Ryan has not yet pitched in the 2023 postseason, though he was lined up to start a potential Game 3 of the AL Wild Card Series before the Twins finished off a two-game sweep of the Blue Jays. The 27-year-old right-hander registered an underwhelming 4.51 ERA in 29 regular-season starts, but he showed improved swing-and-miss stuff and excellent command while tallying 197 strikeouts with only 34 walks across 161.2 innings.

Ryan will start Game 3 of the AL Wild Card Series versus the Blue Jays on Thursday, if necessary, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Ryan had been lined up for the start, so this doesn't come as a surprise. The Twins hope they can save him for the ALDS, of course, which they would be able to do if they are able to eliminate Toronto with a Game 2 victory. Ryan boasted a 197:34 K:BB over 161.2 innings during the regular season, but his 4.51 ERA points to the inconsistency he dealt with.

Ryan did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing six runs on eight hits and one walk over five innings against the Rockies. He struck out six.

Ryan allowed three homers on the night bringing his season total to 32, more than all but four other pitchers this season. Ryan finishes the regular season with a 4.51 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 197 strikeouts in 161.2 innings, but over his past five outings, he holds an ERA of 6.20 and a WHIP of 1.46. Ryan's inconsistencies have left a question mark for the Twins' third rotation spot for the playoffs; however, Sunday's outing likely put him as the front runner to man the role behind Sony Gray and Pablo Lopez. Ryan now owns a 4.31 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 191:33 K:BB in 156.2 innings and lines up for one final start against the Rockies.

Ryan (10-10) took the loss Monday against the Reds, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out five.

Ryan pitched Monday in what was easily his worst start of five since returning from a groin injury Aug. 26. He struggled a bit with his command as the three walks issued matched his season high. The 27-year-old has pitched to a 4.30 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 181:33 K:BB over 150.2 innings. Ryan looks to return to form in his next start, scheduled to be against the Angels at home.

After lasting just four innings last time out, Ryan got yanked after 4.2 frames Tuesday at 102 pitches. His struggles with power also continued, allowing Rene Pinto to hit a solo homer in the fifth frame to mark Ryan's 20th long ball allowed in his last 52 innings (11 starts). Over that span, the 27-year-old owns a 6.40 ERA and a 76:15 K:BB. He's expected to toe the rubber once more this week and is slated to take on the White Sox in Chicago on Sunday.

Ryan allowed only two runs on the afternoon but needed 89 pitches to get through four innings as the right-hander was replaced by Louie Varland to open the fifth. The 27-year-old has now failed to make it through five frames in three of his last five starts, though he's allowed two or fewer runs in three straight. Ryan has also lost five of his last seven decisions (spanning 10 starts), surrendering at least four runs in four of those outings.

He's currently lined up to start in Cleveland next week.

Ryan tossed a bullpen session Tuesday and came out of it with no concerns, clearing the way for his return to game action. It's not clear how many rehab starts he will need before being activated, but since he's only been out for just over two weeks it's possible he'll just require one. If that's the case, he could conceivably rejoin the Twins' rotation next week in Milwaukee or back at home versus the Rangers.

Ryan was excellent in the first half of the 2023 regular season, but he got hammered by the Cardinals on Wednesday night in St. Louis and has stumbled to an 8.63 ERA across his last seven starts covering 32.1 innings. He's given up 17 home runs across his last seven starts, the most of any Twins pitcher over a seven-start stretch in franchise history. Ryan currently lines up to work Monday's series opener at Detroit, but the Twins could push him back to a later date in that four-game set as he works on some mechanical tweaks.

It was a rough day for Ryan, but it certainly could've been even worse, as he managed still rack up seven strikeouts in only 3.2 innings. Ryan's struggled to a 7.58 ERA in four starts (19 innings) since the All-Star break, though he's struck out 34 in that span. The 27-year-old Ryan's ERA is now up to 4.06 with a 1.09 WHIP and 148:24 K:BB across 21 starts (122 innings) this season. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently lined up for next week in St. Louis.

