Sitting Friday
Bae isn't in the Pirates' lineup Friday against the Marlins, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae has gone 5-for-20 with four RBI and three runs scored across his last five games, and he'll get a breather to open Pittsburgh's final series of 2023. Jared Triolo will start at second base instead while Connor Joe gets the nod at first.
Sep 27, 2023
Absent from lineup
Bae is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
He'll take a seat as the Phillies send southpaw Ranger Suarez to the hill. Nick Gonzales will man second base for the Pirates and Jack Suwinski will patrol center field.
Sep 24, 2023
Not in Sunday's lineup
Bae is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae went 4-for-11 with a double, a triple, a stolen base, four RBI and three runs while starting the previous three games, but he'll step out of the lineup Sunday. Jared Triolo will man the keystone in the series finale.
Sep 20, 2023
Heads to bench Wednesday
Bae is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Jared Triolo will start at second base and bat sixth as Jack Suwinski covers center field and hits fifth. Bae went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Tuesday's blowout loss to Chicago and is slashing just .236/.300/.314 across 343 total plate appearances this year for Pittsburgh.
Sep 17, 2023
Out of Sunday's lineup
Bae is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae started the previous 12 games and will receive Sunday off after he posted a .217/.265/.326 slash line during that span. Liover Peguero will shift to the keystone while Alika Williams starts at shortstop against New York lefty Carlos Rodon.
Sep 3, 2023
Takes seat versus lefty
Bae is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Bae will be one of several left-handed hitting Pirates who will hit the bench Sunday while the Cardinals bring southpaw Zack Thompson to the hill. With Bae sitting out, Vinny Capra will draw a start at second base and Jack Suwinski will man center field.
Sep 2, 2023
Locked into consistent role
Bae went 1-for-5 with a stolen base Friday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Bae has started all seven games against right-handed pitching since he returned from the injured list Aug. 18, and he's also started four of seven contests against southpaws. In that span, he's gone 10-for-41 with four RBI and five runs to go along with a pair of stolen bases. While unremarkable production, the Pirates appear invested in getting Bae regular at-bats, to the detriment of Liover Peguero.
Aug 26, 2023
Idle against southpaw
Bae isn't in the Pirates' lineup Saturday against the Cubs, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Lefty Jordan Wicks will start on the mound for his major-league debut Saturday, forcing the left-handed bat of Bae into the dugout. Liover Peguero will man second base in Bae's absence and bat seventh.
Aug 25, 2023
Swipes 21st bag
Bae went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base Thursday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Bae has been a near everyday player since he was activated from the injured list Aug. 18. He now has five hits across 21 at-bats since his return, with Thursday's performance also marking his his first stolen base in that span. Bae's usage of late suggests he'll have a chance to lead off against righties, and he also remains in the lineup against southpaws while playing either second base or center field.
Aug 21, 2023
Takes seat Monday
Bae is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae returned Friday from an extended stint on the injured list Friday and enjoyed a productive weekend in the Pirates' series with Minnesota. He started and served as the Bucs' leadoff hitter in all three contests, going 3-for-11 with two doubles, three walks, two runs and one RBI. Though he'll hit the bench Monday, Bae should have a relatively clear path to playing time at either second base or in center field for the rest of the season so long as health prevails.
Aug 19, 2023
On base three times in return
Bae went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk in Friday's loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Bae (ankle) returned to the lineup for the first time since July 1 and provided two hits for the punchless Bucs. When healthy, Bae has been a good source for speed with 20 steals. However, a slash line of .243/.307/.317 shows that we shouldn't expect much else from the 24-year-old second baseman.
Aug 18, 2023
Returns from IL
The Pirates reinstated Bae (ankle) from the injured list Friday.
ANALYSIS
Bae landed on the injured list with a left ankle injury in early July and will now return to the Pirates' lineup after missing a month and a half. The 24-year-old was able to get his bat going during his assignment, going 9-for-32 with a home run over nine games with Triple-A Indianapolis. However, with a .609 OPS in the majors this season, there's no guarantee Bae's hot streak carries over into the bigs. Jared Triolo was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.
Aug 2, 2023
In line for extended rehab
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Bae (ankle) will have an extended minor-league rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae, who landed on the IL on July 2 with the left ankle injury, began his rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Indianapolis and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored while playing five innings at second base. Tomczyk noted that the Pirates want Bae to get time and multiple positions prior to rejoining the big club, so the 24-year-old might not be a candidate for activation until next weekend at the earliest. Even though he'll get exposure to multiple spots, second base might be where Bae ends up seeing his most playing time once he's reinstated. Fellow rookies Liover Peguero and Nick Gonzales have been seeing time at the keystone of late, but both have struggled to keep their strikeouts in check.
