Heads to bench Wednesday
Pereira is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Oswaldo Cabrera, Estevan Florial and Aaron Judge will start across the outfield for the visiting Yankees. Pereira went 0-for-3 on Tuesday at Toronto and has slashed just .156/.244/.208 across his first 86 major-league plate appearances this year.

Back in lineup Monday
Pereira (hamstring) is starting in left field and batting ninth Monday against the Diamondbacks in his return to the lineup.
ANALYSIS
It's the first start since Sept. 14 for Pereira, who has been dealing with a nagging hamstring issue. Worth noting is that it's a rainy forecast in New York on Monday, so it's possible the rookie outfielder's return will be pushed back again. For now, though, he's back in there following a long absence.

Remains out Sunday
Pereira (hamstring) isn't in the Yankees' lineup Sunday against Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Pereira hasn't appeared in a game since Sept. 14 as a result of his hamstring injury, but the Yankees are seemingly holding out on putting him on the injured list. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will start in left field Sunday and bat sixth.

Out of lineup again Friday
Pereira (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
It's the eighth straight start Pereira has missed due to a hamstring injury. He is still listed among the Yankees' reserves Friday, so evidently the team isn't ready to put Pereira on the injured list yet. Oswaldo Cabrera is again handling left field.

Sits again with hamstring injury
Pereira (hamstring) is out of the lineup again Thursday versus the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Pereira was supposed to get regular playing time with the Yankees down the stretch, but he has been sidelined for a full week now because of a low-grade hamstring strain. Oswaldo Cabrera, Estevan Florial and Jake Bauers will start across the outfield Thursday.
Sep 20, 2023
Remains out Wednesday
Pereira (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's tilt against the Blue Jays, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Pereira hasn't played in nearly a week because of a hamstring issue, although he has avoided the injured list to this point. Oswaldo Cabrera will receive another start in left field as Pereira continues to recuperate.
Sep 19, 2023
Still out Tuesday
Pereira (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed earlier in the day that Pereira could require a stint on the injured list due to a hamstring injury which has kept him out of action for a few days. The team hasn't made a move yet with the rookie outfielder, though, so perhaps that's a good sign. He'll need at least another day to recuperate, however. Oswaldo Cabrera is in left field again Tuesday.
Sep 19, 2023
IL possible due to hamstring injury
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on Jomboy Media's Talkin' Yanks podcast Tuesday that Pereira could be placed on the 10-day injured list due to a hamstring injury.
ANALYSIS
The hamstring injury offers an explanation as to why Pereira hasn't played since last Thursday. Theoretically, Pereira could make it back before the end of the season if he ultimately does require a trip to the IL. Realistically, it probably wouldn't happen with so few days left on the calendar and the Yankees all but officially eliminated from playoff contention. The rookie outfielder has struggled mightily during his first taste of big-league action, slashing just .143/.241/.186 with a 39.2 percent strikeout rate. Oswaldo Cabrera has started in left field for the Yankees each of the last three games and could continue to see regular time there with Pereira out.
Sep 16, 2023
Sitting again
Pereira is not in Saturday's lineup against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Pereira will sit for the second straight game, with Oswaldo Cabrera and Estevan Florial getting the nod over him in the outfield. Pereira has struggled in his limited big-league sample, maintaining just a .143 average with a 39.2 percent strikeout rate across 79 plate appearances.
Sep 15, 2023
Taking seat Friday
