Beginning physical therapy
Ashcraft (toe) was scheduled to begin physical therapy this week, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft underwent surgery in September to relieve a stress reaction in his big right toe. Physical therapy appears to be the first step in the recovery process, and he is expected to be 100 percent by the time spring training rolls around.
Sep 20, 2023
Underwent successful surgery
Ashcraft (toe) had successful surgery Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft underwent surgery to relieve a stress reaction in his big right toe. He is expected to be fully recovered by spring training. Prior to suffering the injury, the starter was having a solid second half with a 2.81 ERA over 10 starts.
Sep 19, 2023
Surgery set
Ashcraft (toe) will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft will have surgery to repair a stress reaction in his right big toe. During the Reds' second-half slide, Ashcraft, who had a 2.81 ERA over 10 starts since the All-Star break, was the team's most dependable starter. The right-hander posted a 4.76 ERA over 26 starts and 145.2 innings.
Sep 18, 2023
Shifts to 60-day IL
The Reds transferred Ashcraft (toe) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The move to the 60-day IL officially ends Ashcraft's season, which comes as little surprise after reports emerged over the weekend that the right-hander would soon undergo surgery to address a stress reaction in his right big toe. Ashcraft is expected to be in store for a relatively normal offseason and should be fully cleared in advance of spring training. He finished the 2023 campaign with a 7-9 record, 4.76 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 111:52 K:BB over 145.2 innings across 26 starts with Cincinnati.
Sep 17, 2023
Will undergo season-ending surgery
Ashcraft will undergo season-ending surgery on his right big toe Tuesday, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft landed on the injured list earlier this month and hoped to return but surgery removes that possibility. The Reds move forward with just one pitcher from the Opening Day rotation -- Hunter Greene -- and three rookies. Ben Lively, who battled through a pectoral injury and recently returned from the COVID-19-related injured list, is also projected to start games.
Sep 2, 2023
Officially on injured list
The Reds placed Ashcraft on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a stress reaction in his right big toe.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft pitched five innings Friday against the Cubs before leaving the game to get an MRI on his toe. He'll now officially miss multiple turns through the rotation and be replaced on the roster by Chasen Shreve, who was selected from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.
Sep 2, 2023
IL stint likely
Reds manager David Bell said Saturday that Ashcraft (toe) will likely be placed on the injured list, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft was taken out of his start Friday against the Cubs due to a sore toe, and it appears he will be forced to miss multiple turns through the rotation. His absence will be a big blow to a Reds rotation that is already without three pitchers due to COVID-19.
Sep 1, 2023
Battling sore toe
Ashcraft was dealing with a sore toe during his start Friday against the Cubs, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft gave up three runs during Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader and left the game after five innings to get an MRI. More information regarding the severity of his injury will be available once the results come back, but Ashcraft should be considered day-to-day for the time being.
Aug 27, 2023
Yields two runs in no-decision
Ashcraft allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk over 6.2 frames in Sunday's loss to Arizona. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft gave up one run through six innings before coughing up a solo shot to Lourdes Gurriel in the seventh. Ashcraft has allowed three or fewer runs in 11 consecutive starts, posting a 2.39 ERA during that span. His season ERA still sits at 4.73 alongside a 105:51 K:BB through 140.2 frames. Ashcraft's next start is projected to be at home against the Cubs.
Aug 23, 2023
Fans 10 in win
Ashcraft (7-8) earned the win Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings against the Angels. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft struggled mightily with the long ball Tuesday, surrendering a trio of solo homers to Brandon Drury, Mike Moustakas and Logan O'Hoppe, respectively. However, he was dominant outside of the home runs, giving up no runs on two hits across seven innings of work. The outing was Ashcraft's first career start with double-digit strikeouts and marked his 10th straight appearance allowing three or fewer runs. Over that stretch, Ashcraft owns a 2.35 ERA and a 48:20 K:BB across 65 innings. He's lined up to finish out his two-start week with a road game against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Aug 21, 2023
Reds-Angels postponed
Ashcraft and the Reds won't play the Angels on Monday due to inclement weather in Anaheim, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
With Tropical Storm Hilary bringing heavy rainfall to Southern California, the Angels and Reds will wait until Tuesday to begin their three-game series. Monday's postponement will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday. Expect the Reds to move Ashcraft back one day in the pitching schedule to take the hill Tuesday.
Aug 15, 2023
Goes seven innings in loss
Ashcraft (6-8) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings against the Guardians. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
After allowing a pair of runs in the opening inning, Ashcraft blanked the Guardians over his subsequent six frames before allowing a third run in the seventh. However, the Reds failed to generate any run support in a 3-0 loss. Ashcraft hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start since June 24 -- he's pitched to a 2.17 ERA over his last nine outings. Overall, the 25-year-old right-hander has a 4.89 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP and 90:48 K:BB across 23 starts (127 innings) this season. Ashcraft's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Angels in his next outing.
Aug 10, 2023
Allows one run over seven frames
Ashcraft did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and one walk over seven innings in a 5-4 loss against the Marlins. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft surrendered a leadoff home run to Josh Bell in top of the fourth but was otherwise dominant, allowing only two other hits in the game, which came in the first inning. The right-hander threw 17 first-pitch strikes while it was his third start this season in which he allowed just three hits. Ashcraft has now given up two earned runs or fewer in eight consecutive starts and has allowed one run or fewer in five of those eight starts. With Thursday's performance he lowered his season ERA to 4.95 and has a 12:3 K:BB through two August starts.
