Lands on IL
The Rays placed Adam on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain.
ANALYSIS
Adam underwent medical imaging on his left oblique after being pulled from his appearance Friday against Toronto, and he'll now officially be held out for the remainder of the regular season. Adam is hopeful he can return during the Rays' postseason run, per Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun, but Chris Devenski will join Tampa Bay's bullpen from Triple-A in the meantime.

Undergoing scans on oblique
Adam was sent for imaging scans on his left oblique after departing Friday's loss to the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
This is ominous news given that Adam just returned Thursday from a three-week injured list stint for a left oblique strain. He said the discomfort is in a different area this time around but acknowledged that it feels more severe. The 32-year-old high-leverage reliever is likely headed back to the IL and could be done for the remainder of 2023.
Sep 22, 2023
Pulled from appearance
Adam left Friday's game against the Blue Jays with an apparent injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam, who just returned Thursday from a three-week stay on the injured list to heal a left oblique strain, departed with a trainer at his side after uncorking a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning. Maybe his oblique strain wasn't all the way healed, or this could be a new injury. Erasmo Ramirez replaced him on the mound.

Makes return from IL
Adam (oblique) was activated from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam spent three weeks on the IL with a left oblique strain but is ready to rejoin the Rays' bullpen after throwing off a mound without issue in recent days. He will return to a high-leverage relief role.
Sep 15, 2023
Bullpen session Saturday
Adam (oblique) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
If that workout goes smoothly, Adam could begin facing live hitters next week in instructional league games with an eye on returning to the Rays' bullpen just before the end of the regular season. He's been on the injured list since late August because of a left oblique strain.
Sep 10, 2023
Hoping to return soon
Adam (oblique) is hoping to return from the injured list following the team's current road trip, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam has been sidelined since Aug. 29 and is eligible to return as soon as Sept. 14. While he may not be ready to be activated when first eligible, the team is hoping to get him back in time for a pivotal intra-division series with the Orioles beginning on the 19th. While the target date has been set, it's unclear what steps Adam has taken toward a potential return.
Sep 3, 2023
Lands on injured list
The Rays placed Adam on the 15-day injured list Sunday with a left oblique strain.
ANALYSIS
With Adam set to miss roughly two weeks, Pete Fairbanks should now have a firm hold of the Rays' closer job for the near future. Taj Bradley will come up from Triple-A Durham to fill Adam's roster spot and is set to start Sunday against Cleveland.
Sep 2, 2023
Headed to IL with oblique strain
Adam will be placed on the 15-day injured list with an oblique strain, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam last pitched on Sunday and it's not clear whether he suffered the injury then or on another occasion. Either way, he's slated to miss the next couple weeks of action, which is a major blow to the Rays' bullpen. Pete Fairbanks was already first in line for closer duties with Tampa Bay but should have a tighter grip on the job while Adam is out.

Locks down save No. 12
Adam tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his 12th save of the year in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Adams picked up his first save since June 14th after sending down the Yankees' hitters in order on 15 pitches. Adams still appears to be the next man up in the pecking order for saves should Peter Fairbanks ever be unavailable like he was Sunday. Adam has picked up two wins, a save and a hold in 10 appearances in August while registering a 3.27 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB in 11 innings.
Jun 15, 2023
Picks up 11th save
Adam picked up the save Wednesday against the Athletics, allowing one hit while striking out one over a scoreless inning. He did not issue a walk.
ANALYSIS
Adam continues to operate as Tampa Bay's primary closer with Pete Fairbanks (hip) on the injured list. The former sports a 2.76 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 38:13 K:BB across 31 appearances (29.1 innings), but he's just 11-for-15 in save opportunities. While Adam has been steady as a late-inning option, Fairbanks' impending return will likely reduce Adam's overall fantasy value moving forward.
Jun 9, 2023
Nails down 10th save
Adam picked up the save in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Twins, striking out one over one inning.
ANALYSIS
Adam entered the game in the ninth with a 4-2 lead and retired all three hitters he faced to record his 10th save of the season. It was a nice rebound outing for the Rays reliever after blowing the save Wednesday against these same Twins. He's now converted five of his last six save opportunities and holds a 2.96 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP while holding down the closer role in the absence of Pete Fairbanks (hip).
