Logs another multi-hit game
India went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two RBI and two additional runs scored in Friday's 19-2 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
India was one of the six members of the Reds' starting lineup to go deep in the win, which kept Cincinnati alive in the playoff hunt. He singled and scored in the first inning then launched a two-run home run in the second. The second baseman scored a third run after being hit by a pitch in the fourth. After going 5-for-42 over the first 11 games since being activated off the injured list, India logged a third multi-hit effort over the last four games, during which he's scored seven runs.

Doubles, scores twice in loss
India went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
India doubled and scored in the sixth inning, then doubled in a run and scored in the eighth, as the Reds attempted comeback fell short. It was stinging loss for Cincinnati, which missed a chance to gain ground on the Cubs for the final wild card spot. India has batted .173 over 14 games since coming off the injured list, but he's shown recent life, going 5-for-14 with five walks, three doubles and four runs scored over the last four contests.

India reached base in all four plate appearances Sunday and scored the game-winning run in a game the Reds desperately needed to win. Since being reinstated from the IL on Sept. 10 following a bout with plantar fasciitis, India had only five hits in his previous 42 at-bats going into Sunday's game. Over 509 plate appearances, India's now slashing .242/.334/.400 with 16 home runs, 58 RBI, 73 runs and 13 stolen bases.

Sep 15, 2023
Slugs game-winning homer
India went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-3 victory over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
The clutch two-run shot in the seventh served as the game-winner for the Reds. Despite the homer, India only has three hits in 20 at-bats over the course of five games since returning from a stint on the injured list due to plantar fasciitis. In 108 games played, he's now slashing .246/.331/.411 with 16 home runs, 57 RBI, 70 runs and 13 steals over 414 at-bats.
Sep 11, 2023
Homers and steals bag in return
India went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
India sent a long ball over the wall in center on his first at-bat since July 29. He also surprised with a stolen base, which was his first since he had two June 3. Reinstated early, starting Sunday
India (foot) was activated from the 10-day injured list and is starting at second base Sunday against the Cardinals, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was previously expected to make his return from the injured list Tuesday in Detroit after starting a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Friday, but he'll instead rejoin Cincinnati for Sunday's series finale versus St. Louis. India has been sidelined since late July with plantar fasciitis but should operate as the Reds' primary second baseman down the stretch.
Sep 9, 2023
Begins rehab assignment
India (foot) went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, two RBI and two runs scored for Triple-A Louisville on Friday.
ANALYSIS
India kicked off a rehab assignment and was active on the left foot. He started at second base and played six innings. India will get at least another two games with the Bats and could return Tuesday when the Reds begin a three-game set against the Tigers in Detroit.
Sep 8, 2023
On track to return Tuesday
India (foot) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India has been sidelined since late July with left foot plantar fasciitis but has been progressing well of late and is ready to test things out in a game setting. Barring a setback, he is expected to be activated Tuesday ahead of the Reds' series in Detroit. Cincinnati will have some lineup juggling to do once India returns, but the 26-year-old undoubtedly will be starting most days,
Sep 6, 2023
Rehab could begin Friday
India (foot) could begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Sept. 8, if he continues on a positive path, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
India's foot is pain free, but the Reds are taking a deliberate approach in building up the infielder to avoid a setback that could end his season prematurely. If he begins the rehab assignment as hoped for Sept. 8, then a return to the majors Sept. 12 is possible.
Sep 3, 2023
Approaching rehab assignment
Reds manager David Bell said Sunday that India (foot) could begin a rehab assignment within the next week, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India, who has been on the 10-day injured list since July 30 with left foot plantar fasciitis, began a running progression Monday at the Reds' complex in Arizona and looks to be making good progress in his recovery. Bell suggested that India would likely need at least three rehab games before being activated from the IL, so the 26-year-old probably won't be ready to return to the Cincinnati lineup until early next week at the soonest.
Aug 24, 2023
Will begin running
India (foot) traveled to the Reds' training complex in Goodyear (Ariz.) where he is slated to being running on an anti-gravity treadmill, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The treadmill would enable India to resume running without putting pressure on the foot. The infielder is also scheduled for another MRI to determine the status of his left foot plantar fasciitis. India received positive news from a specialist Tuesday and could return early September, if he suffers no setbacks.
Aug 23, 2023
Hears positive news
India had his foot examined Tuesday by a specialist, who reported good progress in the plantar fascia area, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India, who said he feels no pain in the foot, took batting practice prior to Tuesday's game against the Angels. "We'll see how I feel running and go from there," India said. "I feel good. All I can do is go based off of how I feel." The second baseman was shut down less than two weeks ago after a setback in the initial stages of rehab. The positive news suggests India can return sometime around the beginning of September, if he remains pain free and whether a minor league rehab assignment is required. Neither the player nor the team are setting a timeline.
Aug 16, 2023
Upset by original diagnosis
India (foot) expressed dismay at how the Reds originally assessed his plantar fasciitis injury, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
At issue for India is how long the team had him abstain from running. At the time of his injury in late July, the club prescribed a week of inactivity. India began rehab work and suffered a setback, prompting a second MRI from a doctor in Los Angeles, which revealed a more significant tear, per MLB.com. The doctor said India should have taken two weeks off before beginning rehab. The infielder, who was scratched from a start July 29 then added to the injured list, was shut down for two weeks as of last Friday and feels would have been back had he been initially shut down for two weeks.
Aug 11, 2023
Shut down for two weeks
India (foot) will receive a second opinion on his left foot and has been shut down from winning for at least two weeks, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
India has reportedly been feeling pain while running, so the Reds will pause his rehab until late August, meaning his return to the lineup will likely have to wait until September. The 26-year-old second baseman was slashing .251/.336/.409 across 453 plate appearances prior to getting injured in late July.
Aug 8, 2023
Unlikely Tuesday
India (foot) is unlikely to be activated off the injured list Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
An earlier report indicated India would be activated Tuesday, the first day the infielder is eligible. Reds manager David Bell said there were no setbacks, but the club has scheduled India for additional running and batting practice. The goal is to have India ready for activation Friday, Aug. 11, when Cincinnati kicks off a three-game road series in Pittsburgh.
Aug 5, 2023
Expected return date set
India (foot) is expected to be activated Tuesday against the Marlins, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
India recently ramped up baseball activities following a brief stretch of rest. Tuesday is the first day eligible to return from the 10-day injured list.
Aug 3, 2023
Ramping up baseball activity
India (foot) took ground balls on the field prior to Wednesday's game, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Following a brief period of rest, India increased his baseball activities Wednesday. The infielder is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left heel, but the condition is considered minor. The club believes India will miss the minimum amount of time on the injured list.
