On bench versus lefty
Sanchez is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Jon Berti, Jazz Chisholm and Bryan De La Cruz will start across the outfield for the Marlins as they take on left-hander David Peterson at Citi Field. Sanchez has slashed just .217/.250/.326 in 49 plate appearances versus lefties this season.
Sep 27, 2023
Not in lineup for first game
Sanchez is not in the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports
ANALYSIS
The Mets have yet to announce the order of their starters for the double dip, but Sanchez's absence from the lineup suggests lefty Joey Lucchesi will start the first game and Kodai Senga will get the nightcap. Jorge Soler is playing right field in the first contest while Yuli Gurriel handles first base and Josh Bell is used at designated hitter.
Sep 26, 2023
On bench versus lefty
Sanchez is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Bryan De La Cruz, Jazz Chisholm and Jorge Soler will start across the outfield as the Marlins take on left-hander Joey Lucchesi. Sanchez has slashed just .227/.261/.341 in 47 plate appearances versus lefties this season.
Sep 19, 2023
Sitting against lefty
Sanchez is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Jon Berti, Jazz Chisholm and Bryan De La Cruz (ankle) will start across the outfield for the Marlins as they take on left-hander Joey Lucchesi. Sanchez has slashed just .220/.256/.317 in 44 plate appearances this year against southpaws.
Sep 10, 2023
On bench versus southpaw
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez will once again head to the bench with the Phillies sending out a left-handed pitcher in Ranger Suarez. Dane Myers, Jazz Chisholm and Bryan De La Cruz should start from left to right across the outfield Sunday in Philadelphia.
Sep 8, 2023
Takes seat versus lefty
Sanchez is not in the lineup Friday against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Bryan De La Cruz, Jazz Chisholm and Garrett Hampson will start across the outfield for the Marlins as they take on left-hander Cristopher Sanchez. Sanchez has enjoyed a solid overall season, but he carries a relatively weak .651 OPS versus southpaws.
Aug 29, 2023
Not in lineup Tuesday
Sanchez is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Bryan De La Cruz, Jazz Chisholm and Jorge Soler will start across the outfield. Sanchez takes a seat after going 1-for-8 with three walks and two strikeouts in the Marlins' three-game weekend series against the Nationals.
Aug 14, 2023
On bench Monday
Sanchez is out of the lineup Monday versus the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Avisail Garcia, Bryan De La Cruz and Jorge Soler will start across the outfield for the Marlins as they take on the Astros and left-hander Framber Valdez. Sanchez has drawn only 27 plate appearances versus southpaws this year.
Aug 9, 2023
Not in Wednesday's lineup
Sanchez is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
Avisail Garcia is getting the call in right field against Reds right-hander Graham Ashcraft. Sanchez has now started just two of the last six games, although this is the first time he hasn't been in there versus a righty over that span.
Aug 7, 2023
Sitting again Monday
Sanchez is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds, according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez rarely starts against southpaws, so it should come as little surprise that he is being held out Monday with left-hander Brandon Williamson on the bump for Cincinnati.
Aug 6, 2023
Idle versus lefty
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez appears to have settled into the strong side of a platoon in the corner outfield, but he'll take a seat in Sunday's series finale while southpaw Andrew Heaney takes the hill for Texas. Avisail Garcia will replace Sanchez in the lineup and will bat sixth.
Aug 4, 2023
Sitting vs. Montgomery
Sanchez is not in Friday's lineup against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
He will open the game on the bench with lefty Jordan Montgomery on the hill for Texas. Sanchez has started twice against a lefty all season, with both starts coming over the past two weeks but before the trade deadline. He has started both games against righties since the deadline, and the only righty the Marlins face this weekend is Jon Gray on Saturday.
Aug 3, 2023
Walks it off Wednesday
Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-8 extra-innings win over the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins had plenty of heroes on a wild night that saw them wait until the sixth inning to score their first runs and take their first and only lead in the 12th, but Sanchez got the walk-off honors by bringing home Jazz Chisholm with a single. Sanchez hadn't had a multi-hit performance since July 14, but since the All-Star break he's compiled a solid .295/.367/.432 slash line, albeit with just one homer, three runs and five RBI in 14 contests. With Chisholm and Avisail Garcia both healthy again, Miami's outfield has gotten crowded, so Sanchez will need to keep hitting if he wants to maintain even a semi-regular spot in the lineup.
Aug 1, 2023
Sitting again Tuesday
Sanchez remains out of the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez appeared off the bench for the Marlins in Monday's series opener against Philadelphia, but he hasn't started a game since last Friday. There may be some kind of physical issue, as he was productive for the most part in July while posting an .828 OPS with three homers and 10 RBI across 19 games.
Jul 31, 2023
Hits bench against righty
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez will hit the bench for a third straight game, but unlike the previous two contests, the Marlins are facing a right-hander (Taijuan Walker) rather than a left-handed starter/primary pitcher. With Avisail Garcia returning from the injured list last week and Jazz Chisholm (oblique) getting activated Monday, the Miami outfield is more crowded these days, and it doesn't help Sanchez's cause that super-utility man Jon Berti has been picking up more work in left field of late. Sanchez has posted a modest .728 OPS since returning from an IL stint of his own in late May and could be relegated to more of a part-time role now that Miami has plenty of options in the outfield.
Jul 30, 2023
On bench again Sunday
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez finds himself on the bench for the second straight game with lefty Tarik Skubal on the mound Sunday for Detroit. Avisail Garcia (back) will man right field in his return from the injured list while Garrett Hampson starts in center.
Jul 29, 2023
Sitting out Saturday
Sanchez isn't in the Marlins' lineup Saturday against the Tigers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez is just 3-for-14 with a run scored across his last five contests, so he'll get a breather Saturday to regroup. Bryan De La Cruz will slide over to right field while Sanchez sits, allowing Jon Berti to start in left and bat fifth.
Jul 28, 2023
Returns to action
Sanchez (neck) is starting in center field and hitting cleanup Friday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
He was removed from Wednesday's game with neck tightness but is back in action against righty Reese Olson. Sanchez made his first start against a lefty all season on July 23, but with Tarik Skubal due up for Detroit on Sunday and Joey Wentz a rumored option for Saturday's start, it's possible Sanchez sits in one or both of the final two games of the weekend.
Jul 26, 2023
Dealing with neck issue
Sanchez was removed from Wednesday's win over the Rays due to neck tightness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
It looked like it might be a leg-related injury when Sanchez pulled up while running out a grounder, but apparently it's his neck that's bothering him. It would seem to qualify as good news and likely is a day-to-day situation. Sanchez was retired in his lone plate appearance Wednesday before exiting.
Jul 26, 2023
Exits game with leg injury
Sanchez was removed from Wednesday's game versus the Rays with an apparent leg injury, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez appeared to tweak something while running out a ground ball in the second inning and had to be helped off the field. He did spend time on the injured list earlier this season with a strained hamstring, although it's not clear whether this might be related to that. More clarification on Sanchez's status should be available shortly.
