Ashcraft had to cut his live batting practice short Monday after he was struck in the foot by a comebacker off the bat of TJ Friedl, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Facing hitters for the first time this spring, Ashcraft wasn't able to complete a full workout after taking a line drive to the foot. Ashcraft (5-6) took the loss Wednesday, allowing seven runs on four hits and five walks over 5.1 innings against the Cubs. He struck out four.

After beginning the game with a 1-2-3 first inning, Ashcraft ran into trouble in the second, allowing three consecutive batters to reach base before giving up a three-run homer to David Bote. The left-hander mostly cruised through the next three innings before allowing four of the first five batters to reach base in the sixth and eventually being charged with four more runs. Ashcraft has now allowed four or more runs in each of his last three starts to go along with seven walks and seven strikeouts.

The 24-year-old righty is expected to face the Cubs at home next week to finish off his rookie campaign.

After Rowdy Tellez reached on a one-out single, Hunter Renfroe crushed a hanging slider over the wall in left field to put the Reds down 2-1. The right-hander then proceeded to hit Luis Urias with a pitch two batters later before giving up back-to-back singles, which drove in another two runs. Ashcraft certainly looked a bit rusty in his return from the injured list and will look for better results in his next start, which should come next week against the Cubs.

Despite the three-run outing, Ashcraft picked up a quality start, his second of the month and his eighth of the season and will take a 3.96 ERA into his next outing.

Ashcraft did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings in a 4-2 win over the Brewers. He struck out three.

It took the Reds' rookie 102 pitches to get through 5.2 innings, but he emerged relatively unscathed as he surrendered just one run, a home run off the bat of Willy Adames. Ashcfraft struggled in June with three starts in which he allowed more than three earned runs, but he has bounced back, allowing more than three runs in just one out of six starts since the beginning of July. He looks to keep the momentum going against the Cubs next week.

Over his last two outings, Ashcraft has struck out 14 batters across 11.1 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday's rematch with Miami.

Ashcraft owns a 4.70 ERA and a 40:15 K:BB across 59.1 innings on the season.

Ashcraft and the Reds won't face the Cardinals on Sunday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in St. Louis, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

As a result of the postponement, Ashcraft will have to wait until after the All-Star break to make his 11th start of the season. The rookie, who has gone 4-2 with a 4.45 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 54.2 innings in the big leagues this season, is expected to be part of a six-man rotation coming out of the break with Tyler Mahle (shoulder) trending toward a return from the injured list for the Reds' first series of the second half.

It is worth keeping an eye on the 24-year-old to see if his strikeout rate in the majors can improve to where it was in the minors. Ashcraft had a 9.2 K/9 over 72.1 innings in Double-A last season. Ashcraft is tentatively expected to start at St. Louis on Sunday in the Reds' final game before the All-Star break.

Ashcraft (3-1) took a five-inning loss to the Brewers on Saturday, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking two.

Ashcraft was tagged for six earned runs across five frames Saturday in his first loss of the year. He threw 61 of 98 pitches for strikes and only gave up two walks. This was Ashcraft's second rough outing in a row, with a total of 10 earned runs in his last 9.2 innings. The righty has added nearly two runs to his ERA since the beginning of June, giving him a 3.51 ERA for the season. Ashcraft will look to turn things around in his next appearance.

The 24-year-old has a 1.14 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB across 23.2 frames through the first four outings of his MLB career.

Ashcraft (2-0) earned the victory, striking out five in seven innings while allowing a run on four hits and a walk in an 8-1 win Thursday over Washington.

Ashcraft was a ground ball machine Tuesday, getting 14 groundouts as he dominated the Nationals' lineup. Josh Bell's seventh-inning solo homer was the only blemish for the 24-year-old. He has stifled opposing lineups over his first three starts and has a 1.53 ERA to show for it. After striking out more than a batter an inning across three minor-league seasons, the rookie has fanned only nine batters in his first 17.2 major-league innings. His next start will likely be in the middle of next week against Arizona.
