He's put together a solid September, batting .257 (28-for-109) with seven homers, 21 RBI, seven doubles and 18 runs scored over 27 contests. Laces game-winning hit Thursday
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a game-winning two-run double in a victory over the Rangers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford's ninth-inning double plated Cal Raleigh and Dylan Moore with the tying and winning runs, keeping the Mariners' postseason hopes alive. The veteran shortstop's career-high RBI total now stands at 61, and he's boasting a .281 average, .926 OPS, 17 extra-base hits and 22 RBI over the 150 plate appearances he's logged in what is now a month-plus hot streak at the dish.

Smacks leadoff homer
Crawford went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and three walks in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Crawford made an early impact, opening the scoring on the second pitch he saw from Framber Valdez. Through 25 games in September, Crawford has gone 25-for-101 (.248) with six homers, 15 RBI and 15 walks. The shortstop is up to 18 long balls, 59 RBI, 92 runs scored, two stolen bases and a .264/.380/.434 slash line through 141 contests. He's also shown strong plate discipline with a 15.0 percent walk rate and a 19.8 percent strikeout rate.

Homers in loss
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-8 loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Crawford took Nathan Eovaldi deep in third inning for his second home run over his last five games and his fifth home run this month. He continues to be one of the Mariners' more impactful hitters, as he now has at least a hit in 12 of his last 13 games and is slashing .281/.349/.491 over that span. His 17 home runs on the year nearly double his previous career-high of nine in 2021 while his 58 RBI and 91 runs scored also are career-best totals.
Sep 20, 2023
Knocks homer in win
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI double and two total runs scored in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
It took until the seventh inning, but Crawford was able to extend his hitting streak to nine games. He's gone 11-for-38 (.289) in that span. The shortstop is up to 16 homers, 57 RBI, 88 runs scored, 34 doubles and two stolen bases while slashing .266/.382/.433 through 134 contests this season. Crawford's excellent on-base skills continue to be valuable as the Mariners' primary leadoff hitter.
Sep 18, 2023
Ties career-high RBI tally
Crawford went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, a double and a walk in a loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford's timely second-inning knock drove home Eugenio Suarez with the only run of the afternoon for the Mariners to give the former his 54th RBI of the campaign, tying a career high. Crawford's productive day at the plate overall was essentially the only bright spot for the Mariners as they wrapped up a disappointing litmus test of an interleague series against the Dodgers, and the multi-hit effort extended the veteran shortstop's on-base streak to eight games.
Sep 13, 2023
Approaching career-best RBI total
Crawford, who drove in three runs with a bases-clearing double over five plate appearances against the Angels on Tuesday, is now just one RBI from tying the career-high 54 he generated in 2021.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy managers in a couple of different statistical aspects this season. The fact he's on the precipice of a new career-best RBI tally is certainly one, and a pair of figures that have helped facilitate it, a .280 average with runners on base and a career-high 15 home runs, are two others. Crawford appeared to truly hit his stride at the plate three games into the second half of the season and hasn't cooled off for any extended stretch since, posting a .285/.408/.893 slash line over 43 post-All-Star-break games.
Sep 7, 2023
Belts clutch blast Wednesday
Crawford went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in a win over the Reds on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford came through with the Mariners' most impactful hit of the game, slugging a 382-foot shot to right with Ty France and Josh Rojas aboard in the fourth inning to extend Seattle's lead to 6-1. The homer was the fifth in Crawford's last 12 games, an atypical power surge that has pushed his career-high total in that category to 15. Moreover, all three components of Crawford's .271/.389/.437 slash line are also career-best figures by wide margins.
Sep 3, 2023
Goes deep in three-hit performance
Crawford went 3-for-4 with a solo homer, two additional runs scored and a hit-by-pitch in Saturday's win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Crawford put a cap on his big game by launching a decisive solo home run down the right field line in the ninth inning, giving Seattle an 8-7 lead. In 11 games since returning from a concussion, the 28-year-old shortstop is hitting .341 (14-for-41) with four homers, eight RBI, 17 runs, one steal, 11 walks, and 13 strikeouts.
Sep 2, 2023
Accounts for only run Friday
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a loss to the Mets on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford's 413-foot shot to center in the fourth inning would end up representing the Mariners' only run of the night against a dominant Kodai Senga and two relievers. The veteran shortstop has seen his power stroke come alive of late, as Friday's round tripper was his third in the last seven games and pushed his season total to a career-best 13. Crawford has also reached safely in six of his last seven games, a stretch during which he's hitting .400 (10-for-25) with five total extra-base hits, six RBI, six walks, a stolen base and 10 runs.
Aug 31, 2023
Productive out of leadoff spot
Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run single and a stolen base in a win over the Athletics on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford plated the tying and go-ahead runs with his timely seventh-inning single, sealing the comeback victory for Seattle. Crawford's steal was only his second of the season, and the veteran shortstop has now cobbled together an impressive .294 average -- including a .455 figure with men on base -- and .984 OPS over the nine games he's played since returning from a stint on the 7-day injured list due to a concussion.
Aug 29, 2023
Hits leadoff blast
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two additional runs scored in Monday's 7-0 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Crawford took Kyle Muller's second pitch of the game over the center-field wall. This was Crawford's second homer in four games, and he has three multi-hit efforts in that span. The shortstop is at a .268/.384/.421 slash line with 12 long balls, 42 RBI, 76 runs scored and one stolen base through 114 contests this season. Prior to 2023, he'd never hit more than nine homers or posted an OPS better than .714 in a campaign.
Aug 26, 2023
Homers in three-hit game
Crawford went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and three total runs scored in Friday's 7-5 win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Crawford launched Brady Singer's first pitch of the game 432 feet to right field to open the scoring. Over four games since returning from a concussion, Crawford has gone 4-for-16 with six walks, three RBI and seven runs scored while returning to his usual spot atop the lineup. He's now at a .265/.382/.413 slash line with 11 homers, 40 RBI, 70 runs scored and one stolen base through 111 contests this season.
Aug 22, 2023
Busy in return to lineup
Crawford (concussion) went 0-for-4 with two walks and two runs in a win over the White Sox on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford was back in his familiar leadoff spot in his return from the injured list and played a table-setting role in the lopsided win. The veteran shortstop's multiple trips on the basepaths were fitting, considering he's now sitting on an elite .436 on-base percentage across 112 plate appearances since the All-Star break thanks in large part to a 17.0 percent walk rate in that span.
Aug 21, 2023
Makes return from IL
The Mariners reinstated Crawford (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Monday.
ANALYSIS
Seattle has yet to release its lineup for Monday's series opener against the White Sox, but Crawford will presumably reclaim a prominent spot in the batting order while settling back in as the Mariners' everyday shortstop. The 28-year-old sustained a concussion Aug. 9 but cleared the protocol 10 days later and was given the green light to rejoin the big club after experiencing no setbacks during his lone rehab game with High-A Everett over the weekend.
Aug 21, 2023
Plays seven innings in rehab game
Crawford (concussion), who played six innings on defense in a rehab game with High-A Everett on Saturday, could be activated from the injured list and inserted back into the lineup for Monday's series opener against the White Sox, the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop also took three plate appearances in his first game action since Aug. 9, and as per manager Scott Servais, Crawford is now free of the mental fogginess he felt following his concussion and came out of Saturday's activity feeling good. Consequently, Crawford will be reevaluated when he joins the Mariners in Chicago, at which point a final decision will be made on whether he's ready to rejoin the starting lineup.
Aug 19, 2023
Clears concussion protocol
Crawford cleared concussion protocol and will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Everett on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford landed on the 7-day concussion IL on Aug. 11 after colliding with teammate Eugenio Suarez the previous day. He's now been deemed fit to return to game action and will make a couple tune-up appearances in the minors before returning as Seattle's everyday shortstop. Crawford was slashing .307/.431/.466 since the All-Star break prior to his injury.
Aug 17, 2023
Could return Sunday
Crawford (concussion) could return to the Mariners as early as Sunday's series finale in Houston, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford landed on the 7-day concussion injured list last Friday, following a collision last Wednesday with teammate Eugenio Suarez. He's shown steady improvement throughout this week and will soon report to High-A Everett for a quick minor-league rehab stint. Jose Caballero and Dylan Moore have been sharing starts at shortstop in his absence and Julio Rodriguez has been hitting leadoff.
Aug 15, 2023
Return date uncertain
Crawford may not return from the 7-day concussion IL when eligible Thursday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The good news is that Crawford is trending in the right direction. However, manager Scott Servais said there is still some uncertainty on whether the 28-year-old shortstop will rejoin the team immediately once he's eligible. A better picture will emerge over the next couple of days, but Crawford's absence likely wouldn't extend more than a few days past Thursday if need be.