Jul 18, 2023
Sitting versus lefty
Sanchez is absent from the lineup Tuesday at St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Bryan De La Cruz, Dane Myers and Jorge Soler will start across the outfield for the Marlins as they face off against left-hander Jordan Montgomery. The left-handed-hitting Sanchez has drawn only 19 plate appearances versus southpaws this year.
Jul 18, 2023
Launches homer No. 10
Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
He took Miles Mikolas deep in the sixth inning, briefly tying the game before St. Louis pulled away in the bottom of the frame. Sanchez has gone yard four times in his last 11 games, batting .317 (13-for-41) over that stretch to boost his slash line on the season to .260/.319/.490 with 10 homers, three steals, 25 runs and 33 RBI in 66 contests.
Jul 8, 2023
Sitting against lefty
Sanchez isn't in the Marlins' lineup Saturday against Philadelphia, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Lefty Ranger Suarez will start on the mound for the Phillies on Saturday, meaning the lefty-hitting Sanchez will remain in the dugout to begin the game. Jorge Soler will take over for Sanchez in right field, moving Garrett Cooper into the DH spot and Yuli Gurriel in at first base while batting fourth.
Jul 5, 2023
Idle versus lefty
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez and fellow left-handed hitter Joey Wendle will move to the bench Wednesday while the Cardinals bring southpaw Matthew Liberatore to the mound. Yuli Gurriel will effectively be filling in for Sanchez, starting at first base while Garrett Cooper occupies the designated-hitter spot and Jorge Soler shifts to the corner outfield.
Jul 4, 2023
Homer, four RBI in win
Sanchez went 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's 15-2 victory over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez got Miami's offensive onslaught started with a three-run homer off Adam Wainwright in the first inning before adding a fourth RBI with a base hit in the seventh. Sanchez has hits in five straight games, with a pair of homers in that span, following a 2-for-26 (.077) stretch in his previous seven contests. The 25-year-old outfielder is slashing .257/.321/.474 with eight homers, 30 RBI and 21 runs scored through 187 plate appearances this season.
Jul 1, 2023
Heads to bench
Sanchez will sit Saturday against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez homered during Friday's series opener, but even with that performance included he's struggled to a .148/.212/.246 line in his last 18 games. Jorge Soler will start in right field Saturday.
Jul 1, 2023
Socks seventh homer
Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
He launched a two-run shot off Michael Soroka in the third inning, but it was a drop in the bucket in a 16-4 rout. Sanchez snapped a 17-game homer drought with the long ball, and on the season the streaky 25-year-old is slashing .245/.314/.453 with seven home runs, three steals, 20 runs and 25 RBI through 56 contests.
Jun 29, 2023
Added to lineup Thursday
Sanchez was added to the lineup for Thursday's game against the Red Sox, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was initially absent from the Marlins' lineup for a second straight day amid a deep rut at the dish, but he's needed in right field with Garrett Cooper (illness) having to be scratched and Jorge Soler taking over designated hitter duties.
Jun 29, 2023
On bench again Thursday
Sanchez remains on the bench for Thursday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez is stuck in a deep slump and rapidly losing playing time. Jorge Soler, Jazz Chisholm and Bryan De La Cruz will start across the outfield for the Marlins on Thursday night at Fenway Park.
Jun 28, 2023
On bench amid slump
Sanchez is absent from the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Bryan De La Cruz, Jazz Chisholm and Jonathan Davis will start across the outfield for the Marlins. Sanchez has gone 0-for-13 with zero walks and six strikeouts over his last three games and is slashing just .183/.247/.329 in 89 plate appearances since the beginning of June.
Jun 18, 2023
Not in Sunday's lineup
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has hits in each of the past three games but is without an extra-base hit in his past 26 at-bats, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's series finale in Washington. Jorge Soler will move out to right field while Garrett Cooper serves as the designated hitter.
Jun 13, 2023
Breather Tuesday
Sanchez is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Mariners, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez will get a day off after he produced a .200 batting average with three homers, eight RBI and five runs scored while walking six times and punching out 10 times while starting the first 11 games of June. Jorge Soler will take over in right field while Yuli Gurriel enters the lineup at first base after some shuffling and bats fifth against Seattle.
Jun 8, 2023
Blasts sixth homer
Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
His three-run shot to straightaway center field off Jordan Lyles in the third inning proved to be all the offense Edward Cabrera (finger) and the Miami bullpen would need. Half of Sanchez's six homers on the year have come in the last six games, including back-to-back contests Tuesday and Wednesday, and since coming off the IL in late May he's batting .345 (10-for-29) with seven RBI in nine games.
Jun 6, 2023
Homers in win
Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-1 victory over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez led off the fifth inning with a solo home run off Zack Greinke, giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead. It's Sanchez's fifth homer of the season and his second in five games. The 25-year-old outfielder is slashing a solid .287/.362/.543 with 13 RBI and 12 runs scored through 105 plate appearances this season.
Jun 3, 2023
Gives Miami early lead
Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run during Friday's 4-0 victory over Oakland.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez hit a two-run home run off Shintaro Fujinami to open the scoring in the first and added two singles, marking his second three-hit game of the season. Sanchez missed some time in May due to a hamstring injury and hasn't been starting versus left-handed pitchers since being activated, but he's still been very productive of late, slashing .429/.429/.857 with three home runs and eight RBI over his past 12 appearances (35 at-bats).
May 31, 2023
Remains out versus lefty
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Though the Marlins reinstated Sanchez from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, he'll now be on the bench for a second straight game since being activated. The Marlins have faced left-handed starting pitchers in both of those contests, so the lefty-hitting Sanchez simply seems to be sitting for matchup-related reasons. Sanchez should play regularly versus right-handed pitching now that he's healthy again.
May 30, 2023
Activated from injured list
Sanchez (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez is not in the Marlins' starting lineup Tuesday night against the Padres, but he's recovered from the hamstring strain he suffered May 10 and will look to pick up where he left off prior to the IL stint. The 25-year-old has registered a .914 OPS in 77 plate appearances this season when healthy.
May 27, 2023
Expected to return Tuesday
Sanchez (hamstring) is expected to appear in his final rehab game Sunday and return to Miami on Tuesday for the Marlins' series against the Padres, Kevin Barral of Fish On First reports.
ANALYSIS
Assuming he does return Tuesday for the Marlins, Sanchez will end up missing just a little over two weeks while recovering from his hamstring strain. The outfielder will assuredly be a regular in right field once back with the club, and he's hit .290 with a .914 OPS in his 69 at-bats over 29 games.
May 26, 2023
Beginning rehab assignment
Sanchez (hamstring) is set to begin a rehab assignment Friday night with Triple-A Jacksonville, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez will presumably play two or three games with Jacksonville before returning to the Marlins' active roster early next week. The 25-year-old outfielder was sporting an impressive .290/.364/.551 batting line with three home runs and three stolen bases through 77 plate appearances when he landed on the injured list May 14 with a right hamstring strain.
May 22, 2023
Doing strength work
Sanchez is doing lower-body strength work at the Marlins' spring training complex, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear exactly how much Sanchez is doing, but it is encouraging to hear he is doing some sort of activities. He is eligible to be activated from the injured list Wednesday, but he will presumably need more time beyond that.