Ryan allowed two runs through five frames before Yasmani Grandal knocked a two-run shot in the sixth inning. After posting a 2.90 ERA through 13 starts, Ryan's ERA over his last seven outings is 5.75, raising his season mark to 3.88 across 118.1 innings. Friday's win was his first since shutting out the Red Sox on June 22. Ryan is currently projected to face the Mariners at home next week.

Ryan wasn't able to settle into a groove Sunday as he tied his season high with three walks issued. Since firing a shutout June 22, he's posted a 7.71 ERA in four outings. Dating back to May 30, he's gone 1-5 with a 5.61 ERA across nine starts. Ryan will carry a 3.77 ERA into his next appearance, which is currently slated to be at home against the White Sox.

The right-hander racked up 21 swinging strikes and nine punchouts against the Royals, finishing with his fourth quality start over his past six outings. Ryan has just one win during that stretch, but he's given the Twins' pitching staff a boost by completing at least six frames in each appearance aside from the dud against Atlanta. The 27-year-old is tentatively lined up to start Minnesota's final game before the All-Star break this weekend against Baltimore.

Ryan (8-5) took the loss Tuesday as the Twins fell 6-2 to Atlanta, coughing up six runs on nine hits -- including five home runs -- over three innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.

All five homers came in the first 10 batters Ryan faced, with Ronald Acuna taking him deep twice in the first two innings. The right-hander has had some issues keeping the ball in the park as the weather has warmed up -- while he'd only served up eight long balls in total on the season coming into Tuesday, he's now been tagged for multiple homers in three of his last six starts, a stretch in which he has a 5.55 ERA despite a 1.01 WHIP and 35:5 K:BB through 35.2 innings. Ryan lines up for a much less daunting matchup in his next trip to the mound, which is likely to come at home early next week against the Royals.

Ryan dominated the Red Sox Thursday, retiring the first 10 batters he faced before surrendering a one-out single to Justin Turner in the top of the fourth. He made short work of the next two hitters before striking out the side in the fifth, all swinging, and allowed only two more base runners for the rest of the contest. his nine innings and rebounded in a huge way after allowing a season-high six runs in his previous start. It was a huge bounceback performance for Ryan after allowing a season-high six runs in his previous start while it also marked the first complete game shutout for a Twins pitcher in more than five years.

The right-hander delivered his 10th quality start of the season on 84 pitches (56 strikes), but Ryan exited the game in line for his fourth loss before Minnesota's bats came alive in the late innings. Ryan gave up two homers in the second frame, amounting to three runs for the Astros, and then surrendered a pair of runs in the third. He managed to go less than five innings for the first time all year and hadn't given up more than three earned runs since April 19. Coming into Tuesday, Ryan had allowed just four home runs, which was tied for fourth lowest in baseball among all pitchers with at least 60 innings thrown. It was a bit of an uncharacteristic night for the 27-year-old, though he still managed to generate 14 whiffs. He now holds a 2.77 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 76:13 K:BB over 65 innings and will look to get back on track in a projected home start against the Guardians over the weekend.

Ryan surrendered three straight singles to start the game and escaped the opening frame with two runs allowed. After the rocky first, he scattered four hits across five scoreless innings but still suffered his first loss, as Cleveland's pitching staff combined for a one-hit shutout. Sunday's outing marked just the third time over seven starts that Ryan has allowed multiple earned runs, and his 47:6 K:BB through 44 innings remains elite. The right-hander will look to continue his stellar beginning to the campaign next time out, which is tentatively scheduled for a three-game weekend set versus the Cubs.

Ryan allowed no runs on just one hit and two walks while striking out seven over six innings Tuesday against the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision.