Jun 8, 2023
Nabs win after blown save
Adam (2-1) blew his fourth save of the season but still picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Twins, giving up a run in the ninth inning on a hit and a walk while also hitting two batters with pitches.
ANALYSIS
Tampa Bay deployed a bullpen day and kept Minnesota off the board for eight innings, but Adam's control deserted him in the ninth and nearly led to disaster. After he gave up the tying run and loaded the bases with one out, however, the Rays were able to turn a slick 5-4-3 double play to end the threat, setting the stage for Randy Arozarena to walk it off in the bottom of the frame. Adam is now 9-for-12 in converting save chances since the beginning of May, but he'll continue to hold down the fort as the closer until Pete Fairbanks (hip) is able to get healthy -- or the front office swings a deal for high-leverage reinforcements.
Jun 5, 2023
Earns ninth save
Adam picked up the save Monday against the Red Sox, striking out two over a scoreless inning.
ANALYSIS
Adam improved to 9-for-12 in save chances Monday, striking out a pair while setting the Red Sox down in order in the ninth. The 31-year-old right-hander hasn't allowed a run in his last five appearances (5.1 innings), lowering his ERA to 2.84 with a 1.11 WHIP and 35:10 K:BB through 25.1 innings this season. Adam should remain Tampa's primary ninth-inning option while Pete Fairbanks (hip) is sidelined.
Jun 4, 2023
Collects eighth save
Adam recorded his eighth save of the season in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, walking one in a scoreless ninth inning.
ANALYSIS
With Pete Fairbanks (hip) continuing to have trouble staying healthy, Adam has been the most reliable arm in the Rays' bullpen this season. The 31-year-old righty has gone 8-for-10 on save chances since the beginning of May with a 23:6 K:BB through 14 innings, but if Tampa Bay looks outside the organization and trades for a high-leverage arm or two, Adam could find himself back in a fireman role similar to last year's when he wound up with 21 holds and eight saves despite elite ratios.
May 28, 2023
Notches two-inning save
Adam picked up the save in Sunday's 11-10 win over the Dodgers, allowing just one walk while striking out two over two scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Pete Fairbanks was slated to come in for the ninth after Adam pitched the eighth. However, Fairbanks suffered an injury while warming up, leaving it up to Adam to finish the game. It was an impressive performance from the 31-year-old Adam. He'd been struggling of late, pitching to a 13.50 ERA over his last five appearances (3.1 innings). For the season, Adam now sports a 3.22 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB across 22.1 innings while going 7-for-10 in save chances. If Fairbanks is forced to miss time, Adam would step back into the primary closing role for Tampa Bay.
May 20, 2023
Nabs sixth save
Adam picked up the save in Saturday's 8-4 win over the Brewers. He struck out one over two-thirds of a scoreless inning.
ANALYSIS
Adam got the save opportunity after Pete Fairbanks closed out Friday Night's win and didn't allow a single baserunner in his time on the mound. Adam stepped in for Trevor Kelly, who opened up the ninth and walked both Rowdy Tellez and Brian Anderson before being yanked. Through 21 appearances (19.2 innings) Adam holds a 2.75 ERA with a 25:6 K/BB.
May 18, 2023
Blows save against Mets
Adam blew a save against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing three runs on one hit and one walk while striking out two batters over one inning.
ANALYSIS
Adam got the call from the bullpen with the Rays up by three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but he couldn't get the job done. The right-hander put the first two batters he faced on base via a walk and hit-by-pitch, then retired the next two hitters before serving up a game-tying three-run homer to Francisco Alvarez. It was the second blown save over the past three outings for Adam, whose ERA shot up from 1.59 to 3.00 as a result of Wednesday's collapse. Co-closer Pete Fairbanks also blew a save with a poor appearance Wednesday, and the pair will likely continue sharing fireman duties moving forward.
