Homer, steal in win
Caballero went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-0 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Caballero was stuck in a brutal slump prior to Monday -- he'd gone 0-for-18 over his last 13 contests, which had effectively removed him from consistent playing time. The homer was just his fourth of the season and his first since June 28. The infielder is at a .225/.351/.329 slash line with 26 RBI, 36 runs scored and 26 steals through 271 plate appearances. Most of his at-bats for the remainder of the year will likely be against left-handed pitchers, though he can also provide speed off the bench.

Sitting on Saturday
Caballero is not in Saturday's starting lineup against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Even with lefty Clayton Kershaw on the mound, Caballero will find himself on the bench. Dylan Moore will start at second base in his place while Sam Haggerty will play in left field.
Aug 23, 2023
Swipes two bags off the bench
Caballero walked, scored a run and stole a pair of bases in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Caballero drew a walk as a pinch hitter for Dominic Canzone to lead off the seventh inning. He'd go on to steal both second and third base before scoring the Mariners' first run on a Josh Rojas bunt single. The 26-year-old Caballero hasn't started since Saturday, though he's come off the bench in three straight games. He's now logged five steals in his last eight contests, improving to 25-for-28 in stolen base attempts this season while slashing .240/.371/.340 with three homers, 33 runs scored and 24 RBI across 248 plate appearances in his rookie campaign.
Aug 23, 2023
Appears off bench
Caballero (shin/hamstring) appeared off the bench in Monday's and Tuesday's wins over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
He drove in a run as a late-inning replacement Monday and was caught stealing as a pinch-runner Tuesday. Caballero hasn't started a game since Saturday and is not in Wednesday's lineup, but he looks to be over his shin and hamstring issues.
Aug 20, 2023
Tending to sore shin, hamstring
Mariners manager Scott Servais said that Caballero is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros due to a sore shin as well as some minor hamstring tightness, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Servais added that Caballero will still be available off the bench if needed, so neither the shin nor the hamstring injury seem to be anything that will result in him being moved to the 10-day injured list. Caballero went 7-for-18 with three doubles, two walks, five runs, three stolen bases and one RBI while starting each of the last five games at shortstop, but his time as a regular in the Seattle lineup is likely to end soon with J.P. Crawford (concussion) on track to return from the 7-day injured list during the Mariners' series in Chicago that begins Monday.
Aug 20, 2023
Takes seat Sunday
Caballero is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Caballero started the past five games at shortstop and will head to the bench after going 7-for-18 with three doubles, three steals, an RBI and five runs during that span. Dylan Moore is starting at shortstop Sunday, but both players playing time at the position will dwindle in the near future with J.P. Crawford (concussion) on a rehab assignment and close to being activated from the injured list.
Aug 16, 2023
Racks up three hits in win
Caballero went 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Caballero logged his second straight multi-hit game, going 5-for-9 in that span. He's up to four steals over 13 games in August despite logging just 21 at-bats in the month. The infielder has found some extra playing time at shortstop lately with J.P. Crawford (concussion) on the injured list -- Caballero has started three of the last six games there after primarily working at second base. The 26-year-old is at a .237/.355/.342 slash line with three home runs, 23 RBI, 30 runs scored and 22 steals through 231 plate appearances.
Aug 16, 2023
Swats pair of doubles Tuesday
Caballero went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, another two-bagger, a stolen base and a run in an extra-inning win over the Royals on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Caballero made plenty of noise out of the bottom of the order, posting his first multi-hit effort since July 8 in the process. The 26-year-old had gone into the night with an abysmal .167 average and .381 OPS across his first 14 plate appearances (11 games) in August, and despite Tuesday's success, he remains ticketed for sporadic playing time at multiple infield spots.
Aug 10, 2023
Reaches 20-steal mark
Caballero picked up his 20th stolen base of the season as a pinch runner in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Caballero was out of the lineup for the third game in a row, but he made a small impact off the bench. The second baseman has five steals since the All-Star break and 20 for the season. He's slashing .222/.349/.318 through 215 plate appearances, though it appears a combination of Dylan Moore and Josh Rojas will keep Caballero out of the lineup versus virtually all right-handed pitchers going forward.