Aug 11, 2023
Placed on concussion IL
Crawford was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Friday, retroactive to Aug. 10, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford has officially been diagnosed with a concussion following his collision Wednesday with teammate Eugenio Suarez. The 28-year-old shortstop is enjoying a mini breakout this season, having registered a .266/.379/.411 batting line and a career-high 10 home runs through 107 games. He'll be first eligible to return to the Mariners next Sunday, but head injuries never come with an exact recovery timeline.
Aug 10, 2023
Being evaluated for concussion
Crawford will be evaluated for a concussion after colliding with Eugenio Suarez during Wednesday's game against the Padres, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford reportedly wasn't feeling good during the last few innings following the collision, so the Mariners will put him through concussion protocol just to be safe. Further information likely won't be available until Thursday, so fantasy managers should consider Crawford day-to-day for now. The 28-year-old shortstop has been enjoying the best season of his career with a .790 OPS through 460 plate appearances.
Aug 9, 2023
Tallies three hits
Crawford went 3-for-4 with a double in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Crawford has logged three multi-hit efforts in August, going 8-for-27 (.296) across his last seven games. The shortstop has lifted his season slash line to .268/.382/.415 with the productive stretch, and he's added 10 home runs, 37 RBI, 63 runs scored, 26 doubles and a stolen base while primarily working out of the leadoff spot.
Aug 7, 2023
Smacks 10th homer
Crawford went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in an extra-inning win over the Angels on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop got Seattle's day off on the right foot by sending the first pitch of the day 397 feet to center field for his 10th homer of the season. Crawford's blast established a new personal best in round-trippers and extended his on-base streak to 12 games in the process. The 28-year-old's .787 OPS is also a career high and partly the byproduct of a 15.0 percent walk rate that's his highest since his 2017 rookie season in Philadelphia.
Aug 5, 2023
On base three times in win
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs in a win over the Angels on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners put on an offensive display in the high-scoring win, and Crawford's night was actually one of the quieter ones in a game where Seattle laced eight of its 14 hits for extra bases. While Crawford didn't contribute to that total, the veteran shortstop did generate his eighth multi-hit effort since the All-Star break and set the table nicely from the top of the order. Crawford has been thriving the entire second half, as he now owns a .333/.463/.485 slash line and 16.7 percent walk rate across his last 18 games.
Jul 30, 2023
Homers, scores three runs
Crawford went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, a double, three runs scored and two walks in Sunday's win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Crawford belted a solo homer in the second inning between crossing home in the first and ninth frames. He's having a terrific month, going 31-for-91 (.341) with 14 extra-base hits and 15 runs scored through 24 July games. Crawford's season slash line is up to .265/.376/.413 through 418 plate appearances. His ninth home run of the year Sunday tied his career high set in 2021.
Jul 29, 2023
On base twice in return
Crawford (knee) went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Friday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Crawford missed Wednesday's game with a knee injury, but an off day Thursday allowed him to heal enough to get back in the lineup. The shortstop has put together an excellent July, batting .329 (28-for-85) with 12 walks over 22 contests. He's up to a .261/.368/.400 slash line with eight home runs, 35 RBI, 54 runs scored and a stolen base through 96 contests, and he continues to look solid atop the Mariners' lineup.
Jul 28, 2023
Returns to lineup Friday
Crawford (knee) is back in the lineup Friday at Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Crawford will start at shortstop and bat leadoff for the visiting Mariners after missing Wednesday's series finale in Minnesota due to a right knee contusion. It was never a serious concern.
Jul 26, 2023
Sitting Wednesday with knee issue
Crawford is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins after he was hit on the knee by a pitch in Tuesday's 9-7 win, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Heading into the week, Seattle had been planning to hold Crawford out of the lineup Wednesday for rest purposes, but the shortstop's absence from the lineup for the series finale may be the result of a legitimate injury. Though Crawford took his base after he was struck by the pitch in the ninth inning, manager Scott Servais said that the 28-year-old was feeling sore after the game, according to the Associated Press. The Mariners have an off day Thursday, so Crawford will have the benefit of 48 hours of rest before Seattle returns to action Friday in Arizona.
Jul 26, 2023
Breather Wednesday
Crawford is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Twins, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford will get a breather after he went 3-for-8 with two doubles and two runs scored over the team's first two contests of the series. Dylan Moore will slot in at shortstop while Cade Marlowe enters the lineup in left field and bats seventh in the series finale with Minnesota.
Jul 23, 2023
Another productive day Saturday
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and a run in a win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford's seventh-inning two-bagger plated Dylan Moore and Kolten Wong to knot the score at 7-7. The 28-year-old mustered just a single in his first nine post-All-Star-break plate appearances, but he's caught fire since that point by going 10-for-26 with a trio of two-baggers, two RBI, three walks and four runs in his subsequent seven games.
Jul 16, 2023
Perfect day at plate
Crawford went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and a walk in Sunday's win over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Crawford doubled and scored in the first inning and later knocked his 20th double of the year. He'd been stuck in a 5-for-23 (.217) run since his last multi-hit game July 5, but he's still hitting .370 this month. Crawford improved his season slash line to .258/.368/.402 with 28 extra-base hits and 48 runs scored through 362 plate appearances.
Jul 6, 2023
Goes deep Thursday
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Crawford's third-inning blast extended his hitting streak to seven games, a span in which he's gone 11-for-26 (.423) with two homers, four doubles and six RBI. The shortstop has also drawn a walk in 17 of his last 25 contests. He's up to a .254/.365/.403 slash line with eight homers -- one shy of his career high -- 32 RBI, 46 runs scored, a stolen base and 18 doubles through 80 games this season.
Jul 1, 2023
Homers in Saturday's win
Crawford went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk, two total RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 8-3 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Four of Crawford's seven homers on the year have come over his last 10 games, despite him hitting a modest .257 (9-for-35) in that span. The shortstop drove in multiple runs for the second game in a row. He's slashing .246/.360/.383 with 30 RBI, 44 runs scored and one stolen base through 75 contests. Despite showing little in the way of speed, his decent contact and solid plate discipline have helped him stay atop the lineup regularly.
Jul 1, 2023
Productive out of leadoff spot
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a two-run single and two walks in a loss to the Rays on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford's two-run knock in the second inning brought home Jarred Kelenic and Cal Raleigh with what would turn out to be the Mariners' last two runs of the night. The 28-year-old finished June in a funk despite his production against the Rays -- Crawford hit just .163 (7-for-54) over the final 12 games of the month -- but he did also slug half of his six home runs on the season during that span while producing a solid .333 on-base percentage thanks to 11 walks.
Jun 27, 2023
Homers again Monday
Crawford went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, two walks and two total runs in Monday's 8-4 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Crawford opened the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff homer to right field and reached base three more times in the contest. He's gone deep twice in three games since returning from a brief hiatus due to a shoulder injury. Crawford has never hit double-digit homers in a season, but he's on pace to do so this year with six long balls through 71 contests.
Jun 25, 2023
Homers in return
Crawford (shoulder) went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in a loss to the Orioles on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop was back in the lineup and leading off after missing three games with a bruised shoulder, and he slugged the second of four Mariners homers on the afternoon in the third inning. Crawford has now left the yard twice in his last four games after going 16 straight games without a round-tripper immediately prior to that streak. He's been a constant presence on the bases throughout his last 10 games, however, generating a .391 OBP thanks in large part to a 15.2 percent walk rate in that span.
Jun 24, 2023
Back in lineup
Crawford (shoulder) is leading off and starting at shortstop Saturday against the Orioles, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford was held out of the lineup for three consecutive games with a shoulder injury. His return pushes Jose Cabellaro to the bench while Kolten Wong will hit ninth and start at second base.
Jun 23, 2023
Remains unavailable Friday
Crawford (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Orioles, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford will miss a third straight game as he continues to nurse an injured right shoulder following a collision during Tuesday's game with the Yankees. Jose Caballero will slide over to shortstop while Kolten Wong enters the lineup at second base and bats seventh versus Baltimore.
Jun 23, 2023
Trending in right direction
Crawford (shoulder) was able to partake in pregame drills Thursday, and manager Scott Servais says he's optimistic the veteran will return to the lineup at some point during the weekend series against the Orioles, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Servais confirmed Crawford was feeling better despite missing his second straight game Thursday following a collision with the Yankees' Harrison Bader in Tuesday's series opener. Crawford appears to have a fighting chance of jumping back into action as early as Friday night's game, with official confirmation of his status set to be revealed when lineups are released Friday afternoon.
Jun 22, 2023
Remains out Thursday
Crawford (shoulder) isn't in the Mariners' lineup Thursday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Crawford was expected to miss Thursday's game, and he is hopeful he'll be able to return over the weekend against Baltimore. In the meantime, Jose Caballero will start at shortstop and Kolten Wong will start at second while batting ninth.
