Baez hit a pair of homers Tuesday and has two hits in each of the past three games, and it's unclear when he sustained the thumb injury. He should be considered day-to-day while Sergio Alcantara receives the start at shortstop.

The 28-year-old is up to 21 long balls, 56 RBI, 41 runs scored and 10 stolen bases through 77 games, although his .234 batting average leaves a bit to be desired.

Baez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Monday's 13-3 loss to Philadelphia.

The shortstop continues to show decent power with 19 homers, two triples and seven doubles through 76 games. Baez has multiple hits in his last two games, lifting his batting average up to .230 with a .755 OPS through 300 plate appearances. He's added 52 RBI, 39 runs scored and 10 stolen bases this year, but his ratios aren't likely to improve much while he's striking out at a 37 percent clip.

The shortstop knocked in Kris Bryant with an RBI single in the first inning. In the sixth, Baez hit another single and added his 10th stolen base in 12 attempts this season. Baez endured a brutal slump in June, batting just .157 (13-for-83) with five home runs, 13 RBI, eight runs scored and a stolen base in 25 games. His multi-hit effort Sunday was his first since May 31, as he looks to improve upon a .225/.274/.458 slash line across 296 plate appearances this year.

Baez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Dodgers.

Baez slammed a solo home run off Clayton Kershaw in the fourth inning for the Cubs lone run in the game. It was his second long ball of the series and he recorded a hit in every game against the Dodgers. The 28-year-old is slashing .228/.267/.472 in 270 plate appearances. He leads the Cubs in home runs (18) and steals (9). However, he is worst in all of baseball with a 38.0% strikeout rate and has a National League-worst 3.3% walk rate.

Baez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a strikeout as the Cubs defeated the Dodgers 4-0 on Thursday.

Baez opened the scoring in the first with his 401-foot blast to center off Walker Buehler and that would be all the support Zach Davies would need as the starter combined with three Chicago relievers to throw a combined no-hitter. Despite the home run, Baez is still mired in a June slump as he's now 8-for-62 this month though half of those hits are home runs.