Aug 5, 2023
Collects 19th steal
Caballero went 1-for-2 with a stolen base in Friday's 9-7 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Caballero's at-bats remain limited, but he's gone 3-for-13 (.231) with four steals over his last eight games. The second baseman had a window to gain playing time with Kolten Wong being designated for assignment, but it's been Josh Rojas and Dylan Moore who have instead picked up most of the work at the keystone. Caballero is slashing .227/.352/.326 with 19 steals, three home runs, 21 RBI and 27 runs scored over 210 plate appearances.
Jul 29, 2023
Picks up steal Friday
Caballero went 0-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Caballero was in the lineup for the first time in a week, and he picked up just one at-bat while riding pine. The second baseman has again lost out on playing time to Kolten Wong, and it appears Dylan Moore has also passed Caballero on the depth chart. Nonetheless, Caballero offers some speed -- he has six steals over 14 contests in July, and he's up to 17 thefts on the year. He's added a middling .224/.351/.327 slash line over 202 plate appearances.
Jul 26, 2023
On bench Wednesday
Caballero is not in the starting lineup Wednesday against Minnesota, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Caballero will remain on the bench for a fourth consecutive contest Wednesday as he appears to have lost his starting job to Kolten Wong. Wong will take over at second base and bat ninth in the series finale with the Twins.
Jul 22, 2023
Logs steal in win
Caballero went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Caballero's playing time is on the rise again -- he's started four of the last five games at second base, including three times against right-handed pitchers. The 26-year-old has gone just 3-for-16 with one RBI in that span, but it's not like Kolten Wong (4-for-30 in July) is doing much better. Caballero is up to a .228/.354/.333 slash line with 16 steals, three home runs, 21 RBI and 23 runs scored through 198 plate appearances this year.
Jul 9, 2023
Playing time slipping
Caballero is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old made a string of six straight starts from June 11-17, but Kolten Wong, who is starting Sunday, has since reclaimed primary duties at second base with 13 starts in 20 games. Caballero had an .825 OPS in his first 25 games of the season but has struggled to a .619 OPS over the past six weeks.
Jul 8, 2023
Notches pair of steals
Caballero went 2-for-4 with one RBI, two stolen bases and one run scored in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Caballero picked up his second multi-steal game of the week, and he was able to snap an 0-for-10 funk at the plate. The second baseman is up to 15-for-17 on the basepaths this year, but he's had some trouble hitting consistently with a .233 batting average. He's managed to offset that with a solid 12.2 percent walk rate over 180 plate appearances, helping him achieve a .361 on-base percentage.
Jul 7, 2023
Sitting Friday
Caballero is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Caballero will take a seat after he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts during Thursday's 5-1 win. Kolten Wong will take over at second base and bat ninth versus Houston.
Jul 4, 2023
Two steals off bench Monday
Caballero recorded two stolen bases and scored one run in Monday's 6-5 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Caballero ran for Mike Ford in the ninth inning and proceeded to steal second and third before scoring on a J.P. Crawford sacrifice fly. He's been on the bench to begin two of the Mariners' three games in July, so it appears Caballero's playing time could be on the decline. Caballero is 13-for-15 on the basepaths while adding three home runs, 19 RBI, 20 runs scored and .239/.375/.358 slash line through 54 contests.
Jul 1, 2023
Sitting Saturday
Caballero isn't in the Mariners' lineup Saturday against Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Caballero is 3-for-7 with a home run over his last two games and will receive a day off Saturday. Kolten Wong will take over at the keystone and bat ninth.
Jun 29, 2023
Belts third homer in loss
Caballero went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Nationals on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The only offense of the day for the Mariners in the 4-1 loss came from the No. 9 spot in the order, underscoring the extent of the team's offensive struggles. Caballero's eighth-inning solo shot marked the rookie's first time leaving the yard since he slugged homers in back-to-back games May 21 and May 22, and he's now hit safely in five of his last six starts.