Jun 21, 2023
Out of lineup Wednesday
Crawford (shoulder) is not in the starting lineup versus the Yankees on Wednesday, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford left Tuesday's game versus the Yankees with a right shoulder contusion, and while X-rays did return negative, the veteran shortstop will miss at least one more game with the injury. Jose Caballero is leading off and playing shortstop while Crawford sits, and Kolten Wong will get the start at second base while hitting ninth.
Jun 20, 2023
Likely to undergo MRI on shoulder
Crawford told reporters after Tuesday's game that X-rays returned negative on his right shoulder, but he will likely undergo an MRI on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop told reporters that he could barely left his right arm after colliding wit Harrison Bader in the early innings on a play at second base, and Divish notes that Crawford was clearly in discomfort postgame. Crawford is listed as day-to-day for now, but his status for Wednesday's game -- and the contests immediately after -- is certainly in doubt.
Jun 20, 2023
Removed with shoulder issue
Crawford was removed from Wednesday's game versus the Yankees with a right shoulder contusion, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. He went 0-for-2 before exiting.
ANALYSIS
Crawford was unable to continue after grounding out in the third inning. The shortstop should be considered day-to-day for now, and Dylan Moore has taken over at shortstop with Crawford out of the lineup.
Jun 20, 2023
Leaves in third inning
Crawford left Tuesday's game against the Yankees in the third inning, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
There's no word as to why Crawford left, but it's worth noting that he dealt with a knee injury not long ago. Dylan Moore has taken over at shortstop in Crawford's place, and there should be an update as to why the veteran infielder was exited from the lineup shortly.
Jun 18, 2023
Belts fourth homer in loss
Crawford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two walks in an extra-innings loss to the White Sox on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford wasted no time getting the Mariners on the board, uncorking a 383-foot solo shot to lead off the home half of the first. The veteran shortstop reached safely for the seventh time in the last eight games in the process, and his pair of free passes helped push his on-base percentage to just three points shy of his career-high .356 figure established back in his rookie 2017 campaign.
Jun 13, 2023
On base four times Monday
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs in a win over the Marlins on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The hot-hitting leadoff man set the table for both Teoscar Hernandez and Ty France, coming home on their first-inning double and second-inning home run, respectively. Crawford is now on a three-game tear that's seen him go 7-for-13 and quickly boost his average 18 points to .253.
Jun 11, 2023
Knocks four hits
Crawford went 4-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Crawford had just one hit in 17 at-bats over his first five games in June before busting the slump Saturday. The shortstop continues to hold down the leadoff spot for the Mariners despite his spotty hitting of late. He's up to a .249/.351/.349 slash line through 60 contests while adding three home runs, 23 RBI, 33 runs scored, 12 doubles and a stolen base over 243 plate appearances.
Jun 7, 2023
Solid in return
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Crawford played the whole game at shortstop after missing Sunday's game with a bruised knee. The 28-year-old had opened June 0-for-7 over two games after ending May on a six-game hitting streak. He's slashing .244/.349/.345 with three home runs, 22 RBI, 31 runs scored and a stolen base through 57 contests overall.
Jun 6, 2023
Returns to leadoff spot
Crawford (knee) is hitting leadoff and playing shortstop versus the Padres on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford left Saturday's game versus the Rangers with a knee bruise, and he sat out Sunday's blowout loss against Texas. The shortstop is back at the top of the lineup for the first game of a two-game set against the Padres with Kolten Wong moving to second base and Jose Caballero getting the day off.
Jun 4, 2023
Dealing with bruised knee
Crawford, who is out of the lineup Sunday against the Rangers, has a bruised knee and is scheduled to receive treatment Sunday and Monday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Assuming Crawford's knee responds well to the treatment, he should be back in the starting nine for Tuesday's series opener in San Diego. Jose Caballero has shifted over to shortstop for Sunday's contest while Kolten Wong covers the keystone.
Jun 4, 2023
Out with knee injury
Crawford (knee) is not in the starting lineup versus the Rangers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford suffered a late knee injury during Saturday's blowout loss to the Rangers, and while he was optimistic about being able to play Sunday, the Mariners will be cautious and have their starting shortstop sit at least one game with an off-day coming Monday. Jose Caballero will handle shortstop duties with Kolten Wong starting at second base.
Jun 3, 2023
Plans to play after late injury
Crawford suffered a knee injury in the eighth inning of Saturday's loss to the Rangers but he plans to play against Texas on Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford suffered the knee injury while making a dive into second base and colliding with Leody Taveras. While Crawford was able to stay in the game, it was clear the shortstop was dealing with soreness. If the pain doesn't subside he may sit out a game, but for now Crawford is likely to be in the lineup for Sunday's finale against the Rangers.
May 27, 2023
Goes deep in loss
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 11-6 loss to the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Two of Crawford's three homers this season have come in the last four games, and he has four multi-hit efforts over his last eight contests. The stronger hitting has come out of the leadoff spot. The shortstop is up to a .248/.361/.364 slash line with 22 RBI, 26 runs scored and a stolen base through 49 games.
May 24, 2023

He's slashing .245/.367/.351 with two homers, 19 RBI, 23 runs scored, a stolen base and 10 doubles through 46 games this season. He's done a decent job atop the order since taking over the leadoff spot from Julio Rodriguez two weeks ago.
May 20, 2023
Multi-hit effort in loss
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double in a loss to Atlanta on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop stuck in the leadoff spot while reaching safely for the 15th straight start. Crawford's .244 average and .341 slugging percentage leave plenty to be desired, but his .370 on-base percentage, partly fueled by a 16.0 percent walk rate, gives him solid top-of-order credentials as manager Scott Servais looks to get Julio Rodriguez's offense ignited from more of the middle of the lineup.
May 11, 2023
Productive in return
Crawford (knee) went 1-for-3 with an RBI single, a walk and a run in a loss to the Rangers on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford led off and played a full game at shortstop in his return from a two-game absence due to a knee injury, and he's now reached safely in eight consecutive starts. The productive afternoon at the plate Wednesday pushed Crawford's on-base percentage to .382 across 132 plate appearances, easily the highest of his career.
May 10, 2023
Returns to lineup, leading off
Crawford (knee) is hitting leadoff and playing shortstop Wednesday against the Rangers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford missed the last two games because of discomfort in his left knee, but he not only returns to the lineup against Texas on Wednesday, he'll replace a slumping Julio Rodriguez in the leadoff spot. While Crawford has hit just .240 on the season, he's gotten on base at a .378 clip and he'll look to help revitalize a struggling Seattle offense.
May 9, 2023
Expected to return Wednesday
Crawford (knee) told reporters before Tuesday's game against the Rangers that he expects to return to the lineup for Wednesday's game against Texas, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford mentioned that the swelling and soreness in his left knee made fielding groundballs a "little uncomfortable." The shortstop will miss at least one more game while dealing with the discomfort, but he has a good chance of being back in the lineup by the end of the week if there are no setbacks.
May 9, 2023
Out again Tuesday
Crawford (knee) is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Crawford will take another day off while dealing with discomfort in his left knee. Jose Caballero gets another start at shortstop and will hit eighth against Andrew Heaney and the Rangers.
May 8, 2023
Scratched with knee discomfort
Crawford was scratched from the lineup against the Rangers on Monday with knee discomfort.
ANALYSIS
Crawford fouled a ball off his knee during Sunday's win over the Astros, and after trying to work through it in pregame workouts the shortstop will take a seat. Jose Caballeros will play shortstop against Texas on Monday with Sam Haggerty taking over at second.
May 8, 2023
Starts to heat up
Crawford, who went 2-for-4 in Sunday's win over the Astros, has now reached safely in seven straight games.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop also cleared the bases Saturday with a clutch double, so he was a thorn in the side of Astros pitching over the last two games of the series. Crawford's current .378 on-base percentage is by far the highest of his career, a number largely built on his highest walk rate (18.0 percent) since his rookie 2017 season in Philadelphia.
May 5, 2023
Small-ball success Thursday
Crawford went 0-for-2 with two walks and two runs in a win over the Athletics on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop is just 2-for-23 over his last seven games following a 3-for-4 effort that featured a grand slam against the Phillies on April 26, but he still managed to make an impact Thursday. Crawford's multi-run effort was his fourth of the season, and despite a middling .226 average, he's maintaining an elite .374 on-base percentage thanks largely to a 19.0 percent walk rate.