Aug 4, 2023
Loses lead in eighth inning
Ashcraft did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over eight innings in a 6-3 loss against Washington. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft allowed just one run through seven and was a pitch away from escaping the eighth inning with a 3-1 lead, but Joey Meneses smashed a two-run homer to tie the game on Ashcraft's 100th pitch of the night. With that, Ashcraft's night ended on a bit of a sour note, but it was still another positive outing overall for the right-hander. Ashcraft has now turned in six quality starts in his last seven turns, bringing his ERA down to 5.18 for the season.
Jul 30, 2023
Quiets Dodgers
Ashcraft (6-7) allowed five hits and struck out two without walking a batter over six shutouts innings to earn the win Sunday over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft continued a solid stretch that has seen him allow no more than two runs in any of his last six starts. This was his fifth quality start in that span, and it's also the second time he's tossed a scoreless appearance. The 25-year-old right-hander is at a 5.31 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 76:43 K:BB through 105 innings across 20 starts, but his recent pitching certainly makes him worth a look in most fantasy formats. Ashcraft is projected to make his next start at home versus the Nationals.
Jul 25, 2023
Solid again Monday
Ashcraft allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out eight batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Milwaukee on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft tied a season high with four walks in the outing, but he avoided issuing multiple free passes in any one frame. The right-hander balanced the mild wildness with a campaign-best eight strikeouts, and he fell just two outs shy of a fifth straight quality start. Though Ashcraft has had some major blow-ups this season -- a big factor in his poor overall 5.64 ERA -- he's been pitching well since the end of June, posting a 2.10 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 30 innings covering his past five starts.
Jul 20, 2023
Continues strong pitching Wednesday
Ashcraft (5-7) earned the win over San Francisco on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters over six-plus innings.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft breezed through four scoreless frames before the Giants tagged him for a run in the fifth. The right-hander tossed a 1-2-3 sixth but surrendered a solo homer to Blake Sabol leading off the seventh, which led to his removal. Though his outing ended on that sour note, it was another strong performance overall by Ashcraft, as he notched his fourth straight quality start. Over that span, he's recorded a standout 1.82 ERA over 24.2 frames, though his mediocre 14:9 K:BB across the quality-start streak is fair reason to question whether it is sustainable.
Jul 14, 2023
Quality start in loss
Ashcraft (4-7) took the loss Friday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over six innings against the Brewers. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
The two strikeouts do little to excite, but Ashcraft was efficient and kept the ball on the ground, resulting in his third straight quality start. He was outdueled by Corbin Burnes and company on the other side. Ashcraft has allowed a total of three earned runs over his last three starts spanning 18.2 innings after straying from his groundball ways and battling severe gopheritis in May and June. He should still be considered a volatile option given the lack of whiffs. Up next is a home start against the Giants.
Jul 6, 2023
Solid again in win
Ashcraft (4-6) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one run on seven hits and three walks over six innings against the Nationals. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
After allowing a run in the first inning, Ashcraft rebounded to blank the Nats over his final five frames en route to his first win since May 28. The 25-year-old Ashcraft has now delivered consecutive quality starts after pitching to a 12.82 ERA in his previous eight outings. He'll head into the All-Star break with an unsightly 6.28 ERA with a 1.59 WHIP and 61:35 K:BB across 16 starts (81.2 innings)
Jul 1, 2023
Rebounds in no-decision
Ashcraft was not involved in the decision Friday, when he allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven over 6.2 innings in a 7-5 extra-innings win over San Diego.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft picked up an impotent offense and kept the team in the game until Cincinnati's bats got going over the final innings. It was a promising outing for the right-hander, who was knocked around in his last start and had an ugly 12.82 ERA in the previous eight outings. Ashcraft looked like the confident hurler seen earlier in the season, when he posted 2.00 ERA and averaged six innings over his first six starts.
Jun 25, 2023
Knocked around in return
Ashcraft (3-6) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing six runs on 10 hits and striking out two batters over four-plus innings.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft faced a tough test in his return from a stint on the injured list due to a calf injury, and he was unable to contain Atlanta's potent offense. The right-hander served up a season-high three homers and yielded 10 total hits for the third time this season. Ashcraft hasn't pitched more than four innings in any of his three starts in June, giving up 19 earned runs 10.2 frames during the month. His ERA now sits at an ugly 7.17 on the campaign.
Jun 24, 2023
Activated from injured list
The Reds reinstated Ashcraft (calf) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start Saturday against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
After being placed on the injured list June 9 due to a comebacker that hit his left calf, Ashcraft will rejoin the Reds' rotation just in time to face one of the top offenses in baseball. Ashcraft made a start against Atlanta earlier this season, allowing two earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven batters through six frames. Alan Busenitz was optioned to Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.
Jun 23, 2023
Starting Saturday
Ashcraft (calf) will return from the injured list and start Saturday's game against Atlanta, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft landed on the IL after taking a comebacker to his left calf June 9, and he officially return to the Reds' rotation in the minimum amount of time. The 25-year-old righty holds a 12.46 ERA and 2.17 WHIP across his last five starts, and he will face an Atlanta lineup that leads the majors in team OPS (.814) in his return.