May 14, 2023
Moves to injured list
Sanchez was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right hamstring strain, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old returned to the lineup Saturday against the Reds after he tweaked his hamstring earlier in the week, and he's now headed to the IL after he aggravated the injury. Sanchez will be eligible to be activated May 24, though it's unclear if he's expected to be healthy by that point. Garrett Hampson, who is starting Sunday, and Peyton Burdick should see more run in right field while Sanchez is sidelined.
May 14, 2023
Remains out Sunday
Sanchez (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez left Saturday's game against Cincinnati with soreness in his right hamstring. The outfielder will take a seat for the series finale against the Reds with Peyton Burdick getting the start in right. Sanchez should be considered day-to-day with a chance to return to the lineup Tuesday against the Nationals.
May 13, 2023
Re-injures hamstring
Sanchez left Saturday's game against the Reds with right hamstring soreness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
He left Wednesday's game with a right hamstring injury and returned to the lineup Saturday but was unable to make it through the whole game before re-aggravating the injury. The team may opt for a more cautious approach to make sure Sanchez's injury fully heals this time around. Peyton Burdick replaced Sanchez, who did not get an at-bat before exiting the game.
May 13, 2023
Exits with apparent injury
Sanchez left Saturday's game against the Reds with an apparent leg injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez returned to the lineup Saturday after tweaking his hamstring Wednesday, but he only made it through half an inning. He made a diving play in right field to save a run for the third out of the first inning but came up limping. He walked back to the dugout under his own power but was replaced by Peyton Burdick. It remains to be seen if Sanchez suffered a setback with his hamstring or if he's dealing with a new injury.
May 13, 2023
Back in action
Sanchez (hamstring) will bat fifth and play right field Saturday against the Reds, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez tweaked his hamstring Wednesday against Arizona and did not start Friday's series opener, though he did appear off the bench. He'll be involved from the start Saturday and will look to build on his .390/.405/.780 line over his last 13 games.
May 12, 2023
Available off bench
Sanchez (hamstring) is expected to be available off the bench for the Marlins on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez just tweaked his right hamstring during Wednesday's game in Arizona, so it would seem to be a good sign that he's already available off the bench, if needed. He's been red-hot at the plate of late and it would appear he has a good shot to avoid the injured list.
May 12, 2023
Not in lineup Friday
Sanchez (hamstring) isn't starting Friday against the Reds, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez exited Wednesday's game against Arizona due to an apparent right hamstring injury and will be out of the lineup for at least one matchup. His injury comes in the midst of a stellar stretch in which he's hit .476 with two homers, six doubles, six RBI and four runs over his last five games. Sanchez is considered day-to-day for now, and Peyton Burdick will take over in right field and bat seventh Friday.
May 10, 2023
Exits with apparent leg injury
Sanchez was lifted from Wednesday's game in Arizona with an apparent right hamstring injury, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez doubled to lead off the top of the ninth inning but apparently tweaked his hamstring in the process. He also had a three-run homer earlier in the game as he continued his red-hot hitting, but now it looks like he might be sidelined a while.
May 9, 2023
Doubles twice in loss
Sanchez went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez provided the Marlins' only extra-base knocks off Arizona ace Zac Gallen, giving the outfielder four (three doubles and one home run) over Miami's past three contests. After beginning the season as Miami's fourth outfielder, Sanchez now looks to be secure in a regular role against right-handed pitching while Avisail Garcia (back) is on the injured list. Even when Garcia returns, Sanchez could stick in the lineup over both him and Bryan De La Cruz. Sanchez owns an .820 OPS for the season, while De La Cruz (.640) and Garcia (.576) have been far less productive.
May 7, 2023
Back in lineup versus righty
Sanchez will start in right field and bat cleanup Sunday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Sanchez was on the bench in each of the Marlins' last three games, but all of those absences came against lefties. He'll be back in the starting nine Sunday against Cubs right-hander Hayden Wesneski, and while Avisail Garcia (back) is on the shelf, Sanchez looks as though he'll occupy the strong side of a platoon with Garrett Hampson in the corner outfield.
May 4, 2023
Sitting versus lefty
Sanchez is out of the lineup Thursday versus Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Bryan De La Cruz is starting in left field and Garrett Hampson is in right with left-hander Dylan Dodd set to toe the rubber for Atlanta. Sanchez will grab some rest after going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer Wednesday.
May 4, 2023
Pops second homer
Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 14-6 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old outfielder was one of the few bright spots for the Marlins in the rout, but his seventh-inning shot off Dylan Lee came when his team was already down 13-4. Sanchez has flipped the switch over the last week to erase a sluggish start to the season, and over his last eight games he's batting .391 (9-for-23) with both his homers on the year.
Apr 30, 2023
Hits bench versus lefty
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He'll take a seat with southpaw Justin Steele on the mound for the Cubs, but the lefty-hitting Sanchez may have established himself as a regular in the lineup versus right-handed pitching over either of Bryan De La Cruz and Avisail Garcia. Sanchez started in each of the Marlins' last four matchups against righties in a corner-outfield spot and went 4-for-13 with two extra-base hits, a stolen base, three runs and four RBI. Meanwhile, De La Cruz and Garcia both sat out two times apiece during that stretch.
Apr 28, 2023
Third straight start
Sanchez is making his third straight start Friday as the Marlins take on the Cubs, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez hit his first home run of the season Wednesday and had another hit Thursday to earn a third straight start. He and his teammates will be going up against Marcus Stroman.
Apr 12, 2023
In Wednesday's lineup
Sanchez is starting in right field and batting seventh for the Marlins in Wednesday's game versus the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
It's Sanchez's first start in five games even though the Marlins have faced four righties over that stretch and Avisail Garcia (hamstring) hasn't played since Sunday. He's just 2-for-15 at the plate so far this season.
Apr 10, 2023
Swipes bag in Sunday's win
Sanchez went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base after replacing Avisail Garcia (hamstring) in right field in the fourth inning of Sunday's win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has sputtered out of the gate at the plate, going 2-for-14 in sporadic action without an RBI, but he has drawn four walks and stolen two bases. It's not yet clear how much time Garcia might miss, but Sanchez could be the biggest beneficiary if the veteran outfielder lands on the IL.
Apr 5, 2023
Steals bag in Wednesday's start
Sanchez went 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
He struck out in his other two at-bats, but Sanchez was able to make a contribution in the second inning as he was the only Marlin to successfully steal a base on three attempts on the afternoon. The 25-year-old has started only three of seven games so far and gone just 1-for-9 at the plate, taking a back seat to Bryan De La Cruz in Miami's outfield rotation, but if Jazz Chisholm (shoulder) misses any time due to a stinger he suffered on his own caught stealing Wednesday, Sanchez could get a short-term boost in his playing time.