Apr 26, 2023
Hits grand slam Wednesday
Crawford went 3-for-4 with one double and a grand slam in Wednesday's loss to Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Crawford led off back-to-back home runs in the second inning, hitting a grand slam off Taijuan Walker that was followed up by a Julio Rodriguez solo homer. Crawford was as productive as a nine-hole hitter could be Wednesday, coming up just a triple shy of the cycle after hitting a single in the seventh and a double in the ninth. The shortstop has been quite productive in 2023, with a .271/.407/.414 slash line to pair with 14 runs scored in 87 plate appearances.
Apr 26, 2023
Grabs first stolen base
Crawford went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a steal in Tuesday's victory over Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Crawford extended Seattle's lead to 2-0 with an RBI single in the fifth inning. He'd reach base again with a two-out walk in the seventh before swiping his first base of the season. Crawford has hit safely in three straight games after going 0-for-7 in his previous four contests. He's slashing .242/.390/.333 with six doubles, four RBI and 13 runs scored while hitting at the bottom of the Mariners' lineup.
Apr 18, 2023
Gets first game off in 2023
Crawford is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Crawford is getting a rest for the first time in the 2023 season. The shortstop takes a seat with Jose Caballero getting the start at shortstop and hitting eighth against Colin Rea and the Brewers.
Apr 16, 2023
On base four times in win
Crawford went 2-for-2 with an RBI single, two walks and a run in a win over the Rockies on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop was a thorn in the side of the Rockies throughout the afternoon and contributed to the Mariners' nine-run outburst with a timely single in the fourth inning that plated Cal Raleigh and snapped a 1-1 tie. Crawford is riding a tidy four-game hitting streak in which he's gone 5-for-11 with two doubles, Saturday's RBI, five walks and six runs.
Apr 8, 2023
Timely hitting in win
Crawford went 2-for-4 with two RBI from a pair of run-scoring doubles and two runs in a win over the Guardians on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop made plenty of noise out of the No. 9 spot in the order, belting RBI two-baggers in both the fifth and sixth innings to plate Cooper Hummel and Jared Kelenic, respectively. The 28-year-old opened the season with just one hit in his first 14 plate appearances, but he's now strung together a trio of two-hit efforts in the last four contests.
Apr 4, 2023
On base three times Monday
Crawford went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run in a loss to the Angels on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford reached safely for the fourth time in the first five games of the season out of his No. 9 spot in the order, contributing his first multi-hit effort and extra-base hit of the season in the process. Thanks in significant part to the four walks complementing his three hits, Crawford sports an early .389 on-base percentage despite just a .214 average through his first 18 plate appearances.
Mar 31, 2023
On base twice in opener
Crawford (foot) went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run in the Mariners' win over the Guardians on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford slotted into his usual starting shortstop role as expected Opening Day after completing his recovery from a sore foot, and he made an impact by drawing a leadoff walk in the eighth inning of what was a scoreless game at that point. Crawford eventually came around to score on Ty France's three-run home run, which proved the difference in the contest. Crawford is likely to remain in or near the No. 9 spot he hit out of Thursday for the time being, but it's worth noting the 28-year-old hit all across the order in 2022, including 119 plate appearances in the leadoff spot.
Mar 30, 2023
Officially playing Opening Day
Crawford (foot) is batting ninth and playing shortstop Thursday versus Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Crawford is fine after fouling a pitch off hit foot six days ago and will face Shane Bieber to begin the 2023 season. Coming off a 2022 campaign when he slashed .243/.339/.336, Crawford figures to be a mainstay near the bottom of Seattle's lineup.
Mar 26, 2023
Should be ready for Opening Day
Manager Scott Servais said Saturday that Crawford (foot) will "be ready to go" for Seattle's Opening Day matchup with Cleveland on Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop fouled a pitch off his right foot Friday but was diagnosed with just a bruise after X-rays and a CT scan come back negative. Crawford isn't in the lineup for Sunday's spring game but has gone through a full workout since he suffered the injury, and there's no concern about his availability for Opening Day.
Mar 25, 2023
X-rays negative on foot
X-rays returned negative Saturday on Crawford's foot, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford fouled a ball off his foot before Friday's Cactus League game against the Athletics, and was scratched from the lineup. The Mariners believed his absence to be precautionary, however, and the results seem to prove it. At this point, it appears very likely Crawford is ready to be the starting shortstop for Opening Day against the Guardians on Thursday.
Mar 25, 2023
Will undergo X-rays Saturday
Mariners manager Scott Servais told reporters that Crawford will undergo X-rays on his foot before Saturday's Cactus League game against the Giants, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford fouled a ball of his foot before Friday's game, and was scratched from the lineup shortly before the start of the contest. The infielder was able to go through pregame workouts, but the Mariners won't take any chances with their starting shortstop. There should be more info on Crawford after the imaging takes place.
Mar 24, 2023
Out after fouling ball off foot
Crawford is out of the lineup Friday after fouling a ball off his foot, SShannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford was schedule to hit at the top of the lineup and play shortstop, but the infielder was scratched as a precaution. The 28-year-old is considered day-to-day, and he should be ready to go in a week for the regular season.
Mar 24, 2023
Scratched from starting lineup
Crawford has been scratched from Friday's Cactus League game against the Athletics for undisclosed reasons, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford has been dealing with a shoulder issue in the past few days, but there's no word as to why the infielder is out of the lineup. Mason McCoy will start in his place. There should be an update on why Crawford is out of action before the conclusion of Friday's game.
Mar 20, 2023
Five innings at short Monday
Crawford (shoulder) started at shortstop in Monday's Cactus League win over the Brewers and went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before being replaced by Mason McCoy in the top of the sixth inning.
ANALYSIS
Crawford had last seen Cactus League action Thursday and most recently played shortstop March 10, as a "soggy" right shoulder had limited him to designated hitter duties since then. Crawford's ability to slot back in on defense Monday was in accordance to an aforementioned timeline, and it seems the veteran is on track to be at full strength for Opening Day.
Mar 20, 2023
Back at shortstop Monday
Crawford (shoulder) is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff for the Mariners in Monday's Cactus League game versus the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Crawford has been limited to designated hitter duties for a few days while battling a sore shoulder, but he's ready to test things out from his familiar shortstop position. The 28-year-old is 5-for-23 with zero extra-base hits so far this spring.
Mar 18, 2023
Playing in MiLB game Saturday
Crawford (shoulder) will play in a minor-league game Saturday to receive at-bats, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford has been out of the lineup since March 13 because of a "soggy" right shoulder. The infielder will get at-bats on the backfields of Arizona, and he has a good chance to be back at shortstop for Seattle for Monday's Cactus League contest. It looks likely that Crawford will be ready for the regular season.
Mar 17, 2023
Likely to return Monday
Mariners manager Scott Servais expects Crawford (shoulder) to return Monday for Seattle, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford has been out of the lineup with a "soggy" shoulder, but the Mariners have claimed that the injury isn't considered serious, and a return to the lineup Monday would seem to verify those claims. The shortstop's return becomes even more important for Seattle with Dylan Moore (oblique) likely to miss the first few weeks of the year with an oblique strain.
Mar 16, 2023
Aims for shortstop Sunday or Monday
Crawford (shoulder) hopes to return to playing shortstop on Sunday or Monday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford is serving as the Mariners' designated hitter again Thursday in Cactus League play as he protects his achy right shoulder. He seems to be feeling better, though, and hopes to be able to play the field in a few days.
Mar 13, 2023
Shoulder aching
Mariners manager Scott Servais said Monday that Crawford has a "soggy" right shoulder and will be limited to designated-hitter duties in Tuesday's Cactus League game versus the Royals, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite Servais' unique description of Crawford's injury, the shortstop isn't believed to be dealing with anything more than the typical soreness that often sets in for veteran players in the latter stages of spring training. The Mariners will take it easy on the 28-year-old by having him play DH on Tuesday, but he should be back in the lineup at shortstop before the end of the spring to erase any concerns about his health heading into Opening Day.
Mar 10, 2023
Solid at plate in spring
Crawford is hitting .267 (3-for-15) with two RBI, three walks and three runs across seven Cactus League games thus far.
ANALYSIS
Crawford has yet to provide an extra-base hit, but he's been a fairly constant presence on the basepaths and has only struck out twice. The veteran shortstop saw a 30-point drop in average last season from 2021's career-best .273 figure, but that also came with a 45-point reduction in BABIP from .320 to .275. Additionally, Crawford lowered his strikeout rate to a career-low 13.3 percent and walked at the highest clip (11.3 percent) since his initial 23-game big-league cup of coffee back in 2017, so an uptick in luck when putting the ball in play could see his average bounce back in 2023.
Oct 4, 2022
On bench for Game 2
Crawford is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Tigers, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford hit leadoff in the matinee and went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Dylan Moore will take over at shortstop for Seattle in the nightcap.