Jun 19, 2023
On track for this weekend
Ashcraft (calf) is expected to rejoin the Reds' rotation during their series this weekend against Atlanta, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The Reds have an off day Thursday and then will slot Ashcraft in sometime this weekend in place of the injured Hunter Greene (hip). Ashcraft is first eligible for activation Friday and it appears he will skip a rehab assignment. The big right-hander is working his way back from a left calf contusion.
Jun 15, 2023
Almost fully healed
Ashcraft is nearly fully healed from the left calf contusion which sent him to the injured list, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft will test out the calf with some running soon and, assuming he gets through that with no issues, will be cleared to throw off a mound. The right-hander could throw three bullpen sessions before making a return sometime around when he's first eligible June 24.
Jun 9, 2023
Placed on IL with calf injury
Ashcraft was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a left calf contusion.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft had indicated after taking a comebacker off the calf Thursday versus the Dodgers that he would be fine for his next turn in the rotation. However, given his struggles, it makes sense to give him some down time to get healthy and also work on things. With Ashcraft on the shelf, Andrew Abbott should remain in the Reds' rotation indefinitely.
Jun 8, 2023
Fine after comebacker to leg
Ashcraft (calf/knee) indicated Thursday that he'll be fine for his next turn in the rotation, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft took a comebacker to the calf in the third inning of his start Thursday afternoon against the Dodgers and said his knee locked up on him in the aftermath. He was eventually pulled from the game, having allowed three earned runs in 2.2 innings as his season ERA rose to 6.78. The 25-year-old currently lines up to start next week in Kansas City, but he should be avoided in fantasy and might be at risk of a demotion.
Jun 8, 2023
Early exit after comebacker
Ashcraft was removed from his start Thursday versus the Dodgers after taking a comebacker off his leg, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft was struck by a ball off the bat of Austin Barnes in the top of the third inning. He tried to gut it out through another handful of hitters but looked to be in discomfort all the way up until the point when Reds manager David Bell finally yanked him. The 25-year-old pitched well over the first two frames but ultimately got charged with three earned runs on three hits and two walks in 2.2 innings. He also plunked two batters and finished with only one strikeout.
Jun 4, 2023
Forgettable outing Saturday
Ashcraft (3-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing 10 runs on nine hits and four walks over four innings in a 10-8 loss against the Brewers. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft allowed a season-high 10 earned runs, marking the fourth time over his past six outings that he's given up at least seven. He's also surrendered eight home runs during that span. It's certainly been a disappointing stretch for the right-hander, who posted a 2.00 ERA and 1.17 over his first six starts (36 innings), but he's not in danger of being demoted anytime soon, especially while the Reds deal with a couple injuries in their rotation. However, things don't get any easier for Ashcraft, who's scheduled to pitch next during the finale of a three-game set versus the Dodgers.
May 29, 2023
Back in win column versus Cubs
Ashcraft (3-3) earned the win over the Cubs on Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft picked up his first win since April 15 after needing 92 pitches to grind through five innings while receiving plenty of run support from his teammates. His only troublesome inning was the second. He issued a walk and allowed a base hit before surrendering a three-run blast to Patrick Wisdom to put the Cubs ahead 3-2. It wasn't a dominant outing by any means, but it was a step in the right direction for Ashcraft. He racked up six strikeouts for the first time since April 10, allowed less than six hits for the first time since April 26 and gave up just three runs after being pummeled for 14 runs over his last 10 innings. The 25-year-old now sits at a 5.55 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 47:24 K:BB over 58.1 innings and lines up to face the Brewers next weekend.
May 23, 2023
Collapses against Cards
Ashcraft (2-3) took the loss Tuesday, surrendering seven runs on 10 hits over five innings as the Reds fell 8-5 to the Cardinals. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The second-year right-hander was taken deep twice by Paul Goldschmidt as part of the St. Louis barrage. Ashcraft has been tagged for at least seven runs in three of his last four starts, serving up five homers in 17.1 innings over that stretch and sending his ERA soaring from 2.00 to 5.57 during his disastrous May. He'll try to regain his footing in his next outing, likely to come on the road this weekend against the Cubs.
May 17, 2023
Hit hard in loss
Ashcraft (2-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and a walk over five innings against the Rockies. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft held the Rockies scoreless through four innings before imploding in the fifth, where he allowed five runs, followed by another two in the sixth. The 25-year-old Ashcraft has allowed 19 runs (18 earned) in his last three starts (12.1 innings) after he pitched to a 2.00 ERA over his first six outings. His ERA is now up to 4.84 with a 1.43 WHIP and 36:21 K:BB this season.
May 13, 2023
Strikes out three in no-decision
Ashcraft did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings during a 7-4 win over the Marlins. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft tossed three scoreless innings to start the game but allowed at least one run in each of his final three frames and was pulled in the sixth after allowing back-to-back two-out hits, including a solo home run to Peyton Burdick. It was a solid bounce-back outing for Ashcraft, who gave up eight runs in his previous start and was forced to leave the game in the second inning after being struck in the leg by a comebacker. Despite the terrible performance versus the White Sox, Ashcraft still boasts modest numbers (3.95 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 33:20 K:BB) across his first eight starts (43.1 innings).
May 11, 2023
Ready to make start Friday
Ashcraft (leg) is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Marlins in Miami, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft's most recent start Sunday against the White Sox came to an end in the second inning when he was struck in the leg by a comebacker, but he didn't suffer any sort of injury that will cause him to miss a turn through the rotation. The second-year righty had maintained a tidy 2.00 ERA and 1.17 WHIP through his first six starts of the season before he recorded just five outs against the White Sox while allowing eight earned runs on six hits and two walks.