May 15, 2023
Notches fifth save
Adam picked up the save Sunday with a clean ninth inning, sealing an 8-7 win over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Adam blew his first save in his last outing against the Yankees on Friday but bounced back Sunday, setting down New York 1-2-3 to cap Tampa Bay's one-run victory. The 31-year-old Adam has been excellent this season, allowing just one earned run in his last 9.2 innings, lowering his ERA to 1.59 with a 1.00 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB through 17 innings this season. Pete Fairbanks (forearm) is expected to return on Tuesday for the Rays, though Adam has done his part to maintain a share of the ninth-inning job.
May 13, 2023
Takes loss Friday
Adam (0-1) allowed one earned run on one hit across 0.2 innings to take the loss Friday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Adam entered the game with a one-run lead and a runner on first base in the eighth inning. He served up a two-run home run to Anthony Rizzo -- the first batter he faced -- to take his first loss of the season. Adam had allowed two earned runs across 15.1 innings entering the contest, so this was a misstep among a larger track record of strong performances. He should continue to see plenty of save chances so long as Pete Fairbanks (forearm) is sidelined.
May 9, 2023
Strikes out side in ninth
Adam picked up the save during Monday's 3-0 win over the Orioles, striking out the side over a scoreless ninth in which he allowed one hit and didn't walk a batter.
ANALYSIS
With Pete Fairbanks (forearm) on the injured list, Adam continues to operate as the Rays' go-to closer. He's recorded four saves over his past five outings and holds a 10:1 K:BB during that stretch. Fairbanks has started to play catch again and is eligible to return May 16.
May 6, 2023
Secures third save
Adam picked up the save during Friday's 5-4 win over the Yankees, tossing a scoreless ninth in which he allowed one hit and zero walks while striking out one.
ANALYSIS
With Pete Fairbanks (forearm) on the 15-injured list, Adam has drawn three saves chances over the past week and was able to secure the win in each of those games. The right-hander is now 3-for-4 in save opportunities and currently sports a 1.35 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP and a 17:5 K:BB across 14 outings (13.1 innings). As long as Fairbanks is sidelined, Adam will presumably be Tampa Bay's go-to closer.
May 4, 2023
Escapes ninth inning scare
Adam picked up the save Thursday against Pittsburgh. He allowed two runs (zero earned) on one hit and one walk while striking out three over one inning.
ANALYSIS
Adam nearly blew his second save of the season Thursday, walking Tucupita Marcano after striking out Rodolfo Castro to start the ninth. Marcano advanced to second after an error by Taylor Walls on a fielder's choice hit by Bryan Reynolds left both runners safe. Both Reynolds and Marcano came around to score on a Carlos Santana bases-clearing double to right with two outs. However, Adam managed to stave off the Pirates' comeback efforts, striking out Connor Joe to end the game. Though Adam should continue to receive closer's work with Pete Fairbanks (finger) on the 15-day injured list, he could face competition if his struggles sustain.
May 3, 2023
Records first save
Adam picked up the save in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Pirates. He allowed no runs on one hit while striking out three over one inning.
ANALYSIS
Adam saw his first save chance of the season with Pete Fairbanks (finger) still unavailable. The 31-year-old Adam took advantage of the opportunity, striking out three Pirates to seal a 4-1 win. Adam is off to another strong start in his second season with Tampa Bay, pitching to a 1.59 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB through 11.1 innings. He'll likely be the Rays' preferred option in the ninth while Fairbanks is out.
Feb 11, 2023
Wins arbitration case
Adam won his arbitration case Saturday against the Rays and will make $1.775 million in 2023, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The team filed at $1.55 million when arbitration figures were exchanged in November. Adam, still believed to be a candidate for a springtime contract extension, registered a sparkling 1.56 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 75:17 K:BB over 63.1 regular-season innings for the Rays in 2022. He earned eight saves along the way and is expected to get even more opportunities at closer this year.
Sep 13, 2022
Coughs up lead
Adam (2-3) alowed two earmed runs on two hits while striking out one across one inning to take the loss Monday against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Adam entered the game in a setup role with a one-run lead in the eighth inning. However, he allowed a leadoff single and then served up a two-run home run to Bo Bichette to blow the advantage. Adam has an excellent 1.54 ERA with a 0.69 WHIP with a 71:14 K:BB accross 58.1 innings while serving as a part-time closer for the season, though he's now given up four earned runs across his last 7.2 frames.