Oct 3, 2022
Day off Monday
Crawford isn't starting Monday against the Tigers, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After a two-walk, 0-for-2 performance Sunday, Crawford will get a day off Monday. In his place, Dylan Moore will start at shortstop and bat seventh.
Oct 1, 2022
Resting Saturday
Crawford isn't starting Saturday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners are resting several starters Saturday after clinching a postseason berth Friday night, and Crawford will head to the bench after going 1-for-14 with an RBI, two walks and three strikeouts over the last four games. Dylan Moore is starting at shortstop and leading off.
Sep 30, 2022
Game-winning knock in extras
Crawford went 1-for-5 with a game-winning infield single and a walk in an extra-innings victory over the Rangers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford rapped out a sharp liner that caromed off the glove of third baseman Josh Jung into short left field to plate Dylan Moore with the winning run in the 11th inning. It's been a productive week thus far on the RBI front for the veteran shortstop, as he's knocked in four runs over the last five games to get within four of the second-highest total of his career in that category (46).
Sep 26, 2022
Productive out of leadoff spot
Crawford went 1-for-4 with a two-run single, two walks and a run in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford made plenty of noise out of the top of the order in the wild defeat, hitting safely for the third straight game since returning from a one-game absence due to some lower-body injuries. He has eight total bases and three RBI over that span while replacing the sidelined Julio Rodriguez (back) in the leadoff spot, where the veteran shortstop figures to remain for the balance of the regular season.
Sep 23, 2022
Returns to lineup Friday
Crawford (lower body) is starting Friday against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Crawford didn't play Thursday against Oakland due to some leg/knee issues, but he's starting at shortstop and leading off Friday. Over his last five games, he's gone 4-for-16 with a triple, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts.
Sep 22, 2022
Dealing with lower-body soreness
Crawford is dealing with some leg/knee issues but is available off the bench Thursday in Oakland, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
He tweaked it sliding during last weekend's series in Anaheim. The Mariners are hoping a full day off Thursday will get Crawford right physically, although Divish notes Crawford could be used late as a defensive replacement.
Sep 22, 2022
Heads to bench Thursday
Crawford isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Crawford is getting a day off after he went 0-for-7 over the last two games. Dylan Moore will take his place at shortstop and bat eighth.
Sep 20, 2022
Laces third triple Monday
Crawford went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk and two runs in a win over the Angels on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford belted his third triple of the season in the third inning, ironically the only one of the three times he reached base that he didn't come around to score. The veteran shortstop has been getting particularly good wood on the ball of late, as he's now sporting a .290 average and .984 OPS over the last 10 games thanks in part to the fact he's laced five of his nine hits during that span for extra bases.
Sep 10, 2022
Snaps months-long homer drought
Crawford went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to Atlanta on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford uncorked a rare blast off Charlie Morton in the fifth inning, the shortstop's first home run since June 1. Crawford's .253 average is a far cry from much higher figures he was carrying during most of the first half of the season, but he's encouragingly shown some signs of life recently by hitting safely in five of the last six games on his way to a .286 average and .851 OPS during that span.
Sep 8, 2022
Busts slump with double
Crawford went 2-for-4 with one double in Wednesday's 9-6 loss against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Crawford tallied a double off righty starter Michael Kopech with two outs in the fourth, the last batter of the day for Kopech. This snapped a 14-game stretch without an extra-base hit for the shortstop. The 27-year-old recorded a .167 average and a .447 OPS over 50 plate appearances during that span.
Sep 2, 2022
Walks, scores in return to lineup
Crawford, who'd been out of the starting lineup for the previous three games with a pectoral injury, went 0-for-4 with a walk and a run in a loss to the Tigers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford had already appeared off the bench Wednesday and was deemed healthy enough to play the field Thursday after his second-longest stretch of absences of the season. Crawford's recent offensive struggles persisted, however, as he's now hitting just .154 (4-for-26) over his last nine games.
Sep 1, 2022
Draws back into starting nine
Crawford (pectoral) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Thursday's game against the Tigers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
After three straight absences from the lineup due to a pectoral injury, Crawford showed enough progress to gain clearance to play in the series finale in Detroit. Due to Crawford's injury in addition to Dylan Moore landing on the injured list with an oblique strain, Adam Frazier had to cover shortstop the past two days, but he should return to his more natural spot at second base now that Crawford is ready to go.
Aug 31, 2022
Remains out of lineup
Crawford (pectoral) isn't starting Wednesday against Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Crawford will take a seat for a third consecutive matchup, but it's possible that he'll be available off the bench Wednesday since manager Scott Servais said that the 27-year-old would be available in a depth role Tuesday. Adam Frazier will shift to shortstop while Abraham Toro starts at second base.
Aug 30, 2022
Not starting Tuesday
Crawford (pectoral) isn't in the lineup Tuesday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
It's not yet clear whether Crawford, omitted from the lineup for a second straight game, will be available off the bench Tuesday. Adam Frazer is starting at shortstop and Abraham Toro is playing second base.
Aug 28, 2022
MRI comes back clean
Crawford (pectoral) underwent an MRI on Sunday that didn't reveal any structural damage, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford was held out of Sunday's lineup against the Guardians due to his pectoral issue, but he doesn't appear to be dealing with a significant injury. The 27-year-old is considered day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's series opener in Detroit.
Aug 28, 2022
Out Sunday with pec injury
Crawford's absence from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians is the result of a pectoral injury, Jen Mueller of Root Sports Northwest reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Mueller, Crawford said the injury first started bothering him in Saturday's 4-3 loss, and the 27-year-old is scheduled to undergo further imaging Monday, when the Mariners have an off day before heading to Detroit for Tuesday's series opener with the Tigers. Dylan Moore will draw the start Sunday at shortstop in place of Crawford, who can be viewed as day-to-day until the results of his upcoming tests are made available.
Aug 28, 2022
Steps out of lineup
Crawford is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against Cleveland, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
ANALYSIS

Crawford's offensive production has ignited over the past five games, a stretch during which he's hitting .389 (7-for-18) with a double, three RBI, four total walks and three runs.
Aug 16, 2022
Plates pair in win
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles and a walk in a win over the Angels on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop snapped a 1-1 tie with his third-inning knock, which drove home Jesse Winker, and he added another timely single in the ninth inning to cap off Seattle's wild four-run rally. Crawford now has three straight two-hit efforts and boasts an impressive .282 average and .370 on-base percentage over the 46 plate appearances covering his last 11 games.
Aug 15, 2022
Scores twice
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Crawford reached home on a Sam Haggerty single in the second inning, then again on an error in the sixth inning. He also picked up two hits in Sunday's game, his second two-hit game in a row. The shortstop has been inconsistent this month, going 9-for-42, resulting in a .214 batting average. Perhaps Crawford's last two games are a sign that his .259 season batting average will continue to improve.
Aug 10, 2022
On bench Wednesday
Crawford isn't starting Wednesday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Crawford is out of the lineup for the first time since July 15 after he went 2-for-18 with an RBI, two walks and a strikeout over the last five games. Dylan Moore will start at shortstop and bat seventh after he was reinstated from the injured list Wednesday.

On-base streak continues Tuesday
Crawford, who went 2-for-4 with a run in a win over the Rangers on Tuesday, has now hit safely in each of the last 18 games during which he's registered a plate appearance.
ANALYSIS
The impressive streak dates back to June 28 and has seen Crawford produce a .271/.316/.343 slash line with seven RBI, four walks and 12 runs. Crawford has also struck out at just a 6.6 percent rate during that span, which has pushed his season-long figure down to a career-low 13.4 percent.
Jul 17, 2022
Delivers in clutch Saturday
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a game-winning RBI single and a double in an extra-inning victory over the Rangers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran shortstop's 10th-inning single snapped a 2-2 tie by plating Sam Haggerty, and the Mariners' Matt Festa was able to shut the door on the Rangers in the home half of the frame to give Seattle it's 13th straight victory. Crawford's bat has been particularly productive over the last 10 games, a stretch during which he's generated a .316/.366/.421 slash line and microscopic 2.4 percent strikeout rate across 41 plate appearances.

Remains out
Crawford (finger) remains sidelined Friday against the Rangers, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford was scratched Thursday due to a bruised right index finger and will sit for at least one more game. The Mariners haven't given any indication that Crawford requires a trip to the injured list, but with just two days remaining before the All-Star break, it's possible he remains out of the lineup in order to give his finger a full week to heal. Dylan Moore starts at shortstop again Friday.
Jul 15, 2022
Dealing with bruised finger
Crawford was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to a bruised right index finger, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Jul 14, 2022

ANALYSIS
Crawford took the field for warmups but was moving slowly and appeared to be in discomfort. There's no word on the exact nature of the injury. Abraham Toro entered the lineup to play second base while Dylan Moore shifted to shortstop.