Jul 30, 2023
Hopes to miss minimum time
Reds manager David Bell said that he's hopeful that India, who was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier Sunday due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot, will spend the minimum amount of time on the shelf, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India acknowledged himself that he could have played through the injury at about 80 percent health, but he and the Reds both agreed that an IL stint would be in his best long-term interest. Since India's placement on the IL is retroactive to Saturday, he'll be eligible for activation Aug. 8. India's move to the IL will create a clearer path for rookie Christian Encarnacion-Strand to continuing seeing regular starts.
Jul 30, 2023
Heading to injured list
India was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
ANALYSIS
India was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to pain in his left heel, and he'll be sidelined for at least the next 10 days after an MRI revealed he's dealing with plantar fasciitis, which can often be a lingering long-term injury. It's unclear exactly how long the 26-year-old will be sidelined, but it'll likely be Elly De La Cruz and Matt McClain handling the middle-infield work for the near future.
Jul 30, 2023
Awaiting MRI results
India (heel) underwent an MRI on Saturday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old has apparently dealt with soreness in his left heel over the past few weeks, but the injury worsened of late and resulted in him being scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers. India should be considered day-to-day heading into Sunday's series finale in Los Angeles, and the MRI results could soon shed some light on the severity of the issue.
Jul 29, 2023
Scratched with heel issue
India was scratched from Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers due to left heel pain, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India started the past three games at the keystone for Cincinnati, but it's unclear when he suffered the injury or if he'll be available off the bench Saturday. The 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.
Jul 24, 2023
Sitting Monday
India is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
India will take a seat after he went 2-for-10 with three walks and two strikeouts during the team's three-game series with Arizona. Matt McLain will take over at second base while Christian Encarnacion-Strand enters the lineup after some shuffling and bats seventh in the opener with Milwaukee.
Jul 19, 2023
Hits bench Wednesday
India is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The recent promotion of power-hitting prospect Christian Encarnacion-Strand means that the Reds will have nine lineup spots available for 10 hitters worthy of starting roles against right-handed pitching, so manager David Bell is expected to rotate off days among a number of players until an injury clears up the crowdedness. India finds himself as the odd man out Wednesday, with Matt McLain shifting over from shortstop to man India's usual spot at the keystone.
Jul 19, 2023
Homers in loss
India went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-2 loss to San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Monday's game was suspended after nearly two hours of rain and thunder before the two teams finished up Tuesday. India's seventh-inning home run Monday tied the game and set up the suspended state. The second baseman entered the game looking for answers to an extended slump. India batted .156 with a .567 OPS over the 25 games preceding Monday's tilt.
Jul 4, 2023
Goes deep twice in win
India went 3-for-6 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
India opened the scoring Tuesday with an RBI single in the first inning before socking a pair of two-run homers later in the contest. The 26-year-old India had been struggling a bit at this dish, going 2-for-22 (.091) in his prior six games. However, he's been productive in the power department -- he now has seven home runs in his last 21 games despite going 16-for-82 (.195) in that span. Overall, India's slashing .255/.344/.426 with 13 homers, 64 runs scored, 48 RBI and 12 stolen bases through 381 plate appearances this year.
Jul 2, 2023
Crushes grand slam in loss
India went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and four RBI in Saturday's loss to the Padres.
ANALYSIS
India came up to the plate with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and crushed a 430-foot grand slam to center field to bring the Reds back within five runs. The second baseman has been struggling at the plate as of late and came into Saturday's contest hitting just .121 over his last nine games. He's now hit in two straight but hasn't recorded a multi-hit game since June 14 against the Royals.
Jun 25, 2023
Receives rare day off
India is out for Sunday's game against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
India has gone just 1-for-15 with six strikeouts over the past four games, and he'll take a seat Sunday after making 49 consecutive starts. Matt McLain will shift to second base and Elly De La Cruz to shortstop while Nick Senzel receives a start at the hot corner.
Jun 15, 2023
Shows off power in win
India went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-4 victory over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
India recorded multiple extra-base knocks for just the third time this season and is slashing .280/.351/.500 with three home runs and 12 RBI over his past 13 appearances (50 at-bats). His overall numbers (.278/.361/.433) are similar to his recent stretch, and the 2021 Rookie of the Year is currently on pace for a career year.
Jun 11, 2023
Pops homer in win
India went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
India's had a relatively steady bat in June, going 10-for-42 (.238) with two homers and eight RBI over 11 games this month. He's hit safely in nine of those contests, but he has just one multi-hit effort in that span. The second baseman is up to seven homers, 32 RBI, 52 runs scored, 12 stolen bases and 16 doubles while slashing .275/.360/.422 over 66 games this season in a near-everyday role.
Jun 3, 2023
Hits go-ahead homer in third
India went 1-for-3 with two HBP and a two-run home run in Friday's 5-4 loss to Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
India hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the third to give the Reds a 3-2 lead, marking his sixth long ball of the season. The 2018 first-round pick won NL Rookie of the Year in 2021, but he struggled last year. He's back to producing like he did as a rookie, slashing .278/.368/.431 across 57 appearances, and has been slugging the ball better of late with three home runs and a double over his past six games (25 at-bats).
May 28, 2023
Clubs two homers in win
India went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in Saturday's 8-5 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
India had gone 17 games without a homer, hitting just .239 (16-for-67) in that span. This was also his second game with multiple RBI in May, and just his fourth such effort this season, though he spent a large chunk of it as the leadoff hitter. The big effort has India up to a .291/.376/.439 slash line with five homers, 24 RBI, 42 runs scored and eight stolen bases through 52 contests. Hitting in the No. 3 hole versus right-handers should offer the second baseman more chances to produce RBI.
May 23, 2023
Batting third Tuesday
India is batting third for the Reds on Tuesday night against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
India has exclusively hit leadoff this year, but the Reds want to try TJ Friedl (oblique) in that role fresh off the IL and also want to keep Matt McClain in the No. 2 spot. India should still get leadoff looks against all left-handers and even some right-handers. Veteran righty Adam Wainwright is on the bump Tuesday for St. Louis.
May 21, 2023
Starting Sunday
India (knee) is starting at designated hitter and batting leadoff Sunday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
India exited Saturday's contest after he fouled a ball of his knee, but he avoided a major injury and is ready to go Sunday. The 26-year-old has recorded at least one hit in four out of the last five games, batting .250 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored over that stretch.
May 20, 2023
X-rays negative on knee
X-rays returned negative on India's knee after he left Saturday's extra-inning loss to the Yankees on Saturday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rosecrans left Saturday's game after fouling a ball off his knee. The infielder was able to continue as a pinch-runner, but he was unable to play defense with Kevin Newman taking over at second base. India should be considered day-to-day, and there's a good chance he'll get Sunday off as a precaution.
May 6, 2023