May 7, 2023
Exits after being hit by comebacker
Ashcraft was removed during the second inning of Sunday's game against the White Sox after being struck in the leg by a comebacker, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was headed for an early exit regardless of the injury, as he ended up being charged with eight runs while he recorded just five outs. It was Ashcraft's worst start of the year by a wide margin, as he had given up just eight runs combined in his first six outings. The 25-year-old's status will likely be updated following Sunday's contest, but for now he should be considered day-to-day.
May 3, 2023
Sharp in no-decision
Ashcraft allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out three over six innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
In his first start after a stint on the bereavement list, Ashcraft turned in a positive outing. It was his fifth quality start through six appearances this season. The 25-year-old was also able to limit an opponent to one walk for just the second time this year. He's pitched to a 2.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 27:16 K:BB through 36 innings. Ashcraft still needs to display stronger control, but he's been effective so far. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Mets next week.
Apr 30, 2023
Reinstated from paternity list
Ashcraft was reinstated from the paternity list by the Reds on Sunday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft missed three days while away from the club. His spot on the 26-man roster became open after the Reds placed Fernando Cruz on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain. Ashcraft is scheduled to start Tuesday against the Padres in San Diego.
Apr 27, 2023
Goes on bereavement leave
Ashcraft was placed on the bereavement list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft pitched Wednesday versus the Rangers and will presumably be back in time for his next turn in the Reds' rotation. The 25-year-old boasts a 2.10 ERA with 24 strikeouts through 30 innings (five starts) this season.
Apr 26, 2023
Solid again Wednesday
Ashcraft allowed two runs on three hits and four walks over six innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Rangers. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Through five starts this year, Ashcraft has yet to allow more than two runs while pitching at least five innings. The 25-year-old right-hander is 2-0 with an impressive 2.10 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 24:15 K:BB. While an 11.3% walk rate and .235 BABIP against would indicate that Ashcraft is due for some regression, he's been able to limit hard contact thus far. He's tentatively lined up to face the Padres on the road in his next outing.
Apr 21, 2023
Settles for no-decision Friday
Ashcraft didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Pirates, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander tossed 51 of 89 pitches for strikes in his shortest outing so far this season, but he left the game with the score tied 2-2. Walks are beginning to pile up for Ashcraft -- he's issued multiple free passes in three straight starts, and he sports a 21:10 K:BB through 24 innings, but he'll still take a sharp 1.88 ERA into his next appearance, likely to come next week at home against the Rangers.
Apr 16, 2023
Tosses six shutout innings in win
Ashcraft (2-0) earned the win Saturday, allowing zero runs on four hits and four walks over six innings against Philadelphia. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft is on a roll to start off the season. The 25-year-old righty has given up just three runs in 19 innings pitched, good for a 1.42 ERA. Additionally, the Alabama native has a 1.16 WHIP, and has given up just one home run thus far. While it's still early, this is as good of a start as fantasy managers could've hoped for.
Apr 10, 2023
Punches out seven
Ashcraft allowed two runs on six hits and three walks over six innings during Monday's loss to Atlanta. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old righty rolled through five shutout frames before Sean Murphy broke the scoreless tie with a sixth-inning double. Ashcraft was then charged with a second run in the seventh and was in line for a loss before the Reds forced extra innings in the ninth. He's sporting a 2.08 ERA with a 13:4 K:BB through two starts to begin the season. Ashcraft is projected to face the Phillies at home this weekend.
Apr 8, 2023
Start pushed to Monday
Ashcraft won't start Sunday at Philadelphia as previously scheduled and will instead pitch Monday in Atlanta, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
There doesn't appear to be an injury situation, Ashcraft will still receive an extra day of rest between starts. Connor Overton, who was originally slated to pitch Monday, will move up a day to start Sunday's series finale with the Phillies.
Apr 2, 2023
Fires seven strong frames
Ashcraft (1-0) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over seven innings against the Pirates. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander consistently worked from ahead in the count during his season debut, throwing first-pitch strikes to 19 of the 26 batters he faced. A solo home run off the bat of Bryan Reynolds accounted for the lone tally against him. Ashcraft will have a tougher test for his next turn through rotation next weekend in Philadelphia.
Mar 23, 2023
New grip on slider
Ashcraft struck out 10 "B-Team" Padres in Wednesday night's spring training start over six innings. After the start he exuded about the progress he has made with his slider, a pitch he's using a new grip for, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "Everything is working how we want," Ashcraft said. "The slider is the best it's ever been for me."
ANALYSIS
Between the reports of Ashcraft hitting 100 mph and now his new-and-improved slider, he's graduated to the level of last-round dart throw intrigue. He obviously needs to face tougher competition, but he now has 25 strikeouts in 17.1 spring training innings.
Mar 15, 2023
Set to start Friday
Ashcraft (calf) is listed as Cincinnati's probable starter for Friday's spring game against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old was removed from his most recent start Sunday with calf cramps, but it appears the issue won't affect his next turn through the rotation. Prior to his exit, Ashcraft got his fastball up over 100 mph, though he'll need more than just velocity to take a step forward in 2023 after he posted a 4.89 ERA and 71:30 K:BB across 105 innings as a rookie last year.
