Re-signs with Atlanta
Atlanta re-signed Holmes to a minor-league contract Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
It's not clear whether Holmes was given an invite to spring training as part of the deal. The former top prospect pitched well in a full-time move to relief in 2023 with Triple-A Gwinnett, holding a 3.54 ERA and 74:26 K:BB over 61 frames. He's likely headed back to Gwinnett to start 2024.

Joins Atlanta on MiLB deal
Holmes signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Wednesday, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was released by the A's in late July and will now receive a chance with another organization. Holmes appeared in 28 games at the Triple-A level before being let go and had an 8.27 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 26:14 K:BB over 37 innings.

Heads to minors
The Athletics optioned Holmes to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Holmes was one of eight players sent to the Athletics' Triple-A affiliate in the team's latest round of roster cuts. During his last minor-league season in 2019, Holmes split time between Las Vegas and Double-A Midland, accruing a 3.23 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 86.1 innings.

Strong spring continues
Holmes was credited with a save in a Cactus League win over the Padres on Friday, allowing one hit and hitting a batter over two scoreless innings while recording four strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old has logged a trio of two-inning outings thus far, giving up just two hits and two walks while ringing up six strikeouts overall and allowing just one earned run. Holmes got up to Triple-A Las Vegas in 2019, albeit for just a 4.2-inning sample, posting a 1.93 ERA following a 3.31 figure across 81.2 frames at Double-A Midland earlier that same season. Given his impressive showing thus far, Holmes could be in the mix for an Opening Day bullpen roster spot.