India went 3-for-3 with one double, three runs scored and two steals in Saturday's victory over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
India flew around the bases Saturday, reaching safely in all four plate appearances with two steals and a trifecta of runs scored. The second basemen has been a consistent leadoff option for the Reds having recorded a walk or a hit in 29 of 33 games this season and slashing .298/.392/.421. Though India's power numbers have decreased, he's made up for it with seven steals across 33 games after only stealing three bases in 2022.
May 6, 2023
Pops second homer
India went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-4 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old took Lance Lynn deep in the fifth inning to give Cincy a 4-3 lead that Hunter Greene couldn't maintain. India has bounced back nicely from his sophomore slump so far in 2023, slashing .280/.374/.398 through 32 games with two homers, five steals, 13 RBI and 23 runs as the Reds' everyday leadoff hitter.
Apr 30, 2023

Apr 20, 2023
Three hits, stolen base in loss
India went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's 4-3 loss against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
India did his part to spur a Reds' comeback Thursday -- he drove in Jose Barrero with a base hit in the eighth inning before stealing third and eventually scoring on a Spencer Steer sacrifice fly. India is off to a strong start in his third season after a disappointing sophomore campaign. He's now slashing .318/.427/.470 with a home run, eight RBI, 17 runs scored and four stolen bases through 66 plate appearances.
Apr 1, 2023
Homers, steals base in win
India went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
India led off the home half of the first inning with his first long ball of the season to erase an early deficit. He struck out against Rich Hill in his second plate appearance but reached again in the fifth, setting up his first theft of the campaign. After injuries wrecked his 2022 season, India is 3-for-7 to start 2023 and seems determined to bounce back, which seems likely assuming better luck on the health front.
Mar 10, 2023
Could hit leadoff
India has been hitting first or second most of the time in spring training so far and appears likely to hit there in the regular season, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "I haven't thought about the lineup too much yet, but he has proven that he's very effective in the leadoff spot," Reds manager David Bell said. "He's comfortable there. I still think he can hit pretty much anywhere in the lineup. For now, for spring training since he's done it, it's definitely an option and it just get
ANALYSIS
India lost 10 pounds and prioritized becoming a 'more athletic' hitter over the offseason. Multiple injuries limited India to 103 games and 431 plate appearances last season, so any reports about better conditioning should be welcomed. India has already drawn seven walks and stolen two bases while making his case for the leadoff spot.
Dec 15, 2022
Sticking at second base
The Reds have no plans to move India (foot) off second base, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "(India) was in Cincinnati last weekend running sprints, and he looked better than he did the entire year last year," manager David Bell said. "He's a young player. He's plenty athletic. He's determined to kind of maximize his range. In my mind, he's our second baseman right now."
ANALYSIS
Keep in mind that India was originally a third baseman that was converted into a second baseman during the 2020 season at the Reds' alternate training site. The new anti-shift rules might discourage some players from playing premium defensive positions, but the Reds are committed to keeping India at second base.
Oct 5, 2022
Late scratch Wednesday
India was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Cubs due to a foot injury, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
India fouled a ball off his foot Tuesday but was initially expected to serve as the designated hitter and lead off during Wednesday's regular-season finale. However, Alejo Lopez will take over as the DH and lead off Wednesday.
Sep 28, 2022

Sep 22, 2022
Fills box score against Boston
India went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base Wednesday against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
India delivered a pair of RBI singles and also swiped his third base of the season. He's had a disappointing campaign and shown few signs of turning it around lately, as even after this strong effort he is hitting .219 with 10 RBI and six runs scored across 20 games in September. Overall, India has a 96 wRC+ and a .316 wOBA across 392 plate appearances for the season.
Sep 13, 2022
Gets breather in Game 2
India is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
India recorded his first hit in four days in the first game of Tuesday's twin bill, but that was not enough to earn him to starts on the same day. Alejo Lopez will replace India at second base.
Sep 12, 2022
Takes seat after five-strikeout day
India is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
India is still locked in as everyday player for the Reds, but he'll get a day to clear his head after he went 0-for-5 with five strikeouts in Sunday's 7-6 loss to Milwaukee. Alejo Lopez, who reached base in all four of his plate appearances while producing two extra-base hits in that same game Sunday, will check in at second base in place of India in Monday's series opener.
Sep 10, 2022

India's is now slashing .269/.337/.424 on the season.
Sep 6, 2022
Leading off Tuesday
India (knee) is starting at second base and leading off Tuesday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
He exited the second game of Sunday's doubleheader and the Reds had an off day Monday, but the knee issue was apparently very minor. India is hitting .265/.335/.412 with nine home runs and two steals in 76 games.
Sep 4, 2022
Expects to be fine
India (knee) said after Sunday's win over the Rockies that he expects to be fine, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India was removed from the second game of Sunday's doubleheader after fouling a pitch off his knee in the fifth inning. However, manager David Bell said after the game that India wanted to stay in the game and was ultimately removed as a precautionary measure. The 25-year-old should be considered day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Cubs.
Sep 4, 2022

India was removed from Sunday's game against the Rockies after fouling a pitch off his right knee, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS

Sep 1, 2022

Aug 26, 2022
Good to go Friday
India (lower leg) is starting at second base and batting second Friday against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
India sat out Thursday after exiting Wednesday's contest with soreness in his lower left leg, but he'll rejoin the lineup Friday after missing only one game. The 25-year-old has struggled offensively in August with a .212/.278/.333 slash line through 17 games.
Aug 25, 2022
Sitting out Thursday
India (lower leg) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Alejo Lopez will fill in at second base while India sits out the series finale after he was lifted from Wednesday's 7-5 loss with left lower leg soreness. He initially missed three games earlier this month on account of the same injury, so it wouldn't be surprising if India's absence extends into this weekend's series in Washington.
Aug 25, 2022
Leg injury remains bothersome
India was removed from Wednesday's loss to the Phillies with left lower leg soreness, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India missed three games after he originally suffered the injury during the Field of Dreams Game against the Cubs on Aug. 11, and he's apparently not fully past the issue nearly two weeks later. The 25-year-old went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI prior to leaving Wednesday's contest, and manager David Bell said the leg is sometimes "throbbing and really hurting" by the end of the game. India doesn't appear to have suffered a setback and should be considered day-to-day, and the team is likely to remain cautious with the second baseman as he continues to manage the injury.
Aug 16, 2022
Homers in return
India (lower leg) went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Tuesday in an 11-4 loss against Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
In his first game since last Thursday's Field of Dreams game, India knocked a solo shot and struck out in his other three plate appearances. It was his eighth homer of the year and first in August. India hit second Tuesday, marking the first time the 25-year-old started and didn't hit leadoff since June 4 of last season, ending a streak of 159 straight starts atop the Reds' lineup.
Aug 16, 2022
Returns to lineup
India (lower leg) is batting second and playing second base Tuesday against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
India returns to action, albeit in an uncharacteristic lineup spot, after being scratched from Monday's starting nine. The second baseman has just six hits with 12 strikeouts in 35 at-bats since the beginning of August.
Aug 15, 2022
Scratched Monday
India (lower leg) was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Phillies, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India has missed the last three games due to a lower leg injury and was initially slated to return to the lineup Monday. While the Reds haven't yet provided a reason for removing him from Monday's lineup, it seems likely that he needs another day to recover from his lower leg issue. Whether he's available off the bench remains to be seen, but Matt Reynolds will take over at the keystone and bat sixth.
Aug 15, 2022
Starting Monday
India (lower leg) is starting at second base and batting leadoff Monday versus the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
India will return to the lineup following a three-game absence after he was hit by a pitch Thursday. The second baseman has had a challenging time recently while battling multiple injuries and he's produced a .171 average with a double, two RBI and two runs in 10 games in August.
Aug 14, 2022
Hoping to avoid injured list
India (lower leg) is not expected to require a stint on the injured list, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
India was spotted limping Sunday, but he is considered day-to-day and should avoid any sort of extended absence. India will sit out Sunday for a second straight day, though, and it remains to be seen if he will be ready to return to action for Monday's series opener against the Phillies.
Aug 14, 2022
Absent again Sunday
India (lower leg) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
India's injury prevented him from playing Saturday, and it will force him to the bench again one day later. Donovan Solano will man the keystone for the Reds on Sunday.
Aug 13, 2022
Not in Saturday's lineup
India (lower leg) isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
India sustained a lower leg contusion during Thursday's Field of Dreams Game against the Cubs and was airlifted to the hospital afterward, but he's considered day-to-day for now. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench Saturday, but Matt Reynolds will start at the keystone and bat sixth.
Aug 11, 2022
No fracture
India did not suffer a fracture in his left leg and is considered day-to-day, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
India exited Thursday's game after being hit by a pitch. Tests after the game confirmed the team's original diagnosis of a contusion, so it's possible that India will be able to suit up when the Reds resume their series with the Cubs on Saturday.
Aug 11, 2022
Diagnosed with leg contusion
India was diagnosed with a lower left leg contusion after exiting Thursday's game against the Cubs, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
India exited the game in the third inning but appeared to have suffered the injury after being hit by a pitch in the first frame. Though no official word has been offered, India seems to have avoided a serious injury. As a result, he could be back in the lineup as early as Saturday, when Cincinnati's series against the Cubs continues.
Aug 11, 2022
Exits with apparent foot injury
India exited Thursday's game against the Cubs with an apparent foot injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India was hit in the foot or ankle with a pitch in the first inning of Thursday's game. He remained in the contest for a few more frames but was ultimately removed. It's unclear how long India may be sidelined with the injury, but he'll get some extra rest as the Reds have an off day Friday.
Aug 9, 2022
Back in lineup Tuesday
India (hamstring) is starting at second base and batting leadoff against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
India will return to the lineup after leaving Monday's loss early with a hamstring injury. Since the beginning of August, the second baseman has gone 5-for-26 with a double, two RBI and two runs over seven games.
Aug 8, 2022
Intends to return Tuesday
India (hamstring) plans to be in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mets, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India was removed in the early stages of Monday's matchup due to a right hamstring injury, but he was feeling better after the game. The team will likely re-evaluate the infielder Tuesday morning to determine his status moving forward, but it's a good sign that India feels like he won't miss any additional time.
Aug 8, 2022
Suffers hamstring injury
India left Monday's game agains the Mets due to a right hamstring injury, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India dealt with an injury to his right hamstring earlier in the season, and he ended up missing nearly two months while on the mend, per Goldsmith. However, the severity of the injury is not yet clear.
Aug 7, 2022
Out of Sunday's lineup
India is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
India is 4-for-23 with a double, two RBI, a run and seven strikeouts through the first five games of August and will head to the bench Sunday after making 12 straight starts. Donovan Solano will take over at the keystone in the series finale versus the Brewers.
Jul 31, 2022
Flashes power in three-hit game
India went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and a double in an 8-2 win over the Orioles on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
India turned on a letter-high inside fastball from Dean Kremer to pick up his seventh home run of the season and help power the Reds to a victory over the surging Orioles. After struggling through the month of June with a .167 average, India is slashing a quality .259/.337/.459 to go along with four home runs in July. The 25-year-old second baseman showed promise last season by posting a 3.1 Fangraphs WAR in his rookie campaign, so it is possible that he heats up down the stretch.