Mar 14, 2023
Increased velocity
Before he left Sunday's spring training start with calf cramps, Ashcraft was reaching 100 mph on his fastball and getting more swings and misses, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite a fastball that averaged 97.2 mph last year, Ashcraft only managed a 15.3% strikeout rate and 8.8% swinging strike percentage. Ashcraft already threw hard, so added velocity alone won't be sufficient to guarantee better results this season. However, the reports of added swings-and-misses before his calf cramp were promising.
Mar 13, 2023
Should make next start
Manager David Bell said Monday that he expects Ashcraft (calf) to be available to start the next time his turn comes up in the Reds' Cactus League rotation, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft exited his most recent start Sunday against the Dodgers with what the team labeled as calf cramps, and after further evaluation, his injury doesn't appear to be any more serious than that. Assuming Ashcraft is able to complete a bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday without incident, he should be ready to pitch in a game as soon as Friday.
Mar 12, 2023
Exits with calf cramps
Ashcraft was removed from Sunday's spring start against the Dodgers due to calf cramps, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
It's encouraging news for the 25-year-old, who exited Sunday's start during the third inning with an athletic trainer. Ashcraft should be able to make a quick return to the mound and will likely remain on track to begin the season as Cincinnati's No. 3 starter.
Mar 12, 2023
Pulled with apparent injury
Ashcraft was removed from Sunday's Cactus League game against the Dodgers with an apparent leg injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old started off with two scoreless frames but faltered during the third inning before spiking a pitch in the dirt and grabbing at his leg. The specifics of the situation remain unclear, but any absence at this point would likely affect Ashcraft's availability for the Opening Day rotation, for which he's already been named the No. 3 starter.
Mar 9, 2023
Will open as No. 3 starter
Reds manager David Bell announced Thursday that Ashcraft will begin the season as the team's No. 3 starter, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Hunter Greene was named the Opening Day starter for the Reds on Thursday afternoon, and now Bell adds that Nick Lodolo will pitch the second game of the regular season with Ashcraft following in the third. Ashcraft, 25, worked to a 4.89 ERA and 71:30 K:BB over his first 105 major-league innings (19 starts) in 2022. He's trying to add more swing-and-miss this spring.
Mar 1, 2023
Focus on slider
Ashcraft allowed two runs over two innings on three hits, a walk, a wild pitch and a hit batter in his spring training debut against the A's on Wednesday, striking out two. A primary focus for Ashcraft was to work on his slider, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft threw his slider just over 27% of the time last season in his rookie year, with better results than with is cutter or sinker. "It's come a long way. I threw 10 out of 15 [sliders] over the plate for strikes. It's hard to complain," Ashcraft said. "We've still got a little bit to go with it. We're going to see what happens with it."

Starting Wednesday
Ashcraft will start Wednesday's Cactus League contest against the Athletics, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft dealt with an ankle injury early in spring camp, but the right-hander was able to throw a bullpen without issue on Friday, and the 25-year-old will be on the bump against the A's on Wednesday. In his rookie season, Ashcraft posted a 4.89 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 71:31 K:BB over 105 innings of work. He's expected to pitch in the middle of the Cincinnati rotation to open the 2023 campaign.

Throws live BP without issue
Ashcraft (ankle) threw a successful round of live batting practice Friday in Reds camp, Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft made an early exit from his last round of live BP after taking a comebacker off his right ankle, but the 25-year-old hasn't skipped a beat with his spring training throwing progression. He'll soon begin appearing in Cactus League games as he readies himself for a prominent spot in Cincinnati's season-opening starting rotation.
Feb 21, 2023
No limitations with ankle
Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that Ashcraft (ankle) won't have any setbacks to his spring throwing progression, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft took a line drive off his right ankle while throwing live batting practice Monday in Reds camp, but he was walking normally soon after and should be ready to hop back on a mound later this week. The 25-year-old right-hander figures to open the 2023 campaign as the No. 3 starter in Cincinnati.
Feb 20, 2023
Early exit deemed precautionary
Ashcraft said that he was removed early from his live batting practice session Monday for precautionary reasons after he was struck on the foot by a comebacker, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander noted that he's OK and is walking completely normal after getting hit by a line drive, which apparently didn't result in him experiencing anything more than minor bruising or soreness to his foot. Ashcraft looks on track to remain on his usual throwing progression this spring as he looks to stake his claim to a spot in Cincinnati's Opening Day rotation.
Feb 20, 2023
Struck by comebacker Monday
Ashcraft had to cut his live batting practice short Monday after he was struck in the foot by a comebacker off the bat of TJ Friedl, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Facing hitters for the first time this spring, Ashcraft wasn't able to complete a full workout after taking a line drive to the foot. According to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, Ashcraft didn't look to be in significant pain before leaving the mound, so he may have been pulled for precautionary reasons. If healthy, the hard-throwing right-hander should have an inside track to a spot in the Cincinnati rotation after posting a 4.89 ERA (4.20 FIP), 1.42 WHIP and 71:30 K:BB across 105 innings as a rookie.

Lit up for seven runs
Ashcraft (5-6) took the loss Wednesday, allowing seven runs on four hits and five walks over 5.1 innings against the Cubs. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
After beginning the game with a 1-2-3 first inning, Ashcraft ran into trouble in the second, allowing three consecutive batters to reach base before giving up a three-run homer to David Bote. The left-hander mostly cruised through the next three innings before allowing four of the first five batters to reach base in the sixth and eventually being charged with four more runs. Ashcraft has now allowed four or more runs in each of his last three starts to go along with seven walks and seven strikeouts.