Mar 26, 2023
May be headed for bench role
Sanchez is expected to be included on the Marlins' 26-man Opening Day roster, but he could serve as a bench bat rather than a regular starter, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Though he cut down his strikeout rate from 31.1 percent in 2021 to 26.8 percent in 2022, Sanchez's power output (.189 ISO in 2022, .238 ISO) took a major step back from the season prior. Sanchez has slashed a credible .302/.333/.419 through his first 18 games of Grapefruit League play and looks to have done enough to break camp with the big club, but with Jazz Chisholm (arm) making the full-time move to center field and with Jorge Soler seeing more work in the corner outfield spot opposite Avisail Garcia as spring training winds down, Sanchez looks as though he'll have to settle for a reserve role. If the Marlins aren't willing to open up a regular spot in the outfield for Sanchez, he may struggle to find playing time off the bench, given that his left-handedness won't make him a candidate to fill a short-side platoon role.
Mar 16, 2023
Appears set for starting role
Sanchez remains the favorite to begin the season as the starting left fielder for the Marlins, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miami has a lot of moving parts in its outfield which complicate the picture, however. Avisail Garcia seems set in right field, but Jazz Chisholm is having a bit of a bumpy transition to center field when it comes to his defense, which could prompt the Marlins to keep multiple backup options on the Opening Day roster. Sanchez is out of minor-league options, which gives him an edge over Bryan De La Cruz for the left-field job, but either could step in for Chisholm in center if necessary. Jorge Soler, the regular designated hitter, can also handle corner outfield duties. Sanchez has gone 9-for-27 this spring with four doubles and three stolen bases, but his 1:8 BB:K suggests the plate discipline issues that have dogged him in the majors haven't yet been solved.
Feb 26, 2023
Swipes bag in spring opener
Sanchez went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old outfielder has only one career stolen base on two attempts in 172 MLB games, so normally a random spring steal wouldn't mean much. However, Sanchez has a solid sprint speed that was in the 71st percentile in 2021 according to Baseball Savant, and the league's rule changes to benefit the running game could allow players like him to make a contribution in the category and add a little more juice to their fantasy value. First though, Sanchez will have to prove he can get on base enough to take advantage of those rule changes after managing a career .221/.291/.423 slash line to date.
Oct 4, 2022
Homers in loss
Sanchez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez provided all the offense for Miami in this one, launching a solo home run off Jake Odorizzi in the bottom of the fourth inning. The homer was his 13th of the season and first since returning to the big leagues Sept. 29. In three games since getting called up, Sanchez has gone 4-for-8 with a home run, two doubles and two RBI.
Oct 4, 2022
Three hits in Monday's win
Sanchez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Monday's 4-0 win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old has had a tough season in the majors overall, slashing .212/.275/.394 through 96 games with 12 homers and 34 RBI, but Sanchez will get another couple chances to head into the offseason on a high note. The Marlins' outfield picture remains very unsettled, and Sanchez is by no means out of the team's plans for next year despite his disappointing 2022.
Oct 1, 2022
Not starting Saturday
Sanchez will sit Saturday against the Brewers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was recalled Friday and joined the lineup as the designated hitter, going 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. Bryan De La Cruz will fill that spot Saturday with lefty Aaron Ashby on the mound for Milwaukee.
Sep 30, 2022
Hitting fifth Friday
Sanchez is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth Friday against the Brewers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez, who was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, will be making his first MLB appearance since Aug. 2. He hit .308/.399/.465 with six home runs, a 21.3 percent strikeout rate and an 11.5 percent walk rate in 42 games at Triple-A after struggling to a .205/.271/.387 line in 93 games in the majors.

Called up by Marlins
Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was sent to the minors in early August but will have a chance to contend for playing time over the next week now that the Triple-A campaign is over. The 24-year-old slashed .308/.399/.465 with six homers, 30 runs, 27 RBI and four stolen bases over 42 minor-league games following his demotion, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him carve out at-bats over the final few games of the big-league season.
Aug 4, 2022
Officially demoted
Sanchez was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has retained a large-side platoon role in the Marlins' outfield of late, but he's hitting just .175/.290/.300 across his last 30 games. Edward Cabrera and Nick Neidert were both promoted to Miami in a series of moves made by the team Thursday. The move should also solidify consistent playing time for Peyton Burdick, JJ Bleday and Bryan de La Cruz in the Marlins' outfield.
Aug 4, 2022
Demotion incoming
Sanchez is expected to be optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville ahead of Friday's game against the Cubs, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has recently seen his playing time dwindle, and he'll now make his way to the minors. The 24-year-old has a .205/.271/.387 slash line with 12 home runs and 33 RBI in 325 plate appearances this season. Prospect Peyton Burdick is set to be promoted by the Marlins for his MLB debut, per Mish.
Aug 3, 2022
On bench against left-hander
Sanchez isn't in the lineup Wednesday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has started against just eight left-handed pitchers this season, and he'll get a breather with southpaw Mike Minor on the mound Wednesday. JJ Bleday will shift to left field while Billy Hamilton starts in center.
Jul 29, 2022
Playing time drops
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old has operated as Miami's starting center fielder all season, but J.J. Bleday is making his sixth straight start in center Friday. Sanchez has an .838 OPS through the first seven games of the second half, but overall he's struggled this season with a .207/.272/.396 slash line. He should continue to see some playing time in left field -- especially while Jorge Soler (back) and Jon Berti (groin) are on the IL -- though it appears Sanchez's time as an everyday starter is now in the rearview mirror, at least for the time being.
Jul 28, 2022
Day off Thursday
Sanchez is not in the starting lineup Thursday against the Reds, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez will get a day off after he went 2-for-7 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored over the last two contests. Bryan De La Cruz will take over in left field and bat seventh in the series finale.
Jul 25, 2022
Takes seat Monday
Sanchez isn't in the lineup Monday against the Reds, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Most of Sanchez's starts this season have come against right-handed pitchers, and he'll get a breather with southpaw Nick Lodolo on the mound for the Reds on Monday. JJ Bleday is starting in center field while Bryan De La Cruz takes over in left.
Jul 23, 2022

Sanchez (personal) will start in center field and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Phillies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez makes his return to the lineup for the final game before the All-Star break after he had been away from the Marlins for the previous three contests while tending to a personal matter. Bryan De La Cruz will head to the bench as Sanchez checks back into his usual spot in center field.
Jul 16, 2022
Still not starting
Sanchez (personal) isn't starting Saturday against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez is out of the lineup for a third consecutive game while tending to a personal matter, but he's appeared off the bench during the last two games. Bryan De La Cruz is starting in center field and batting seventh Saturday.
Jul 15, 2022
Out of lineup again Friday
Sanchez (personal) remains out of the Marlins' lineup Friday versus the Phillies, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports.
ANALYSIS

Jul 14, 2022
Late scratch Thursday
Sanchez (personal) was a late removal from Thursday's lineup against the Pirates, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was originally set to start in center field and bat sixth Thursday, but he was scratched with a personal matter. Billy Hamilton will replace him in center and bat ninth in the series finale.
Jul 12, 2022
Production trending down
Sanchez went 0-for-3 with a walk in Monday's 5-1 loss to the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
According to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald, Sanchez will remain in the lineup Tuesday as the Marlins' No. 6 hitter for the second game of the series with Pittsburgh, but the outfielder could probably use some time off in the near future while he continues to slump at the dish. Dating back to June 22, Sanchez has turned in a deplorable .143/.239/.270 slash line to go with two home runs, five RBI, five runs and no stolen bases over a stretch of 18 games.