Jul 26, 2022
Belts first career slam
India went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a grand slam and a second run scored in Monday's 11-2 rout of the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old cleared the bases off Zach Pop in the fifth inning for his first career slam. India appears to have found his Rookie of the Year form once again -- over his last 14 games, he's slashing .315/.383/.611 with four homers, a steal, 11 RBI and 12 runs.
Jul 25, 2022
Back in lineup Monday
India (thigh) is starting at designated hitter and batting leadoff Monday against the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
After he was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a left thigh contusion, India is ready to go for Monday's series opener. Following a cold start to the month, the 25-year-old has gone 14-for-50 with three homers, three doubles, seven RBI, 10 runs and a stolen base over his last 12 contests.
Jul 24, 2022
Scratched with bruised thigh
India was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Cardinals with a left thigh contusion, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
India suffered the injury during Saturday's contest on a hard head-first slide into home, and he'll be held out of the lineup for at least one game. Mark Reynolds will take over at the keystone for Cincinnati while Tyler Naquin moves up to the leadoff spot.
Jul 17, 2022
Connects for fourth homer
India went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 11-3 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old led off the game with a long ball, but it was all downhill for the Reds after that. His season has been marred by injuries, most notably hamstring trouble, though India is showing signs of life at the plate. He's 13-for-43 (.302 average) with three doubles and two home runs in his last 10 games.
Jul 13, 2022
Cashes in game-winner
India went 2-for-5 with a double, a two-RBI single and a stolen base in a 4-3 win over the Yankees on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
India came up with a big game-winning, two-RBI base hit in the top of the ninth against a stellar Yankees bullpen to give his team the 4-3 win. He had doubled and stolen third off Gerrit Cole earlier in the game for his second steal of the year. The performance is one of the few bright spots for India this season. The 25-year-old's sophomore campaign has failed to reduplicate the success he found in 2021, and he is slashing a miserable .221/.273/.321 on the season. However, India has been mildly better in recent days and has hits in five of his past six games. If India is going to be an effective leadoff hitter for the Reds he is going to have to raise his 2.8% walk rate.
Jul 8, 2022
Four hits across doubleheader
India went 4-for-8 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored while starting both games of Thursday's doubleheader against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
India poked a go-ahead RBI single in the evening game to cap his impressive day and help the Reds salvage a split in the twin bill. This has been an incredibly disappointing season to date for India, as he's battled various injuries, the most recent being an ankle injury suffered on a hit-by-pitch Wednesday. X-rays were negative and his performance suggests the ankle is nothing to worry about, but he hasn't been running much at all after the hamstring trouble earlier in the season. Until last year's NL Rookie of the Year can put together a stretch of sustained health, his production will continue to lag behind.
Jul 7, 2022
Back in lineup Thursday
India (ankle) is starting at second base and batting leadoff in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
After being hit in the ankle by a pitch Wednesday and exiting the contest early, India will be back in the lineup Thursday. The 26-year-old has produced just one hit in 15 at-bats so far in July, lowering his batting average to .204 on the season.
Jul 6, 2022
X-rays negative on ankle
India had X-rays come back negative on his ankle after being hit by a pitch during Wednesday's game against the Mets, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India was struck by the pitch to lead off the bottom half of the first inning and initially remained in the contest, but he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the following frame. The 25-year-old appears to have avoided a serious injury and should be considered day-to-day.
Jul 3, 2022
Late scratch Sunday in rest day
The Reds scratched India from the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta. He'll be receiving a rest day and isn't dealing with an injury, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Max Schrock was a late addition to the lineup and will replace India as the Reds' starting second baseman and leadoff hitter. India had started each of the past five games, going 5-for-23 with a home run, three RBI and an additional run.
Jun 29, 2022
Pops three-run homer
India went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and one additional run scored in Tuesday's victory over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
It's been a tough campaign so far for the Reds' second baseman and leadoff hitter. He missed significant time with a hamstring injury and has mostly struggled at the dish. India's most recent injury scare turned out to be minor -- he was plunked on the hand over the weekend but X-rays were negative. Last year's NL Rookie of the Year now has two homers and one stolen base to go along with a .227/.284/.330 batting line this season.
Jun 28, 2022
Ready to go Tuesday
India (hand) will start at second base and bat leadoff in Tuesday's game against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
India was withheld from the starting nine for Sunday's 10-3 win over the Giants after he was hit by a pitch in his right hand a night earlier, but the day out of the lineup coupled with Monday's off day looks as though it provided sufficient time for the reigning National League Rookie of the Year to move past the injury. Since he returned from the injured list June 13 after battling a strained right hamstring, India is hitting .128 with a home run and a stolen base over 10 games.
Jun 26, 2022
Sitting out Sunday
India (hand) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old exited Saturday's contest after being hit by a pitch on his right hand, though he appears to have avoided a serious injury as X-rays came back negative. India will now have two days to rest up before Tuesday's series opener against the Cubs since the Reds have a scheduled day off Monday. Donovan Solano will start at the keystone Sunday for Cincinnati.
Jun 25, 2022
X-rays negative
India received a negative X-ray on his hand following Saturday's loss to the Giants, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
India received good news following his early exit from Saturday's game as he did not suffer a fracture in his hand after he was hit by a pitch. He can be considered day-to-day moving forward.
Jun 25, 2022
Exits game following HBP
India left Saturday's contest early following a hit-by-pitch, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
India was hit in his right wrist/hand in top of the fifth inning by Logan Webb, forcing him to later be removed for Matt Reynolds in the eighth. Due to the fact that he was able to stay in the game for multiple innings, India can be considered day-to-day heading into Sunday's series finale.
Jun 22, 2022
Launches first homer
India went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk during Tuesday's 8-2 loss to the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
India went 3-for-22 in his first five games since being activated off the injured list last week, and he finally went deep Tuesday for the first time in 2022. The 25-year-old has spent most of the season sidelined by the hamstring injury and has played in only 17 games, and he's mostly struggled when available with a .246/.288/.333 slash line.
Jun 15, 2022
Tallies RBI double
India went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
India made his second consecutive start since being activated from the injured list. He's gone 2-for-8 with two RBI since, including an RBI double in the second inning Wednesday. Overall, India has a .288/.327/.346 line, though he has been limited to only 55 plate appearances on the season.