Oct 1, 2022
Tagged with six runs
Ashcraft (5-5) allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks over 2.2 innings Friday, striking out one and taking a loss against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft was charged with three runs in each of the second and third innings during Friday's brutal outing. It was his shortest start since June 30 when he coughed up seven runs in just 2.1 frames. Over his last four starts, Ashcraft has posted an unsightly 6.86 ERA, raising his season number to 4.52 across 18 starts. The 24-year-old righty is expected to face the Cubs at home next week to finish off his rookie campaign.

Allows four runs in loss
Ashcraft (5-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits over four innings against the Brewers. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft was able to keep the Brewers off the board for the first three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. After Rowdy Tellez reached on a one-out single, Hunter Renfroe crushed a hanging slider over the wall in left field to put the Reds down 2-1. The right-hander then proceeded to hit Luis Urias with a pitch two batters later before giving up back-to-back singles, which drove in another two runs. Ashcraft certainly looked a bit rusty in his return from the injured list and will look for better results in his next start, which should come next week against the Cubs.
Sep 24, 2022
Activated prior to start
Ashcraft (biceps) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list prior to Saturday's start against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft was on the injured list for just over a month due to biceps soreness, but he recently completed a rehab assignment in which he allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits and a walk while striking out 11 in 5.2 innings over two appearances. He'll have the chance to make a few more starts for the Reds down the stretch as long as he can remain healthy.
Sep 20, 2022
Set to return Saturday
Ashcraft (biceps) is scheduled to start Saturday against the Brewers, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft has missed a month of action with his injury, but his absence is expected to last only a few more days. He will be looking to pick up where he left off, having posted a 2.67 ERA over the five starts he made before landing on the injured list.
Sep 15, 2022
Next rehab outing set
Ashcraft (biceps) allowed two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and a walk over three innings Thursday for Double-A Chattanooga, and he's scheduled to continue his rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Louisville, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old threw 53 pitches in his first rehab start Thursday, and he apparently came out of the outing okay since his next start is already on the calendar. It was Ashcraft's first game action in nearly a month due to the biceps soreness, and he should continue building up his workload Monday.
Sep 14, 2022
Begins rehab assignment
Ashcraft (biceps) was sent on a rehab assignment to Double-A Chattanooga on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
He has been sidelined for four weeks with biceps soreness, but it seems like he could rejoin the big-league rotation before the end of the season. Ashcraft had a 2.67 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 24:8 K:BB in 33.2 innings over his last five starts before landing on the IL.
Sep 9, 2022
Close to rehab assignment
Ashcraft (biceps) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft has been on the injured list since Aug. 23 due to biceps soreness, but he threw a bullpen session Tuesday and tossed live batting practice Friday. Assuming he feels good after facing hitters, the right-hander will likely join a minor-league affiliate next week and should be in the mix to return from the IL for the final few weeks of the regular season.
Sep 6, 2022
Bullpen session on tap
Ashcraft (biceps) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old resumed a throwing program last week after he landed on the injured list with biceps soreness Aug. 23, and he's now progressed to mound work. Assuming all goes well Tuesday, Ashcraft is tentatively slated to throw live batting practice Friday.
Aug 29, 2022
Throwing again
Ashcraft (biceps) was spotted playing catch on the field Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The activity is a sign that Ashcraft isn't being shut down entirely after landing on the 15-day injured list just under a week ago, but he'll still need to advance to mound work and facing hitters in live batting practice before a potential return date will come into focus. Ashcraft is one of five starting pitchers currently residing on the IL, with Hunter Greene (shoulder), Robert Dugger (shoulder), T.J. Zeuch (back) and Connor Overton (back) also on the mend from injuries.
Aug 23, 2022
Sidelined with biceps soreness
The Reds placed Ashcraft on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right biceps soreness.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft had been confirmed to start Wednesday's game in Philadelphia, so the biceps soreness may have cropped up in his most recent bullpen session following his last outing Friday in Pittsburgh. Right-hander T.J. Zeuch was one of three players called up from Triple-A Louisville, and he could enter the rotation Wednesday if he isn't needed out of the bullpen Tuesday. Ashcraft had gotten off to a nice start to the second half, having posted a 3.29 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 32:11 K:BB across 38.1 innings coming out of the All-Star break.
Aug 19, 2022
Punches out eight
Ashcraft yielded three runs on nine hits and a walk over 6.2 frames in Friday's loss to Pittsburgh. He struck out eight and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft rolled through five shutout frames without much resistance before the Pirates broke through in the sixth inning. The 24-year-old rookie tied a season best with eight strikeouts while firing 62 of 85 pitches for strikes. He's sporting a 3.97 ERA with a 64:23 K:BB through 16 starts. Ashcraft is projected to start in Philadelphia next week.
Aug 14, 2022
Strikes out four in loss
Ashcraft (5-3) took the loss against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out four and walking three over 6.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft threw 65 of 102 pitches for strikes in Saturday's contest, and struggled to keep runners of the basepaths, resulting in three earned runs across 6.1 frames. The righty has allowed four or more hits in all but one of his 15 games this season, resulting in 92 hits across 86.1 innings to go along with 56 strikeouts. Despite the three-run outing, Ashcraft picked up a quality start, his second of the month and his eighth of the season and will take a 3.96 ERA into his next outing.