Ryan was rolling through the White Sox order. He had six strikeouts through four innings and finished with at least seven strikeouts for the fourth time in six starts. The lone hit he gave up was to Gavin Sheets in the second inning. He concluded his outing with a 12-pitch battle to Tim Anderson, which ultimately ended in a walk, before he got Andrew Benintendi to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. He finished with 87 pitches and likely could have continued into the seventh, but manager Rocco Baldelli noted after the game that Ryan's velocity noticeably dropped from 93.3 MPH versus Anderson to 89.8 MPH versus Benintendi. With the heart of the order due up, Baldelli didn't want to risk putting Ryan back out on the bump when he could tell Ryan was running out of gas. The 26-year-old has been as dominant as they come so far this season. He now boasts a 2.37 ERA and is tied atop the league with a 0.76 WHIP to go with a 43:6 K:BB over 38 innings. Ryan is no longer scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Royals, as Sonny Gray is now in line to start the final contest of the Twins' homestand.

After both Gray and Ryan started on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, versus the Yankees, the right-handers both appeared on track to make two starts during the Twins' seven-game week. However, with Kenta Maeda suffering a triceps strain in his start Thursday and landing on the injured list a day later, the Twins called up Bailey Ober from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move and will quickly plug him into the rotation Saturday rather than waiting to use him the next time Maeda's turn came up. As a result, all the Twins' other four starters have been pushed back a day, resulting in only Gray getting a two-start week. Ryan should still line up for a two-step next week, as he's expected to face the White Sox on the road on Tuesday before starting the series finale in Cleveland next Sunday.

Ryan (5-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and no walks across seven innings. He struck out seven.

The right-hander surrendered single tallies during the first and fifth innings but otherwise blanked New York by scattering seven singles. Ryan dominated the zone and threw 72 of his 91 pitches for strikes, generating 14 whiffs. He's gone at least six frames in all five of his starts this season and has a 2.81 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 36:4 K:BB across 32 innings.

Ryan (4-0) earned the win Wednesday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over six innings against Boston. He struck out three.

Ryan now ranks fourth in MLB through Wednesday's games with a 0.76 WHIP. The right-hander has won all four of his starts, and also ranks eighth in the league with a .167 opponent batting average. The right-hander is tentatively slated to face the Yankees in his next start.

Ryan (3-0) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and zero walks over seven innings against the Yankees. He struck out 10.

Ryan pitched like a true ace in a hostile environment, as his only blemish on the night was giving up a solo homer to Anthony Rizzo. The former seventh-round draft pick has now recorded two straight starts with 10 strikeouts, and will look to continue his hot start to the season against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

Ryan (2-0) earned the win Saturday, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk over six innings against the Astros. He struck out 10.

The third inning was the only trouble spot for Ryan as he allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases for Yordan Alvarez, who cashed in with a grand slam. Ryan buckled down from there and was rewarded with his second win in as many starts to begin 2023. He induced a whopping 19 swinging strikes on just 81 pitches Saturday which is impressive against any team but all the more so against the reigning World Series champions. Ryan will take a 3.75 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB into a road start in Yankee Stadium next week.

Ryan (1-0) earned the win Sunday in Kansas City, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over six innings in a 7-4 victory. He had six strikeouts.

The right-hander surrendered a solo homer to Edward Olivares during the second inning, but he was otherwise in complete control against the Royals. He generated only nine swinging strikes but still managed six strikeouts. Ryan will have a much tougher test next weekend as he lines up to pitch at home versus the Astros.

Ryan has added a new slider and a split-finger pitch to serve as his changeup this spring, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "Joe's slider, to me, really stood out. I'd call it a new pitch. He may call it the same pitch and a different version of it. But that's really exciting," said manager Rocco Baldelli.

Ryan threw his fastball 60.1% of the time last season with success (.300 slugging against), but he gave up eight of his 20 home runs allowed on his slider (.497 slugging allowed). He also visited the Driveline baseball performance center to help with the new pitches. Ryan doesn't have great velocity (91.5 average mph fastball) but has an extremely deceptive four-seam fastball that helped him generate an above-average 9.2 K/9 and 12% swinging strike rate. As a fly-ball pitcher (27.7% GB%), home runs can be a worry (1.2 HR/9), so an improved off-speed repertoire could work wonders. Monitor the progress of his new pitches this spring.

