Out for regular season
The Marlins placed Perez on the 15-day injured list Saturday with left SI joint inflammation, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With just over a week left in the regular season, Perez's move to the IL will put an early end to his campaign. The 20-year-old righty will end with a 3.15 ERA and 1.13 WHIP alongside a 108:31 K:BB through 91.1 innings. If the Marlins are able to secure a playoff berth, Perez will be eligible to return prior to the start of the NLDS. Jeff Lindgren was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

Takes loss in short start
Perez (5-6) completed three innings in a loss to the Mets on Wednesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out two batters.
ANALYSIS
Perez got through a scoreless first frame before serving up a solo homer to Mark Vientos in the second. New York tacked on two more runs against the right-hander in the third, though one of them was unearned, and Perez didn't return for the fourth inning after having thrown 69 pitches. This was the rookie's shortest start of the campaign outside of a six-run disaster against Atlanta on July 1 during which he recorded only one out, and he hasn't tossed more than five frames in any of his past four appearances. Perez now holds a 3.15 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 108:31 K:BB over 91.1 major-league innings this season.

Strikes out seven in loss
Perez (5-5) took the loss Thursday, allowing three runs on five hits over 4.2 innings against the Brewers while striking out seven and not issuing any walks.
ANALYSIS
Perez got off to a solid start, striking out five of the first nine batters he faced before surrendering a leadoff double to William Contreras in the fourth, which would lead to one run coming home for Miami in the frame. The young right-hander would then go on to allow another two runs in the fifth before being relieved by George Soriano, marking the fourth time in his last seven starts that he's failed to make it through five innings. Perez has not won a start since June 25 and currently holds a 5.02 ERA in September to go along with a 16:6 K:BB.

Tosses five in no decision
Perez did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings in a 3-2 win over Philadelphia. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
A first-inning homer by Trea Turner was the fourth allowed by Perez in his last two outings, but he settled down from there in allowing just one more run over his final four frames. Following tossing 78 innings in 2021 and 77 innings last year in the Marlins' farm system, Perez has now thrown for 120.1 innings this year between Triple-A and the majors, though it's hard to imagine the Marlins will shut him down amid a playoff push. He'll carry a 2.90 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 99 strikeouts in 83.2 big-league innings into his next start, which is scheduled to take place mid-week against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

Hit hard in no-decision
Perez came away with a no-decision in Friday's 8-5 extra-innings win over the Nationals, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
All three runs off the 20-year-old phenom came on solo shots, as Perez served up a leadoff homer to CJ Abrams in the first inning before Lane Thomas and Travis Blankenhorn took him deep in the third. Perez has completed at least five innings only twice in five starts since rejoining the big-league rotation in August, but he's posted a respectable 3.91 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 34:8 K:BB through 25.1 innings over that stretch. The rookie right-hander will likely make his next start at home next week against the Dodgers.

Fans seven in quality start
Perez came away with a no-decision Saturday in the Marlins' 3-2 loss to the Nationals, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
The rookie right-hander was impressive, generating 14 swinging strikes on only 76 pitches, but he left the mound with the score tied 1-1. Perez has delivered back-to-back quality starts after a couple bumpier outings in his return to the big-league rotation, putting to rest for now any worries the 20-year-old could be tiring -- Perez is up to 110.2 innings this season between Triple-A and the majors, a big jump from his 77 innings in the minors in 2022. Miami will likely try to find extra rest for him down the stretch, but Perez's next outing still lines up for a road series next weekend and a potential rematch with the Nationals.

Strikes out 10 in quality start
Perez allowed two hits and struck out 10 without walking a batter over six scoreless innings, taking a no-decision in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Perez was fairly efficient with 90 pitches (60 strikes) in his third start back from a stint in the minors. The right-hander had allowed four runs in each of his last two outings before Saturday's effort, which was arguably his best of the campaign. The 20-year-old is now at a 2.91 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 83:21 K:BB through 68 innings over 14 starts. He's projected for a home start versus the lowly Nationals next week.

Pulled after four
Perez did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks over four innings in a 8-7 victory over the Yankees. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Perez struggled for the second consecutive start since his return from the minors, with the biggest damage coming by way of a two-run home run off the bat of Anthony Volpe in the fourth. A lack of command didn't help Perez, who fell behind against 12 of the 19 batters he faced. Perez' ERA now stands at 3.19 with a 1.15 WHIP and 73 strikeouts in 62 innings. He's lined up for a matchup next weekend in LA against the Dodgers.

Shaky in return
Perez (504) allowed four runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings Monday, striking out seven and taking a loss against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Perez tossed two scoreless frames before the Reds plated a run in the third inning. He later served up back-to-back home runs in the fourth. It was Perez's first MLB outing since July 6 and he was handed his third straight loss. During that stretch, he's allowed 11 runs through 11 frames, raising his season ERA to 2.79. Perez is lined up to face the Yankees at home this weekend.

