monday.
ANALYSIS
A number of scheduling changes saw the Guardians shuffling their pitching staff earlier this week. De Los Santos had previously been in the majors as a COVID-19 outbreak impacted the team before he was sent down and quickly brought back up. The right-hander will likely continue as a low-leverage bullpen arm.
May 8, 2022
Returns to minors
The Guardians optioned De Los Santos to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos wasn't going to be available for Sunday's series finale with Toronto after he worked an inning and tossed 30 pitches while giving up a run and walking three in Saturday's 8-3 loss in Game 1 of a doubleheader. As a result, the Guardians will swap De Los Santos off the 26-man active roster for Kirk McCarty, who was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
Apr 20, 2022
Contract selected by Cleveland
De Los Santos' contract was selected by the Guardians on Wednesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos signed a minor-league deal with Cleveland in early December, but he'll now join the big-league club after several pitchers were placed on the injured list for an unspecified reason Wednesday. The right-hander has made four appearances at Triple-A Columbus to begin the year and has posted a 4.91 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in 3.2 innings.
Dec 1, 2021
Signs with Guardians
De Los Santos signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos will be invited to Cleveland's major-league camp this spring after he was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis in early November. The right-hander made 33 relief appearances with the Phillies and Pirates last year and posted a 6.37 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 35.1 innings.
Nov 6, 2021
Dumped from 40-man roster
De Los Santos was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos is still just 25 years old, but he hasn't done enough to entice a team to claim him off waivers. In 65.1 career major-league innings, most of which have come in relief, he owns a 6.06 ERA, though his 27.7 percent strikeout rate in 35.1 frames this season hints at some small amount of potential despite his 6.37 ERA.
Sep 14, 2021
Recalled by Pittsburgh
De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos was claimed off waivers from the Phillies on Monday, and he'll join Pittsburgh's active roster after David Bednar (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list. The right-hander made 26 relief appearances for Philadelphia this year and posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in 28 innings.
Sep 13, 2021
Claimed by Pirates
De Los Santos was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Monday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Sunday after posting a 6.75 ERA in 28 innings this season, but it's not too surprising to see another team taking a chance on him. His underlying numbers aren't bad, as his strong 30.7 percent strikeout rate should ordinarily be enough to overcome a sub-par 10.2 percent walk rate. Given that he's still just 25 years old, it's certainly not out of the question that he eventually becomes a useful piece for the Pirates. It looks as though he'll remain in the minors for now, as Pittsburgh cleared a 40-man roster spot for him by transferring Steven Brault (lat) to the 60-day injured list but did not clear a spot on the active roster.
Sep 12, 2021
Designated for assignment
De Los Santos was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The move clears room on the 40-man roster for the Phillies to activate Andrew Knapp off the COVID-19 injured list. De Los Santos owns a 6.75 ERA in 28 innings of relief this season, though his 30.7 percent strikeout rate could compel another team to claim him.
Sep 11, 2021
Sent to Triple-A
De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
He gave up six earned runs in 2.2 innings over three appearances this month and has a 6.75 ERA on the season.
Aug 28, 2021
Picks up first win
De Los Santos (1-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and a walk while striking out one in two innings to earn the win over the Diamondbacks on Friday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos entered Friday's contest in the 10th inning and gave up a pair of runs in the frame, but he remained in the game for the 11th inning and held Arizona scoreless. The right-hander has been shuffled between the Phillies and the Triple-A club recently but has recorded a 2.16 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 8.1 innings across seven relief appearances since the beginning of August.
Aug 27, 2021
Recalled by Phillies
De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos was sent down Tuesday and allowed one run on a hit and no walks while striking out two in one inning at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday. He'll rejoin the major-league roster after Zach Eflin (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday.
Aug 24, 2021
Sent to Triple-A
De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos had been with the team for most of August, allowing one run in 6.1 innings while striking out 10 and walking two in his latest stint with the team. The strong showing was only enough to bring his season ERA and WHIP down to 5.24 and 1.61, respectively. The move clears space for Freddy Galvis to return from his quadriceps injury.
Aug 2, 2021
Recalled by Phillies
De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old was sent down Saturday, but he'll rejoin the Phillies' bullpen after Vince Velasquez (finger) was placed on the 10-day IL on Monday. De Los Santos has recorded a 6.75 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in 16 innings across 15 relief appearances this year.