Sep 4, 2022
Picks up save
Adam picked up the save Saturday against the Yankees, allowing one run on e one hit while striking out two and walking none over one inning.
ANALYSIS
Adam allowed a solo shot to Aaron Judge in the top of the ninth, but it would turn out not to matter as the reliever would close out the inning and earn the save. It was his eighth save of the season and put him one ahead of Colin Poche for the team lead. There are 10 Rays pitchers with at least one save this season, but Brooks Raley, Poche and Adam seem to be the favorites as they have six, seven and eight saves respectively. This is clearly a bullpen by committee approach, but with a talented team like the Rays, there is still value in rostering Adam even if he does not earn every save chance.
Aug 16, 2022
Picks up seventh save
Adam earned the save Tuesday, striking out two in 1.1 innings in a 3-1 victory over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Adam entered the game in the eighth inning with two outs and one on to face Aaron Judge and got the slugger to ground out. He then worked a perfect ninth, fanning Anthony Rizzo and Jose Trevino. Adam has been called upon to finish out the last three ballgames for the Rays, saving Sunday's contest against Baltimore and finishing Monday's 4-0 victory over New York. His seven saves are tied for the team lead with Colin Poche and Brooks Raley.
Aug 14, 2022
Earns sixth save
Adam picked up the save Sunday against Baltimore, striking out the only two batters he faced in a 4-1 victory.
ANALYSIS
Adam came on in the ninth inning with one out and one on and needed only eight pitched to strike out both Cedric Mullins and Adley Rutschman. It was his sixth save this season and second this month. The 31-year-old has not allowed a run in his last eight outings, giving up one hit and a walk while striking out eight in 8.1 innings in that span. He'll continue to get occasional save chances but those opportunities will likely remain unpredictable as the Rays continue to employ a closer committee.
Aug 3, 2022
Nails down fifth save
Adam struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old right-hander continues to be a key member of the Rays' late-inning committee. Adam has picked up three saves and five holds in 13 appearances since the beginning of July while being scored upon only once in that stretch, posting a 0.75 ERA, 0.42 WHIP and 18:0 K:BB over his last 12 innings.
Jul 17, 2022
Picks up save Sunday
Adam earned the save Sunday, striking out one in the ninth inning of a 7-5 victory over Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Facing the top three hitters in the Orioles' lineup, Adam got two groundouts and a strikeout en route to his fourth save of the season. The 30-year-old ends the first half having set career highs in nearly every counting category and posting his best rate stats as well. With a 1.41 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 46:8 K:BB, Adam is in the upper echelon of relievers in baseball in 2022.
Jul 3, 2022
Records third save
Adam struck out the only two batters he faced and earned a save over the Blue Jays on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Adam finished off the 7-3 win in quick fashion after Shawn Armstrong ran into some trouble in the ninth inning. The 30-year-old righty needed just seven pitches to pick up his first save since June 9. Adam lowered his season ERA to 1.44 with a 35:8 K:BB through 34 appearances.
Jun 21, 2022
Takes second loss
Adam (0-2) allowed two earned runs on two hits to take the loss Monday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Adam entered the game with the score knotted at two in the ninth inning. He got the first out, but then allowed a single, triple and sacrifice fly to account for the runs and take the loss. His usage Monday fell in line with that of a traditional closer, but he entered in the fourth inning Sunday. That suggests Adam is being used as the primary high-leverage reliever out of the Tampa Bay bullpen, which would cost him the chance for saves. He has been excellent regardless of usage this season, maintaining a 1.30 ERA and 0.69 WHIP across 27.2 innings.
Jun 19, 2022
Enters in fourth inning
Adam recorded one out without allowing a baserunner to record a hold Saturday against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Adam's outing was brief and not particularly notable, though he followed starter Jeffrey Springs into the game in the fourth inning. Adam picked up his second save of the season June 9 -- which came after Andrew Kittredge (elbow) went down -- though Colin Poche closed out Saturday's win. Adam has been excellent this season by maintaining a 0.68 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB, though it appears that he will be reserved for high-leverage scenarios rather than a traditional ninth-inning role.