Aug 1, 2023
Begins rehab assignment
Bae (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Bae has been on the shelf since July 2 and is now set to begin the final stage of his recovery process. The Pirates haven't specified how long they will keep Bae on assignment, but he figures to be ready to return during Pittsburgh's weekend series with the Brewers.
Jul 20, 2023
Will need rehab assignment
Bae (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment by late July, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae has been on the injured list since July 2 and has recently resumed taking ground balls and playing catch. He'll need a rehab assignment before being activated, which is expected to begin July 28 when the Pirates return from a road trip on the West Coast.
Jul 2, 2023
Lands on injured list
Bae was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with an unspecified injury.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run before being lifted for a pinch hitter late Saturday and has just one hit in his past 12 games, and he'll now be sidelined through the All-Star break with the undisclosed injury. Rodolfo Castro and Tucupita Marcano are likely to be the main beneficiaries of Bae's absence.
Jun 30, 2023
Sitting Friday
Bae isn't in the Pirates' lineup Friday against the Brewers
ANALYSIS
Bae is now 0-for-25 across his last 10 games, forcing him to the bench Friday against right-hander Freddy Peralta. In Bae's absence, Nick Gonzales will start at second base, and Tucupita Marcano will get the nod at shortstop.
Jun 29, 2023
Back in lineup Thursday
Bae will start at second base and bat seventh in Thursday's game against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Bae was on the bench for two of the Pirates' last four games and is slashing a miserable .150/.232/.167 thus far in June, putting his status as an everyday player on notice. If there's a saving grace for Bae, it's that fellow middle infielder Tucupita Marcano has performed similarly poor in June (.493 OPS), which has resulted in recent call-up Nick Gonzales entering the lineup in place of Marcano for three straight games. Even if Marcano is the odd man out of the three for the time being, Bae could eventually lose reps to Rodolfo Castro at the keystone if another recent call-up in Jared Triolo ends up serving as the primary replacement at third base for the injured Ke'Bryan Hayes (back).
Jun 19, 2023
Sitting versus lefty
Bae will sit Monday versus the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Bae will head to the bench as the Pirates square off with left-hander Drew Smyly on the mound Monday. Rodolfo Castro will take over at second base and bat sixth in the series opener with Chicago.
Jun 17, 2023
Swipes 20th bag
Bae went 0-for-2 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base Friday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Bae continues to maintain a regular role against right-handed pitching and has been particularly impressive across the last month. In that span, he's hitting .315 with a .378 on-base percentage, 16 runs scored and six stolen bases across 24 games. Bae has just a .083 ISO, but he's proven to be a reliable contributor with stolen bases and runs scored.
Jun 14, 2023
Sitting vs. southpaw
Bae is not in the starting lineup versus the Cubs on Wednesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae will take a seat against southpaw Drew Smyly for Wednesday's contest against the Cubs. Mark Mathias will hit eighth and play second base while Bae gets a breather.
Jun 10, 2023
Reaching base regularly
Bae went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base Friday against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Bae made an impact with his speed early in the game, reaching base on a bunt hit and forcing an errant throw by Eduardo Escobar to get a pair of runs home. He's now reached base in four consecutive games, tallying five hits in 13 at-bats while also drawing three free passes. In that span, he's also scored four runs, driven in four and swiped four bags. Bae continues to serve in a strong-side platoon role, with his playing time split between center field and second base.
Jun 6, 2023
Out of lineup Tuesday
Bae is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Bae tallied his 18th stolen base of the season in Monday's series opener versus the A's, but he'll grab some pine Tuesday with Jack Suwinski starting in center field and Rodolfo Castro covering second base.
Jun 6, 2023
Racking up stolen bases
Bae went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base Monday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Bae continues to hold a consistent strong-side platoon role in the Pirates' lineup, as he's started in 14 of the team's last 15 games against right-handed pitchers. He's had standout lines in each of the team's last two games, tallying three hits in seven at-bats while scoring a run, driving in two and swiping three bases. Bae has a decent .329 on-base percentage, which has helped him tally 18 stolen bases on 23 attempts for the campaign.