Jun 26, 2021
Remains with major-league club
De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos served as the 27th man in Friday's doubleheader against the Mets, but he didn't appear out of the bullpen. He'll remain with the Phillies as part of the 26-man roster after outfielder Matt Vierling was sent down Saturday.
Jun 25, 2021
Called up for twin bill
De Los Santos was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to serve as the 27th man for Friday's doubleheader against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander had a two-day stint in the majors in mid-June, and he'll rejoin the big-league roster for Friday's twin bill. De Los Santos has appeared in four games for the Phillies this season and has allowed three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk over three innings.
Jun 14, 2021
Sent back to Triple-A
De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos' latest stint with the Phillies lasted just two days. He struck out two batters while allowing one hit in a scoreless inning of relief against the Yankees on Sunday in his lone appearance. Bailey Falter was recalled in a corresponding move.
Jun 12, 2021
Called up by Phillies
De Los Santos was recalled by the Phillies on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos made three appearances for the Phillies back in May, allowing four runs (three earned) in two innings. He'll likely be used in low-leverage spots for now. Rafael Marchan was optioned in a corresponding move.
May 14, 2021
Sent back to Triple-A
De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos made three appearances during his time with the team. He threw scoreless innings in two of them but gave up four runs without recording a single out in the other. J.T. Realmuto was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move.
May 9, 2021
Blows three-run lead
De Los Santos (0-1) allowed four runs (three earned) on two hits and walk without recording an out in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos came in on the twelfth with a three-run lead and proceeded to allow a walk, single and double to immediately tie the game before being removed. Matt Moore came on and allowed the winning run to score in what resulted in a loss and blown save. This was a rough outing for the young pitcher although he only has pitched in two games.
May 4, 2021
Joins big-league bullpen
De Los Santos' contract was selected by the Phillies on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos was designated for assignment back in August and went unclaimed on waivers. He's since seen his velocity jump a few ticks, which could make him a useful enough bullpen piece for the Phillies. He'll have to do better than his career 5.70 ERA in 30 MLB innings if he's to stick around. Cristopher Sanchez was optioned in a corresponding move.
Mar 6, 2021
Showing increased velocity
De Los Santos is showing off increased velocity this spring, touching 96 mph in an appearance Saturday against Toronto, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos' fastball averaged a modest 93.3 mph when he last appeared in the majors in 2019. He didn't get any big-league opportunities last season and wound up getting designated for assignment. He's shown very little in 30 big-league innings (three starts and nine relief appearances) thus far in his career, but he's still just 25 years old, so it's certainly possible that a jump in velocity could get him back onto the active roster as at least a middle reliever at some point this year.
Aug 14, 2020
Outrighted to alternate site
De Los Santos cleared waivers and was outrighted to the Phillies' alternate training site Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old was designated for assignment last weekend but will remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. De Los Santos ad a 7.36 ERA over 11 innings last season and has yet to appear in a game in 2020.
Aug 9, 2020
DFA'd by Philly
De Los Santos was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Sunday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old was optioned to the alternate training site Wednesday after a two-day stint in the majors, and he's now been cast off the 40-man roster. De Los Santos didn't appear in a game and had a 7.36 ERA over 11 big-league innings last season.
Aug 6, 2020
Returns to alternate site
De Los Santos was optioned to the Phillies' alternate training site after Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old was recalled Monday but will make a quick return to the alternate site with the Phillies needing to trim the roster to 28 players Thursday. De Los Santos didn't make an appearance during his brief time with the team.
Aug 3, 2020
Recalled from alternate camp
De Los Santos was recalled by the Phillies on Monday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos will join the 30-man roster for the first time this season to take the place of Reggie McClain (personal), who was placed on the three-day paternity list Monday. The right-hander is unlikely to appear in high-leverage situations and could be on track to return to the Phillies' alternate training site once McClain returns.
Jul 13, 2020
Optioned to Triple-A
De Los Santos was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
De Los Santos and Robert Stock were both moved to Triple-A as a procedural move. Manager Joe Girardi said that it doesn't change either of their chances to make the Phillies Opening Day roster.
Feb 12, 2020
Dealing with hamstring issue
De Los Santos pulled his hamstring in late January and won't throw off a mound for three more weeks, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
If De Los Santos is indeed back on the mound in three weeks, he'll still have three more weeks before Opening Day, so there's a chance he'll still be able to open the season on the active roster. That's far from guaranteed even if he's healthy, however, as he owns a 5.70 ERA in 30 career big-league innings.