Jun 13, 2022
Returns from IL
India (hamstring) was activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Monday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
It was initially reported that India would return from the injured list Tuesday, but the Reds made the move Monday night after he was able to go through pregame warmups without any issues. Aristides Aquino (calf) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.
Jun 13, 2022
Likely back Tuesday
India (hamstring) is back with the team and is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's game against Arizona, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India has been out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville for the past week, and it appears he's nearing activation. He hasn't sniffed the field since Apr. 30 due to a right hamstring injury and should return as Cincinnati's everyday second baseman once he's officially cleared.
Jun 6, 2022
Beginning rehab assignment Tuesday
India (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India underwent an MRI on Monday and apparently received encouraging results, as he's been cleared to return to game action with the Triple-A club. The 25-year-old hasn't played since April 30, so it seems likely that he'll require several rehab games before he's reinstated from the 10-day injured list. However, he should reclaim his role as the Reds' everyday second baseman once he's activated since he slashed .295/.311/.341 with two doubles, five runs and three RBI over 11 major-league games prior to his absence.
Jun 5, 2022
MRI coming Monday
India (hamstring) will get an MRI on Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
This could be the MRI that clears India to head out on a rehab assignment, as he was approximately two weeks away from a rehab assignment on May 24. He has been sidelined since April 30.
May 24, 2022
Rehab assignment could come in June
Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that India (hamstring) is approximately 10 days to two weeks away from heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India's potential return timeline from the right hamstring injury looks as though it's been pushed back again, as Bell said exactly one week ago that the reigning National League Rookie of the Year could begin playing in minor-league games by the end of May. The 25-year-old doesn't appear to have hit a snag in his recovery over the past week, but the non-contending Reds may be reluctant to rush India back from a hamstring issue that has already forced him to the 10-day injured list on two occasions through the first quarter of the season. Brandon Drury is expected to continue serving as the Reds' everyday second baseman for the duration of India's absence, which looks set to extend through at least the first week of June.
May 18, 2022
Could have rehab stint next week
Manager David Bell said India (hamstring) will be re-evaluated when the team returns to Cincinnati on Monday, and the second baseman could subsequently begin a minor-league rehab assignment, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old has been sidelined by hamstring soreness since late April, and he's been taking part in baseball activities throughout the past week. It's unclear how many rehab games India will require before being activated from the injured list, but a return late next week could be in store if he begins the rehab stint shortly after Monday's evaluation.
May 11, 2022
Likely requires rehab assignment
India (hamstring) will likely require a rehab assignment before rejoining the Reds, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India participated in agility drills Tuesday, and he's taking part in glove work and tee work a day later. Manager David Bell said Wednesday that a rehab assignment hasn't yet been planned, but it could begin near the end of next week. If that happens, the Reds are hopeful that India will be back in action sometime around May 23, when the team's next homestand begins.
May 10, 2022
Gets in agility work
India (hamstring) took part in agility drills on the field prior to Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Back on the 10-day injured list for the second time this season after aggravating his lingering right hamstring issue, India is likely to remain on the shelf for at least another week. The fact that he's taking part in on-field work bodes well for his hopes of returning before the end of May, but India still has several more hurdles to clear in the recovery process before the Reds pinpoint a target date for his activation from the IL.
May 4, 2022
Out for two weeks
India's hamstring injury is the same injury that landed him on the injured list earlier, and will keep him out "a couple of weeks," but not four-to-six weeks, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "It's the same injury, but I've been assured that nothing he did while he was playing made it worse," manager Bell said. "He was trying to play through it, but it just wasn't good enough to continue to play. Based on the information we had, he ran the risk of reinjury if he kept playing."
ANALYSIS
Remember, this originally was a day-to-day injury that kept the Reds from putting India on the injured list for five days after he initially suffered it against the Dodgers. When all is said and done, India will have missed a cumulative four-to-five weeks, assuming there are no additional setbacks.
May 1, 2022
Back to injured list
India (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to April 30.
ANALYSIS
India spent less than two weeks on the injured list with the right hamstring issue before being activated Tuesday, but he quickly aggravated the injury and is now back on the shelf. It's unclear how long he's expected to be sidelined this time around, though the Reds figure to be more cautious to avoid rushing him back again. Brandon Drury and Matt Reynolds are likely to see time at the keystone in his absence.
May 1, 2022
Hamstring issue resurfaces
India isn't starting Sunday against the Rockies due to hamstring tightness, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India was scratched from Saturday's lineup to have a recovery day after being activated from the injured list earlier in the week, but his hamstring injury apparently remains bothersome. The 25-year-old will have three straight days off due to Monday's scheduled off day, so he could be back in action Tuesday at Milwaukee.
May 1, 2022
Remains on bench Sunday
India is not in the lineup for Sunday's game at Colorado.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old was scratched from Saturday's lineup to provide him a recovery day after returning from the injured list earlier in the week, and he's out of the starting nine again Sunday. The extra game off will provide India three straight days of rest thanks to Monday's scheduled off day. Matt Reynolds will start at the keystone in his place. and bat eighth.
Apr 30, 2022
Scratched from lineup
India was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies in order to have a recovery day, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The given reason seems to imply that India could return to the lineup Sunday. Brandon Drury will step into the lineup in his absence, batting fifth and playing second base.
Apr 28, 2022
Gets Thursday off
India is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
After a stint on the injured list due to a hamstring issue, India was activated Tuesday and started at second base in both of the Reds' last two games, going 2-for-9 with a double and a run scored between those contests. With the Reds and Padres concluding their series with a day game after a night game, India will receive some routine maintenance. Brandon Drury fills in for India at the keystone.
Apr 26, 2022
Doubles in return
India (hamstring) went 1-for-4 with a double in a loss to the Padres on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
There wasn't much to write home about in India's return from the injured list, but he did show the hamstring is fine by legging out a double against Joe Musgrove in the fifth inning. India has resumed tablesetting duties for an underperforming Reds offense.
Apr 26, 2022
Back in action Tuesday