Jun 3, 2023
Out against lefty
Bae isn't starting Saturday against St. Louis, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As southpaw Jordan Montgomery prepares to start Saturday for the Cards, the left-handed bat of Bae will begin the game in the dugout. Rodolfo Castro will take Bae's place at second base and bat fifth.
May 24, 2023
On bench versus lefty
Bae is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Bae will take a seat as the Pirates face off with left-hander Martin Perez on the mound Wednesday. Rodolfo Castro will slot in at shortstop and bat sixth in the rubber match with Texas.
May 21, 2023
On bench Sunday
Bae is not in the starting lineup Sunday versus the Diamondbacks, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae will get a breather after he went 4-for-8 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in the first two games of the series. Rodolfo Castro will draw the start at second base in the rubber match with Arizona.
May 15, 2023
Becoming regular in lineup
Bae went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday's game against Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Bae delivered a single that drove in two in the third inning of Sunday's win. After previously slipping into a reserve role, Bae has now started three consecutive games and four of the last five at second base for Pittsburgh. Playing time has opened after Mark Mathias was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis while Tucupita Marcano has primarily played at shortstop in recent contests. Bae has only a .623 OPS across 117 plate appearances for the season, though he's relevant in category leagues thanks to his 14 stolen bases.
May 10, 2023
Takes seat Wednesday
Bae is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
After he had been out of the lineup for three straight games due to an ankle injury, Bae checked back into the starting nine for Tuesday's 10-1 loss and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. He didn't experience any reported setbacks coming out of the contest, but Bae will hit the bench Wednesday in any case while the Pirates and Rockies wrap up their series with a day game. Tucupita Marcano replaces Bae as the Bucs' second baseman.
May 10, 2023
Hitless in return
Bae went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Tuesday against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Bae returned from a three-game absence caused by an ankle injury Tuesday to start at second base. He's now hitless across his last 11 at-bats and has maintained only a .232 average for the season across 105 plate appearances. His playing time will be worth monitoring moving forward after the team demoted Mark Mathias to Triple-A Indianapolis Monday, potentially opening the door for Bae to play regularly at second base.
May 9, 2023
Returns to lineup Tuesday
Bae (ankle) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae will start at second base and bat ninth versus the Rockies and right-hander Connor Seabold after being limited by an ankle injury over the last handful of games. The 23-year-old has racked up 14 stolen bases on the year, though he's slashing just .239/.300/.326 across 101 plate appearances.
May 8, 2023
Remains out Monday
Bae (ankle) is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Bae will remain on the bench for a third straight game as he continues to nurse an ankle injury. With left-hander Kyle Freeland on the mound for Colorado, it's possible Bae wouldn't be in the lineup regardless of health. Chris Owings will draw the start at shortstop and bat eighth in the series opener.
May 7, 2023
Out Sunday with ankle issue
Bae (ankle) remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Bae will take a seat for the second straight game while he battles an ankle issue, though he may have been on the bench even if at full health since the Blue Jays are bringing southpaw Yusei Kikuchi to the hill for the series finale. According to Justice delos Santos of MLB.com, manager Derek Shelton said prior to Saturday's 8-2 loss that Bae was expected to be available off the bench, though Bae ultimately went unused. Bae will presumably be available again Sunday.
May 6, 2023
Day-to-day with ankle injury
Bae is dealing with a minor ankle injury but is available off the bench Saturday against the Blue Jays, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae is sitting Saturday, with Jack Suwinski starting in center field and Rodolfo Castro starting at second base. He ranks third in the majors with 14 steals, but he has been below replacement level (-0.2 fWAR) on the whole, so improved performance at the plate and in the field might be necessary for him to continue playing semi-regularly.
May 6, 2023
Swipes 14th bag
Bae went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 4-0 loss to the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
The young utility player continues to do his best Jon Berti impression, stealing his 14th base in 31 games to begin the season, with nine of them coming in the last 10 contests. Bae is also batting .333 (9-for-27) over that stretch, and while he offers little power -- he has just two homers and nine RBI on the year -- he could become more than just a one-dimensional fantasy asset if he keeps stringing together hits.
May 2, 2023
Not in lineup Tuesday
Bae is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Bae recorded his 11th steal of the season in Sunday's series finale against the Nationals, but Mark Mathias will get the start at second base as the Pirates open a three-game set Tuesday at Tampa Bay. It's a bullpen day for the Rays, so Bae probably will appear off the bench at some point.