Aug 7, 2022
Allows one run in no-decision
Ashcraft did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings in a 4-2 win over the Brewers. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
It took the Reds' rookie 102 pitches to get through 5.2 innings, but he emerged relatively unscathed as he surrendered just one run, a home run off the bat of Willy Adames. Ashcfraft struggled in June with three starts in which he allowed more than three earned runs, but he has bounced back, allowing more than three runs in just one out of six starts since the beginning of July. He looks to keep the momentum going against the Cubs next week.
Aug 3, 2022
Falls just short of complete game
Ashcraft (5-2) picked up the win in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Marlins, allowing one unearned run on five hits over 8.1 innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
A Kyle Farmer error in the sixth inning led to the only damage against Ashcraft, and the rookie hurler got a chance to go for his first career complete game before getting lifted after 107 pitches (75 strikes) following a one-out double by Jesus Aguilar in the ninth. It was Ashcraft's second straight quality start and seventh of the year, and he'll carry a 4.12 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 49:17 K:BB through 74.1 innings into his next outing.
Jul 29, 2022
Strikes out six in no decision
Ashcraft did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks over 6.2 innings against the Marlins. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft allowed three or fewer earned runs for the eighth time this season, but the Reds' bullpen was unable to hold onto the two-run lead after the right-hander left the game. Over his last two outings, Ashcraft has struck out 14 batters across 11.1 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday's rematch with Miami.
Jul 23, 2022
Surrenders four runs
Ashcraft allowed four earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out eight across 4.2 innings Friday against the Cardinals He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft was given five runs of support but he squandered the chance to earn a win by surrendering a two-run home run to Paul Goldschmidt in the fifth inning. On the positive side, he did manage to match his season-high in strikeouts while generating 16 called strikes and 13 swinging strikes across 112 total pitches. Ashcraft owns a 4.70 ERA and a 40:15 K:BB across 59.1 innings on the season.
Jul 17, 2022
Reds-Cardinals postponed Sunday
Ashcraft and the Reds won't face the Cardinals on Sunday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in St. Louis, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
As a result of the postponement, Ashcraft will have to wait until after the All-Star break to make his 11th start of the season. The rookie, who has gone 4-2 with a 4.45 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 54.2 innings in the big leagues this season, is expected to be part of a six-man rotation coming out of the break with Tyler Mahle (shoulder) trending toward a return from the injured list for the Reds' first series of the second half.
Jul 13, 2022
Gives up three in no-decision
Ashcraft gave up three earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out three over five innings in a 4-3 win over the Yankees on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft had to battle against the tough Yankees lineup, but he did enough to keep his team and within striking distance of the comeback victory in the ninth. The rookie right-hander thew 106 pitches over five frames to tally his highest number of pitches thrown this season. Ashcraft has a power cutter which averages around 98 mph, but he has only struck out 32 batters in 54.2 innings this season. It is worth keeping an eye on the 24-year-old to see if his strikeout rate in the majors can improve to where it was in the minors. Ashcraft had a 9.2 K/9 over 72.1 innings in Double-A last season. Ashcraft is tentatively expected to start at St. Louis on Sunday in the Reds' final game before the All-Star break.
Jul 7, 2022
Quality start wasted
Ashcraft didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-3 extra-inning loss to the Mets, allowing two runs on 10 hits over six innings. He struck out one without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
It was far from a dominant outing for the rookie, but Ashcraft danced around danger despite dealing with traffic on the basepaths in every inning, and he exited the game in line for his fifth win of the year until the Cincinnati bullpen melted down. Instead, he settled for his fifth quality start in his first nine trips to the mound in the majors. Ashcraft will take a 4.35 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB through 49.2 innings into his next start.
Jul 1, 2022
Bulldozed by Cubs
Ashcraft (4-2) took the loss against the Cubs on Thursday, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one batter over 2.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft allowed a run in the first inning, but that turned out to be his best frame of the contest. The rookie yielded four hits and a walk that resulted in five runs in the second inning and allowed three of the four batters he faced in the third to reach base before he was mercifully removed for a reliever. This was easily his worst start as a major-leaguer, as he failed to pitch into the fifth inning for the first time and surrendered a season-worst seven runs. Ashcraft has allowed two or fewer runs in five of his eight starts this season, but the three other outings have been so poor that his ERA sits at an unsavory 4.53.

Goes eight innings in win
Ashcraft (4-1) earned the win during Friday's 4-2 victory over San Francisco, allowing two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in eight innings.
ANALYSIS
Coming off two subpar starts, Ashcraft regained his previous form with the best outing of his short career. The 24-year-old was staked to an early lead and cruised through seven easy frames while recording an impressive eight strikeouts despite averaging just 3.2 per start through his first six turns. Manager David Bell opted to stick with Ashcraft for the eighth and the young righty showed poise by inducing a double play and permitting just one run after putting two runners on with none out. He now sports a 3.27 ERA and 1.09 WHIP and is projected to pitch again midweek against the Cubs.
Jun 19, 2022
Gives up six runs in loss
Ashcraft (3-1) took a five-inning loss to the Brewers on Saturday, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking two.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft was tagged for six earned runs across five frames Saturday in his first loss of the year. He threw 61 of 98 pitches for strikes and only gave up two walks. This was Ashcraft's second rough outing in a row, with a total of 10 earned runs in his last 9.2 innings. The righty has added nearly two runs to his ERA since the beginning of June, giving him a 3.51 ERA for the season. Ashcraft will look to turn things around in his next appearance.