Jun 26, 2022
Two-run homer in loss
Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez sent Jesus Aguilar home on a fourth inning home run that cut the Mets' lead to one run. The outfielder has been hot lately, with at least one hit in five of his last six games. Sanchez has two home runs in his last four games. He is slashing .250/.271/.554 in June and has a .227 batting average on the season.
Jun 23, 2022
Takes seat against lefty
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Since the lefty-hitting Sanchez could be in need of a breather following a recent stint on the COVID-19-related injured list and with a lefty (Kyle Freeland) on the mound for Colorado, the Marlins will withhold the 24-year-old from the starting nine in the series finale. The righty-hitting Bryan De La Cruz replaces Sanchez in center field.
Jun 22, 2022
Homers in return
Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and an additional run during Tuesday's 9-8 win against Colorado.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez returned from the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday and wasted little time going deep for the ninth time this season. The 24-year-old has slowed down after a hot start to the campaign and has a .228/.272/.435 slash line with 25 RBI and 27 runs through 56 games.
Jun 21, 2022
Back from COVID-19 IL
Sanchez (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list and is starting in center field and batting sixth Tuesday versus the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old was sidelined the past four games while on the COVID-19 IL, but he cleared the league's protocols and will rejoin the lineup for Tuesday's contest. Sanchez struggled in the eight games preceding his absence with a .444 OPS.
Jun 17, 2022
To COVID-19 IL
Sanchez is headed to the COVID-19 injured list Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez and Jesus Aguilar are dealing with "medical issues" that manager Don Mattingly "can't talk about", so the situation is pretty clear. Miami will announce the roster replacements closer to first pitch Friday. Bryan De La Cruz figures to see an uptick in playing time while Sanchez is out.
Jun 17, 2022
Not starting Friday
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old started the past four games and will head to the bench after going 2-for-15 with one run and one stolen base. Bryan De La Cruz will man center field and bat ninth Friday in Sanchez's place.
Jun 14, 2022
Swipes first bag
Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in an 11-9 win Tuesday in Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez singled, stole second base and scored in Miami's four-run first inning. It was his first stolen base as a big leaguer. The 24-year-old has struggled of late, going 3-for-23 over his last seven contests. He was pinch-hit for in the eighth when lefty Brad Hand entered. On the season just 5-for-38 with no walks or extra-base hits and 17 strikeouts against southpaws.
Jun 11, 2022
Out against lefty
Sanchez is not in Saturday's lineup against the Astros, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
He will head to the bench with lefty Framber Valdez on the hill for Houston. Garrett Cooper was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday, so Sanchez should at least play against all righties in the short term and he may get the odd start against lefties as well.
Jun 9, 2022
Big game in return
Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and three RBI in a 7-4 win Thursday over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez drove in a run with his first-inning double and came around to score later in the inning. In the fifth, his two-run two-out homer ended Stephen Strasburg's night. Sanchez sat out Wednesday's game after tweaking his back in Tuesday's contest. The 24-year-old has found his power stroke of late, going 10-for-30 with two doubles and four homers in his last nine games.
Jun 9, 2022
Returns to lineup
Sanchez (back) is starting Thursday against the Nationals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez exited Tuesday's game with upper-back tightness and didn't appear in Wednesday's win over Washington. However, he'll start in center field and bat fifth in Thursday's series finale. Over his last four games, the 24-year-old went 2-for-11 with a homer, a double, three RBI, two runs and two strikeouts.
Jun 8, 2022
Idle due to back injury
Sanchez (back) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins will give Sanchez at least one game off to recover from his bout with upper-back tightness, an injury he sustained in Tuesday's 12-2 win. Bryan De La Cruz will replace Sanchez in center field.
Jun 7, 2022
Exits with back tightness
Sanchez was removed from Tuesday's game against the Nationals due to upper-back tightness, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez played the field during the first two innings but was pulled in favor of a pinch hitter during the bottom of the second. The severity of the injury remains unclear, so Sanchez should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status.
Jun 2, 2022
On bench Thursday
Sanchez isn't starting Thursday's game against the Giants, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has a .263 OPS against left-handed pitchers this year, and he'll retreat to the bench with southpaw Alex Wood on the mound for the Giants on Thursday. Bryan De La Cruz is starting in center field and batting seventh.
Jun 2, 2022
More production at Coors Field
Sanchez went 4-for-8 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez collected three hits in the earlier contest and followed that up with his sixth home run of the season in the second matchup. He enjoyed his time at Coors Field, collecting two home runs with four RBI and three runs scored across three games. However, prior to his trip to the hitter-friendly environment, Sanchez had just six hits across his last 26 at-bats while striking out at a 39.3 percent clip. For the season, he has maintained a .232/.287/.419 line across 167 plate appearances.
May 31, 2022
Crushes longest homer of 2022
Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 7-1 loss to the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
His second-inning blast off Ryan Feltner landed on the concourse beyond the upper deck down the right-field line, with a Statcast measurement of 496 feet making it the longest homer of 2022 to date, and the longest ever hit in Coors Field by a left-handed hitter. Only a 504-foot monster shot by Giancarlo Stanton in 2016 traveled further. Sanchez was batting .151 in May prior to the rocket, and on the season he's saddled with a .218/.277/.395 slash line, five homers, 14 RBI and 18 runs through 43 games.
May 28, 2022
Not in Saturday's lineup
Sanchez isn't starting Saturday against Atlanta, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has gone 1-for-12 with a double, two walks and seven strikeouts over the last four games, and he'll get a breather after drawing seven straight starts. Bryan De La Cruz will shift to center field while Brian Anderson starts in right.
May 18, 2022
Belts fourth homer
Sanchez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run after replacing Bryan De La Cruz (forearm) in the fifth inning of Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez took Steve Cishek deep in the sixth for what proved to be the game-winning run. The homer was his fourth of the season and first since April 21, and the 24-year-old slashed a rough .113/.192/.141 in the 21 games between long balls. Despite the slump, Sanchez remains Miami's primary option in center field, particularly if De La Cruz's injury sidelines him for any length of time.
May 17, 2022
Remains on bench
Sanchez will sit for the second straight game Tuesday against the Nationals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez isn't dealing with any reported injury, so it's possible his absence is performance-related. He's hitting just .207/.270/.345 on the year and a miserable .095/.174/.111 over his last 19 contests. Bryan De La Cruz will make a second straight start in center field in his absence.
May 16, 2022
Takes seat Monday
Sanchez isn't starting Monday against Washington, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has hit just .077 with five runs, two walks and eight strikeouts over the last seven games, and he'll get a breather in Monday's series opener against the Nationals. Bryan De La Cruz will start in center field and bat seventh.
May 7, 2022
Not in Saturday's lineup
Sanchez will sit Saturday against the Padres, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez started against the first two lefties the Marlins faced this season, but his off day here against southpaw Sean Manaea means he's now been on the bench against each of the last four. Bryan De La Cruz will get the start in center field.