Jun 27, 2023
Breather Tuesday
Caballero is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Caballero will take a seat after he went 1-for-6 with a run scored, two walks, a strikeout and a stolen base while starting two of the games during Seattle's series with Baltimore. Kolten Wong will draw the start at second base and bat ninth in the series opener with Washington.
Jun 24, 2023
Hits bench Saturday
Caballero is not in Saturday's lineup against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Caballero had drawn four consecutive starts but will get a day off Saturday. Kolten Wong is taking over at second base while hitting ninth.
Jun 24, 2023
Busy night on basepaths
Caballero went 1-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Orioles on Friday.
ANALYSIS
While several other teammates put together much more sensational stat lines in the Mariners' 13-1 win, Caballero was effective with a small-ball approach out of the bottom of the order. The rookie's steal was his 11th of the season, while the three times he reached safely pushed his on-base percentage to a stellar .377. Caballero has also reached safely in four of his last five games, although he has just one extra-base hit, a double, over that span.
Jun 18, 2023
Not starting Sunday
Caballero is not in the starting lineup versus the White Sox on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Caballero will get a day off after going 1-for-5 with a double in Saturday's extra-innings loss to Chicago. Kolten Wong will get the start at second base and hit ninth for the series finale.
Jun 17, 2023
Notches 10th steal
Caballero went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 3-2 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Caballero's hitting remains middling -- he's gone 6-for-26 (.231) in June, but he also has a 7:4 BB:K and four steals this month. The second baseman is up to 10 steals on 12 attempts this season while slashing .238/.392/.356 with two home runs, 16 RBI and 16 runs scored. He appears to have the edge over Kolten Wong and Dylan Moore for a starting job at the keystone, though Caballero rarely hits higher than ninth in the order.
Jun 14, 2023
Tallies three RBI, two steals
Caballero went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk three RBI and two steals in Tuesday's win over the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Cabellero's big hit of the night came in the sixth when he swatted a bases-clearing triple to left to put the Mariners up 8-1. He also notched multiple steals for the second time this season and is up to nine steals thus far. The 26-year-old rookie has been sneaky good in 40 games since being called up. He's slashing .253/.407/.379 with two homers , 16 RBI, 16 runs and an 18:23 BB:K over 123 plate appearances.
Jun 10, 2023
Registers seventh steal
Caballero went 0-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Caballero has gotten on base in five of his last seven plate appearances, logging four walks and a hit-by-pitch in that span. The second baseman was able to get a start against right-hander Shohei Ohtani on Friday, but Caballero seems to be more of a short-side platoon option at best, and that's not guaranteed to hold with Dylan Moore back from the injured list. Caballero is slashing .244/.396/.360 with two home runs, 13 RBI, 16 runs scored and seven steals through 111 plate appearances this season.
Jun 7, 2023
Sitting again Wednesday
Caballero is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Padres, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Caballero will sit to begin a second consecutive game, although he did come off the bench and draw a pair of walks in Tuesday's win over San Diego. Kolten Wong will hit ninth and handle second base duties in Caballero's absence.
Jun 6, 2023
Sitting Tuesday
Caballero isn't in the Mariners' lineup Tuesday against the Padres, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Caballero went 3-for-9 with two RBI and a run scored during Seattle's last series against Texas. He'll get a day off Tuesday while Kolten Wong takes over at second base and bats ninth.
May 26, 2023
Sitting against righty
Caballero is not in the lineup Friday versus the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
The left-handed-hitting Kolten Wong will start at second base and bat ninth with right-hander Mitch Keller on the mound for Pittsburgh. Caballero has slashed .300/.475/.467 in 40 plate appearances against lefties but just .258/.324/.387 in 37 plate appearances against righties.
May 24, 2023
Back at second base
Caballero is starting at second base and batting seventh Wednesday versus the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Caballero got the day off Tuesday after homering Sunday and Monday. The 26-year-old was on a tear at Triple-A Tacoma prior to his April 19 promotion and owns a strong .802 OPS through his first 70 major-league plate appearances.