Activated ahead of start
The Marlins recalled Perez from Double-A Pensacola ahead of his scheduled start Monday in Cincinnati, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Perez is back in the big leagues and will make his first appearance since July 6 after the Marlins elected to stash him in the minors for the past month in an effort to limit his workload in his age-20 campaign. Per McPherson, Perez's start Monday is expected to be one of 10 the Marlins are tentatively planning on having him make over the rest of the season, provided Miami still remains in the thick of playoff contention by late September/early October. After turning a dazzling 2.36 ERA while striking out 61 batters over 53.1 innings over his first 11 big-league starts, Perez looks worthy of an immediate activation this week for any fantasy managers that had been holding him.

Could make up to 10 more starts
The Marlins' plans for Perez the rest of the season would allow him to make up to 10 more starts in the majors, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The team is monitoring the 20-year-old's workload carefully, as he's already thrown more innings this season than he did in either 2022 or 2021, but Perez is set to rejoin Miami's rotation Monday after spending about a month in the minors resting and then ramping back up. Whether he actually makes all 10 starts will depend on his performance, as well as whether the Marlins stay in the wild-card hunt, but those investing in the young phenom can have some confidence that he'll see enough action to move the needle for their fantasy squads. Through his first 11 big-league outings, Perez posted a 2.36 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 61:17 K:BB in 53.1 innings.

Likely to rejoin big club Monday
The Marlins are expected to recall Perez from Double-A Pensacola to have him start Monday in Cincinnati, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Perez was optioned to Double-A shortly before the All-Star break in an effort for the Marlins to manage his workload, but after returning to action July 26 and making two abbreviated starts for Pensacola, he looks ready to rejoin the big-league rotation. Even though he's set to return to Miami, the 20-year-old right-hander will likely have some starts skipped and could transition to a relief role at some point. As long as he's a member of the rotation, however, he'll still worthy of a speculative pickup in any leagues where he may have been dropped. Perez turned in a 2.36 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 61:17 K:BB in 53.1 innings through his first 11 big-league starts prior to being sent out to Double-A.

Makes abbreviated start at Double-A
Perez made a start for Double-A Pensacola last Wednesday, tossing 2.1 innings and striking out five while allowing two runs (one earned) in a 4-3 win over Mississippi. According to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald, general manager Kim Ng said the Marlins are "creating a path for him to come back" to the big club, but no specific timeline was provided for when he'll be called up from Double-A. "We'll take it day by day and see where the staff is, see where he is, and just make sure that we monitor this r
ANALYSIS
The Marlins sent Perez back to the minors shortly before the All-Star break, despite the fact that he had arguably been Miami's top starter through his first 11 big-league outings (2.36 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 61:17 K:BB in 53.1 innings). The demotion was designed to better manage the 20-year-old's innings count, which now sits at 86.2 for the season between the majors and minors. Considering Perez's youth and long-term importance to the organization as well as the fact that he never threw more than 78 innings in any of his previous pro seasons, the Marlins will likely be selective with his usage moving forward. Though the talented righty will be back in the big leagues at some point as the Marlins push for a wild-card spot, Ng left it open for interpretation whether Perez would be deployed as a starter or reliever once he's called back up. Even if the Marlins are willing to open a spot back up in the rotation for Perez, he could be on a shorter leash with regard to his pitch count compared to Miami's other starte

Optioned to Triple-A
Perez was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Perez will head to Jacksonville ahead of the All-Star break and could remain in the minors for the time being. His performance on the mound this year has been stellar, posting a 2.36 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 61 strikeouts over 53.1 innings in 11 starts with Miami, but the team appears to be taking a cautious approach with the the 20-year-old's workload. The team has yet to announce who will replace Perez in their starting rotation, though Edward Cabrera (shoulder) is set to return shortly after the break.

Bounces back with quality start
Perez (5-3) took the loss Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over six innings against the Cardinals. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
After retiring only one batter in his last start while giving up six runs, Perez rebounded with six innings of one-run ball. Thursday's outing should allow fantasy managers to breathe a sigh of relief and rest assured that Perez's nightmare start was nothing more than a fluke. Outside of his horrific performance against Atlanta, he's given up less than two runs in every appearance since May 28 (seven starts) and has struck out six or more batters five times across that stretch. Perez will have over a week to rest before his next start, which is projected to come during a rematch with the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Gets education in Atlanta
Perez (5-2) took the loss Saturday, coughing up six runs on seven hits in just one-third of an inning as the Marlins fell 7-0 to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
MLB's hottest offense provided some harsh lessons for the 20-year-old righty, as Ronald Acuna and Ozzie Albies led off the game with back-to-back solo shots, and all told five of the seven hits off Perez went for extra bases. Over his prior six starts however, the young phenom had allowed just one run with a 38:9 K:BB in 33 innings. Another outing or two like this might make it easier for the Marlins to send Perez back down to the minors and manage his workload, but with the team currently sitting in the first wild-card spot in the NL, they could be faced with some tough decisions on how to handle him in the second half. For now, Perez lines up for one more start before the All-Star break, which is likely to come at home next week against the Cardinals.

Blanks Pirates
Perez (5-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing four hits and one walk over six scoreless innings against the Pirates. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
Perez tossed another gem, holding Pittsburgh scoreless through six innings while tying his season high in strikeouts. After giving up seven runs over his first three MLB appearances (14 innings) Perez has let just one batter cross the plate since (33.0 innings). Though Perez may be given some time off leading up to the All-Star break to help prevent late-season fatigue, he should still be considered one of the more valuable arms in fantasy.