The Reds activated India (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday. He'll start at second base and bat leadoff in the Reds' series opener against the Padres, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Cincinnati optioned infielder Alejo Lopez to Triple-A Louisville to clear room on the 28-man active roster for India, who spent the minimum amount of time on the shelf with a strained right hamstring. After getting the green light to play Tuesday, India will slot back into his usual spot atop the order, resulting in Tyler Naquin sliding down to the two hole.
Apr 24, 2022
Could be back Tuesday
Reds manager David Bell said India (hamstring) could return from the 10-day injured list as soon as Tuesday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After landing on the 10-day injured list last Tuesday with the right hamstring strain, India has seemingly made positive progress in his recovery over the past few days. He was able to run the bases Friday, and he had what Bell termed as another "encouraging day" of workouts Saturday, according to Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer. Alejo Lopez will draw the start at second base in Sunday's series finale against the Cardinals and will continue to fill in at the keystone for the duration of India's absence.
Apr 22, 2022
Runs bases Friday
India (hamstring) ran the bases ahead of Friday's game against the Cardinals, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India has been on the injured list with a right hamstring strain for just under a week, and he's eligible to return as early as Tuesday against the Padres. The Reds haven't indicated whether they think India will be able to return following a minimal stay on the IL, but it was certainly encouraging to see him running the bases Friday.
Apr 19, 2022
Shifts to injured list
India (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to April 16.
ANALYSIS
Manager David Bell previously said India wouldn't rejoin the starting lineup until at least Friday, so it's not a major surprise the second baseman will go on the injured list after missing the past four games with a strained right hamstring. The 25-year-old will be eligible to be activated for the April 26 matchup with San Diego, so he may only be out another week despite moving to the shelf. Brandon Drury and Alejo Lopez should see action at the keystone during his absence.
Apr 18, 2022
Won't start in San Diego
Manager David Bell it has yet to be decided whether India (hamstring) will be placed on the injured list, though even if the second baseman avoids the shelf he won't rejoin the starting lineup until at least Friday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India has already missed three games due to the hamstring injury and is out again Monday, and he apparently won't rejoin the lineup during the three-game set in San Diego, which ends Wednesday. A trip to the injured list would make the most sense for the 25-year-old at this point since he's already set to miss more time, as he could return early next week since the transaction can be backdated a few days. Brandon Drury should continue to see action at the keystone in his absence for the Reds.
Apr 18, 2022
Remains sidelined
India (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
India left Thursday's game against the Dodgers with a hamstring injury and hasn't seen the field since then. The Reds hinted at a possible move to the injured list for India on Sunday, though no such move has been made yet. Injured list transactions can be backdated three days, so the team could place India on the list Monday and have him available one week later. Brandon Drury remains the starter at second base in his absence.
Apr 18, 2022
Possible IL trip
The Reds could decide to put India (hamstring) on the IL if he's not ready to return Monday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "We do need to make a decision, (Monday) at the latest, to get him back as soon as possible if he does have to go on the IL," manager David Bell said. "We can backdate it three days. It's been sore, but not too bad. Still hoping to avoid the IL."
ANALYSIS
The Reds played short-handed all weekend against the Dodgers and really struggled without India's bat in the lineup. Placing him on the IL won't cure that, obviously, but it would give the Reds another bat to mix-and-match late in games.
Apr 17, 2022
Sidelined again Sunday
India (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Brandon Drury will pick up a third consecutive start at the keystone in place of India, who is day-to-day with the right hamstring injury that he suffered in Thursday's 9-3 loss to Los Angeles. At this stage, the Reds aren't ready to move India to the injured list, though that could change if the reigning National League Rookie of the Year still remains slowed by the hamstring issue heading into Monday's series opener in San Diego.
Apr 16, 2022
Absent from Saturday's lineup
India (hamstring) is not in Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
There was cautious optimism that India would return Saturday after exiting Thursday's game with a hamstring injury. That is some indication that he will avoid a stint on the injured list, though he's now in line to miss his second consecutive contest. Brandon Drury will start at second base and hit eighth in India's absence.
Apr 15, 2022
Out as expected
India (hamstring) is out of the lineup as expected Friday against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
India left Thursday's series opener with a hamstring injury. While the specifics of the injury remain unclear, manager David Bell suggested that it may only cost his second baseman one game. Brandon Drury will get the start at the keystone Friday.
Apr 15, 2022
May only miss one game
Manager David Bell said India (hamstring) isn't expected to play Friday against the Dodgers but could be back in the lineup as early as Saturday, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Bell didn't offer up any specifics but said the initial reports are encouraging after India left Thursday's game with a hamstring injury. It wouldn't be a major surprise if the 25-year-old ended up missing a couple days instead of just Friday, but it's still good news the injury appears to be only a minor issue. Brandon Drury is the likely candidate to work at second base during any absence.
Apr 14, 2022
Suffers hamstring injury
India was diagnosed with a right hamstring injury after exiting Thursday's contest against the Dodgers, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India pulled up after beating out an infield single in the fifth inning. Trainers immediately visited him, and he left the game quickly thereafter. It's not yet clear whether India will require a stint on the injured list, though he may be in line for some missed time.
Apr 14, 2022
Exits Thursday's game
India exited Thursday's game against the Dodgers with an apparent lower-body injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
India ran out an infield single in the fifth inning and pulled up as he crossed first base. He exited with trainers, though there has been no further word on the exact nature of his injury. Brandon Drury replaced India at second base.
Apr 12, 2022
Fifth straight start to begin '22
India will start at second base and bat leadoff in Tuesday's game against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off winning the National League's Rookie of the Year Award in 2021, India is entrenched as the Reds' table setter. He's gotten off to a somewhat slow start to the 2022 campaign with a .222/.263/.222 slash line over 19 plate appearances, but his fantasy managers shouldn't overreact to the small sample size.
Mar 14, 2022
Confirmed as leadoff man
Manager David Bell confirmed Monday that India will remain the Reds' leadoff hitter for the 2022 season, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The appointment atop the lineup comes as little surprise after India made all of his starts out of that position in the batting order from June 5 on last season, en route to slashing .269/.376/.459 with 21 home runs, 98 runs, 69 RBI and 12 stolen bases. After dealing away No. 2 starter Sonny Gray to the Twins over the weekend, the Reds could look to embrace a rebuild and deal away more veteran pieces, but the reigning National League Rookie of the Year won't be going anywhere.