Ryan (13-8) earned the win against the Tigers on Friday, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking one over six innings.

Ryan tossed 65 of 91 pitches for strikes across six frames. He allowed six baserunners, but none of them reached home. This was a bounce-back game for the righty who gave up three runs in four innings to the Angels in his last start. His Friday appearance was his third quality start in his last five games, all three of which resulted in wins. In five starts this month, Ryan ended up with a 2.20 ERA and has lowered his season ERA to 3.55.

All three of the runs Ryan allowed came in the third inning, and he was pulled after four shaky frames. The right-hander struggled with his control, issuing multiple free passes for the seventh time in his past eight starts. The walks hadn't hurt him in his previous two trips to the mound -- he pitched 14.2 scoreless innings while picking up two wins in those outings -- but they contributed to an elevated pitch count and consequently a short appearance Saturday. Ryan has shown plenty of promise this season, posting a 3.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 12-8 record while notching over a strikeout per inning.

Ryan (12-8) earned the win Sunday in Cleveland, striking out five in 7.2 innings while allowing three hits, two walks and a hit batsman.

After not allowing a hit in seven innings in his last start, Ryan didn't allow a hit Sunday until the fifth inning. He was in control throughout the game and only one baserunner reached scoring position. The 26-year-old is a strong candidate for American League Pitcher of the Week as he tossed 14.2 scoreless innings while striking out 14 and allowing three hits in two starts. His next start will likely be next weekend against the Angels.

Ryan (11-8) pitched seven no-hit innings in a win over the Royals on Tuesday. He allowed two walks and struck out nine without allowing a run.

Ryan was nearly untouchable during his time on the mound. He threw 72 of 106 pitches for strikes while inducing 13 whiffs. The high pitch count prevented him from going for a place in history, and reliever Jovani Moran lost the combined no-hit bid in an ugly ninth inning. Tuesday marked the third time in 24 starts Ryan's gone at least seven innings. It was his fourth scoreless outing of the year, lowering his ERA to 3.83 with a 1.11 WHIP and 133:41 K:BB through 129.1 innings. The 26-year-old righty is tentatively scheduled to start a key divisional matchup in Cleveland this weekend.

The right-hander continues to battle his control. Ryan has issued at least three free passes in three of his last four starts, posting a 4.64 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB through 21.1 innings over that stretch. Tuesday's game between the Twins and Yankees was postponed due to rain and Ryan will start in a doubleheader Wednesday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

He will end up getting a couple extra days of rest in between starts. Ryan had a 4.13 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 41:10 K:BB in 32.2 innings across six August starts.

Ryan (10-7) took the loss against Boston on Wednesday, tossing five innings and allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out eight batters.

All five of the runs Ryan gave up came in the third inning, when he served up a grand slam to Xander Bogaerts and a solo shot to J.D. Martinez. Though the right-hander racked up 19 swinging strikes and punched out eight batters, the poor frame was too much for Minnesota to overcome. Ryan has largely impressed this season, but he has allowed at least five runs on three different occasions, including a 10-run shelling against San Diego on July 29. He's still managed to post a decent 3.88 ERA and 1.14 WHIP while racking up 121 strikeouts over 118.1 innings overall.

Ryan (10-6) gave up two hits and three walks over six shutout innings to earn the win in a 9-0 victory over the Giants on Friday.

Ryan leaned heavily on his fastball with success. The Giants whiffed on the pitch 25% of the time and Ryan mixed in a highly-effective selection of offspeed offerings to garner 17 swinging strikes on 107 pitches. Ryan's dominant showing helped the Twins to snap a six-game losing streak. It was his first scoreless appearance since April 28 and the 26-year-old right-hander lowered his ERA to 3.65 with the performance. He is expected to make his next start against the Red Sox.

Ryan (9-6) took the loss Sunday against Texas, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out six in 6.1 innings.