May 4, 2022
Day off Wednesday
Sanchez isn't starting Wednesday against Arizona, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old hasn't started against a left-handed pitcher since April 12, and he'll get a breather with southpaw Madison Bumgarner on the mound Wednesday. Over the last three games, Sanchez went 1-for-11 with two doubles, a walk and four strikeouts. Bryan De La Cruz will start in center field and bat eighth.
Apr 30, 2022
Not starting Saturday
Sanchez will sit Saturday against Seattle, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez hits the bench as the Marlins go with nine right-handers against lefty Robbie Ray. He's now been on the bench against the last three southpaws the Marlins have faced. Bryan De La Cruz will be the center fielder in his absence.
Apr 28, 2022
Resting Thursday
Sanchez will sit Thursday against the Nationals, Joe Frisaro of ManOnSecondBaseball.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez hits the bench as the Marlins go with an all-righty lineup against lefty Patrick Corbin. Bryan De La Cruz will get the start in center field.
Apr 22, 2022
Notches another multi-hit game
Sanchez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and three total runs scored in Thursday's 5-0 victory versus St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez had a four-game streak of multi-hit efforts snapped in his previous contest, but he got right back on track Thursday. The 24-year-old scored in each of the second and fourth frames before launching a 428-foot solo homer in the sixth. Sanchez's blazing start to the campaign includes a .356/.396/.667 slash line, three homers, nine RBI and nine runs.
Apr 17, 2022
Three hits and two RBI
Sanchez went 3-for-6 with two RBI and a run scored in an 11-3 win Sunday over Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez had RBI singles in the second and eighth and singled and scored in the fourth. The center fielder batted second in the Miami lineup and recorded a multi-hit game for the fifth time in the last six games, hitting .407 in that span. The 24-year-old is off to an impressive start to the season and has hit for both power and average.
Apr 16, 2022
Not starting Saturday
Sanchez isn't starting Saturday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez had started in each of the first seven games of the year, and he hit .310 with two homers, two triples, a double, six RBI and five runs. Although the 24-year-old has started against two southpaws early in the season, he'll take a seat Saturday while the Marlins exclusively start right-handed hitters against lefty Ranger Suarez. Bryan De La Cruz will start in center field and bat seventh.
Apr 16, 2022
Big night in win over Phillies
Sanchez went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's 7-1 win over the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Every Marlins starter collected at least one hit, but Sanchez provided the heart of the offense on the night. The 24-year-old has four multi-hit performances in the last five games, pushing his slash line to begin the season to .310/.333/.690 with a double, two triples, two homers, six RBI and five runs.
Apr 12, 2022
Smacks two long balls
Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in a 6-2 loss to the Angels on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Miami's offense was silent aside from Sanchez, who homered in the fourth and ninth innings to account for both Marlin runs and two of the team's three hits. The 24-year-old now has multiple hits in consecutive games and is slashing .313/.353/.688 in 16 at-bats this season.
Apr 4, 2022
Begins year as top center fielder
Sanchez will open the season as the Marlins' everyday center fielder, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Heyman, the Marlins had been canvassing the trade market for potential options in center field this offseason, but Sanchez's solid spring has apparently but any pursuit of an upgrade on the backburner. Though he's managed an underwhelming .648 OPS in Grapefruit League play, Sanchez has handled center field capably on defense to secure his spot atop the depth chart. Sanchez has hit out of the No. 3 spot in his most recent three spring starts and appears likely to occupy that slot int he order once the regular season gets underway.
Apr 1, 2022
Back in action Friday
Sanchez (chest) is starting in center field and batting third in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has been sitting out spring games this week due to intercostal soreness, but he's now on track for Opening Day after rejoining Friday's lineup. The 25-year-old hit .251/.319/.489 with 14 home runs and 36 RBI in 64 games last season and is poised to work as Miami's everyday center fielder in 2022.
Mar 30, 2022
Aiming for weekend return
Manager Don Mattingly said Wednesday that Sanchez is dealing with intercostal soreness and could rejoin the Marlins' Grapefruit League lineup Friday against the Astros or Saturday against the Nationals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mattingly provided the update on Sanchez's condition after the outfielder was withheld from Tuesday's game against the Mets due to the injury cropping up. The Marlins are off Wednesday but will still hold a team workout, so what Sanchez is able to do in those drills may dictate when he re-enters the spring lineup. Assuming he's good to go for Opening Day, Sanchez is projected to begin the season as the Marlins' everyday center fielder.
Mar 29, 2022
Managing soreness
Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Sanchez won't play in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets due to unspecified soreness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Mattingly downplayed the issue and suggested the Marlins are just taking extra caution with Sanchez, whom the skipper said is in line to serve as the team's everyday center fielder in 2022. Sanchez is expected to check back into the lineup Thursday against the Cardinals following the Marlins' off day Wednesday.
Mar 20, 2022
Gets start in center Saturday
Sanchez got the start in center field during Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins still don't have a clear starter in center field, so Sanchez will be one of a number of players who rotates through the position this spring as manager Don Mattingly tries to sort out his best lineups. Bryan De La Cruz might be the favorite to handle the bulk of the action in center this season, but Sanchez and Avisail Garcia, plus utility player Jon Berti and non-roster invitees Roman Quinn and Delino DeShields, will also gets looks in camp.
Oct 1, 2021
Done for season
Sanchez (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was removed from Thursday's contest as a precautionary measure due to the hamstring strain, and he'll end up missing the final three games of the season. The 24-year-old hit .251/.319/.489 with 14 homers, 36 RBI and 27 runs in 64 games this season, and he'll have four full months to get healthy before the start of spring training.
Sep 30, 2021
Pulled as precaution
Sanchez was pulled from Thursday's game with right hamstring tightness as a precaution, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was removed early in the contest and the severity of the issue was unclear at that time. While manager Don Mattingly didn't commit to a return to the lineup for Sanchez, it appears there is at least a chance he will draw another start prior to the close of the regular season.
Sep 30, 2021
Exits with hamstring tightness
Sanchez exited Thursday's game against the Mets with right hamstring tightness, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was removed early in the game and could miss the final weekend of the regular season. If that's the case, he'll end the campaign with a .251/.319/.489 line -- good for a 116 wRC+ and .339 wOBA -- across 251 plate appearances. Bryan De La Cruz took over in field after Sanchez was removed.
Sep 29, 2021
Blasts 14th home run
Sanchez went 2-for-6 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run between both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader loss to the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez put the Marlins on the board in the second game of the twin bill, when he drove Trevor Williams' pitch 445 feet to right field. The 23-year-old rookie has been on fire in September, slashing .273/.350/.591 with eight home runs, 19 RBI and 15 runs in 24 games.
Sep 20, 2021
Goes deep in victory
Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Monday's victory against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
The rookie went deep off of Erick Fedde in the third inning, scoring Bryan De La Cruz in the process. The outfielder has now collected multiple hits in four of his last eight contests. Over those eight games, Sanchez batted .355 with four homers and 10 RBI.