ANALYSIS
India started at second base and hit leadoff, but he only played six innings. After the contest, manager David Bell described India as "quite a bit less than 100 percent," Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Bell didn't rule India out of the lineup for Wednesday's series finale in Kansas City, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the rookie infielder get another day or two off prior to the All-Star break.
Jul 6, 2021

On base four times Monday
India went 3-for-5 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 7-5 extra-innings loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
While he did a great job getting on base at the top of the Reds' order, India had trouble staying there -- he got picked off first base in the seventh inning after a leadoff hit, then was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double in the ninth, baserunning errors which might have cost his team a win in regulation. The 24-year-old rookie still has four multi-hit performances in his last eight games, slashing .355/.474/.484 over that stretch with a homer, two steals, three RBI and four runs.

He's added a respectable .781 OPS through 216 plate appearances while often batting leadoff.

India went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a walk in Monday's win over the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
India has hit safely in four straight games and has also reached base at least twice in three straight contests, so he's been making quite an impact at the top of the Reds' order. The second baseman has hit safely in all but two of Cincinnati's games this month, hitting .357 with two homers, four doubles, six RBI, 11 runs scored and a 9:9 BB:K during that stretch.

ANALYSIS

Over that span, India slashed .265/.359/.471 with two home runs, a stolen base, six RBI and four runs to provide value for fantasy managers who stuck with him during a month-long dry spell. India looked in danger of losing hold of his everyday role at second base earlier this month, but the 24-year-old looks to have regained some security after Nick Senzel (knee) and Mike Moustakas (heel) were both recently moved to the 10-day injured list.
May 18, 2021
Work picking back up
India will start at second base and bat sixth Tuesday against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Shortly after his return from a brief stay on the COVID-19 injured list earlier this month, India appeared to have lost hold of the everyday role at second base, as Nick Senzel had started to get more work at the position. India's playing time is back on the rise over the last week, however, as he'll be making his sixth start in a row Tuesday after going 5-for-17 with a pair of home runs, three walks and a stolen base over the previous five contests. India has benefited from Mike Moustakas (heel) missing the last three of those games, so the 24-year-old won't be a lock to stick in the everyday lineup once Moustakas is cleared to rejoin the lineup.
May 15, 2021
Homers again Friday
India went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in Friday's loss to the Rockies. He was also caught stealing.
ANALYSIS
India had been in a bad way at the plate -- he entered this series in a 3-for-37 slide -- but a trip to Coors Field was just what the doctor ordered. He has homered in consecutive games and has raised his slash line from .208/.304/.312 to .235/.320/.412 in the span of two days.

May 11, 2021
On bench again
India is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
India will hit the bench for the third time in four games, seemingly signaling that his time as Cincinnati's everyday second baseman may be over. The rookie has been the victim of the Reds' numbers crunch in the outfield, where both Tyler Naquin and Nick Senzel have proven worthy of regular roles. In order to fit the two in the lineup, Naquin will pick up a second straight start in center field, while Senzel -- who had prior experience at second base in the minors -- steps in for India at the keystone once again.
May 10, 2021
Not in Monday's lineup
India is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
India earned a spot on the Opening Day roster following an impressive spring and hit .476 through his first six major-league games, but he's fallen off a cliff since then. Over his last 18 contests, he's hitting .109/.231/.200. Nick Senzel will move in to second base in his absence, with Tyler Naquin starting in center field, a setup which could become more common moving forward if India can't turn things around at the plate.
May 7, 2021
Takes seat Friday
India is not in the lineup Friday against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old is 0-for-10 with two walks and six strikeouts over his past six games, and he'll head to the bench Friday. Nick Senzel will take over at second base while Tyler Naquin starts in center field for the Reds. India has cooled off after a hot start to the season and may not have a strong grip on the starting job at the keystone.
May 2, 2021
Returns from injured list
India (undisclosed) was activated from the injured list Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old was placed on the injured list Friday with no official designation, and his quick return indicates he was on the COVID-19 IL for the health and safety protocols. Won't miss time

ANALYSIS
India was hit in the head by a pitch Sunday against the Cardinals. While he initially remained in the game to run the bases, he was replaced in the next half inning. The Reds called his removal precautionary, however, so it's no surprise to see him remain in the lineup Monday.
Apr 25, 2021
Removed as precautionary measure
India was removed from Sunday's loss to the Cardinals in the bottom of the sixth inning due to an apparent head injury, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
India was hit in the head by a pitch in the top of the sixth inning Sunday. He passed all the tests given to him on the field and initially remained in the game, but Kyle Farmer replaced him at second base in the bottom of the sixth inning. Manager David Bell said that India was removed as a precaution, and the second baseman felt good after the game. It's not yet clear whether India forced to miss any additional time.
Apr 22, 2021
Connects for first career homer
India went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old's first career homer tied the game at eight in the bottom of the eighth inning. India went 10-for-21 with 10 RBI in his first six games, but he entered Thursday's game in a 3-for-30 slump. Even after the homer, he's still sitting with a sub-.700 OPS.

ANALYSIS

Apr 7, 2021
Keeps raking Tuesday
India went 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and four RBI in Tuesday's 14-1 win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
The bottom of the Reds' order was a wrecking ball Tuesday, as Nick Senzel, India and Tucker Barnhart combined for nine hits, nine runs and seven RBI from the 6-7-8 spots. India has gotten off to a stunning start to his big-league career, going 9-for-19 (.474) with four runs scored and seven RBI through five games.
Apr 2, 2021
Two hits in big-league debut
India went 2-for-4 with a double and a strikeout in a loss to the Cardinals on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old forced his way onto the Opening Day roster with a stellar spring and got the nod at second base in his MLB debut, forcing Mike Moustakas to third and Eugenio Suarez to shortstop. Suarez at short seems doomed to fail, but the Reds appear intent on getting India playing time. The fifth overall pick in 2018 has some speed to go with a little pop, which puts him in the mix as an injury-replacement option in mixed leagues.
Mar 31, 2021
Makes Opening Day roster
India's contract was selected by the Reds on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
India is expected to serve as Cincinnati's starting second baseman to begin the regular season with Eugenio Suarez at shortstop and Mike Moustakas at third. The 24-year-old impressed while playing second base at the alternate training site last year and will be in line to make his major-league debut to begin the 2021 campaign. India slashed .313/.441/.604 with three home runs, seven RBI and two stolen bases in 22 spring games this year.
Mar 15, 2021
Potential second base starter
The Reds are moving Eugenio Suarez to shortstop and Mike Moustakas to third base for Tuesday's spring training game against the Rockies, presumably with an eye towards using that alignment in-season. That would allow India to start at second base, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
India got a lot of work at second base during 2020 at the Reds' alternate training camp site, and they were impressed with his work. Presumably the 2018 first-round pick out of Florida is considered an improvement over their current alternatives at shortstop. Moreover, playing him at second and Moustakas at third improves their defensive alignment, even at the cost of Suarez at shortstop. Finally, this buys the Reds some time to send Jose Garcia back to the minors to develop further with the bat.
Mar 12, 2021
Invited to big-league camp
India was invited to big-league camp Friday.
ANALYSIS
India has been getting opportunities in spring games despite technically being at minor-league camp. He's been making the most of them, posting a 1.071 OPS in 20 plate appearances. He's considered close to big-league ready but has no obvious place to play, with Eugenio Suarez blocked third base and Mike Moustakas blocking second. The invitation indicates the Reds think highly of him, however, so it's possible they find a way to get him into the lineup at some point this season.

Progress at alternate site
India made a lot of progress at the Reds' alternate training site last summer, but didn't get the call to the majors due to an injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "I was ready last year but I got hurt," India said. "It's really not my decision. I just have to play to the best of my ability and what I know I can do. I believe that I am a big leaguer."
ANALYSIS
India's big problem, even if he tears it up in Triple-A, is that he doesn't have an obvious place to play. He worked at both third and second base last summer, but those spots are blocked by Eugenio Suarez and Mike Moustakas.

Two homers in camp
India has homered twice in camp, once against Amir Garrett and another against Tyler Mahle, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
India has made a good impression in this summer camp for the Reds, but he's going to require a few injuries to get a chance this season. It's more likely that he'll spend most of 2020 training at Prasco Park, the Reds' minor league camp.