Ryan retired the side in order in each of the first three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth when Marcus Semien put a 3-1 pitch into the seats for a solo homer. He held the Rangers scoreless over the next two innings and was removed with one out and a man on third in the seventh. It was the first time he pitched at least six innings in his last eight starts. He has a 4.15 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB in 21.2 innings over four starts in August. His next start will likely be at the end of next week against San Francisco.

Ryan (9-5) earned the win Monday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in a 4-2 win over Kansas City. He struck out six.

Ryan was tagged for a two-run home run in the first inning off the bat of Vinny Pasquantino but held the Royals scoreless the rest of his outing. While he recorded over a strikeout per inning with just 80 pitches through 5.1 innings, he failed to reach six innings for the seventh straight start. The 26-year-old has posted a 5.15 ERA since the beginning of July, so it seems the Twins are more actively managing his workload to help get his numbers back in line with the start of the season.

Ryan (8-5) took the loss during Tuesday's 10-3 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts in five innings.

Ryan surrendered runs in each of his first four innings to fall in line for the loss, matching a season high by putting 10 runners on base. The hiccup is the 26-year-old's second in his last three outings, though he's held the opposition to one run in five of his other six turns since the start of July. Ryan carries a 3.95 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into his next start, scheduled for next week against Kansas City.

Ryan (8-4) allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks while striking out nine across five innings to earn the win Wednesday against Detroit.

Ryan dominated the Tigers, racking up 18 swinging strikes on only 78 total pitches. It was a needed bouneback effort for Ryan, as he allowed 10 earned runs his last turn through the rotation. Setting aside that disaster, Ryan has allowed two or fewer earned runs in his five remaining starts since July 1. He now owns a 3.67 ERA with an 89:25 K:BB across 90.2 innings on the campaign.

Ryan (7-4) allowed 10 runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven over 4.2 innings, taking the loss Friday against the Padres.

The Padres teed off on Ryan, tagging him for five home runs that accounted for all but one of the 10 runs. This was just the second time he's been taken deep multiple times this year. Unsurprisingly, this was the 26-year-old's worst start of the season, which inflated his ERA from 2.89 to 3.78 through 85.2 innings in 16 starts. He'll look to keep the ball in the yard in his next projected start, which is tentatively expected to be against the Tigers next week.

Ryan (7-3) earned the win Saturday in Detroit after giving up one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over 5.2 innings.

The right-hander kept the Tigers off the board through five innings , but Riley Greene tripled in the sixth and was brought home by Javier Baez to put Detroit on the board. It's the second straight start with exactly one run allowed for Ryan, through he failed to complete six frames in either contest. He has a 2.89 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 73:23 K:BB across 81 innings and tentatively lines up to pitch next weekend in San Diego.

Ryan allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out three across 5.1 innings Wednesday against the Brewers. He did not factor into the decision.

Ryan surrendered a solo home run to Jace Peterson to account for his only earned run. He was otherwise effective, though he wasn't particularly elusive -- he induced eight swinging strikes on 78 total pitches -- and also walked more than two batters for the first time in his last seven starts. For the season, Ryan owns a 2.99 ERA and 66:22 K:BB across 75.1 frames.

Ryan allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out three across four innings Wednesday against the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision.

Ryan limited damage effectively for most of his outing, but he allowed multiple baserunners in three of his four innings. That resulted in a short start -- he needed 85 pitches to record 12 outs -- that was ultimately spoiled by a two-run homer hit by Eloy Jimenez. Ryan has been inconsistent across five starts since returning from the COVID-19 injured list, maintaining a 4.47 ERA with a 21:6 K:BB across 26.2 innings.

Ryan (6-3) earned the win against the Rockies on Sunday, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking one over five innings.

Ryan managed to escape Sunday's contest with the win despite allowing eight hits and striking out only one batter. He threw 64 of 102 pitches for strikes across five frames. Two runs came thanks to RBI doubles and the other on a solo shot from Charlie Blackmon. Ryan has lasted more than five innings five times in 11 games this season. The righty will take a 3.20 ERA into his next appearance.

Ryan gave up three earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings in a 6-5 loss to the Guardians on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.