Jun 12, 2022
Labors through 4.2 innings
Ashcraft allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out two in 4.2 innings, taking a no-decision versus the Cardinals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft served up a two-run home run to Nolan Arenado in the third inning to account for half of the damage on his line. He also allowed a run to score on a wild pitch in the first and gave up a ground rule double to Albert Pujols before exiting in the fifth. While 71 of his 99 pitches were strikes, Ashcraft was easy to get hits off of -- the nine hits he allowed were more than double his previous season high, and he posted just a 22 percent CSW (called strikes plus whiffs) rate. The 24-year-old has done more good than bad through five starts, posting a 2.22 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB across 28.1 innings with a 3-0 record. He'll look to produce more command next weekend in a home start versus the Brewers.
Jun 8, 2022
Fires six shutout frames
Ashcraft (3-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Diamondbacks after allowing three hits with four strikeouts and zero walks over six scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
The rookie right-hander threw 51 of his 76 pitches for strikes and generated 10 swinging strikes while holding Arizona to only three baserunners. Ashcraft has now won his past three starts, and he's given up only a single run over 19.1 innings during that stretch. The 24-year-old has a 1.14 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB across 23.2 frames through the first four outings of his MLB career.
Jun 2, 2022
Excellent, again, in win
Ashcraft (2-0) earned the victory, striking out five in seven innings while allowing a run on four hits and a walk in an 8-1 win Thursday over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft was a ground ball machine Tuesday, getting 14 groundouts as he dominated the Nationals' lineup. Josh Bell's seventh-inning solo homer was the only blemish for the 24-year-old. He has stifled opposing lineups over his first three starts and has a 1.53 ERA to show for it. After striking out more than a batter an inning across three minor-league seasons, the rookie has fanned only nine batters in his first 17.2 major-league innings. His next start will likely be in the middle of next week against Arizona.
May 29, 2022
Next start coming Thursday
Ashcraft is scheduled to start Thursday's game versus the Nationals in Cincinnati, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Even with Mike Minor (shoulder) set to return from the 10-day injured list during the upcoming week, Ashcraft looks as though he'll temporarily stick in the rotation over Vladimir Gutierrez, who isn't scheduled to start any of the Reds' next five games. Ashcraft will be rewarded with a second straight turn through the rotation and his third start of the season with Cincinnati after he blanked the Giants over 6.1 innings Friday en route to claiming his first big-league win.
May 28, 2022
Secures first big-league win
Ashcraft (1-0) earned the win Friday against the Giants after allowing four hits with one strikeout and two walks over 6.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old generated only five swinging strikes on 92 pitches, but he kept San Francisco off the board by giving up only four singles. Ashcraft surrendered two runs over 4.1 innings during MLB debut last weekend, and he was able to pick up his first win in his second outing Saturday. The right-hander may have done enough to stick around in Cincinnati's rotation for another turn, however, the impending return of Mike Minor (shoulder) from the injured list could result in him being sent back to Triple-A Louisville.
May 27, 2022
Contract selected again
Ashcraft's contract was selected by the Reds on Friday. He'll take the hill for his second career start Friday against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft made his big-league debut last week against the Blue Jays and held his own but wasn't particularly impressive, striking out three batters in 4.1 innings while giving up two runs on four hits and a pair of walks. He returned to the minors after that start, as he'd merely been up to replace a handful of players who hit the restricted list after rendering themselves unable to cross the Canadian border due to their decision not to vaccinate themselves against COVID-19, but it's possible he could make his case to stick around longer this time around.
May 23, 2022
Returns to minors
Ashcraft returned to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft was one of four players who joined the Reds for their weekend series in Toronto, replacing a group of players who evidently couldn't cross the border into Canada due to their decision not to vaccinate themselves against COVID-19. Ashcraft got the chance to start Sunday and allowed two runs in 4.1 innings in his MLB debut. He'll return to Louisville for now with the team back on the American side of the border.
May 22, 2022
Yields two runs in debut
Ashcraft allowed two runs on four hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in Sunday's win over Toronto. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Ashcraft allowed an RBI single to Matt Chapman in the second inning followed by Bo Bichette's RBI groundout in the third. The 24-year-old has started seven games with Triple-A Louisville this season prior to making his MLB debut Sunday. He threw 76 pitches and leaned heavily on a mix of sliders and sinkers, with the latter touching 99 miles per hour. Ashcraft could get another turn in the rotation as the Reds are dealing with several injured starters.
May 21, 2022
Slated to debut as Sunday's starter
Ashcraft will start Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Connor Overton was initially scheduled to start Sunday's series finale in Toronto, but he was scratched due to back soreness. After Ashcraft's contract was selected by the Reds on Friday, he'll make his first major-league appearance while starting on short notice. The severity of Overton's injury isn't yet clear, but it's possible that Ashcraft remains in the rotation if Overton requires a trip to the injured list. Over seven starts at Triple-A Louisville this year, Ashcraft posted a 2.48 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 32.2 innings.
May 20, 2022
Promoted to big leagues
Ashcraft had his contract selected by the Reds on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Cincinnati placed multiple players on the restricted list Friday who can't travel to Canada, and Ashcraft will join the club to provide bullpen depth. The 24-year-old has started seven games at Triple-A Louisville this season and has a 2.48 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 30:17 K:BB over 32.2 innings, but he's not expected to see time in the rotation in Toronto with Luis Castillo, Hunter Greene and Connor Overton lined up to start for the Reds.