Sep 15, 2021
Plays hero Wednesday
Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old hit a game-tying two-run homer in the sixth inning, then put Miami ahead for good in the ninth with another two-run blast. Sanchez has turned up the power recently with five long balls in his last six games. The outfielder owns a .242/.310/.495 slash line with 12 round-trippers, 31 RBI, 20 runs scored and a pair of triples through 199 plate appearances overall.
Sep 12, 2021
Collects three hits in loss
Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and two RBI in Sunday's 5-3 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez knocked a solo shot off Max Fried in the second inning, his 10th long ball of the season and third in his last three games. He improved his season slash line to .241/.310/.476 with 18 extra-base hits and 26 RBI through 187 plate appearances. The rookie outfielder hasn't quite lived up to the 1.059 OPS he posted with Triple-A Jacksonville this season, but he's showing flashes of that potential with real in-game power.
Sep 12, 2021
Swats ninth homer
Sanchez went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Saturday against Atlanta in a 6-4 victory.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez's eighth-inning solo shot was the second of a back-to-back set with fellow outfielder Bryan De La Cruz. The 23-year-old has slugged nine homers on the campaign, with five coming over his past 12 games. He also has 12 RBI over that span, though he has struck out 17 times in 42 at-bats.
Sep 3, 2021
Hammers three-run shot
Sanchez went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, two runs scored and a walk in Friday's 10-3 win over Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez went deep off Kyle Gibson in the first inning with a three-run blast, his seventh of the year. He was intentionally walked in the sixth and came around to score as part of a seven-run inning by Miami. Over his last five appearances, the rookie outfielder has gone 5-for-14 (.357) with three home runs and eight RBI. Sanchez is sporting a .770 OPS through 153 plate appearances this season.
Aug 29, 2021
Homers in second straight game
Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez launched a two-run shot off Tyler Mahle in the first inning and it was enough to guide Miami to a win in the low-scoring affair. It was the sixth homer of the year for the rookie outfielder and his second in as many games. The 23-year-old is 8-for-43 (.186) in August, lowering his season slash line to .238/.299/.444 through 137 plate appearances.
Aug 29, 2021
Mashes fifth homer
Sanchez went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old supplied the big blow in a five-run first inning with a three-run shot off Vladimir Gutierrez, Sanchez's fifth homer of the year. He's been struggling to find his timing since coming off the COVID-19 list in mid-August, however, slashing .175/.267/.400 over his last 12 games with a 4:14 BB:K.
Aug 21, 2021
Takes seat Saturday
Sanchez is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
After an 0-for-3 effort Saturday, Sanchez is hitting .286 with five extra-base hits and four RBI in his last 10 games. Bryan De La Cruz shifts to right field Saturday, with Jorge Alfaro getting the start in left.
Aug 19, 2021
Belts fourth homer
Sanchez went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 11-9 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
After going hitless in the first two games of the series following his return from the COVID-19 injured list, Sanchez went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Wednesday before hitting a two-out home run in his final at-bat of the night in the ninth inning. Over 100 plate appearances in the majors this season, Sanchez is slashing a modest .245/.290/.426, but that will probably be enough for him to stick in an everyday role in the corner outfield for the rebuilding Marlins.
Aug 16, 2021
Back in action
Sanchez was activated off the COVID-19 injured list Monday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez wound up spending a full month on the injured list, but he's ready return after going 4-for-12 with a homer and three walks across four rehab games. He'll bat cleanup and play right field against Atlanta in his return to action.
Aug 11, 2021
Starting rehab assignment
Sanchez (COVID-19 injured list) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez has been on the COVID-19 IL since mid-July, and he entered the return-to-play protocol in late July. Although the 23-year-old has been participating in workouts recently, he'll still require some time in the minors prior to rejoining the Marlins. Sanchez is expected to serve as Miami's starting left fielder once he's reinstated from the injured list.
Jul 27, 2021
Gearing up for return
Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday that Sanchez (COVID-19 injured list) has entered the return-to-play protocol, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mattingly's comments suggest that Sanchez has completed a quarantine period and is ready to participate in full baseball activities after having been shut down for the past week and a half. The young outfielder may need a few days' worth of workouts to regain conditioning, and he could be sent out on a short minor-league rehab assignment before the Marlins reinstate him from the IL. Once he gets the green light to rejoin the big club, Sanchez could settle back in as Miami's everyday left fielder.

Placed on injured list
Sanchez (undisclosed) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins didn't provide an injury designation or specify which list Sanchez was placed on, so he may be on the COVID-19. If that's the case, the 23-year-old could rejoin the team as soon as he clears the health and safety protocols. Garrett Cooper should see more run in the outfield while Sanchez is unavailable.

First career three-hit game
Sanchez went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two runs scored in Sunday's 7-4 win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
The left fielder came up a home run shy of the cycle in his first career three-hit game. Sanchez has seen regular playing time since he was called up June 15. The 23-year-old has a .265/.315/.434 slash line with three home runs, nine RBI and six runs scored through 23 contests, and he's even managed to trim his strikeout rate down to 27.0 percent.
Jul 10, 2021
Not in Saturday's lineup
Sanchez will sit for Saturday's game against Atlanta, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez hasn't done much at the plate in 21 games this season, hitting .221/.277/.364 with three homers. Adam Duvall slides to left field in his absence, with Garrett Cooper starting in right.
Jul 8, 2021
Socks third homer
Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-6 win over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
His solo shot off Mitch White in the second inning gave the Marlins an early 2-0 lead. Sanchez snapped a 12-game power drought with the blast, and the 23-year-old is slashing .243/.303/.400 through 19 contests with three homers and nine RBI since his promotion.
Jul 2, 2021
Sitting versus lefty
Sanchez is out of the lineup Friday against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was withheld from the lineup for Thursday's contest before it was postponed due to rain, and he'll remain on the bench Friday with lefty Drew Smyly starting for Atlanta. Adam Duvall and Garrett Cooper will start in the corner outfield spots for Miami.
Jul 1, 2021
Sitting Thursday
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins will rest two of their rookies in the series finale in second baseman Jazz Chisholm and Sanchez, who had started in each of the team's last 27 and 13 games, respectively. Garrett Cooper will draw a start in the corner outfield in place of Sanchez, who is hitting .235 with two home runs and seven RBI since his June 15 call-up from Triple-A Jacksonville.

Locked in as everyday player
Sanchez is expected to fill an everyday role in left field for the remainder of the season after the Marlins dealt Corey Dickerson (foot) to the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Since Dickerson's foot injury was expected to sideline him until after the All-Star break, Sanchez's playing time was already well insulated, but the trade only boosts the rookie's job security further. After posting a monstrous 1.043 OPS at Triple-A Jacksonville before earning a mid-June call-up, Sanchez's production has predictably taken a step back at the big-league level, but he's at least shown an improved approach at the dish of late. Since striking out 11 times while drawing zero walks over his first seven games with Miami, Sanchez has a 2:2 BB:K over his past four contests.
Jun 23, 2021
Swats second homer
Sanchez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old gave the Marlins an early lead by taking Ross Stripling deep in the second inning, but it was the only offense the team could muster. Sanchez has gone yard twice in the last three games and has a five-game hitting streak going after an 0-for-4 showing in his season debut, but he also has a 0:9 BB:K through those first six games.