Ryan bounced back from a poor outing the last time out against the Mariners to pitch a quality start and pick up seven strikeouts. His 101 pitches are the second highest he has thrown this season, and the three earned runs he gave up raised his ERA to an even 3.00 on the year. The rookie right-hander's 3.42 xERA and 4.47 xFIP suggest that his solid numbers to date could be in line for an adjustment higher. Look for Ryan to take the bump this weekend at home against the Rockies.

Ryan (5-3) allowed four runs on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings, taking the loss versus the Mariners on Tuesday.

Ryan threw 74 pitches (45 strikes) in the outing, but two-run home runs by Eugenio Suarez and Ty France were enough to sink him. The Twins provided virtually no support with just four hits (all singles) and two walks in the contest. Ryan has allowed more than two runs in just two of his nine starts this season, so it's safe to assume he was a bit rusty after a bout with COVID-19. He has a 2.81 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 45:15 K:BB across 48 innings this season, and he'll look to correct course next week at home versus the Guardians.

Ryan (COVID-19) was activated ahead of his start Tuesday in Seattle.

He logged three scoreless innings while throwing 40 total pitches in his rehab start with Triple-A St. Paul last Thursday. If he is efficient in his first start back, Ryan could go deep enough to qualify for the win, but that's not a given.

The Twins will activate Ryan (illness) from the COVID-19-related injured list to start Tuesday's game in Seattle, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Minnesota will get two key rotation cogs back in the fold for the series in Seattle, as Sonny Gray (pectoral) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday. The right-hander posted a 2.63 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 27.1 innings over his five starts prior to his absence.

The 26-year-old has been on the COVID-19 injured list the past two weeks, and he'll require a start in the minors before rejoining the big-league rotation. Ryan could be back with the Twins sometime next week if all goes well during Thursday's start with St. Paul.

Though Ryan is throwing again after he cleared all COVID-19-related protocols since testing positive for the virus May 25, he'll apparently need some time to build back up for starting duty after he was sidelined for nearly two weeks. Baldelli didn't specify when Ryan will begin his rehab assignment or which affiliate he'll join, but he'll presumably report to the minors later this week.

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Thursday that Ryan (illness) is "a tick behind" Gilberto Celestino (illness) in the two players' respective recoveries from positive COVID-19 tests, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Celestino has cleared all COVID-19-related protocols and is participating in a workout at Target Field on Thursday, so Baldelli's comments would seem to imply that Ryan needs at least one more negative COVID-19 test before he's able to report to the team facility. Minnesota is uncertain if Ryan will require a rehab start prior to being activated from the COVID-19 injured list, but because he's been away from the team since testing positive for the virus May 25, he'll almost certainly need an extended bullpen outing at the very least before the Twins are comfortable slotting him back in the rotation. With that in mind, Ryan seems unlikely to make a start during the Twins' upcoming three-game series in Toronto that begins Friday.

It's unclear whether Ryan has the virus or not, but nonetheless he will be forced to miss his next scheduled start Thursday versus the Royals. Devin Smeltzer was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday to fill in for him. It's possible that Ryan's absence will be limited to just one outing, but more information on his status should come Wednesday night.

Ryan was efficient, facing 24 batters and retiring 17 on just 79 pitches. In another era, Ryan may have gone deeper into the contest, but manager Rocco Baldelli decided to play the matchups in the sixth inning with the bases loaded. Ryan has allowed two runs over 11.2 innings with an 11:2 K:BB in his last two starts since his four-run hiccup against Houston back on May 10. He has a sparkling 2.28 ERA overall this season.

Ryan (4-2) allowed one run on four hits over six innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over Cleveland.

Jose Ramirez's solo shot in the fourth inning was the only damage against Ryan in the strong outing. The 25-year-old righty has now allowed fewer than three runs in six of his first seven starts this season, registering a 2.39 ERA through 37.2 innings. Ryan will carry a 36:12 K:BB into his projected outing in Kansas City next weekend.

Ryan (3-2) was tagged with the loss Tuesday after he pitched four innings, giving up four runs on four hits and five walks while striking out three against the Astros.