Swings hot bat again Friday
Crawford went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and a run in an extra-innings win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Jul 5, 2022

Jul 4, 2022
Returns to action Monday
Crawford (suspension) is starting Monday's game against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Crawford missed the Mariners' series against Oakland over the weekend while serving his four-game suspension, but he'll start at shortstop and bat second Monday. He hit just .128 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs over the 10 games leading up to his suspension but will reclaim his role as the team's primary shortstop now that he's back in action.
Jun 30, 2022
Serving four-game suspension
Crawford will begin serving his suspension Thursday after it was reduced from five to four games, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford's suspension results from his role in a brawl that occurred during Sunday's game against the Angels, but he managed to get his sentence reduced by a game. The 27-year-old will be unavailable for the team's weekend series against the Athletics but will be able to use the Mariners' facilities to work out.

Not starting Wednesday
Crawford (illness) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Since the Mariners are closing their series with a day game after a night game, Crawford will unsurprisingly remain on the bench and get more time to recuperate from the illness that resulted in him being scratched ahead of Tuesday's 4-2 win. Manager Scott Servais has described Crawford's illness as flu-like symptoms, so the 27-year-old doesn't appear to be a candidate to land on the COVID-19-related injured list at this time.
Jun 15, 2022
Likely to sit with flu symptoms
Manager Scott Servais said after Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Twins that Crawford is unlikely to start in Wednesday's series finale while he recovers from flu-like symptoms, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford was a late scratch ahead of Tuesday's contest, but an explanation for his absence wasn't provided until Servais addressed the media after Seattle's win. Due to the quick turnaround for Wednesday's game -- which begins at 1:10 p.m. local time -- the Mariners likely won't rush Crawford back into the lineup while he's less than 100 percent. He could still be available in a pinch-hitting capacity if he doesn't start.
Jun 14, 2022

Crawford was scratched from Tuesday's lineup against the Twins for unspecified reasons, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Settles for $4.85 million
Crawford and the Mariners avoided arbitration Tuesday by agreeing to a one-year, $4.85 million contract, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford will more than double his salary in his second year of arbitration eligibility. While his profile is still driven by his defense, he's coming off a year in which he produced an above-average batting line for the first time, as his .273/.338/.376 triple slash was good for a 103 wRC+.
Nov 10, 2021
Looks like everyday shortstop
Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said Tuesday that Crawford will be the team's starting shortstop in 2022, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Dipoto noted that Crawford's presence would dissuade the Mariners from pursuing free-agent shortstops such as Marcus Semien, Javier Baez or Trevor Story, but any potential additional would seemingly be in line to move to another position to keep Crawford entrenched at his normal spot. Crawford has proven to be a plus defender at shortstop throughout his career, but it wasn't until 2021 that he emerged as a league-average hitter. He wrapped up the past campaign with a .257/.333/.380 slash line to go with 12 home runs, 57 RBI, 82 runs and nine stolen bases, but he could see his production suffer in the latter two categories if the Mariners bring in a more established leadoff option this offseason.

The late-season surge left him with a career-best .273 average, while his .338 on-base percentage and .376 slugging percentage were both the second-best totals of his five big-league seasons.

Crosses home three times in win
Crawford went 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs Monday in the Mariners' 13-4 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop had been stuck in a rut offensively for the first month and a half following the All-Star break, but the Mariners' faith in Crawford as their primary leadoff man never seemed to waver. The decision to stick with Crawford atop the lineup has paid dividends in September, with the 26-year-old responding with a .311/.368/.466 slash line through his first 24 games on the month. The Mariners will hope for a big finish from Crawford and the rest of their everyday lineup while the team looks to chase down two of the Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays for one of the two available American League wild-card spots.

The 26-year-old has been incredible since the beginning of June, slashing .362/.415/.543 with three homers, 15 RBI, 20 runs scored, two steals and a 12:21 BB:K over 21 games. He's on pace to set career highs in every single offensive category and has become one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball this year.
Jul 2, 2021
Scalding hot stretch continues
Crawford went 5-for-13 with two doubles, three walks and five runs across the just-concluded three-game series against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
As those numbers imply, Crawford was a constant thorn in the side of Toronto pitchers over the three-game set. The veteran shortstop was on base six times alone over Wednesday's and Thursday's contests, and he now owns a .348/.368/.500 slash line across the 68 plate appearances covering his last 15 games.
Jun 26, 2021
Swipes bag Friday
Crawford went 2-for-6 with a stolen base in Friday's 9-3 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop extended his hitting streak to 11 games Friday, going 18-for-49 (.367) in that span. Crawford was one of five Mariners to record multiple hits in a balanced team effort at the dish. The 26-year-old has a .285/.342/.405 slash line with five home runs, 30 RBI, 35 runs scored and three stolen bases in six attempts across 301 plate appearances. While his walk rate is a career-low 8.0 percent, Crawford has been an effective leadoff hitter since Jarred Kelenic was sent down to Triple-A Tacoma.
Jun 24, 2021
Riding 10-game hitting streak
Crawford will head into Friday's series opener against the White Sox with a 10-game hitting streak during which he's forged a .372/.372/.581 slash line across 43 plate appearances.
ANALYSIS
The hot-hitting shortstop has three doubles, two home runs , eight RBI and seven runs during that span as well. Crawford is sporting a career-best .284 average, .407 slugging percentage and .749 OPS following Wednesday's 2-for-4, one-run effort against the Rockies.
Jun 20, 2021
Launches grand slam Saturday
Crawford went 1-for-5 with a grand slam and an additional run in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Crawford provided the most productive hit of the contest, launching a second-inning grand slam that gave Seattle a short-lived three-run lead. He also scored the winning run in the 10th after beginning the frame as the inherited runner at second base. The shortstop extended his hit streak to seven games, during which he is slashing .387/.387/.645 with two homers and seven RBI.
Jun 19, 2021
Another multi-hit night
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in a win over the Rays on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The hot-hitting shortstop's multi-hit effort was already his sixth of June and pushed his slash line for the month to .382/.436/.588 across 78 plate appearances. Crawford has shown a nice knack for timely hitting during that stretch, garnering nine RBI over the 17-game sample.
Jun 16, 2021
Tallies three hits in win
Crawford went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-0 win over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Crawford wasted no time getting the offense started, as he took J.A. Happ deep to right field to lead off the bottom of the first. He also picked up a pair of singles and came around to score again in the fourth. The 26-year-old has really picked things up in June, slashing .393/.455/.625 with two homers, eight RBI, 10 runs scored, a stolen base and an 8:12 BB:K over 14 games.
Jun 13, 2021
Records three hits
Crawford went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's win over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Crawford has hit safely in eight of the Mariners' last 10 games and has seven RBI, six runs scored and an 8:8 BB:K during that span, so the shortstop has been doing a good job at the top of the order. Crawford also has a decent .342 on-base percentage, a figure that would represent his best mark in that category since his rookie year in 2017.
Jun 9, 2021
Reaches base four times
Crawford went 3-for-4 with a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Crawford made his presence felt at the top of the order once again and extended his streak of games reaching base at least twice -- he's done that in five straight contests, racking up one homer, five RBI, four runs scored, five doubles and a 4:2 BB:K. The shortstop is hitting .462 since the beginning of the month, but he's bound to regress at some point.
Jun 7, 2021
Doubles twice, knocks in two
Crawford went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 9-5 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Crawford reached base safely three times capped off by two extra-base hits. He was a part of four of the Mariners nine runs. The 26-year-old is slashing just .263/.326/.376 with three home runs, 21 RBI and 26 runs in 227 plate appearances. He isn't much of a power threat, but his .263 average is his highest of his career.
Jun 5, 2021
Belts leadoff homer
Crawford went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional RBI in Friday's loss to the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Crawford collected two of the Mariners' six hits in the contest and knocked in both of the team's runs. He began the game with a 430-foot solo homer and notched another RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third. Crawford has collected at least one hit in six of his past seven games, hitting .321 with a pair of homers and four RBI over that span.
Jun 4, 2021
Big night out of leadoff spot
Crawford went 3-for-5 with an RBI ground-rule double and another two-bagger in a win over the Angels on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford operated out of the leadoff spot for the sixth time this season with plenty of success, posting his second multi-hit effort in the last three games. The veteran shortstop's .254/.313/.340 slash line has plenty of room for improvement; however, Crawford sports a modest 17.5 percent strikeout rate and impressive 22.4 percent line-drive rate as well, while his .315 and .324 averages with men on base and men in scoring position, respectively, have helped lead to 17 RBI despite his often unfavorable slotting in the order.
May 30, 2021
Blasts second homer
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-2 win over Texas.