May 1, 2023
Swipes 11th base
Bae went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a steal in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Bae led off the third inning with a base hit before swiping second and scoring on a Bryan Reynolds hit. Bae is now 11-for-12 on stolen base attempts this year, tieing him for second in the league. The 23-year-old Bae has hit well enough to maximize his stolen-base value -- he's slashing .250/.302/.350 with two home runs, nine RBI and 17 runs scored through 87 plate appearances while playing regularly at second base.
Apr 27, 2023
Runs wild in Wednesday's win
Bae went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, one RBI and three stolen bases in Wednesday's 8-1 win over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
The Pirates showed no mercy to Los Angeles catcher Austin Wynns, going a combined 6-for-6 on steal attempts, but Bae was the star of the track meet. The 23-year-old has five pilfers in the last two games against the Dodgers and is now 10-for-11 on the basepaths in 2023, tying him for second in the majors in steals behind Ronald Acuna's 13.
Apr 26, 2023
Pilfers two bags in loss
Bae went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 8-7 loss to the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Getting the start in center field and batting eighth, the utility player ran wild against Noah Syndergaard, who had trouble keeping runners close even before MLB made basestealing easier. Bae is up to seven stolen bases in eight attempts this season, but the 23-year-old hasn't done much else to make a fantasy impact, slashing .224/.288/.343 through 74 plate appearances with two homers, eight RBI and 13 runs.
Apr 21, 2023
Out of lineup Friday
Bae isn't in the Pirates' lineup Friday against Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
After snapping a three-game hitting streak Thursday, Bae will get a breather Friday against Graham Ashcraft and the Reds. Mark Mathias will take Bae's place at second base and bat seventh.
Apr 19, 2023
Takes seat against lefty
Bae is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Bae will get a seat against southpaw Austin Gomber after going 1-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's victory over the Rockies. Mark Mathias will handle second base duties and hit seventh in the series finale.
Apr 18, 2023
Productive in Monday's win
Bae went 1-for-4 with two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base Monday against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
The Pirates scored six runs in the second inning of a blowout win, and Bae contributed to the rally with a bunt single that drove in one. He then proceeded to steal third base to tally his fifth stolen bag of the season. Though Pittsburgh shifts its lineup considerably when a lefty is on the mound, Bae has been a consistence presence in the batting order regardless of handedness and has an everyday role on the team. Through 55 plate appearances, he has chipped in 10 runs scored and eight RBI despite hitting just .220/.278/.380.
Apr 16, 2023
Not in Sunday's lineup
Bae is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae started the past five games and will step out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale after he went 3-for-18 with a home run, three RBI, two stolen bases and six strikeouts during that stretch. Tucupita Marcano will take over at the keystone and bat eighth.
Apr 11, 2023
Blasts walkoff three-run homer
Bae went 1-for-5 with a walkoff three-run homer in a 7-4 victory over the Astros on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
With a pair of runners on and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Bae blistered a ball over the left-centerfield fence off Ryan Pressly to give the Pirates the win. Even while hitting just .242 with a .265 on-base percentage, Bae has shown some flashes of brilliance over the first 11 games of the season with a pair of homers, two stolen bases and six RBI over 33 at-bats.
Apr 11, 2023
Batting leadoff Tuesday
Bae is batting leadoff Tuesday against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Bae did not start Sunday or Monday, but he'll jump to the top of the Pirates' order Tuesday against Houston right-hander Cristian Javier. The versatile 23-year-old is 7-for-28 (.250) with one home run and two stolen bases through eight games this season.
Apr 10, 2023
Sitting against lefty
Bae is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Though he'll give way to the righty-hitting Mark Mathias with southpaw Framber Valdez on the mound for Houston, the lefty-hitting Bae nonetheless looks as though he'll have an even clearer runway to a near-everyday role with shortstop Oneil Cruz (fibula) expected to be sidelined for around four months following surgery. Bae had already started in seven of his Pirates' first nine games while moving between second base and center field, but he could end up seeing most of his time at the keystone moving forward while Rodolfo Castro likely serves as Cruz's primary replacement at shortstop. The 23-year-old Bae looks like an appealing pickup in mid-sized or deeper leagues for any manager looking for help in stolen bases and possibly runs, as he could be a candidate to fill Cruz's spot as the Pirates' main leadoff man versus right-handed pitching.