May 23, 2023
Sitting out Tuesday
Caballero isn't in the Mariners' lineup Tuesday against Oakland.
ANALYSIS
After homering twice over his last two games, Caballero will get an off day against the A's. Kolten Wong will take over at second base and bat eighth.
May 23, 2023
Clubs three-run homer
Caballero went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 11-2 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Caballero's two homers this season have come in his last two games. He made it a 5-0 lead for the Mariners with his second-inning blast. Prior to finding his power swing, he'd gone 3-for-17 across his previous eight games. The infielder is slashing .276/.371/.431 with 10 RBI, 11 runs scored and six stolen bases through 70 plate appearances in his first taste of the big leagues. He'll need to keep hitting to fend off Kolten Wong for the starting job at second base.
May 21, 2023
Three swipes and a home run Sunday
Caballero went 1-for-1 with a walk, a solo home run and three stolen bases during Sunday's 3-2 loss against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Caballero was hit by a pitch in his first at-bat and proceeded to steal second and third but was stranded to end the inning. He walked in the third and stole another bag, marking his sixth swipe of the year. In his final plate appearance, the rookie hit his first career home run to cut Atlanta's lead to 3-2. Caballero started the year in a platoon with Kolten Wong, but the youngster has outplayed the veteran thus far.
May 19, 2023
Starting at second base again
Caballero is starting at second base and batting ninth versus Atlanta on Friday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Caballero had been serving the short side of a platoon at second base but has now made two straight starts versus right-handers. The rookie infielder is batting .298/.393/.362 on the season.
May 18, 2023
On base thrice in loss
Caballero went 1-for-2 with an RBI infield single, two walks and a run in a loss to the Red Sox on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Caballero's fourth-inning knock finally put the Mariners on the board after they'd already incurred a 9-0 deficit, and he also came around to score Seattle's second run on a throwing error by Pablo Reyes in the sixth. The rookie has delivered consistently at the plate over his first 20 big-league games following a long minor-league career, with Wednesday's production pushing his average and on-base percentage to .298 and .393, respectively, across 56 plate appearances.
May 10, 2023
Returns to bench
Caballero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Caballero started in the middle infield in each of Seattle's last three games, though two of those starts came while shortstop J.P. Crawford was managing a left knee injury. With Crawford back in action Wednesday, Caballero will head to the bench and is projected to see infrequent starts as a short-side platoon player moving forward.
May 9, 2023
Keeps up hot hitting in loss
Caballero went 2-for-3 and recorded a stolen base in a loss to the Rangers on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The rookie's pair of singles extended his hitting streak to five games, while the stolen base was his third of the season and first since April 25. Caballero has quickly generated a .306 average and .350 on-base percentage over his first 40 big-league plate appearances following six-plus seasons in the minors to open his professional career, and although his current .423 BABIP is unsustainably high, he's played a big part in his good fortune by posting an elite 38.5 percent line-drive rate.
May 4, 2023
Three-hit night in win
Caballero went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a run in an extra-inning win over the Athletics on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The multi-hit effort was the first of Caballero's young career and gave his average and OPS boosts of 76 and 120 points to .250 and .611, respectively. The rookie has logged just 31 plate appearances to date but has already flashed with a pair of doubles and stolen bases apiece in addition to Wednesday's encouraging performance.
Apr 27, 2023
Handling second base
Caballero is starting at second base and batting eighth for the Mariners on Thursday in Philadelphia, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Caballero has been serving on the short side of a platoon at second base with Kolten Wong of late. He'll go up against left-hander Matt Strahm in this one.
Apr 26, 2023
Picks up another steal
Caballero went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Caballero singled with two outs in the fifth inning before swiping second base and scoring on a J.P. Crawford single. Caballero would add an RBI in the seventh, driving in Cal Raleigh with a sacrifice fly. The 27-year-old Caballero has shown off some speed in his first taste of MLB action, though he's yet to do much with the bat. He's now 3-for-14 with a double, two runs scored, an RBI and two steals through his first five games.