ANALYSIS
Crawford led off the seventh with home run to right off Texas starter Mike Foltynewicz to break a 1-1 tie. This was Crawford's second home run in 52 games this year after hitting two in 53 last season as he isn't much of a power threat.
May 26, 2021
Season-high three hits
Crawford went 3-for-4 with a double, run and RBI as the Mariners beat the A's 4-3 Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford knocked an RBI single in the first, doubled and scored in the fourth and singled again in the fifth for his second three-hit game of the campaign. The former top prospect is hitting a solid .261 but will need to show more power as he has just 10 extra-base hits on the season, nine of them doubles.
May 23, 2021
Sitting out Sunday
Crawford is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Donovan Walton will pick up a start at shortstop in place of Crawford, who will take a seat for the first time all season. Despite starting in all 46 of the Mariners' games to date, Crawford has produced relatively modest counting stats (18 runs, 14 RBI, one home run, one stolen base), a byproduct of typically batting in the bottom half of one of the majors' weaker lineups.
May 17, 2021
Keeps driving them in Sunday
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a two-run single and a walk in a win over Cleveland on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The hot-hitting shortstop continued to demonstrate his season-long knack for timely hitting with his third-inning single, which drove in Mitch Haniger and Kyle Seager with the Mariners' second and third runs of the day. Crawford now has 14 RBI despite having hit out of the bottom third of the order in 32 of 41 games, with his .327 and .333 averages with men on base and men in scoring position, respectively, responsible for that figure.
May 10, 2021
Pair of hits out of top order
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a run in a loss to the Rangers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Operating out of the leadoff spot for the first time all season, Crawford continued to wield a hot bat following a brief slump. The shortstop had just slugged his first home run two games ago as part of a 3-for-3 night that kicked off his current three-game hitting streak, and Sunday's multi-hit effort was his fourth in the last nine games overall.
May 8, 2021
Knocks first home run
Crawford went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and two runs scored in Friday's 5-4 win over Texas.
ANALYSIS
Crawford's fourth-inning shot knotted the game up at 4-4 and gave him his first long ball of the season. The 26-year-old has three multi-hit performances over his last three games and improved his season slash line to .267/.336/.343.
May 2, 2021
Stays hot in Saturday's loss
Crawford went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, a walk and a run in a loss to the Angels on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford continues to shrug off his typical slotting at the lowest runs of the lineup to generate solid production, with Saturday's multi-hit effort pushing his season average and on-base percentage to a solid .264 and .330, respectively. Crawford has also managed a respectable eight RBI despite his unfavorable spot in the order by slashing .318/.348/.500 over 23 plate appearances with men in scoring position.
May 1, 2021
Multi-hit effort in win
Crawford went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run in a win over the Angels on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford found a way to make an impact out of the bottom of the order, extending his on-base streak to nine games. The 26-year-old has yet to leave the yard this season through 96 plate appearances, but he does have four doubles and sports a favorable 8.3 percent walk rate and 17.7 percent strikeout rate.
Apr 24, 2021
Getting on consistently
Crawford, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI single, a walk and a run in a loss to the Red Sox on Friday, sports a .297 average and .395 on-base percentage over the 43 plate appearances covering his last 13 games.
ANALYSIS
That said, the third component of Crawford's slash, his slugging percentage, sits at just .324 thanks to the shortstop logging all of one extra-base hit (a double) over 70 total plate appearances. The 26-year-old carries a 10-game on-base streak into Saturday's matinee matchup versus Boston.
Apr 14, 2021
Continues hitting in twin bill
Crawford went 3-for-6 with a run while starting both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
The previously struggling shortstop continued his ascension at the plate with Tuesday's solid day. Crawford had gotten his average up over the Mendoza Line for the first time this season with his first multi-hit effort of the season Sunday, and although all three hits Tuesday were singles, and he's still in search of his first extra-base hit of the campaign, his average is now up to a respectable .256.
Apr 12, 2021
First multi-hit effort of '21
Crawford went 2-for-4 in Sunday's win over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
The struggling shortstop's first multi-hit effort of the season pushed his average over the Mendoza Line for the first time as well. Crawford has actually reached safely in seven of his first nine games, but he's yet to notch an extra-base hit and has generated an anemic 14.3 percent hard-hit rate through 34 plate appearances.
Apr 6, 2021
Struggling to start season
Crawford, who went 1-for-4 in a loss to the Giants on Monday, is hitting .154 (2-for-13) over his first four games.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old also has a walk and a run, but overall, his start to the 2021 campaign largely mirrors that of his forgettable Cactus League campaign. Crawford hit just .128 (5-for-39) no extra-base hits and three RBI across 52 plate appearances during the exhibition slate, and although there'd been talk this spring of the shortstop still seeing some leadoff duty, he's operated out of the No. 9 hole in all three games.
Apr 1, 2021
Batting ninth in opener
Crawford will start at shortstop and bat ninth Thursday against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Seattle is opposing a right-handed pitcher (Kevin Gausman) in the season opener, so the lefty-hitting Crawford looks like he'll be a mainstay at the bottom of the order to begin the campaign while Mitch Haniger serves as the full-time leadoff man. The arrangement is obviously an unfavorable development for Crawford's fantasy value, and an unexpected one heading into the spring after he had hit atop the order in 48 of his 51 starts in 2020. Though he showed significant improvement with his contact rate last season, Crawford's .336 on-base percentage was still poor for a leadoff hitter, and he didn't make enough strides this spring to hold off a healthy Haniger for the job. He produced only five hits -- all singles -- in 39 at-bats in Cactus League play.
Mar 11, 2021
No lock for primary leadoff duties
Crawford, who hit leadoff in 48 of 53 games last season, is likely to share the role more often this season with the likes of Mitch Haniger, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. "We'll continue to play with that. It won't be just locked in," manager Scott Servais said. "Last year, we had J.P. at the top, just because I thought we didn't have a ton of options. So, we'll continue to be flexible and move it around there."
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old has gotten off to a modest start in Cactus League play -- he's hitting just .200 (2-for-10) with five walks, a stolen base and a run across his first six games -- but he reported to spring camp with about 10 pounds of additional muscle and hit a career-best .255 last season over 232 plate appearances while striking out at a career-low 16.8 percent clip. However, with Haniger back healthy after missing almost two full seasons and the veteran outfielder having slashed .330/.388/.580 across 45 games at the top of the order in 2018, he profiles as a highly viable opposite-handed alternative to the left-handed-hitting Crawford in the leadoff spot.
Feb 24, 2021
Adds good bulk in offseason
Crawford showed up to the Mariners' first day of full-squad workouts Tuesday sporting about 10 additional pounds of muscle, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old made significant improvements in both batting average (.255, up from .226) and on-base percentage (.336, up from .313) last season compared to 2019, but he knocked only two balls out of the park in 232 plate appearances. Crawford has never hit more than the seven homers he managed in 2019 as far as the major-league level is concerned, but he did rack up 15 round trippers back in 2017 at Triple-A Lehigh Valley while still in the Phillies organization. Crawford's focus on adding strength this offseason undoubtedly was largely centered on improving his overall production at the plate as he looks to get his offense closer to the level of his Gold Glove defense at shortstop.
Jan 15, 2021
No need for arbiter
Crawford and the Mariners agreed to a one-year, $2,050,000 deal Friday, avoiding arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford hasn't developed into the star he was projected to be several years ago, when he was in the running for the best prospect in baseball, but he's still a useful enough player. His .255/.336/.338 slash line last season was good for a nearly average 94 wRC+, a fine mark when paired with above-average defense at shortstop and a decent amount of speed (six steals).
Sep 27, 2020
Racks up five hits in twin bill
Crawford went 5-for-8 with one double, two runs, four RBI and a stolen base during Saturday's doubleheader sweep against the A's.
ANALYSIS
It was a productive day for the 25-year-old, who has multi-hit performances in four of the past five games. Crawford enters the final game of the season with a .250/.333/.335 slash line, two homers, 32 runs, 23 RBI and six stolen bases in 228 plate appearances.
Sep 23, 2020
Pair of hits in loss
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a run in a loss to the Astros on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford was one of the few productive hitters for the Mariners, as he was able to reach safely for the third time in the last four games. The brief stretch represents a rare taste of success at the plate in September for the shortstop, who's still slashing just .176/.271/.255 across the 59 plate appearances he's logged during the month. One bright spot is that Crawford has at least shown a penchant for timely hitting in that span, as he's managed to parlay his nine hits into 10 RBI.
Sep 17, 2020
Plates two in loss
Crawford went 1-for-5 with two RBI in the Mariners' 6-4 loss to the Giants on Thursday. He also struck out three times.
ANALYSIS
Despite the timely knock, Crawford slid further into a now 4-for-26 slump. The 25-year-old is slashing .233/.337/.668 through 163 at-bats in 2020.