Pereira is out of the lineup Friday at Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Oswaldo Cabrera, Estevan Florial and Aaron Judge are starting across the outfield for the visiting Yankees. Pereira, 22, has batted just .143/.241/.186 with 31 strikeouts across his first 79 major-league plate appearances.
Sep 14, 2023
Takes seat for nightcap
Pereira is out of the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader at Boston.
ANALYSIS
Pereira went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the Yankees lost 5-0 in the first half of the twin bill. The 22-year-old is showing a weak .143/.241/.186 batting line through his first 79 major-league plate appearances. Giancarlo Stanton, Estevan Florial and Oswaldo Cabrera will start across the outfield for New York in the nightcap with Aaron Judge occupying the DH role.
Sep 13, 2023
Not in Wednesday's lineup
Pereira is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game at Boston.
ANALYSIS
Pereira has a .194/.306/.258 slash line and 36.1 percent strikeout rate through 10 games in September and will receive Wednesday off after he started the previous three contests. Oswaldo Cabrera will take over in left field and bat eighth.
Sep 13, 2023
Swipes two bags in nightcap
Pereira went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two stolen bases in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
After going 0-for-3 in the matinee but scoring a run after being hit by a pitch in the sixth inning, Pereira put his speed to better use in the nightcap. The 22-year-old rookie has had a tough start to his big-league career with a .450 OPS and a 38.7 percent strikeout rate through 75 plate appearances, but his 54.1 percent hard-hit rate and 4-for-4 performance on the basepaths highlight his electric tools.
Sep 11, 2023
Not part of Monday's lineup
Pereira is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Pereira owns just a .406 OPS against right-handers since joining the Yankees, so he will be held out in favor of the lefty-swinging Jake Bauers with right Kutter Crawford starting for Boston on Monday.
Sep 8, 2023
Sitting Friday
Pereira isn't in the Yankees' lineup Friday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Pereira is slashing just .151/.224/.208 across 58 plate appearances to begin his major-league career, and he'll get a day off Friday to regroup. Oswaldo Cabrera will fill in as New York's left fielder and bat ninth.
Sep 6, 2023
Taking seat Wednesday
Pereira is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Tigers, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Pereira has struggled mightily at the beginning of his major-league career, going just 7-for-49 with two extra-base hits in his first 14 games. He'll recharge his battery Wednesday while Oswaldo Cabrera patrols left field for the Yankees.
Sep 3, 2023
Showing improvement at plate
Pereira went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 5-4 win over Houston.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees appear to be committed to Pereira as their primary left fielder down the stretch, as he's been in the lineup there every day since being called up from the minors Aug. 22. The 22-year-old struggled initially, going 3-for-28 with 13 strikeouts over his first eight contests but has shown some positive growth since, going 3-for-14 with three RBI, two thefts and a more tolerable four punchouts in his past four contests. New York is in last place in the AL East and 8.5 games out of a wild-card spot, so it wouldn't be surprising if the team continues to roll with Pereira for the remainder of the campaign.
Aug 31, 2023
Nabs first career steal
Pereira went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-2 victory over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Pereira was credited with an RBI as a result of being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the first inning, and he plated another run with a single in the third. The rookie also collected his first big-league steal in that frame, though he was stranded at second base. Pereira hasn't exactly had many attempts to swipe a bag since being called up to the majors -- he entered Wednesday having reached base just six times over 31 plate appearances.