Jun 10, 2022
Tallies another save
Adam allowed one walk and struck out one across a scoreless inning to earn the save Thursday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Adam was the only Rays reliever to enter the game, and he collected his second save of the season with little trouble. Now that Andrew Kittredge (elbow) is back on the injured list, the closer role in Tampa Bay is wide open. Adam has certainly proven to be reliable to this point in the season, as he's maintained a 0.72 ERA with a 30:8 K:BB across 25 innings. However, Colin Poche and Brooks Raley have also been used in save situations.
May 14, 2022
Winds up with first career save
Adam struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his first career save in a 5-2 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Andrew Kittredge, who wound up getting the win, and Brooks Raley both worked in the eighth inning, and manager Kevin Cash chose Adam to handle the ninth against the middle of the Toronto order. The 30-year-old needed 17 pitches (nine strikes), but he got the job done. Adam has been sharp this season while primarily working in middle relief, adding two holds to his save over 14 appearances with a 1.26 ERA, 0.56 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB through 14.1 innings.
Apr 1, 2022
Having impressive spring
Adam threw a scoreless inning with three strikeouts in Friday's spring training win over Boston. "(He) continues to impress," manager Kevin Cash told the Tampa Bay Times. "The fastball, but obviously the off-speed pitches that he's just gaining a lot of confidence with."
ANALYSIS
Adam is making a strong case to win a bullpen job with six strikeouts, two walks and two runs allowed in four innings this spring. He's competing for a final spot in the bullpen against Colin Poche and Ryan Thompson.
Mar 17, 2022
Signs one-year deal with Rays
Adam joined the Rays on a one-year, $900,000 deal Thursday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old righty was non-tendered by the Cubs after posting a 5.91 ERA in a small sample of 10.2 innings last season, but the Rays evidently saw enough to offer him a major-league deal. His appeal is likely related to his ability to miss bats, as he owns a 37.0 percent strikeout rate in 24.1 innings across the last two seasons, which should in theory be high enough to offset his 13.0 percent walk rate.
Nov 30, 2021
Non-tendered by Cubs
Adam was non-tendered by the Cubs on Tuesday, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam had a brief stint in the majors during 2021 and had a 19:6 K:BB over 10.2 innings while giving up seven earned runs. He'll look to latch on elsewhere for 2022.
Sep 28, 2021
Recalled by Cubs
Adam was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam was called up as the 29th man for Friday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, and he made his first major-league appearance since May 9. He struck out three in a perfect relief inning and will provide an extra arm in the Cubs' bullpen late in the season.
Sep 24, 2021
Selected, added as 29th man
The Cubs selected Adam's contract from Triple-A Iowa and added him as the 29th man for Friday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam has managed a 1.80 ERA in five minor-league innings this month, but his 8.22 mark with the Cubs earlier this season suggests he'll likely be limited to low-leverage relief work, if anything, during Friday's doubleheader.
Jul 16, 2021
Re-signs with Cubs
Adam (ankle) re-signed Monday with the Cubs on a minor-league contract.
ANALYSIS
Adam posted an 8.22 ERA and 1.96 WHIP across nine appearances out of the big-league bullpen earlier this season before he was designated for assignment in late May. The roster move came shortly after Adam sustained an ankle injury that required surgery, and the Cubs ultimately released him once he cleared waivers. Nearly six weeks after being cut loose, Adam is back with the Cubs, signaling that the organization is comfortable with where he stands on the health front. The veteran right-hander will report to the Cubs' Arizona Complex League affiliate as he looks to build up following the long layoff, but he's expected to eventually settle at Triple-A Iowa.
May 25, 2021
Designated for assignment
The Cubs designated Adam (ankle) for assignment Tuesday, Maddie Lee of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
The move comes three days after Adam underwent left ankle surgery. Adam figures to clear waivers, considering the injury and his struggles at the big-league level this season. The Cubs needed to remove him from the 40-man roster to make room for Patrick Wisdom, whom they recalled Tuesday for added infield depth.
May 22, 2021
Undergoes ankle surgery
Adam underwent surgery to repair a dislocated left ankle Friday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Recovery from the procedure will likely keep Adam out for an extended period, though the Cubs didn't specify exactly how long they expect him to be out. He's made nine appearances at the big-league level this season, struggling to an 8.22 ERA and 1.96 WHIP, but was pitcher for Triple-A Iowa when he suffered the injury.