Ryan struggled with his command Tuesday, throwing only 56 of his 90 pitches for strikes and walking a season-high five batters. Jeremy Pena delivered an RBI groundout in the second inning and later added an RBI single in the fourth frame, accounting for the first two runs on the 25-year-old's line. The last two runs came around to score in the fifth inning without Ryan recording an out, the second of which scored score after he had left the game on a Yordan Alvarez sacrifice fly against Danny Coulombe. After giving up one total run over 19 innings with 21 punchouts in his previous three starts, the right-hander has surrendered six runs over 8.2 innings while only striking out six in his last two outings. Ryan's season-long numbers now sit at a still impressive 2.56 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with 31 strikeouts in 31.2 innings over six starts. He tentatively lines up to toe the rubber next at home Sunday against the Guardians.

Ryan tossed 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out three in the win over the Orioles on Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.

The 25-year-old allowed a season-high seven baserunners in this one, ultimately giving up two earned runs, his first runs allowed since April 15. Ryan surrendered his first run in the bottom of the fourth inning after Tyler Nevin reached on a fielding error, scoring Austin Hays from third base in the process. He allowed another run the next inning when Trey Mancini singled, bringing Cedric Mullens across to tie the contest a 2-2. Due to the fact that Ryan failed to finish the fifth inning, he did not qualify for the victory after the Twins took the lead the in the top of the sixth frame. The right-hander now sports a 1.63 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with 28 punchouts over 27.2 innings this season.

Ryan (3-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Tigers, allowing zero runs on one hit and one walk while striking out nine.

Ryan has submitted back-to-back scoreless outings and earned the victory in each of his last three starts. The 25-year-old is off to a hot start in his first full MLB campaign and currently sports a 1.17 ERA across 23.0 innings with a 25:6 K:BB. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 2 in Baltimore.

Ryan (2-1) earned the win Thursday against the Royals, allowing zero runs on two hits and one walk across six innings while striking out five.

Ryan submitted his best outing of the season and earned a win in consecutive appearances after taking the loss in his first start. The 25-year-old is off to a hot start in his first full MLB campaign and currently sports a 1.69 ERA across 16.0 innings with a 16:5 K:BB. His next start is tentatively schedule for Thursday, April 28 against the Tigers.

Ryan (1-1) earned the win Friday against the Red Sox, allowing one run on five hits and no walks across six innings while striking out seven.

Ryan was strong throughout his outing, with the only blemish being a solo shot by Alex Verdugo in the second inning. His seven strikeouts marked the second-highest total in his seven-start career. He's now given up three homers in 10 innings through his first two starts this year but hasn't allowed any other runs and has only allowed seven total hits. He's lined up to face the Royals in Kansas City next Thursday.

Ryan (0-1) allowed two runs on two hits and four walks over four innings Friday. He struck out four and was handed a loss by Seattle.

Ryan coughed up a two-run shot to Mitch Haniger in the first inning before settling in for three shutout frames. On top of walking four batters, he also hit Ty France with a pitch. The 25-year-old has never had much of a command issue as a professional, including last season when he issued just five free passes through 26.2 innings at the big-league level. Ryan is expected to take the mound in Boston next week.

Ryan and the Twins won't face the Mariners on Thursday after the Opening Day game for both teams was postponed due to inclement weather.

The contest was rescheduled for Friday, which was an off day in the schedule amid the three-game series. Ryan remains in line to start Friday's game, which will keep the other four members of the rotation on their normal pitching schedules. The 25-year-old right-hander closed the Twins' Grapefruit League slate with six strikeouts in five innings between his two starts.

Ryan will start Minnesota's Opening Day matchup against Seattle on April 7, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Ryan (personal) was activated from the bereavement list Wednesday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.

Ryan will make his final start of the season during Thursday's series finale against Detroit, and he'll rejoin the active roster after spending just under a week away from the team. The right-hander has recorded a 2.45 ERA and 0.59 WHIP in 22 innings across his first four major-league starts.

