Closes out fourth save of season
McArthur picked up the save in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Yankees. He allowed one hit while striking out four over two scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
McArthur has emerged as a closing option for the Royals in the last month as he now leads the team in saves since September 1. Sunday's game marked the longest save of his career so far, with McArthur working two innings without trouble to shut the door. The rookie right-hander has improved his ERA in each month and has not allowed a run in his last 16.1 innings. He concludes his debut season with a 4.63 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 23.1 innings with 23 strikeouts. His solid performance to end the season will hopefully improve his chances of starting the year with the big club in 2024.

Secures third save
McArthur picked up the save in Sunday's 6-5 victory over the Astros. He allowed one hit and no walks while striking out one over a scoreless inning.
ANALYSIS
McArthur appears to be in a share for the Royals' closer job as he and Taylor Clarke split three saves this weekend in a sweep of the Astros (two for McArthur and one for Clarke). They have both earned preference over Carlos Hernandez, who has earned holds in consecutive games, setting up both Clarke and McArthur. The 27-year-old McArthur has not allowed a run in 13.1 innings since being recalled Sept. 1. He makes an intriguing pick up for saves as the Royals finish the season against the Tigers and Yankees.

Notches five-out save
McArthur allowed a hit over 1.2 scoreless frames Friday. He struck out two and earned a save against Houston.
ANALYSIS
McArthur entered a 7-5 game in the eighth inning and had no trouble recording the final five outs to secure the win. He's picked up his first two career saves over the last week and is currently riding a 12.1-inning scoreless streak. McArthur allowed seven runs in one inning in his MLB debut June 28; in 18.1 innings since then, he's registered a 2.45 ERA with a 17:1 K:BB.

Collects first career save
McArthur picked up the save in Monday's 6-4 victory over the Guardians. He pitched a clean inning and struck out one.
ANALYSIS
After picking up his first career win on Saturday, McArthur added a save to his ledger on Monday. With both Taylor Clarke and Carlos Hernandez being unavailable due to throwing in two of the three previous days, McArthur was summoned for the save on Monday after the Royals mounted a comeback in the eighth inning. Clarke and Hernandez should continue to be manager Matt Quatraro's preferred options for save situations going forward.

Notches win over Houston
McArthur (1-0) struck out two over 1.1 perfect innings to earn the win Saturday over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Collin Snider surrendered a game-tying home run to Jose Altuve, but McArthur was able to prevent the Astros from pulling ahead in the seventh inning. The Royals gained the lead in their half of the frame, and McArthur wound up with his first big-league win. While he's had a couple of rough outings this year, the right-hander has allowed just one hit while striking out seven over 8.2 scoreless innings since he was recalled from Triple-A Omaha when rosters expanded at the start of September.

McArthur will serve as the Royals' opener Saturday at Toronto, Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Zack Greinke is expected to enter behind him as the bulk pitcher. McArthur, 26, has spent the majority of this season at the Triple-A level and carries a rough 10.13 ERA through his first 10.2 major-league innings.

Recalled from Omaha

Sent back to minors
McArthur was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
McArthur served as an opener for the Royals in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, allowing three runs over his inning of work. He's being sent out in favor of a fresh bullpen arm.

Opening Wednesday
McArthur will start Wednesday's game against Seattle as the Royals' opener, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McArthur will be making the first start of his major-league career Wednesday. The 26-year-old righty has allowed two runs over four innings since being recalled from Triple-A on Aug. 4, and he will likely remain in the game for an inning or two before turning things over to Alec Marsh.
Aug 4, 2023
Recalled from Omaha
Kansas City recalled McArthur from Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
ANALYSIS
McArthur was just optioned out Wednesday, but the Royals need a replacement for Taylor Clarke as he heads to the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. McArthur figures to work in long relief.
Aug 2, 2023
Optioned to Triple-A
Kansas City optioned McArthur to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
McArthur was only up in the majors for one day and did not make an appearance. The 26-year-old right-hander got lit up for seven earned runs while recording only three outs in his major-league debut back on June 28 against the Guardians.

Recalled from Omaha
The Royals recalled McArthur from Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After the Royals unloaded Scott Barlow and Ryan Yarbrough ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, McArthur and Jackson Kowar will both come up from Omaha to fill in the holes in Kansas City's bullpen. McArthur holds a 5.26 ERA through 49.2 innings in Triple-A this season and surrendered seven runs during his MLB debut in June.

Back in minors
The Royals optioned McArthur to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.

Jun 24, 2023
Getting a shot in majors
McArthur was recalled by the Royals on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The Royals acquired McArthur from the Phillies on May 8, and he's pitched in long relief with Triple-A Omaha since. He has an unimpressive 4.87 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 20.1 innings with the team, but he'll get the chance to make his first big-league appearance.
May 8, 2023
Dealt to Kansas City
The Royals acquired McArthur from the Phillies on Monday in exchange for outfielder Junior Marin and cash considerations.
ANALYSIS
Though McArthur will most likely settle into the rotation at Triple-A Omaha with his new organization, he'll join the Royals' 40-man roster with Kansas City designating outfielder/designated hitter Franmil Reyes for assignment in a corresponding move. McArthur, who has yet to reach the majors, has logged a 7.31 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 15:7 K:BB across 16 innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season.
May 4, 2023
Designated for assignment
McArthur was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for Jeff Hoffman, who is joining the Phillies' bullpen. McArthur had posted a 7.31 ERA in 16 innings (four starts, one relief appearance) this season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Mar 12, 2023
Moves to Triple-A
The Phillies optioned McArthur to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old right-hander wasn't able to secure a spot in the Phillies' Opening Day bullpen after he was tagged for three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings across his five Grapefruit League appearances. McArthur is still awaiting his big-league debut, but the Phillies' decision to keep him on the 40-man roster over the offseason suggests the organization thinks he can become a contributor in the majors at some point in 2023.
Mar 6, 2023
Looking sharp in spring training
McArthur (elbow) has made three Grapefruit League appearances to date, striking out two and walking one and giving up one hit over three scoreless frames.
ANALYSIS
McArthur concluded the 2022 season on the Phillies' 60-day injured list after developing a right elbow stress reaction coming out of his final minor-league appearance at Double-A Reading on June 21. The 26-year-old right-hander has since been added back to the Phillies' 40-man roster, but he doesn't appear to be a serious candidate to win a rotation spot for the big club coming out of camp and will most likely be headed back to Reading or to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Jun 29, 2022
Recalled, placed on 60-day IL
McArthur was recalled and placed on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow stress reaction Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
McArthur was working as a starter at Double-A Reading to begin the season, and he posted a 5.05 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 57 innings over 13 starts. However, he'll be forced to miss at least two months due to his elbow injury. It's not yet clear when the right-hander is expected to return, but he should head back to the minors once he's considered healthy.
