Between Colorado and San Diego, the veteran outfielder has posted a season-long slash line of .240/.320/.368 with 27 doubles, nine home runs, 45 RBI, 55 runs and one steal through 124 games (515 plate appearances).

Profar will sit for the third straight game Saturday against St. Louis, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Profar started five straight games after joining the roster in early September, but he's since started just two of the last eight games. He went 3-for-4 in each of his first two games back with San Diego but is just 2-for-18 since then.

He had a bloop hit into shallow right that was misplayed by two Giants' outfielders and was able to use his speed to turn it into a flukey triple. Profar should continue to see time in left field for the time being until Trent Grisham (hamstring) is able to return from the injured list.

Grisham suffered a hamstring injury Thursday, though there isn't a lot of concern about the severity to this point. If, however, Grisham is sidelined longer than expected, Profar could see a significant increase in playing time. Brian O'Grady and Jorge Mateo are other candidates to play in center field, though they have yet to prove themselves at the big-league level the way that Profar has.

Profar (groin) will bat second and play left field Thursday against Cleveland.

He's ready to play again with three weeks remaining until Opening Day, which should still leave him time to get up to speed, especially as he isn't penciled in for an everyday role.

Profar had arguably the best season of his seven-year career last year, as his .278/.343/.428 slash line was good for a career-high 111 wRC+. He also added seven homers and seven steals in 56 games. The Padres' roster is getting increasingly crowded, with new addition Ha-seong Kim arriving from Korea to play potentially the same spots Profar is used to playing, though Profar's defensive versatility means he has many paths to playing time should he continue to look good at the plate.

Profar will not start Game 3 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Thursday.

Profar has gone 4-for-13 at the plate this season but has yet to record a walk or an extra-base hit, giving him a .308/.308/.308 slash line. Tommy Pham will be the left field Thursday, with Mitch Moreland serving as the designated hitter.

The versatile 27-year-old has 24 RBI to go along with a .270/.343/.434 slash line across 173 plate appearances this season.

Profar produced an RBI single in both contests. In the nightcap, he stole his fifth base of the season after a third-inning walk. In the fifth, he also came around to score on a Manny Machado single. Profar is up to 21 RBI, 23 runs scored and six home runs while slashing .254/.329/.401 through 45 games this season.

Profar hit one of five Padres homers in the contest, drilling a 421-foot solo shot in the eighth inning. The 27-year-old is slashing a modest .206/.305/.363 this season while producing five homers and 13 RBI.

Profar isn't in Saturday's lineup against the Rockies.

Profar will sit for the third time in the past four games as he's hitting .188 with four home runs and 12 RBI this year. Josh Naylor will start in left field with Greg Garcia serving as the designated hitter.

Profar is out of the lineup Friday at Colorado.

Profar will head to the bench for the second time in the past three games after starting the previous eight games in left field. He has two hits in his past 18 at-bats. Jorge Mateo will take over in left Friday for the Friars.

Profar is not starting Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Mariners.

Profar has started eight straight games for the Padres, going 5-for-27 with two home runs and a 3:4 BB:K during that span. Josh Naylor is manning left field and hitting eighth Thursday.

Profar kept the Rangers in the game by evening the score at 1-1 with a solo home run off Lance Lynn in the third inning. The long ball was the fourth of the year for the 27-year-old, who is averaging .205/.303/.372 with 15 runs scored and nine RBI.

Profar went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Rangers.

The 27-year-old's fourth-inning homer gave the Friars a 6-0 lead, but it proved to be the difference as the Rangers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the frame. Profar has struggled through the first few weeks of the season with a .203/.306/.338 slash line in 23 games.

Profar's move to the bench ends a streak of seven straight starts, during which he went 8-for-24 with a solo home run and three additional runs. Though he's still batting under .200 for the season and has seemingly been supplanted by Jake Cronenworth as the primary second baseman, Profar still looks to have a fairly clear path to playing time in the corner outfield, especially while Wil Myers is tending to a back injury.

Profar sits for just the third time this season, though his .100/.250/.175 slash line could lead to more days off in the future. The return of Eric Hosmer (illness) could hurt his playing time, as Jake Cronenworth, who had been filling in at first, will start at second Saturday.

Profar is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.

Profar got aboard with a walk in the fourth inning and added a stolen base, but couldn't come around to score. The 27-year-old has drawn four walks in 12 plate appearance to start this season, an improvement on his .301 OBP from 2019 with the Athletics. He's the everyday starter at second base to start the year.

The appearance in left field was the second in as many days for Profar, the team's anticipated starter at second base. Manager Jayce Tingler labeled the defensive placement as a consequence of the uncertainty of the coming season, suggesting that it's important to prepare for situations in which players sit due to injury or illness. Profar has logged 38 appearances in left field over the course of his career and played the position seven times last season.

The switch-hitting Profar delivered an extra-base hit from both sides of the plate, continuing what's been a solid start to the spring for the 27-year-old. He's facing competition from non-roster invitee Brian Dozier for the top job at the keystone this spring.

Though manager Jayce Tingler did not leave out the possibility of Profar playing different positions, if needed, throughout the season, he suggested that the 26-year-old will benefit by working solely at the keystone during spring training. Profar hit only .218 but swatted 20 home runs with Oakland in 2019.

Profar was traded from Oakland to San Diego in exchange for an undisclosed return Monday, Robert Murray of The Athletic reports.

Profar failed to build on his breakout 2018 campaign, hitting just .218/.301/.410 last season. He'll compete for at-bats in the infield in San Diego, where opportunities should be available after the recent trade of Luis Urias to the Brewers.