Starting in LF in MLB debut
The Yankees selected Pereira's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Manager Aaron Boone said in an interview on the Talkin' Yanks podcast by Jomboy Media that Pereira will start in left field Tuesday against the Nationals in what will be his major-league debut. The skipper added that while Pereira is capable of playing all three outfield spots, his immediate role will be as the team's regular left fielder. Pereira has batted .300/.373/.548 with 18 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 81 games between Double-A Somerset and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season.
Aug 21, 2023
Set to be called up Tuesday
Peraza is expected to be called up by the Yankees prior to Tuesday's game against the Nationals, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Neither Double-A nor Triple-A pitchers have had many answers for Pereira this season, and the 22-year-old appears primed to play in the big leagues for the first time. Assuming Pereira gets the call he will have a chance to play regularly in left field, a position five different Yankees have already started at this month.

Shining since promotion to Triple-A
Pereira is slashing .529/.579/.765 with a home run, seven RBI and five runs since being moved up to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 4.
ANALYSIS
Pereira earned the promotion by slashing .291/.362/.545 with 10 long balls and 31 RBI over 46 contests with Double-A Somerset. The outfielder debuted at the Triple-A level with a flourish, smashing a three-run homer in his first at-bat, and has logged at least one hit in each of his four games with the RailRiders thus far. Pereira is on the Yankees' 40-man roster, and there's a reasonable chance he'll make his MLB debut at some point this season.
Jun 27, 2023
Healthy at Double-A
Pereira has returned from his undisclosed injury and is slashing .342/.410/.671 with seven home runs, four steals and a 27.7 percent strikeout rate in his last 20 games at Double-A Somerset.
ANALYSIS
He missed a little over three weeks at the start of June, although he was never placed on the minor-league injured list. Pereira has huge raw power and above-average speed, which makes him an exciting fantasy prospect despite his elevated strikeout rate.
Jun 16, 2023
Nearing return at Double-A
Pereira (undisclosed) has not played since May 30 but is expected back later this week, Matt Kardos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pereira hit .310/.371/.575 with six home runs and five steals in 23 games in May before ceasing play. He never landed on the injured list, but it sounds like he was nursing a minor injury and had been testing it out on the field before recent games.
Apr 24, 2023
Settling down after K-heavy start
Pereira has a 36.5 percent strikeout rate and is slashing .239/.327/.413 in 13 games at Double-A.
ANALYSIS
He has cut the strikeouts over the last week after fanning at a 46.9 percent clip in his first 30 at-bats of the season. Pereira has been a streaky hitter at times and hasn't gone on a heater yet this year, as his .174 ISO would be his worst mark since 2019, but he has gone two-for-two on stolen-base attempts.
Mar 6, 2023
Sent to minor-league camp
Pereira was reassigned to Double-A Somerset following Monday's spring training game against Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Pereira appeared in seven exhibitions while up with the Yankees during spring training and went 4-for-12 with a pair of doubles, three walks, one stolen base and three runs scored. He's on track to begin the 2023 campaign at Double-A.
Sep 13, 2022
Back on IL at Double-A
Pereira was placed on the 7-day injured list with an undisclosed injury Tuesday at Double-A Somerset.
ANALYSIS
Pereira hasn't played in a week and it seems like his season is likely over. The 21-year-old outfielder hit .283/.341/.504 with five home runs and a 37:9 K:BB in 29 games at Double-A.
Aug 17, 2022
Healthy again at Double-A
Pereira (undisclosed) has gone 3-for-16 with a triple, a walk, two RBI and two runs in four games since returning to Double-A Somerset's lineup Friday.
ANALYSIS
Pereira was withheld from the starting nine for just under two weeks due to an unspecified issue, but Somerset never placed him on its 7-day injured list. The 21-year-old has gotten off to a slow start at Double-A since receiving a promotion from High-A Hudson Valley, as he's slashing .226/.293/.321 with a 37.9 percent strikeout rate in his first 13 games with Somerset.
Aug 10, 2022
Working back from injury
Pereira hasn't played for Double-A Somerset since July 30 due to an unspecified injury, Mike Ashmore of the Somerville Courier News reports.
ANALYSIS
Somerset initially described Pereira's removal from the July 30 game as being related to cramps, but his absence from the lineup for more than a week suggests the 21-year-old is working through an injury. Fortunately, Pereira's injury is more of a day-to-day than a long-term situation, as Ashmore relays that the outfield prospect has resumed on-field work. Pereira is slashing .243/.317/.324 through his first nine games at Somerset since getting a July 13 call-up from High-A Hudson Valley.
Jul 13, 2022
Moves up to Double-A
Pereira was promoted to Double-A Somerset on Wednesday, Matt Kardos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pereira showcased his potential at High-A Hudson Valley to begin the regular season. Although his power numbers were slightly down early in 2022, he'll be rewarded with a promotion to test his skills against a higher level of competition. He appeared in 73 games at Hudson Valley this year and slashed .274/.354/.455 with nine homers, 55 runs, 43 RBI and 19 runs.
May 4, 2022
Steady stick in High-A
Pereira is hitting .307/.388/.413 with a homer and eight steals on 12 attempts across 19 games for High-A Hudson Valley.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old outfielder has already attempted as many steals this year as he did all of last season (49 games), which is perhaps unsurprising because his power stroke hasn't shown up yet. This is a kid who impressively slugged 20 homers last year, with 14 of them coming in 27 High-A games, so it's a little curious that he's not doing so thus far this season. In fact, he only has one extra-base knock across the last 13 games, though a steady flow of singles has buoyed his numbers. The Yankees will probably wait for his home-run-hitting ability to reemerge before they bump him up to Double-A.
Nov 19, 2021
Protected from Rule 5 draft
Pereira was added to the Yankees' 40-man roster Friday.
ANALYSIS
Pereira's 2021 season went about as good as it possibly could have. He was promoted to Low-A after three games at the complex level and went on to notch a 195 wRC+ and 159 wRC+ at Low-A and High-A, respectively. His hard-hit rates back up the success he had, but he will need to cut down on the strikeouts as he moves up the ladder. He struck out 61 times in just 221 plate appearances last season.
