Boyle (2-0) allowed three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out six over seven innings to earn the win over the Angels on Saturday.

The 24-year-old right-hander maintained a 3.84 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 168:93 K:BB over 117.1 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. There are still flaws in his game, namely allowing too many baserunners, but he could be good enough for Oakland's rotation if he shows well in spring training for 2024.

Boyle was once again impressive in his second major-league start, scattering five hits and allowing just one unearned run en route to the first quality start and win of his young career. The 24-year-old righty has yet to surrender an earned run across his first two outings, yielding just six hits and three walks while striking out nine across nine innings. Boyle currently lines up to face the Angels on the road in the final series of the regular season next week.

Boyle is listed as the Athletics' starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Tigers in Oakland, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Boyle will receive another turn through Oakland's rotation after he struck out four over three scoreless innings in his first MLB start last Sunday against the Padres. He worked in tandem with Ken Waldichuk in his big-league debut, but with Waldichuk taking the hill for Friday's contest, Boyle could have the opportunity to make a more traditional start Saturday. Though the 24-year-old right-hander doesn't possess much of a pedigree as a prospect, he made plenty of bats miss between stops at the Double-A and Triple-A levels this season prior to his call-up, striking out 168 hitters over 117.1 innings.

Boyle impressed in his MLB debut, allowing just a first-inning single to Juan Soto and two free passes while racking up four strikeouts. Boyle was touching 99 MPH with his fastball and is looking like a potential future piece for the A's after he was acquired at this year's deadline from the Reds in exchange for reliever Sam Moll. It's likely the team utilizes him in a similar role his next time out, which could come against the Tigers over the weekend.

Boyle is expected to be called up from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday to serve as the opener in the series finale against the Padres, the team's official site reports.

Boyle was a fifth-round pick of the Reds in the 2020 First Year Player Draft and ultimately made his way to Oakland via a three-team trade that sent Jace Peterson to the Diamondbacks and Sam Moll to the Reds at the deadline. The towering right-hander has impressed since arriving in the Athletics organization, making three starts apiece for Double-A Midland and Triple-A Las Vegas and posting a 2.16 ERA, 1.14 WHIP with 46 strikeouts across 33.1 innings. However, control has been an issue at times, as Boyle has also issued 18 walks over that span. The 24-year-old is likely to only work 1-to-2 innings Sunday before turning things over to Ken Waldichuk, who'd originally been slated to serve as a conventional starter Sunday but will now operate as a primary pitcher behind Boyle.