May 14, 2021
Sent to minors
Adam was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam's latest stint on the big-league roster lasted a week. He made just a single relief appearance, striking out three while allowing two hits in a scoreless inning against the Pirates. Jake Arrieta (thumb) returned from the injured list in a corresponding move.
May 7, 2021
Joins big-league club
Adam was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Maddie Lee of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old was optioned to the alternate site last week but will rejoin the Cubs ahead of Friday's series opener versus the Pirates. Adam has surrendered seven runs on seven hits with a 10:6 K:BB across 6.2 innings out of the bullpen this season.
Apr 26, 2021
Optioned to alternate camp
Adam was optioned to the Cubs' alternate training site Monday.
ANALYSIS
Adam was roughed up in his relief appearance in Sunday's loss to the Brewers, as he allowed five runs on three hits and two walks while failing to record an out. As a result, he'll be sent to the team's alternate camp for the time being. Right-hander Trevor Megill's contract was selected by the Cubs as part of a shuffle after Jonathan Holder (shoulder) and Rowan Wick (oblique) were transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Apr 14, 2021
Back from COVID IL
The Cubs reinstated Adam from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday, Maddie Lee of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam was able to clear MLB's health and safety protocols in two days after first landing on the COVID-19 IL on Monday. The Cubs optioned reliever Brad Wieck to their alternate site to open up a spot on the active roster for Adam.
Apr 12, 2021
Placed on injured list
Adam was placed on the 10-day injured list for an unspecified reason Monday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam had pitched in each of the past two games and had posted a 2.45 ERA and 1.64 ERA with seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings to begin the season. The Cubs didn't give a reason for Adam's placement on the injured list, and it's not yet clear when the right-hander will be able to return.
Feb 21, 2021
Should have prominent role
Adam figures to be part of the Cubs' bullpen "core" this season, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam looked good in a small sample size last season, registering a 3.29 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 21 strikeouts across 13.2 innings. That audition will likely lock the 29-year-old into a setup role ahead of the likes of Rowan Wick (chest) and closer Craig Kimbrel. The latter has struggled some since arriving in Chicago, so Adam has an outside chance at closing some games depending on how things shake out.
Sep 2, 2020
Rejoins big club
Adam was recalled from the alternate training site Wednesday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam made his team debut with the Cubs in August and allowed three runs on five hits with a 9:2 K:BB over 3.2 innings, and he's back with the club for another stint in the majors. Jose Quintana (lat) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.
Aug 25, 2020
Back to alternate site
Adam was optioned to the Cubs' alternate training site Tuesday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tyler Chatwood and Jose Quintana were both activated from the injured list, and Adam's demotion was one of the corresponding moves. He gave up three runs in 3.2 innings across three appearances in the majors.
Aug 16, 2020
Joins big-league roster
The Cubs selected Adam's contract Sunday from their alternate training site, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam will assume the 40-man roster spot of pitcher Jharel Cotton, who was designated for assignment. The 29-year-old made 23 appearances out of the Toronto bullpen in 2019, posting a 2.91 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB in 21.2 innings.
Jun 28, 2020
Makes 60-player pool
Adam will be a part of the Cubs' 60-man player pool this season.
ANALYSIS
Adam will join a group of 11 players training in South Bend, while 39 others will work out at Wrigley Field. This likely puts Adam a little ways away from any meaningful MLB action, though he did look good over 23 games with the Blue Jays last season and could get a look at some point this year.
Mar 6, 2020
Sent to minor-league camp
Adam was assigned to minor-league camp on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Adam was signed as a non-roster invitee in January but didn't stick around in big-league camp for long. He threw 4.2 innings in the Cactus League, striking out nine but walking eight while allowing six runs (three earned).
Jan 14, 2020
Signs with Cubs
Adam signed a minor-league deal with the Cubs on Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, freelance baseball writer Robert Murray reports.
ANALYSIS
Adam was non-tendered by the Blue Jays in early December but it's not overly surprising to see him garner interest elsewhere after posting a 2.91 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 18:10 K:BB across 21.2 innings during 2019. The 28-year-old could slot into a middle relief role with a strong spring training.