Sep 16, 2020
Back from bereavement leave
The Mariners reinstated Crawford (personal) from the bereavement list Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford missed five games after leaving the team last week following a death in his family. Now that he's been reinstated, Crawford should step back in as the Mariners' everyday shortstop and primary leadoff option in Wednesday's "home" game against the Giants in San Francisco.
Sep 14, 2020
May miss more games
The Mariners are expected to activate Crawford (personal) from the bereavement list within the next few days, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford remains in California after leaving the team over the weekend following a death in his family, but he should arrive in Seattle before the end of the week. However, because he'll need to clear COVID-19 intake testing before being eligible to play, Crawford looks poised to miss at least a few more games. The Mariners will lean on combination of Dylan Moore, Donovan Walton and Dee Strange-Gordon to fill in at shortstop while Crawford is away.
Sep 11, 2020
Lands on bereavement list
Crawford was placed on the bereavement list Friday.
ANALYSIS
The bereavement list is typically for players dealing with serious family health issues, so Crawford will be away from the team for a few days. Dee Strange-Gordon and Dylan Moore and the likely candidates to see time at shortstop during his absence.
Sep 9, 2020
Plates three runs against Giants
Crawford went 1-for-4 with a double, three RBI, a run scored and a walk in Tuesday's loss against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Crawford might have produced just one knock at the top of the order, but it was a significant one -- he cleared the bases with a three-RBI double in the top of the second. Crawford has gone seven straight games without a multi-hit effort, though, and he is hitting just .154 with a .659 OPS in that span. Perhaps Tuesday's three-RBI effort could boost his confidence moving forward, as the shortstop has struggled offensively during most of the campaign.
Sep 5, 2020
Hits second homer
Crawford went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run during Friday's win over the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Crawford extended Seattle's lead with a three-run shot off Taylor Hearn in the eighth inning. The 25-year-old is now averaging .248/.338/.358 on the season with two long balls and 23 runs scored.
Aug 30, 2020
Produces multi-hit game
Crawford went 2-for-3 with a double in Saturday's loss against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners mustered only seven hits in 31 at-bats against Angels pitching, and Crawford was the only player who mustered more than one knock. The slick-fielding shortstop is hitting .256 this season, but he has posted an elite .347 on-base percentage while extending his hitting streak to five games.
Aug 28, 2020
Productive in doubleheader
Crawford went a combined 3-for-7 with a stolen base and three runs in a pair of seven-inning doubleheader games against the Padres on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Crawford led off both contests and was set his teammates up well in each. The shortstop has now hit safely in five of his last six games, helping his previously plummeting stat line back to .244/.336/.319. While there's naturally still plenty of room for improvement in those numbers, Crawford sported a .282 average and .391 on-base percentage as recently as Aug. 15, so he's certainly capable of continuing his ascent.
Aug 26, 2020
Clubs first homer
Crawford went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Crawford had fallen ice cold after a hot start, managing just two hits in his last 33 at-bats entering play Tuesday. He drew a walk off Chris Paddack in his first plate appearance and then homered on a Paddack fastball the next inning, Crawford's first long ball of the season. He's still a work in progress at the plate, but the Mariners aren't going anywhere and have nothing to lose by giving Crawford everyday at-bats.
Aug 20, 2020
Gets breather
Crawford is not starting Thursday against the Dodgers, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford will get what appears to be a routine day off following a string of 11 straight starts. Through 25 games this season, the shortstop is hitting .234/.336/.287 with four stolen bases and 15 runs scored. Dylan Moore is covering shortstop in his place Thursday.
Aug 11, 2020
On base thrice in big win
Crawford went 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs in a win over the Rangers on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Teammates Dylan Moore, Kyle Lewis and Kyle Seager handled the big hits in the Mariners' 10-run barrage, and Crawford effectively set the table for them on two occasions, coming home on home runs by the latter two. The young shortstop now has a five-game hitting streak, although it's been completely devoid of extra-base hits thus far.
Aug 7, 2020
Not in Friday's lineup
Crawford isn't in the lineup Friday against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Crawford has played well while starting in every game to this point, but he'll get a breather Friday. Dee Gordon will take over at shortstop and bat eighth in the series opener against Colorado.
Jul 31, 2020
Fills box score
Crawford went 2-for-5 with two RBI, two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases in Thursday's 8-5 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Crawford kept up his hot hitting, and contributed on the scoresheet with his two-run single in the ninth inning. The shortstop also stole his first two bases of the season. He's hit safely in four straight games (6-for-15) with four RBI and six runs scored in that span. The 25-year-old is slashing .375/.516/.583 through seven contests.
Jul 30, 2020
Extends hitting streak
Crawford went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and two walks in Wednesday's 10-7 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Crawford notched a single in the top of the fourth, walked in the top of the sixth -- sparking Andrew Heaney's departure in what would be a five-run inning for the Mariners --, walked in the seventh once again, and capped his night off with a two-RBI single in the eighth. Crawford is enjoying a hot start to the season and is now riding a three-game hitting streak, going 4-for-10 (.400) with four walks and just one strikeout during that span.
Jul 28, 2020
Continues hot start to season
Crawford went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and two runs in a loss to the Astros on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The hot-hitting shortstop pushed his early-season on-base percentage to an absurd .529 with Monday's effort, which saw Crawford reach safely for the third consecutive contest. Just as encouraging is the fact the 25-year-old has struck out just once in his first 17 plate appearances after averaging a whiff every 4.8 PAs in 2019. The usual caveat regarding the small four-game sample naturally applies, but Crawford's hot start is certainly a welcome sight under any circumstances after his unsightly .226/.313/.371 line in a career-high 93 games last season.
Jul 25, 2020
Three hits in loss
Crawford went 3-for-4 with a pair of triples and scored a run in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Crawford showed off his speed with the pair of triples, and he was able to score in the fifth inning after a Mallex Smith groundout. The 25-year-old Crawford had four triples and five stolen bases in 93 games last season. It appears Crawford will be the primary shortstop for the Mariners this season, but Dee Gordon could earn some time there as well.
May 25, 2020
Likely workout participant
Crawford, who has remained in the Arizona area while spring training has been suspended, is likely to be present for the informal workouts the Mariners will allow players to conduct at their Peoria complex beginning this week, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The team's spring training facility is set to open either Monday or Tuesday for voluntary workouts, making the Mariners one of many teams around MLB that will be doing the same in coming days. Crawford has been working out on his own in the area, but having access to at least certain parts of the facility will allow him to presumably ramp up baseball-specific activities with the proper equipment.
Mar 21, 2020
Impresses in spring
Crawford was putting together a strong Cactus League resume before spring training was suspended and is ticketed for a major role this season as the everyday shortstop, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old shortstop worked to put on muscle this offseason, and the extra strength was paying some nice dividends over the first half of Cactus League play. Crawford had generated a .400/.429/.560 line with two triples, five RBI, two walks, two stolen bases and two runs across 10 exhibitions, raising the already robust expectations for him ahead of the 2020 season. Crawford will look to improve on both contact- and hard-hit rates this season after posting pedestrian 75.9- and 28.4-percent figures in those categories, respectively, in 2019.
Feb 18, 2020
Adds muscle in offseason
Crawford spent the offseason working with strength and conditioning coach James Clifton and put on 10 pounds of muscle, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old frequently made a mockery of big-league pitching during a breakout June last season, slashing .338/.413/.569 with two home runs and 17 RBI across 16 games during the month. However, that surge was followed by a significant downturn over the final three months of the season, with Crawford hitting just .178 across his final 60 games and also missing some time due to a strained right hamstring. Both the extended slump and the injury pointed toward a need for Crawford to get stronger, hence his diligent offseason program aimed at just that goal. The promising shortstop, who flashed an improve glove last season, says he already feels the increased strength paying dividends in terms of both the exit velocity of his batted balls and his throws across the diamond.
Sep 1, 2019
Shut down due to hamstring
Crawford is expected to miss at least a week due to the hamstring injury he aggravated in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Rangers, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford underwent an MRI on the injury Saturday, and while the results weren't revealed, the team was concerned enough to send the 24-year-old back to Seattle for further examination. Given that the last-place Mariners have little on the line at this point, it wouldn't be surprising if the team erred on the side of caution and kept Crawford sidelined for the remainder of the season. Dylan Moore is expected to serve as the primary replacement at shortstop for however long Crawford is sidelined.
Aug 31, 2019
Nursing hamstring injury
Crawford is not in the lineup Saturday against the Rangers due to a hamstring injury, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Crawford apparently felt some tightness in his hamstring Thursday and tweaked it again Friday, prompting the Mariners to give him the day off Saturday. Dylan Moore is starting at shortstop in place of Crawford, who is hoping to return to the lineup in a day or two, per Divish.