Apr 5, 2023
Swats first career homer
Bae went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old send a Nick Pivetta offering the other way in the second inning and just sliced it over the Green Monster, giving Roansy Contreras and the Pirates' bullpen all the run support they would need. Bae is just 3-for-14 (.214) through four games, but he's got a double and two steals in addition to Tuesday's production, and as long as he's getting consistent playing time between second base and center field, his speed and developing power should give him some fantasy value.
Apr 3, 2023
Gets Monday off
Bae is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
After recording a pair of hits, stealing two bases and scoring twice in the Pirates' Opening Day loss to the Reds last Thursday, Bae went 0-for-7 with four strikeouts over the final two games of the series. He'll be on the bench for the first time this season Monday, and while Bae isn't locked in as a regular at any one position, his ability to fill in as a middle infielder or outfielder should allow him to hold down a quasi-everyday role so long as he's reasonably productive at the dish.
Apr 2, 2023
Regular role to begin campaign
Bae went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Saturday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Bae's line was ugly, but Saturday's lineup made clear that the Pirates are prioritizing playing him every day early on this season. With lefty Nick Lodolo on the mound for the Reds, Jack Suwinski sat while Bae shifted from second base -- where he started the first game of the campaign -- to center field. Though Bae is getting extra run for the time being, he'll need to perform without the handedness advantage to maintain playing time over Suwinski in the long term.
Mar 31, 2023
Two steals in opener
Bae went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Thursday's 5-4 victory over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Bae started the game at second base before ultimately moving to center field in the bottom of the ninth inning as Canaan Smith-Njigba was lifted for a defensive replacement. Although Bae was buried in the eight hole in the order, he was in the middle of everything for the Pirates and showcased his speed when he got on base. Bae ranked in the 90th percentile in sprint speed last season according to Statcast.
Mar 30, 2023
Tapped for start at second base
Bae is starting at second base and batting eighth for the Pirates in Thursday's opener against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
He gets the call over presumed starter Rodolfo Castro, who will come off the bench. Bae put up some good numbers during his brief time with the Pirates last season and could be a stolen base threat right out of the chute.
Mar 28, 2023
To be on Opening Day roster
Bae has made the Pirates' Opening Day roster, Kevin Gorman of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae is set for super-utility duties as a player who can back up second base, shortstop and center field. He has good speed but will need regular playing time to make it count, and that is difficult to project at the moment.
Mar 26, 2023
Getting looks in center
Bae started in center field in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae began spring training competing for the starting second base job and has been fairly unimpressive by posting a .244/.295/.268 line across 43 plate appearances in Grapefruit League action. However, both Mark Mathias and Rodolfo Castro have also struggled, leaving the division of playing time at the position ambiguous as we close in on Opening Day. Bae has played in center field and shortstop throughout his minor-league career, and that versatility could lead to him earning a roster spot out of camp.
Mar 4, 2023
Competing to start at second base
Bae is in a competition with Tucupita Marcano and Rodolfo Castro to begin the 2023 season as Pittsburgh's starting second baseman, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae is among the Pirates' better prospects, and he made his big-league debut across the last two weeks of the 2022 season. He was impressive in that span by posting a .333/.405/.424 line with three stolen bases across 37 plate appearances, though Castro had a strong second half of the campaign as well. Bae hasn't hit particularly well at the start of spring training, as he has only one hit in nine at-bats while striking out four times.
Oct 3, 2022
Sitting Monday
Bae is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Bae has handled a near-everyday role since his call-up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Sept. 23 and has picked up starts at three different positions. Though he's on the bench Monday, it wouldn't be surprising if he picked up starts in the Pirates' final two games of the season.
Oct 3, 2022
Two hits, steals bag
Bae went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base Sunday against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Bae has started seven of nine games since being promoted for his major-league debut. He tallied his third stolen base Sunday and also has eight hits across 26 at-bats. Though Bae has yet to go yard, he has contributed across the box score by racking up three doubles, three runs scored and four RBI in his small sample in the majors.
Sep 28, 2022
Tallies second double
Bae went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored Tuesday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Bae got a day off Monday, but he returned to the lineup Tuesday to hit ninth and play second base. Though he tallied two hits, he came around to score in the third inning after leading off the frame by being hit with a pitch. Bae has yet to tally his first career home run, but he does have two doubles and two steals across four starts.