The Minnesota rookie retired the first 19 batters he faced before Amed Rosario broke up the party in the seventh with a single. The base hit was the only damage to Ryan's line, as he had Cleveland thoroughly perplexed for the entire outing and did not issue a free pass. While the right-hander doesn't possess wipeout velocity, his tendency to challenge hitters and an arm angle that makes the ball appear as if it's coming from his shoulder make him an interesting pitcher to watch. It may be too late for the 25-year-old to make an impact on the 2021 Twins, but this is the type of start that the brass will remember when assembling next season's roster.

Ryan is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against Cleveland.

Ryan wasn't bad in his first big-league start -- he induced 14 swinging strikes and surrendered only three hits over five frames. However, a third-inning three-run home run by Frank Schwindel was all the Cubs needed to secure the victory in a contest during which Minnesota managed only two hits. Ryan wowed with a 92:12 K:BB across 66 Triple-A innings this season, and he showed good swing-and-miss potential in his major-league debut. He'll likely stick in the rotation for the remainder of September as he auditions for the team's 2022 rotation.

The Twins selected Ryan's contract from Triple-A St. Paul ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Cubs, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

One of the prospects Minnesota received in the July 22 deal that sent Nelson Cruz to Tampa Bay, Ryan is expected to get a trial in the Twins rotation for the final month of the season as he aims to secure a starting role with the big club in 2022. The Twins plan to select Ryan's contract from Triple-A St. Paul when rosters expand Wednesday, and he'll likely be in line to start in his MLB debut later that day in Minnesota's series finale with the Cubs, Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 Saint Paul reports.

Minnesota is still listing their starter for Wednesday as "TBA," but with Randy Dobnak (finger) set to return from the 60-day injured list to start Friday against the Rays and Andrew Albers in line to take the hill Saturday, Ryan represents the most logical candidate to fill the opening for the series with the Cubs. After being acquired from the Rays on July 22 in the Nelson Cruz deal, Ryan didn't make his organizational debut until Aug. 20, as he had been a member of the Team USA roster in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Much like he did at Triple-A Durham prior to the Olympics, Ryan has impressed in his first two turns at St. Paul, covering nine innings between the starts while allowing two earned runs and striking out 17. Expect the Twins to give him a look in a starting role over the final month of the season in what amounts to an audition for a spot in the 2022 Opening Day rotation.

Ryan is a candidate to be called up and start against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

The Twins pushed back Andrew Albers' next start to Saturday, which leaves an opening on Sept. 1 - also the first day of expanded rosters. Ryan has given up just up two runs with 17 strikeouts in nine innings in his first two starts at Triple-A after he was both traded to the Twins and returned from playing in the Olympics.

Ryan and Drew Strotman were traded from the Rays to the Twins as part of a trade for Nelson Cruz. Ryan is a candidate to be called up the majors this summer as the Twins may decide to give him some major league innings as they evaluate him for 2022. Ryan has a 3.41 ERA and 12.5 K/9 at Triple-A between St. Paul and Durham.

Ryan was one of the top pitching prospects in the Rays' farm system, and he began the year at Triple-A Durham. He posted a 3.63 ERA and 0.79 WHIP in 57 innings across 12 appearances (11 starts). The right-hander also impressed during spring training this year, and he could be in consideration to make his major-league debut at some point in 2021, especially if the Twins trade away some starting pitchers prior to the trade deadline.

Ryan, who Adam Berry of MLB.com reports was reassigned to minor league camp Tuesday, has fired three clean innings across three Grapefruit League appearances, recording four strikeouts.

A seventh-round pick in the 2018 first-year player draft, Ryan has been impressive at every minor-league stop thus far, with his 2019 stint at Double-A Montgomery counting as his highest professional foray. Ryan was a candidate for the Rays' 60-man roster pool last summer but never saw major-league action. However, his body of work this spring at least plants a seed for a possible major-league promotion at some point in 2021, especially if the right-hander is able to continue generating a similar caliber of experience where he starts the minor-league season.