Jun 20, 2021
Hits first big-league homer
Sanchez went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and run-scoring single during Saturday's 11-1 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez can thank some suspect Cubs' defense for his first big-league RBI, as his fifth-inning popup wound up falling on the infield grass and was later ruled a run-scoring single. His next RBI was well-earned, as he took a Rex Brothers' fastball the opposite way for his first major-league homer in the seventh inning. Sanchez has started three games since receiving the call to the big leagues Tuesday, recording two hits in 13 at-bats while striking out six times.
Jun 16, 2021
Draws second straight start
Sanchez will start in right field and bat third Wednesday against the Cardinals, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
After getting called up Tuesday following his red-hot start to the season at Triple-A Jacksonville, Sanchez picked up a start in left field and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the Marlins' 2-1 loss. He'll shift over to right field to fill in for a resting Adam Duvall on Wednesday, but expect Sanchez to pick up most of his starts in left for the time being while both Garrett Cooper (back) and Corey Dickerson (foot) are on the injured list.

Set for season debut
Sanchez will be called up by the Marlins for the first time this season Tuesday, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez projects for big raw power and big swing-and-miss issues. He only demonstrated the latter in his brief debut last year, striking at a 37.9 percent clip while going just 1-for-25 at the plate. He's fared far better in 33 games for Triple-A Jacksonville this season, striking out just 19.3 percent of the time while hitting .349 with nine homers. Exactly what kind of role he'll play at the big-league level remains to be seen, but it's likely that he'll be given a chance to show what he can do.
May 20, 2021
Unstoppable at Triple-A
Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday in Triple-A Jacksonville's 5-4 win over Norfolk.
ANALYSIS
Just over half way through the first month of the minor-league season, no hitter has been more productive than Sanchez. Incredibly, the 2-for-4 outing actually lowered the 23-year-old's batting average, which now sits at .510. A ridiculous .594 BABIP has certainly aided Sanchez, but the outfielder isn't merely getting by a cheap base knocks. Eleven of his 27 hits have gone for extra bases.
May 12, 2021
Blistering start at Triple-A
Sanchez is slashing .571/.600/1.179 with four homers and 14 RBI through seven games for Triple-A Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old is one of the hottest hitters in the minors through the first week of action. The Marlins have bypassed Sanchez for a promotion so far while trying to fill a hole in center field left by Starling Marte (ribs), but if he keeps raking, he should get another shot at the majors in the near future after a disappointing 2020 debut.

Activated and optioned
The Marlins activated Sanchez (groin) from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to their alternate training site, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez was sidelined for the last couple weeks of spring training with the strained right groin, but he looks like he'll be back to full strength when the minor-league season gets underway in May. Expect the Marlins to assign him to Triple-A Jacksonville, where he'll be able to play the outfield on an everyday basis.
Apr 2, 2021
Moves to injured list
Sanchez (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 29.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez picked up a groin strain in mid-March and was sidelined the final two weeks of camp, leading to a move to the injured list to open the season. The 23-year-old is likely to head to Triple-A Jacksonville once the minor-league season begins in May.
Mar 22, 2021
Cleared for light activity
Marlins general manager Kim Ng said Monday that Sanchez (groin) has resumed hitting off a tee and has also been cleared for light sprinting, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez is in the initial stage of a running progression after the Marlins shut him down a week ago with a right groin strain. The injury has taken Sanchez out of the mix for a spot on the Marlins' Opening Day roster, but he was never especially likely to break camp with the big club since veterans Adam Duvall and Corey Dickerson are both projected to handle full-time roles in the corner outfield to begin the season. Assuming he avoids any further setbacks in his recovery from the groin strain, Sanchez could be ready to go when Triple-A Jacksonville begins its season in May.
Mar 15, 2021
Tending to groin injury
Sanchez will begin a rehab program this week to address a lingering right groin strain, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With established veterans in Adam Duvall and Corey Dickerson expected to man the corner outfield for Miami in 2021, Sanchez wasn't a strong candidate to break camp with the big club anyway, but the groin injury should officially take him out of the running for an Opening Day roster spot. Sanchez, who hadn't made a Grapefruit League appearance since March 8, should have a good chance at being ready to go for the start of Triple-A Jacksonville's season in early May.
Sep 1, 2020
Sent to alternate camp
Sanchez was optioned to the Marlins' alternate training site Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez saw a major decrease in playing time recently as he started just one of the past five games while slashing .040/.172/.080 on the season. The 22-year-old will attempt to straighten things out at alternate camp. Jazz Chisholm was recalled in a corresponding move.
Aug 30, 2020
Fading into reserve role
Sanchez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez had started in eight of his 10 games since being called up from the Marlins' alternate training site Aug. 21, recording only one hit while striking out 10 times in 24 at-bats. Now on the bench for the third time in four games, Sanchez's time as a regular in the Miami lineup may be over.
Aug 22, 2020
Rough MLB debut
Sanchez went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday's win over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Getting the start in right field and batting eighth in his big-league debut, Sanchez was simply overwhelmed in a tough matchup against southpaw Patrick Corbin. The 22-year-old outfielder should get a longer look and could have more success against opposite-handed hurlers, but as Miami saw recently with Monte Harrison, if Sanchez can't make contact, the rest of his tools become somewhat irrelevant.
Aug 21, 2020
Making big-league debut
Sanchez is starting in right field and batting eighth Friday against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old was promoted from the alternate training site Thursday and will quickly get his first taste of major-league action. Sanchez was acquired by the Marlins in July 2019 and had a .246/.338/.446 slash line in 17 games with Triple-A New Orleans following the trade.
Aug 20, 2020
Moving to majors
Sanchez is being promoted by the Marlins on Thursday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Sanchez and fellow prospect Sixto Sanchez are both joining the big-league club Thursday for the first time. The 22-year-old outfielder reached Triple-A for the first time last season and hit .227/.311/.383 with five home runs in 35 games.
Mar 10, 2020
Headed to Triple-A
The Marlins optioned Sanchez to Triple-A Wichita on Tuesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He'll be joined in Wichita by two of the other Marlins' top position prospects in shortstop Jazz Chisholm and first baseman Lewin Diaz, who were also cut from big-league camp Tuesday. After coming over in a mid-season trade from the Rays last season, Sanchez logged 78 plate appearances for the Marlins' previous Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans, slashing .246/.338/.446.
Feb 28, 2020
Had offseason surgery
Sanchez underwent hernia surgery in the offseason and is being eased into spring training as a result, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins' No. 8 fantasy prospect missed the end of the Triple-A season in 2019 with an injury, and it's now clearer what the nature of that injury was. Sanchez, who came over from the Rays in the Nick Anderson deal last July, is expected to begin the season back at Triple-A New Orleans, but the 22-year-old could factor into the outfield mix in the majors over the summer with a quick start.
Aug 23, 2019
Pulled with hamstring issue
Sanchez was removed from Friday's game at Triple-A New Orleans due to a hamstring injury, Craig Mish of FNTSY Sports Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
The extent of Sanchez's injury is unclear at this time, so he'll be considered day-to-day until more information is revealed.