Sep 26, 2022
Heads to bench Monday
Bae is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Bae will take a seat after he started each of the final three games of the Pirates' weekend series against the Cubs while going 2-for-11 with a double, a walk, two RBI, a run and two stolen bases. Though Bae doesn't have a direct path to an everyday role at any one spot, his defensive versatility should help him see a decent amount of at-bats over the final week and a half of the season as he attempts to stake his claim to a full-time role in 2023.
Sep 24, 2022
Two steals in debut
Bae went 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Bae reached base twice and stole second base each time, including in the bottom of the ninth after his first career MLB hit. The 23-year-old second baseman swiped 30 bags in 38 attempts with Triple-A Indianapolis this season and he showed no signs of slowing down in his debut with the Pirates. Bae will look to use the last few weeks of the 2022 campaign to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster for 2023.
Sep 23, 2022
Starting at second in debut
Bae had his contract selected by the Pirates and will start at second base and bat eighth Friday against the Cubs, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old has been called up for his first taste of the majors and will make his debut Friday. Bae posted a .291/.364/.432 slash line with eight home runs, 53 RBI, 81 runs and 30 steals in 108 games at Triple-A this year, and he could see action at shortstop and in the outfield down the stretch, in addition to second base.
Sep 23, 2022
Promotion imminent
Bae is expected to have his contract selected by the Pirates on Friday, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae spent the all season with Triple-A Indianapolis and has a .291/.364/.432 slash line with eight home runs, 53 RBI, 81 runs and 30 stolen bases in 108 games. The 23-year-old primarily played the middle infield at Triple-A but has also seen some time in the outfield, and he'll receive his first taste of the majors down the stretch for Pittsburgh.
Aug 18, 2022
Reinstated from injured list
Bae (oblique) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae sustained an oblique strain in late July and has been kept off the field since then. He's expected to be eased into action as the designated hitter, but he'll be available once again after slashing .300/.367/.453 with eight homers, 59 runs, 41 RBI and 20 stolen bases over 83 games to begin the year.

Nearing return to game action
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Bae (oblique) should return to action for Triple-A Indianapolis or a lower-level affiliate as part of a rehab assignment within the next few days, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae is on Indianapolis' 7-day injured list due to an oblique strain, which has kept him out of commission since July 24. The 23-year-old has picked up starts in both middle-infield spots as well as left field and center field this season, but he's expected to be eased back in as a designated hitter when he's formally activated from the IL. Before being shut down with the injury, Bae was slashing .300/.367/.453 with eight home runs and 20 steals in 358 plate appearances for Indianapolis.

Back to injured list
Bae was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list due to an oblique issueThursday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae landed on the injured list in June due to a knee issue and was out for around a month. He's hit only .205 across 10 games since his return and will now be shelved again. Assuming the injury doesn't sideline him for too long, Bae could still make his big-league debut late in the season.

Reinstated from injured list
Bae (knee) was reinstated from the 7-day minor-league injured list Tuesday, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae was diagnosed with a Grade 1 MCL sprain in his knee after he was hurt in an outfield collision June 8. Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomcyk anticipated a recovery timetable of 4-to-6 weeks, but the 21-year-old will be able to return slightly sooner than expected. Bae should be available at Double-A Altoona going forward.

Out 4-to-6 weeks with knee injury
Pirates director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Bae will be sidelined for 4-to-6 weeks with a Grade 1 MCL sprain in his knee, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Double-A Altoona shut Bae down after he sustained the injury in a June 8 game. The Pirates are optimistic that the 21-year-old shortstop will be ready to return from Altoona's 7-day injured list before the end of the minor-league season, but he likely won't be available until mid-July at the earliest.

Reassigned to minor-league camp
Bae was reassigned to minor-league camp Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Bae worked with the major-league coaching staff to begin spring training but wasn't in contention for a spot on the big-league roster given his lack of experience in the minors. The 21-year-old appeared in 11 Grapefruit League games this year and went 2-for-11 with two runs, one RBI, one walk and three strikeouts.

Joins taxi squad
The Pirates announced Sunday that Bae will be included as one of 19 players on the team's taxi squad for the 2020 season, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bae is one of several top prospects from the organization that will report to the Pirates' alternative training site at their Double-A facility in Altoona when teams resume workouts in July. While Bae's inclusion on the taxi squad and the Pirates' 60-man roster pool will make him eligible to join the big club in 2020, Pittsburgh is presumably more interested in overseeing his development in a team setting rather than rushing him to the majors. He spent the 2019 campaign at Low-A Greensboro, posting an .825 OPS and 31 stolen bases across 380 plate appearances.
